It just occurred to me that both Talon and Kayn are orphans from Noxus who got taken in by an assassin master and raised with the idea that they have to be perfect for their respective father figures/masters.
Two Noxian Orphans who were roughly born either in the same year or a few years apart. Who share their respective edgy ness and story beats. Who even look a little bit similar.
Anyway, I now headcanon them as brothers who have an unintentional sibling rivalry dynamic with Rhaast screaming in the background because he figured it out.

What’s your thoughts on Hazbin Hotel replacing its entire original cast with celebrities?
... I mean, "celebrities" is a bit of a stretch, I think. Don't know that Blake Roman or Erika Henningsen were famous household names before HH, exactly. It replaced its cast with Broadway and musical theater talent, mostly, which makes sense for a show that aspires to be an animated Broadway musical.
idk if the original cast has complicated feelings about being replaced, I certainly sympathize with that, it can't feel great. But also... this is pretty normal in the performing arts. Like. Actors get replaced all the time, especially when a niche project suddenly gets access to way more funding and a production house with connections.
Mostly I just hope the original actors were paid well for their work and treated with respect and care while they were working on it, and treated with respect and care by the fandom after their replacement.

As far as I can tell, all the videos ARE in the playlist, and if you click on one of the shorts and scroll through, you'll see all of them, but they just don't show up in the list view for Some Fucking Reason. I have no idea what the fuck YouTube's problem is with this, but I'm sorry to anyone who's running into trouble because of it
Will we get more pokemon review playlists? I binged all 3 at work and see there's a lot of random shorts that aren't in playlists yet
Huh, which ones? I'm pretty sure I've got all the Pokémon short organized in playlists.
Or do you mean like big video compilations? Because the next one of those is for Gen 3 and that'll be out once the last gen 3 short goes live :)

I'll say that this applies to every form of online Content Creation™ - very much including being a youtuber.
The platforms you operate on want you care about the numbers, because the numbers are the main thing that they care about. The numbers are the things they sell to their advertisers and leverage with their investors. "Engagement growth is up many percent! Look at all these comments! Look at all this interaction!"
They choose which numbers to foreground and emphasize to the end user specifically in order to make you care about making their numbers go up as much as possible. That's why follower counts and retweets/reblogs and all the rest of it gets tracked and shown to you, and notes get put front and center on posts on tumblr, and views get put front and center on YouTube.
But caring about the numbers that a corporation cares about... sucks. They are inhuman entities with inhuman priorities, and getting sucked into their mindset is destructive to the soul.
Every time I log into my youtube back-end to monitor comments and upload videos and so on, this is the first thing I see:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A little summary of how well my latest video is doing relative to the average performance of my work, and then there's the lovely lil' top ten "Ranking by views" list which handily categorizes your last 10 things by size of number generated.
If your latest video is NUMBER ONE on the top 10 graph, YouTube will even play a little fireworks and confetti graphic on it to celebrate your achievement.
ALL OF THIS is manipulation. ALL OF THIS is the platform using Skinner Box reward tactics and oblique pressure to try and make the creators working on it prioritize certain kinds of performance, and chase a certain kind of success.
YouTube does not have a metric for how creatively satisfying something was to make. It does not have a metric for what it means to create a niche video about an unpopular topic which makes just a few people feel incredibly seen and validated.
How many views is it worth if something you created made someone put off their suicide another week? What's the engagement metric on a work helping someone come to terms with their grief or their sexuality or gender identity? Or, hell, what's the ROI on making just ONE person laugh their ass off for a full ten minutes with a really niche joke that basically nobody else gets but THEY got it and now it's the best part of their whole month?
You can't measure creative work in metrics. It simply cannot be done. Corporations try anyway, because that's how they commodify the human condition, but we must not share their philosophy.
It is fucking hard not to care about the numbers, especially when your ability to make rent might depend on them, when the growth of your career and your access to opportunities depends on them. But the numbers must only ever be a means to an end, not the end itself.
Small artists you need to understand that when you see an artist who you think has 'made it' tells you not to worry about the numbers and to not fret about getting more likes than reblogs they are not telling you it because they think you are stupid for caring or because they dont need to network to survive they are very likely telling you that because they have witnessed first hand the way the numbers game tears people to shreds in terms of mental health and motivation

is it possible to join your discord?
It is! I post pinned join links in chat whenever I stream (usually. Sometimes I forget. Remind me in chat), and occasionally I post them here and there in community posts on the YouTube channels.
Mostly I keep the discord closed off to prevent raiding, but also I have found that slow growth is very helpful for moderation (if you ban someone they can't just make another account and come back) and for maintaining the general vibe of the server.
You can also get in via donation (whether on ko-fi, youtube membership, patreon, etc) if you want to, but I am planning to stream a lot more in the future, so you should be able to find a free link at some point.

Do you think Kill la Kill could've benefited from being less horny and over the top, or would it just be more boring?
I mean, the excessive juvenile horniness of the show is definitely a valid reason to dislike it, and not to want to engage with it, but if you get rid of it you basically get rid of its reason to exist.
KLK is about sexuality, shame, body acceptance, coming of age, puberty, and how especially teenagers' bodies are structurally commodified and abused by systems of social control. You kinda can't cut the horny, fucked-up sexual weirdness out of that without fundamentally altering what the thing is.
There's a serious critical discussion to have about building a church with the devil's tools - whether or not the visual language of horny-ass ecchi anime can meaningfully be deployed to tell KLKs story without fatally undercutting it. KLK wants to comment on the commodification and hypersexualization of teenage girls' bodies, but it also very gleefully indulges in those tropes as spectacle, and positions appropriation of them as a form of empowerment, and while I think that on balance it ultimately does work as a story, and I find it compelling, that's also a valid place of criticism, and a valid reason to reject the story or find it distasteful or beyond the pale.

It has come to my attention that it is necessary for someone to decide, with authority and finality, where the songs of Hazbin Hotel should go on a tier list.
Since I am The Song Decider®©™, this duty falls to me, and I am going to spend an entirely normal and reasonable amount of time doing it.
It's sixteen songs, Michael, how long could it possibly take... ?

Hi Mr. Skyen!! I've adored following your passion for One Piece through the chapter panel reviews, its clear how much you know about the topic.
I was wondering if you've ever read Bleach, and if so, what thoughts you have on its artwork/paneling? And if you haven't read it, its a series that comes highly recommended!
Tumblr media
Hrm. I mean, I read Bleach up until... basically until the Arrancar got introduced and Orihime got kidnapped and then I tapped out, the Shonen Battle Manga loop of the story just lost me completely. Most of my affection for and knowledge of Bleach is focused around its scrappier early chapters, back when the story was more of a monster-a-week ghostbusting magical girl story.
Early Bleach had a real ambition towards a kind of stylized mixture of traditional art styles with early 2000s graphic design styles, especially
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The idea seems to have been embodying the clash between the old-fashioned and supernatural (shinigami, death, the afterlife, etc) against a youthful, irreverent, energetic "cool" attitude, which is a big part of its visual charm.
At its worst, the paneling can sometimes get... rather dense and scratchy, with way too many zoom lines and details and dense text boxes and the art style all over the place,
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But also Tite's penchant for the graphic comes WAY the hell through when he wants to create action
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As the series goes on, it smoothes and smoothes more and more as Tite's style gets more and more sleek, and more and more focused on playing with negative space and, in my opinion, starts running in circles both aesthetically and narratively.
But the paneling also gets better and clearer, the action gets more cleanly told, there are improvements, and nobody can match Tite near the end of Bleach for sheer stylized graphical muscle
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I respect the hell out of Bleach's art, even if I really, really don't care for where it went as a story.

Hey Skyen, I was wondering what you thought of the designs Kishimoto had for Kiba Inuzuka from Naruto (both the original and Shippuden), I personally always thought he could've gone further with them considering his clan was supposed to be the one that evolved alongside the Ninja Hounds.
Tumblr media
I may or may not be redesigning him and a few other characters for my own fanfiction but I can't think of anything at the moment due to work stress and exhaustion.
I think I'd have to re-read Naruto fully before having much of an opinion on Inuzuka, or most of the secondary characters, I really don't remember them that well anymore :/

You were NOT kidding, the Going Merry’s sendoff really did hurt…holy shit.
Every time I re-read that bit I'm like "okay I've read this part like nine times I'm not gonna cry this time" and then I cry anyway because good GOD is it built up well

Dungeon Meshi video on the main channel?
hmm... maybe? I think eventually I'll want to talk about it, but like 90% of my thoughts will depend on the way the story ends, and since most people are following the anime at the moment I don't want to make a video that a huge part of the fandom can't watch without getting spoiled :/

Ancestor Spirit | Boss Designs of Elden Ring #9
What does it mean when half the world above worships a corpse-eating tree, demigods use corpses as self-decoration, tombs litter the land and a tribe of ancestor worshipers seem to revere the concept of decay and rot itself? It means we might have a Theme™ on our hands.
Let's discuss.
