OOOH okay! So I have been reading plenty of this blog about your N-Sewell thoughts would just like to say "I tip my hat to you from one legend to another" xD.
Now I gotta ask! Since I am also somewhat new, if you have some fun information or headcannons about your Detective Suri and Nate!!!
Especially now that the relationship route in book 3 is both steamy but also sweet!!!!
Hello, my friend! You are so very sweet - thank you for taking the time to read my thoughts! Truly, I have so very many of them regarding my favorite fictional character.
Thank you for asking! Here are some of my favorite Nate and Suri, “Nuri” headcanons (you’ll see some align with canon and some are just what I’ve cultivated in my mind and with friends between the books):
* At some point, Nate and Suri elope. It’s a wonderfully impulsive and romantic decision. Afterwards, Suri is Suri Batra-Sewell and she will gently inform, remind, correct anyone that calls her Batra (I guess it’ll be Agent now? Agent Batra-Sewell)
* They adopt a dog, a small terrier. Fluffy, furry, full of personality , and very cute. Perhaps up to fifteen pounds. His name is Bishop
* Suri’s grandfather is Arab and she’s always wanted to learn Arabic to be, at least, conversational. It is a very good opportunity for them to learn together
* There is a lot of romantic and romantic, physical affection between them (pretty touchy-feely)
* Adam is important to Nate, his oldest friend. Thus, Suri has made an effort to get to know him and befriend him, and she is glad she has. Because Adam is actually pretty great
* Suri likes poetry, and sneaks in a few lines to Nate. Whether spoken in a private moment or written on a note and left in his jacket pocket or in a book he’s reading. Favorite poets include Rumi, Khalil Gibran, and Pablo Neruda
* Whether they’ve communicated it or not, they both know that despite the attraction and feelings of love have come easy, this relationship isn’t necessarily so. They know that it’ll take time, work, and believing in each other and themselves (well she does, anyway!)
*Suri is as protective of Nate as he is of her
* Before book three, my friend and I hc’d that Nate called Suri ‘hayati’ and she called him ‘rouhi’. Now after book three, that’s switched!

Not of the Ars Goetia kind, but she is in the same circles.
She's the smallest out of the three and is based on the Geat eared Night Jar
She looks up to the Ars Goetia, i had an idea of her being just an awkode admire or friend of Octavia, but im not sure. I mean, am i really gonna use these outside of just character design? probably not, but still xD
I just figured you'd see her admireing the night skies. Maybe she has dragon ancestor's due to them looking a little dragonish?

I felt sad for Jill in her latest video. 😢 she was really upset
(tw: miscarriage)
I just watched it and yea, she does seem genuinely devastated in the part where she talks about it alone and I really do feel for her.
I don't want to repost the video just because I feel weird about it but here are some notes I took while watching:
- ok well first, I saw it was over 20 minutes long, which just made me very afraid of what was to come
- Jill plays a recorded face time of her and Nurie telling Kaylee about her pregnancy from Florida, which just struck me as so weird at first. I guess it shouldn't bc I'm sure she was going to include it in some even longer announcement video if the pregnancy had been viable, but its unclear if everyone involved knows is being recorded, especially bc Kaylee in particular sounds more normal then I've ever heard her in my whole time of watching these guys. The thought that Jill might just record video calls all the time with the intention of posting them on YouTube kinda skeeves me out.
- She also includes some videos of the kids talking about her miscarriage on their own which, ya know, ok whatever you wanna do, but Nurie and Renee do it out in a boat in the middle of the water for some reason? And it's so windy and noisy while they're having this emotional conversation, it just creates a very weird and slightly irritating (for me or anyone else with sensory issues) atmosphere. Also Jill's editing of said video is god awful (more on that in a few bullet points).
- there is a little mini sideshow of just pictures of Jill on the beach
- Jill says she had "weeks" of intense pain that felt like labor pains. Which, listen, if she did all the things pictured in her little slideshow while she was in that kind of pain, I'll give it to her, that's very impressive. I'm sad she felt like she HAD to do all that but impressed that she did. She shows herself performing at churches, looking after grandkids, going out, etc.
- ok so there are several areas where the older girls in particular are talking about the miscarriage and their feelings about it, and Jill will literally cut them off MID sentence and edit out god knows how much of what they're saying.......... it is so frustrating and I can't help but notice she only does this once to herself (and when she does there's no confusion about what she's saying or the point she's trying to make). At one point Renee is saying "I can't wait to meet my six siblings in heaven someda-" and is literally cut off right there, it filled me with rage. I want to know what they're saying!!!
- Jill, Nurie, and Kaylee are so obsessed with being pregnant together.........I just..... don't relate. They mention it at least 5 times.
- she has Sadie (who's 9) read a short, sweet letter she wrote to Jill about her miscarriage for Valentines Day on camera.
- Jill goes over all of her miscarriages, which I know a lot of people are aware of but here is what she says for those who don't know: her first ever pregnancy was a miscarriage, followed by 9 viable pregnancies. Right after they decided to do their traveling, full time ministry and just as she turned 30, she had 3 miscarriages in a row, then Olivia, then one more miscarriage. After that she had Sadie, Sofia, and Janessa right in a row, which then brings us to her latest miscarriage.
- They chose the name 'Reagan' in honor of president Reagan, and because it was gender neutral and they hadn't been far along enough to know the gender. Jill says that she's named all of her miscarriages with a name that ends in -an or -en, in birth order they are: Morgan, Aaron (ends with an -on but ok), Lauren, Jordan, Nolan, and then Reagan.
Very par for the course Jill video but like I said, I do think she's genuinely upset and had a particularly painful few weeks, all of which makes me feel awful for her.

Meta- Van Zieks and the Fleur-de-lis: Why It’s the Perfect Symbol for Him
My English major disease is acting up again, so it’s time for more meta!
**MAJOR DGS2 ENDGAME SPOILERS AHEAD**
One of Barok's prominent symbols is a little insignia called the Fleur-de-lis. Chances are you've seen the symbol before even if you didn't know it's proper name; it's an ancient symbol with religious, patriotic, and heraldic significance in the West. We can see it here on Barok's broach.
It's been stylized a bit in Barok's design, you may notice; in the real world, it looks like this
So what is this symbol? If you know a bit of French, you may be aware that "lis" means lily, but if you know your flowers, you can probably see that it doesn't really resemble a lily. They symbol is so ancient that it's hard to be certain exactly what flower inspired it, but most scholars agree that it was probably a type of iris called a yellow flag.
So basically from the moment Barok appeared on screen, his use of the Fleur-de-lis indicated two things to the astute observer: his relationship to Iris, and his misleading title (the Reaper of the Bailey).
Did character designer Nuri Kazuya take these things into consideration when he chose this symbol for Barok? It's possible: his handwritten notes in the DGS 2 art book prove that he did some research into the meaning of the Fleur-de-lis.
Next to the Fleur-de-lis, he's written 信仰 (religious faith), 知恵 (wisdom), and 騎士道 (chivalry), and beneath that, 三位一体 (3 in 1, i.e. the holy trinity).
Personally, I think it would be very poetic if the center part of the lower portion of the Fleur-de-lis, the bit that looks like the blade of a sword, represented Klint, the flourish on the left represented Barok, and the flourish on the right represented Iris. Barok, as Nuri has mentioned in the art book, is the human embodiment of shadow in London's justice system, and Klint was the light, but as we know, he lost his way in the darkness himself. In other words, he's half light and half shadow. Iris, being a sweet and cheerful child who strives to make things better for everyone around her, is pure light. Klint is the blade who drove Barok and Iris apart. If not for his crimes, Barok could have been a part of his niece's life from the beginning. However, he's also the centerpiece who unites them, as Iris could never have been born without Klint to be her father.
Historically, the Fleur-de-lis has appeared on the flask of oil used to anoint the French king, indicating that his claim to the throne was a right given to him by God. I find this interesting because, as I've mentioned before in another post, Ryuunosuke’s crest is the chrysanthemum, the symbol of the Japanese emperor. Until after WWII, the Japanese believed that their emperor was literally descended from one of their most powerful gods, and that's where his right to rule came from. So essentially there is an anointed king of the East and West standing across from each other in the courtroom.
The Fleur-de-lis can also sometimes be seen at the top of a compass, in the position of die north. It's a symbol that the compass user can orient themselves with, true and unwavering, not unlike Barok's sense of justice.
Unfortunately not all of the Fleur-de-lis's uses in history were positive. It was also the shape of the branding iron used on criminals in France in the middle ages. There can be no doubt that those who bear the name of Van Zieks carry the indelible mark of Klint’s crimes. Even though Barok played no part in the murders, he still suffered under the consequences of what his brother had done. He unknowingly became Stronghart's pawn, haunted by his grief over the loss of Klint, isolated by his loss of faith in others and their fear of his reputation as the Reaper.
Anyway, there you have it. If anyone else knows more about the Fleur-de-lis and the symbolism behind it as it relates to Barok,I'd be fascinated to hear it.

The water laps at their skin, gently; the guitar strumming in the background only adding to their current state of bliss and unawareness of the world outside of the room.
After countless days and weeks spent under the Moroccan sun, and the equally oppressing and delightful heat present in the region, his skin has managed to turn what could be described as olive. To his eyes, at least. Joe (of course), has made it abundantly clear that, no, Nuri*. It is not by any stretch of the mind noticeable.
But then again, he’s also been more insistent on covering every inch of his skin with both lips and his tongue. More so than usual. And that is saying something.
His money’s on Joe being full of it.
As Nicky muses on how much of a liar he is, he in turn brings Nicky’s fingers, intertwined with his own, into his line of sight.
Even after more than three quarters of a millennia (giver or take a couple years), he can’t help but marvel at the way his dark skin blends into Nicky’s; the tone difference still being noticeable, but less so than usual. 1) I am confused: I thought the BRIDAL shower would mean gifts for the bride and not for the groom? 2) J&K look so cute together. I think they just match well. He seems to be so gentle and calm just like her. The Rods are weird but the two Sons-in-law seem to be really into their wives. I don’t know if that made sense… 3) the voices are so normal when they don’t notice Jill filming 4) Did Hosanna have another kid? That child seems to old for 2 years 🧐 5) the aesthetic is … but: a lot of effort!
I'm pretty certain I answered a lot of these questions around the time of Nurie's bridal shower but y'all know my relationship with tumblrs search and archive feature so I'm not even going to try to find it lol.
1. Some people use the terms "Bridal shower" and "wedding shower" interchangeably. Historically "bridal showers" were just for women/girls but there's a growing trend of involving husbands (usually then it's called a "couples" or "wedding" shower).
2. Me and my husband did a joint shower, usually that means both men and women are invited (which we did) but Kaylee seems to have invited mainly women to hers which if you're including you husband also is weird.
3. Not sure which kid you're referring to since Hosanna has a baby on her lap, but I think there just were a lot of babies and kids around that I didn't recognize. She could've been holding/next to someone else's.
4. Agree I think Kaylee and Jonathan seem very similar! He kind of gives me golden retriever energy, like maybe not the sharpest knife in the drawer but genuine and sweet lol.
5. As far as Rodrigues decorating goes, this party probably was the most palatable for me. There's still the Jill signature decorating technique of doing way too much in the areas that need it least but overall I think it was fine and not too distracting (better than Nurie's imho but I'll try to dig up those pics to compare).
