Legacies: The Little Spin-Off That Wouldn't
[Article translated into English below; access link above for original Portuguese version.]
With the first anniversary of Legacies' series finale long past us, it seems the appropriate time has finally come for us to reflect a bit on the various elements that led to the series not achieving the same kind of success as its predecessors. If you haven't seen this spin-off of The Vampire Diaries and The Originals in its entirety, don't worry; you didn't miss out on much. If, on the other hand, you followed the series and our reviews while it was on the air, you know we have a lot to discuss. So grab your favorite snacks, maybe a drink, and without further ado, let's get into it.
Created by Julie Plec, Legacies premiered in October 2018 on The CW. The spin-off provides a continuation to the story of Hope Mikaelson (played by Danielle Rose Russell since The Originals' fifth season), the descendant of some of the most powerful lineages of vampires, witches, and werewolves in the universe created by The Vampire Diaries. The teenager attends the Salvatore School for the Young and Gifted, a boarding school that aims to provide a safe haven for young supernatural beings, teaching them to control their powers and navigate the challenges of an adolescence which, albeit similar to that of ordinary mortals, isn't without its differences.
Despite a promising premise that had indeed worked in the past, Legacies came to an end after only four seasons, becoming one of the last series to succumb to the great purge of 2022. This cancellation was not received with much surprise by most of its audience, who, after a season marked by the departure of an original cast member, anticipated the inevitable. However, Legacies' failure can hardly be exclusively attributed to what happened during its final stretch, having the problems of "the little spin-off that wouldn't" started long before the final nail was ever hammered into its coffin.
The Forgotten Legacy
As a spin-off, Legacies inherited not only a well-established vast universe from its predecessors but also the obligation to find its own voice within it. It's quite the burden, but let's be honest: anyone who wanted to revisit The Vampire Diaries or The Originals could do so at any time, so something a little different wouldn't have been frowned upon. However, while there is much to be said about Legacies' distinct tone – and, believe me, we will get to it –, one of its cardinal sins will forever be the relationship of narrative neglect it maintained to the original series.
For a self-titled "legacies" show, Legacies always used its source material rather loosely, treating the inherited mythology and characters with carelessness. If its solid mythological foundation was disrespected and scattered with the introduction of the ill-fated "monster of the week," so were the very characters who were brought into this derivative of The Vampire Diaries. By name alone, Hope, Josie (Kaylee Bryant), and Lizzie (Jenny Boyd) are the "legacies" the series should've served. Instead, the baggage they had accumulated throughout both original series and its implications were often minimized to favor a more carefree plot, reducing the main trio to a mere shadow of what it could've been.
It's purely antithetical that Legacies sought to capitalize on the emotional connection its audience had to the source material all the while ignoring it entirely, but that didn't stop it from trying. This led to the existence of cameos and references that, in an attempt to evoke a nostalgic feeling, appeared at moments that contributed little to the plot. If, in The Originals, Hope's family moved heaven and earth for the young tribrid, in Legacies, they seemed too busy to provide any kind of support to the character until the ratings demanded it. As for Caroline's (Josie and Lizzie's mother, portrayed by Candice Accola) absence, although its reason was briefly explained at the beginning of the season, her mission hardly justified her being gone through circumstances that truly warranted her visit, with the character making her first and only appearance in Legacies' series finale.
Everything Everywhere All at Once
As previously mentioned, it's no secret that Legacies attempted to differentiate itself from the other series in its universe by adopting a lighter tone, opting for largely inconsequential narratives, caricatured villains, and a whole roster of stock characters. During its first season, this gave the show its own vibe, something akin to series like Legends of Tomorrow: a comic book series with a somewhat out-there premise, but still with rather captivating characters. However, Legacies quickly began to alternate between its decidedly camp style and a more serious tone in an attempt to rationalize its overall lack of seriousness. Thus, while one episode would present a more grounded reality, the next would return to its extravagant origins, giving rise to scenarios such as a musical, a dream world, and even an alternate universe.
This inconsistency in tone between episodes had a negative impact on the various storylines and how they were received. The constant change not only left the series' audience uncertain about what to expect from any given episode but also caused many important storylines to fall flat, their content and message often contrasting with the overall tone of that particular chapter.
It's fair to say Legacies tried to be a bit of everything: comedy, drama, fantasy, film noir, western – the list goes on. But thinking that this amalgamation of genres would result in a cohesive series was just another of the many mistakes made by the production. Continuing on this topic, whose inevitable conclusion is the maxim "less is more," Legacies was inconsistent even with its characters, introducing a too vast array of figures that, ultimately, it couldn't develop. Instead of focusing on the main and secondary characters it introduced during its first season, the series wasted its time not only with the monsters that appeared in each new episode, but also with so many figures whose impact on the narrative proved negligible. Eventually, this disregard was reflected in the loss of actors (such as Olivia Liang or Peyton Alex Smith) and characters of interest to the audience to more appealing projects.
A Wronged Protagonist
Werewolf, vampire, witch. These are the three factions from which Hope Mikaelson descends, making her the first tribrid in the The Vampire Diaries universe and one of the most powerful supernatural beings in its mythology. When dealing with characters as overpowered as Hope, there are several avenues writers can explore to lay the foundation for their conflict. They can create an even greater force to pose a challenge to the protagonist, or they can choose to present an internal struggle, for example. Ideally, good writers seek to develop both external and internal conflicts side by side. Legacies, however, relegated all of Hope's baggage to the background, neglecting all that made the character great in favor of a supernatural bulldozer that had little use beyond dealing with whatever threat was present at the time.
The primary conflict for a character like Hope Mikaelson should always be internal – that's a fact. In this particular case, Legacies had no shortage of material to work with, to the extent that it would be possible to write an entire article about its protagonist alone. Identity crises due to her unique position in the supernatural world, expectations associated with her lineage, the fear of becoming like her parents, ethical and moral issues related to her powers, the fear of losing those around her... These are just some of the many viable options the series had at its disposal but, unfortunately, chose not to explore.
Another criticism that must be leveled at how Legacies treated its protagonist related to the romantic relationship between the character and Landon Kirby (played by Aria Shaghasemi). For reasons that, in all honesty, I'm still unable to comprehend, higher powers believed it would be beneficial for the series to focus its narrative on Landon instead of Hope. Thus, storylines like that of Malivore – which initiated the external conflict of Legacies – gradually began to shift toward the character, placing Hope in a secondary position.
Finally, the very characterization of the protagonist suffered from the presence of Landon in her orbit. Any qualities or interests the young Mikaelson might've had faded over time. In a way (and taking the opportunity to make a Barbie reference), he was everything; she was just Hope.
The Risks Not Taken
The existence of a protagonist like Hope, all-powerful and always ready to save the day, was a factor that consistently contributed to the lack of perceived stakes throughout the series. Legacies had several other opportunities to raise the bar of its storyline but, like many other aspects discussed throughout this article, it chose the easiest path to tread. In general, whenever something a bit more daring happened, it quickly got resolved. This rule could be applied to almost everything within the show, from narrative threads that were concluded easily and inconsequentially to the deaths and subsequent resurrections of a handful of characters.
Combined with the fact that the narrative was almost circular in both its content and development, this regression in any kind of weighty decision resulted in a progressive loss of interest for an audience that, considering the unpredictability of The Vampire Diaries and The Originals, concluded that the spin-off was entirely too mild.
In summary, the series made promises it simply couldn't keep. Its initial marketing and the premise set forth during its first season had little to do with what the spin-off eventually became. Instead of a drama about the trials and tribulations of supernatural teenagers with a special focus on a trio of female lead characters, the audience ended up with a clash of titans between these same young adults and Greco-Roman gods. No, I don't think it's unreasonable to say that the production of Legacies lost the plot.
Even with months separating the end of the series and the date I finish writing this article, it's impossible not to feel a certain level of frustration with this spin-off. Legacies had everything it needed to become a successful series, including feedback from the audience and numerous opportunities over time to correct its many mistakes, but it never did. Whether out of pride or stubbornness, it continued to dig its own grave by reinforcing everything its fans and critics complained about. For this reason, Legacies will forever live in my memory not as "the little spin-off that could" (an allusion to the folktale The Little Engine That Could), but rather as "the little spin-off that wouldn't."
You can revisit Legacies on Max.

----------
Caroline winced as she touched the wound that was festering on her upper arm, as its toxin began to spread throughout her body.
"God damn it Elijah." Caroline cursed, wanting to press down on the wound to make the pain stop, but she knew it would only make it hurt more in the end.
Her brother came back to her with a glass of blood, which she accepted with a small smile that was quickly followed by a wince.
"That man sure has a habit of screwing you over doesn't he." Lucian tried to joke, but his smile quickly faded as he saw the blood next to nothing to help his sister. "Damn Elijah and his bitch. I'm going to cure you." He promised, taking his sister's hand in his.
Caroline shook her head, as she shifted so her injured limb wasn't touching the couch. "There's only one cure, and he won't help me. Not after what I said."
"That wasn't your fault and you know it." Her older brother reminded her. "Elijah made you do it."
"It's too late now. He has a child... he has her." Caroline said weakly.
Lucian frowned at the reminder of the hybrid that had bit his sister. "I'm going to get you that cure. You hear me. You're not dying." he said, not wavering.
His voice reminded her of when they were kids, and he'd steal extra food from the kitchen, even if being caught surely meant a fate worse than death. It reminded her of when she was a child, and all she could count on was Lucian. "I give you my word, sister."
----------
Lucian stormed onto the Mikaelson's property without a care, instantly gaining all the residents that were currantly at home's attention.
Kol, Freya, and Klaus came into the entrance.
The hybrid was surprised to see the first vampire he sired there, "Lucian." Klaus greeted. "Why don't you come in?"
But Castle's only family was at stake here, so he didn't have any time for Klaus' games, "Cut the act Klaus, your plan worked. I'll give you whatever you want. Just give me the bloody cure."
"What on earth are you bloody blabbering on about?" Klaus asked, confused.
Lucian's eyes widened as he realized Klaus truly had no idea what had happened. "What? Your precious baby mama didn't tell you? She didn't tell you who she bit?"
When the hybrid stayed silent, Lucian let out a chuckle, "Here's a hint for you. Tall, blond, gorgeous blue eyes, sun touched hair." Klaus' eyes widened, but the other vampire wasn't done. "Tongue sharper than a knife. You used to call her love, in fact I believe she was the first woman you called that."
"God dammit Hayley." Kol said, letting out a curse underneath her breath.
"Lead me to her." Klaus ordered without hesitation.
The other blond nodded, and flashes out of the room, the hybrid quickly following on his heels.
----------
"Are you here to kill me-" Caroline asked the man in the doorway, only to be interrupted by a wince of pain as the werewolf bite progressed, "-yourself?"
Klaus frowned, "Do you really think that low of me?"
Caroline remembered the night they parted ways, all too clearly.
How confused she felt, as her body betrayed her. Unable to control any of her actions.
How she begged, screamed, and cried. Trapped in her own mind, unable to do anything but watch as he listened to every world she didn't mean.
How she silently pleaded with him to understand what was happening, that she was begging for help.
But he didn't.
He couldn't see her pain.
He didn't know her at all.
He left...
"Yes." Kol's first sireling answered.
The look that appeared on Klaus face, the hurt, sadness, and betrayal, nearly made her want to take it back. But before she could, Klaus quikly masked it.
Klaus forced himself to steal his resolve.
He didn't know what he was hoping for.
She considered him a monster, incapable of love all those years ago. So why would he expect it to be any different now?
He was tempted to let her die here.
It would be so much easier.
No longer having to worry about the hold she'd have on his heart.
He was so very tempted to.
It's all he could think about on the way here.
But seeing her now.
He knew he couldn't let her die.
He couldn't let her light fade from this world.
He'd rather live with the fear, than live in a world without her.
He couldn't let her die.
As long as he lived, he'd keep her light alive, no matter what it cost.
Be it his own heart.
So Klaus didn't hesitate in using his fangs to slice open his wrist, and brought the bloody wrist up to the blond woman's mouth.
Once the cure worked its way through her system, it didn't take long for exhaustion to win over, and her eyes to close as she fell asleep.
Klaus leaned against her headboard, and let his fingers trail through her hair, like he'd longed to do for centuries.
He's thought about it.
Seeking her out.
It wasn't until three centuries after the incident that he began searching for her, wondering if she was even alive.
It was hilarious now, the notion.
Of course she'd survive.
She didn't just survive, she thrived as a vampire.
At first he'd just kept up with her through the gossip mill informing him of her activities. Then that game of telephone just wasn't cutting it, and he had men follow her from a distance.
This ensured that his influence was always there.
Ready to take care of any man, or woman, that was blessed with her attention for longer than his liking.
But soon, that wasn't enough.
So only a few centuries after that, he began actively seeking her out himself. Never getting too close to let her know, but each time, he was closer and closer.
He's visited her four times personally. Each time, a little closer than the last.
The last time he'd seen her, was after Mikael had burned half of New Orleans to the ground, and he believed his only son to be dead.
He got close enough to hear her laugh.
Her laugh, so light and bright, lightened his burden. As if he was taking his first breath in months.
Yet, the fear of experiencing the same rejection she pierced his heart with that night, kept him away.
----------
The first thing Klaus did when he entered the manor, was locate Elijah. He flashed to the courtyard, to see Hayley, Rebekah, and Freya there as well.
Without paying the women any mind, he greeted his brother with a right hook to the face, holding nothing back. The blow threw Elijah back several feet, knocking him to the ground.
"Niklaus!"
"Nik!"
"What the hell!" Hayley said, trying to get between them, only to be pushed back by Klaus.
"Oh, don't you worry. You're next." Klaus growled.
Elijah slowly stood up, worried that his brother had finally discovered what he had done all those years ago.
How his one act changed the course of his brother's life completely.
"What the hell were you thinking approaching Caroline, with Hayley! And then letting her bite her. Do you have any idea what could have happened if I hadn't gotten to her in time!" The hybrid shouted, the anger in his voice ringing clearly.
"It had to be done. The Castle's were getting too bold. Hope-"
But before Elijah could finish, Klaus had his hand wrapped around his throat. "Don't." He growled. "Don't you dare use my daughter's name to hurt the one woman I've ever cared about. I've dealt with you daggering me, betraying me, and choosing a bunch of mutts over your own family! All for Hope's protection. But if you so much as think about laying a finger on Caroline, and doing it in Hope's name, I swear to god you will never see Hope again. She may be your niece, but I'M her father." Klaus said, dropping Elijah.
"Niklaus!" Freya tried to chastise. "I get you care for her. But threatening to take Hope away and tear our family apart over-"
But the witch was cut off by her sister, "Enough Freya."
Rebekah could understand where her brother was coming from. She was the only one there through it all, after all. She'd seen her brother's draw countless pictures of Caroline.
How he was caught in an endless cycle of painting her, then burning every single one, once he realized they were only a cheap imitation of her.
How he'd longed to see her one more time, to find out why she rejected him, only for the fear of feeling the same heartache once again, keeping him away.
Klaus then turned to Hayley, the she-wolf taking a step back at the dangerous look in his eyes. "If you ever," He growled, the gold of his werewolf emerging in his eyes, "go near Caroline again. I will hunt down every single member of that family you long for, for so long. And I will kill each and every single one of them in front of you."
Hayley flinched at that, "Y-you can't."
"I can," Klaus corrected her, "and I will. I won't leave Hope without her mother, but I will leave you without your pack. Do you understand?"
When Hayley gave him a shaky nod, Klaus began to walk out of the room. Before he left, he stopped and glanced at his sisters.
"That goes for you as well. Touch her, and I can make Dahlia seem like a dream." Klaus warned Freya, before turning to Rebekah, who already had one of her hands up, and in front of her, stopping him.
"You don't have to worry about me. I got the message loud and clear." The youngest original said.
Klaus gave Rebekah a nod, before walking out of the room.
Leaving an exhausted Rebekah, a confused Freya, a scared Hayley, and a relieved Elijah behind.
----------
He didn't know if it was misfortune or luck, but it was only three days later that Klaus saw her again.
The hybrid was walking down the city streets, when he caught a glimpse of her inside a coffee shop, reading a book.
She hadn't noticed him yet.
He could walk away. Spare himself any heartache.
Yet, he found himself walking inside the shop. The wind chimes on top of the door, causing her to look up and catch his eyes.
They both froze, unsure of what to do.
Caroline was the first to shake it off, "Klaus," She began, unsure of what to say next.
Lucian had warned her to stay away from Klaus, saying that the serum wouldn't be ready until they got Hayley's venom.
Caroline remembered scoffing and saying she didn't want Hayley's venom anywhere near her body. Swearing that she'd snap the brunette in half the next time she saw her, so he better get the were-bitche's venom before she got inpatient.
Klaus took this as his que to take the seat across from her, "Wasn't expecting to see you here, love." He said, breaking out one of the oldest lines in history.
The woman raised an eyebrow, unimpressed, "Really? I could say the same. This doesn't exactly seem like your scene."
Klaus glanced around the shop. She was right. If it wasn't for her, he wouldn't have glanced twice at it, and would have just walked right by. Coffee shops, small local events, even farmer's markets, have always been more of Caroline's thing.
She loved supporting local businesses, attending small gatherings, and connecting with the community.
Even after all these years, despite the fact both their hands had been soaked in blood, she clearly held onto her humanity.
"Well the shop artwork was quite inviting." Klaus tried to defend himself.
Caroline laughed, and she glanced at one of the paintings, that was just three lines, painting on a canvas. "You hate this style. You once said that making people pay for splashing paint on a sheet without any emotion was rubbish." She reminded him. "Marcus Rodigo ring a bell?"
Klaus did remember the man. He had the nerve to color in some space and demand 2.5 million for it. Klaus had beheaded him and used it to add some actual artwork onto the canvas.
"I'm surprised you know about that, love." Klaus commented, pleased that she had made an effort to keep a track of his movements, just as he did with hers.
Caroline bit her lip, realizing her slip up. "Kol talks." She said, defending herself. But what she did keep to herself was that she also had the painting that was created by Marcus Rodigo blood, and it hung in one of the mansions she had in Paris. In her defense, it was a gift from Kol, and her mother taught her manners, it was rude to turn a gift away.
"Ah, my brother is always such a chatty cat." Klaus nodded.
"Well what do you expect when you dagger him for decades on end?" Caroline demanded. She had meant for it to come out light, but the anger she had felt every time she heard her friend was daggered, and she wouldn't be seeing him for an undisclosed period of time, made itself known.
Klaus winced at her tone. It was to be expected. Out of all his sireling's, Kol had always been the closest to Caroline. It was reassuring to know that when Kol was with Caroline, he'd always protect her, but jealousy had reared its ugly head more than once, resulting in Kol's unnecessary daggering.
They sat in silence for a bit, before Caroline glanced down at the book she had stopped reading since the hybrid walked in, and put her bookmark in it, and put it down. She sat up straighter, "Why did you save me?" She asked.
He hated her.
She knew he hated her for what she, willingly - as far as he was aware - said to him that night.
He could have let her die days ago.
Yet he didn't.
"I'll always save you." Klaus found himself answering without thinking.
Caroline's eyes widened, not expecting that response.
She'd fantasized about it.
When she was alone, she'd let herself dream about how he'd one day discover that she was under compulsion, that she never meant what she said.
That he'd no longer hate her.
That they could have a future together after what Elijah had done. That they could be happy.
But then, she'd remember how he never questioned why she said those things. Did he not know her at all!
It's been a thousand years, and yet he still hadn't figured it out.
She never wanted to have to spell it out for him, because it would mean he truly didn't know her.
But would spelling it out for him really be that bad?
If there truly was a future for them, wouldn't it just save her the unnecessary heartache?
Caroline opened her mouth, trying to speak, but her breath caught in her throat, as her heart began to speed up.
No.
It wasn't a lie.
It was just easier to believe that she was waiting for him to figure it out.
But what if he didn't care that she was under compulsion that night? That just was forced to do it?
Or worse!
What if he had already figured it out? Then it would mean he knew her, but he truly didn't care.
Caroline closed her mouth, trying to calm herself.
She can't keep waiting forever.
She can't keep playing this same game forever.
She has to...
ShE HaS TO...
"Klaus, Listen." She said, steeling her will. "About that night, there is something that-", But before she could finish, Klaus flashed away.
Caroline sighed, her head falling back. She was finally ready, but it seems he still wasn't.
----------
"Presenting, Mr. Lucian Castle and Miss Caroline Castle." The man by the door boomed loudly as Lucian and his sister stepped into the room.
Klaus was instantly mesmerized by the blond woman, who delicately walked down the stairs, her hands wrapped around her brother's arm.
Her posture was straight, as she looked down at the party guests, her gaze not wavering away once as she stepped down the stairs with easy, elegant steps.
Her light blue dress fell over her curves delicately, and billowed by her ankles, giving her an angelic look. The crystals that covered her dress shone in the candle light of the chandelier, making her look almost ethereal. Well her diamond encrusted heels, combined with the marble flooring, made it seem as if she was standing on light. Her blond hair was left open behind her.
She looked... innocent.
Like an untainted, ray of pure sunshine.
But only a fool would miss the dangerous glint shining in her eyes.
Lucian may be the monster staring them in the face.
But she was the devil in disguise.
Lucian stopped at the bottom of the stairs, from the corner of his eye he glanced at his sister, who gave him a subtle nod.
The man smirked and began his speech, addressing their guests.
But Klaus didn't hear a single word that came out of his sireling's lips. He knew Lucian's mouth was moving, but all his senses were captivated by Caroline.
He couldn't look away from her. He had tried, and failed.
He couldn't hear anything but her steady heartbeat. It was music to his ears.
He could smell her scent. It hadn't changed a bit.
He wanted to feel her hair running through his fingers, like he did the night she was bitten.
He wanted to taste her lips, like he was freely able to a thousand years ago.
His wolf, was magnifying all those. His hybrid senses, all in overdrive, all focused on her.
Just her.
Lucian soon stopped speaking and stepped down and joined the guests, with Caroline separating from him.
To Klaus' joy, she walked towards him with a smile. But when she walked right past him, he realized she was walking towards Kol, her arms extended for a hug.
Kol laughed, letting the blond embrace him. "How long has it been?" He asked, pulling away.
"Far too long." Caroline said happily. "I haven't seen you since the 1700s."
"Ah, the 1700s, known as the Age of Enlightenment, but it was full of so many wars. The Prussia war, Great Northern War between the Russian and Swedish Empires, and my personal favorite the War of the Spanish Succession."
Caroline rolled her eyes, "All the wars were your favorite."
Kol looked offended, "Why wouldn't they be? All that bloodshed and dead bodies, you can go as wild as you want without anyone noticing."
Caroline sighed, "There are certainly benefits. Shame you were daggered during the French Revolution, you would have loved it. All that chaos."
Kol pouted, "Something I'll never forgive Nik for."
Klaus watched the two's exchange, having to push his wolf down, as it nearly howled with jealousy.
Kol was soon swept away by another party guest, leaving Caroline to walk around, making sure everything was going smoothly. Occasionally stopping to catch up with an old friend.
Klaus waited to catch her alone, the blond woman could see this, and refused to make it easy on him.
So when she finally gave him an opening, he took it without thinking.
"Care for a dance?" Klaus asked, offering her his hand.
Caroline raised an eyebrow from behind her champagne glass, "Why don't you ask Hayley?" She asked, trying to hide the hurt she felt, with anger. From the corner of her eye, she could see the brunette dancing with Elijah, her words ringing in Caroline's head like daggers.
But Klaus refused to let a drunken-one-night-stand, continue to stand in the way of his happiness, "I'm not with her." He told her bluntly. When Caroline didn't look convinced, he added, "She gave birth to my daughter, nothing more. Elijah's the one caught up in her web, not me."
Caroline let out a quiet hum underneath her breath, a small smile finally appearing on her lips as she set her champagne flute down on the tray of a passing waiter, and finally accepted Klaus hand. Letting him guide her to the dance floor.
Once they were in the center, he twirled her around, and pulled her close, as they stepped to the music.
"About Hayley-"
"Don't." Caroline cut him off, "There's nothing there to talk about."
"Exactly. There's nothing there." He said, debunking Hayley's lies, "There was never anything between Hayley and me."
"She's the mother of your child." Caroline reminded him.
"That doesn't hold a candle next to you." He told her softly, meaning every word.
Caroline stopped dancing, and looked up at him in disbelief. She glanced to the side and could see Elijah keeping an eye on them.
She couldn't say what she needed to say here.
"Come with me." She said, pulling him across the floor and out the dining room.
The older original saw this and was about to follow them, but Lucian quickly appeared in front of him. "Elijah," Klaus' first sireling greeted cheerfully, "let's have a chat."
----------
Caroline let him into a light blue sitting room, with a slightly darker blue couch, with white rectangle lines printed on it.
The woman took a seat, and Klaus was quick to sit down next to her, waiting for her to speak.
Caroline gently placed her hand on his wrist, making sure he wouldn't run away again when she started speaking. The hybrid tensed up, but didn't move her hand away.
"That night... I wasn't in control. Those words weren't my own." Caroline spoke, trying to keep her voice strong, but it was getting harder and harder to speak with each word.
She was unsure whether to continue or not, or if he would even believe her.
"What do you mean?" Klaus asked, confused, unsure if she was really trying to say what he thought she was trying to say.
"I was compelled."
With her three words, Klaus' whole world shattered.
She was compelled.
She didn't want to say those things that night.
She was forced.
Someone forced her to say those cruel things.
"So that night..."
"I wanted to run away with you." Caroline said, unable to contain her tears. "Believe me, I wanted to. But I-" her voice broke, as she began gasping, "I wanted to so badly. But the compulsion..."
When Klaus stayed silent, the women began to tear up even more. "It's the truth. Klaus, I swear it is. Please, believe me." She pleaded.
That snapped the hybrid out of his shock, and he quickly pulled her into his arms, any thought that this may be a trick, never even appearing in his mind.
"Who?" Klaus demanded. "Wanting to know who ruined their happiness." As he asked this, the dots quickly connected in his head.
Even if Lucian had compelled her beforehand, the compulsion would have broken with her turning, and he'd never hurt his sister like that.
Tristan and Aurora couldn't either.
She was like a sister to Rebekah and Kol. They'd have no reason to.
That only left...
"Elijah." Klaus concluded, looking at her for confirmation.
Her small nod was all he needed.
He wanted to storm out and find his brother, and dagger him on the spot. But he needed to know more, his brother would be daggered either way, but this conversation would just determine for how many millenia he would remain asleep.
"Why?" Klaus asked.
"He found out about your mother. He already suspected it. I didn't want to tell him but he-"
"Compelled you." Klaus said, disgusted with his brother's actions.
"He wanted to hurt you. He wanted to make you pay." Caroline said, her tears finally beginning to dry.
Klaus wiped the rest of her remaining tears away gently, "and he used you." He sighed sadly.
"Why didn't you ever come to me?" Klaus asked gently, not wanting to cause her any more emotional pain.
"Multiple reasons." Caroline admitted. "It had been a hundred years, when the compulsion finally broke. But I still remembered the look in your eyes clearly, the hurt, the pain." She said, never being able to forget the broken look on his face that night, or the fact that she was responsible. " That you wouldn't believe me. I thought you'd never forgive me."
"That you would hate me." She said, her eyes becoming watery again.
Klaus quickly pulled her even closer to his chest, "I could never hate you. Even when I wanted to, I couldn't ever stop loving you."
"Then, after centuries, when you didn't chase me. Never looked for answers. I guess I began to question if you ever loved me at all. I guess a small part of me wanted you to figure this out on your own. To prove that you really knew me. That you really loved me." She smiled, "But that was a ridiculous notion. I can't expect you to do everything. You were heartbroken too."
"I'm not without blame." Klaus said, "I should have looked deeper. I thought about that night many times, I've tried to block it out, but the words continuously appear in my nightmares. I haven't been able to look past them."
"And then you saved me from that bite, and in that coffee shop, I wanted to tell you so badly but I began to wonder if you knew all along, and just didn't care." Caroline said sadly.
"You were about to tell me that day." Klaus realized, "But I ran. Like a coward." He said, disgusted with himself.
Caroline turned her body around and cupped his face with both hands, "You are not a coward. We should have tried harder. Fought harder. But wanting to protect our hearts from the pain, doesn't make us cowards."
For the first time in centuries, Caroline finally felt free from the burden she had carried around for centuries, and the constant ache in Klaus' heart finally disappeared.
----------
Lucian was the one to fight the two. They were caught pressed to each other, Caroline's head resting on Klaus' chest, as he gently spooned her back.
"Well isn't this interesting?" Lucian smirked, his smile widening when his little sister raised her head to glare at him. "I take it the plan's changed?"
"It has." Caroline confirmed.
"Excellent, how will we be making Elijah pay?" The older Castle demanded.
"We?" Klaus raised an eyebrow, "Since when is it your right to punish my brother."
Lucian's smile fell off his face and his eyes narrowed, "Since your brother compelled me and my sister. I was the one who watched her suffer for centuries, not you."
"I suffered for centuries as a result of my brother's actions." Klaus reminded him.
"Enough!" Caroline said, moving away from Klaus so she could sit up properly. "He will be ours to make pay." She promised Klaus, before turning to her brother, "And you can help."
Lucian didn't look happy with the verdict, but didn't argue any further.
"And what about me?" A new voice spoke, entering the room.
Lucian turned around to see Kol standing at the entrance of the room.
"What do you have against Elijah?" Klaus demanded, suspicious.
"Oh, you mean aside from the fact he stood by and let me get daggered for decades, all the well playing the noble brother?" Kol asked sarcastically. "I also can't let him remain unpunished for what he did to my dear older brother and darling Caroline."
Caroline's eyes narrowed, "How long have you been listening?"
"Oh, not at all. I didn't hear a thing." Kol said honestly, with over the top cheerfulness, "I've just known this fun little nugget for centuries."
"What?" Klaus, Caroline, and Lucian demanded at once.
"You knew!"
"How did you find it?"
"All these years and you didn't say anything?!"
Lucian, Caroline, and Klaus asked over each other.
"Now, now. Slow down ladies, despite how much you may wish it. There's only one of me." Kol joked, waving his hands up and down in a 'calm down' motion.
"Start talking Kol." Klaus growled.
"Well, it wasn't that hard to connect the dots. Caroline would never say anything like that of her own free will. She loved you."
"Loves." Caroline corrected.
Kol rolled his eyes, "Yes, yes, present tenses and all that, whatever. Back to my story, meaning I quickly realized that she'd have had to been compelled. I didn't do it, Rebekah had no motive, Finn was a bore even back then. And you were the innocent victim. That only left our dear older brother."
"Yet you kept quiet. Why?" The hybrid demanded.
"It wasn't my place-"
"B.S." Caroline cut him off.
Kol rolled his eyes, "Fine, watching you pin and suffer was a lot more hilarious." He confessed.
"You ruined centuries! For your, what, five minutes of fun?" Lucian asked, not understanding the logic.
"What are centuries to immortals?" Kol said, waving it off. "Plus, you could have coughed up the truth to Klaus just as easily as I could have. It was clearly obvious to everybody else that Caroline would never say those things out of her own free will, well Klaus would continue to pin after her till the end of time. Ironically, only these two masterminds" he said the last word sarcastically, "never realized that they were just as head-over-heels for each other as the day they first met." The youngest original brother reminded Lucian.
"I was listening to what my sister wanted." Lucian defended himself. "You were doing nothing of the sort. For someone who claims to be her best friend-"
"I am!"
"After today, highly debatable." Caroline said, with a harsh sardonic tone.
"Hey, no need to lie now darling." Kol said, offended. "Now, back to Elijah, because even after all this, we all know I'm not enemy number 1 right now."
"What's the plan?" Klaus asked, turning to the love of his immortal life.
Caroline smirked, "Let's put on a show."
----------
Ok, was Klaus a little too cheesy here? Maybe. But I personally liked it. Plus, he's an artist. Murderous-thousand-year-old hybrid or not, we all know how the artist types are.
I loved this idea of Caroline being Lucian's sister, Klaus' first love, and coming back in TO season 3 so much, I'm going to make this a full story. I couldn't use this exact idea in the story, so I decided to write it as a one shot to see how much I loved this idea, and I loved it A LOT.
VOTE:
For the full book of this idea, I'm going to do a vote. Remember the scene where the wolves are hunted by Lucian's men, I was thinking of just killing Hayley off there. So;
Option 1: Kill Hayley off in chapter one (maybe 2, depending on the episode and chapters lengths)
Option 2: Keep her around for some bashing
What do you guy's think?
As for this "Caroline Castle" work, I did have the whole "show" planned out. But it felt kind of anti-climactic. So I decided to leave it out. Maybe if I think of something better, I'll write a part two for this. But until then, I'm leaving the story off here.
There will also be a blooper for this coming soon. So keep an eye out for that.
Anyways,
KLAROLINE FOR LIFE BECAUSE I WILL GO DOWN WITH THIS SHIP!

Do you think J.Plec ever intended to write Defan differently? She tried to sell this powerful brotherbond and yet not even 1% of the said brotherly love was reciprocated by Damon.Defan was always written in favour of Damon and Delena. The only way they could have achieved any character growth was if Damon had stopped centering his actions & choices around Elena ,stopped being selfish, vindictive and actually taken some real responsibility.Instead we had Damon I-met-a-girl-&-she-made-good going around in circles and then maybe 2 seconds of epiphany where he would realise he should have been there for his brother and then next thing you know he'd be back at square one.As for Stefan instead of ever learning how to draw a healthy boundary, how to live in moderation(barring the beginning of s8,maybe),he centered his entire existence around -I need my brother-drama & the thought of disappointing/losing him quite literally multiplied his need for the said brother.Plec, in my honest opinion, knew if she focussed on this then she wouldn't have to give narrative importance to Bonnie and Caroline who not only deserved it but were quite capable of carrying the show especially after Nina left and yet they were shafted in the most non-consensual, gross storylines with irrelevant plot props, where zero effort was made, simply for plot convenience that did nothing to further either of their characters. How did we even think Belvafore could save this show? This was never gonna happen.Julie never let go of her obsession with that triangle of doom and catered to the whims and fancies of a giant part of the fandom who sincerely believed(probably still does) that being a a certain Petrova held precedence over everything and everyone.Having stepped away from all the fandom chaos and with the hyperfixation gone,it helps see things in perspective. No wonder Plec wrote the series finale like that.It was to reestablish that triangle that, in her mind, never really ended (don't honestly blame KW.He was nothing but consistent with his D-J/S-E fandom wank) which is precisely why there was so much disconnect between that one episode and the rest of the season. She couldn't care less about the story and was more into giving "closure" to that triangle that, in reality ,had perished in s3!!! *sigh* I could go on and on with my ranting.Anyway! Happy New Year :)
Happy New Year, anon!
I think Plec and the rest of the TVD writing staff wrote Defan exactly the way they wanted to write it. The story didn’t write itself. The writers did that. And they seemed to think that it worked and Defan arc wasn’t bad storytelling*.
I think that Defan was hit or miss. Defan worked when it explored Stefan and Damon supporting and resenting each other (e.g., the flashbacks). Defan didn’t work when it forced Stefan and/or Damon to regress because of the plot or Delena/love triangle (e.g., Damon's regression in season 4).
I 100% blame the TVD’s lame ending on Kevin Williamson because he stated that it was HIS IDEA. Julie Plec/TVD Writers originally wrote a different ending (Damon dies and Stefan lives), but KW changed it because he was salty that he wasn’t going to get his preferred Stelena ending.
*The only time I ever read Plec regretting a plotline or admitting that a certain character arc didn’t work was Enzo’s story in season 6.  It’s rare for TV writers to admit when their writing sucked or a storyline didn’t work so that tells you how awful Enzo's season 6 storyline was. Just saying.

Which ship do you think is bigger queerbait rn? Hosie or Supercorp?
Depends... if you go by current season I would say Supercorp, if you go in general I would say Hosie.
I am one of the few people that didn't consider Supercorp queerbait until late season 4. I have always shipped them and saw the chemistry but nothing in canon made me think they were writing towards Supercorp becoming canon at some point. In season 4b, that's when they started leaning A LOT more into queerbait territory with the focus they were giving on Kara and Lena's relationship and how they were framing all of it. That was also the time a bunch of media started waking up to Supercorp and supporting the ship, and there's a reason for that. The writing went from 'they are best friends' to 'this relationship is the most important relationship on the show outside of the Danvers Sisters'. The whole emotional plot and weight of the season (4b and 5) was reliant on Supercorp. That's when it became real queerbait for me.
While Hosie is the opposite. It started as queerbait from the beginning while in the current season they are trying to make us forget that Hope and Josie even know each other, with the exception of a few scenes.
Hosie is a ship that started with a complicated past to begin with, putting focus on their relationship right from the start. We saw their relationship develop and them getting closer and closer, only for there to be a crush confession. Outside of that, we had the actors and even Julie Plec pushing the idea that Hosie was a real possibility for the future. Season 1 was a perfect set up for what was gonna be epic queerbait in season 2. In season 2 we had confirmation that Hope was bi, they kept saying that Hope would be exploring her sexuality (still waiting on that one), we then had Hope confessing to also having had a crush on Josie in the past, we had the emotion turmoil of the season be about Hosie's relationship. The biggest fallout of everyone losing memory of Hope was what it did to Hosie's relationship, that was the slowburn of that particular plot. That's not even mentioning that Hope was the only one to bring real Josie out when she was still dark!Josie or the fact that she was the one to go into Josie's subconscious to save her. That episode was the finale of season 2 and in the finale of season 2 we had Hope being Josie's knight in shinning armor (quite literally because of the whole fairytale thing) AND we had Josie suggesting Hope to kiss her in order to wake her up with true love's kiss. That shit is as queerbait as it gets.
Then in season 3, it's like they didn't even know each other. Brett Matthews was like "we need to put a stop to this" and barely let them interact. There is no clearer message than that. They are trying to distance Hosie from people's minds which is useless because the queerbait already got to us in season 1 and 2. There is no turning back now.

The perseverance of the Bonkai fandom is impressive. Julie Plec told us not to support it, and other cast and crew members joined in on the bash Bonkai train as well. But that didn’t stop the fanfics the fan videos, the hilarious and sexy Bonjake edits, the Appreciation weeks, the other fun events, and trends. For a ship that had more disadvantages than other ships and a fandom that was bullied left and right that is pretty awesome! #Bonkamily ❤️
Strike us down and we shall become even more powerful than you can imagine!

Julie Plec needs to stop being fake woke. Her response to fans being upset that two main characters aren’t in focus on the poster of Legacies was. “I thought you’d be happy there’s Actors of Color in it”
So you give them a place on the poster but their screen time is still limited?
Or how about the fact that Matt Davis is a known racist, trump supporter who spews conspiracy theories, and bullies his own co-stars and fans who get upset with him for being racist, while half his fellow cast members are not white.
And Julie is here like “but the poster is diverse so shut up”

Yo, I was in an semi argument on reddit with a person who refuses to believe TVD was racist and compared them to Sharon Osborne on The Talk yesterday and the legit answered with this:
Do you not understand how dangerous that is? Calling people racists should only be done if they are truly racists and it's 100% proven by the people actually involved
I laughed so hard at this because they proved my point on top of saying they marched in BLM which I'm pretty sure even Sharon supported publicly but that don't mean shit. I just had to share this with you so we could laugh together. I've never had someone prove my point for me so fast lol
“Calling people racists should only be done if they are truly racists and it's 100% proven by the people actually involved...”
Tumblr media
So, by that logic, I could call Bonnie the n-word but that doesn’t mean I’m racist because I say “I’m not racist”?
Look, the fact is TVD was racist. And no matter how many idiotic tweets Julie deletes, unless she fully addresses what she and her crew (because I know it wasn’t just her) did (and it looks like they’re still doing it on Legacies) was wrong.. then, to me, this new woke Julie Plec is just bullshit. And I think a massive issue she has is that she doesn’t listen. All she says is “I don’t know what you’re talking about” re: the racism on her shows. And there’s TONS of tweets explaining what happened, but she never addresses those! Or she plays the victim!
Something Sheryl said in that segment, regarding Sharon’s personality (which... she clearly didn’t demonstrate in that segment) really stuck with me - “If I don’t know, I’m willing to learn. If it comes off a certain way, I stand corrected.” I think that’s the best way to respond. Listen, learn, show that they’ve learned. (And then of course there’s some/a lot that don’t want to listen, don’t want to learn, and clearly can’t show they’ve learned.. and I think Julie and Sharon are in that category.)
Look, I’m not going to act like I’m completely innocent of this. I’ve fucked up in the past (and almost put my foot in my mouth recently) but acting like Julie or Sharon - irrational, hysterical, acting like the victim (oh for fuck’s sake white women, can we PLEASE STOP DOING THIS?!) is not the way to respond.
But yeah, this was a good laugh because WOW she dug her own hole, haha!

Well I loved the character of Inadu, she's was awesome especially when she killed Elijah, Celeste would be smiling and also I don't like her origin, I felt like she was a victim of the Elders in her tribe and their magic poisoned her own and herself. They turned into her monsters but no one can see, and the werewolves, her curse was foolproof, but how would you change her origin and the werewolf curse?
Also your blog and my friend's led me to start writing a Fanfic that rewrites the entire series and has a witch as the main character instead of the Mikaelsons, and in it I killed Hayley before Klaus could get to her, so Hope doesn't exist in this book.
Sorry one more thing, Klaus and Hope should have been half native american, and Ansel should have been native as well, instead of Julie White washing them! Geez, also I understand why the Ancestors are so angry at them, the originals and the vampires probably killed so many of their own and Ancestors that were tired decided fuck it we are going to war and Esther shouldn't have been the leader, of them. A viking witch leading a spiritual group of mostly people of color?!
Also I love Davina, but to be honest, she should have her magic taken because if think about, Marcel executed witches, for the harvest, but what about the witches who had nothing to do that, they probably suffered for their elders wrongs.
Re: Inadu - I never actually got the point where she showed up. When I stopped watching The Originals, the Hollow was possessing the vampire chick that Marcel was with (but not really). After she stabbed Elijah with the rose thorn stake thingy, I felt that was a good place to leave, because I was just upset and aggravated by everything else (particularly the whole Freya and Keelin thing).
Re: Celeste - I liked Celeste... at first. I was totally down for her to take down the Mikaelsons after everything she went through because of them. The irony was that, in her attempts to take on the Mikaelsons, she became just like them - a parasite. She willingly stole the bodies of those around her and discarded them (via suicide) when they were all used up. She became the very thing she hated in her efforts. I don't think she was a "victim of the Elders", because even back when she was in her own body during the 1800s, she seemed to be in charge. I think she was twisted by her own darkness, long before she joined the Ancestors. She turned herself into a monster.
I'm not entirely sure what you mean by changing thr werewolf curse, because that was one of the few plot lines I thought was done well, involving Marcel and Celeste/Brynne and the Crescent Wolves. It was an event that all three factions had in common that really kickststarted the story when Klaus shows up in New Orleans.
Re: fanfic - I'm glad I could help inspire you. I've always felt that this show could have benefited from being and actual ensemble show about the factions in New Orleans, rather than about the Originals themselves. Here was a chance to explore the wider world of the supernatural, outside of what was going on in Mystic Falls, and instead, they made it about a family of white narcissistic vampires who always have to have their way. This show would have been so much cooler to just see the werewolves versus the witches versus the vampires, with the humans trying to keep it all quiet from the tourists. And one of the things I never liked about the Mikaelson involvement was the magical pregnancy, just watching Julie and friends completely rewrite their own rules to pull of some weird Twilight Renaissance.
Re: Klaus, Hope and Ansel - I was upset at first, when it was revealed that Ansel was just as lily white as Esther, because the whole origin story was that werewolves were native to the Americas, thus making them Native American. And that was before we found out the specifics of the Hollow and how she cursed them. But, in hindsight, I'm glad they didn't go this way, because then we would have had to suffer through more white people writing characters of color, and quite frankly, I'd had enough of that with Bonnie and Tyler.
The only thing that would have come out of them casting an actual POC as Klaus is that people would have widespread seen him as a villain (see the way they villainous Tyler and Marcel) and The Originals probably never would have happened because Julie Plec (and The CW) don't really do POC led shows.
Re: The Ancestors - I went into this show being 100% ready to support the witches in all aspects, especially coming from The Vampire Diaries, where witches were few and far between (before they were ultimately killed off once they did the spell they were brought in for). I harp in this show a lot, but I did appreciate how the longer I watched, the more I was drawn to specific characters and not just the factions. The Ancestors, and the witches overall, were revealed to be a bunch of religious zealots and that was totally unsexy. It only got worse when they consecrated Esther and she ended up taking them over, because she was revealed to be just as bad as her children.
Re: Davina - I will go to my grave defending Davina Claire! As I said above, I went into this show, I was totally Team Witch, but the further I got into the first season (and then the second), the more I realized that you couldn't be on just one side. There were times I sided with the witches, for sure, but the more time past, the less I liked them overall. I was here for Josephine as Regent, standing up to the Mikaelsons and demanding one of their witches (Kaleb) back, but these are also the same witches that wanted to sacrifice their children, that wanted to kill a newborn infant. The vampires were the same. I didn't like Marcel at first, but the longer we had with him the more I liked him. With Davina, yes, she turned against her coven, but that's because they tried to kill her.
I said it before and I'll say it again, but I don't care if the covens were 10000% sure that the Harvest was going to work, they shouldn't have done that to their own kids! Davina was a frightened sixteen-year-old girl being hunted by the very people that were supposed to protect her so they could slit her throat in a ritual. Of course she was against them! And yes, Marcel did take advantage of the situation, but his first priority was Davina's safety (and the other young witches) when he interrupted the Harvest. Marcel's harassment of the witches was a result of both the Harvest and the ongoing war between their factions, something Davina got caught up in and ended up suffering far more than many of these other characters.

When does the legacies finale air? Don’t give a shit about anything but Klaroline.
I know right 😭😭😭 It airs this Friday the 17th!
If I do watch (that's a big IF), then this will be the first episode of legacies I've ever watched... for obvious reasons. But I think I might just save some time and get the spoilers from tumblr and watch YouTube clips. But you can watch the full episode on the CW app.
My expectations are so low they're buried, actually, because I will not trust Julie plec with another shitty finale, but I am happy that JoMo and Candice are getting that paycheck!!
They'll probably break my heart and not even share the screen together, but jp has made sure we're all experienced with swallowing disappointment and dumbass storylines/ships that ruin the show(s), so it's not like it will be the first time 🙃🙃🥲
Maybe when she butchers this finale people will finally stop supporting her work, especially Hizzie shippers since it looks like that finally went down like the titanic.

My feelings about Hosie are actually growing. I was always for Hope and Josie, there’s something that has come to my notice. It is that, Hope and Josie’s dynamic has become so evident that a lot of people are either supporting it. The crushes have become important and the last three episodes provide so much material for Hosie to exist. I don’t know what’s going to happen or how is Hosie going to be on screen but I really want to see them together. It feels like they belong!
Also Julie Plec mentioned that there’s going to be a long awaited reunion kiss between a Legacies couple—I’m rooting for the ship that I can’t stop talking about. I hope it’s them, because we got the promise of Hosie in some way or the other, and I just want it to fall flat. Julie Plec I don’t know if you are seeing this, and even you are if that ship is Hosie, it’s been a long time now let them happen.

Today
"You have to be smart to play a dumb blonde over and over again and keep the audience's attention without extraordinary physical equipment."
~Judy Holliday
----------
In the Lockwood Cellar, Tyler, in wolf form, growled and snarled at Caroline and Matt, snapping his venomous fangs at them. Luckily for them, the iron gate separated them, as Caroline held the gates shut, as she was unable to reach the chains.
"Caroline, let me help!" Matt tried to reason with her.
"Get back," The eternal teenager ordered, "I got it!"
Just as she said that, Tyler lunged at the gate, fitting his snout through the doors, as he kept snapping and snarling.
Caroline flinched as the deadly drool landed on her skin, but kept holding the gate steady.
Matt aimed his rifle at Tyler, the wolf recognising the danger, backed up, before trying to lunge again.
"Caroline, the door's not going to hold." Matt warned her.
For once, Klaus found himself agreeing with the human. The cage was meant to keep the wolf in, not out, especially when it was unchained.
The hybrid had to glance at Caroline to remind himself, and push the worry down, that his baby vampire was ok. The useless pup didn't manage to get to her.
Matt took a few steps back in fear, but continued to hold his gun towards Tyler. "Come on!" He pleaded.
"Tyler, please!" Caroline begged, trying to get through to the man in the wolf, but the beast didn't let up on his relentless attacks.
Matt's survival instincts kicked in as he finally pulled the trigger, shooting Tyler in the shoulder. The wolf let out a yelp, but didn't go down, so Matt pulled the trigger again.
Caroline flinched away from the scene at the wolf's second yelp. "Matt! No, hey, no! It's Tyler!"
"It's trying to kill us!" Matt defended himself.
Matt raised his rifle again, but Caroline stopped him, "Wait!" she said, as she looked at the wolf who was laying down on the ground, panting in pain as his body struggled to heal itself after the two consecutive shots. "He's wounded." The vampire said, realizing the wolf wouldn't be able to move for a while.
"Caroline, stay back." Matt said, as he realized what she was about to do.
But it was too late as Caroline began to open the door. "We can go around him."
Katherine let out a whistle, impressed. "You can be quite the little daredevil when you want to be, huh sunshine."
"It was actually quite smart." Sage noted. "That would be the best time to move. He's wounded, so you'll have a higher chance of escaping without giving him an opening to attack. He'd be too slow. Pretty smart." She complimented the blond. "But 'we'? I would leave the human behind."
"I wouldn't, "Caroline glared at the red head. "Ever!"
Sage raised an eyebrow, the girl definitely had fire, she thought, her lips curving upward into a small smirk.
Finn glanced at the women he loved, it was rare for Sage to take a liking to someone, but when she did, she always protected them. So far he'd only seen the blond as someone his younger brother was interested in, an interesting feat, but nothing he'd give attention to. But it seems he'd need to re-evaluate the young vampire.
Sage wasn't the only one smiling, Bonnie was as well, though the witches were a lot softer. Of course, how could she be so stupid. She was still the same Caroline. Being a vampire didn't change who you are, it only amplified them. And if there was one thing Caroline was, it was loyal. Even as a child, Caroline fiercely protected those she considered hers. Yet she turned her back on her, when her best friend needed her the most... the witch's smile fell, as guilt ate up at her.
Shelia smiled, pleased that this was going the way she intended. She wasn't doing this to make her granddaughter feel bad. Bonnie was meant to take a second look at her actions, and realize her faults, so she could become aware of them, and fix them. She had been making rash decisions without knowing the full story, well it was time for them all to learn the whole story.
"Are you nuts?" Matt asked, aiming his weapon again.
"You're not going to shoot him again, okay?" Caroline said, offering her hand. "Okay. Matt, take my hand." She said, when Matt hesitated.
Matt glanced at it, but didn't accept, so Caroline opened the door and walked out, Matt followed behind her, with the gun still aimed at Tyler.
Klaus' shoulders tensed as Caroline walked out, and he glanced at her.
This time, Caroline caught him from the corner of her eye. She moved her head slightly to face him, and mouthed, 'I'm alright.'
He felt himself relax, and the tension leave his body with her two simple words. That was Caroline, brave, even in the face of danger.
"I got it." Matt said.
Caroline glanced behind at him, "Matt, take my hand." She told him, firmer this time.
The human finally complied and placed the rifle over his shoulder as he took Caroline's hand and she flashed the two of them out of the cellar.
----------
Back at Alaric's residence, Damon and Katherine were at Alaric's wet bar, observing the werewolf bite on his arm.
"So that's what a werewolf bite looks like." Katherine said, fascinated as she stood over him.
"Yep." Damon said.
"It's not that bad." Katherine noted.
"It gets worse." Caroline winced, remembering her own experience.
Kol smirked, "Yeah, not exactly your best wooing tactic, was it big brother".
Klaus opened his mouth, but Caroline beat him to it, "Saying that, 'saving me was always part of the plan', doesn't fix it."
"But my blood did." Klaus replied, flashing her a boyish smile, his dimples fully visible. Caroline let out a huff, and turned back to the screen.
Elijah watched the exchange in shock, when was the last time his brother let someone cut him off, let alone speak to him like that. His brother was almost... playful. But that wasn't possible, was it?
"Will be." Damon said, as he remembered Rose. He stood up and rolled down his sleeves. The fabric irritated the wound, but at least he wouldn't have to look at it this way.
"So that's it? You're just...going to die?" Katherine asked.
"Well, that depends. You know anything about a cure?" Damon asked, not having any expectations.
Katherine shakes her head.
Damon sighed, if even Katherine, a woman who had connections everywhere didn't know about a cure, then there just wasn't going to be one.
"Well, if you blood idiots put your connected single brain cell to the use, instead of just focusing on the bloody doppelganger, you could do the math and realize that a cure would exist before the night is up." Kol snarked.
"How much do you want to bet their precious doppelganger wouldn't suddenly mind dying like the martyr she is." Rebekah added.
"I-I", Elena spoke up, but she didn't have anything to say.
Rebekah smirked, leave it to Eleana Gilbert to give her the perfect opportunity, "What, you can't tell Stefan that you would die for Damon, but wouldn't live for him?" She taunted.
Elena stayed quiet, and Stefan knew that what Rebekah said was completely true.
Elena would die for Damon,
But she wouldn't live for him.
Damon grabbed his jacket off the couch, and slid it on. "Me, either."
"145 years and no last good-bye?" Katherine pouted playfully.
Damon glared at her, "You don't get a good-bye." She clearly didn't know a cure, and she was his best bet, so the last thing he wanted was to spend any more time than necessary with her.
Damon turns away from her. But Katherine wasn't done yet, so she flashed in front of him, and placed her hand on his chest to stop him. "No. Don't leave mad." Katherine pouts.
"You just can't leave him alone can you!" Elena said sharply.
Katherine shrugged, "I couldn't leave until Klaus got back or it would have been worse. I was bored and he was my only entertainment."
Damon looked down, of course that's what it was. Katherine only ever saw him as a toy to keep her boredom away.
Elena saw Damon's reaction, and jealousy smacked her across the face, silencing her.
Damon couldn't still have feelings for Katherine could he?!
He loved her... or did he love Katherine's face on her?
"Y-you-" Elena tried to get her words out.
Katherine smirked, and turned to Elijah, completely ignoring Elena, "Did you really have to spend the next days chasing Klaus and cleaning up his messes, when you could have been chasing me?" She pouted. The best reaction you can give someone who wants one, is no reaction at all. Elena wasn't even worth her time.
Elijah gave her a soft smile, as he saw Katherine's playfulness shine through.
"Us ending up on good terms isn't exactly on my bucket list, Katherine." Damon rolled his eyes.
Damon tried to walk out, but Katherine stopped him again.
"Klaus made me call Jenna to lure her out. There was nothing that I could do. I didn't have a choice." She defended herself.
"That's why I gave you the vervain. So you had a choice." Damon reminded her.
"It was her or me. I chose her." Katherine answers.
"I helped you. You owed me." Damon said, starting to get angry. "Now when Klaus dies, you're going to walk out of here without a scratch and Elena's aunt dies. Somehow you're the only one that wins. How'd that happen?"
Klaus rolled his eyes, "Again, the worst you could do is desicate me. If there was another way to kill us than a White Oak Stake, don't you think our countless enemies, who are much older than you children, would have found it by now?" Klaus reminded them.
"Katherine didn't say anything!" Elena shouted.
Katherine raised an eyebrow, "Was I supposed to? What happened to you wasn't my concern. Fight or Flight. I choose flight, I live. You chose to fight, you died. See who really won her? Spoiler alert, it's me."
Elena growled, and launched at Katherine, but the vampire effortlessly snapped the human's neck.
"Elena!" Caroline shouted, rushing to her friend's side, Bonnie following behind her.
"She's not breathing..." Bonnie said, her voice quite.
Katherine rolled her eyes, "Of course she isn't, I snapped her neck."
"You bitch!" Damon growled, rushing at Katherine, but he was stopped by Elijah's hand at his throat.
"Let's all act like civilized people, shall we." Elijah said to the group, his hand tightening around Damon's throat.
"Come on, it was just getting good." Kol complained.
Damon still wasn't done, "W-ell... y-you te-ll you're bi-", before Damon could finish, Elijah ripped out his heart, faster than even the vampire eyes could comprehend.
Elijah dropped Damon's body onto the floor next to Elena's. "Anyone else?" He asked, before sitting down.
"I didn't let love get in the way." Katherine said.
"Enjoy an eternity alone, Katherine." Damon growled, walking past Katherine.
"What are you going to do?" Katherine asked from behind him.
Damon turned around to look at Katherine, "I'm going to offer myself as a replacement to Klaus." He said, determined to get his way.
"He won't take you." She informed him, "He saw your bite, he said that your blood is impure. I'm sorry, Damon. But Jenna's dead, there's nothing you can do about it."
Rebekah let out a laugh. "Of Course he wouldn't. What would be the fun in that? The werewolf bite is a much cruler, slower way to die, then just getting your heart ripped out."
Klaus looked sick, "She's right, I waited a thousand years to break that curse, I wasn't going to risk it with a tainted vampire."
"Did you just say I was right?" Katherine asked, her smile sharp like a cat who got the canary.
Klaus glared at her, "Don't let it get to your head."
"Oh I wouldn't dare." Katherine said in a saccharine tone, as she placed a hand on her heart.
----------
Elena woke up with a gasp, just as Damon shot up.
Stefan squeezed his brother's shoulders, but Damon shrugged it off as he went to Elena's side.
"Are you alright?", "Do you feel ok?", Carolien and Bonnie asked at the same time, still by Elena's side..
Elena glared at Katherine, "I died."
The vampire smirked, "You woke up just in time for the sacrifice."
Elena and Jenna were sitting on the ground. Jenna was clutching her head, as all her new senses overwhelmed her.
Jenna ran her fingers through her hair and pressed them on her skull, trying to put pressure on the pain that was running through her head, "Oh, my head. What's wrong with me?"
"Do you remember what happened?" Elena asked, moving closer to Jenna.
"You called me. You were so scared." Jenna told her story, regret and panic filling her voice. "Oh, ah, I should have realized that it wasn't you. The second I walked out of the house, someone grabbed me. A vampire."
"Klaus." Elena concluded without a thought, "It was Klaus."
"You killed my aunt twice?" Elena said, glaring at the hybrid.
Klaus rolled his eyes, "Actually, I wasn't the one who snapped her neck. I had much more pressing matters to see to on the most important night of my life, than just purley making your life miserable."
At Elena's open mouth, Kol let out a chuckle, "Obviously my brothers primping 'on the most important night of his life', was much more important than turning your aunt."
Klaus growled, "Actually, I was ensuring everything was in place."
"So just barking orders at our minions like a bridezilla?" Rebekah asked in a saccharine tone, her lips curled upwards in a 'sweet', smile.
Klaus turned his glare form his brother, to his sister, but couldn't say anything, as she wasn't exactly wrong.
"He made me drink his blood. And I don't..." She tried to recall what happened next, but nothing came up. "I don't remember anything after that." She looked around at her surroundings, anxiously. She could pick up on every single sound around them. The flames cackling, the crickets chirping in the woods, the wind whistling through the trees. It was overwhelming her. "Where are we? What happened?"
Elena grabbed one of Jenna's hands in her own, "We're at the quarry. He brought us here."
"Why don't I remember anything?" Jenna asked, confused.
"Jenna, do you remember...When I told you how someone becomes a vampire?" Elena asks.
"Yeah," Jenna answers, remembering what Alaric had told her, "if you die with vampire blood in your system, it's..." The woman's eyes widen as she realizes what happened to her, "Oh, god. He killed me."
"Jenna, listen to me. Listen to me; everything's going to be okay. I'm going to get you out of here." Elena says, trying to calm her aunt down.
"I'm a vampire?" Jenna shouts, her emotions heightened like they never were before.
"And I bet you're hungry." Greta says, as she approaches them. Elena and Jenna look up at her. Elena see's a sharp rock on the ground and lunges for it, only for the witch to fling her away with a wave of her hand. With another motion, she creates a circle of fire around Elena.
Elena stands up and tries to move, only for the flames to rise higher, trapping her in the circle.
"Don't bother trying to get through. I spelled the circle. You're trapped. No matter what you do." Greta said with a smirk.
"Greta...Please, just- just let her go." Elena begged.
Greta ignored her as she picked up the sharp piece of rock, and slicked her wrist with it. Jenna stared at the blood that dripped from the witch's wound hungrily.
"Klaus chose her." The witch finally spoke, as she lowered her wrist to Jenna's mouth.
"No." Elena shouted at her.
"Drink it." Greta ordered.
"Jenna, don't!" Elena continued to shout.
"Please, you can't stop a newly turned vampire." Rebekah rolled her eyes.
"What do you know?" Elena demanded. "You drank from your own mother."
Rebekah's spine stiffend, she looked as if she was about to lunge for the doppelganger's neck. But she was stopped by Caroline.
"It's not like that at all. You can't stop, even if you want to. You can smell the blood, hear as the heart pumps blood throughout you with every beat." The baby vampire said, recalling her first feed clearly. "Your bodies just finished healing, and the cost of bringing you back from the dead isn't cheap. It's exhausting. Every single cell in your body's completely starving. It's almost like the universe wants a life for a life. A life to bring you back, and then more and more for the time you spend on this earth. So it's actually surprising that five newly turned vampires, who were all feeding on the same woman, didn't kill her. I mean I was the only one who fed on that nurse and I nearly killed her."
Everyone stared at the baby vampire in surprise, but Elijah caught onto the last part quickly. "Nearly?"
"I nearly killed her, but I was able to compel her to bandage up her wound and forget it ever happened. Not that it really mattered, I ended up killing a man at the carnival the same night." Caroline said, looking down as she remembered.
Katherine looked at her, surprised. "I left you in a hospital-"
"YOU DID WHAT!" Klaus roared, within an instant he was out of his chair and slamming Katherine into the opposite wall by her throat.
"Brother-" Elijah tried to reason with him, but Klaus wasn't having it.
"She was newly turned, and in transition, and Katherine just left her in a hospital, full of blood. With surgerious, accidents, and open wounds. There would have been a massacre if it was anyone other than Caroline."
"What?" Bonnie asked, surprised.
"Well simply put, not all baby vampire's are control freaks." Kol swung an arm around Bonnie's shoulder. "They aren't exactly born like Rippers, as Stefan was. But well... let's just say baby vampire's aren't known for their control."
Bonnie pushed Kol away, as guilt ate away at her.
"Older vampire's are expected to mentor their sirelings, a general rule for the vampire's to follow as a result of the deal the Originals have with the governments." Sage added.
"Wait, what deal?" Damon asked, but everybody ignored him, which made him seeth in anger.
"Do you have any idea what you would have done to her if it had succeeded?" Klaus growled at Katherine.
Klaus was about to rip out Katherine's heart, but he was pushed away by Caroline, who flashed between Klaus and Katherine. "Enough! She did what she did. I did what I did. We can't change that. But what happend, happened for the best."
"You become a vampire!" Elena protested.
"Yeah, well I'm better off for it." Caroline said without doubt. "She helped me."
Damon, not liking what would come up if Caroline kept going, but a hand on Elena's, "Elena, let it go." He said, giving her hand a squeeze. Elena got the message, and pressed her lips together, though she continued to glare at Caroline as if she couldn't believe what she was seeing.
Klaus sighed, and sat back down. Now, as long as it was about her transition, Caroline would continue to protect Katherine, and that clearly wasn't going to change.
Katherine smirked at Caroline, but the blond shook her head, "This was a one time deal."
"Keep telling yourself that sunshine."
"I can't." Jenna shook her head.
Elena turned to Greta, "Let her go. Hey!"
Jenna, no longer able to stare at the bloody wrist in her face without eating, could no longer resist and let her virgin fangs sink into the witch's wrist.
"No!" Elena screamed as Jenna began drinking, "No."
But Jenna closed her eyes, unable to take anything else in, as the warm blood flowed down her throat and satisfied the monster clawing at her chest.
As soon as Jenna had drunk enough to finish her transition, Greta pulled her wrist out of Jenna's grip, when Jenna tried to stay latched on, Greta pushed her away with a wave of magic.
"That's enough." The witch said, standing up.
"Jenna. It's going to be okay." Elena tried to reassure her aunt, but Greta created another circle of flames around Jenna with a flick, causing the newly turned vampire to flinch away from the flames, looking terrified.
"Look at me. Hey, look at me." Elena called until Jenna turned her head towards Elena, the doppelganger paused for a moment, seeing the blood drip down her aunt's chin. "It's gonna be okay. It's gonna be okay." She said to herself more than her aunt this time."
Jenna shook her head, her lips unable to form words, as the hunger creeped through her, and dark veins created a web around her eyes.
----------
In the Old Witch House, Jeremy and Bonnie were still trying to find a solution in the old grimoires.
"This is useless." Jeremy goraned. "All these grimoires. There has to be something in here to keep Elena from becoming a vampire."
"Well there were certainly spells in there, you just didn't know how to look." Kol said, confirming Jeremy's theory.
"What do you mean? We read through dozens of them, yet we barely managed to find anything other than potions, or talisman spells." Bonnie said, staring at the ex-witch, confused.
"Well you gotta know how to look for them. There's no way witches are just going to leave their heavy hitters out in the open." Kol explained. "Older generation of witches are supposed to teach the younger generation how to decode their grimoires. Their like key's only the witches of the line know, and thus, only those witches can read those spells and use them."
Shelia stared at her granddaughter, with regret in her eyes. She was a proud woman, and she didn't regret many things. But waiting so long until she began teaching Bonnie, was definitely a mistake. She was so afraid her granddaughter would follow in her mother's footsteps, that she failed to realize she was already pushing Bonnie into her mother's footsteps, by keeping a part of her hidden from her.
Bonnie's eyes widened, as she finally realized what that meant. The anger she had buried down for the Salvatours, and Elena's actions, began to rise, as she realized they hadn't just taken her grandmother away from her, but a part of her as well.
"And we'll keep looking." Bonnie insisted. "Until the last minute."
----------
Elijah, Alaric, and Stefan had just parked on the driveway, and were walking across the yard.
"The sacrifice is completed in stages as the full moon sets." The original informed the group. "First the werewolf is killed, then the vampire. Finally the doppelgänger. Once Elena dies, the curse will be broken. Klaus will become a hybrid."
"So when do we attack?" Alaric asks.
"Elena's death will activate his dormant werewolf side. He'll be vulnerable during the transformation. That's when Bonnie comes in." Elijah answered.
"Told you." Kol said in a sing-song voice. "Dear old Elijah needs the sacrifice to happen, how else is he supposed to turn the magic surrounding Klaus, on him, to dessicate him - well more like have Bonnie turn the magic on Klaus to make it easier to dessicate. Plus, let's not insult the intelligence of everybody in this room, except the human doppelganger and salvatores, we all know the only way to kill an original is white oak stake."
"It would have worked if Elijah hadn't turned on us!" Elena whined.
Kol sighed, "Please, Elijah was never on your side, even when he's angry, he is always on team always and forever." He then turned to his brother, "Nik, what did it feel like when Elijah stuck his hand in your chest."
Klaus raised an eyebrow, "Oh, you mean aside from the piercing pain in my chest, and the sting of betrayal?"
Rebekah rolled her eyes, "Please, we've been at the party for a thousand years, you're the one late to it."
The hybrid rolled his eyes, "I was growing weaker, and as if the blood to my body had been cut off."
"That proves my point." Kol smirked, when he saw the Mystic Fall's confused faces, he groaned. "Do I really need to spell it out for you? Fine. What was happening to Nik's body when Elijah was pulling out his heart was that he was basically cutting off circulation, making it harder for Nik's body to pump blood."
"So his body would need more energy and blood to function!" Caroline said, catching on.
"Five points to Hufflepuff." Kol nodded, "and with Bonnie cutting off Klaus connection, I'd even say she'd use the sacrifice magic to strain his body even more, the dessication would become even easier."
Everybody turned to Elijah, amazed. The man in the shit raised an elegant eyebrow, "This should come to no surprise. Niklaus wasn't the only one to study the sacrifice ritual for centuries."
"And you're sure Bonnie will survive this?" Stefan asked.
"If she can deliver him to the brink of death, I'll finish the job myself." Elijah answered.
"Liar!" Klaus, Rebekah, and Kol said in unison.
"You lied straight to their face." Rebekah said, impressed. Elijah left things out when working with others tons of times, but seeing him blatantly lie was quite rare.
"Not so noble are we now." Klaus smirked at his brother.
"Well I may not have planned to kill you, but I never planned for anyone in Mystic Falls to ever see you again." Elijah said, without a hint of remorse.
"Why does that sound so ominous?" Klaus asked his brother.
"Sounds to me like he planned to hide your body in a dark, musky dungeon." Kol answered.
"I would do no such thing." Elijah said, offended. "It would be next to the wine cellar."
"I at least had the decency to keep you guys above ground." Klaus glared at his brother.
"Above ground? You kept them in storage containers." Stefan reminded him.
Klaus glared at Stefan, but before he could say anything, Rebekah screeched, "WAIT! That was permanent! I thought it was temporary, no wonder my poor skin got so pale."
"Rebekah darling, in case you haven't figured it out in the last thousand years, you're a vampire!" Kol reminded his sister, only to get a vase thrown at his head.
Elijah sighed as he stared at the shattered antique, "We should have moved them before this began."
"I have a feeling this won't be the last." Klaus sighed.
Stefan's phone rang before the two men could ask Elijah any more questions.
"Damon." Stefan said, answering the call.
"You're not going to like what I'm about to say." Damon groaned
"Cut to the chase. Is the sacrifice happening or not?" Stefan asked.
"It's happening. I tried to stop it," Damon said, regretful, "but it got...complicated."
"We're sticking with the original plan." Stefan said, having no time to duel on what his brother meant. "We're meeting Bonnie right now."
"He's got Jenna, Stefan." The older vampire revealed.
"What?" Stefan asked, hoping he hadn't heard his brother right.
"He got Kath to lure her out of the house." Damon explained.
Stefan looked back at Alaric, getting worried.
"What is it?" The hunter asked, not liking the look on Stefan's face. "What's wrong?"
"He's going to use her as the vampire in the ritual."
"Oh, my god." Stefan said, eyes wide.
----------
Elena couldn't stop pacing back and forth in the circle of fire, well Jenna kneeled in hers, still weak from the transition.
"How are you feeling?" Elena asked.
"Her neck was snapped, she woke up in a sacrificial ritual in the middle of the woods, oh and she just transitioned into a vampire. What do you think?" Sage asked.
Rebekah rolled her eyes, "She clearly wasn't thinking. What she expected was for her aunt to move on, and reassure her that she's fine, even though it's her fault that Jenna was even dragged into this mess."
"It wasn't my fault!" Elena protested. "I didn't ask for this!"
"Didn't you?" Katherine asked. "Let's say this one wasn't your fault. The sacrifice may not have been your fault, but people do keep dying because of you. You got involved with the Salvatores, and then dragged your friends into it. Caroline, Bonnie, and even Matt wouldn't be in this world if it wasn't for you. And then, you keep picking fights with the Mikaelson's, where everyone but you, turns into a casualty."
"No I- they didn't!" Elena shook her head.
"My mother." Bonnie suddenly found herself blurting out. "My mother wouldn't have had to turn, if you didn't make that deal with Esther. We wouldn't have been involved, if you didn't go to that ball. Hell, my mother only got dragged back into this life, because of the coffins Stefan stole... for you."
"He didn't steal them for me!" Elena shouted, standing up.
This gained multiple reactions of disbelief from the group, even Stefan himself. Everybody knew, even with his humanity off, the reason Stefan hopped through all those hoops wasn't just revenge on Klaus, but to help Elena.
"I feel like myself..." Jenna said, trying to reassure her niece. :Only not. Everything is brighter. The fire's hotter. Part of me is terrified, but there's another part of me that doesn't want to feel anything."
"Vampires can turn off the part that's human." Elena informed her aunt. "That's the part that hurts."
"I'm gonna die, aren't I?" Jenna asked, her voice cracking as her eyes began to gloss over from unshed tears.
"No! Jenna, I'm not going to let that happen." Elena said, refusing to believe this was happening. "I don't care what I have to do."
In the distance, the sounds of twigs snapping and Jules groaning are heard by the two Gilberts. Jenna's head snaps towards the sound, as her new senses pick it up much more clearly.
"Who's that?" The vampire asks.
"That must be the werewolf." Elena concludes, seeing that was the only element missing from the ritual site.
Just as the doppelganger predicted, Greta came with Jules and pushed the werewolf down onto the ground, ignoring the way the woman clutched her stomach in pain.
"What's happening to me?" Jules asked, panicking.
"I cast a spell to slow down your transformation." The witch answered, uncornered. "Your insides are trying to tear themselves free."
"I had no idea spells like that existed, they clearly go against the natural order." Bonnie said, amazed.
"Well you can't call anything unnatural, because at this point, we have no idea what's truly natural. Witches themselves have been messing with the natural order since the dawn of time." Kol said.
"That makes no sense." Elena protested.
"Doesn't it?" Kol challenged. "Take vampires, we were unnatural when we began, but after a thousand years, we have made our place in this world. Our mother may have created monsters, but vampire's are the one's keeping overpopulation in check, and if our mothers spell had succeeded, then the world would have fallen into chaos. Overpopulation would have just been the beginning. Anyone wants to try and guess what else would have happened."
Katherine hummed, "Well for starters, the monsters the originals kept in check, would take over. And don't even get me started on the witches."
"Exactly. With the will of time, nature accepts everything, integrating yourself is easy, it just takes time. It's when you remove a piece of the puzzle, that the rest of the tower tumbles to the ground." Kol explained.
Caroline's eyes widened as she caught on, "It's the ecosystem we've been learning since we were five."
"Well vampire's a part of it as well, love. Just because you don't learn about us, does not change the fact that we're on the top of the food chain. Take us away, and the rest of the pyramid falls into chaos."
Greta moves away, flicking her wrist, a third ring of fire encircles Jules, trapping her just like the other two sacrifices.
“Greta, witches are supposed to maintain the balance in nature. It's your duty to them to keep this curse sealed.
"Oh yeah, because locking a part of a supernatural being, one that they were born with, is completely natural. It's not like you're trying to change a part of them that they were naturally born with." Klaus said sarcastically.
"My duty is to Klaus!" Greata said confidently. "The new order."
Just then Klaus arrived, pleased to see everything in place. "Glad to know I still have a dance partner." He turned to stare of the vampire, werewolf, and doppelganger, "Hello, my lovelies. Are we ready?"
----------
Matt and Caroline rushed into the Lockwood Mansion, the baby vampire slamming the door behind them and locking them.
"Come on. Get in here!" Caroline calls Matt over, as she leans against the door, finally feeling a sense of relief. Matt opened the curtains to get a look outside, "Do you see anything?" The girl asked.
"We're not safe here." Matt said, glancing out the window, before closing the curtains. "If that thing wants in, it's getting in." He says, opening the chamber of his rifle and reloading it.
"Well he's not wrong." Katherine snarked. "It's not like werewolves need permission before entering. Pretty sure that's us."
"You sure never had a problem entering. Guess that must be thanks to your bitch side." Elena glared at the immortal doppelganger.
Katherine pouted at Elena, "Aww, what's wrong? Jealous nobody ever invites you in?" She asked in a baby voice, "Shame it doesn't seem to stop you from barging in."
"How did you even know what I was?" Caroline asked, still confused on that part. "I compelled you to forget!"
"I was on vervain." Matt revealed. "I faked forgetting so I could spy on you. It was your mom's idea."
Matt walked out of the room, and Caroline, still in shock, followed after him.
"Wait, my mom knows?! Oh my God! You told her. Well, what'd she say?" Caroline asked, scared of what the answer may be.
Matt turned back around to look at Caroline, "Your mom hates vampires. She grew up hating vampires. She'll probably always hate vampires." He said, breaking the news to her.
"Isn't that a familiar feeling." Kol jokes, only to earn a glare from his brother.
The last thing Klaus needed, or wanted was Kol making the situation worse for Caroline. From what he'd seen, Caroline and her mother had gotten over their differences, the women being willing to invite him in to save her daughter's life. But that would do little to ease the hurt Caroline felt then.
But the baby vampire seemed to caught up in the memory of the conversation her and Matt had and all the emotions that rushed back with it, to really pay Kol any attention
"Well, what about you?" Caroline asked.
"What about me?" Matt repeated, trying to avoid the question.
But Caroline wasn't letting him off the hook. "Where does this leave us?"
"Stuck in this house. Trying not to get mauled to death by our friend." Matt said, not answering what she was really asking. He left the room, leaving a visibly distressed Caroline behind.
----------
There was a persistent knocking on the front door of the Salvator House, causing Damon to walk down the stairs, stumbling a bit as he tried to reach the front hall.
"Heard ya." The Salvatour groaned, as the knocking continued. Damon stabilized a bit as he approached the door, but quickly regained his balance. The vampire rolled up his sleeve to see that the werewolf bite had gotten worse.
Klaus smirks, "See, why would I give him the mercy of a quick and painless death, when he can suffer in agony for hours instead."
"That, and you're too stuck up to ever want to use a tainted vampire in your ritual." Kol reminded his brother.
The hybrid looked offended, "I waited-"
"A thousand years. Yes we know Nik. We've heard that over a thousand times-" The youngest original cut her brother off, only to be cut off by Kol.
"-each year-"
"-so yes. We know how you'd never take a risk. Can we go on now?" Rebekah asked.
Damon opened the front door to see John Gilbert standing in front of him. "Great." he groaned, not at all happy to see the other man, "I was just thinking about getting a bite to eat."
"Elena hasn't returned any of my calls for days." John says, getting straight to the point as he walks into the house, "I need to see her."
Damon shuts the front door and turns to look at him. "Well, you're a day late and a daughter short, John."
"What are you talking about?" John asks, not liking what the vampire was trying to say.
"Klaus has her. Sacrifice goes down tonight." Damon answered bluntly.
"How could you let that happen?" The Gilbert demanded. "You were supposed to keep her safe. Wasn't that the sum total of your plan? To keep her safe?"
"She is safe." Damon rolled his eyes, "I fed her my blood."
"You what?!" John asked, worried.
"When Klaus kills Elena in the sacrifice, she will come back to life." Damon said, already explaining what the other man knew was unavoidable. "Granted, as the thing you hate most in the world, but no one really cares what you think."
"Yeah, except for the little fact you're the only one who wanted her to come back as a vampire. Stefan, the Bennett Witch, Gilbert #2, even your precious doppelganger herself doesn't want to be like you." Rebekah said, more than happy to remind Damon of how he'd screwed up in the eyes of multiple people.
Damon then starts to walk into the parlor. John attempts to grab him, trying to stop him; but Damon is faster and spins John around, slamming him against a wall.
"You do not want to mess with me right now." The vampire warned him.
John straightened up, trying to look more intimidating, "You ruined her life. You know that, right?"
"I know, John." Damon idmited. "I took her choice, destroyed her future. Trust me, I get it. It actually gets worse."
"How could it possibly get any worse?" John wonderned, as he watched Damon walk away.

Jules, Elena, and Jenna were still contained in their rings of fire. The werewolf continues to moan in pain. Up on a nearby hill, Klaus retrieves the moonstone from his pocket.
"I've got the moonstone." He told the witch, "I spent 500 years looking for this. I hate to part with it." He said, reminding her not to screw up.
Greta took a look at the sky, "The moon has passed its apex. Remember everything you need to do?"
"I remember." Klaus answered.
Greta dropped the moonstone into a stone bowl filled with flames. Sparks began to fly as the moonstone was destroyed in exchange for the magic. The witch begins chanting a spell in Latin.
Klaus took that as his que to approach the rings of fire. Jules is still on the ground, moaning in pain, but looks up at Elena.
"Everything I did..." The woman groaned out, "I was just trying to help Tyler."
"Are you Jules?" Elena asked.
"I didn't want him to be alone!" Jules shouted as Klaus approached her.
"Shall we?" Klaus asked, looking down at the werewolf.
The ring of fire around Jules disperses. Her eyes turned yellow and she tried to use her werewolf speed to rush at Klaus.
Alas, Klaus was stronger and easily got the upper hand and pinned Jules to the ground, plunging his hand into her chest and ripping out her heart.
Jules took a final breath, her tears streaming down her face as she died.
Klaus breathed heavily as he held the bloody heart in his hand.
The remaining two women took in the sight, horrified.
Klaus couldn't help but think about what Jules had done to Caroline, and knew he should have prolonged the women's death.
Kol smirked, knowing exactly what his brother was thinking, "What? Wishing you'd dragged out her death?"
The hybrid rolled his eyes, "We all know that getting your heart ripped out is one of the quickest deaths. The only one that can beat it is a quick neck snap."
----------
Back in the Old Witch House, Jeremy is looking through a grimoire as Bonnie looks over his shoulder.
"Which one are you reading?" The witch asks.
"Emily Bennett's, there's a section on spells she did for my ancestor, Johnathan Gilbert." Jeremy answers.
"Yeah, I think she had a thing for him." Bonnie remembers.
Jeremy looked up at her, and she smiled at him. "There's something on a resuscitative spell she was working on."
"I saw that, too. She just didn't explain what it did, exactly." She says, already knowing it's a dead end.
"Well, maybe Johnathan wrote about it in his journals. You know, I can have Stefan bring them." Jeremy suggests, just as the basement door creaks open.
Bonnie hears the noise, "Someone's here."
Alaric walks down the stairs and into the basement.
"Hey, what are you doing here?" Jeremy asks.
"Elijah and Stefan are upstairs." Alaric says to Bonnie, "You mind if I have a second with Jeremy?"
"They do know their wasting time right. With all this trying to have seperate talks. Why spend 30 minutes repeating something, than another 30 trying to console someone who's gonna go into shock." Sage sighed.
Katherine shrugged, "Not like it's going to do them any good against Klaus."
"I'm alive here aren't I." Elena said, smirking.
"Yeah... and John and to die for that. I wonder... if they found the spell, but discovered that they'd need to kill someone else to save you, and Jeremy's the only human around for miles. What to you think Damon would do?" Katherine challenged.
Elena's smirk fell of her face, and she gulped, trying to find an answer. "H-he wouldn't do that."
"Whatever lets you sleep at night." Katherine smirked, taunting Elena.
"Sure, yeah. Of course." Bonnie says and gets up and leaves the basement.
"What's the matter?" Jeremy asks, getting worried at the look on Alaric's face.
"Jeremy..." Alaric began, not sure what to say, "Something's happened to Jenna."
----------
"Why did he take Jenna?" Bonnie asks, being caught up by the two vampires.
"A punishment for meddling." Elijah answers, knowing his brother.
"Klaus was going to use Tyler and Caroline. But Damon rescued them." Stefan adds.
"Yeah, because I decided to just leave the sacrifices in an easily accessible cellar with a single witch standing guard. Vampire's are easy, but I'm not dumb enough to leave my werewolf laying around." Klaus reminds the group.
"If you already had a vampire, why the hell did you turn Jenna?!" Elena demanded.
"You can thank love sick vampire number 2 for that." Klaus smirks at her.
"Then we need to go. Now. Before Jenna's been sacrificed. I can kill Klaus myself." Bonnie said.
"Bonnie...If you use that much power, you'll be dead." Stefan reminded her. "We've already been through this. It's not an option."
"Neither is letting Jenna die." Bonnie argued.
"Well, Stefan would agree with you." Elijah sighed.
Bonnie looks at them, confused. Stefan walks closer towards Bonnie, "We're going to offer another vampire. One that he'll want more. Me."
----------
Greta continues chanting the spell while Klaus holds Jules's heart over the ceremonial bowl, squeezing the blood into the flames.
"Does that mean it's working?" Klaus asks, watching the flames rise higher.
"It's working." The witch confirmed.
Over in the rings of fire, Elena watches Klaus and Greta in the distance. Jenna looks up at her, eyes glistening with tears.
"The day that the lawyers called to tell me that I was going to become your guardian, you know what my first thought was?" Jenna asks. The doppelganger looks down at her and shakes her head. "Isn't there someone else who can do this?" The strawberry blond reveals.
"Aww, was the poor little doppelganger not wanted for once." Rebekah says in a singsong voice.
"She didn't have to! Yet she did." Elena shouted at Rebekah.
"Yeah, because of guilt, sympathy, and maybe even pity." The original sister said, as if she was talking to a baby.
"Your just upset that somebody actually choose me." The doppelganger growled.
"Yeah, well now she's dead." Katherine reminds her copy.
Elena looked a her, dumbfounded, "How can you say that!"
"Because I can, and it's the truth." Katherine rolled her eyes.
"Jenna, there was no one else who could have gotten me and Jeremy through all of that." Elena says, trying to comfort her aunt.
Jenna shakes her head, "It's just the thought that I almost passed up taking care of you."
"But you didn't." Elena says, kneeling down. "You put your entire life on hold to help us."
"Look around, Elena. I failed you." Jenna says, blaming herself for this mess. If only she's kept a closer eye on her niece, none of this would have happened."
"No. You didn't. I failed you. I'm so sorry." Elena says, trying to reassure her aunt. "Listen. Being a vampire, it intensifies your guilt. But it also makes you stronger and faster. You can fight back. I'm gonna get through this. I'll be okay. I need you to believe that. Promise me, when you get the chance..." Elena places a finger to her lips and whispers the next word, "Run."
Jenna nodded, whispering, "Okay."
"He's a thousand year old vampire, what good did you think whispering would do?" Sage groaned. Not understanding how people can be do dumb. Jenna may have just found out, but Elena should have clearly known better.
----------
Matt peers out another window. "You don't think I killed him, do you?" He asked.
"No. No. It takes a lot more than wooden bullets to kill a werewolf. He's still out there somewhere." Caroline answered, from where she was sitting on the couch in the parlor. "Do you think my mom wants to kill me?"
Klaus glared at the boy on the screen, there was only one correct answer to the question, and if he answered wrong, he'd hunt him down and turn him, just so he could spend centuries torturing him.
"I don't think your mom knows what to do with you." Matt answered.
'Wrong answer.' Thought Klaus. 'He's dead.'
"Yeah, well, I don't really know what to do with me, either." Caroline says, trying to laugh it off, but her voice wavers as the water works threaten to overcome her.
Matt looks at her. Suddenly, Caroline becomes more alert as she hears a noise on the front porch.
"What is it?" He asks, as he begins to slowly creep closer towards the front door.
"Wait." Caroline says, as she hears the wine of the werewolf trying to be let in.
Matt raises his gun, but Caroline stops him, "Don't. Don't shoot."
Caroline rushes up the stairs. She rapidly searches through the bathroom cabinet, until she finds what she was looking for.
She then flashes to the kitchen, and comes back with a packet of raw bacon.
Matt watches, confused as she takes some strips, and hands the nearly empty pack back to him.
He watches, surprised as she opens the bottle of sleeping medication, and dumps several pills into her hand.
Matt stops her, "Woah, do you know what you're doing."
"No." Caroline answers honestly. "But it's better than shooting him."
Matt couldn't argue with that, so he stayed silent as she finished wrapping the pills in the bacon. She then quietly moved towards the window, not wanting to catch the wolf's attention quicker than needed.
She threw the bacon out the window, and quickly slammed it shut as the wolf lunged. His nose hit the clash, putting a crack in it. But luckily, the bacon distracted him from making another attempt.
Caroline bit her lip, watching nervously as the large creature devolvered the meat in a single bite. The pills stayed tightly encased in the meat, and went into him, along with it.
Now, all she could do was wait, and hope the bullets had tired his werewolf healing out enough, that the pills could work their magic.
Everyone in the room stared at the screen amazed.
Klaus was the first to shake off the shock, "You truly are something else, love." He said, completely in awe.
"That was quite the show sunshine." Katherine complimented.
"How'd you even know it would work?" Rebekah asked.
"I didn't." Caroline admitted, not used to the praise. "It was the only other option we had though."
"It's certainly smarter than trying to shoot at a werewolf with wooden bullets that would do nothing to him." Sage nodded, impressed. The baby vampire had definitely proved that she could think on her feet.
----------
Stefan was standing outside the Old Witch house, when Elijah approached him.
"Bonnie did the locator spell." The original informed him, "They're at Steven's Quarry."
"I'll head over there first and you'll follow with Bonnie when it's time." Stefan said, knowing what he'd have to do.
"Just as the moon hits its final phase." Elijah reminded him. "She's to stay hidden until then. He cannot know that she's alive."
Stefan nods and begins to walk away.
"You're very honorable." Elijah said from behind him.
Stefan turns back around, looks at Elijah, and walks back towards him. "Are you?" He asks, "Because this whole plan is, um, it's contingent upon your honor, Elijah."
Elijah paused, wondering if Stefan had realized his true intentions. But a glance into the younger vampire's eyes revealed that it was just paranoia. "I won't fail you."
"Klaus is your brother. I know I've wanted to kill my brother a thousand times. I've never been able to." Stefan said, speaking from personal experience.
Elijah paused, thinking of the best response to deal with Stefan's worries. "Well, Klaus was not my only brother. I had siblings; parents. I had a family. Over the centuries, Klaus hunted them down one by one and he took them from me. He scattered them across the seas where their bodies could not be found."
Kol rolled his eyes, "Really Elijah. You should know by now, with the right spell, you could have easily brought us back."
"Yes well spells like that, especially for three whole people, would take time. Time that Niklaus would spend getting to know the feeling of being put to rest, without his consent." Elijah replied.
Klaus glared at his brother, "I think it's time to sharpen those daggers."
Kol rolled his eyes, "You need a new threat Nik."
"Plus, with us in here, time won't move out their like Shelia so kindly explained. So go ahead, dagger me. I won't be missing out on anymore fashion weeks." Rebekah smiled. The cost of those daggers, was the time, and as long as they were in the witches spell buble, that cost would become null and void.
"You want revenge." Stefan realized.
"Sometimes there's honor in revenge, Stefan." Elijah admitted. He wouldn't kill his brother, but certainly was revenge. "I won't fail you."
"Please end this." Stefan pleaded one last time before leaving.
----------
In the house, John walks down into the basement, holding a cardboard box. Jeremy and Bonnie approach him as he puts the box down on a table.
"I brought the Gilbert journals. I think I know the spell you're talking about." He told the two.
"Where's Damon?" The witch asked.
"Upstairs. Alaric wanted to talk to him." The older man answered as they took the journals out of the box and began to flip through them.
----------
Upstairs Alaric has just explained to Damon that Stefan is willing to sacrifice himself.
"He did what?!" The older Salvatore shouted.
"He wasn't going to let Jenna die." Alaric reasoned. He didn't want Stefan to die, but he wanted Jenna alive more.
Damon grew frustrated at Alaric's response, "We have a witch. She kills Klaus. No one has to die!"
"But then Bonnie would die." Caroline said, frowning.
Rebekah rolled her eyes, "What do you expect? Salvatore elder, clearly doesn't care about anyone but his previous doppelganger."
"Except for Bonnie." Alaric reminded Damon.
"God, Stefan, damn it!" Damon cursed, punching a wall. Which resulted in his whole arm going into the wall.
Alaric watched his friend pull his arm out, "Hey, are you okay?"
"I'm fine." The vampire answered, beginning to calm down. "Well, that's my brother for you. Always cleaning up my messes." Damon exited the house as he said the last sentence. Alaric watched him leave, worried about what he'd do next.
----------
"Hello, Jenna." Klaus said, approaching the ring of fire containing the women.
Jenna and Elena stood up to look at Klaus.
"Let her go." Elena begged, "I understand that I have to die, but she doesn't!" Elena walked closer to the flames, causing them to flare up and forcing her retreat.
"Careful." Klaus wanted. The last thing he needed was the most important element for the sacrifice burning to death before he could kill her.
"Elena, don't." Jenna protested, trying to reason with the girl.
"No, Jenna! We can't leave Jeremy without a family." Elena reminded her aunt, before turning to Klaus, "I followed your rules; I did everything that you asked. I didn't run. Please."
"No. You just involved my brother, had a witch as backup, oh, and refused to real in your boyfriends." Klaus reminded the group.
"I couldn't control their actions!" Elena protested.
"Really?" Kol asked, raising an eyebrow. Everybody knew that Elena could make the brothers listen to her, but she just refused.
Caroline couldn't help but think, underneath the matyar and golden girl persona Elena always wore, she loved the idea of everybody wanting her. Fighting for her. Willing to do anything for her. So she never tried to stop it, because she didn't want it to stop.
Klaus was about to answer, before something on the top of the quarry caught his attention. "Well, well. I don't recall you being on the guest list." He spoke to the new vampire.
Jenna and Elena look up as well, the doppelganger letting out a gasp when she sees who it was. Stefan was standing atop of the cliff, ready to make the trade. His life, for Jenna's.
"I'm here to talk." Stefan said, as if he had any power on the night's events.
Klaus glanced at Jenna, having an idea of what Stefan came for. "Very well, then." He agreed, flashing to the top of the cliff. Once he was on the edge, he walked calmy towards Stefan with his lips curved into a small smirk. "What can I do for you, Mr. Salvatore?"
----------
"We found something in the Gilbert journals." Bonnie revealed to Damon.
"Johnathan journaled the story of a mother who called on Emily's services." John began explaining. "The woman's baby was sick; dying. Emily cast a spell that would bind the woman's life force with her child."
"Skip to the save Elena part." Damon, having no patience for what the man was saying.
"Honestly, you really need to get a hobby. One that isn't obsessing over YOUR brother's girlfriend." Rebekah glared at the older Salvatore.
"Funny how he can't seem to stop history from repeating itself, when all it would take is to find a girl that doesn't look like me." Katherine added. "I know I'm unforgettable, but we all know Elena could never compare. So instead of drinking cheap, knock-off wine, just switch brands."
"Well, the child died, but the mother's life force flowed through her, restoring her to life." John explained.
"We already know Elena's going to come back to life." Jeremy brought up, not seeing the solution here. "But she'll be a vampire."
"Not if her soul remains intact." John answered.
"Please, don't you start Finn." Kol said, before his older brother could open his mouth. "Vampire's have souls, it's a proven fact. How else do you think the other side works. Plus, if you argued you didn't have a soul, wouldn't you basically be saying your precious Sage doesn't have one either."
Finn opened his mouth, but shut it when he got a look from Sage, unable to argue with that.
Damon was still skeptical, "Her soul, really? You're going to put your faith in some act of god mumbo jumbo?"
John walks forward, closing the gap between Damon and himself. "I refuse to let Elena become the thing I've spent my life protecting her against. And you can call that God or mystical energy, whatever you want, but yes...I'm putting my faith in it." He said, before turning around and walking back towards Bonnie.
Stefan and Klaus were conversing on the cliff top, well Elena and Jenna looked up at them, trying to figure out what's happening.
"What's going on?" Jenna asked, confused.
"I-I don't know." Elena confesses, turning around to look at Jenna, "You can hear them." When Jenna looks at her, she adds, "You can hear anything. Jus-Just focus on them."
The new born vampire turned her attention to the two men on the cliff.
"You don't need to kill Jenna. I'll take her place." Stefan offered Klaus.
"Oh, I don't know. I rather appreciate the symmetry of three women," Klaus says as he starts to walk around Stefan, "Three goddesses, Sacrificed at nature's altar."
"What are they saying?" Elena whispers to Jenna.
"I can't-I can't make it out." Jenna admits, trying to focus.
"Her senses must still have been weak." Elena said knowingly, "It wasn't her fault."
Caroline shook her head, "The exact opposite actually." At Elena's confused look, the blond explained, "When you transition, the first thing that hits you are all the senses. You can hear everything, see every detail to the point it hurts your eyes. What Jenna is experiencing is overwhelming her, and her brain, that literally just came back from death, is struggling to keep up.
"You can do this. Just relax. Focus." Elena burgers, needing to know what was going on.
Stefan turned around to face Klaus, "Don't play games with me. You'll get what you want either way."
"I can hear him. I hear Stefan." Jenna says, getting excited.
"What are they saying?" Elena asks.
"You're quite the hero, aren't you? I've heard that about you." Klaus says, looking at the man who was a complete 180 from the man he met in the 20s.
"Just make the trade." Stefan urges him, "Me for Jenna."
"Oh, my god." Jenna gasps.
Elena looks worried, "What is it?"
"He wants to take my place."
Elena stares at her aunt, horrified, before looking up at Stefan.
----------
Matt is sitting in the parlor, staring blankly at the fire. Caroline stares out the window.
"How's Tyler doing?" Matt asked.
"Sleeping." Caroline answers, "He should be back to normal by morning."
"Good." Matt nods, before pausing briefly, overwhelmed by the night's events. "So this is your life now, huh?"
Caroline smiles at him, "Never a dull moment." She jokes.
Matt stands up and walks towards Caroline. "You know, these last few days with you have been so great, and fun."
Klaus glared at the screen, 'Don't you dare...' He thought.
Caroline smiles and walks over towards him, placing her hands on his chest.
'... don't you dare hurt her.' The hybrid continued to glare.
"And so Caroline. I-I thought that I might be able to get past this whole vampire thing." The human told her.
"And he's dead. Call the time." Kol said, as a doctor would.
"What?" Elena asked, confused.
"Klaus is definitely going to kill him after this." Katherine yawned, bored.
"He can't." Elena protested.
"He can." Rebekah rolled her eyes, "Honestly, what is it with you and your ex's."
"No!" Elena shouted.
"Oh, I will." Klaus growled, already planning on ways to end the boy's human life, followed by the vampire one the human will come to see as a curse.
"Klaus no." Caroline said firmly. Not two words many could claim to have said and survived. "You can't go around killing every guy I've broken up with."
"Can't I?" Klaus said, more than ready to accept that challenge.
The baby vampire's eyes narrowed at him, "You can't."
"But you can. Matt..." Caroline pleaded.
"I don't-" The human stuttered, "I don't know if I can, Caroline." Matt walks past Caroline, unable to say anything else.
Caroline turns around with a look of desperation plastered on her face, "Matt!"
The boy turns around and looks at her, "I get it. This is your life now. You know what my life is, Care? My life is an absentee mom. And a bunch of bills to pay, and school, and a job, and it - and it sucks sometimes. But it's my life. And...I think that I just want to live it without all of this."
Caroline looks at him, sadly, but nods her head, understanding what he wants.
----------
Down in the basement of the Old Witch House, Bonnie has her hands placed on either side of John's head and is chanting a spell.
Jeremy and Damon stand by, watching.
Damon, becoming impatient, snaps his fingers. "Come on, Bonnie, we got a hybrid to kill."
Bonnie, fed up after watching how Damon had spoke to her, in front of, and behind her back, said to him what she couldn't that say because she was casting a spell, and because she never had the courage to, "If your in such a rush, why didn't you go kill the hybrid. Oh right, you couldn't."
Damon stared at the witch, open mouth, trying to find something to say back, but couldn't.
Sheila and Caroline smiled, proud that the witch was talking back. Better late than never.
Elena opened her mouth to say something, but before she could, Kol sneaky snapped her neck, minimizing the sound with his other hand.
Jeremy looks back at Damon, signaling with his hand for Damon to be tolerant of the situation.
Not long after that, Bonnie opens her eyes. "It's done."
"That's it? Let's go." Damon says as he walks out of the room.
John opens his eyes as Bonnie walks past him. Bonnie turns to Jeremy and gently touches his arm.
"I'll be back soon." The witch says.
Jeremy reaches out to her, "Wait, what do you mean? No, I'm coming. I need to be there. I need to make sure you guys are okay."
"And who's going to make sure you're okay?" Bonnie asks.
"I've got my own ring." Jeremy says, flashing her his ring, "Look, I'm not taking no for an answer."
Bonnie kisses Jeremy goodbye. She pulls away and Jeremy smiles at her. Suddenly, Jeremy looks at her, confused, and starts to fall to the floor. John grabs him and leads him back to a chair.
"Easy, easy." He says, before turning to Bonnie. "Just go. I'll stay with him."
Bonnie looks at Jeremy one last time before exiting the basement with Damon.
----------
Elena gasped awake, causing everybody to turn to her surprised. Caroline and Bonnie blinked in shock, they had no idea somebody had killed her.
Katherine, Rebekah, and Kol laughed openly, well Sage and Klaus had a smirk on their face.
Stefan and Damon rushed to her side, but she pushed them away, angry that nobody even noticed what had happened to her! That's not fair.
"Who the hell killed me?" The human doppelganger demanded.
"I did." Kol said, raising his hand proudly. When Elena glared at him, he laughed, "What are you going to do, sick your dogs on me. Ohh no, I'm so scared. Nik, Elijah, help me."
Stefan, who was ready to defend Elena, deflated at the reminder that even if they did somehow manage to snap Kol's neck as revenge, Elijah and Klaus would be right there to rip out their hearts.
Upstairs, Alaric and Elijah wait until they hear Damon and Bonnie walk up the stairs.
"It's time." Elijah nods.
Damon and Bonnie exit the house without glancing at Alaric or Elijah. Elijah and Alaric follow them.
"All right. I got the weapons in the car." The hunter said.
"Bonnie's the only weapon we need." Elijah informed him.
Elijah walks out the doorway. Alaric follows behind him but when he tries to exit the house, he finds that an invisible barrier is blocking him in.
"Bonnie! What is this?" Alaric demands.
Bonnie stops and looks back at him. "I can't put anyone else at risk."
"I can't stay here with Jenna out there!" Alaric shouted at her.
"I'm sorry." Bonnie apologized.
But that wasn't the response he was looking for, so Alaric turned to Damon, "You can't do this! Damon?"
"Sorry, buddy. She's right." Damon said as he, Bonnie and Elijah started to walk away.
"No! You can't do this. Bonnie! Bonnie!" The human says, angrily hitting the doorframe.
----------
"Elena..." Jenna said.
Elena shook her head, "I have to do something. This can't happen. None of it."
"He is trying to give you a way to save your aunt. Your family. And you are choosing to risk it." Finn asked, confused. He may have tried to kill his siblings, but at the end of the day, he believed he was trying to save their souls. But here she was, willing to sacrifice her aunt so her suitor could live. "If a woman did this in our time, she'd be publicly humiliated and beaten. Then tied to a tree and left to starve to restore the family's honor."
Kol looked thoughtful, "He isn't wrong. Didn't that happen to Gertrud."
Rebekah wrinkled her nose, "Harsh, but it was effective. Nobody ever heard a peep about leaving from Gertrud's little sister Gro."
Klaus and Stefan came down from the cliff top and approached Elena and Jenna.
"Quite the predicament." Klaus chukled, "You know, it's funny, all this talk about preserving family, and here's Stefan, granting your wish."
Elena stared sadly at her boyfriend, "Stefan..."
"It's okay." Stefan tried to reassure her.
"Well." Klaus says, as he points a stake between Jenna and Stefan, "Who's it going to be, Elena?"
"No." Elena answers.
"Oh, don't worry." Klaus says, as if he's reassuring her in the same way Stefan did, "There's actually no choice." Klaus flashes around Stefan and stakes him in the back. Stefan screams in pain and crumbles to the ground.
"No! Stefan! No!" The human doppelganger cries.
Klaus rips the stake out of Stefan's back, leaving a sizable chunk of wood in his back. "I have other plans for your boyfriend. I want him alive. But for now..." Klaus snaps Stefan's neck causing Stefan to fall, disgracefully, to the ground. Leaving Elena gasping in shock.
Klaus turns to the witch, "Whenever you're ready, Greta."
Greta begins chanting the next part of the spell which dispels the ring of fire surrounding Jenna. Jenna looks on, frightened. Elena, teary-eyed, watches on.
"No." Elena says weakly.
"Your turn." Klaus says, approaching Jenna.
"No, Jenna, no!" Elena begins to cry harder and reach her aunt as the reality of what is happening begins to set in.
Jenna looks over at her. "It's alright, Elena. I know what I have to do."
After a moment of shared silence between Jenna and Elena, Jenna vamp speeds to Greta and ferociously bites her neck. Greta lets out a scream, but Klaus flashes over to Jenna and stakes her in the back, pulling her off of Greta, who has fallen to the floor. Jenna gasps and Klaus releases her. Jenna falls to the ground.
Elena starts to cry even harder. "Jenna, no!" Jenna looks up at Elena, tears in her eyes. "Just turn it off. Jenna. Turn it off. You won't be scared anymore." She begs her aunt.
Klaus flips Jenna over onto her back and hunches over her. Jenna seems less frightened when Klaus stakes her in the heart.
"No! Jenna! No! Jenna." Elena begins brawling now. Jenna's body starts to become grey and decayed.
Klaus releases the stake from his grap and stands up. Leaving Jenna's body lying lifeless on the stone with the stake through her heart.
"Jenna was a good woman. She didn't deserve to be punished for Damon's actions." Caroline said, tears dripping down her cheeks.
Klaus felt a pit in his stomach. He hated seeing Caroline upset. "There is a way to bring her back, you just need to know the right covens." He offered, trying to cheer her up.
"Is it possible?" Bonnie asked, surprised. She's brought Jeremy back, but he'd only been gone for seconds, not months.
"If you know the right witches." Klaus answered.
"Really?" Caroline asks, almost believing it to be too good to be true.
"Man, you are whipped." Kol laughed.
"Shut it, kol." Rebekah growled. "Way to ruin a good moment."
"Since when do you root for them? I know I have, but I thought you hated her." Kol chukled.
Rebekah gasped, "I still don't like her, but she makes him bearable. Plus, the more time he spends chasing her, the less he'll spend hounding me."
"You guys know I'm right here." Caroline asked, wiping her tears.
"Yes, I know. Now let the grownups talk." Rebekah said.
"What-"
Klaus smiled at their exchange before he noticed how the doppelganger had stayed surprisingly silent.
There was an odd look in her eyes. Klaus couldn't pinpoint it, all he knew was that he didn't like it. Not one bit.
Bonnie, who had glanced at Elena, instantly recognized it.
Those glossy doe-eyed orbs, that masked a much sharper look.
It was the look Elena got when she wanted something, and she didn't care who paid the price, as long as she got it.
She had that look in third grade, when she wanted an extra snack even if it meant somebody else would stay hungry till lunch.
She had that look when she wanted to go to the moviewa, but didn't have the money to pay and the money would come from someone else's pocket.
She had that very same look when she begged Bonnie to save Stefan, even if she knew that Bonnie was exhausted and wouldn't be able to, and Grams ended up paying the price.
Now, she was looking at Caroline with the very same look.

Well showing the past, I likely won't be able to sneak in as many Klaroline scenes into the 'watching' part (I say that as I have two huge special Klaroline scenes coming up in the next two chapters planned out), so I guess I'll just focus on the bashing. Good thing though, I can fill the breaks with as much Klaroline as I want. So you guys will just have to get your fill of the Klaroline, from the inbetween scenes of them reacting - until I start writing the future that is, then it's Klaroline all the way.
Also, one part of the episode really didn't make sense to me, so I decided to change it. Did anyone catch it? Here's a hint: Shouldn't werewolves be turned the whole night?
Also, Ms_Fiction_Reader from Ao3 commented that Finn would be the most still believing in the old ways, he was from a time of vikings, and was asleep for 900 years, so he wouldn't be... as toned down by civilization as the rest of his siblings, and they were right. So I am taking their advice.
Who, Watching Has Died The Most: Damon's still in the lead with 3 deaths, but Elena's on his heels with 2. So my money is still on Damon winning this game.
Anyways,
KLAROLINE FOR LIFE BECAUSE I WILL GO DOWN WITH THIS SHIP!

okay, I’m actually really convinced that #hosie is going to happen. here’s why:
1) they both admitted to crushing on each other at some point??? literally, what would be the point of making this a whole thing and having hope hint at the fact that she isn’t straight if they’re never going to do anything about it?
2) Julie Plec tweeted that they even considered a hosie kiss at the end of season 2, but decided against it because the timing was off. so it sounds to me like we’re just waiting for the timing to be right (like, I don’t know, once landon dies? OH, RIGHT, HE JUST DID)
3) the only thing really keeping them apart was landon, who not only is supposedly dead now, but even before he died they had that whooooole thing about hope realizing they’re not meant to be in the therapy box. why would they just cause relationship issues for no reason? we sure as hell know that they’re not gonna keep the main character in a CW show single for long. who else would it really be besides josie? also, the second they went to an alternate universe where landon isn’t in the picture (1x10), they started hardcore flirting. interesting....
4) we all know that Julie Plec likes to do that thing where characters get together at the beginning of a series and they’re perfect for each other and clearly endgame and blah blah blah but then they break up after like 2 seasons and then get with their actual soulmate or whatever (like elena and stefan -> elena and damon). they’ve been doing this slow burn with hosie for 2 seasons now, which just sets it up to be so much stronger than hope and landons weird “i’ll just kiss you because i’ll never see you again” “oh crap, you’re still here” setup.
5) also, the CW is all about power couples. hope is the most powerful supernatural creature to have ever existed and they put her with...an awkward bird? no WAY is that gonna last. josie was already hella powerful, but after the whole dark josie thing and hope convincing her to “change her story” we KNOW she’s a badass. she’s really the only match for hope.
6) that whole “i want you to stay” scene was a liiiiiiitle more than friendly. like, can you imagine them actually doing a scene like that between any other friendship in that show? and like most of their scenes? they don’t film anyone else gazing longingly at each other with romantic music in the background. like, they don’t do things like that on accident. everything in tv shows is fully intentional. they’ve set up a really solid foundation for hosie.
7) the pig (WHO IS LITERALLY JOSIE) tells hope to kiss her, and hope doesn’t even say no to kissing her, just that she can’t kiss josie without consent. like, I WOULD kiss josie, i just can’t while she’s unconscious.
8) we know danielle and kaylee have been fighting for hosie for a while, and they even said in a video that they think that they convinced julie plec to make it happen. also, if you think about it, they were suuuuuper vocal about wanting hosie to happen and trying to get all the support possible, then suddenly they just kind of stopped. knowing those two, it’s definitely not because they gave up on hosie. i’m betting it’s because they got what they wanted. considering the timing, too, they probably found out that hosie was happening at the end of season 2, which was cut short due to COVID, which would explain why they knew about it but it didn’t happen. that means that we’ll likely be seeing hosie in the very near future.
sorry for that ridiculously long ramble but i would die for hosie and i’m so ready for it to actually happen.

This fake wokeness in TVD fandom has to stop.
Using Delena as an excuse for the hate Bonnie/Kat Grahm gets is BS as they have been getting hate since season 1 well before Delena. I don’t ship Delena nor do I give a damn about Delena but lets be real right now.
Calling Bonnie the magical negro is disrespectful towards Black people as the N word should never under any circumstances be used to describe a black character.
Stop acting like Bonnie was the only witch that played the Magical plot device role when we see Freya, Davina, Hope, Liv, Luke, etc play these roles multiple times throughout the series. However the fandom glorify them by calling them baddass and powerful. Anytime a witch was with the protagonist that is the role she played.
Why don’t people call out the fandom for the treatment of Marcel as the beast compared to Alaric and Lucien as upgraded originals. People loved when Alaric and Lucien were as strong as the Originals but hate Marcel for the exact same reason. Why isn’t the fandom being called out for that.
How are you so called woke fans all for Bonnie deserving Better yet ship Bonkai, Kennett, and Klonnie so hard. All 3 of these characters have threatened and tried to murder her. Because we should totally place Bonnie with her abusers and act like we are woke and concerned with her happiness.
Where were all these woke fans when Kat and Bonnie were being dragged by the fandom. Not to long ago there was a reddit post talking all crap about Kat and making racial slurs yet I don’t remember seeing any of these woke fans defending her. Same with Bonnie. Where was these woke fans when it mattered? I see so many people calling out Julie plec but how many post have you seen of people calling out the racist fandom?
If people were truly supportive of Bonnie or Kat why not create more quality positive content about Bonnie? Not content about what you hated the writers did with her character but here the shocker....what you like about the characters? Why not ship Bonnie with Quality guys that are actually nice and that haven’t tried to murder her or threaten her? Also why not try to create more fanfic content that doesn’t present Bonnie as fetish sex slave to a white male lead. Why not support Kat grahm’s music and other ventures? Her music is awesome and she has some other awesome acting roles.
If this fandom was truly woke as the claim to be they wouldn’t be so afraid to have a serious conversation about racism within TVD fandom and call fans out for their racist actions. People would show more support for these black characters. When I say support I don’t mean complaining about them being mistreated but praising and celebrating the awesome things about them.

Time to get more off my chest..
OK what a great day for Tyler! Seeing that article, reading his words, I'm so proud and happy for him :) Wish him nothing but love and happiness!
Regarding Roswell, everyone on tumblr has already said so much about the last episode and that magical moment that all I can add is that the scene broke my heart and healed it at the same time. For Michael to find his mother, to find his family and lose it so suddenly was gutwrenching! But Alex stayed and he doesn't look away and Michael is his family! And Michael's mother being a witness to that deep rooted love for her son? Just my opinion but 12 episodes in, best scene of the season ❤
But it's like we can't have a day of happiness before another article tears it all down. That new Vlamis interview? Don't get me wrong. I love Vlamis to bits! But that interview? Not a fan! Far too much M&M forshadowing and it broke my heart when I read it.
For Michael to share everything he's shared with Alex, every deep and dark part of himself, for him to share THAT moment with Alex last episode.....and then turn around and choose Maria? Because she's a breath of fresh air? Because that's who he needs right now? Because he developed "deep feelings" for her out of nowhere? Sorry, from a hookup in the desert and some casual flirtation. Their friendship was super cute but of course men and women can never just be friends (rant for another day). I just can't get behind it.
What Michael went through, finding and losing his mom so suddenly was incredibly traumatic. It will never leave him and people deal with trauma in different ways. BUT Alex has finally faced his demons, found his inner strength, told Michael his true feelings and stopped walking away. These have all been such huge milestones for Alex on his journey this season. So much has changed for him since episode 1. And Michael saw all of that. He saw that Alex was willing to stay with him, to die with him. For Michael to turn him away now and choose Alex's best friend, I just can't support it 😢
I know the finale hasn't aired yet and anything could happen but it just feels like there's been too much M&M talk in recent interviews for it to mean nothing. If they're doing this as a diversion so the Malex reunion is a surprise, great! But I don't give that much credit to these writers and the showrunner. I want to trust them but these interviews and all the tweets give me such a bad vibe.
If M&M does happen, do they really expect Alex to give his blessing? I mean, Malex aren't together so why should anyone care what Alex thinks if M&M get together, right? Is that the mentality?
That's terrible because Michael is the love of his life! And Maria is his best friend! Season 2 is not guaranteed yet, viewership (although on par with other shows on the network) isn't the highest. If they make Michael do this 180 and choose Maria, how can they expect heartbroken fans to keep tuning in if & when season 2 is announced? I'm sure there are a lot of M&M fans out there but from what I've seen and experienced, the fanbase is overwhelmingly Malex.
I still keep my fingers crossed everyday for season 2 but this kind of messy, no sense storytelling could turn a lot of people off. Even for me, instead of clearing my schedule Tuesday nights to make sure I'm home to watch live, I'll still watch it but instead I'll PVR and watch it later during the week. Probably fast forward half of it. That intense, edge of your seat, need to watch it now feeling would be gone because I would feel baited by the writers. It would feel like they hooked us with this incredible, beautiful couple only to switch at the last second for whatever reason that only makes sense to the writers of this show.
Honestly, if they go with M&M, do they expect Alex to just wait in the sidelines, watching M&M kiss and touch and caress and date and be all happy together while Alex is pining away in sadness? How could anyone want to see that? He's one of the strongest and bravest characters on the show but even this beautiful, gay, abused, disabled war veteran has his limits!! And how can they expect Alex to just jump back in with open arms once M&M break up?? I wouldn't. I wouldn't take Michael back and my friendship with my best friend would be tainted. This whole thing would be such a disservice to Maria's character too!
Look, I know we still don't know what happens. Some people are staying positive, others have already vowed not to watch. I'm somewhere in the middle but I have to say that all these little hints being thrown around are doing nothing to calm the uneasy feeling I have. I want to have faith in this couple, I want to believe that the writers & showrunner won't screw it all up but it gets harder and harder when I read articles like this.
Sorry for the rant. Malex means so much to so many people including me. The community of fans that root for this couple is expanding everday because Malex is epic. They're cosmic. They're soulmates. Why would the writers mess it up in such a big way where there could be no going back? God, I really hope I'm wrong and Tuesday surprises me in all the right ways!
I remember a quote from Julie Plec weeks ago. She said that the finale pays off on the couples, all the couples, in a big way. Well, all the couples means Malex and M&M so make of that what you will.
Excuse me while I go drink some wine and bang my head on the wall. Some positive thoughts would be great.

Hosie and my coming out story.
So I'm writing this after just watching episode 1x12 of legacies. My girlfriend and i we've been dating for 2 years and I've known I'm gay since i was 13, but i never came out to my family cause they're quite homophofic. When me and the girl of my dreams started dating i told one of my brothers and my sister in law, because they're the only ones in the family that aren't homophofic. You know, if any of you gays are reading this I'm sure you can relate, but as my girlfriend would put it, i always shipped couples that never end up together, and over the years that kept breaking my heart, sure there's a lot more lgbtq+ representation today then there was before, but i always, for whatever reason craved couples that, even though all of us gays know, and a lot of times even the actors/actresses playing the roles know how much chemistry they have and much better they would be together, than the heterosexual relationship they're forced to be in, felt drawn to these couples.
I've had depression for years, and thankfully now I'm doing a lot better, but for a long time, shows were my escape from reality, and even though now my reality is a lot better than it was before i still depend on them for of course entertainment and when things get bad again to take me away. My heart still aches for all the ships that will never be end game (looking at you supercorp, looking at you with gays tears falling from my eyes), and against the opinion of my girlfriend, who's been through the same, not as much but swan queen killed her as I'm sure it killed at lot of you, i still have hope.
I'm not gullible though, I'm sadly aware that most of these ships will never see daylight, if not al of them, but this episode, oh my fucking god this episode.
You know when this show started i was pissed, and still am, with julie plec. In the vampire diaries she killed noralise, that sadly for me wasn't surprising because tv shows have been killing the gays since forever, but when a lesbian vampire couple died it broke me, cause with the exception of a superhero lesbian couple that was my shit. But of course i have an issue, I'm addicted to tv shows, so obviously i didnt stoped watching the vampire diaries and of course i started watching the originals. That left me heart broken, because on one hand she did gave us a lesbian ship that got married and happy, that a lot of us were shipping hard, but on the other hand i had been shipping klaroline from the beginning and i was stuck on the "he's your first love, i intend to be your last", those words always made me think they were gonna be endgame, but of course not only was that not true, but she also killed klaus who i loved so much. So i was very opposed to watching legacies and continue supporting "her reign of terror", but hope was such an amazing character, and honestly i guess i still hoping that maybe they would somehow bring klaus back, but now i know better. So i watched the first episode and I've been hooked ever since. Not only did hope became an amazing badass but they have us a show that gives us more creatures to see. When i first found hosie i was like nah its just my gay brain seeing gays things, bit then it kept growing and i did my research and found that a lot of people ship it, so i was indeed not crazy, not for that reason anyway.
But i entered in that ship with a lot of caution, but then the lizzie saltzman legacies episode came out and i was like holly shit, is julie plec recogning our ship?! Is this real?! Of course hope is in a straight relationship but that doesn't mean she's straight, as proven by that episode. But of course my beautiful girl told me okay first of all you gotta stop screaming yay lesbians, and second keep watching it just be careful i don't want you to be hurt again. And i did. But then this episode came out. Just on the weekend that i have to go to my parents house. I've been wanting to come out for as long as i can remember, but i was always terrified of the consequences, but now that i don't legally or financially need them, i can officially do it.
It may not be a lot, but the fact that josie actually admitted that she had feelings for hope, and that's in no way saying if she still has them or not, and seeing hope's reaction, just killed me. Now we all know that julie plec likes to play with the characters before, placing them with their loved ones, so who knows? Hosie might be endgame, or it might be another heartbreak. Either way, for whatever reason it made me realize that i don't want to hide who i am anymore. Josie had to, in some part hide who she is for her whole life because she always lived for her sister, but now she's finally being herself. And i think it's about time i do the same.
Anyway, that's it. Thanks for reading my rant, if anyone actually reads it, and wish me luck, because it's going to be a long weekend.
Alright, have a gay day, and life, and a from one gay to another, i really hope you don't have to hide who you are, because it's painful, and who you are is a beautiful person that the world should see.
