Working Together to Reduce Risk for a Resilient Future.

The world’s risk landscape is evolving at an unprecedented speed and scale. The systemic nature of risk and the shocks that cascade across sectors, systems and geographies, demand a re-examination of approaches to understanding, managing and reducing risk, whether man-made, natural, environmental, climate-related, biological, or technological. While progress has been made in implementing the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction since its adoption in 2015, no country is on track to achieve the outcome and goal by 2030. Failure to implement the Sendai Framework, to reduce risk in social, economic, and environmental systems, renders impossible the attainment of the goals and targets of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and other intergovernmental agreements and conventions, including the Paris Agreement, and the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. The understanding of the economic, social, political and ecological drivers of risk is improving, but meaningful governance transformations are still needed to enable crosssector, trans-disciplinary disaster risk management and prevention efforts. Risk knowledge must be systematically incorporated into decision-making, governance, investments and behaviours. In doing so, countries can shape more risk-informed, resilient and inclusive development pathways.
The Midterm Review of the Sendai Framework
The midterm review of the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030 (MTR SF) takes stock of implementation, assesses progress and challenges; identifies shifts in context, new and emerging issues since 2015; and examines options for accelerated and amplified action in risk-informed decision-making, investment, and behaviour. This session is a kick-off for a consultation process led by the Working Group on Business and Human Rights to inform its report to the UN Human Rights Council in 2020, which will address the connection between anti-corruption efforts and implementation of the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights. It will involve perspectives from governments and multi-stakeholder panel. The panel discussion focused on a range of key questions for the intersection between these two agendas, including:
• How governments in different regions see the connection between both agendas and how policy and regulatory efforts to advance anti-corruption can extend to promoting corporate respect for human rights
• Lessons from business on how integrating respect for human rights and human rights due diligence enhances overall supply chain risk management and the importance of a people-centred approach
• Lessons for the business and human rights agenda from various civil society-led efforts to address corporate-related corruption, including: work done to address beneficial ownership and anonymous shell companies; initiatives to promote integrity pacts and clean contracting in procurement; and efforts to seek remedy for victims of corporate-related corruption through legal avenues.

"Seven federal agencies are partnering to implement President Biden’s American Climate Corps, announcing this week they would work together to recruit 20,000 young Americans and fulfill the administration's vision for the new program. 
The goals spelled out in the memorandum of understanding include comprehensively tackling climate change, creating partnerships throughout various levels of government and the private sector, building a diverse corps and serving all American communities.
The agencies—which included the departments of Commerce, Interior, Agriculture, Labor and Energy, as well the Environmental Protection Agency and AmeriCorps—also vowed to ensure a “range of compensation and benefits” that open the positions up to a wider array of individuals and to create pathways to “high-quality employment.”  
Leaders from each of the seven agencies will form an executive committee for the Climate Corps, which Biden established in September, that will coordinate efforts with an accompanying working group. They will create the standards for ACC programs, set compensation guidelines and minimum terms of service, develop recruitment strategies, launch a centralized website and establish performance goals and objectives. The ACC groups will, beginning in January, hold listening sessions with potential applicants, labor unions, state and local governments, educational institutions and other stakeholders. 
The working group will also review all federal statutes and hiring authorities to remove any barriers to onboarding for the corps and standardize the practices across all participating agencies. Benefits for corps members will include housing, transportation, health care, child care, educational credit, scholarships and student loan forgiveness, stipends and non-financial services.
As part of the goal of the ACC, agencies will develop the corps so they can transition to “high-quality, family-sustaining careers with mobility potential” in the federal or other sectors. AmeriCorps CEO Michael Smith said the initiative would prepare young people for “good-paying union jobs.” 
Within three weeks of rolling out the ACC, EPA said more than 40,000 people—mostly in the 18-35 age range—expressed interest in joining the corps. The administration set an ambitious goal for getting the program underway, aiming to establish the corps’ first cohort in the summer of 2024. 
The corps members will work in roles related to ecosystem restoration and conservation, reforestation, waterway protection, recycling, energy conservation, clean energy deployment, disaster preparedness and recovery, fire resilience, resilient recreation infrastructure, research and outreach. The administration will look to ensure 40% of the climate-related investments flow to disadvantaged communities as part of its Justice40 initiative.  
EPA Administrator Michael Regan said the MOU would allow the ACC to “work across the federal family” to push public projects focused on environmental justice and clean energy. 
“The Climate Corps represents a significant step forward in engaging and nurturing young leaders who are passionate about climate action, furthering our journey towards a sustainable and equitable future,” Regan said. 
The ACC’s executive committee will hold its first meeting within the next 30 days. It will draw support from a new climate hub within AmeriCorps, as well as any staffing the agency heads designate."

Do you think Riot will make more seasons of Arcane in different regions post-s2, make more shows with different names that are set in the Arcane universe, or secret third option?
Yes and no.
To start with, yes: Arcane has been by far Riot's most mainstream successful media project ever (even outstripping K/DA), and there is literally no way in hell that the company isn't going to want to keep milking it until it is as dry, stale and withered as the PROJECT skin line.
So I predict that, absolutely, we will see new seasons of shows set in the League of Legends universe, probably animated, and hopefully with some of the extremely good animation partners Riot has managed to cultivate over the years.
The ARCANE branding is incredibly valuable now, and I wouldn't put it past Riot to do something stupid like name a show set in the Freljord ARCANE: True Ice or something unbearably stupid like that, even though the name relates extremely specifically to the setting and story of Piltover/Zaun and the Vi/Powder/Viktor/Jayce character group.
On the other hand, Riot might be the company on earth I trust the absolute least to effectively capitalize on and carry forward a success in creative arts that can't be monetized with skins and event passes.
Riot has an absolutely astounding history of tripping on their dicks when it comes to telling stories about their characters, in no small part due to its leadership quite simply never valuing storytelling as an end in itself. If it doesn't sell cosmetics or drive Engagement™ with the core League of Legends product, good luck getting Riot management to spend a fucking dime to make anything real.
Passionate people inside the company have to go to war, every single time, to make anything good happen. Legends of Bilgewater, the Spirit Blossom visual novel, the Marvel comics collaboration (RIP), Riot Forge, and very much Arcane, were absolute passion projects pushed over the line by people who literally put their jobs (and in many cases their health) on the line to make them happen.
Alex Yee and Christian Linke are old hands at Riot with a lot of clout, a lot of friends at the company, and a lot of goodwill to cash in, and if that hadn't been the case, there is literally no way in hell anything like Arcane ever gets made.
The behind-the-scenes documentary Riot themselves produced obviously goes out of its way to let Riot leadership suck themselves off about how much they contributed and how much they believed in the project, but make no mistake, they would have axed Arcane on the spot if there wasn't creatives fighting pitched battles every other day to keep it alive.
This is true of K/DA as well, by the way, there was a lot of internal resistance at Riot to that project - and to Star Guardians, and to Heartsteel. Anything cool Riot has ever made? Just assume that someone internally was shitting on it in meetings and trying to get it shut down.
Which is why I am intensely worried about Arcane in the long term. Not so much about Season 2, since it is mostly being produced by the same group of people, as far as I know, but that project is also going to be absolutely besieged by C-suite jackoffs trying to worm their names into the credits, making themselves Stakeholders™ and offering Feedback™ and voicing Concerns™, and I don't envy the showrunners the battles they are going to have to fight to keep these vultures away from the product.
But I am fucking worried about whatever Season 3 becomes. I am fucking worried about what happens the moment any of the key creatives behind the first two seasons resign, or get headhunted to new jobs. I am worried what's going to happen when Riot decides that the showrunners are "being difficult" and standing in the way of what leadership wants to do with the now very valuable ARCANE branding, and either corporately mandates them into roles of diminished influence or just outright fucking fires them (it'll be publicized as a mutual decision of course, it'll be publicized as a much celebrated retirement or "it's time to move on to new adventures").
Riot is a company with absolutely infinite capacity to fuck up a perfectly good thing for absolutely no fucking reason except some kombucha-chugging, suit-jacket-over-a-graphic-tee-and-sneakers-wearing, keeps-his-job-despite-multiple-sexual-harassment-allegations-because-he's-bros-with-the-C-suite, motherfucking "I am a player so I know what the players want" platitude-spouting "themes are for book reports"-ass Silicon Valley libertarian piece of shit decided he knows better than the artists whose work are the reason he takes home six figures a year.

As your car approached the Shelby Company Limited offices you debated whether this was a grave mistake. Could you honestly go into business with a man you dreamt about? A man that made you feel confused and excited all at once. How could such a man exist and entice you so furiously that you would travel all this way for the ability to see him?
You were shown into Thomas' office by his secretary, Lizzie. As you walked in Tommy was already on a phone call and didn't pay you any attention. Your pathetically hopeful heart sunk when he didn't even look your way as you sat down in an armchair in front of Tommy's desk.
"Can I get you a drink?" Lizzie asked and you turned to her with a smile.
"A whisky, please." You said and she soon came back with a glass that she placed on the table near you before exiting and closing the door.
Tommy was still on the phone so you lit up a cigarette. You looked around, taking in his office. It was much more professional looking than yours, which often had all your paperwork and books strewn around the room. You stood up and began walking round the room, looking at the photographs and grand furniture you wouldn't have expected in this part of England. One photo was him on his wedding day, next to a beautiful blonde woman and you sighed. Picking up the photo it was unmistakably him, the man you had been dreaming of. At this point it felt like sanity had been returned to the situation, there was no secret affection, no intimacy between you. It was a night of mistakes for Thomas, a night where he could try to forget he had a wife but she was still there.

"Your charming wedding photo, Mr Shelby." You went back into salesman mode plastering a fake smile on your face before returning to your seat. "I wasn't sure if you'd decided on consultancy or stock so I brought documents for both and information on them both and our rates. My assistant can always go over the intricacies of returns but that is primarily up to you. Have you decided what you'll be enquiring about today?" You asked and Tommy said nothing for a few moments, staring down at the table.
"You know why I asked you here?" Thomas asked.
"The meeting, we said we might arrange when we were in that bar?" You furrowed your brows. "We have some wonderful annual deals for our stakeholders wanting to expand into the business itself if youll-"
"Fuck. Not the fucking meeting," Thomas said at a low volume.
"Then what, sir?" You asked and Tommy looked at you.
"Fuck," he said under his breath.
"Let's not pretend we're under any kind of facade that what happened between us means anything to you." You took a drag of your cigarette and stared at Tommy as he sighed.
"And that's a fact?" He asked.
"You're like every other man who's momentarily interested in me. Keep me a secret, not tell your wife about how you fuck men." You shook your head, "So yes. It is a fact." Thomas was silent and took a few moments before replying.
"I have no wife." Was all he said and you could have laughed.
"Thomas, this is ridiculous. Whether you have one or not I doubt you're the type of man who would risk anything relating to your social standing by having anything to do with me." You sighed and Tommy looked perplexed.
"You mean the social pariah nature of it all? A man of your age with no wife? You believe that troubles me?" He asked in disbelief.
"I believe what I know, all that is said about me is in whispers. But within our class standing non-conformity isn't taken too kindly and most of the time I have more business partners and shareholders than any real companionship." Without meaning to you sounded incredibly bitter and spoiled.
"We're both social pariahs. I'm the dick-sucking g**sy and you're the dick-sucking son of a business giant. I don't think we're all that different if you're going to reduce it to those details." Tommy pondered and regretfully you had to agree.
"Why have you asked me here?" You asked after a few moments.
"I can't be entirely sure, was it for business, to see your pretty face or just to imagine a possibility where I could speak freely of what I want. Either way I wanted to see you, we can have an arrangement beneficial to all that are involved. I do want to be involved in the arms business but, I also want to fuck the living daylights out of you." Tommy downed the rest of his whisky as your eyes grew wide, you never thought he'd be that upfront. You didn't know how to react, you didn't even know whether to say anything at this point.
Tommy walked around his desk, standing closer to you with a cautious look on his face. You stood up, nearly nose to nose with him. He ran his finger over your hand, up and down, over and over until his hand moved up your arm and to your chest. Then he leant forward and began kissing your chest, your heartbeat quickened and you clenched your fists- unable to resist how your body reacted to him.
"Oh, fuck it," you muttered before crashing your lips into his.
Pushing him against the desk you gripped onto his hair and lightly pulled it, eliciting a pleased moan from Tommy. You ran your other hand down to his bulge, giving him just enough attention to keep him excited.
"My Shelby?" You both heard from through the door. Tommy pushed you away from him and walked around his desk to sit in his chair, you stood stunned. Even now, in his own business with his own employees he was terrified. You supposed it should be expected and that you couldn't hold it against Thomas.
"Yes?" Tommy called loudly, Lizzie entered and gave him a note before leaving.
"So I assume we're going into business together?" You looked at him in a meaningful way and he scoffed.
"I'd be surprised if we didn't." Tommy said quietly.
"I can be in town for as long as you want me to be," you said slowly approaching the desk, laying your hands on it and leaning towards Tommy.
"Hmm, all the control in my hands?" He asked, standing up and leaning towards you.
"I'd be surprised if that wasn't how you like it." Your voice was low and sultry, this attempt at flirting seemed to be working… at least for the moment.
"I'd be surprised if you didn't take it right back," Tommy leant forward to kiss you and you stepped back. "Bastard." Tommy said with a grin.
"I'll see you soon, Thomas. Ring me at my hotel if you want a meeting." You picked up your coat and headed for the door but as you walked closer you could hear Tommy rise from his chair and walk towards you.
You stopped, gripping onto your coat with your breath quickening and lips drying out. His presence was so imposing behind you, as if he could do anything he wanted to play with you and it would all be acceptable. You were no match for the atmosphere Tommy created. Tommy's lips began tenderly pressing against your neck as his hand gently caressed your growing bulge. It felt ecstatic to be at his mercy, you lent your neck backwards and closed your eyes, feeling that you would collapse into his arms if he teased you anymore. After relentless over-the-clothes teasing, Tommy finally unbuttoned your trousers and you dropped your coat. But to your surprise, Tommy took hold of your neck and guided you to walk over to the side of the room in front of a mirror. He continued to kiss your neck and touch you but you could see the animalistic look in his eyes, the never-satisfied hunger of a queer man you felt deep within yourself. Tommy gently choked you with one hand whilst kissing your neck and touching your dick, everytime your eyes closed he would choke tighter and make you look at yourself and him in the mirror.
The whole experience felt foreign and not necessarily comfortable but exciting all the same. What kind of sexual entanglement had you roped yourself into? Tommy's need for you to look into his eyes as he touched you bordered on the narcissistic, but it was just so sexy how he looked. So domineering, so in control of your every move even when your knees nearly gave out he held you up. When you moaned too loudly he choked you even tighter until you came onto his hand and began breathing heavily.
Your knees well and truly gave out, Tommy held your weight against him and nearly carried you over to a leather sofa near the two of you. He lay down first and you lay on top of him, gently twitching every now and then whilst gripping onto his waistcoat. No words were spoken between the two of you but it wasn't without meaning, Tommy stroked and kissed your hair, he caressed your back and held you until you stopped twitching. The tenderness and care from him was not just a formality of sex or arousal, Thomas didn't know what it was but it was… confusing.
Tommy knew that an emotional entanglement would not be good, how could any of it end beneficially for the both of you? But his body would betray his mind, he was so intrinsically drawn to you from the moment he saw you staring at him in London. It didn't hurt that you were extremely pretty but it wasn't just that. The confusion of his emotion and sexual motivation were slowly intertwining and it was dangerous for him.
"Are you okay?" Tommy asked in a whisper and you nodded, gripping his bicep and holding him closely.
"When would you like me to go?" You asked, looking up at him and he smiled.
"Only for a few hours whilst I have meetings, you can come up to the house and stay." Tommy offered and you looked surprised, no sexual partner had ever offered for you to stay at their home- let alone a possible business partner.
"Maybe I'll make an appearance," you joked as you slowly sat up, Tommy propped himself up on his elbows.
"Come here," he gestured for you to come closer to him until you were nose to nose, both of your lips aching to kiss one another again. "You look so beautiful when you cum," he whispered and you rolled your eyes.
"And you're a tease." You told him with a smirk as you kissed him on the cheek and stood up.
After you'd got dressed again and made your hair look more presentable, Tommy stood up and helped you put your coat on. When you turned around to face him he pulled you into a deep kiss, running his hands over your chest and up to your neck. The need for closeness was unimaginably important to Tommy. After this encounter, Tommy could only feel that you were a necessity for him.

▫️ On divestment:
Trinity has initiated a process to divest from investments in companies that have activities in the Occupied Palestinian Territory and appear on the UN Blacklist in this regard. This process is expected to be completed by June. In April, the National Treasury Management Agency confirmed to government that it had taken a similar approach regarding the Irish Strategic Investment Fund.
▫️ On Gaza:
We fully understand the driving force behind the encampment on our campus and we are in solidarity with the students in our horror at what is happening in Gaza. We abhor and condemn all violence and war, including the atrocities of October 7th and the continuing ferocious and disproportionate onslaught in Gaza. The humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the dehumanisation of its people is obscene. We support the International Court of Justice’s finding that ‘Israel must take all measures within its power to prevent and punish the direct and public incitement to commit genocide in relation to members of the Palestinian group in the Gaza Strip. A real and lasting solution that respects the human rights of everyone needs to be found.
▫️ On support for Palestinian scholars:
Since January 2024 we have been working with local and international stakeholders including We Are Not Numbers (WANN), a youth-led, Palestinian non-profit project in the Gaza Strip to facilitate access to Trinity for students from Gaza seeking to continue their education. To date, we have identified places for eight scholars - six postgraduate and two undergraduates.

do u have any tips for corporate girlies? my friend is starting out in the corp world !! and got a lot of reality checks over how harsh and 'corporate' it is :((
Ohhhhh my god yeah corporate culture sucks!! It's just a bunch of adult babies using fancy words tbh lmao, acting like we're going to war and/or curing cancer when we're really just launching a product no one wants or needs lol.
Not sure what industry your friend is or what role she's in but here are some general tips, starting with practical project tips to more personal/sanity check tips lol.
Make sure you understand your organization's goals and success criteria. This is so basic but in order to understand what leadership cares about and how all the different project components fit in, you're going to want to learn what are all the active projects, who owns them, what success is being evaluated on, and how those performance indicators are being calculated. I work with some people who have no idea what is going on (which, fair) but it ends up creating a ton of churn and can look super bad for them if they are not in step with what our corporate overlords expect from them.
Clear communication is key. Never have I ever encountered more communication issues than working in corporate; people often have one image in their head of what a task looks like where their partner teams might have another, and if you don't outline all the key details together, you could end up delivering something unusable. If you're an individual contributor (aka a task doer), make sure you ask clarifying questions of the project leads if they haven't specified (like, what testing environment something needs to be deployed to, what are the release gating procedures, what is the expected timeline, etc). If you're a project manager, make sure you're clarifying those details with stakeholders and passing that information to your team; prompt your team to ask questions even if they seem clear, and make sure you get that info for them ASAP!!
Documentation is crucial. If you make an implementation decision, document it. If you have a delivery, document it. If you have a process for anything, make sure you document it. If you have a meeting, get those notes out. If you have an agreement with stakeholders, make sure you get it in writing and get them to sign off on it!! Information is key to helping other people understand what you are doing, why you are doing it, what the expectations were from other related parties when you started doing it, and how it can be improved if needed. If you're a project lead or manager, start a folder or repository somewhere for all project communications, keep all your emails & slacks with stakeholders (because they will come back being snotheads and you can politely whip out receipts). :3
Be proactive. Observe the kinds of questions leadership asks, understand their concerns & needs. Then proactively make sure you are addressing those things in your work and/or in your reporting. For example, if you're reporting on a release failure in a weekly business review, make sure you call out things like: 1) what you tried to do to prevent failure, 2) what the ultimate blockers or root causes of failure were, 3) what your learnings were from that failure, 4) what you are going to do to fix it, and 5) what the revised ETA is. That way, even though things didn't go your way, leadership understands you are on top of things and proactively working to solve problems.
Understand priorities & tradeoffs. There will come a time where you have conflicting demands on your time. Work with your manager or org leadership to understand what projects are higher priorities than others, and do not be afraid to escalate to your manager or above if progress is threatened or if you need to clarify. For example, Project A is high priority and Project B is medium priority, but the project manager from Project B is all up in your business asking you to deliver something or investigate something that you don't know if you have time for. Loop in your manager to determine if someone else can take Project B, or inform them that doing B will impose these anticipated risks to A; are they comfortable with that? Then you can circle back to Project B to deliver the news that you're working on A, your manager has suggested this revised timeline or other POC they can work with, and if they have concerns they can escalate. (Usually this shuts ppl up :3)
Improve processes. I cannot emphasize this enough but try to think about how to do things better the next time around, even if things went solidly to plan. Do not get defensive about your work or the quality of your work; always be thinking (or asking other people) about how time could be cut off of something, what processes could be put in place to minimize touchpoints or decrease risks. If you can, try to impose this mindset on your team & ask for project retrospectives, and take specific action items out of those retrospectives! Trust me it makes things so much clearer and easier in the long run if you work to make things better over time!!
Get a mentor. Find someone who has the job you want to have or who seems to know the things you want to know about and ask them to work with you on that! Tell them what your goal is, whether to develop a special skill set to move roles, or develop a specific understanding of a project or concept, and ask them to help you develop a plan to get there. Set up regular time together and goals to work towards in that time. This helps you learn things faster and gives you someone who can vouch for you when it comes time for yearly feedback, role changes, or promotions.
Create a personal portfolio. Keep track of all the things that you do; all the projects you are on, what your role is, what you were responsible for delivering, and what resources you created as part of that, whether it's project wikis, some script, etc. Keep your manager aware of it so they understand your value and have visibility on your work; you can leverage this when it comes time for role changes or promotions. Additionally try to make sure you're working on high viz or high value projects; this gives you even more leverage!!
Do not tie your self worth to your performance or your job title. At the end of the day capitalism sucks, corporations are evil, and none of this shit matters. Even if you don't do something well once, you can improve in the future, and even if your company doesn't see it/isn't a good match for your skills, you have value!!! They profit from keeping you underpaid, stressed out, and dejected, but you are not just a 'resource' or a cog in a machine. You are a person; you will make missteps from time to time but you bring more value to this planet and the people on it just by existing than these capitalist enterprises could ever. Do do not burn yourself out trying to please them, keep yourself open to other job options, and make sure you have a good friend/family support structure in place to reality check you!!
Idk how helpful this was but I hope there was a little something in there that your friend could use. If she has specific questions on anything I'm happy to help out too lol; that might give me more idea what specific aspect she is struggling with & how to help!
