i so fucking badly need to know what happened between seasons 5 and 6. what was going on in ians minds after he broke up with mickey and mickey got sentenced to prison and he wasnt regularly taking his medication - if at all - and he visited mickey a couple times only because svetlana said he had to and he would go over to the balls' house to see yevgeny and all his siblings could talk about for a couple weeks was how peaceful the house was without sammi and chucky and carl and mickey there and nothing felt real and fiona forced him to get a job at patsys so she could keep an eye on him and he felt so weighted down and empty that he went on that bridge to end his own life

I recently redeveloped a Shameless US obsession after having overcome it 4 years ago and I just have to rant about the way Mickey was written off in the 6th season. In season 5, when gallavich breaks up, our hearts are broken in a million tiny little pieces. BUT we understand the necessity of the break up and, as is the case for most of the time up until season 5, the writing is good enough that we can sympathise with both Mickey and Ian. The start of season 6 is UNFORGIVABLE. They did Mickey downright atrocious. They actually made Ian treat him like a toxic ex??? When Ian visited him in prison he had the audacity to tell him that Svetlana paid him to come???? What the actual fuck. AND it doesn't stop there. Mickey shows him a literal TATTOO OF HIS NAME ACROSS HIS CHEST AND IAN DOES NOT GIVE EVEN A FRACTION OF A FUCK???? And the cherry on top in this sadistic cake was that Mickey had to ask him MULTIPLE TIMES if he would wait for him to get out AND IAN DIDN'T EVEN HAVE THE COMMON DECENCY TO LIE WITHOUT BEING ASKED TO LIE FIRST????????? That scene pissed me off more than the entirety of season 5 did, because they left Mickey without a single shred of self respect. He was one of the most well developed characters. His progress was unreal. He went from "Kiss me an I'll rip your fucking tongue out" to:
1. Coming out for Ian just because he was afraid to lose him again
2. Taking care of him when his depression hit (even if in the long term the psych ward was the better option)
3. Supporting Ian in every single one of his phases. When he was manic, he made plans with him and calmed him down. When he was depressed, he laid with him and hid the knives. When he STOLE HIS BABY, HE FORGAVE HIM IMMEDIATELY AND DID EVERYTHING HE COULD SO HE COULD GET PROPER HELP.
4. He did not give up on him even when he was tempted to do so.
5. He assumed the role of Ian's personal nurse when the idiot refused to take his medication like a toddler because he only wanted what was best for him.
6. He eas the first one to say "I love you', 2 time, both unreciprocated.
And Ian was willing to look besides all the aforementioned stuff and just plain up treat him like he meant nothing to him, as if he didn't mean the world to him a couple seasons ago. The breakup was extremely painful, especially because Ian was heavily influenced by Monica and pretty much forgot everything Mickey did for him. But the start of season 6. Dude. That's a new low. This is limbo dancing with satan kind of low. This is the writers don't respect the audience kind of low. Come on.

Galladrabbles: I'd rather have you, cursed or not.
Thank you to @chicanomick for this beautiful @galladrabbles prompt! I decided to combine the Supernatural quote with last week's 'pressure' prompt and take my first stab at writing an AU.
----
Fingertips apply pressure to the bruise on Mickey's side.
"Terry?" he asks.
"Don't," Mickey balks, snatching his wrist. "Could notice."
That's a 'yes', then. Anger bubbles inside Ian, his jaw hardening. He twists away, attempting to free himself.
"Bullshit. Let me help."
Mickey scoffs, unhanding him. "M'beyond that, Gallagher. Curse of bein' a Milkovich," his head dips, boots awkwardly shuffling. "Shouldna dragged you into this shit. Go, get some piece of mind."
Ian seizes him as he turns around, light flashing under Mickey's shirt where hand and skin make contact, mark instantly gone.
"I'd rather have you, cursed or not."

Ngl I also blame Frank for this. As usual, he does things that end up screwing everyone else. I mean, this all started because he wanted Sammi off his back or to get back at Sammi for shooting him or whatever and so told Carl to put the drugs on Chuckie and then proceeded to call the cops on them.

Four days of nothing but blowjobs, his favorite meals for dinner, and having that tall dork walk the dog for him got Mickey suspicious.
Ian was sinking between his knees for the second time that day and it was only noon.
No really, it's no trouble at all! I'll happily do it! I don't want anything in return either, it's fine!
Mickey sighed, taking Ian's chin between his fingers and lifting his face up until he could look into his green eyes. He'd let this go on long enough, enjoying the ride while it lasted but curiosity got the better of him. "Spill. What did ya do?"
All sorts of scenarios flitted through his mind, each one worse than the last. I committed a murder and we need to flee the country. I gave all our money to charity and found out it was a scam. I cheated on you with Mandy's new boyfriend and we're running off together. I totaled your car. I drank the last of the beer and every brewery in the country was set on fire and burned down.
He should've known Ian had gotten himself all worked up over nothing.
"So I was vacuuming the other day…"
"Yeah, and?"
"And I sucked up my wedding ring."
Ian blew out his breath at the confession, a weight he'd been carrying for days finally lifted. He rubbed nervously at the impression left on his empty finger.
A crease appeared in Mickey's brow. That it? He shouldn't do it, but as his husband he'd earned the right to toy with Ian a little longer. "You did what now?"
Hunched up shoulders did nothing to hide the tall giraffe from view. "I'm sorry."
"If you don't love me you can just say so."
"You know I love you," Ian said defiantly. "For five days I've been sucking you off whenever you wanted-"
"Four."
"Five. Look, the point is, I love you very much, I just…"
"You're an idiot," Mickey said warmly, his heart giving out a kick whenever Ian declared his love for him so passionately. Time to put him out of his misery. "It's cool, I'll break the bag open. Again."
"I'm really sorry."
"Guess if you're really sorry," Mickey said, grinning filthily while parting his legs a little wider. "You could do something to make it up to me."
"Again?"
"Again."
