Reposting this here as well to have all my (can i call this analysis? Its little more than disjointed thoughts) analysis and art under the same sideblog
Im constantly thinking about the like. Aclimatization period c!alan must have had over Second and the colour quartlet.
(and what being "raised" by/with an Animator (and one with c!alans past) would mean for the color quintlet behavior/life view wise)
Like. Second's existence, (specifically them talking to him (and as such, showing their sapience) in a way he really cant denie with plausurable ignorance (like with victim, Chosen and Dark)(and god there was so many signs, so many ways c!alan could have snapped out of it (the 'ignorance') but doing so would subconciously mean he would have to come to terms with what he has Done and he was never in a position that required him to do it so he didnt (plus he wasnt very. Mature? In the beguining i think. Teenage. Anyway)) (something something we quantify animal's inteligence with how well they showcase it in a way similar to us) really was c!alan's first case of having to actually comprehend that he brought a Person to life, and coexist with it (them. them not it)
Like. That shift, from thoughtless cruelty to (a big break in anything stickfigure related to) helper and friend? That would have not been easy or seamless, i think.
(and depending on if c!alan has taken the time to comprehend + processes what he Did to Real People in the past, he would be more or less bound to fall into familiar thought processes, if never actions)
He must take its (their) opinion into consideration now. Take its (their) time with the color quartlet into consideration, Its (their) enjoyment of the art process. Give it (them) breaks, regarde them with agency, be a friend to them
[it would be so easy. So tentalizing to tame him. He'd never do it, of course, Never Again. But the instinct is (barelly) there, to reach into that uper task bar section upon entering on the art program. an extention. Stop it. Stop It! Stop thinking like that theyre a person!]
Of course with the time + experience theyre truly friends, i think. Their bond is very equal and playfull in the shorts where he appears
And all of this in just c!alans side!
Ive not even talked about Second and the colour quartlet into all of this, how their perception of autority and self-expression and conflict resolution and how the world works and how relationships works and Everything would be all but Based on themselves and c!alan behaviour! Theyve only ever known the computer and its habitants (until the discovery of sentinent (probably sapient too) life forms with minecraft (the villagers, piglins..))
(Their actions and perception of the world must be so so diferent and weird to a born/outernet-raised stick)
(^ ooh snap i derailed a bit here back to the post)
How does bondary-setting works, with something with so much control over you?
(on that vain, how much control c!alan thinks he has over the colour quintlet/gang vs how much control the colour quintlet thinks c!alan has over them vs how much control a born/outernet-raised stick thinks c!alan has over the colour quintlet is Vastly Diferent on all sides (and the conflict(?) diferences in perspective(?) Of that is so so delicious why hasnt anyone done aything with that yet))
The colour quintlet had very specific/hard rules over their existance/place in the computer (rules that have been getting laxer and less important/respected as time goes on (the light saber, and the lava parkour are good examples of harm being done to the computer, Actually). But how? When did the rules started being trespassed and met with Not-Animator Consequences, was it just the development of their bond (c!alan and the colour gang), that led to the rules being discarded? (theyre tottaly relaxed around alan. They trust him and playfight with him. (he deleted/attempted to delete them! Their first interaction was with c!alan's total dismissal of their life, how did they colectivelly reached this point!?)) What (life) lessons did they (color gang) learn on the way to now that are not normal/shared with born sticks cause of their way way diferent uprising?! (Aahhhhhh this keeps me up at night)
(i am maybe giving Too much importance to their relationship with c!alan, they most probably have learnt/lived most things solely by/with themselves as a group)

I am going through your old avm art because it is so tasty and would like to know more about the kingdom of one au and the bros au
thank you!!! haha i would post more often but my new school has very strict demands ahhh
Kingdom Of One is a bad ending AU! specifically of AvM season 3. neither Purple, Red, Orange, Yellow, Green nor Blue could stop King, but, well, the game wasn't going down so easily. it would protect itself no matter the cost.
King is dying. trapped in the illusion of a perfect life, a beautiful castle, obedient servants and his little joy, finally back, he doesn't want to move on. it eats him from the core, his code gets less and less stable every day, with his form quite literally forming cracks. it hurt for a while, but then he became all too numb to it.
he'll fall apart, eventually. after a few years or decades, doesn't matter. he is relatively docile, the game is playable, nobody will remember him.
just don't glitch your way through the nether ceiling, for all who step into the monochrome castle never get out.
---
Bros!verse is like my second oldest AU. i made it shortly after Mango had his debut. started out as a crack AU, since Mango was generally seen as Just Evil and Herobrine was considered dead.
the old backstory was that, basically, to get the Block's power Mango needed Herobrine's cooperation, which Herobrine refused to give. after some convincing, Herobrine made a deal with Mango, in which the stickfigure had to find a special cube (like on Alan's PC) to prove himself and after that Herobrine will let him do whatever.
a more competent cryptic entity would watch Mango from the shadows, but Herobrine followed the guy EVERYWHERE. while being a major annoyance in Mango's eyes at first, Herobrine's terrible humor and lighthearted nature eventually rubbed off on Mango and they became friends.
Mango won in The Ultimate Weapon due to immediately having Herobrine's support on his side after getting the block, messed around a bit and then moved to the Interspace to live with Herobrine.
NOW this didn't really fit with the whole my-child-died-to-this-game-and-i-hate-it backstory of Mango introduced in The King, so i had to change the plot a bit:
Mango catches Herobrine's attention after he purchases the command block on the black market. as the game's guardian, of course, he didn't particularly like the stickfigure's plan to destroy the game, but didn't feel like it was actually going to go anywhere. "too ambitious", he thought.
eventually, he decided to show himself and try to scare him off, but there was little he could actually do outside of Minecraft, in Interspace. Mango knew of this and genuinely didn't care. Herobrine's large ego was hurt by this lack of fear, so he made a bet that Mango is so weak that he will never achieve his goal even without Herobrine's intervention. seeing this as just getting rid of an additional problem, Mango took the bet.
from here the things go similarly to the og AU, albeit Mango is much more depressed. Herobrine slowly pieces together why the guy is doing this, though Mango doesn't admit it. Mango takes care of himself a bit more, mainly because he doesn't want such a jester as Herobrine see him at his worst.
when the plan is finally in its execution stage, Mango doesn't really feel like there is nothing else in life anymore. both of them were, consciously or not, postponing the day it would have to be done, but Purple's intervention the push came to shove and the beginning of Season 3 played out, however, when Mango gets the block, Herobrine is summoned to his side with full power, defeating the color gang easily. it was obvious neither of them wanted to follow the next step anymore, so they flee to the depths of the Interspace, where nobody will find them.
they proceed to live pretty casually, with no real need for money, since the block can just summon anything they needed. Herobrine tries to slowly approach the topic of. dead child but Mango is successfully avoiding all the questions for a while so Herobrine lets it go. for now.
Purple is also quite important later on, but that will be for another day perhaps.

Little Morena Elone, I'll ramble down below but she's one of my favorite OCs and she's not even really that important to the main LetterTale story
Morena was just supposed to be a side character, only created because I gave Sven a son and needed a reason for why Sven was a single father. She was meant to be one dimensional, but then I got real depressed one night and didn't want to use Lexi again to vent that specific feeling so I used her. It really started to build her character, and then I made her slightly more important to the story. I still wish that she had a bigger role however
Anyways, this girly used to be a nerd type in childhood. She really liked space and sc-fi, so much in fact that her dream was to go to space and discover if stickfigures could travel to other planets. She was still awfully boy-crazy even back then, but she was much more shy and way worse at flirting back in her early life. She was really good at the main subjects of school, though her grades started to fall during highschool as she started to practice her social and flirting skills
I don't want to spoil her backstory just yet, but let's just say that in the background... horrible things were happening to her that she didn't quite understand at the time. Those things changed her, and made her take a drastic route just to have her dreams come true

Right Hand Man Quadrilogy (Shrek Parody) Cast
Right Hand Man 1 - “Once upon a time, in a far away swamp, there lived an stickfigure named Right Hand Man (Puffballsunited) whose precious solitude is suddenly shattered by an invasion of annoying cartoon characters. They were all banished from their kingdom by the evil Queen Chrysalis (Kathleen Barr). Determined to save their home--not to mention his--Right Hand Man cuts a deal with Chrysalis and sets out to rescue Prince William Zeppeli (Joe Ochman) to be Chrysalis's groom. Rescuing the Prince may be small compared to his deep, dark secret.”
Right Hand Man 2 - “After returning from their honeymoon and showing home movies to their friends, Right Hand Man and Reginald Copperbottom learn that his parents have heard that he has married his true love and wish to invite him to their kingdom, called Far Far Away. The catch is: Reginald’s parents are unaware of the curse that struck their son and have assumed he married Pomegranate Cookie, not a cybenetic stickfigure with horrible hygiene and a talking autobot pal.”
Right Hand Man the Third - “When Hop Pop suddenly croaks, Right Hand Man (Puffballsunited) learns he will have to rule the land of Far, Far Away, unless he can find a suitable heir to the throne. The most-promising candidate is Reginald Copperbottom's (Puffballsunited) cousin Giorno (Phillip Reich), a teenage slacker in a medieval high-school. Right Hand Man and his trusted companions, Bumblebee (Bumper Robinson) and Samuel Rodriguez (Philip Anthony-Rodriguez), set out to bring Giorno back but find their mission is a bigger challenge than they expected.”
Right Hand Man Forever After - “Long-settled into married life and fully domesticated, Right Hand Man (Puffballsunited) begins too long for the days when he felt like a real toppat. Duped into signing a contract with devious (Poptropica) Rumpelstiltskin, he finds himself in an alternate version of Far Far Away, where Toppats are hunted, Rumpelstiltskin rules, and he and Reginald have never met. Right Hand Man must find a way out of the contract to restore his world and reclaim his true love.”

Alr had a moment to bubble a question out of my brain. What are the most common jobs that sorcerers are often seen to get? Also what would you say is the most easy/no-skill-required and most hardest/dangerous job to get?
Within their own realm, Khartes Trichier, there is no real "common job" for a Sorcerer since they're all fairly common, except for government jobs and therapy jobs.
Outside of it, in Cier, many Sorcerers will find themselves in the realm of hero work, adventuring, or anything that requires a lot of physical strength. In fact due to their durability, stickmen love giving Sorcerers dangerous jobs. Not unheard of for a Sorcerer to be hired to explore monster territory when no one else will do it. There's something to be said about species-specific hiring here, but the truth is some jobs just are better suited for those who have different bodies.
I can't say much for that last part just yet, @sugarratio1 would have to answer it if it's about Sorcerers. If it's about Cier in general, a very easy career to get into is dueling - while something regarding physical fights would require a lot of skill here on Earth, stickfigures are basically born to beat the shit out of each other. They love to fight and battle, and there is absolutely no shortage of duelists to be found around the continents.
However, this does also lead to it being very dangerous, since dueling does come with risk of injury and death. Lots of newbies and hotshots love to use it as an excuse to hurt people, instead of using it as a method to grow your self and learn to respect other people in battle.
Dueling is a high risk high reward career and one you should expect to devote much of your life to, but it certainly isn't difficult to get into if you're a stickman.

any tips 4 anatomy? (i adore ur art btw its so pretty but like in the way fog is pretty if thag makes sense?)
hi!
bear in mind that i'm not a professional and have never had any professional training so i might not be the best fit for these questions, but here's what's worked for me:
after learning the basics i did a lot of quick anatomy sketches from websites like Quick Sketch. so just draw in 10 minutes, 5 minutes, 1 minute and 30 seconds. i promise you it's quite fun
this will make you more focused on the lines of action rather than the proportions themselves, that should give you poses that actually flow rather than stiff stickfigures.
think in 3D, when you draw things think about which sides are visible. imagine the planes that faces the viewer, if you can't visualise it in your head, put that bad bitch in a box! quite literally. remember that you don't need to be drawing to do deconstruction. try to observe things around you as if you are going to make a really detailled drawing of it. this will expand your visual library and you will be better at seeing "the simple shapes" in well, anything.
drawing from videos, or even better real life also helps a lot.
i used to carry a mini sketchook with me to draw on my way home. metros are especially good spots for figure drawing.
aaaaand that was about it, hope you find it useful
(and thank you for the compliment! i love fog! it makes sense)

How To Seize A Dragon’s Jewel Liveblog Part 2
I lowkey forgot where I continued listening, I hope I remember everything (I did this over the span of several days)
the professional escape service is such a Camicazi thing to do!!! I’m so happy she makes an appearance and that she’s her usual badass self! Also, Eggingarde makes it out yassssss
Hnnnnghhhh. The scene where Hiccup gives himself up. Where he finally outs himself after a year of being on the run. The way his scrawny looks are described. His growing up and having gotten older. The way he gets surrounded by 200+ swords, which must be an amazing sight to behold, and the way the Witch wants to make sure he doesn’t escape. Everyone scooting after him on their yots (still don’t know how to spell it) as he aimlessly drives across the sand. Lol. It’s hilarious but so in character for the vikings. Stoick and Gobber finally openly supporting and rooting for Hiccup is such a relief too!!! It’s so deserved!!!
AND THEN THAT SCENE. Innocence, Arrogance and Patience my beloved. They shoot lightning. They are black with green eyes, and they are hovering over Hiccup roaring, preparing to kill him, yet sparing him because of his friendship to Fishlegs. The detail of Hiccup almost passing out, gosh, it’s the scene where Toothless pins Hiccup down in the woods! And since the book came out in 2012, this scene was inspired by the og movie!!! Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh!!!! Nevertheless, Cressida stayed true to her own vision and did not blindly copy the movie in return. Props to her for that. Having seen the movie first, it can’t have been easy.
The scene where the dragon gets caught in a trap on the Red Sands, and tells the story of Fishlegs. Oh my gosh Fishlegs. It’s so satisfying and such an oddly specific situation.
SANDBUSTER SANDBUSTER SANDBUSTER SANDBUSTER SANDBUSTERRRRRR
I don’t think the book!monster even gets a name. And it’s one of the most terrifying things I’ve ever heard described in literature. Cressida really loves horror. Welp, I don’t. I loved this book so far, but should I ever come back to it, I will most likely skip this scene.
However, the mirror tunnels were a beautiful sight to imagine!!! The treasures behind glass and Grimbeard’s red herring solved are sooo cool. Wait, I remember this episode in Rtte that dealt with a lot of amber as well. There was a connection to the Deathsong, I believe. To watch those amber/glass walls collapse and rain glorious, deadly splinters down on Hiccup was super satisfying.
Fishlegs!!!! Poor Fishlegs. Again, the description. Of them both being cold, starved, enslaved, unrecognizable stickfigures in rags. Just the amount of things these two have been through together creates a feeling of real brotherhood right there in that cave. Awesome moment.
I personally would have just waited for the tide to withdraw before breaking out of the tunnel and having to swim?? I mean, the whole cool crystal cave got flooded. Plus, the underwater aquarium effect was so unexpectedly wholesome because it fit into the unlikely narrative.
Fishlegs, the runt, gets the coolest dragon!!!! Yass!!! This is such a personally important moment for me, actually. This is why I relate to movie!Hiccup so much. Because the coolest character alive thought he was worth protecting... because of who he already was. This may be a spontaneous emotional dump, but I have longed for the very same thing to happen to me my entire life. But I have not been worth this to someone, so when I became an adult, I had to learn how to be this person for myself. I’m still learning how to be okay with what went down, and that I’m not going to miss out on anything much important because of it.
At this moment in the book, all is well and the narrator literally tells you to take a break, drink a glass of water and consider sharply whether you want to keep going with the story. I took that as my cue to stop for now. There’s still an hour to go. Will do a Part 3.
Thoughts??? I loved this part of the book so much, it was so amazing!!!!

Reptilia's Stickfigure Headcannons!
Here are my HCs for the types of stickfigures in the Alan Becker-verse (AKA: Animator vs Animation and spin-offs!)
There are 4 types of sticks in the world with varying origins!
Coded Sticks:
The Colourgang! Sticks that are coded into websites. They have varying appearances, depending on their artist and which game they might come from, as well as different abilities that the sticks would've been coded in with!
Outernet Sticks:
Sticks born in the outernet, like Purple & MT! They reproduce somewhat like humans- except they can also go to a hospital or smth and have the parents share a bit of their code to create their own child! An outernet stick's appearance will be based off their parents'! Virtually the same as coded sticks, but with a different orgin.
Created Sticks:
Sticks like the hollowheads that are created by a human. They're appearance is whatever they were made as and they don't age overtime- unless given a program to do so (Like Dark's mission to kill Chosen). Missions and programs may affect a stick's personality & abilities, but another factor that determines abilities are their names.
Spectral Sticks:
Mainly Sticksonas, Spectral sticks are any stickfigure tied to real life- any sticks that can break the fourth wall. Spectrals aren't necessarily bound to watching either, as they can also interact with other sticks, or even BE another type- for example: a created stick may break the 4th wall, making them a spectral stick as well.

DAY 01:
Assessment 3 : Research on 10 Animators
choose 10 animators that are not too famous and research on their life journey as well as their works as an animator
Top 10 animators***
10.Lemoncholy - A animation student currently on hiatus due to school. Done alot of animations as a animation director , storyboard artist, animator , character designer.
9.Dillongoo - A 3d animator, owns a YouTube channel that has been around for a long time. Does goofy skits and fan animations.
8.Jackie Droujiko- an artist and animator known for digital illustrations and passionate story telling. a professional animator and freelancer.
7.Vincent Chansard -professional animator that has done alot of real life like animations for one piece and other animes. His works have recently reached out a large audience and currently rising in popularity in the industry.
6.Weilin Zhang -professional animator that has done and been working with wide range of animes like one piece, boruto, magical destroyers, Castlevania and game trailer for Hades however not popular enough.
5.Bluesechi -skit/comedy fan animator for blue archive the game. Uploads alot of fan animations using the characters from blue archive and has made animation meme that grow popular in the fanbase of the game.
4.Stealth -stickfigure animator that I've known for years now, has evolved so much through out the years becoming one of the most inspiring animators I've seen right on par with Juny.
3. Marie YASUI
Japanese mangaka,
animator,
illustrator,
character designer,
storyboard artist,
animation director.
Marie YASUI is best known for directing Rico Sasaki: Psycho, Eve: Shinkai, Eve: Inochi no Tabekata, and Aka. Also known for being the director & character design & storyboard of Eve: Fight Song.
Marie Yasui is a underground animator, not well known. Working with the music artist ''Eve''. Marie Yasui's works have been more popularifsed aswell as favoured by a large audience. Based off the work it is quite similar to the tastes that I have in terms of character design and animation. I love animations that have simple designs yet very contrastive and eerie with comedic tension.
Personally Ive seen all of Marie Yasui's works as I am a big time fan of Eve and I know that Eve himself collaborates with much more famous studios and animators.
For the best example, Marie Yasui's directing, character designing, storyboarding for Fight Song was a major explosion as the song for Fight Song was made for the hyped and popular anime, Chainsawman. As fans flood trying to find the song for their youtube playlists they encounter the original music video and the response to the animation was very positive and hyped up.
Below is a small moodboard consisting of Marie Yusui's character designs (there is no colour theme, it is to get an idea of the artstyle)

(check image description to view the role of Marie Yusui in each of the works)

2. JUNY (the goat)
Juny (born: August 31, 2004 (2004-08-31) [age 19 at the moment of this research]) is a Canadian YouTuber known for his short animated skits.
He worked on alot of short animations in his youtube and twitter page. in 2022 juny abruptly went silent for 2 years straight (at the time i did not know he had a twitter page only youtube page) with his last video being --> ''Its been awhile''
youtube
only to find out later that he had worked on some of the major animes in the industry -one piece wano arc and -jujutsu kaisen season 2. Not alot of information about him was available until recently due to his popularity sky rocketing as fans saw his potential and works in the episodes of one piece and jujutsu kaisen which had gotten highly positive results.
youtube
Even I was astonished to find out that he finally got to accomplish his dream career as an animator. I still do wish he would make more short animation skits like he used to as it really helped me motivate aswell as inspire me.
youtube
^ my favourite video of his work. (mostly because i stronly relate)
His youtube shorts are very comedic and memorable. The way he explored and used different artsyles is mesmerising. MOSTLY his character design is what i can relate to in terms of artstyle and animation with all the appealing effects.
youtube
(Go check out Juny)
*He uses Adobe Animate CC to create his animations above.*
1. Ian Zhang
Tumblr media
As you can probably guess by now, he too also does funny shorts and skits of animation.
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
He is a former engineering student , Ian zhang is a underground animator also known well in the industry for his works aswell as being one of the prominent figures for some fantastic and insane scenes in one piece and my hero academia. However he is not well known for some reason.
Tumblr media
Most of his memorable moments are when he animates impact frames and smears. The smears are like an art itself when Ian Zhang does it, extraordinary line work with heavy impact frames. The way he panels the camera shakes are just marvelous, very appealing to the context of the scene.
How his animation style relates is the consistancy of the smears in his works. For example
Tumblr media
the smears for the scooter were smooth and solid and the consistency of the characters were solid.

"What's your drawing process? Care to show a tutorial of how you colour, shade and render?"
I don't really have the energy to go into detail (visually at least) but I'm happy to show my general process and explain what I do for each step.
Tumblr media
1) I draw the rough page with "prelim" sketches, using a 10px ink tool in red. These are usually just stickfigures with ears, eyes and a few features that differentiate them, in the rough poses I need them to be in. The simplicity means I can move things around easily. I also add prelim text-boxes to get an idea of how much space I need for dialogue.
Tumblr media
2) I draw over the prelims with the actual sketch, using a 1px sketch tool in black. When drawing over sketches of any kind, I put the sketch at 9-11% opacity so it's just visible. It's harder to make mistakes that way and forces me to be more careful with my lines. Here I also add the other panel lines and keep the prelim text boxes.
Tumblr media
3) I line over the final sketch using the same sketch opacity rule, for the character illustrations. The lines start out rough initially as I use a mouse and thus can't draw with pen pressure, so once the lining is done I erase and add to the lines to simulate line weight and make it look cleaner.
Tumblr media
4) I begin colouring by first using the selection tool on the areas outside of the character lineart, then inverting it so it contains all of the character. This is easier than directly selecting each section of the character.
Tumblr media
5) The selected section is filled out with the character's base/main colour. I usually do this with accessories turned off, as they are on a different layer (ie Miltei's blade and Ash's necklace). Then I make a hair layer, eye/mouth/scars layer, and 1-2 marking layers, in that order of dominance. These are set as clipping layers to the base colour layer so I don't have to worry too much about going beyond the lineart. I just use the pencil tool at whatever size needed for colouring, and at 5 px for lineart.
Tumblr media
6) I finish the accessory layers and colour the inner lineart to simulate depth and connection between certain body parts. Eyes receive "eye lights" (white dots of varying sizes at a low opacity) to simulate eye reflectiveness.
Tumblr media
7) I then line the background using the same lineart rules/process established earlier. (Ignore that it's been coloured already idc)
Tumblr media
8) The base colours are added for the background. Some sections get rendering before others.
Tumblr media
9) Final colouring and extra details added. I usually add some shading or details to suggest depth and texture.
Tumblr media
10) Final tweaks; ambience! Skyrays like the ones shown are done by drawing a large beam of yellow light and blurring it a ton. Then I do it again. On the second layer I add thin yellow lines using the spread tool. Then on luminous layers I add little dust particles like in the sunbeams you'd see in real life (though usually you can only see the dust up close).
Tumblr media
11) I import the page into CSP and rewrite the dialogue using the prelim text boxes as a guide. I get them in the shape I want, then draw the speech bubbles using CSP's bubble tool. It's set to a sketchy outline to make the bubbles look a bit rough. These are coloured to match the character speaking, as are the text. The text and bubble layers are then reimported to SAI and the watermark is added. And we're done!
Tumblr media
extra notes: 1) Eyes are generally drawn on a separate layer to the rest of the lineart, and pupil lines on yet another layer. This makes it easier to edit them and colour them without accidentally interfering with the other lineart.
2) There are rules I follow with how I do eyes and eye lights, but it's hard to explain. If I make an eye tutorial I'll make sure to go into plenty of detail about it.
3) I don't usually merge layers unless I know there's no reason to keep them separate. Those eye lineart layers always stay separate from other lineart.
4) The panel/page outlines are never on the lineart layer. When selecting the lineart so I can colour, I just draw small lines to connect the lineart that goes into the panel outlines. This is in case I need to edit the lineart position or something like that.
5) How I actually approach lineart changes on a case-to-case basis. Sometimes I'll do hair first, or body first, or ears first, sometimes I draw them all on different layers because of a complex pose, etc. I almost always draw eyes and accessories last though.
6) Preferred font is comic sans (thought I use both upper and lowercase as purely uppercase is irritating to me as a writer) for readability. I use a mix of other fonts for varying purposes.

( @lunafandoms base accout, since theirs no anon, please ignore this accout, it just exists cus I can’t delete it)
This is probably random but if you want to, can you talk about your headcannons that are based off the idea that second is Alan’s self insert :D I’m glad I’m not the only one with that idea
Oh, I’m so glad you asked.
This is gonna be a mishmash of headcanons and “theory evidence,” but in all honesty my interpretation of Orange’s character in general is heavily based on this idea.
We already know that the animator didn’t expect Orange to come to life, like he’d been expecting the victim and The Chosen One and The Dark Lord to. We also know several other things that set Orange apart from these other Becker-born stickfigures: he was the latest frame in a run cycle, he wasn’t manually converted to a symbol, and it’s possible that the animator isn’t the one who gave him his name (at least, we don’t see him being named, like we do the others; Orange’s project itself is “untitled-1,” and the animator doesn’t name that single isolated figure which would become Orange).
But something else I’ve noticed, which I haven’t seen many other talk about, is this: Orange seems to know a lot more about the world beyond the computer than the stickfigures who came before him.
Victim, Chosen, and Dark, when pitting themselves against the animator, all resorted to either attacking the cursor directly, or damaging the interface in ways that prevented the animator from using it himself. Now, Orange still attacks the cursor, and he still takes advantage of the interface in ways that the animator can’t, but he does a few things that none of the three that came before him ever did:
(continued below the cut)
He acknowledges that the animator is more than just the cursor. Before Ava4, none of the sticks gave any sign that they were aware of some human on the other side of the monitor screen. Victim, Chosen, and Dark all acted like the cursor was the animator, but Orange does not do this. He sees/hears the animator returning to the computer desk before the animator interacts with the pc at all. He somehow sends the animator a declaration of war via the error windows. When they talk, near the end of the video, Orange’s attention constantly switches from being directed at the words the cursor is typing, to being directed toward the monitor screen. Orange knew, seemingly from minute one, that the cursor was merely an avatar that the animator used to interact with the pc; he knew that there was more to the animator than just the cursor. (I should note that Orange is no longer the only stick to do this, as The Chosen One’s Return shows Chosen and the animator openly acknowledging each other through the monitor screen, while vs League also features the color gang attempting to interact with the animator through the monitor screen. But I will point out that, to date, Orange is still the only stick to go so far as to tap on the screen itself in an effort to get the animator’s attention, as we see in vs Pokemon.
He is aware of human societal conventions. Orange’s first attack against the animator isn’t through demolition of the pc, or through inhibition of the cursor; It's through defamation of character. Yes, I’m talking about Orange impersonating Alan on Facebook and leaving rude comments on posts. But think about what that means. It means that Orange understands why Alan “liking” that one post would be seen as a faux-pas. It means that Orange understands how ruining Alan’s friendships could have as negative an affect on Alan’s life as not having a computer anymore. It means that Orange has at least some level of awareness that there is a world separate from the digital one, and that this is the world that the animator lives in. And honestly, why would a stickfigure be expected to know that calling 911 if it’s not a real emergency could get Alan in trouble?
He seems to know that he’s not supposed to be alive. This one kinda speaks for itself, I think. He always makes sure the coast is clear (the coast being Alan’s office, beyond the screen, mind) before he moves.
He’s the only one who tried talking. No, I don’t think Victim’s wingding-swears count. Orange is the first stick to address the animator directly, first through the error windows, and then through text in the animation program. (Yellow does it later, in Showdown, and in the Actual Short involving the game of hangman we see the whole color gang doing it. But Orange still did it first, and he’s still the only Becker-born stick to have done so.)
Freedom is not his end goal. Victim wanted the animator to stop harassing him. Chosen wanted to escape from life under the animator’s thumb. Dark wanted someone to give a damn whether he lived or died, and the animator proved to not be that person. Meanwhile, Orange seems perfectly content to follow the animator’s any whim, so long as Red, Yellow, Green, and Blue are allowed to live life on the pc unimpeded. Freedom is still something that he doubtlessly wants, but it’s not what drives his conflict against the animator. Once his friends have been restored, and they’re all permitted to interact with the pc at liberty so long as they don’t break it, Orange seems content to remain there.
Orange is also the only stick, to date, who has used the pc to send himself to other devices owned by the animator, using electrical connections between the pc and said devices (Alan’s phone, via the charging chord; Alan’s Nintendo DS, also via the charging chord). I’m not discounting that Orange and Red have both learned how to send themselves to other computers via email, and I’m not discounting that Chosen and Dark apparently had to travel through the broadband connection before they made it to the wider web, but I think it’s notable that Orange seems to be so comfortable with the idea of using Alan’s personal electronics for himself.
The last thing I really think this idea influences, is how Orange acts during conflict.
When he’s in a difficult situation, Orange seems to make better decisions when he has a moment to think, rather than when he acts impulsively. The same can be said of the animator.
When Orange gets frustrated at things he doesn’t understand or things not going his way, he lashes out (vs YouTube, PvP, Note Block Battle, Lush Caves, The Warden). Just like the animator.
When Orange doesn’t want to deal with something, or can't think of another way out of the situation, he just. Ends it. (the original vs Minecraft, when he binned the Minecraft icon. Note Blocks, where he muted the volume. Note Block Battle, where he beat the color gang at their own game just to shut them down. The Piglin War, where he almost dismantled the nether portal before anyone had a chance to realize that Blue was missing. The Witch, where he tried to bring everyone home despite the rest of them wanting to hang out with Purple. The Ultimate Weapon, where he launched himself at King with no context. The Warden, when he broke the skulk sensor.) Just like the animator (AvA1, AvA4, The Virus).
We also see him remembering his solutions to previous problems, and using them to solve new ones that occur many videos later (remembering that sending the Minecraft icon through the portal would reset the game; Alan being quicker about trying to replace his cursor in The Virus than he was in AvA4).
Also, it’s been said by others that the color gang almost seem to be able to read each other’s minds, sometimes, with how synchronized their actions are. But look at Alan and Orange working together in The Virus and tell me it doesn’t feel similar. They started drawing the same gun, for crying out loud. Even as far back as AvA4, Orange’s sketches may have been better than Alan’s as far as technique but he was still drawing all the same subjects that Alan had tried drawing.
Alan threw rocks at Dark, during Showdown. The Second Coming through a rock at Dark, during Showdown.
And there's also a few things that were more prevalent in earlier episodes than in more recent ones, but: Victim, Chosen, and Dark all seemed to have an instant understanding of how they could interact with the interfaces on the pc desktop, while Orange seemed to be exploring it as much as the rest of color gang were. (In more recent episodes he can "type" just by tapping his hands in the text bar, just like Dark does in Showdown; whereas in AvA4 and the early Minecraft shorts he had to steal type from elsewhere on the page.)
I don’t have a formal conclusion for this. These are my thoughts on Orange being Alan’s self-insert. I know it’s already true in a meta-sense, but I think it may hold a little truth in-universe as well, though I doubt it was c!Alan’s intent.
Thank you for asking!

sunny day
I needed to get a new SD card for my camera. First world problem. That was down at the mall – a twenty minute walk away.
Sunny day. My addiction problems showed tiny signs of abating. I naively thought that I wasn’t dead yet and I was still relatively young. Which is probably how folks go on to die, if they keep dying. But I also found it hard to think of people I’d met who were totally moral. I had an uncle who was a totally sweet man, dead now (from dementia, years back) and there was this semi-friend in high school who lived in Asia now. And another chap from Singapore who was just a complete great chap. And there was my English friend who was a film critic.
Meh, here was my mind rambling again. Has modernist writing gone out of fashion?
18 degrees and in this country that’s not so usual. Cars blared on the road. The high school kids were walking in black stickfigures on the heatwaved streethorizons. I felt sorrier for the girls, for some reason, than I did the boys.
It seemed like, for them, the world was in a far more fucked up state than it was when I was a kid. You know. The rainforest and shit like that. What could any of us kids do about major problems such as those? Nothing. It was odd how minimal it made you feel when you thought about it in that context:
When you’re young you love the idealism of being a musician or an actor, or some kind of title like that. And even if you do get a bit of semi-success: there are issues like the Amazon jungle being routinely raped the other side of the planet, every day, and you have no power whatsoever to try and alter this fact.
And at the same time, your internal organs are strained from all the poison you dose them, daily, too. You hate your body and your mind and cannot control either of them.
You’re a degenerate. Everybody says so …
Come, now.
Do not despair.
You remember these lines from a famous, depressing movie that one all sorts of awards and was based on a book from a time period that was real, a real story. All those things actually happened to those people. So what are you complaining about? Jesus, get a … what? Grip? Life? Get your problems solved? How? Please, tell me.
Get a job
Get a wife
Get a baby
Get some babies
Get a promotion
Grow old
And perish after the age of 80, and then you’ll be successful.
People are often telling me they hope that I’ll one day become successful. Okay. Thankyou for the hopeful comment.
I got halfway down the motorway and then cut in down the park. The luscious green of the grass in June sun. A squirrel pinged from one treebranch and then a magpie flumed from another direction and I saluted the latter.
It depressed me that I hadn’t written long fiction in around a year, or so, something like that, and I wondered why that was?
Memory seemed to have attacked me so chronically since then. There was this restless sense of loss, as if I didn’t belong anywhere … and did not know where to go, either. Hmm.
Passing a man with his German Shephard, I wondered whether the canine would attack me … but, he didn’t, and I walked on down the shaded road and finished the can and put it in the bin and walked on through to the car park with the cars all sodden with sunshine and past those and through the electric doors of the mall.
Which is quite a strange one, for a mall. Whenever you go there it’s like heading back into the 1990s. Longer than that. Built in the 80s. Meh.
The air changed and these sparks and hoots echoed around the wide arena, a 50 metre ceiling.
On the way down to the shop where you would get SD card there were public toilets, and so I went in there. Chemical smells. Soap and nervous antiseptic others. There was a man pissing in one of the urinals so I picked the one farthest away from him and pissed in there. I don’t quite get how some men find it super easy to urinate in the same vicinity.
After that other man had zipped up and finished and washed his hands and left, I did my zip up too and then I went to the mirrors above the sinks. White shining plush sinks. My reflection was right in front of me. I had these bizarre, rash, zits on my face – at the age of 30. They looked way worse last week. But they’d left red marks. Hadn’t shaved since I’d gotten back from travelling. Eyelids all droopy. What a wreck.
It wasn’t like I was helping my brain in any manner. Leaving the toilet and on the way to the SD card store I thought about fifty memories all at once; and there was something about summer that fried my mentality, every time, even with this 30th one, it was worse as ever; I thought about her and him and those fists and kisses and the embarrassing quips in high school and college and the verbal abuse of my siblings and that bully tutor in college and when I used to try and sing and those symbolic failures on the soccer fields …
Altogether and in no random order. And I convulsed and my verbal ticks were uncontrollable and blatant. And I hoped that they wouldn’t be noticed with the scores of people walking by with their children. Mums & Dads; normal people.
I thought about the neighbour from across the road who also had a history with alcohol and how he’d been in hospital recently after his latest fall. He was about thirty years older than me.
Where was I going? How would this insane behaviour ever end?
