Feline Flight and Fight
This is a fill for today’s  @flashfictionfridayofficial [#FFF236 Fight or Flight] prompt as well as my @stonyauniverse  Adopting a Cat bingo square.
Fandom: MCU/Marvel Rating: General Pairing:  Steve Rogers/Tony Stark Tags:  No Powers AU,  Domestic Fluff,  Rescue, Cats Summary: Steve comes home to find his boyfriend in a unexpected location, doing something very much in character.
The last place Steve expected to find his boyfriend was flat on his stomach in the alley behind their apartment, wriggling his way underneath a rather pungent dumpster.
“Tony, sweetheart, what in the hell are you doing?”
“There was a cat out in the street and I’m pretty sure it got hit by a car,” came the muffled reply.  “I saw it run under here. We need to get it to a vet.”
Steve heaved a sigh; of course his big-hearted partner would try to save an injured stray cat.   But at the same time, he was afraid Tony would get scratched or bitten in the process.  “Hang on.”  He rummaged in the dumpster for something he could use to help, finding the handle of a broom and a five gallon bucket.
Kneeling down on the opposite side of the dumpster,  Steve bent nearly double to peer underneath.   Sure enough there was a bundle of dark-colored  fur hissing and spitting just out of Tony’s reach.    “We’re trying to rescue you, ding-dong!” Tony hissed in reply.  “Show a bit of gratitude already!”
Before he could think better of it,  Steve swept the broom handle under the dumpster, scooting the cat towards the bucket laying on its side.  The moment the creature tumbled in, he grabbed the bucket and clapped the opening against the side of the dumpster.  “Got ‘im!”
Holding it in place despite the trapped beast thrashing around, Steve scrambled to his feet.  Reaching back into the dumpster to grab a chunk of cardboard, he carefully slid it between the bucket and the dumpster to complete the improvised trap.
“Nice macgyvering, sunshine!”  Tony exclaimed, raising his voice to be heard over the unearthly howl now emanating from the bucket.  He grimaced as he brushed some unidentified crud from his t-shirt, which was definitely worse for wear.  “Could you tell if the cat was bleeding, or if it had a broken leg?”
“Not really,” Steve admitted,  “it all happened pretty fast. That said, it seems pretty lively.  How about you look up the nearest vet clinic?  My hands are kinda busy.”
“I’m on it.”  Tony pulled out his phone.   “So, if it’s a boy, let’s name it Faraday.  If it’s a girl, I like the sound of Lovelace.”
Steve knew better than to argue – it seemed they were adopting a cat.

Saw @storybookhawke's post and thought it looked fun. I haven't been working on much fic this year but at least I can promote some of my older stuff.
Rules: Give us the links to your wonderful words with the Most hits, Most kudos, Most comments, Most bookmarks, Most words, and Least words.
Most Hits It Always Ends Here (Hawaii 5-0 Words: 11,296 Chapters: 14/? Rating:T) A series of vignettes following Steve and Danny's lives from the initiation of the 5-0 task force to the present. Each chapter is stand alone.
Most Kudos It Was Love From Above (Supernatural Words: 2,675 Chapters: 1/1 Rating:E) Dean just wants a little bit of quiet to himself to release some pent up stress. When Cas interrupts, the night takes an unexpected turn.
Most Comments A Siren's Call (Endeavour Words:6,857 Chapters:5/7 Rating:T) Thursday told Jakes they had caught a new case. What Jakes catches when they go to pick up Morse is something else entirely.
Most Bookmarks Seven Nights in Rose Creek (The Magnificent Seven Words:10,733 Chapters:9/9 Rating:M) They had seven nights to spend in Rose Creek before it would all likely go to shit, and Faraday couldn't find a single woman in the entire town willing to satisfy his itch. Vasquez has some other ideas, although getting Faraday to understand them is a whole other issue.
Most Words The Untold Woes of Soldiers (Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood Words: 16,700 Chapters: 6/6 Rating:T) Lieutenant Ross lights a spark that the Flame Alchemist can't put out and other stories.
This work is an archival import from ff.net and is incomplete. I plan to rewrite and finish it some day.

AU idea I had
Okay, this might seem kinda cursed but that's only because I came up with it in the middle of the night so blame my sleep depravation. Basically it's an Arc of Scythe AU for Owl House. Stay with me. I put way too much thought into this so just go along with it.
Characters:
Luz is Rowan, Amity is Citra, Eda is Scythe Faraday, and Raine is Scythe Curie.
Belos is Scythe Goddard, Hunter is Tyger, Kikimora is Scythe Rand, Warden Wrath is Scythe Chomsky, and Steve is Scythe Volta.
The Collector is The Thunderhead, Willow is Loriana, King is Greyson, Tinella Nosa is Astrid, and Jacob Hopkins is Curate Mendoza.
Gus is Scythe Possuelo, Darius is Scythe Constantine, Hooty is Scythe Morrison, Adrian is Scythe Brahms, Terra is Scythe Franklin, and Bump is Scythe Xenocrates.
Vee is Esme, Eberwolf is Jeri, Boscha is Purity, and Lilith is Munira.
I don't regret any of the casting choices but I do regret some of the pairing that will result from this. Except, of course, Lumity and past Raeda.
I will answer any questions about this. And no, Luz is not Rowan because her name sounds like his scythe name. I did it for angst reasons.

Who are the folks that make the big decisions in the headverse, like besides Luthor and Waller?
uh off the top of my head:
Lionel Luthor (Thorul Society) Simon Hurt (Black Glove) Michael Desai (Sons of Kalki) King Faraday Michael Holt (Terrifitech) Tara Markov/Gaia (Terran Empire) Jenny Sparks (The Authority) Black Adam (Kahndaq) Kaizen Gamorra (Rhalesia) Mitch Wacky (Wackyland) Maxwell Lord Raijin (Black Hole Sun) Dr. Omen (Ministry of Self-Reliance) Ra’s Al Ghul (League of Assassins) Niles Caulder (Doom Patrol/Caulder Institute/NOWHERE) Brother Blood (Church of Blood) Sue Dibny (Secret Six) Ares/Steve Trevor Diana (Justice League)
the dynamics shift over time and this list is really just for Earth during Markovia's Imperial Phase, just before the Crisis Era

Top 5 songs you connect to characters/ships and why (and to which characters/ships you connect them to)
Oooooh, this is a fun one! Let's see...
Desperado by The Eagles - Vasquez/Joshua Faraday from the 2016 remake of The Magnificent Seven. It's a cowboy song for a cowboy pairing, no-brainer. I love the melancholic ache of experience in this song, and considering how one half of this pairing ends up by the end of the movie, lines like "you'd better let somebody love you before it's too late" feel particularly poignant for what could have been.
All I've Ever Known by Eva Noblezada and Reeve Carney - Steve Rogers/Thor Odinson from Marvel. I'm a simple man. I think about the line "All I've ever known is how to hold my own, but now I want to hold you too" in relation to Steve and his having someone to lean on in Thor and my heart cracks clean in two. It just really strikes a chord with a lot of things I love about this pairing.
So Close by Jon McLaughlin - Warden Blackwall from Dragon Age: Inquisition. Specifically for his romance route with the Inquisitor (or with Josephine if he isn't romanced by the player), I just love that wistful ache of imagining what could be, what he could be after years of exile and hating himself for his past. Without pushing from the player, he's resigned to watching wistfully from afar, feeling he doesn't deserve that second chance, and I think this song fits that idea beautifully. "So close to reaching that famous happy ending, almost believing this one's not pretend"... GOD.
Monotonous by Eartha Kitt - Tahani Al-Jamil from The Good Place. Okay, Conor, something FUN. I just think this one perfectly fits how utterly blasé Tahani is about her fabulous lifestyle and her many famous acquaintances, I absolutely love it.
You Are Loved by Josh Groban - Duck from Princess Tutu. Entirely the result of the AMV I've linked above, I think this song and the simplicity of the lyrics speak beautifully to Duck's immense capacity for empathy and selfless love.

Unbelievable Technology Insight Stories
Tumblr media
Technology is a defining feature of every era. Without the steam engine and the industrial revolution it sparked, Dickens' stories would not be feasible.
In fact, neither would the biographies of figures like Carnegie or Vanderbilt. And how would the 20th century have been different if there had been no power or internal combustion engines?
But we frequently forget that stories also influence technology. Steve Jobs had the widely recognized—though not exclusive—belief that the humanities and technology are intricately entwined and that the power of narrative has a significant impact on this. Because of this, it's impossible to fully comprehend technology without also knowing the tales that its users and the technology itself have to tell. When properly interpreted, technology is much more than a collection of lifeless items.
Numerous other stories are included in the iPhone in addition to the one about Steve Jobs. Examples include Claude Shannon's discovery of the nature of information and the legends of Maxwell and Faraday, who discovered the forces of electricity. There are others, including Shockley, von Neumann, and Engelbart. There are way too many tales to mention alone.
The catastrophic potential of technology was made abundantly obvious during World War II. The entire earth was enveloped in a whirlwind of human design as lethal robots tore across Europe and bombs with unfathomable power erupted in Asia. It appeared that the technology we had created had evolved into a worldwide Frankenstein monster, capable of turning against its creator.

Life As a Faraday Cage
Leif Blower sat at his desk, an as of yet unwritten report. He stared at the screen in front of him, typed a few words. It was good. But no, no they weren’t.
He was still tired, tired as all hell. If he got any more tired, hell would break loose. The coffee next to his keyboard was dark and inviting, like a shadow in an otherwise lit basement. He held up the handle of the mug to his lips, the heat of the steam piercing through the skin. He decided already that the heat was good.
After taking a few sips, the strong, bitterness flushed down his throat. It was scorching, but good. Energizing, or so they say.
But a few minutes later, his cup was empty, and he still couldn’t keep himself well awake.
That report had a few words on it now. Not enough. Only a few paragraphs. Less than two-hundred. It was meant to be so much more.
As his eyes fluttered, he thought to earlier that day, on his lunch break:
He sat at a round table with his sandwich, packed from home. A sandwich of indiscernible meat. Just the way he liked it. Likewise, next to the sandwich was a plastic pouch which contained a vague fruit juice. That too was good – more for the sugar than the taste.
His friend and coworker, perhaps for life, depending on when he died, sat beside him after she asked if she could. Her name was Martha Vineyard.
“How’s it going?” She asked.
After sucking off his straw, Leif looked up. God damn, Martha was beautiful with her clumped up curled mahogany hair.
He suppose he had hair, too, but he chose not to think about himself or his appearance much of the time. It was black, though, and short. As was the custom at the time.
“I’m fine. Wife’s getting a divorce,” he said.
“Oh? That’s good news!”
“Yeah,” he sighed. Martha sensed the exhaustion in his inflection and like a vulture, was ready to strike. But like a yoga instructor, she waited.
“She’s just gotta go through all this paperwork. She wants me to help her, but I don’t understand half of it.”
“That’s always the worst. At least it’ll be good when it’s done. So, who’s she divorcing?”
He looked at Martha, incredulous. Like that kind of look that meant, ‘what are you talking about?’ It was a common look at their company.
“Steve,” he said after a brief pause.
“Aw, Steve? I really liked that guy.”
“Me too. I’m considering divorcing my wife and getting together with Steve.”
“I wouldn’t blame you! Why’s she divorcing him, anyway?”
“Apparently he keeps making her breakfast in bed when she’s not in bed.”
“Aw, he’s really just doing his best, though.”
“Yeah. It will be better once the divorce is finalized, and I’m sure he’ll be happier, too. It’s just how it goes sometimes.”
“Yeah. I think the French have a saying for that.”
“They probably do, but I don’t speak the language. So how’s life been with you?”
“Oh, just jolly, thanks for asking. I woke up bright and early, strutted in the parking lot, and have been busting out reports since. I gotta remember to get home and water my dog after work.”
“You know that won’t bring it back.”
“I know, but I gotta try.”
“Yeah. I know.”
She stood up. He didn’t see her eat at all, but some people just liked occupying spaces to hold conversations. There was a part of him that told him that humans were social animals. Some days, he believed that.
“Well, see you around, sweet stuff,” she blew a kiss as she headed back to her desk.
There was still 18 minutes left of lunch. He only took a couple bites of his sandwich, but he knew to space it out in order to savor every bite.
Martha and Leif have been friends since their university days. Don’t ask them which they had attended, as neither could remember. Besides, it was a different time.
They always did feel something of a spark, but it was just that: a little flicker. For a time, they would have sporadic flings, but in the end, they never evolved from flings into anything else. Mainly, neither could satisfy the other’s kinks. What kinks were those? Neither could remember, and neither had time to think about satisfaction these days.
Still, they remained friends, and had a soft spot for the other. The wife, Leif’s wife...he couldn’t remember her name at the moment, but he was sure it would come to him. Probably once he got home.
Looking back, he didn’t know how he got through his lunch break.
Most days, those breaks went by too fast. But whenever he has to have a conversation, it’s like the whole thing slows down to molasses.
He typed up his report. It was the only report he had to type. Sleep was trying to knock him out, but he wasn’t down for the count yet.
After about (some odd) minutes, he submitted the report. After (some odd) seconds, his boss yelled:
“LEIF! GIT IN ‘ERE!”
The boss, simply called ‘boss’, as the name was a mystery, always haunted the office. Not in a scary way, just in the way that a coat might haunt a coat rack.
The boss’s (office? Room?) sometimes had furniture in it. Other times, Leif had to use his imagination. He hated those other times the most. As for which time it was that day, Leif hadn’t yet decided. He only knew that his boss wasn’t standing up.
“Do you know why I called you in here?” The boss asked.
“No. I never do.”
Leif was nothing if not honest, and sometimes not even that.
“Your report was great, except at one point, you spelled ‘because’ as ‘becuase’. Do you need to take a class to spell good?”
Leif thought about it.
“Yes, I do.”
“This class will help you.”
