#sure the shortened season messed a lot do stuff up

So I think the worst take of the fandom is that all of the problems of the show would have been fixed had it gotten a full S3. That literally any problem the show had merely came from the shortening. This is... Well, just blatantly shows that the fandom not only doesn't understand how the animation industry works AND doesn't want to actually look at the narrative they did choose to focus on post the shortening call that were just... baffling.
So first let's establish how much of the show was affected by the Shortening. As a fandom, we found out about it during the hiatus between S1 and 2. This was at earliest, August 2020 since the S1 finale came out late August 2020. Dana has claimed two things that are important to this timeline. 1: The shortening was decided on shortly before the finale came out and 2: That the first episode affected by Covid, which would have been back in March/April, was Looking Glass Ruins. So we EXPLICTLY know that the shortening didn't affect the show until after S2 Ep 5.
BUT then we get into production schedules. Before S2 even BEGAN airing, we were told to stop campaigning for a full S3 because they had to get started on storyboards for the season and that was effectively the firm deadline. This means ALL of S2 was effectively done in script and storyboards by the time S2 aired. This makes sense to keep a weekly schedule and the like and most animation professionals will tell you they work MONTHS in advance of release, bare minimum.
This means, AT BEST, S2B was when the shortening really kicked in. And yes, S2B has pacing issues. It has issues in general and is when most people think the quality of the show dropped. The problem is that... The signs were always there. There's a reason why there's been a backlash because as people become disillusioned with the show, you have to ask what was driving so much before.
And a lot of that was potential. S1 is so good when you first watch it because it keeps teasing the idea that it's going to tackle things in a complex way. That it will explore concepts like Amity's abusive family, magic, fantasy vs reality, etc. like that. It's why the fandom was at its strongest during S1.
Unfortunately, the problem with presenting good ideas and then not executing on them, or completely gutting them is that those old parts are a lot harder to enjoy. As Willow was effectively not a character for half a season and then just suddenly was a jock, people began to realize the fact that she in the show is much more a plot device than anything else. They claimed "We're not doing the one kind act into friendship and forgiveness thing with Amity and Willow" and then literally did NOTHING with it until S2B and eventually DID just do the same trope anyways but now with less resonance than it would have had in Understanding Willow.
Not only that but even S1 didn't give a single shit about its worldbuilding. The First Day has Dana Terrace as a lead writer on it. If anyone knows the worldbuilding best, it should be her... So why is it that no one talks about multi-coven things being illegal? It's literally just used as meta commentary and so they entirely ignore the worldbuilding they have. Reaching Out is exactly the same, with Dana as the SOLE writer of that where Amity and everyone else treats joining a coven like going to college and not literally the word of the law.
But S1 couldn't even keep Wild Witches consistent. Half the time Eda can chill and not worry. She can go to a place funded by the EC like Hexide and not flinch for a second that Bump might call the guards on her despite that being kind of the ONE real rule to their society that makes it not just our world but with teeth. Then again, the show gives NO FUCKS about its own stuff, willing excising portions of itself that it finds cumbersome. Escaping Expulsion is BEFORE Looking Glass Ruins and yet it murders Luz's magical potential in its sleep and also discards Amity's family as easily disposable, despite how much the show claims her mother's influence is the reason why Amity behaved the way she did for all of... Three appearances? Because Amity's arc isn't actually good.
It shouldn't be surprising S2 would do this though when the writers already struggled to do anything with Luz's magic. If she's supposed to be learning and growing... Even S1 is shit at this and is repetitive. Not just with the at least three times we do "King has a minion!" B plot that isn't funny and doesn't do anything but also with its lessons. Luz theoretically learns to listen to Eda in the third episode and arguably the second as well. Then she gets her first glyph with the lesson, in theory. of not trying to take shortcuts to do magic and to not steal.
And then in Adventure in the Elements, not even to impress Amity but because of her impatience, she steals something to take a shortcut to stronger magic. That is THREE episodes of the first TWELVE of the series. It usually takes most kids shows at least a LITTLE longer to be that bad at retreading its own lessons.
And the final part of this is that... S2 actually had to be effectively the exact same as it was for s3 to happen. You need the foreshadowing of the Collector for the Day of Unity. You need to FINALLY do something with Belos for the revelations of the Human Realm to happen and to do Luz's angst arc. You need Hunter to be at least 90% redeemed so he's there on their side during The Day of Unity, etc. like that. Then you get half a season in the human realm before coming back to the Isles for half a season, just like Amphibia did because returning home is the best mid-season finale you can have there. So any argument that a full S3 would have actually fixed issues with S2B is just... Wrong. The problems with S2B come with the fact that S2A wastes a FUCKTON of time on elements that don't matter.
Oh, and lest we forget that The Collector could have been cut. He had one appearance in a dream, that also doesn't make sense with his characterization, before S2B. In the fact, the crew has admitted as much. He was added AFTER the news of the Shortening because they always wanted to include a character like him so now that they didn't have the time for him... Cram him in anyways.
Could a show have EVER been saved when that's how they treat one of their two final antagonists? It's the sort of statement that just solidifies the idea that TOH didn't want three seasons. It wanted five... If not just to go on forever. To be the next monolithic show, even as it repeats character arcs, lessons and shrinks characters rather than expands them.
So no, the show isn't bad because of the shortening. The show is bad because the writing is bad.

I was so nervous today but it ended up being perfectly fine and I'm so excited. I'm also exhausted. But tomorrow will be a good day and I'm really happy right now.
I slept really good last night but I really wish I could have something more. I woke up was a pretty bad upset stomach because I was nervous but I would be fine and James made me breakfast and packed me I cinnamon roll before they left and then I finished getting ready and I left too. I was a little frustrated that James had put cinnamon roll and a container that was bigger than my backpack but that was fine. I didn't really care in the end I just really appreciate that they make me something to eat.
I did do a bad job remember to actually packing real lunch. I just brought cheese crackers and an apple. But I would be good because I was with very busy.
I got there at 8:30 just meeting Elizabeth. And I went to the heaters started over in the arts and crafts building and then I made the loop around so that I would make sure that all the programs were ready to go and I only needed a few supplies that I would drop off later. I went the office to meet the parents you were volunteering to teach each section. And they ended up being so nice! Super helpful. Honestly I had such a good day today regardless of anything. Me being scared because it was my first time for a little uncomfortable because I was cold. I was just having fun.
After I got the parents set up I went back to the lodge to make sure I knew what I was doing and checked him with Elizabeth and then we just waited for the kids. I ended up being almost a half an hour late but that was fine. I just had to shorten my intro a bit and we had to shift some times around. But it ended up not even mattering because the parents were going so fast through their programs and not filling the entire half hour. I hope that the group next week listens to instructions a little bit better about that but it's okay. We got them off the bus and into their seat soon enough.
Once we have them into seats I did my intro and I messed up a few times. Specifically with word piscataway. Because I stumbled and then I second guessed myself. But honestly I think my intro was good because I was super enthusiastic and then I sent everyone off. I really didn't have much to do in between. I would help fair out fixing the times on the schedule because the math was confusing for us for some reason. But then I was able to just sit and read and I did some research about languages which was fun. For the Native American stuff. And comparing dictionaries that I found online. I had a great time.
I would spend some time down in the office with talking to Heather and Alexi and Elizabeth about the research that I had done and we figured out some entomology stuff which was cool that I want to look into more. And Heather said that I was doing such a good job and then I sounded really good on the walkie and that felt really nice. And I was really positive about the changes that I can probably make going forward. And Heather said next year when they are more opened up that I could probably take this over as an almost full-time job. It would be Monday through Thursday and it wouldn't be full 8-hour days. But it would be consistent and because it is seasonal like everything else I do it would be something that was a little bit more guaranteed. And that was really exciting.
So by the time we were finished together a great mood and my closing speech was really good because I asked a lot of questions and had a lot of interactions with the kids. And then I cleaned up all the areas. Elizabeth had to run to go do some stuff for weddings and catering. But I packed everything up so that she could grab it later and talk to Heather for a while. Then I headed home!
I was really really tired. We just had leftovers for dinner. And I have basically been laying down since then. Which is why I'm writing this post so early because I would like to go back to sleep. And I just feel really positive about today and I hope that I can keep that positive feeling going forward. I hear James arguing about sports in the other room and it's making me laugh. And I hope you all have a laugh tonight too. Good night everybody.

An intro post~
(Literally only the second day of starting my own blog but I was procrastinating loong enough)
Hello! Good morning/afternoon/night. You may call me Electron/Lex or any shortened form of that name. It's short for Life As An Electron™ patented by moi. You can also call me Hope. I tend to change my name a lot though so you just gotta be on the lookout. I won't be changing it so often though for everyone's sake XD
A deeper intro under the cut! (yay, I finally learned how to do this)
As for interests, well I really like MBTI. I like learning about cognitive functions and just general knowledge and addressing common stereotypes that people assume from my personality type to others. I used to have an account on 16personalities until I eventually deleted that account because it was messing with my mental health. This doesn't mean I stay away from it, even if I did take a short break from MBTI, I returned to learning about it some more. It's a fasinating topic, and I'd recommend y'all to check it out.
Why the heck do I make such long paragraphs? Damn, I might as well be in an interview.
I also have a deep fascination with license plates. No, I am not a hacker or a kidnapper or anything of the sort. I simply just like to look at the different states portrayed through it and have made some favorites (Arizona's looks awesome, Kentucky's literally looks like a cloud and it's the same shape as the state, and New Mexico's just sucks in terms of layout and color scheme).
The fandoms I'm in are MHA (though I have only watched 1 season and 1 episode of the next season but know plenty of concept spoilers) aaaaand, huh, that's it- It changes a lot though, this is just what I'm intreasted in for now. I also like Demon Slayer as well, and do understand some Genshin references though I've stopped playing the game.
Feel free to ask me some questions because I have no clue what y'all want to know. This is just what I could recall from the top of my head.
Now, I would like to clarify some things I've touched upon in my description. If you haven't read it yet, I suggest you read it, because it has an overview of some of the topics I'm talking (typing?) about here (and if you're offended by some of the things I've said, then suck it up. Nah, you can defiantly talk to me, but only if you are respectful).
I've mentioned that I will not be posting much, and while this was true (I was a lurk blog at first, then interacted with some blogs), I'm going to be posting a whole lot more. Mainly about random things or topics that spring into my head, stuff that's been bothering me, or otherwise low effort posts. Just stuff from daily life and shitty things like that (but there will be no extremely personal details. I would like to live a peaceful life far away from the CIA and the FBI/jk). I'll also be reblogging random stuff that I like or asks that people answered for me and things of that sort.
I am starting to open up and interact with people more so defiantly say hi if you spot me somewhere.
And one of the (few) last things. Yes, I have a kink. More specifically, a sneeze kink. So you might come across something that I've reblogged that you may be curious about but I'm clarifying it here. This blog, however, won't be a snz-centered blog and will not typically make my own posts about it, though you may see me dwell on it from time to a distant time. I am asexual as far as I could tell and maybe aro though I am not sure so you won't be seeing explicit NSFW kink related stuff over here, mainly because I myself am not comfortable indulging in that content. With that being said, this blog will be suitable for the general public and you can most defiantly reblog my content around, but make sure to ask for permission if I've reblogged content from other snz-centered blogs. They may not be comfortable with content going out of the community. So, yes, snz-community, I'm one of y'all, don't worryy XD
I FORGOT TO MENTION SOMETHING CRUCIAL. I am highly religious. I won't be revealing my religion though but maybe I will in the future. I'm just not looking for any backlash because my religious beliefs are at a minority. So, like I've mentioned, if you are respectful, then I'll reveal it.
I am a solid introvert and hardcore at that. I have social anxiety and general anxiety issues but I'm constantly working on it. I may come across as cold and or aloof but I'm trying not to be T-T
I'll try to stay consistent with my posts and whatnot, but I'm a busy person so it may be like a week till I update. If I get a lot of traction from people interacting with me (thank you ;D) then I'll try to pump out posts as often as I could. I still don't know to much about Lenny I haven't gotten to seeing the movie yet but I like what I've read about him in stories like yours and the gifs I've seen (🤭 he's very pretty obviously🤭...)
And yes the airports was a very great inspiration at writing! I'm back in school now so I did have to slow down writing a bit though again! I still have a good number of ideas to work on though!:)
Oh and guess what! I did actually try posting some of my writing stuff again and it turned out pretty well! People seemed to like it! And Alfie is definitely one of the most unique characters on the show! I'm so glad he survived, I know it won't happen but I'd love to see a version of peaky blinders from Alfie's point of view, so we could see all the stuff he gets up to when not trying to mess with Tommy😂
Both Breakfest on Pluto and Virgin River sound interesting from how you'd describe them! I'll have to add them to my list!! Also I think The Sandman (the one with Morpheus) is on Netflix but there are plenty of clips online too! But I totally get what you mean about having a hard time getting hooked on other series! 😂 I feel like all the ones I've come close to liking are on a service I don't have or only have like one season😂🥲 plus Peaky Blinders is just brilliant 😂
And I dont really know how to describe it but boba doesn't taste too much like anything sometimes. I know it's make of like molasses or tapioca and they some have like a brown sugar syrup flavoring . But they also have a popping kind which is like gushers that come in all sorts of flavors. In the end boba is like the closest thing I think we have to edible Orbeeze like those little water beads and I can't think of another way to describe it 😂😂
And I guess I will have it try AQP2 if your reccomend😂 though I make have to grab some friends to hide behind just in case. And that does seem odd what you pointed out about Anna. I think I'll have to finish watch the whole thing at some point to try to understand it better 😅 but idk?😂 and that's the great thing I think about having unanswered questions, it leave so much room for my own cannon when writing 🤭😂
For the other books I've read it's been two series I'm trying to do. The first is one called The Strange Case of the Alchemist Daughter, which seems to be like a clump of classic stories mixed together (Sherlock Holmes, Frankenstein, Dr.Jekyll and Mr.Hyde...) and I haven't really stared that one but it seems good! I like stories with the classics. And then the others are some of Agatha Cristi's Hercule Poirot Mysteries. I watched the Murder on The Orient Express and then Death on the Niles movies based on some of them and was hooked😂
Ohhh doing nails is always fun!! I get what you mean about gel though! It last longer than regular polish but it can damage them when it comes off! I have this one color nail polish that I love though because it exactly matches this lip gloss I have (both are by revlon) and wearing them together just makes me feel so powerful😂😂 the matching nails and lips, I love it!
And oohhh yeah inspiration!! And warm weather! Also seeing a concert with your friends sounds like it would be lots of fun!! I'll definitely cross my fingers❤️❤️❤️

Airports, cafés… I love the snippets of inspiration we can get from almost everywhere, by just looking at people, I love to sit around and stare at their mannerisms, their company… I hope you can find a good balance between writing and school, I find it so relaxing, it’s helped me a lot with stress.

No, it’s alright, I’m familiar with a couple of short versions but others are new, so thank you for clarifying that. Well I hope you continue to work on that one, I haven’t seen something like that around, so it’s always nice to find something new to read (that’s what I think, I write what I’m not finding somewhere, that idea that needs to be brought to the table), I think is original and well the difficult situation reader will go through will open endless opportunities for you :)

Oh yes definitely! I personally prefer Emmett because in general he was an important part of the film, vs inAnna they tried to focus in everything but nothing made sense (to me) in the end, like they get Anna involved with two agents from rival agencies and a model girlfriend… like what’s the point? Lenny deserved more credits than he got (I love Lenny he had a huge potential) it’s on Netflix well I found it there the other day, I started playing it and fast forward to Lenny’s parts hahaha to get inspiration for the story… (and I just had a deja vu of Lenny walking into my place with all his men like he did in the movie with the poor gf 😆😂 haha)
Oh wow that first book sounds so interesting! (I love Sherlock Holmes!!) but I never found myself getting hooked with the recent series they did with Benedict like I’m old school and I prefer Robert Downy Jr as Sherlock in the films… 🫠 I have an Agatha book, I’ve always found her books are kind of similar or is just my feeling? Oh! There are films based on Agathat’s book???? I surely have to watch it! I loved an author a while ago, Barbara Freethy she has so many great stories!
You are right about that, I love nails designs!!! I used to watch a tutorial to make them look like marble, pouring nail polish in water and it turned out pretty amazing! (I never did it tho), but yeah the gel benefit is how much it lasts and the finish, so I’m only leaving the gel for “special occasions “ like a wedding or a bridal shower 🤭 ohhh what color is it??? That sounds like the perfect combo!!!! There’s a local brand where you take an old lipstick they don’t make anymore and they fit the color from scratch! 💄 I did it once, I brought one a friend bought for her wedding and I loved it but years later Clinique didn’t make that color anymore so this brand replicated exactly the tone! And there’s a store in LA (I think) where you can bring a blush or eye shadow and even nail polish and they make the exactly same color for you, it’s so cool!
Oh I need you to cross your fingers again for me!! Adele is extending her residence at The Coliseum! I already registered but the presale is in April 5th 🤞🏻💕 and I LOVE Adele so so much, I love going to concerts specially with lovely people who love the same music… what’s the last concert you went to?

We need a filler episode where the Derby trio (Gus, Willow and Hunter) goes on their first solo trip to the grocery store. Most of this was discussed with @sergeantsporks and they added some stuff to the idea.
Gus had avoided going out the house cause he didn't want his first human realm experiences to be embittered by his situation, but by now he's recovered enough to be okay with distracting himself a bit and try to enjoy himself. Willow just wants to get out the house and also support Gus through this. It's no use constantly fretting over something you can't change, she can try to live life a little, right? At least as a distraction. Hunter is also here as support, but he is also treating this as an important mission to repay Miss Noceda and he cannot mess this up. Also he will protect his friends from danger.
• On the way to the store they come across an intersection they have to cross and they have to mentally prepare for it like "We can do this. We can DO THIS!" And Gus makes sure they wait for the green light and look both ways like Camila showed them and they're all strategic about it and they all take each others' hands and Hunter takes the lead like "On my mark- GO GO!" And they run across the not at all crowded road screaming and when it's all done they breathe huge sighs of relief and cling to each other like "Oh my Titan we made it! We're alive!"
• Hunter ends up having a mini breakdown cause the one of the items on the list just says "pasta" and he doesn't want to pick the "wrong" one and fail Camila
• Gus and Hunter end up having multiple "they are smart individually but share a braincell when together" moments
• Gus: "Get the corkscrew pasta. They probably double as gears in a machine."
Hunter: "Oh yeah!"
• Hunter does end up beating up a man at the cheese aisle that they assume is some kind of guardian that they have to defeat every week to earn the right to the cheese.
• It's actually just Jacob in cosplay trying to prevent their "evil plans" (why he assumes groceries are involved is beyond me). But the trio comes back very proud of having defeated the guardian and completing their task.
• The staff doesn't do anything cause they don't get paid enough for this shit and Jacob was harassing customers anyway.
• Despite Hunter most often trying to take charge, Gus is the one everyone looks to for guidance since he is the human expert. A lot of "You used the wrong formula but got the right answer" moments ensue.
• Both Willow and Hunter are trying to cheer Gus up by pointing him to human realm trinkets and while Gus is captivated by the office supplies section, there's still an underlying exhaustion and worry that dampens it.
• Willow takes some time for herself at the potted spices section. The plants here don't respond to her as much, even the demon realm seeds she brought over in her pockets are not growing too well in the human realm soil, and Willow struggles to adjust to keep them alive, and she feels weaker for it. She knows that her power isn't everything, but it's still sonething she worked very hard on and is very important to her.
• Hunter cracks a little due to the stress at some point and Willow has to take charge.
• Hunter and Gus reassure Willow that she is a brilliant captain and friend no matter what, and they all trust her capabilities. Hunter was just trying to do the brunt of the work here to take away the burden for everyone else.
• But all of them have gone through a lot, and trying to hold it all in for the sake of the others won't help.
• On the way back they discuss how everyone's been holding in their own emotions so they wouldn't burden anyone and agree to lean on each other more and work together, rather than someone trying to take charge all the time.
Just throwing the ideas out there and conpiling them into a single post. Too bad season 3 got shortened so we won't get this kind of episode.

Alright here comes a bunch of random Wels things;
The man was in the military for I believe 11 years and got out in 2016 if I remember correctly
He was a jag corp and a court reporter and while he was never in actual combat he has complained several times about when he was drafted to Iraq to sit in an air conditioned office mess with a computer and twiddle his thumbs so some guy could check off a box on a form
He's been married to his absolutely wonderful wife Mrs Wels for over 6 years I believe
He grew up in Wisconsin and is a massive green bay packers fan as you can tell by his Twitter when it's game day
He got the name Welsknight by combining his church name and his school mascot, church name being shortened to Wels and mascot being the knights and there you go: Welsknight
Despite his minesona most frequently being drawn with long blond hair (in the past mainly) he actually has short brown hair hence why people have changed designs to give him brown hair (I give him brown roots that fade into the blonde, thank LT for that idea btw)
One of his most played games is Monster Hunter World and it was very entertaining to watch him stream it during his burnout even when I had no idea what anything was in the game
He's 5'10 and his birthday is actually coming up soon (October 27th) so he'll be 31 in a few weeks or so
He knows how to play guitar and drums but sold his drum set
His family is very musical and they did a Twitch Sings stream together a while back but I don't think the VOD is still up
As a child where he lived parent-teacher conferences n stuff would often be at the teacher's house and one time he went to a teacher's house with his mom, said teacher had a cat and said the cat was really sweet. Turns out no it wasn't because that cat scratched his face the fuck up basically traumatizing him and that is why Wels hates cats
He has a second channel for games that aren't really family friendly and the one I enjoy the most is Binding of Isaac Afterbirth+

In one of his couple craft episodes Mrs Wels showed him a baby bunny and immediately after she mentioned there was one he pulled out his sword and said "where" then proceeded to hit the bunny when he came over to it
This man has it as part of his daily routine to drink at least 3 cups of coffee
He drinks his coffee black like a psychopath and I will never forget when he said "I like my coffee how I like my soul—black as can be and bitter" and when I said that was so emo he said "you'd be surprised" and he wasn't wrong there

Also re:YJ cartoon, as far as i remember we have no clue or at least very little what’s going on in the Bats’ personal lives? When did Jason come into their lives? I’ve skimmed YJ fics that had Jason adopted and living with them behind the scenes of season 1, which is weirdly plausible, bc we know nothing about their day-to-day lives! And like, I personally cannot remember if we know what the deal with Tim’s parents is or if he’s been adopted by Bruce or anything. We don’t even really see him interact with Bruce in any meaningful way iirc? They haven’t even spoken about Jason at all, so if they’re planning to bring him back as the Red Hood/that red ninja guy, that’s gonna have like... zero emotional impact for the audience, especially the people who have no clue who he is bc they skipped him and never mentioned him! It’s a mess!!
I do kinda like Damian being a baby though on some level, ngl. Definitely gets rid of that weird “he was artificially aged!” thing from the comics brought about by Morrison not bothering trying to understand the timeline
YEAH NO IT's.... none of it gets mentioned at all which is... on the one hand yes I understand this isn't a show about the batfam, but on the other IF YOU'RE GOING TO INCLUDE A TON OF BATFAM STUFF YOU SHOULD AT LEAST EXPLAIN SOME OF IT.
Like... season one is honestly the only season that did show us what I consider an appropriate amount of a look into everyone's lives outside the hero stuff, like considering everything going on. We did have like a tiny bit of time at the manor where we saw Bruce and Dick interacting that helped to establish what their relationship was like, etc. And I feel that for each of the initial main team members we got stuff like that where applicable (not really for Raquel tho because she joined so late)
But in seasons 2 & 3 they just keep introducing a million characters without elaborating on the vast majority of them! We only know Bruce is Tim's legal guardian because of Greg's blog, it's not ever discussed in the show itself. No clue on if Cass is adopted now too or not since she got introduced but again was not elaborated on at all. And yeah, like sure they've left a handful of Jason hints across time (his memorial, him showing up in that one part alongside other dead heroes with the goode goggles in season 3, etc) but that's stuff you'll only pick up on if you know who he is, and not every fan of the YJ cartoon knows about him!
The YJ cartoon falls in this fascinating place of 'leaves a lot of things unexplained that you will only get if you read the comics' and 'changes so many things that will actively piss off people who read the comics'
Baby Damian is conceptually something i'm fine with its just how it throws all the ages outta whack in such an extreme way (almost feels like some 'me complaining abt how Tim & Damian's comic age difference got shortened from the original 7 years to like 3 in current comics, so the YJ cartoon said ok then lets MORE THAN DOUBLE the original' monkeys paw bullshit) I just wish he'd been like a toddler or something (closer to Lian's age in that season) so you could assume he was conceived during the original 5 year gap between seasons 1 & 2. I just feel that'd line up better, especially if they want to more properly introduce him at some point.

Dinner-dates with Lois were always nice - good food, stimulating conversation, and excellent company were all a man could ask for, and she certainly made it interesting. Tonight they had picked out a local Italian restaurant in the university district and talked about… well, everything. How his mom was doing, what books the other was currently reading, the subway construction, Clark’s latest article, Lois’ most recent investigation - drug smugglers bringing in goods from Gotham, of all things - and whether lasagna was better with red sauce or alfredo. The discussion moved towards housing prices after Black Zero over a shared dessert of cannolis, and developed into a playful debate over whether the high taxi fare was worth it considering that it was twice as fast as the subway when they finally walked out of the restaurant.
Lois’ apartment wasn’t too far away and the weather was good, so they opted to walk hand-in-hand, simply enjoying each other’s company while they explained whatever articles they were currently working on. Clark was just beginning a short series assigned to him by Perry on recent changes made to libraries in the district and what sort of effects the changes might have on schools and poorer neighborhoods - a bit fluffy, not necessarily investigative but enough to get his wheels turning as he fit all the pieces together. Some of the Metropolis city council members were recommending closing the libraries a bit earlier in the afternoon, which Clark - bookish nerd that he was - was strongly against, and he proceeded to rattle off a list of statistics and arguments that pointed out the issue with shortening library hours while Lois bounced the ideas right back at him with a bit of journalistic review. She herself was currently in the thick of a story revolving around a smuggling ring that was gradually importing narcotics and other illegal items into Metropolis - from what she could tell, the drugs were coming from all over but a majority were ferried over from Gotham. Lois explained in a low voice as they walked that a tentative lead had pointed her towards Mal Sharpe, the owner of a few small businesses in the downtown of both cities, who seemed to have his hands in many pies… including drug trafficking. There was a low-priority warrant out for Mal’s arrest, but that warrant would soon be at the top of everyone’s list if Lois had anything to say about it.
Clark grinned at that, knowing full well that with his girlfriend on the case, it was sure to be resolved within the week. Gently steering the topic towards where they should go for dinner next week, he looped an arm around her shoulder and leaned in to kiss her cheek just as Lois turned to do the same. But instead of her arms slipping beneath his open coat to pull him close, Clark instead felt a sharp tug on his shirt collar, abruptly ending the kiss as it was followed by a kick to the back of his knees.
He hardly felt the blow, but it still caught him by surprise and Clark inwardly cursed when he realized that he had been so focused on Lois, he hadn’t noticed the two men sneaking up behind them - and when one of them pulled out a gun to press it against his head, Clark reconsidered fighting back and silently complied when he was once again shoved to his knees.
Lois’ eyes widened at the sight of the two criminals shoving her boyfriend to the ground, then narrowed dangerously when she spotted the gun in one’s hand and the knife in the other’s.
“What do you want?” she asked slowly, gaze flitting between the knife now pointed at her - a sure threat of what would happen if she screamed for help - and Clark calmly putting his hands on his head in surrender as they waited to be told to hand over their wallets. They both knew that a gun against Clark’s head wouldn’t do him a bit of harm, but their captors didn’t know that and if this was just your common-or-garden hold-up, they would simply comply and Superman or the police could get back whatever was stolen as soon as they were let go. But therein lay the issue: Lois was getting the feeling that this wasn’t just a robbery. It, unfortunately, looked an awful lot like a goddamned hostage situation, and her suspicions were only confirmed when the man holding the knife spoke up.
“Boss heard that you were sticking your nose where it isn’t wanted, writing a story about some stuff he brought over from Gotham,” he answered, “So Boss has decided to send you a very clear message: drop the story, or your boyfriend here is gonna go to bed tonight in a body bag.”
Clark winced as the gun was shoved against his skull, emphasizing his captors’ point, but Lois, instead of looking downright terrified, happened to look downright pissed.
“Alright, you’re Mal’s boys, aren’t you? I imagine that he’ll be pretty pissed when he hears that your hostage plan fell through.”
One look at her face, and Clark’s already-a-bit-dismayed spirits dropped - she was going to try something, and he wasn’t sure if it would end well. He knew for a fact that the gun currently pressed against his temple wouldn’t do him much harm, but it was still a little nerve-wracking to keep up the act of being scared while actually, genuinely scared and making sure said gun wasn’t pointed at Lois.
Clark was… well, Clark was a farmboy. He had grown up in the middle of Kansas where just about everyone’s pa owned a rifle of some sort, so it wasn’t as if he had never seen a gun before, it was just that he wasn’t used to having one pointed at him. Duck season had made him plenty familiar with what guns could do, and even though he knew it couldn’t hurt him, that did not mean that he was completely comfortable with it and to be perfectly honest, it made him just a little bit sick to his stomach.
“It ain’t gonna fall through,” one of Clark’s captors glowered suspiciously, breaking his train of thought, and Lois almost snorted in derision at the claim, hands on her hips as she snarled.
“Look, dumbass, anyone who's read the Daily Planet knows the sort of people I go after, and they also know that said people almost always end up behind bars. I’m not your cocky, everyday journalist who happened to dig up some dirt on your operation - nah, I’m ‘Mad Dog’ Lane, Pulitzer Prize investigator, queen of the front page - and if you think pointing a gun at my boyfriend’s head will get me to drop a story once I’ve got it in my teeth, than you’d better fucking think again!”
Clark felt both men stiffen behind him, clearly rethinking having messed with someone as well-known as Lois, but their fear of Boss Mal’s wrath was just the littlest bit stronger than that of a tall red-headed journalist cussing them out.
“I don’t know what the hell you’re talking about, Lane,” the man with the knife said decidedly, working up the courage to take a threatening step towards her, “But if you don’t want to do this here, we could easily take both of you along and get this whole thing cleared up in front of the Bo-”
Clark should have expected her to know at least some basic self-defense moves, considering her history of going into dangerous warzones and offices only to walk right back out with the info she wanted and a few bruises on her otherwise flawless figure, but seeing her in action was admittedly a little surprising. Lois Joanne Lane was an army brat through and through, so it was honestly no trouble to knock the knife out his grip with a simple wrist chop and the same ferocious elegance she used to mix her coffee. A moment later, she had kicked the weapon out of the man’s reach, sending it skittering across the asphalt, and promptly disabled her would-be attacker with a sharp knee to the crotch.
While his friend was groaning on the ground, the man holding Clark hostage fumbled with his gun, suddenly caught off-guard and having to decide between threatening his captive and pointing the weapon at Lois before Clark made the decision for him. Remembering the few moves Darcie had managed to drill into his head during one of her failed attempts to teach him the proper way to hit someone, he shoved his elbow back to make contact with the man’s nose, careful to limit the amount of force he used so that the bone was only broken and not the entire face. It worked better than he had expected, and before he knew it, both of the attackers were lying on the ground, one squirming uncomfortably and the other trying to stem the flow of blood suddenly rushing from his nose.
Clark hardly noticed their screaming as he jumped to his feet, absently rubbing the spot where the gun had been pressed against his head as he caught Lois’ arm to ask, “Are you alright?”
“I’m fine!” she all but laughed, her good mood not disturbed one bit by the whole situation, “Damn, this will make for an excellent follow-up piece to the article on Mal and his gang’s activities. What about you, babe - are you feeling okay?”
“Me? Yeah… I’m fine too,” he answered slowly, even though it was the farthest thing from the truth. Having a gun to his head had shaken him up more than a little, despite the fact that they both knew it couldn’t do him any harm.
It’d been frightening, knowing that both him and Lois were in danger and there wasn’t a thing he could do about it, yet her ecstatic mood - over a hostage situation, he had to remind himself - was more than a little infectious, and he was already feeling a little bit better by the time she had managed to get ahold of the police to report the incident. By the time they had given their statements to the two officers that arrived to the scene and finally reached Lois’ apartment, his anxiety was finally beginning to lose its clenching hold around his lungs and a hot cup of tea diminished it further - it was only when his hands finally stopped shaking that the hilarity of the whole situation finally dawned on him. Clark couldn’t wait to see Darcie’s face when she heard.

Dana Terrace AMA (Part 3)
Pink Stripe, AKA Amity’s look-alike from our world is confirmed to more or less be like a… Proto-Amity of sorts, so she’s more of an easter egg than anything else! That, or she’s a repurposed Easter Egg and WILL have lore… But more than likely there isn’t meant to be any counterparts in the human world on neither an in-universe nor writing perspective!
The Twins are salty over Grom, but will also have stuff to ‘distract’ them… This kind of screams ‘Blight family development’ a lot, doesn’t it? Probably Amity standing up to her parents and the twins likely taking her side, or at least acting from a place of protecting Amity… I can only hope these ‘distractions’ are good things, but who am I kidding?
Bird-themes are a Clawthorne thing, which really makes me wonder more about Owl Mask, especially since the Blights have never been associated with Owls before… Is this a long-lost cousin, parent, sibling? Child, even…?! Why didn’t Lilith nor Eda speak of them? I have to wonder if Eda’s ring is going to come into play here, if it was used to make some sort of ‘construct’ that is Owl Mask, who has a connection to Eda and is able to track her down as a result… And if Luz will pull off something similar with her shard of Belos’ mask once the truth is revealed!
Dana alludes to her favorite character having already been met, but not HIS face… While this could be Belos, I feel like these last two episodes count as a ‘proper meeting’ by now, which indicates she’s talking of Owl Mask… Which indicates that Owl Mask is a dude, but I can’t say for sure! Dana also said she has a bunch of other faves we’ve seen in some capacity, but not really, and I have to wonder if this includes the Blight Parents, the Heads of the Covens, etc.!
Eda’s been to Vegas, and she wasn’t impressed! Stan also got married in Vegas… Also, Eda would beat Lilith at Hexes Hold ‘Em, though she’d of course cheat! Though she also cheated in Grudgby but still turned out to be the better player in the end, so…!
We have confirmation that Coven Bindings also restrict very basic spells like levitation, even if they are still possible! This implies that there are base spells that don’t really fit into any category but are restricted nonetheless, or that you CAN do very minor spells from other categories, but as Dana said, it’s a lot harder and weaker! That implies such spells aren’t supposed to be accessible, which really furthers how Belos makes people dependent upon the system he’s created!
Dana also said that Witches can’t physically perform spells, which implies that the Coven Binding works on a body-level, and not as a mental block… Meaning it may be possibly for Glyphs to get around them! If so, then Luz is going to accidentally start a revolution and Belos will NOT be pleased, I have to wonder if he worked from the shadows to make a shift to Bile magic or at least focused on suppressing memory of Glyphs as a potential work-around to his Coven bindings! Everything DID change with Luz, huh…?
Also, ‘Wizard’ is apparently just a generic title (as implied by Episode 2), and there was a scrapped line alluding to Warlock=Edgelord!
Palismans are confirmed to have their own separate power source, so Eda can still cast magic without glyphs the way Luz did in the Season Finale! Witches will carve them from a special type of wood as teens (so before they join a Coven), usually at school or while their parents are watching… However, Dana alludes to that special wood no longer being around! Is Belos burning down the source of palismans because they’re a potential workaround to his Coven Bindings? Is he seizing the resource to make Palismans for himself? Did somebody else do it to keep Belos from making Palismans, what about the giant tree we see the Bat Queen fly off to, is this one of the final remnants of that ‘special wood’ that Palismans are made of?
We also know that Lilith’s palisman IS alive, which just furthers my idea that Eda is unusual in that she treats Owlbert as more than just a living battery, or an AI to give orders to but completely forget about otherwise! I love you Eda, you love everyone and everything for what they truly are and no wonder the Bat Queen trusted you…!
Dana alludes towards Parental Conflict in Season 2, so likely stuff about the Blight Parents, but also maybe Camila? She also mentions Island Exploration, so we’ll likely be seeing the hand… MAN, this keeps reminding me of Bionicle (specifically that one concept that was never explored) and I am LIVING for it! I have to wonder if the Titan’s hand is related to a potential staff/palisman, how it cast magic, etc… If there’s something in that hand, if it’s clenched around something…
If Eda were to be cured, her hair would still be gray! Also we’ll get a better idea of Belos’ inspirations later in Season 2, but that’s kind of stuff one would already figure out. Dana speaks of a distinction between ‘Hard Apple Blood’ and the stuff they put in juice boxes ‘for babies’, which makes me wonder if it’s like. The distinction between Beer and Root Beer? If Apple Blood is alcoholic, but there’s a non-alcoholic version for kids and it has nutritional value? Does Eda drink alcohol every morning?
Teen Witches enter Covens as soon as they graduate, maybe even earlier if they’re talented! So about seventeen or eighteen… YIKES, I said it before but it IS messed-up that people are expected to immediately figure themselves out permanently at such a young age! Sure the process at least begins to set you down that certain ‘track’ in a literal and metaphorical sense when high school begins, but that’s so much pressure! Belos sure is eager to shorten the pipeline between schools and his Covens… And while options within a Coven are possible, that’s still SO MUCH that’s permanently removed from your possibilities!
Willow works out every morning but doesn’t brag about it, unlike Boscha! Why am I gasping, I already knew that… Buff Willow, just love the idea that before we saw her in Episode 3, she had recently finished pumping her muscles! And that when she talks to Luz in the morning in Really Small Problems, she’d just finished a work-out or was even in the midst of it! I wonder why Willow works out, to help with gardening, or just because? Still, STRONK Willow! Recontextualizes her skill in Grudgby, even if her stamina when it comes to running could use some improvement!
The Construction Coven is the most ‘obscure’ of the tracks, makes sense it’s the sleeve-color we see least, and naturally sculptors and architects are a part of it! Eda’s bile-sac stopped producing magic bile, which basically means her curse caused organ failure, yikes… But yeah, this makes it clear that Witches don’t exactly have ‘finite’ reserves of magic, or at the very least they recharge… But clearly the curse is messing with Eda!
Luz is confirmed to just be oblivious, that she doesn’t realize that Amity has a crush on her! She’s also been distracted by Eda’s curse, which really speaks to her being ADHD… But I have to wonder that if Eda’s curse becomes less of an issue, she may have more room to explore Amity’s flustered reactions around her…?
And… that’s about it! Besides basic confirmation on getting to learn more about literally everyone in Season 2, or stuff we already knew (like Willow and Amity still not exactly being friends, but at least having a good start)! This was a FASCINATING lore-dump, a brilliant AMA, and my first one ever and it did NOT disappoint! I found myself constantly refreshing to see Dana’s replies!
There’s also a bunch of other stuff Dana talked about that isn’t related to lore, like her inspirations, how to pitch a show, etc.! So make sure to check that out, I can’t say much there because I’m not exactly an expert on that sort of thing!

Hi! sorry if this is a bother but is there a specific tutorial you followed to learn how to create your own meshes? because every single one i found or someone else linked isn't exactly a tutorial for beginners and requires you to basically already know what your doing.

hello friends! :) tbh there was no one specific tutorial… honestly, i spent a lot of time frankenmeshing to get familiar with the processes and blender but never actually released much
but unfortunately, i definitely don’t recommend starting to create meshes from scratch as a beginner because i know i tried and it did NOT end well alkfjsdalkf
diving into blender without knowing what you’re doing is VERY frustrating, i know from experience LMAO so i’m listing tutorials/resources under the cut from beginner to from-scratch meshing that i know are helpful, have been helpful to my friends, or that i realized after messing around to learn something would’ve helped me a TON

*@deetron-sims‘ specular tutorialthis is a meshing list but i needed to include this because it is a massive pet peeve of mine LMAO i know some people just import blank speculars and specular masks, which works, BUT if the item underneath (ie. tights or if you’re using a shiny mannequin) has any sort of specular or shine at all, then it will show through! you need to create a specular mask based off the alpha of your texture and then import in the blank specular itself if you want no shine to come through! i don’t create my speculars the way this tutorial does, but it works all the same :)
*texture location templatei would definitely recommend getting comfy with uv_0 mapping as a beginner! it just moves around textures really so you wouldn’t mess up morphs/weights :) the template also helps you understand why some cc conflicts with each other! because they’re placed in the same area, the game reads both textures for both items together

the reason i suggested getting comfy with uv_0 mapping is because i haven’t exactly used a uv_0 tutorial myself, but rather understood how it worked and just went from there :) it’s kinda tedious but honestly the simplest part of the whole hair making process imo

A/N: heyo! so i haven’t written fanfic in FOREVER, and i never have on tumblr. so please be patient with me (haha). this is gonna be a series, basically everything that i want (dreamed?) about that happens in season 2 of outerbanks. i hope you enjoy!
chapter summary: Nikki Reddy is new to Outer Banks High School, aka ‘Kook Academy.’ After befriending Topper, Kelce, and Scarlet and getting a crash course on OBX culture, she meets the school outcast, Kiara Carrera

CHAPTER 1: Shades of Cool
I honestly had no idea what was going through my brother’s head when he decided to say, “Fuck it, let’s move to the Outer Banks.” In the middle of the school year. In the winter!
Like, he could’ve at LEAST waited ‘til the summer or spring. But nope, we’re going to the Graveyard of the Atlantic in fucking January.
JANUARY.
I can’t even wear cute sandals or shorts.
I sighed deeply and turned into the parking lot of Outer Banks High School, or as some kid I heard called it, Kook Academy. I have no idea what that was supposed to mean because no one at the school seemed crazy. But then again, this was my third day here. For all I know, these kids are batshit crazy.
I parked her white Lamborghini Aventador that I had gotten for my sixteenth birthday (just Sweet Sixteen things) and grabbed my pink Kanken backpack and flung it over my shoulder, brushing her shoulder lengthed hair out of my way. Stupid hair always getting in the way of everything. While I walked into the building, I pulled her schedule out of the pocket of the bag, not remembering where my AP US History class was.
“Nikki! Hi!” I heard a girl’s voice call out. Turning around, I was met with the energetic, and for a lack of a better word, preppy girl who was assigned to show me around the school two days ago. Scarlet, I remembered. The girl whose name matched her hair. Next to her, the tall, HOT, tan blonde friend wearing khakis and a sweater, and the other boy, also tall, equally hot, dark-skinned friend. Topper and Kelce, was it? I couldn’t remember. Or was it Topher, like Christopher? I knew a guy who went by Topher instead of Chris. He was a weird guy.
“Hey! Scarlet, right? And...Topper and Kelce?” I gave them a sheepish grin. “Sorry, I suck with names.”
“No, it’s all good, broski,” Topper smiled. “And you got them right if that makes it better.”
I sighed with relief. “Oh, good.”
“I LOVE your dress,” Scarlet cooed. I did too. A yellow plaid cami dress over a thin, white turtleneck sweater, complete with white converse and a simple silver necklace with an ‘Om’ symbol.
“Aw, thank you! I love your outfit, too! I could never rock a green tube top and jeans, you’re BLESSED.”
“We should start walking to class, guys,” Kelce interjected, “Otherwise we’re going to be late, and Miss Newbie here doesn’t need that on her third day of school.” Topper rolled his eyes and laughed.
“Facts, love. Let’s get a move on,”
As we turned to walk to class, we passed by this girl whose rather dull aura caught my attention. I only saw part of her face when we walked by her, but she had sunken eyes as if she hadn’t had a good night’s sleep in who knows how long. Her frizzy brown hair was spilling out of the hood of her black sweatshirt, and her hands were stuffed in the pockets of her black sweatpants.
Honestly? I thought she looked like shit. But not in an insulting way, in an “Are you ok? Do you need a hug?” kind of way.
“Hey, Top,” I turned next to him to asked, “Who’s the girl in all black that looks like she’s gonna pass out?”
The three OBX OGs spun their heads around to catch a glimpse of who I was talking about, before letting out a laugh at her question. “Ah, that’s Kiara. She’s a freak.” Top responded, chuckling.
I smiled sarcastically, a little mad that they outright insulted someone like that, but couldn’t show it because, well, I had no other friends. “True, but uh, how so?”
“She’s friends with Pogues, that’s how.”
“...Pogues?”
“The poor kids on the island, from The Cut. They’re all freaks and whores, they run around, stealing stuff, trying to shoot people.” Scarlet chirped up, emphasizing the different words. I nodded slowly.
“Yeah! This one Pogue, John B, like, he stole my girlfriend, uh sorry, EX-girlfriend from me, and his buddy JJ tried to shoot me in the head!” Topper exclaimed. Nikki’s eyes went wide.
“Wait...hold up, wait, he- WHAT? WHY did he try to shoot you?”
“I got into a fight with John B.”
“OK BUT THAT DOESN’T MEAN HE’S GONNA- WHAT?”
“OK OK, I may have stuck his head underwater for a bit. I wasn’t gonna KILL him, I was just messing around, you know?” Topper looked at Kelce and Scarlet, who agreed with him, “Gotta show those dirty Pogues their place.”
I laughed dryly. What the flying fuck?
We stepped inside the classroom and took our seats, with me right behind Scarlet, and Topper and Kelce on either side of her.
Scarlett spun around. “Bro, our teacher isn’t even here!” She rolled her eyes and pulled out her Puff Bar from her bar and took a hit. She looked over at me and held it out for me. I shook my head no and turned to Topper. “Wait, Topper, that ex-girlfriend. Does she go here?”
Kelce and Scarlet immediately looked over at Topper, who looked like I just ran over his cat.
“Oh I’m sorry,” I immediately apologized. “I shouldn’t have asked about-”
“No, no, it’s ok,” Top said awkwardly and coughed. He turned to face me with a sad smile. “Uh, remember how I mentioned she’d left me for some Pogue?”
“John something, yea?”
“Well, he killed her and himself, about six months ago.”
My jaw dropped. “What the fuck?! How are you so casual about- Shit I’m so sorry.”
“Yeah, he shot the last sheriff, Sheriff Peterkins, who by all accounts was actually a sweetheart. Then he proceeds to convince Sarah, or maybe he blackmailed her, I don’t know, into riding his boat into a tropical depression. We found the wreckage of the boat a couple weeks later, but...their bodies were never found...”
“Holy fucking shit.”
“Yeah... That girl, Kiara, she was best friends with both John B and Sarah. John B was, by all accounts, trash, but he was still her friend, I guess.”
I nodded slowly, trying to process all the information Topper had just dumped onto me.
Despite my extremely wealthy upbringing, I was raised to not be classist. Or at least, I hope that’s how I turned out; Scarlet, Topper, and Kelce also don’t seem like the most honest people. But these...Pogues that they were talking about...don’t seem like the sweet people.
But something about that girl’s eyes...they seemed so sad. You don’t feel for someone like that unless they’re a good person. Right?

Our teacher was droning off about...gosh who even fucking knows, I stopped paying attention the second he walked in.
I was on autopilot mode, taking down notes but not, like, actually paying attention. Instead, my mind was on these really cute boots I saw while online window shopping yesterday. I had bookmarked the link. Maybe I’d buy those?
“Nikhita!” My teacher called out. Hearing my first name, I snapped back to reality.
“Hi!” I smiled back. The class chuckled a bit.
Mr. Obi, a Nigerian man with the biggest glasses I’ve ever seen, rolled his eyes. “Hello. Did you hear what I said?”
“Not at all, sir, not at all.”
Topper and Scarlet were losing their minds; the former had to put his head down on his desk because he was laughing so hard.
He sighed and shoved his glasses up his nose. They slid down again. “I asked you what was the impact of the election of 1860?”
Shit shit shit shit shit
“Uh...wait, we want to war? Yea, that, like, started the Civil War.” I said, thankful I knew the answer. Mr. Obi was unimpressed.
“Mhm. Anyway, so...” and he continued to drone off.
Topper turned to me, smiling, and we both laughed.
As the lesson went on, I kept glancing at the clock. Ok, 45 minutes left, which means we’re halfway through class.
Mr. Obi kept going on and on about the Civil War, until, 15 minutes later, a little alarm went off on his phone. He turned and pressed the ‘Stop’ button.
“Right on time. Ok, so, I shortened today’s lesson because I wanted to talk about your project. Nikhita, you got here two days ago, the first day back from winter break, so you have no idea what I’m talking about, and I’m sure most of your classmates have forgotten. So I’ll refresh your memories: the second semester of U.S History is not going to the usual. You’re going to have a semester-long project that can be about anything. Literally anything, so long as it has something to do with either world history or current events. Yes, I know this is a United States history class, but we expanded this project to make it more interesting for you guys..”
Mr. Obi stopped for a second, looking at all of us. I nodded, partially because I felt bad because everyone was just giving him black stares, and because I found this project interesting.
“Now, in the past years, I left my classes to choose their partners or groups. But before the break, I’m sure you all remember the catastrophe that was your mini-project, yes?”
The class mumbled something incoherent, except for the boys in the back of the class who started cheering, which made our teacher smile.
“Well, because of that, I’ve decided to choose your partners for you. Well, more like the Pyramid of Doom.”
The Pyramid of Doom. This mini pyramid statue that has a little opening on the top, with all of our names in them.
Mr. Obi opened the Pyramid and began. I stayed quiet, listening to see who I was going to be paired with. Hopefully one of my three friends, or maybe one of the boys in the back. They’re cute.
When my name was called, I leaned forward to pay attention. The intensity, the suspense. Who was gonna be my partner?
Mr. Obi stuck his hand in the Pyramid and pulled out the next piece of paper. “Kiara Carrera.”
My eyes went wide.

“So, you excited to be partners with the freak for class,” Topper asked, taking a bite of his pasta. I laughed sarcastically.
Outer Banks High School has an A/B schedule, which means third block is two hours instead of 90 minutes, and everyone has a different lunch at a different time, depending on their class. On A days, I have lunch with Topper and some other kids. On B days, I’m by myself.
Today’s an A day.
“It’ll be fine. She doesn’t seem that bad.” I turned to my left to face him, popping a grape into my mouth. Yum. I love grapes.
“Yea, just wait ‘til you get to know her,” this boy across from us said. “She’s so weird. She hates being a Kook. Like, she never goes golfing.”
“Or shopping!” One girl piped up. “She just likes to sit at the beach and surf, and smoke weed and stuff.”
“Well, that sounds fun,” I shrugged. “I mean, don’t get me wrong, I love going to country clubs, and shopping, and going out to get breakfast, but I love chillin’ at the beach. Maybe she just has different interests?”
“Ok, that’s fine,” Topper stated, “but she’s friends with Pogues. And not just any Pogues - John B Routledge, JJ Maybank, and Pope Heyward.”
“Ok, but like, one of them’s dead. Look, I’m all for holding people accountable for their actions, but...bro, stop tryna cancel a dead dude,” I laughed. Topper punched my arm, and I winced jokingly.
He wrapped an arm around my waist, and I blushed a bit. Topper’s cute, definitely, and I like the attention, but I knew what was going on. Sarah Cameron, the dead girl, was this school’s Queen, with Topper as King. He’s looking for a replacement, not an actual girlfriend.
But...I liked the attention. I put my head on his shoulder.
“Hey, so, my friend Rafe’s 20th birthday party is this Friday. He’s a family friend and I would love it if you’d join me at the party.”
I turned to look at him, debating whether or not I wanted to go to some rando’s birthday party. But Topper knows him, and it seems like everyone else does, too.
“Sure,” I smiled. “Why not.

[ day 2: last christmas i gave you my heart ]
The Party congregates in the Wheeler basement as if it’s any other day in their cumulative years of friendship. It’s not any other day though, so Mike sits on the couch with his head in his hands, elbows imprinting bruises on his knees as the other boys and Max and El crowd around Will. He’s excited, the faint brush of Will’s fingers sizzling warmth in him as if he’s upstairs sitting by the fireplace, but there’s a selfish part within him that wishes everyone would get out and leave him alone with Will.
They didn’t have much time to discuss whatever transpired between them in the market, and while Mike did learn that Joyce and his mom had indeed planned for them to be stuck in the store together to greet each other again, he was still a bit unnerved by the entire situation. Now that everyone else knew Will was here, the secret was no longer kept and he didn’t have the headspace to think about how to even ask Will about what happened. He always had too much on his mind when the Party gathers together—grouping together always means something entertaining would happen with them all—and now that he’s in the same room as El, he has to try his best to stem any awkwardness or tension that permeates between the two of them.
Mike’s never dealt with the aftermath of breakup like this—with confusion, distance, and inaction. He let their distance take over and bleed into his inaction, and he let confusion fester until it boiled over into awkward acceptance. El doesn’t treat him much differently, though every so often she’ll send him a wordless glance with a furrowed brow and the slightest frown anyone could muster on their thin, pressed lips. Mike has always been the most oblivious when it comes to social interactions, Dustin makes that clear almost every day, but he’s sure not even the master between them can decipher what El means with her looks.
A tiny sigh slips from his lips as he resettles himself in seat with a scowl. Lucas and Max are chatting between themselves as they walk upstairs, crankily wooden steps creaking with their subconsciously synchronized steps. Mike watches them lazily before realizing there are eyes on him, so he turns around and finds himself locking eyes with Dustin. Dustin, who wriggles his eyebrows before climbing to his feet with an over-exaggerated sigh.
“I’ll go help Lucas and Max, maybe say hi to Nancy if she’s hanging around,” he unnecessarily announces with a grin. “Yell if you need me!”
And he’s gone. Mike’s mouth twists in a grimace, his height-stressed back protesting when he slouches in his seat. Will pokes at his new D&D dice, black and speckled red yet matte and glossed like dragon scales. The numbers on each side are bright white, shiny with lack of use unlike the smudged and fading digits on the ones he had put in the donation box all those months ago. Mike traces the numeral 14 with his eyes. He follows the lines of Will’s fingers and feels his breath hitch when Will’s gentle tracing pauses just a moment as if he knows Mike is watching him. Maybe he does, but Mike isn’t going to interrupt the moment any further by glancing up. He’s also worried if he looks up, then he’ll know El knows he’s watching Will and the implications found there aren’t anything he wants to bother straining his brain over.
“Will, do you want to help the others, too?”
Mike pulls his gaze up at that. El is playing with Will’s decagonal d10, fat and slippery between her thin, calloused fingers. Will stiffens, eyes darting up to Mike on the couch before he shrugs. “I think the three of them can handle themselves, don’t you agree, Mike?”
“Sure,” he replies stiltedly, not quite sure why El wants Will out the room.
She raises her eyebrows, still staring at the die in her hands, and curls her hand in a fist. She shakes her fist to roll the die and then smiles with a shake of her head when it delivers her a patient 7, her shoulder length hair flopping across her face in a childish manner. Despite that, the action makes her look older and far more serious. “I’ll go then.” El looks up at Mike with a tight smile. “We can talk later, Mike.”
“Talk about?” he questions, deliberately obtuse and chilly. El frowns and it melts a bit of the fear taking store in his heart.
Will grabs the die and stuffs it into a velvet bag where he had stored the others. “It’s fine. I’ll go if you need to talk.” His voice thickens with unspoken emotion. “Yesterday, Mike said he wanted to catch up with you later and now is later.”
El laughs lightly. “Don’t worry, Will. I think you two have something you need to talk about.”
“We don’t have anything we need to talk about, El,” lies Mike as if he hadn’t been brooding on the couch thinking about exactly that.
“Then what you want to talk about.” She walks to the staircase, almost floating with each step, and Mike’s reminded of why he liked her so much when they first met. Strong, powerful, protective, caring, everything he could have wanted. And he didn’t want it anymore. Maybe never did but that’s a thought for another day.
Silence permeates the air until Will shuffles on the floor. He’s dressed in jeans that flare just a bit at the ankle and a brown and white sweater that brings out the lighter brown in his much shortened hair and the hazel in his typically bright eyes. The yellow collar of his undershirt is popped up, covering his neck in an unconscious habit. There’s no cold wind or winter breeze down here in the basement but the holiday season brings back torrid memories, let alone the events of the summer, that leave Will hyper aware of the shivers and stings running down the back of his neck. Mike wants to pull his collar down if only to help emit comfort. Will is always safe in the Wheeler basement—always safe if Mike’s here at his side.
He doesn’t touch Will’s collar, but he does climb off the couch and settle in next to the other boy. Mike faces the staircase as a lookout, his left shoulder brushing against Will’s own left shoulder as Will faces toward the game shelf. He notes that his mom put fake snow on the railing as fairy lights curl around the pillars of the stairs. Will’s shoulders tense for a moment before he calms and leans in toward Mike. Their hands situate themselves side by side, pinkies barely brushing as if a repeat of their meeting yesterday.
“Do you remember last year,” starts Will in a voice far too gentle for the upcoming conversation. Mike nods, knows Will can feel it even if he can’t see it. “Our moms stuffing us in suits and taking photos for the ball.”
“The pictures on the mantle won’t let me forget it.”
Will laughs, each second as unique as the snowflakes flittering into piles outside. He settles into a huff and his pinky lightly brushes Mike’s. “You looked good that night.”
Mike’s throat tightens. Is it appropriate to tell a friend he also looked good? Is he allowed to acknowledge how he felt that day, how his heart clenched when Will went off with that girl and Mike realized what he wanted isn’t something he could have? Isn’t something he can let himself want? “You too.” he replies hoarsely in hopes that he sounds neutral enough. “We all looked good that night.”
“Yeah. Minus Dustin’s hair.” Mike lets out a few chuckles at that and feels Will’s hand eventually fully overlap his own. “Mike, I...I don’t know how to say this.”
Mike turns his head to burrow his nose in Will’s soft hair. His lips barely move as he speaks. “You don’t have to say anything.”
“But I need to.” Will pulls away and turns to fully face Mike. His cheeks are flushed, a frown drapes over his lips, and the sudden desire to kiss off that frown guts Mike until the open wound in his stomach bubbles over into his hands in piles of pure affection. The brunette raises his right hand to brush Mike’s curling bangs from his forehead. “You’ve hurt me a lot, you know.”
Mike stiffens. “I know.”
“No, you don’t.” Will sighs and pulls away. “Last Christmas, after Snowball, even after I saw you and El kissing,” his voice cracks on that word, stalactite icicles shattering against the floor as they fall from the ceiling of a dark, damp cave, “I thought we were still, I don’t know...the friends that we became after all that mess.”
The friends that we became. As in, something different that before. Mike clenches his jaw. “You were dying and I couldn’t have that—I couldn’t lose you.”
“I know.”
“And I couldn’t lose El, either.”
“I know.”
“You can’t be mad at me for that.”
“I’m not.” Will sighs and leans his head back against Mike’s shoulder. “I was mad at myself for thinking and wishing and foolishly giving you more than I should.”
Mike’s eyes dart toward the decorated staircase. He can feel Will’s hot breath against his sensitive neck. “Like what?”
“You know what; don’t make me spit out such a cheesy line, Wheeler.”
A grin curls on Mike’s lips and he looks back a little to make eye contact. “You’ve gotten very introspective, Byers.”
“That kinda happens after your best friend spits certain words at you that make you reanalyze your entire life.” Will turns his head and breaks their locked gaze. “But back to Christmas last year. Insert the cheesy line; I gave you my heart, alright? Silly me thinking it would be fine if I did, thought you would care about something like that.”
“Will,”
“Don’t. I don’t wanna hear it.” His voice is winded but strong. “If we’re going to be the friends we became, then let me say my part. I’m tired of crying over this.”
“Will.” Mike says more firmly, twisting his hips to face Will head-on. This talk deserves more than Mike’s half-assed glances at the staircase as he tries to avoid full immersion in the conversation. “I’m sorry.”
“Yeah, I know.” green hazel eyes looked down at the rug furnished floor. “We do stupid shit and say stupid things, but you and me...” He glances up. “We can’t be stupid about this. You haven’t...you don’t...”
“When we thought you died, Troy came for me. Told me you were better dead, probably killed by other people like...” Mike clears his throat. “His words weren’t about me but he still...he still targeted them toward me. Like everyone could see what was up between us before I could.”
“Well, you’re a bit on the slow side when it comes to things like this,” huffs Will with a sardonic smile. “But this year...this year I don’t wanna leave Hawkins being as miserable as I left the first time.”
“This year to keep you from tears, you’ll give your heart to someone special?”
Will pinches Mike’s side and he loudly yelps, scrambling from Will’s side even though he starts laughing at his own joke. “You’re so annoying, Mike, oh my god; I’m having a serious conversation here! You can’t just go around inserting sad Christmas song lyrics everywhere.”
Mike grins widely and flops onto his back with a happy sigh. “Am I someone special to you?”
“Always.” The unadulterated honesty in Will’s voice takes Mike aback. He turns his head to face Will, looking up at the boy whose cheeks are flushed with equal parts natural warmth and soft embarrassment. “So, how am I leaving Hawkins?”
Mike turns onto his stomach and rests his head in his hands, elbows pressed into the hardened floor beneath him. He thinks about his upcoming chat with El, thinks about how his heart dropped to his feet when he hugged his mom the day the Byers moved away and realized how much he missed Will already. A smile smoothly skates itself onto his lips, sharp-lined and eager as his heart jumps into an axel and lands perfectly.
“I think you already know the answer to that one.”

(fair warning; thought this would be a short one & then somehow got carried away 🤷🏻♀️)
Couple main things learned from the Kondo subplot- 1. Nick claims he doesn’t have a lot of stuff, a tiny not even shoebox fits the things that don’t “bring him joy.” Soooo the jar is definitely bigger than that box, so it brings him joy *happy tears* AND as we see later in the ep...so does Bishop’s OK State sweatshirt 😭😭 and then 2. Bishop feels the need to get rid of a looooot & Nick is almost proud? Not even that surprised? But we’ll get into this in a second 😉
We were ROBBED of the scene of Nick wearing Ellie’s sweatshirt because Jack clearly saw it and said “we are all wondering if it’s more” so multiple people (I’m betting including Ellie because she was not shocked about Nick wearing it) saw it- WHY DIDN’T WE. I will not get over the fact that Nick took it, put it on Mr. I Wear Cashmere Sweaters, and kept it because it smells like her. Bishop & her scent on her clothes brings him 🎶jooooy 🎶
Why is them looking at each other through the nutshell so damn cute?? Like they didn’t have to gaze at each other inquisitively while bending over- but they did. It’s not like either was really looking at the contents of the nutshell, more so just each other 😩
Now on to this new Ellie stuff. The past few episodes have certainly hinted at some development in terms of anger/rage and technical skills, which we got nice clarification of at the end with that text from Odette. Clearly the training is not a new thing- Odette had placed the ball in Ellie’s court (and so did Ziva when she left saying, “Odette will be ready when you are”) aka, Ellie reached out to her a while back and is now meeting regularly with her. My best guess is after the hit&run- when she told McGee she was going to the office and then later said she went home...definitely sounds like she went to Odette’s. Imagine feeling helpless after your best friend and boyfriend you keeping denying is in a coma—the logical brain of yours knows you can’t kill him, hell you already went through every possible scenario and imagined every detail, but you know you can’t. But now suddenly your walls have come crashing down that you thought safeguarded your heart from feeling things & that passionate rage is threatening to overrule your logical side, so what do you do? Channel your rage into training yourself to being an even better agent, an even better fighter, better equipped to “save” Nick next time. This side training has given us some hot/badass AF moments like that swift kick-trip move that had me straight up screeching at my TV. If oooooonly Nick had been there to see that move, we ALL know he’d have been a hot mess trying to keep it in his pants over in the corner 🥵😂. Our boy would’ve loved to see it and then been like- wait, hold up. I didn’t teach you that, so who the hell did?? I can see Nick finding out about this training going down very interestingly. One of two ways- him being proud that she’s working on her fighting/technical skills and becoming more badass & independent OR (the more likely because boy does not trust Odette & I don’t totally blame him- I truly think that stems from worry for Ellie’s safety when it comes to a mentorship blooming there) Nick is pissed because that’s how he shows his worry for her and tries to shut her out again. Only time will tell…
Also! We’ve gotten this Ellie that wants to throw everything away- out with the old, in with the new kind of deal. And I went on about this in an ask here, but I think it stands true even after rewatching. Ellie is done being *just* the logistics analyst. She associates her previous way of life with a few major things- getting cheated on & divorced, losing two people that were extremely close to her yet despite doing her best to exact revenge on those responsible, she still likely felt like she could’ve done more- could’ve saved them if she knew more, had better skills. So along with all her past, recent triggers like Ziva’s return & departure, Nick’s near-death experience, hearing Art & Annie’s heart-breaking story, I think have pushed Ellie not only to train, but to rid herself of a lot of her past. “Simplify her life” and “evolve” to in her own way start over. Erasing bad memories and fighting to make sure the future holds good, safe memories. As I said in the ask, controlling what she can control (training with Odette & getting rid of old things that signify an “old” Ellie) when the world around her has been changing rapidly is her best way of coping. This time, when she starts “new” Ellie, it will be on her terms- the way she wants it to be.
I’m extremely excited for where this is taking her character development and hopefully progress with Nick. Here’s to hoping they truly did know about the shortened season in enough advance that we get a semi-decent (read: ELLICK FREAKING KISS) for the new 17x20 finale.
Side note: Jimmy & McGee fighting over a freaking box and then Jimmy running away with it was pure gooooold.
I probably could’ve deep-dove into the last scenes with Gibbs & Ellie even more- and I’m happy to, but I’m rushing to finish this while the baby is still napping 🙃 so just send me an ask if you want me to expand on proud dad!Gibbs & evolving!Ellie 😉
