A dead body touched with the Odour of Sanctity can’t just smell ok. It has to possess the mysterious presence of a supernaturally pleasant odour. The scents can be brief or persistent, attached to the body, grave, water the body was bathed in, or objects the person touched. In the case of St. Padre Pio, his spectral scent of roses and pipe tobacco visited people after his death and was considered a sign of his saintly intercession. All Odours of Sanctities are described as sweet, with notes of honey, butter, roses, violets, frankincense, myrrh, pipe tobacco, jasmine, and lilies being the most frequently reported accompaniments. The scent is also always culturally specific and deeply intertwined with symbolism. (...) One of the most popular of the fragrant saints, St. Therese of Lisieux smelt of lilies, violets and roses upon her deathbed. Her most often attributed quotes is, “The splendour of the rose and the whiteness of the lily do not rob the little violet of its scent…If every tiny flower wanted to be a rose, spring would lose its loveliness”. It also should be noted that during Therese’s lifetime violet absolute was synthesized, making a material that was once the most expensive fragrance component in the world, affordable for all and the de rigueur fragrance of respectable women. To the Victorian palette, violets represented chastity, modesty, and feminine virtue. Lilies and roses also have a long association with Jesus and Mary. Therese’s Odour of Sanctity creates an olfactive tableau of Therese, the respectable modest female, alongside the Virgin Mary and Jesus. Before 1875 however, the scent of violets would not have been readily identifiable to the general population, and no Odour of Sanctity is associated with violets in any primary sources before that time. There is also an active association between Osmogenesia and Stigmata, with the floral odour emanated from the wounds. Stigmatic Osmogenesia in every case is reported as the smell of roses, which again is deeply symbolic with the wounds of Christ. While there is no way of knowing just how many people the Odour of Sanctity was associated with, in the Late Medieval and Early Modern periods ascetic mystics make up a large population of those afflicted with this post-mortem perfume. In particularly female mystics that lived cloistered lives. These women’s bodies suffered through harsh asceticism and self-inflicted mortification. Yet through the isolation, hardship, poverty, and virginity, these mystics sought to control their bodies and transform them into sacred vessels. It, therefore, makes sense from their perspective that, if successful, the discarded vessels of these perfected souls should already be touched by a whiff of Paradise. The association of the Odour of Sanctity with cloistered women parallels the profane eroticism of the earthly woman with the chaste eroticism of the sacred woman; while the worldly woman’s corpse corrupts by its nature and stinks, so the heavenly woman’s body remains pure and fragrant. However, the conversation is still about a woman’s body.

i actually think that this concept art is really interesting when you consider what it means for herlock’s character and his relationship with yuujin. the truth is that we know next to nothing about how those six years they spent together went, but this illustration kind of tells us everything that we really need to know: by combining this and what we see in their relationship now, kazuya nuri has told us everything about them through just a simple drawing.

this is most likely towards the earlier stages of their partnership, so herlock is probably only around 18-20. obviously he is visually very different from the herlock in tgaa—his “casual” appearance is much less put-together, his hair is longer, and his posture is much more relaxed—but what immediately catches your eye is herlock’s expression! you could interpret it as him being lost in thought or him looking a little pissed off, but we would NEVER see today’s herlock making an expression even resembling that: his deductions are meant to appear effortless, after all, and he never really expresses his true feelings. he has his serious moments, but he would never appear that intense.

and i just. i think it is so, so sweet. that yuujin’s friendship was able to change herlock so much. when you look at him in this illustration you can immediately understand who he is: a moody, young adult man (glorified teenager) who doesn’t really understand who he is yet, doesn’t know how to open up to other people, doesn’t know what to do with himself. and yuujin’s kindness is what changes him fundamentally: his friendship, his support. as much as he cares about susato and ryuunosuke, he MEANS it when he says that yuujin is his only true friend. because as much as they mean to him, they haven’t seen him at his worst. they haven’t helped him grow into himself. they didn’t give him the most important person in his life.

at the end of the day herlock isn’t perfect. FAR from it; he’s a fucking mess. but yuujin’s influence helped him. saved him, in a way, and because of that, he’s happy. even though he struggles with rent constantly, though he still keeps his heart locked up tight, he is happy and he has a daughter and that’s what matters. and nuri conveys all of this through just one picture to accompany the story :)

JEDI ORDER Mo Mynx Mo is a human Jedi originating from Coruscant who studied under Codral Imi before he was killed along with his present men from the 452nd legion in a crash on Abafar, leaving Mo the only survivor, helplessly waiting for someone to find him. Mo is later reassigned to train under Jedi Master Shaak Ti on Kamino. Weapon: double-bladed lightsaber, yellow Sari Su Sari is a pantoran Jedi with a cheerful personality and a bright smile. She has a thick accent based on her homeworld's dialect and sometimes stumbles over her words because of it. Sari is trained by the Jedi Master Taudna Sillem and is a great admirer of Senator Riyo Chuchi, having had the honour to meet her a few times already. Weapon: single-bladed lightsaber, purple Kimea Orneem Having the honour to be trained by the legendary Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi, Kimea takes her job as a Jedi and Commander of the 212th very seriously, which often leaves her with a great headache when she sees her fellow padawan goofing around or taking things too lightly. Working with the 501st from time to time, the Aldeeranian gets along fairly well with fellow padawan Ahsoka Tano and enjoys spending time with her between missions, along with Cime Dafollah. Weapon: dual-wield lightsabers, cyan Atesa Nush Originating from Arkania, Atesa is one of the few younglings that still slightly remembers her family. Despite her duty and destiny as a Jedi, Atesa still deeply desires returning to Arkania to meet her family again. Studying under the Jedi Knight Knaspeer Lug, she usually works at the Archives in Coruscant and spends most of her time studying and reading. Weapon: single-bladed lightsaber, white Nurifi Egaserr Nicknamed "Nuri", Nurifi is a free spirit, often found daydreaming or following her own rules instead of decently listening to her master's orders, which often leads to her getting into trouble with the Council or being lectured by her master. Being one of the youngest padawans, Nurifi sometimes struggles with her feelings and emotions and is still learning how to properly deal with them. Nurifi is the padawan of Jedi Master Plo Koon and with that also the commander of the 104th about whom she tends to complain and wail to Atesa when they get together between missions. Weapon: single-bladed lightsaber, blue Cime Dafollah Soft-spoken and well-behaved, the beautiful Togruta is generally a rather quiet and sweet girl, leaving the people she meets all over the galaxy swooning over her. After having been put on sick leave for two months now, Cime usually helps out Master Yoda with the Younglings' training as well as babysitting the little ones in the nursery and overseeing their health and development. She usually joins Ahsoka Tano and Kimea Orneem when they stop by at the Temple, relishing in the exciting battlefield stories the two have to offer. She truly can't wait to join her master on missions again once she's recovered from the mysterious sickness. Weapon: double-bladed lightsaber, orange

Tidbit Tuesday

Thank you for the tags @dwead-piwate-meggers @evilbunnyking @ejunkiet . So excited to read your twc fanfic again.

A few stories on the back burner. Now that I’ve read through book 3, I’ve been thinking about them again. No book 3 spoilers.

Surina looks towards him, shoulder resting at his arm, head tilted and too large grin on her face. It’s a bit silly, the situation, sitting in the center of her couch, pressed together. A used keyboard between them, one found at the Wayhaven rummage sale which was held one saturday in conjunction with the farmer’s market.

Tonight, she tells Nate of a memory, as her fingers move, working together to create some sort of melody. Something resembling the song played inside the Wayhaven Community Chapel.

“On Saturdays, I’d take walks down by the church and even though I’ve not ever been religious, I’d stop and linger, thirty or forty five minutes after everyone walked inside. I don’t know what it was, or why I’d stayed there, but this song always filled me with hope, and put me in this whole state of calm.”

The first time, she doesn’t note how he winces. Because she winces, as well, that C sharp note, just so sharp.

The second time, she notes how the night sky lights up, brighter than mid-day and she counts. One slow note, the second note lagging behind, and the third just a bit too quickly. And with the crack of lightning, she hits the wrong key again, loud and now flat. He winces again.

But now his hands are relaxed, one on her knee, the other no longer gripping the couch pillow. And there’s a curl at the right side of his mouth, Nate is smiling.

I felt sad for Jill in her latest video. 😢 she was really upset

I just watched it and yea, she does seem genuinely devastated in the part where she talks about it alone and I really do feel for her.

I don't want to repost the video just because I feel weird about it but here are some notes I took while watching:

- ok well first, I saw it was over 20 minutes long, which just made me very afraid of what was to come

- Jill plays a recorded face time of her and Nurie telling Kaylee about her pregnancy from Florida, which just struck me as so weird at first. I guess it shouldn't bc I'm sure she was going to include it in some even longer announcement video if the pregnancy had been viable, but its unclear if everyone involved knows is being recorded, especially bc Kaylee in particular sounds more normal then I've ever heard her in my whole time of watching these guys. The thought that Jill might just record video calls all the time with the intention of posting them on YouTube kinda skeeves me out.

- She also includes some videos of the kids talking about her miscarriage on their own which, ya know, ok whatever you wanna do, but Nurie and Renee do it out in a boat in the middle of the water for some reason? And it's so windy and noisy while they're having this emotional conversation, it just creates a very weird and slightly irritating (for me or anyone else with sensory issues) atmosphere. Also Jill's editing of said video is god awful (more on that in a few bullet points).

- there is a little mini sideshow of just pictures of Jill on the beach

- Jill says she had "weeks" of intense pain that felt like labor pains. Which, listen, if she did all the things pictured in her little slideshow while she was in that kind of pain, I'll give it to her, that's very impressive. I'm sad she felt like she HAD to do all that but impressed that she did. She shows herself performing at churches, looking after grandkids, going out, etc.

- ok so there are several areas where the older girls in particular are talking about the miscarriage and their feelings about it, and Jill will literally cut them off MID sentence and edit out god knows how much of what they're saying.......... it is so frustrating and I can't help but notice she only does this once to herself (and when she does there's no confusion about what she's saying or the point she's trying to make). At one point Renee is saying "I can't wait to meet my six siblings in heaven someda-" and is literally cut off right there, it filled me with rage. I want to know what they're saying!!!

- Jill, Nurie, and Kaylee are so obsessed with being pregnant together.........I just..... don't relate. They mention it at least 5 times.

- she has Sadie (who's 9) read a short, sweet letter she wrote to Jill about her miscarriage for Valentines Day on camera.

- Jill goes over all of her miscarriages, which I know a lot of people are aware of but here is what she says for those who don't know: her first ever pregnancy was a miscarriage, followed by 9 viable pregnancies. Right after they decided to do their traveling, full time ministry and just as she turned 30, she had 3 miscarriages in a row, then Olivia, then one more miscarriage. After that she had Sadie, Sofia, and Janessa right in a row, which then brings us to her latest miscarriage.

- They chose the name 'Reagan' in honor of president Reagan, and because it was gender neutral and they hadn't been far along enough to know the gender. Jill says that she's named all of her miscarriages with a name that ends in -an or -en, in birth order they are: Morgan, Aaron (ends with an -on but ok), Lauren, Jordan, Nolan, and then Reagan.

Very par for the course Jill video but like I said, I do think she's genuinely upset and had a particularly painful few weeks, all of which makes me feel awful for her.

I've been tagged in a good number of New Year messages, and I sincerely appreciate them. So I thought of also giving back and continuing the good cheer and positivity especially at the start of the year 💖

There were several times when I felt inadequate, felt like I wasn't contributing enough, or I wasn't connecting enough to the people in the fandom.
