I decided Nadia Grell would want a new outfit
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Obviously, its Satele Shan’s armor set in the game, albeit dyed.
Nadia’s interactions with Satele in the game story are brief, but its clear she reveres the Grandmaster. It would make sense she’d emulate Satele, especially given that Nadia is also a double-sided lightsaber user.
(The robes she normally wears is just so ‘meh’ to me.)
Thoughts?

So I’m not SAYING I blew a lot of credits with the Gambling Extravaganza this summer, buuuuuut...
Tumblr media
... Yeah, I DEFINITELY blew too many credits this summer.
Tumblr media
... like, an embarrassing number of credits, that has reaffirmed to me that I am NEVER to set foot in an IRL casino.
Tumblr media
But! I did win at least one of each of the prizes! So that has to count for something! (If only I could sell most of these on the GTN... I know the High Roller weapons can be sold/traded to other players, but not anything else, alas!)

Ok I have an idea for a fic and idk if anyone would be interested in it and rn I only have a concept rather than a specific line in my head which is how I usually get going. It’s not just coming to me so if I write it it’s going to take more energy than usual so I’m gonna throw the vague idea out there and if anyone is actually interested I might write it.
Anyway the idea is that Touya Todoroki used to play Star Wars: the Old Republic, he had his own laptop and an annual subscription and he played pretty frequently as a way to vent his frustration when he couldn’t sneak away to train or when he had already tired himself out but wasn’t ready to sleep. All his characters, every last one, is dark side. He doesn’t really do multiplayer, doesn’t have any friends he plays with and mostly sticks to the story quests. His main character, the one in the center of his legacy tree, totally maxed out and op, super cool outfit, designed to resemble Touya himself, is Darth Dabi. Dark side Sith Warrior, but he’s not cruel to his own companions. No romance with anyone until SoR where he can’t help flirting with Theron a bit. Anyway not the important part here just my brain going on a tangent.
The important part of the story is that after Touya “dies” Shouto steals his laptop. Everyone is grieving and different people take turns packing up Touya’s things so no one notices when a single item goes missing. Shouto just took it because he knew it was something fun his siblings got but he didn’t. His access to the internet was extremely limited and he just wanted to know what he was missing. He wasn’t able to actually do much with it, especially when he was still little but by the time he’s like 11 he’s figured it out. He explores what Touya had done on it, found school work and such but then he came across a document that Touya had used to record his swtor character backgrounds and reasoning. Touya didn’t like, write the whole story, it was just for himself to remember what he was thinking while he played, why he made which choices an such. He checks out swtor and luckily Touya had auto fill passwords and no security key. And lo and behold the subscription is still renewing annually and Touya had only played on one server. Shouto claimed another server for himself and started playing. He had so many cartel coins it was insane. He had a really easy time getting started but the more he played and figured out what Touya’s character notes implied he got worried about his brother even though Touya was already dead. He mostly puts it out of his mind but he realized that Touya was kinda not okay at all.
Years later when he meets Dabi for the first time he just kinda stops in his tracks and stares until blurting out “are you actually using the sith name you came up with in middle school to be a villain? Should I call you Darth Dabi now?”

SWTOR 7.3 Feedback
Non-spoilery stuff first
No technical glitches that I experienced on two playthroughs on Pubside.  Minus one or two moments with Odessen NPCs wandering around, nothing broke the game or immersion.  All the quests worked for credit; I had the weekly for Ruhnuk not work the time round, so this was nice.
I am aware that there are some financial changes they’re trying to patch back.  Basically, too much is being charged between trades with other players directly and when mailing to alts.  Also!  There is now a 30-day cooldown period between joining a guild and being able to access the guild bank. So get those alts in sooner rather than later, especially if you plan on raiding/doing group stuff with them.
On the Gunslingers and Snipers you now have a 2% per 3 seconds passive heal while in cover  -- level 64 option.  This is a big deal for survivability for these two classes.  I ran dailies and set my companion to DPS.  I had to pause and heal the comp after combat, not myself.   No more glass cannon, but this might be nerfed soon, since it’s a little op.  I’m going to have fun with it while I can.
If you love the Mantellian Privateer or Mira’s Armor from KOTOR II but can’t afford either on Cartel Market, good news:  the Mira set from Bounty Association (the event that comes around every 1-2 months) is now unlockable in collections.  So if you have a Mando char that goes hard on Bounty week, you now have a new cert sink + unlock with Cartel Points for the whole account.  There are some subtle differences in the outfits for the discerning Space Barbie player.
The Date Nights don’t happen in this patch; I would guess it will probably be activated during Night Life in July. Speculation on my part, though
Non-Spoilery Plot Stuff:  A lot of characters that we had the previous option to kill are present in this patch.  This really gives me hope for future content; I previously complained that Bioware was writing to the deadest version of the game (where they assume everyone is dead and only work with Lana).  We got A LOT of coverage with ‘optional’ characters, so this does give me hope for the future writing: assume everyone is alive, and some people get less content.  I’ll talk about what that means later for this patch.
Onward to spoilery stuff.
Torian does get an Alliance alert, which his ba’vodu Eva answered; this is unromanced I feel good about the Torian piece I just reblogged, because it seems consistent with what we see here.  Torian thought the drama over his father was over, the shame was done, the name redeemed -- and there is all is, resurrected from the dead.  Even more content with our neighborhood Mando really does make me want equivalent content with Vette; given that (shitty) decision was almost 7 years ago now and we JUST got a storyline with payoff for that choice, Vette needs some love now, romantic or platonic, beyond Date Night.
The only downside to letting Torian live at the moment, especially if you’re a smug or bh, is that you lose quality screen time with Akaavi Spar on Ruhnuk. She comes to your rescue in the final fight.  I also feel as if this scene should have been back with the 6.2 content drop, when the banner is first stolen, but it does work here as well, with the burning of it compounding all of Torian’s feelings about his history.
While Eva does hate that burnt tater thot, the content for Arcann was really good.  I actively wonder if they are pulling things from the aborted third KotXX expansion.  THIS is the character development many of us wanted to see before romancing him: we wanted to see the realization of what he’d done, the desire to fix things, the acknowledgement it may never be enough for some people.  Ding Ding Ding!  I did view both versions of the Darth Nul investigation -- I killed him on DS Eva and let him live on my sunshine and Rainbows LS smug Dyo -- and the version with Arcann in it is so much better.  You also get an additional scene with him; romanced folks get a hug!
Like the Torian scene, this Arcann development probably should have been earlier in the plotline, but WAAAAY earlier -- like 6+ years.  I think before the romance trigger, most definitely, but at least by the time of Nathema, especially if the Commander takes any of his advice to heart regarding Theron.  I think this falls to fan fic writers to fix, in terms of char dev.
As I mentioned above, both of these guys are killable.  And they got some great content this patch.  The story feels better with both of them in it.
As for our dynamic duo, Lana and Theron do show up and play a vocal role with Shae in regard to the interrogation of Malgus.  Theron does get to call Shae out on her working with Malgus to sack Coruscant 2x years ago (I have no idea what year we’re in since COVID screwed everything up).  We also get wonderfully protective partners in Lana and Theron.  Theron makes a comment that the work among other “benefits” keep him young if you’ve romanced him -- poor Lana.  There is noticeable smoldering going on between him and the romanced PC.  Theron does provide significant dialogue content and reaction shots, even though he’s killable.  And of course you get a Theron letter, which alludes to Date Night.  In sum, I don’t think Theron was at all side-lined compared to Lana.
The one weak part of all this is the tenuous connection between the Voss and Malgus’s plans.  In part, it’s becacuse Sana Rae had to be on Voss and decided to kill a few birds with one stone (or one Commander).   It boils down to a vision in which the PC saves the galaxy again.  We do get the tidbit that if we outright kill Malgus, things happen faster, but ‘things’ are ‘inevitable.’  Some of the ‘mundane’ quests verge on the ridiculous, but Star Wars always stomps on character hubris when it can.
Did I enjoy going back to Voss?  Yup.  Did it make sense, given the nature of the Arcann content?  Yup; if you didn’t spare Arcann, this feels more contrived than if you did, in my opinion.  If I recall correctly, Voss was supposed to be visited in an earlier expansion but that was also canned.
The transition from Bioware to Broadsword may be bringing old things back to life to ‘finish’ the game -- or start a new beginning.  I remain optimistic.  I will say that the old story of Voss and the new story post Eternal Empire does spin together well.
Good patch, in my opinion, minus the issues with the economic system that are ongoing.

Do you have any advice for someone just starting with Star Wars: The Old Republic? I started a Sith and a Jedi, but after grinding for an attractive outfit, I'm not really sure what I should focus on! Sooo many planets left to explore
You're off to a great start with getting a good outfit. Since SWTOR has a lot of cut scenes, you'll have a ton of fodder for screenshots. Gotta look cute traveling the galaxy. And continuing in that vein, you can hit Escape during a cut scene to exit it. Then all you have to do is interact with the person/object to restart. This is really good if you miss a screenshot opportunity or pick a dialogue option that you're not super fond of.
The class mechanics between Republic and Empire are foils of each other, so you don't have to go crazy making a ton of characters to try out every class specialization. A Balance Jedi Consular will play the same as a Madness Sith Sorcerer (https://swtorista.com/articles/choosing-a-class-in-swtor/).
Your class quest will lead you through the game and tell you what planet(s) you need to travel to. Following that is the best way to not get overwhelmed, especially when you look at the galaxy map on your ship for the first time. For the most part every character is going follow the same path through the story with just some minor differences (https://swtorista.com/articles/swtor-solo-story-path/).
When you arrive on each new planet, there with be a quest giver with a purple mark over them that gives you the Planet Quest line. These send you through the same route on the planet so you can do them both at the same time.
There are also side quests (yellow markers) that are optional. If you're Free to Play, you'll definitely want to do the side quests for the extra experience since you'll receive less overall. If you're Preferred or Subbed, then you can skip them if you want since you'll end up getting over-leveled pretty easily. I personally like doing them since they're also pretty easy to complete while doing the Class and Planet stories.
And speaking as a chronic alt-oholic, it's best to focus on a character or two and push deep into their story before starting anyone else. It's easy to get burned out on repeated content if you keep making characters and only playing them through the first couple planets. Especially since there are 8 class storylines.
While it isn't required to do all 8, it is worth doing 1 of each class archetype (Jedi Knight/Sith Warrior, Jedi Consular/Sith Inquisitor, Trooper/Bounty Hunter, & Smuggler/Imperial Agent) for the passive stat buffs associated with them. And luckily, you only need to get through Act 2 of the class story to get those.
Don't be afraid of the role playing aspects of the game! Since you have the dialogue wheel, Light and Dark side decisions, and companions who will react to these decisions and dialogue choices, get into the character. The game will give you the bare bones of a backstory, but you can fill that out and have that color your decisions in dialogue and actions. Let the blorbo inspiration flow through you!
And lastly, https://swtorista.com is an amazing resource for SWTOR with guides on so many aspects of the game. I'm sure there's stuff I've forgotten so that'll be a good way to fill in any gaps.

What are your Top 3 controversial Swtor opinions?
I'm not sure how controversial they really are, but:
That the writers have added a kill option for nearly every companion so far or have suddenly phased out the rest (except lana so far) feels really lazy and like a slap to people who like the characters since they just phase them out of the story whether or not the option was taken. (that there’s also some of the players who seem to thrive on the fact they can kill everyone they can get is a bit creepy, and that it's especially strong towards the poc npcs)
the game itself likely would've been better if it had been a single player rpg like kotor instead of an mmo and had subsequent games come out where things you did actually mattered like in mass effect or dragon age.
Slutmogs are fun and all (i have a good bunch myself and would love more options added) but if i have to see another companion in a dancer outfit i will scream.
bonus (but this time positive): I love all the different characters people make and how they portray them both within and without of the game's limitations. ocs, otps, stories and adventures. there's so much good and beautiful creativity in our fandom and I believe it honestly outweighs the bad and want to see even more showcased and put in the forefront of the community

(belated) WIP Wednesday
Tagged by @theluckywizard!
I recently acquired a gaming laptop and have been back on my SWTOR bullshit, so I've been going through some older writing and working on fics with my imp agent Pravin! (His main fic is here, which is more or less "the agent Shadow of Revan mission but make it a heist.")
I have a lot of headcanons about how the denouement of Chapter 2 goes in his timeline, including that he has a bit of a freakout, tells Shara he's resigning and fucks off for a while. He reconnects with Vector, who ends up being a very needed voice of sanity and convincing him to go back.
So yeah, here's a bit from Vector's perspective, where Pravin's explaining to Vector what the hell happened to him. (Vector doesn't know his actual name here--I have this whole idea that agents have operating names before they earn their numbers to keep their true identities totally unmentioned, so the moment where he drops a first name is a shocked reference to Pravin's operating name.)
Spoilers for the imperial agent story; warnings for mental horror stuff and drug use.
Down a musty corridor with sagging paneled walls, the sconces coated in dirt and bugs, he found the room and pressed the bell. A mechanical ping sounded.
Nine cracked it open immediately. “Back up.”
Vector retreated a step. He leaned out just enough to scan Vector’s surroundings; the glint of a blaster’s barrel catching the light. Satisfied, he released the handle, wordlessly ushering his friend inside.
The room was cramped, outfitted with a bed, a refresher and a kitchenette consisting of little more than a sink and a cooktop. The bedsheets were tossed about in a tangle; discarded clothes were strewn across the floor, and the remains of carryout containers filled the counter. Vector’s eyes widened in concern; Nine had never been a compulsively tidy person, but this level of disarray was unlike him.
Then there was the man himself, depositing his pistol on the nightstand and taking a seat on the limp mattress. He was clad in a short-sleeved undershirt, one of those issued with civil service uniforms, and his left arm was done up in a cast held in place by a sling. His sleep pants, sporting a lively geometric pattern, hung loose on his hips; he seemed gaunt, cheeks sunken beneath a layer of stubble. Unkempt curls tumbled about his brow; as he swept them back with his hand, his forehead shone with a sheen of damp.
He smelled sour with perspiration, tinged with sickly-sweet kolto and an edge of something sharper. Vector’s gaze slid to the nightstand. Emptied stim syringes lay atop torn-open packages of dressings, set beside a half-filled pouch of glittery spice.
“Stars,” he breathed. “Cipher—”
“Can you double-check that’s locked?” Nine interrupted, pointing at the door.
Vector turned, examining the lock, then glanced back at his friend. “Arnav, what in the galaxy happened to you?”
Nine opened his mouth and shut it again, his hand curling into a fist in his lap. “...I left Intelligence.”
“You did what?” Vector strode up and dropped onto the bed, his killik companion crawling out onto his shoulder in alarm. “Why?”
“They fucked me over,” Nine spat, the fuzzy edges of his aura sparking. “Those sons-of-scum stabbed me in the back. I just spent two months in a living nightmare because apparently I was too fucking good at my job, too fucking competent to be trusted—”
“You were—what is it called? Burned?”
“No.” Nine gave a humorless laugh. “No, no, I was...I was raped. Mentally. You know how they experiment on prisoners, and—how do I even kriffing—”
He wiped at his nose, searching for words. “You ever had sleep paralysis? Where you wake up partially and you’re seeing things going on around you, and you can’t move?”
“We know of this, yes.”
“That, but you’re fully awake. They tell you to stay, and you’re frozen. They tell you to go, and—” He swallowed. “You’re trapped in your head watching it happen. Can’t even scream.”
He looked towards the wall. “SIS got the trigger word. I don’t know how—one of them’s on the lam, they’re saying he’s got some other allegiance—but frankly, I don’t give a kark. For my part, I’ve fixed it; I took a hit of the chemicals and rewired my own brain because I had no other choice. And no amount of begging on Keeper’s part is going to change the fact that the people whom I trusted, the people whose job it was to be my lifeline, to be there for me whilst I’m running about hostile territory, doing what they don’t even have the guts to do, put me in that position.”
His voice caught; he motioned frenetically at himself. “I gave them six years, Vector. Six years of my life! I was loyal, I was good, I saved thousands of people, and this—this is how they repay me. Fine work, Cipher, you piece of rubbish. None of that meant anything at all.”

16. Who are their Forbidden Companions — i.e., characters who aren't companions in-game — if they have any?
22. What abilities do they use that aren't in their in-game spec? 24. If they could have a stronghold on any world, where would it be, how large would it be, & what would the architecture be like?
Tumblr media
Both of them don't follow the OG stories soo the companions dont match for them, but im gonna tell what companions i would see for them. 16.Who are their Forbidden Companions — i.e., characters who aren't companions in-game — if they have any? I Wanna see Ain'res and Hunter works together, even if Hunter would end as temporary companion. The endless sexual tension with bickering. I need this. 22. What abilities do they use that aren't in their in-game spec? Full meele knifes/daggers combo, thans to exo skeleton outfit as Ghost have more agility so better close gap skills and dodging 24. If they could have a stronghold on any world, where would it be, how large would it be, & what would the architecture be like? Before the update it was Mek-sha. Something much smaller than shown in-game but perfect hideout when you escape Empire.
Tumblr media
16.Who are their Forbidden Companions — i.e., characters who aren't companions in-game — if they have any? I would like a reunion with Nalen Raloch after Tython and we know later he become Jedi Knight. It would be nice to get his help later. 22. What abilities do they use that aren't in their in-game spec?Force blade - He is not that much strong in the force, but he have amazing control skills and when you see Jedi use the force as something to push or a blunt hits Sallaros learn how to cut. First he used this to teach himself how to control Force, creating a perfect orb from various materials (Rock, metal, ice) with great detailed cuts. Sall would cut the metal door with Force than with lightsaber and lift the smaller pieces. 24. If they could have a stronghold on any world, where would it be, how large would it be, & what would the architecture be like? Rakata prime, so many ruins and thing to learn so perfect for his archaeology nature, but something small too.

Honestly having SUCH a good time getting back into SWTOR and it's pretty much because of 3 specific armors
The Mando one with lekku for my BH main (who's a Twi'lek) has got me playing him SO much more
Made a whole new character for the Tusken weaponmaster outfit (then put all her companions in various Tusken armor because they're a Tusken squad hunting bounties around the galaxy)
Still deciding who gets it but the Pyke armor lets me imagine that the character underneath is an actual Pyke; not sure what class (probably Smuggler) but I'm hype
Honestly if they're willing to let headgear suggest a specific species regardless of the player actual species, this bodes well (maybe) for a legit version of the species mod where you get a nifty helmet that makes you look Kel Dor/Ithorian/Duros etc etc

4,6, 10 from the swtor asks :3
Oh, my indecisiveness bit me in the ass on these, lol. swtor asks be upon ye!
4. Favorite feature of the game?
How do I pick just one? x,D Okay, so it's probably customization and how it's handled - the appearance changer, outfit slots, etc. (Yes, I'm cheating a little, sue me).
There's also a few small details I just??? appreciate? Like, I was today years old when I found out some of my characters have different music tracks that play over their galaxy map (this is relevant, I swear) and one of my favorite nuggets about playing agent is when you go to Korriban; play a Sith on Korriban and the Academy guards will kneel as you pass. Take your agent there? Nada. It's a nice little detail that the distinction is in there and I love that.
6. Favorite BGM/song?
THIS ONE. THIS ONE DROVE ME INSANE.
There is a very specific short sequence that is inextricably tied to the Imperial Agent experience and I thought I was making it up until I went trying to find it. If I'm not mistaken, it's included in the opener on Hutta and it makes a few reappearances throughout agent and it's also the galaxy map theme for an agent.
But I can't find this fucker in any of the ambient tracks anywhere. To save my life.
It was going to bother the hell out of me if I couldn't produce proof. This. This fuckin'. Particularly just the first like 10 seconds. THIS is part of Imperial Agent I'd like to inject directly into my bloodstream and take like drugs.
It's kind of like that idea that Star Wars wouldn't have been as successful if they hadn't nailed what a lightsaber sounds like. This is that inextricable from the epicness that is the Imperial Agent story for me.
Anyway. To pretend I'm even a modicum normal about this game, my favorite cantina track is Credits Where Credits Are Due. The Siege of Alderaan is also really high up there along with ahhh... probably Tython and Balmorra's bgm.
10. NPC you love to hate?
Is it cheap to say Saresh? xD Especially when you go through the whole ordeal from Taris through what she does to the Alliance on Pubside, she's just a snake. Still some of the best dark side options to stick it to her.
Anyway, uhh... for a little bit more small-time, SIS Agent Zane??? Is a jackass? From Aric Jorgan's companion quest with Trooper. I've not once stopped Jorgan for busting his ass and I do not regret it. If I regret anything, it's the way Aric doesn't quite agree with himself for taking action in the moment, but Zane is... grating. Uncooperative. Disrespectful. And a jackass for how he was handling that operation.

As my daughter sat on my lap to play SWTOR this evening, she told me she thought the music on Korriban was too depressing. And that’s why we went through this epic sequence...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
...listening to Kermit the Frog sing “Rainbow Connection”. It definitely contributed to a certain mood.
Then we met Khem Val. My daughter thinks he’s hilarious.
Tumblr media
“He’s always hungry. We'll have to stop along the way at Chipotle and buy him a big, huge burrito and a bag of chips. And keep a bag of chips for the trip in case he needs a snack.”
She also chose the red customization “so he and Fhalx can match”
Tumblr media
On the way back to turn in the mission another player stopped in front of Fhalx and jumped up and down a few times. My daughter took this to mean that her outfit was finally receiving the praise it is due and declared that this is a very good day.

Fun fact: The reason you can’t see your companion on speeders, according to my 5 y/o daughter is because they are kept in an invisible compartment in the back. There’s a small hole for their heads to poke out so they can breathe.

Also Drommund Kaas is “very Sithy”.

HELLO AGAIN, here is my info dump on Star Wars the Old Republic, im sO SORRY it’s LONG, but this game is amazing and i cannot recommended it enough
SWTOR: you can romance a Manadalorian as a female bounty hunter (the game came out in 2011 so same-sex wasn’t an option back then, updates have made changes to add new characters for same-sex romance). The companion’s name is Torian Cadera if you want to google him, you can change his appearance in game and dress him up different. Also, SWTOR is really cool bc in terms of it being a game it’s really simple, you don’t need to be a “gamer” to play. You mostly watch cutscenes and make dialogue choices that affect your story, with a light/dark side point system to choose your path— do you save people? do you let them die? do you demand more credits? Even though it’s an MMO you can play entirely alone and not ever have to interact with another player ever. BONUS POINTS: the Bounty Hunter main story is very found family focused 🥺
I played as a male bounty hunter first (I even have our Mandalorian’s outfit and weapons), so my next will be a female so I can actually unlock the romance cut scenes 😌 but even as a male Torian taught my character some Mando’a in game bc that’s what homies do
This sounds incredible! Thank you so much for sharing. I hope I can get myself to dedicate to it!
