“To think I thought you must’ve hated me…”
“My child… I could never.”
When does Volo get to talk to Arceus GF. Nintendo. Pokemon Company. Let him HAVE HIS MOMENT WITH GOD-
ID below cut!
[ID: Four sketchy, non-colored, digital images done in Procreate. They feature Volo, who has long, dark hair, that lightens out at the ends, and parts to the right to cover the (viewers) right side of his face; a squared face; a wide nose; full lips; and a hint of scarring underneath where his hair is covering his face. He’s wearing eye makeup that mirrors the design of Arceus’ eyes. The images of Volo are only chest-up, but he’s wearing a “kimono” and vest reflective of traditional Ainu wear (I unfortunately could not find the proper terms for the clothing), drawn in a way that mirrors the design of Arceus. Arceus is also present, a Pokémon that is goat-like in appearance, but if that goat was a god and had eight eyes and was almost 11 feet tall and it’s head was elongated. Fucked up goat.
The first image is Arceus staring at the viewer, but implied to be staring at Volo off panel. They appear to be crying. They say, “I wouldst never claim to be a perfect deity. Contrarily… Thou art the imperfect creations of an imperfect god. A mere fragment of one greater, with only a fragment of thine’s divine abilities. However…”
The second image is of Volo, looking to Arceus off panel, grief and sadness present in his face. Arceus continues, “… I love each and all of mine creations more deeply than thou might imagine. Thine included, even if thoust does not believe it. … Had I the ability to create my world without suffering, so that mine own creations I adoreth so much need never be troubled… I would have.”
The third image shows both Volo and Arceus. Volo has his head bared down, not looking Arceus in the eye, tears trailing down his face. It’s hard to discern from Arceus, but they appear to be saddened as well. Arceus continues again, “… I love you, Volo. But I have let thou down. Let thine people down… I am sorry. I was… never as strong as thou all believeth me to be… an imperfect god, indeed.”
The final image shows Volo and Arceus again from the same angle, but Arceus is resting their head on Volo’s forehead, their eyes closed. Volo is reaching a hand up to Arceus in a comforting manner, now looking Arceus in the face. Volo says, “Oh creator Arceus… What I wouldn’t give to understand your divine psyche, your doubts and uncertainties that feel so… human. I know them well, my lord… I wish I could ease your fears. Divinity must be a difficult burden to bear…” Arceus responds, “It is a burden I would not wish upon anyone… certainly not thou, who hast been through so much…”
END ID.]
#my art#this is also referencing some hc of mine I’ll expand on in tags lol#volo#pokemon legends arceus#pokemon legends arceus spoilers#?????? kind of???????? jic I suppose#pokemon wielder volo#pokemon volo#arceus#described#so the hc I’m working with is kinda based on the theory that the Arceus we see in the games is just one aspect of the whole creator.#one ‘arm’ I’ve seen it be referred to. where my hc differs is that the original being isn’t actually Arceus. Arceus split off from this-#-original eldritch being and left to create their own universe. particularly because the original being wasn’t a creator -#- it was a devourer. and it’s had many children who have went off to create their own worlds only to have them devoured by their parent#it’s a cycle and one that Arceus is desperately afraid of. they’ve moved their world so many times to avoid the ever reaching-#-limbs of their parent. Arceus loves their world too much; loves their creations too much.#this is why the ultra wormholes and other space-time distorting events occur commonly. Arceus is constantly on the move and sometimes-#-different timelines will interact with one another due to this movement#it’s an incredibly self indulgent hc and is not anywhere supported by canon. I just like messy gods in fiction anbdjsbs#Arceus is not a perfect creator. they couldn’t create a perfect world. but they deeply love their creations anyway.#their creations are a direct reflection of themself in the end. flaws and all. and they refuse to be a destroyer like their parent#probably also ties into Arceus’ great disappointment with Giratina when they betrayed them. to think they could create a child with that-#-same desire to destroy; to devour… it scared them.#anyway LONG TAGS HAVDHSBHS

Giratina's Temple and the Celestica Ruins
aka Giratina/platinum clan theory is back (also sorry for using mspaint lmao)
Tumblr media
So we all know about the Shrouded Ruins, yeah?
(This is the only spoiler warning for Pokemon Legends: Arceus you're gonna get)
Spooky. Ever-cloaked in mists and mystery, surrounded by black-stoned cairns like graves and home to the giant Odd Keystone that once (?) housed 108 souls. Very ghost-centric.
Well what if I told you it was a temple?
Tumblr media
Greco-roman temples (and, problematic or otherwise the celestica are absolutely greco-roman coded) are constructed relatively uniformly, with an outer later of columns holding up the roof and an inner layer holding up an internal structure, providing additional support, ect.
Tumblr media
We have a perfect in-game model to project from, too, in the Temple of Sinnoh (pre-explosion). You can see that some of the smaller columns are sometimes decorative - likely they held up torches or, in the case of the two nearest the 'altar,' offerings
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So knowing that style and having the remaining structures we do see in-game, we can approximate a lay out of what the building may have looked like.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
What makes this a temple, however, is more open to interpretation. My evidence to support that it is is actually the blue-tinged pedestals seen within the outline of the building - the place(s) of honor in any temple. Irl, the inner structure - the cella - was often fully-walled in, though sometimes this was constructed via wood and other materials that don't withstand time.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now, ENORMOUS shout-out to pokemaniacchris and the incredible Crimson Mirelands Archeological Survey Project for a really detailed, in-character breakdown of the ruins structures throughout the mirelands. I can only assume the 'surveyors' hadn't reached Mt. Coronet yet in their explorations.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pedestals like these (at least superficially similar) are found beneath dozens of statues around Mt. Coronet, including beneath Giratina, Palkia and Dialga in the Sacred Plaza area. Now, I know I'm supposed to be claiming that this is a temple to Giratina, but if we work on the assumption that the four pedestals corollate with Giratina, Palkia, Dialga, and Arceus, a new conclusion can, perhaps, be drawn:
That whoever built this temple saw all four of them on the same 'level' of power or -- and this is my hc taking over -- if the statues were placed in a certain orientation (see below) that they saw Arceus and Giratina on equal footing, with Dialga and Palkia one rank below.
Tumblr media
And there is, imo, more evidence to support this disruption of the 'creation trio' into two pairs on equal footing, found in the Celestica Ruins! So, among the structures there are two notable, circular buildings that the Greeks also utilized, called tholoi (plural). Irl, tholoi were a mix of secular-use and small-scale temples, and seeing as these two are small (maybe 10ft across inside?) I would maintain the claim that they're small temples.
And they align/mirror each other just as the statues of Palkia and Dialga do.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This part becomes pure conjecture, but I like to think the smaller structures in the ruins might be other small-scale temples for the various mythicals, honoring each much as the Greeks honored a pantheon.
Tumblr media
Lastly, the CMASP describes the "Gapejaw Bog Complex" as being potentially an entire agora all its own and I can't agree more. Such evidence would support the idea of there being two groups of Celestica (Note: Not the Clans.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I actually found myself wondering if the mirelands weren't always quite so swampy, and instead flooded at some point in the past with the depressions around Gapejaw - left by housing foundations - filled in with swamp water.
At the end of the day, I think there's a lot of evidence that the Celestica revered Giratina as well as Arceus, Dialga and Palkia - at least early on. Something happened to cause this schism, and the Old Verses/Plate inscriptions point to an outburst of rage from Giratina -- though, in "pick a god (and pray)" I actually argue it was mispercieved on the part of the Celestica and this misperception is what caused Arceus to despair and withdraw.
Open to discussion!! fellow nerds please interact!!

Giratina rant
So replaying Platinum and I picked up Legends: Arceus again, and I am in the mood to blabble about Giratina for a bit.
Spoiler warning for those who haven’t played Legends: Arceus - highly recommend it if you want more insight into Sinnoh’s lore. (I’d suggest playing DPPt first to get a feel for Gen 4, Arceus is much more enjoyable if you can pick up on the references!) Or just - spoilers for gen 4 all around, the movies, the games, you name it KJSHG
And this got dangerously long, and will most likely not make any sense skjgh get your tinfoil hats on.
So, the biggest thing about it, is that it was banished for its violence, right. So, it outright states it’s got a very destructive nature. I mean, in PLA it flat-out tore a rift in space-time to strike down Arceus, making some form of pact with Volo during the process, and it didn’t hold back in its fight against the player, either. It being violent is not a secret.
But then I think of the events of Platinum - when it interfered with Cyrus, and more specifically Cynthia’s text in Masters - where she believes Giratina to be a kind soul. Not to mention Laventon’s theory after you catch Giratina, where he states it was no match for the player - and chose to defend the world afterwards, rather than continue to destroy it.
And that makes me think - why would a creature that people see it as the definition of darkness and malice - do acts that are the opposite? Quite a few of these are in the Pokemon movies where it appears - when it helped Ash battle Zero, and help him escape the Reverse World. Or earlier in the movie, where it allowed Pikachu to sit on its horns (crown??) and even Shaymin, who was mortally scared of Giratina, grew fond of it. Not to mention it was surrounded by many Pokemon during the movie - this makes me think that, not only did they know how important Giratina’s duty is in the other world, but they feel okay enough to approach the bloody thing. If this legendary creature really was as violent as researchers describe it - or myths - then I doubt those Pokemon would be willing to step close at all.
Now, does this exactly redeem any past violent actions? Honestly I’d argue no, the damage was done - time doesn’t heal everything, and I imagine after the stories of Giratina being passed down for generations, Giratina might as well be a symbol of destruction, and few people might be willing to see its good sides. (Its certainly got the right appearance of a demon alright, the Asmodeus of Pokemon LOL)
I think its more a case of. Its heart is in the right place, but the way Giratina goes about it is where it gets conflicting. So, I imagine, in general its got a dangerously short fuse - that much was established in the dex entries. But I kind of imagine it to have a very black and white way of thinking. So, instead of seeing things that have both good and bad things - it views them as ‘you’re not a threat’ or ‘you are a minimal threat - but still a threat, and I’m not taking any chances with you’ and more often than not resorts to violent actions.
Heck, in the Sky Warrior movie, Giratina was pretty aggressive with Shaymin, even though it meant no harm and just wanted to break Dialga’s timeloop - it certainly went about it the violent way and tried to trigger it through fear.
You could argue Cyrus’ fate was a merciful one. Forever trapped in a universe with no other living being aside from him and its deity. No real sound, no sunlight, no... nothing. Like being trapped in a completely hollow terrain. His life was spared, but then the idea of being stuck in a completely different world that’s so huge, yet to hollow, is haunting to think about.
Would I call Giratina evil - definitely not. Its not a pure creature either, not by a long-shot. Its very heavily flawed and chaos follows it everywhere, it might as well be the embodiment of it. But after the events of PLA, we see it show many generous acts - if we take the movie (Giratina and the Sky Warrior) - it was very violent starting off, but after Shaymin healed it, and Ash fought alongside it - it stuck with it. It doesn’t forget kind actions. And it remembered that in the Arceus and the Jewel of Life movie, where it finally dropped its grudge with Dialga.
I think its a deity with a very rigid line of thinking, either you’re a threat or you’re not. It’s fully capable of forgiving (Dialga and Palkia after the Rise of Darkrai movie) even when it was hell-bent on fighting them, Dialga especially.
This entire post is me really stretching things like this is Mr Fantastic from the fantastic four, but - listen. I like to imagine Giratina to be a very complicated deity to understand. I don’t think it’s the pure manifestation of evil with no redeeming qualities, but I don’t think it’s a flawless, pure being either. It’s in that chaotic center - so really - I think Giratina, after PLA, does have good intentions, and does want to defend the world - but the way it goes about it is morally questionable, because, as we all know, it is violent by nature.
Now, put on a second tinfoil hat on top of the first one.
And that is what most likely earned its banishment - and that’s what might have caused it to become increasingly violent. Anger is an emotion that often comes out to defend you when you feel like you’re faced with injustice and don’t deserve this. Whatever it was, Giratina might’ve thought the destruction it caused at some point was justified or the lesser evil, done for the greater good.
Arceus didn’t see the devastation as justified at all, and thus banished one of the members of the creation trio. And Giratina became furious - because it thought it did good - it went to drastic lengths to do good. And is now being punished for what it thought was an act of sacrifice to protect the world. (what exactly this ‘destruction event’ was, idk, but if it deserves banishment it had to be nasty - you have pokemon that dissolve others with acid and drink their juices or kidnap children and those weren’t banished JKSHGD)
So this form of ‘injustice’ from Giratina’s POV, might’ve caused it to become vengeful, and increasingly more violent - and this might’ve been what led to its pact with Volo to destroy Arceus, and cause the events of PLA. Giratina, at the time, didn’t think it deserved this punishment. Perhaps only after the player in PLA defeated it, both at the Temple of Sinnoh and in Turnback Cave - it might’ve started considering that perhaps - perhaps - it was a suitable punishment after all.
And perhaps, after... maybe decades - centuries, even - of fury, grief, hatred and isolation, it did in fact, earn the title of ‘renegade’ and it was better off in its own universe - only allowed to interact with the real world under very specific circumstances. (Mostly when some form of ‘glitch’ happens between dimensions, either because of Cyrus, or Volo).
It’s a very chaotic being, both in terms of its actions and in terms of understanding it, and Giratina is aware of it - and I imagine it often struggles to understand itself.

Cube's Big-Ass Pokemon Conspiracy Theory
Warning: this is a LONG post, so buckle in
KINDA SPOILERS AHEAD FOR THE SCARLET VIOLET DLC
OKAY
So what's this whole conspiracy theory about, you may be asking?
Simple!
It's one of two answers:
1. There's gonna be an antagonist that is responsible for a large portion of plot points in the games
OR
2. There's a phenomenon that's responsible for a lot of the plot points in the games
Let me be clear and say that there's no proof that any of this is actually feasible or realistic, but there's too many correlations for me to not point them out.
Let's start with the plot point that made me start thinking about all this.
Part 1: Amnesiacs
While this is what got me on the trail of something bigger going on, I don't entirely feel like this has much credence to a background plot. Nevertheless, it's happened enough that it needs to be mentioned.
Every few games or so, there has been a character that has appeared in a region that was not their home with their memories lost.
The three main examples of this are Looker in Hoenn, Anabel in Alola, and Ingo in Hisui.
Interestingly, all three of them share something in common, being that the implied method that they got there was through some sort of portal (Hoopa Ring, Ultra Wormhole, and Space Time Distortion, respectively).
With the possibility of an exception with Looker, seeing as we don't know much about his background, none of them were given any sort of mention of regaining their memories (Ingo only got flashes of his, and Anabel didn't seem to remember much at all).
Three times seems to imply something other than coincidence, but it's not provable and very well may just be a reused plot beat.
The next part, however, seems more likely to be connected in some way.
Part 2: Crystals, Light, and Transformation
Ever since Gen 6, Pokemon has made a point of including crystals and light into every gimmick they've added to game pairs, with transformation being a consistent aspect of the gimmicks as well.
The list is as follows:
Mega Evolution (Crystal: Mega Stones, Transformation: Mega Evolution)
Z-Moves (Crystal: Z-Crystals, Light: Mentioned energy used for Z-Moves)
Dynamax (Crystal: Wishing Stars, Light: Dynamax energy, Transformation: Gigantimax)
Terastallization (Crystal: Tera Crystals, Light: Tera Energy, Transformation: Terastallization)
In addition, multiple Legendaries were made to use light and/or crystals to, you guessed it, transform! They even retconned some Legendaries to be able to do it as well!
Groudon/Kyogre (Primal form through Orbs, which are visibly crystal)
Dialga/Palkia/Giratina (Needs their crystals to turn into Origin Form)
Solgaleo/Lunala/Necrozma (Necrozma transforms using light to merge with the other two, but needs its Z-Crystal to turn into Ultra Necrozma)
Eternatus (Its energy transforms pokemon around it into their Dynamax forms, and it has a Gigantimax form itself)
Koraidon/Miraidon (Created from the time machine through the use of Tera Energy from the crystals in Area Zero)
Ogerpon (Special Tera form, which uses light and crystals)
Terapagos (Do I even need to say anything with this one? It's a crystal turtle that uses light to transform.)
There could even be an argument for the Unova and Kalos legendaries, with the stone versions of the dragons, and the energy used by the very much crystalline Ultimate Weapon.
Even Pokemon Masters has the Sync Stones, which are rare, shining crystals that increase the power of a trainer's bond with their Pokemon.
It could just be that Game Freak and Nintendo like their crystals and transformations, but it's strange that they've kept using it for so long and so consistently!
Again, I could still be reading too much into it, but I just can't stop thinking about it.
To wrap things up, let's get into some hypotheticals.
Part 3: Speculation
This is more of a place for me to make shaky connections and ramble about my predictions on where Pokemon's gonna go next.
First of all, Legends Arceus has something about it's plot that bugs me. How did Volo and Giratina rip open space time? Giratina has NEVER been shown to have that sort of power, let alone the power to mess with its siblings to the point of driving them mad. It's said to have a quarrel only with humanity, and it actively came to Dialga and Palkia's aid in Platinum, so why do it in the first place? It seems a bit out of character.
And why did Arceus not give the player or Ingo a way back home? There could have at least been a cutscene or dialogue line or SOMETHING, but as far as we're aware, they're still stuck in the past, which is frankly awful.
Another question is where the hell did the AI professors go in SV? The time machine was never a time machine, that much is certain. It was basically an AI image generator, but for Pokemon, so there's no way that it could transport the professors through time, could it?
Lastly, something that's always bugged me is the fact that Arceus is the Alpha Pokemon. That implies there's an Omega Pokemon, right? You'd think that it might be Giratina, but nope! That's the Renegade Pokemon! So what the hell is the Omega Pokemon, if we'll ever get it? I will say that ORAS kinda messed with that, but Arceus is still the Alpha Pokemon, so eh? I'm just curious if they'll ever do anything with that. Maybe it's behind some of the odd phenomena in the games? There's certainly enough unsolved mysteries in those games.
That's about it! If you read this far, thanks for indulging me in my madness! I'm very much mentally ill about the silly monster games, and I demand answers that I'll likely never get, which is how I come up with this stuff lol.
Have a great day!

I have a semi-plausible theory about the next pokemon games to come out. **spoiler warning.
Its January 4th, 2024 when writing this.
So with the release of the 2nd wave of DLC for scarlet and violet, we are given 4 new paradox pokemon.
Raging Bolt (Past Raikou)
Gouging Fire (Past Entei)
Iron Crown (Future Cobalion)
Iron Boulder (Future Terrakion)
If you are familiar with the pokemon lore, especially the legendary beasts, you would know that three pokemon were incinerated in Ecruteak City's Brass tower and later revived by Ho-Oh. Originally it was believed to be the first three eeveelutions (Flareon, Vaporeon, Jolteon). But with the paradox forms we can assume that these were the pokemon that were revived.
This creates some history for the new two but what about the others? Iron Crown and Iron Boulder (And Iron leaves ig idk)
The robotic enhancements are cool idea, but why? We have no story for them, they are legendary paradox pokemon.
I think the next games are going to be far future versions of Unova. "Pokemon: Cyber-Kyurem"
..or something.
I mainly believe this because of one silly little pokemon: Genesect.
In the it's lore it was a fossil that was revived and then given robotic enhancements by team plasma. Thats what I believe to be the case for the Paradox Swords of Justice in the game "Cyber-Kyurem"
Theres lots of rumors of "Legends kyurem" and the ancient dragon (reshiram+zekrom+kyurem) circulating/circulated. My hypothesis is in direct contrast and i have a further reason.
Legends arceus dealt with the past, and then scarlet and violets dynamic was past and future, so it would make sense for the next game to be in the future.
If the swords of justice were fossilized over a LONG PERIOD OF TIME and then revived and cyber enhanced or whatever.

Okay, so I realized I haven't done a review of the Hisuian Snow episodes yet (which, spoiler alert, I think are really adorable) and I will do them soon. But for now, I wanted to focus on one part of the episode: the medicinal leek. I've always been curious about how the healing items in the Pokemon world and how they're able to heal. For the longest time, I thought that the modern potions we get in non-legends mainline games were just marvels of modern pharmacology. But then comes Legends, with probably my favorite mechanic in the game, crafting and foraging. And then, with this second Hisuian Snow Episode, we get to see exactly how the leek works. By squeezing some of the liquid from the inner portion, the shiny Hisuian Zorua was able to help Alec's sprain heal instantly. That's amazing, and honestly, I wish we had something like that in real life. Also, that debunked my original theory of the potions being a modern marvel of pharmaceuticals but just the fact that even the non-Pokemon plant life has special properties. This checks out when you consider the copious amount of berries and their effects in the games. Yet Legends Arceus does pose some limitations. As we see in-game, there's a whole medical corp that often contains people who were seriously maimed by the wild Pokemon. So there's obviously a limit to what things like the berries and leeks could heal both in humans and Pokemon. We've even seen massive injuries in Pokemon, like Ash's Pikachu having to be defibrillated or his entire DP team being bandaged up long after the Paul battle at Lake Acuity. Even in the Yellow chapter of Pokespe, Pika is badly injured getting back to Oak's lab, where it surely passed by berry trees. Even if we can assume Pika did consume an oran berry here and there, it still wasn't enough to heal everything. So it definitely begs the question of where the line is drawn between what can be healed by leeks, herbs and berries and where more modern medical advances need to be brought in to save the lives of both people and Pokemon

My personal theory for why Arceus would send the DPPT protagonist in particular to the past was because they saw them deal with Dialga/Palkia/Giratina and just figured “Well you know how to deal with this, you can do it again.”

My #1 post of 2022
I think the best way to look at Volo (and why I find him so funny) is that he's just some fucking dude.
He has no really defined backstory besides working retail and the implication he's seen some shit (which no shit he's in retail). He calls you his favorite customer when you can't even buy shit from him until the endgame. His main pokemon is an egg. There's a picture with him and said egg prominently displayed outside the photo studio.
He periodically shows up at random points just to remind you he exists. He finds you in exile and just happens to know the woman who can fix the situation. It is then that you are allowed to buy stuff from him. You're his favorite customer.
He tried to collect the type plates for Arceus knows how long and you just fall out of the sky and end up with 10 of them without even trying. You get the rest in probably less time than it took for him to research them. The exposition lady he just happens to know was using one of them as a cutting board. If I was in his situation I'd go insane too.
Once he's done trying to kill you he just leaves. He admits he got pokemon satan to isakai you and just goes. If he just chilled and didn't attempt to kill you he could've just given you the sidequest "Help Volo Meet God" and none of this would have needed to happen.
He has a themed toga under his clothes. I love this man.

MASSIVE scarlet violet spoilers under the cut but i have a lore question so
as of Legends Arceus confirming once and for all that pokemon shrink into tiny size in order to fit in pokeballs and when you make a pokemon faint they are shrinking into their tiny undetectable size which is why you gotta weaken them and not let them faint when trying to catch them because a wild pokemon cannot be that tiny size in order for a pokeball to catch them. and when your pokemon faint, you recall them BEFORE their "become tiny and small" reflex can kick in.
ASSUMING that's canon lore (idk how else to interpret this? correct me if i am wrong) i also assume that 1. pokemon can obviously die for real, the games have proven that multiple times, and i am going to assume that dead pokemon return to normal size and that pokemon hunting other pokemon or humans slaughtering other pokemon for food (again, i'm sorry, but this is canon to the universe) need to kill the pokemon in one hit in order to avoid the become small reflex, otherwise it's probably a pain in the ass to find your miniscule unconscious prey in the tall grass or whatever. (side note, as of SV, is tall grass not a thing anymore? iirc you can use tall grass to sneak though so i think it's still a thing. don't answer this its not that important i'm digressing)
so my ACTUAL question now (and this is where the spoilers start!) becomes: in the final final final battle between your box legend and the aggressive one that the professor brought back to the present, when you defeat the aggressive one, and it faints, it does NOT shrink into nothingness. However, it is not dead, because you can come back later and catch it.
i really don't think this is gameplay and story segregation plus nonlethal ko, because multiple games now have emphasized the pokemon reflex to shrink in size thing. i am pretty convinced that this is official canon lore (unless someone out there has more compelling evidence?) so then:
Did Gamefreak just...not have time/forget to animate the other box legend shrinking properly and this is yet another of the game's jank?
Are they retconning what counts for gameplay and story segregation after all these years now?
Did the box legend actually die and then get better somehow off screen?
Some other option not considered?
I wanna hear your theories because this has me stumped and is throwing a major wrench in how i write fanfic for this universe. note that i do not consider the anime canon btw. i am talking about the core games only.

Can we talk about this bitch for a moment?
ALSO LEGENDS ARCEUS SPOILERS FOR LIKE, THE WHOLE GAME.
Volo I think is a lot more complex than people give him credit for. Like the twist reveal of him as the one who not only opened the rift but also is now trying to destroy the world is amazing but a lot of people took that and just turned it into "this man is 100% a bastard" and I don't think it does.
Gamefreak does this thing with their villains where if they want us to know the villain is "wrong" but still has some good parts they give him a crobat. Why? Because you can only get one if you are kind to your pokemon. Its a friendship evolution. This started with your rival Silver in gen 2 who only gets his crobat when he learns his pokemon are his friends not tools. For an example of a villain who doesn't have a crobat look at Ghetsis who is a complete asshole with absolutely not redemptive qualities. But villains like Archie, Maxie and even Cyrus to an extent have crobats because they think what they are doing is right and just want to help in one way or another.
But what does this have to do with Volo? Volo doesn't use a crobat.
Volo instead uses Cynthia's team which has THREE FRIENDSHIP EVOLUTIONS. Not to mention while Cynthia's ace is garchomp, Volo's is Togakiss. Why is this important? Togakiss's line focuses on only wanting to be around happy people and bring happiness to others. This man loves and cares deeply about his pokemon.
Also Volo mentions his motivation for his actions. Its vague but we can do some theory crafting. He mentions that he has witnessed some pretty horrible things in his life. He talks about pain and suffering. His wants a world without pain and suffering. Now Cyrus had the same motivation but I think he and Volo would execute remaking the world in different ways because of how each of these men are portrayed. Cyrus pretty much wanted a void with no emotions. The distortion world is probably close to what he wanted.
I think Volo wanted to make a paradise. He wants a world were people and pokemon can be happy. This man doesn't want to destroy the world because he doesn't care about it, he wants to destroy it because he cares TOO MUCH. And he can't handle it.
There is a tragic desperation to Volo. A man who wants so desperately to stop his own and others' suffering he would remake the universe.
I have more thoughts about this but I'm gonna stop for now.

There’s More Evidence That Ingo’s Going Home Than Not
This is what I think, backed up by in-game evidence.
Also, let me preface this by saying that this is for those of us who want reassurance. I ask that you do not reblog this and add your theories that he won’t go home, and absolutely do not DM me your theories or headcanons as to why he won’t. I’m not interested in them, especially not from people I don’t know, and I will block you if you do this.  I’m serious about this because my friend and roommate, 1863-project, made a post seeking reassurance and asking for spoilers confirming he went home, if they existed, when it leaked a few weeks ago that Ingo would be in Legends: Arceus the way he is. Instead she had strangers DMing her their theories without asking, which was rude and the exact opposite of what she’d asked for. Submas has helped both of us in different ways; neither of us wants to see Ingo trapped in Hisui. Spoilers start here.
First and foremost, this is a children’s game. Yes, it’s made so anyone of any age can enjoy it, but the lowest common denominator is kids whose age is a single digit. While there have been some darker moments, or even possible or actual character deaths, these happen off-screen, and almost always to the villain, or it happens to someone in the past we hadn’t met (think of the girl in B2W2 in the Strange House, or Cubone’s mom in Gen 1). The likelihood of them deciding to inflict permanent tragedy on Ingo, who is someone many players have met before and doesn’t deserve it, is low.
Factor in that Submas is incredibly popular, especially in Japan. 1863-project has covered this topic if you aren’t aware. They’ve gotten a decent amount of merch compared to a lot of other characters and certainly the other battle facilities, and the Battle Subway has been referenced in later games. Permanently splitting them up would be bad for the series.
A recent 2022 poll for the top BGM in PokeMas has had the Subway Boss/Gear Station theme leading. As of the time of this post, polling is still open, but given Submas’ original popularity in Japan and newfound popularity post-PLA, you pretty much know how this is going to go the Subway Boss/Gear Station theme won! Leaving Ingo in Hisui would clearly upset a large group within Pokemon’s fanbase.
Unova is next up for revisiting, whether that’s remakes, sequels, or a sequel/prequel like Legends: Arceus turned out to be. Ingo’s appearance in Hisui may simply be a hint at what is next to come (definitely Unova, maybe…a Submas-centric Legends? We can hope.) Given their popularity, it would be detrimental to have a game that revisits Unova only for fans to find out Ingo was left in the past and Emmet is devastated, or to just leave Submas out entirely.
Design-wise, Ingo and Emmet are a set. Of course they’re identical twins, but they have opposite facial expressions, opposite dominant hands, their names are derived from opposite directions (in English; in Japanese they are literally named “inbound” and “outbound”), opposite color clothes playing into the titles of the games they debuted in…It’s not entirely clear why they decided to send only Ingo to Hisui, but permanently splitting them up is bad from a design point as well.
Going along with this, Ingo and Emmet’s opposite visual designs play right into Gen 5′s themes of opposites, yin and yang, etc. Not returning Ingo to Unova, or having him be drastically altered from his Gen 5 design would destroy what are arguably the biggest visual representation of these themes outside of the box Legendaries (Reshiram and Zekrom), especially when they revisit Unova.
The amount of time and focus on Ingo in Legends: Arceus is HUGE. We don’t get to spend nearly as much time with the other wardens, and in Wayward Cave, the player doesn’t have the option of speeding through Ingo’s dialogue, or doing anything other than following him and hearing what he has to say. It’s essentially a playable cutscene. They wanted the player to know that Ingo remembers Chandelure and Emmet, even if he can’t remember the details. He’s also aware that he’s not from Hisui, but rather “another world”. Later he also remembers Pokemon trainers and battling, both concepts foreign to Hisui, where people are just learning how to be friends with Pokemon. The Gear Station theme even plays at the moment he talks about remembering this, a huge signal that he’s…starting to get…back on track (I am not sorry). He also never forgot the train stuff, despite Hisui not having trains yet, and he kept most of his subway uniform, likely due to the familiarity. Other characters that have experienced amnesia and/or removal from their original situation typically don’t remember anything and become someone else. Ingo is still there, even if he’s struggling to remember.
He’s also making no attempt to assimilate into the Pearl Clan or Hisui as a whole. The Pearl Clan took him in, was impressed by his abilities and trusted him enough to make him Sneasler’s warden, but that doesn’t go both ways. Again, he kept most of his original clothes rather than commit to the whole Pearl Clan look. We never hear him talk about “Almighty Sinnoh”, or even refer to Sneasler as “my Lady”. He does refer to her as “Lady Sneasler”, despite the fact that the Ride Nobles do not get the titles that the others do; this is likely just a mistranslation/general error. But it could also be a hint that he hasn’t assimilated, that despite being made a Warden, he hasn’t learned the finer details. He may also be giving Sneasler a title out of respect, but still, she’s never “his” Lady. How much does he truly serve her? How serious does he take the position when compared to, say, Lian, who not only will infodump on how great Kleavor is, but refers to Kleavor as “my Lord” often? Ingo could also be using a title as he has a very formal way of speaking, but he always has (this is especially evident in Japanese); he’s not picking up on local language here or in general. We meet him while going up Mt. Coronet, but the only other place we see him is Jubilife Village, which is interesting not only because most of the other wardens just disappear when they’re not relevant to the plot, being rematched, in the photo studio (or cutting your hair), but it seems to suggest Ingo is staying somewhere he’s comfortable—a city! Even though Jubilife is a village, it’s rapidly growing, and is the most densely populated area in Hisui. And whereas Arezu was concerned about running the hair salon conflicting with her warden duties to Liligant, Ingo never mentions Sneasler again. He starts running a battle facility at the training grounds and apparently never looks back.
Did Ingo even ever go to the Pearl Clan Settlement in the Alabaster Icelands? One NPC there mentions how good he is with Pokemon and the same NPC wonders where he came from during the postgame, but this could likely be to keep him on the player’s mind if they plan on doing more with Ingo/Submas in a future game. It would be interesting to find out that he never went there, or that he did and didn’t want to stay due to it being frozen and emptyIngo’s team’s weaknesses lean heavily towards Ice (and Water) in 5th Gen. You can’t tell me he wasn’t sick of everyone who ever made it to him freezing the entire car with their Beartics and Vanilluxes. He also seems to be, at most, acquaintances with the rest of the Pearl Clan, suggesting he did not spent much time with them. Even Irida doesn’t seem too familiar with him; all she knows is that he showed up one day, has no memory of where he came from, and is good with Pokemon. That’s all anyone seems to know about him. He doesn’t seem to be making close friendships with people in Hisui.
Which leads to…Ingo is clearly unhappy. Visibly, he’s slouching, has bags under his eyes, and always looks zoned out. Despite his dialogue being very positive, it’s clear not knowing where he is, why he’s here, and not remembering his past are keeping him up at night and taking a toll. Contrast Anabel from Emerald, who reappears in SM/USUM, having lost her memories; she has her Pokemon with her and though she can’t recall her past, seems happier. Ingo doesn’t have his original team, and seems very unhappy. Personally I think if they wanted to leave him in Hisui, they would have showed him happier and assimilating into life there, heck, they probably would have thrown in Emmet and their Pokemon too! It just seems cruel to leave him alone and unhappy, and looking at Pokemon as a series overall, I can’t imagine this is the story they want to tell.
The moments he really seems himself are when battling the player, and he seems happiest when defeated, even saying his exact lines from 5th Gen and smiling. He also recites Emmet’s lines at times, further showing that he hasn’t truly forgotten Emmet nor his past.
Interestingly, NPCs will turn to look at the player, as well as turn and acknowledge any Pokemon you send out at them (specifically at them; you’ll know this happens when your Pokemon comes out, makes a noise and gesture at the NPC, then goes right back into the ball). But after Mt. Coronet, Ingo only acknowledges Pokemon, unless you actually talk to him. It almost seems like he’s zoned out or being detached, like he expects to go back any time and doesn’t want to get too invested in Hisui. This has been fixed as of the content update for Pokemon Day, but it’s still a little odd because he was the only character that did this, making me wonder if it was intentional, or just somehow Ingo was the only NPC that the developers didn’t catch. In any case they must have listened to all the people pointing it out, so here’s hoping they’re listening that people want to see Ingo and Dawn/Lucas go back to their proper time and place intact!
He also mentions not knowing what his purpose in Hisui is. It’s a little odd considering Arceus likely hand-picked him for something the way it picked Dawn/Lucas, yet Dawn/Lucas is directly given a mission with the info stored in their phone. I’m not sure why Ingo would not be directly told what to do. Maybe he didn’t have the latest phone and Arceus didn’t think his old one was cool enough? Who knows. Arceus works in mysterious ways. However, while Dawn/Lucas is told to complete a full PokeDex, in the process they’re teaching the people of Hisui how to befriend and live alongside Pokemon. Ingo is part of that too, but Arceus could have pulled nearly anyone to do that. Dawn/Lucas was likely sent back due to having completed Sinnoh’s PokeDex before and having dealt with a crisis involving Sinnoh’s legendaries. Ingo is one of the best trainers of his time, and possibly of all time if Arceus sent him to Hisui. He’s most likely there to teach the people of Hisui how to battle. A few NPCs mention battling happening in other regions, but it isn’t happening in Hisui yet. Very few people have Pokemon, and even less use them for battles. The few people you do battle often send out two or three Pokemon at a time, which take multiple turns, while the player can only send out one and is usually waiting unless they can outspeed multiple Pokemon. Rules for battles don’t seem to exist yet; someone had to go back and help Hisui out. (Not sure why doubles wasn’t deemed necessary yet—from a developer standpoint, it might have been too much to implement in a game trying out a completely different format for the series. It also seems like they haven’t made doubles as serious as it used to be in battle facilities for a few Gens.)
The “Thanks for Adventuring” picture includes nearly every major character, and every warden except Ingo. It’s a bit odd considering how much time was spent with him, and the sort of kinship between him and the player due to both not being from this world and having little to no memory, and the fact that he hangs around the training grounds after the Coronet Highlands missions. It seems to suggest that he fulfilled his purpose in Hisui in teaching people how to battle and was sent home. He may have done this before Dawn/Lucas finished the entire Dex, or maybe Dawn/Lucas is there because besides not wanting to omit the player from their own ending, by catching Arceus, they can go home whenever they’re ready to.
During the Daybreak Mission, Ingo does not get a callback as a warden. All of the other wardens show up at some point during the mission itself. Ingo is only seen after, when Kamado tells the player about new battle styles he wants them to try (that he had Ingo create). It seems the focus of the game is off Ingo as a warden, and while he still might have Sneasler’s bracelet, he’s basically gone from warden to running a battle facility. Considering that’s what he normally does in 5th Gen, and his character arc has taken this direction, it could be a sign that he’s going to go back.
Ingo’s current jobs in Hisui are becoming unnecessary, as well as not necessary for him specifically to do. A Diamond Clan member in the Diamond Clan Settlement mentions postgame that once people start living with Pokemon, they won’t have need for the Nobles’ protection, and we know from D/P/Pt/BDSP that Ride Pokemon are unnecessary in Sinnoh due to the HMs...or friendly Pokemon assisting (BDSP). Ingo seems to have left the Coronet Highlands and never looked back, but it seems that soon Sneasler’s services can be provided by other Pokemon. The Clans are coming together, people are starting to live alongside Pokemon, Hisui is rapidly changing, and the time of Wardens and honoring the Nobles as Pokemon who uniquely aid humans is coming to a close. Ingo may also be teaching people how to battle at the Training Grounds, but it’s a bit odd to think he needs to spend the rest of his life there doing so. After all, it’s Zisu who truly runs the Training Grounds and is the one who wants to start a school there (I have a post about that here). Ingo can teach someone all that he knows and have them take over. Interest in battling is rapidly growing and Kamado, Beni, Zisu, and most, if not all of the Security Corps already knew the basics. Ingo also began to remember a bit more once he started battling there, seeming to be leading up to him returning to present-day Unova. Should he go home, someone else should be able to step in where he left off.
Cogita refers to the player as “lost one”. Presumably this is due to the player character being sort of “lost” in time and space; they’re from present-day Sinnoh but have been sent to the past, and have amnesia (level of which is debatable and they seem to remember more as the game progresses). This is nearly identical to Ingo. So far we have not seen Cogita and Ingo interact, nor Cogita mention Ingo at all. But calling the player character “lost one” seems to imply that sometime later they will not be “lost” (sent home). And if the player character can go home, why can’t another character who is lost in the same way?
Regarding him still being around postgame, and, this is my opinion; I feel that the postgame isn’t really canon. Catching Arceus is the last thing you have to do, and can only happen with a complete PokeDex. People really wouldn’t like if they caught Arceus and the game stopped being playable. Postgame is likely a kind of limbo where you can complete any sidequests still unfinished, have rematches at the training ground, hunt for shinies, etc. This is fairly common with games as a whole (my other favorite series, Legend of Zelda does it by never saving after Ganon, or whichever other villain is defeated, perpetually leaving the player at the moment before, but free to finish anything else or mess around).
The Pokemon timeline is a little weird, with a few games being considered non-canon/AUs, but if Dawn/Lucas were around 12 during the events of D/P/Pt/BDSP, and they’re 15 in Legends: Arceus (as stated by Cyllene), and there’s several years between events in 4th Gen and 5th Gen, this could mean that Ingo was sent back to Hisui before the events of 5th Gen, in turn meaning he would have to be sent back. This is further suggested by Caitlin, who was 14 in Platinum, and is an adult as an Elite Four member in Unova. There’s easily at least four years, probably more, between 4th and 5th Gen; plenty of time for Legends: Arceus to take place between them.
Edit November 12th, 2023:
The Teal Mask DLC for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet features Perrin, a descendant of Adaman who has the player track down and capture a unique Ursaluna known as the Bloodmoon Ursaluna. When the sidequest is complete, she gives the player a Hisuian Growlithe, separating him from his older brother. Her dialog is a bit interesting: “But you know, Growlithe like these are known for living and working together in pairs. Even if they are separated for a while, I bet their paths might just cross again someday...so you raise that one with care in the meantime!” Now who does that sound like? Brothers working in pairs, being separated, but meeting again? It could just be a hint that Ingo and Emmet will be reunited, if they haven’t been already at the point in the timeline in which Scarlet and Violet take place. The devs have to be well-aware that many fans did not enjoy Ingo’s inclusion in PLA; if you check the official Pokemon...Twitter? account, most, if not all tweets related to PLA had many subtweets of people asking if Ingo would go home. Everyone is also likely aware that there have been issues behind the scenes which probably factored in to why PLA felt incomplete and never got a DLC; it’s likely if things had been kinder to the devs, we would have seen him (and Dawn/Lucas) go home, and this may be a hint that we can expect him to be perfectly fine in a future game set in Unova, or a hint at something to come.
I hope this provides some reassurance.

That- mandatory long post and “POKEMON LEGENDS ARCEUS SPOILER” alert
Okay so look, recently on the weird mess of a dashboard I have as my tumblr I’ve been seeing different interpretations of the possible reason as to why Ingo’s present in PLA story-wise.
First I heard that it was Arceus’s fault (which came to the influx of god bullying and abuse) then I heard it was “discount-Cynthia”s fault (which then led to literal man bullying and abuse) but then I saw an ask on @nartothelar ‘s blogs (side note: if you haven’t heard of them or have seen them in passing and are a submas enjoyer I highly recommend checking them out if you haven’t already. Their art’s immaculate and it gives me life on a daily basis) mentioning how because Volo’s rift wasn’t the one Ingo came out of, he isn’t a lead to reasoning why Ingo’s there (he’s innocent).
Which follows to my confusion of whether or not we have some- if any evidence to prove any type of theory as to how ingo miraculously appeared in Hisui. Post game claims it’s not Arceus, timeline claims it’s not volo- I can’t think of any other solid reason ingo would be eeby deebied to Hisui if it wasn’t from some other legendary or something. Perhaps an organization was doing something in the battle subway and ingo got caught in the crossfire somehow.
I’m currently subscribed to the theory that the guy in the zorua trailer is ingo (which would imply that it is technically Arceus’s fault that ingo’s there- with the strange device either being an arc phone of his own or just his normal phone and the memory loss is just slowly kicking in) I think it’s a funny concept to play with and I like thinking about how there’s a possibility that it might have been consensual or even planned for this to happen. There might be a chance that ingo is from a future a bit farther from the present black and white variants we’ve seen!
Any thoughts on this would be much appreciated- you entities on tumblr seem to either know everything about a subject, or make up enough bullshit until it becomes the communities common knowledge. Both are things I’d love to see and indulge in.

"Lightning over the sea"
Pokemon Legends: Arceus and Pacific Rim crossover
in progress; title from 'visualized convo in the drift' by Travis Beacham
CWs: age-adjusted Volokari, death mention
Kaiju groupie Science major!Volo and Drift Psych major!Akari
(junior year and sophomore respectively - pre-academy university)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pre-movie events, in the years between Jaeger conception and investment in the kaiju-wall
Akari is researching the idea of developing Drift compatibility, rather than only having pilots with innate compatibility, and needs a test subject ("stranger" despite being dormmates, for a baseline reading); doesn't expect to find they're actually mid-to-high range compatible
Volo is on cryptozoology (k-rypto?) track, riding the line between bio-enviroscience of Kaiju Blue and the (conspiracy) theory of connection between kaiju and dinosaurs
During the drift/Pons system test, there's a bit of back and forth (conquering the 'modesty instinct' and learning each other's mental vocab), until Volo chases the RABIT
Latches onto Akari's memory of the death of her parents (by Kaiju blue poisoning) and after she's forced to relive it she breaks out of the drift and leaves before he can apologize
When the results intrigue professors and catch the attention of the Defense Corps, however, she comes back and presses him into continuing the study; they've been told to "make it work"
Forging steel metaphor
Akari's parents were friends and corps members alongside (now Marshal) Kamado; after finding they were Drift incompatible, they separated and perished when one was trapped and the other tried to rescue them
She's taken as a ward to Kamado, but largely reared by Cyllene (who is Conn-Podd Control Officer under Kamado), who taught her about swordsmanship and coached her in kendo, inspiring her interest in Drift psych
Yet when she learns of how her parents died, she refuses to share in the belief that the vague concept of "love" is the secret to jaeger pilot success. Specifically, she thinks that deeply loving relationships find themselves incompatible and break up because of it, but the lack of compatibility doesnt mean any relationship is less loving than another; wants to prove that it's largely simple neurochemistry -- that it's really a matter of understanding and trust
(spoiler, girlie: that's the same thing as love)
Still, she's authentically invested because if compatibility can be "forged" it could mean creating more pilots to join the fight, replacing the exhausted, the dead, and the ones dying of radiation poisoning
This is all learned beat-by-beat, drift-session by drift-session, and eventually Volo asks why she isn't on the Jaeger Academy track (meaning she'd land directly in a Shatterdome team)
She claims at first it's to try and make Drift-tech more widely available, to help the civilian populace; eventually, relents to the truth that she would always be in Kamado's shadow -- and under his thumb
This prompts Volo to share that his (twin?) sister is Cynthia --
"Wait," Akari gasps, cracking her head on the arm of the pons' metal support frame, "the Saint of the Sevii Islands?"
"That would be her," he responds, smirk wry yet his quicksilver gaze dulled to something stormy.
Cynthia, the youngest ever Marshal, stationed now in Kanto to support the entire southern arm of the Pan-Pacific defense; renowned for the weeks-long deployment that saw her Jaeger-hopping to protect the Sevii isles; Drift-compatible with any number of people, without a kill-less airdrop to date.
"So he understands something about being in another's shadow."
That's... about all for plot, right now
PLAN is for a lengthy one-shot, intimate but not necessarily smutty; not going to be tackling jaeger/kaiju fights -- this is just a lowkey, hyperspecific university AU lol
HOWEVER
you knoooooow your girl has some Hot, Zesty Bits to work in so:
Pokemon:
still there babes, everyone's got the expected partners/aces; battling has lulled on pacific coast, but perfectly normal around the rest of the world
(this will map pkmn world directly onto ours; also maaayybe touch on the potential culture-clash/resentment of regions not near the pacific)
Characters:
Dorm mates
#1: Volo and Rei, Akari and Tuli
#2: Adaman and Melli, Irida and Arezu
Volo and Tuli are junior K-sci majors; Rei and Akari are sophomore Drift psych
Melli is jaeger tech, engineer (junior year); Arezu is jaeger tech, neural-bridge ops (junior)
Irida is a senior LOCCENT command track; guaranteed to advance to academy, the primary track for Marshals
Adaman is a senior Assault Specialist command track; guaranteed advance, the secondary track for Marshals
University faculty:
Laventon, K-science professor
Zisu, fightmaster (tests for compatibility markers; esoteric approach compared to hard psych, but fast and reliable)
Cogita, psych analyst professor, 'guru' archetype
PPDC officers:
Marshal Kamado, commander of the Jubilife City Shatterdome; old military, never piloted a jaeger and doesn't have great respect for the practice; only cares for results
Captain Cyllene, Conn-pod Control, preps cadets and pilots for missions as well as administers simulation tests for compatibility
Cynthia, Marshal of the Saffron City Shatterdome
Gaeric and Calaba, Jumphawk pilots; bit parts, but picture Calaba as a Disney Atlantis' Packard type
JAEGER PILOTS
Cynthia, compatible with anyone; frequents Lance's Garchomp jaeger, but also joins Diantha, Alder, Steven Stone; prior to being a Marshal, she had piloted with Cyrus.... vaguely dark backstory for him
Palina and Iscan, pilots in a rare romantic pairing, pilot a ??? jaeger in sinnoh region
alright you waited long enough
INGO AND EMMET, the Subway (Boss?) Saviors; transplants from Unova, a neutral party to the clash between Kamado and Cynthia and under a lot of pressure to perform at peak capacity
(possible future-pilots: Adaman and Irida)
JAEGERS!!!
Largely, but not solely, modeled and named after regional Legendaries
submas -- a blend of Reshiram and Zekrom; possible Kyurem that remains in Unova
Sinnoh -- dialga and palkia; university programs are named after the Lake Guardians
Kanto -- birthplace of jaeger program, nicknamed the MEW Stratagem; Zapdos, Moltres, Articuno w/ corollary abilities
ALOLA -- jaegers are modeled on Solgaleo and Lunala, but the Tapu are prominent participants in battles, as well as warning system
speaking of legendaries, I suspect Kyogre/Groudon/Rayquaza, the actual legendary birds + Lugia, ect., would Not be Cool w/ kaiju invaders 👀
anyway uhhhh
Fin
Tumblr media
and because im a whore for attention imma tag @quicksilverlightning and @moody-boobs and @fl0werseller and perhaps @salsa-di-pomodoro
oh and @volostan-off (hmu if you're not the one i talked to in Vnation discord?)
lastly, im posting this as a precursor to a fic so i have it all in one place when i get around to writing it proper

Okay, so spoilers for Legends Arceus postgame below the... did the mobile app get rid of readmores? Gross! Hope this works:
So, ive seen it claimed on the tvtropes page for Legends arceus that Rei/Akari are called pokemon trainers, and Volos called a pokemon wielder because he's the villan. And the logics good, but its not true. Heres how!
Rei and Akari are never called trainers. Trainers dont really exist yet, because pokeballs are new tech and people havent really started training pokemon yet, at least for the primary purpose of battle. Heck, even Ingo, who was a trainer in his past life, is only ever called Warden Ingo in battles. Volo, before going mask off is called Ginkgo Guild Member Volo; while Rei/ Akari are called The Survey Corps Rei/ Akari
Tumblr media Tumblr media
One of the major plotpoints is after all, Diamond and Pearl clans thinking your new ways arent good, and thinking their management of pokemon, of living with them, is better. Meanwhile, at the start of the game they complain about you keeping pokemon in balls and think youre just using them
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(This becomes weird when you consider Ingo, who does use pokeballs in battle, but still has a high position in the pearl clan.)
My theory is "pokemon wielder" comes from how people in hisui see people who use pokemon primarily for battle. Most characters title is [job description[[name]. Most people who keep pokemon keep them as companions, or to help with their work (either literally, like the farmers in the fields, or by protecting them on the job, like the security corps and survey corps.) Theres no reason yet to just... train pokemon for trainings sake. And the people in hisui look upon the idea with suspicion. Pokemon wielder is probably a little used term made to describe someone who, in the future, would be called a pokemon trainer. But... derogatory.
But then theres Volo in the last fight. Because hes no longer even pretending to act on the Ginkgo guilds behalf, he has his title stripped from him. So, because hes not training pokemon to, say keep him safe on the job anymore, he's *just* a pokemon wielder. If you ditched the survey corps in some bad end alternative, people would probably call you a pokemon wielder too. Becsuse youre no longer doing this for a reason they can understand.
What proof do i have of this? Well, not much besides what ive included above. But, the music for trainer battles is called Battle! (Pokemon wielder). The theme when you fight *Volo*, on the other hand, is Battle! (Pokemon wielder Volo)
And honestly, this just seems more likely. As much as Volo sucks, he has three different mons that evolve from friendship. If he was in this time, hed be called a trainer, like a more problematic N.
Tumblr media
Though, we see that this'll likely start changing soon. If you talk to (cant remember exactly orz) either Zizu or one of her nearby subordinates, they mention thinking about setting up a dojo there in the future.
Having a dojo meant for pokemone battles would probably start changing the cultural expectations of human and pokemon relationships, and may even blossom into the first shinnoh gym! ( probably canalaves gym, due to the duel rivers running through. Yes, I know its called *jubilife* village. Its clearly closer to where canalave would later be on the map.)
So yeah. Thats why game freak didnt just go "oh his evil? He's a wielder now!" And how the phrase probably says less about Volos treatment of his team, and more sbout societal attitudes towards training pokemon.
Did i need to make an effort post about something so minor? Probably not. Did i enjoy obsessing over bullshit? Yep!

Is Eternatus Fossil Fuels? (Sword and Shield theory)
I have thoughts about eternatus. I don’t know how to put a read more so brace for a long ass post. Spoiler alert for pokemon sword and shield obviously.
————————————————————
Before sw/sh came out I remember watching a lockstin/gnoggin vid speculating on possible story and thematic directions, and he said it seemed like there could be themes of civilization or industry vs. nature. I thought that seemed really likely. And then I watched the game, eventually played it, and those themes weren’t there. Which felt weird with some of the things that seemed to point towards those themes being there. And what felt weirder was that the main villain was someone trying to provide the region with energy for the long term. If man vs nature was hinted at or considered, why is someone trying to SOLVE an energy crisis and thinking a thousand years ahead instead of just for the immediate future the “bad guy?” Isn’t that a weird message to send, what with climate change and all? Unless eternatus is a metaphor for fossil fuels. It might not be, but riddle me this.
-Fossil fuels come from fossils right? Oil is dead dinosaurs and all? What killed the dinosaurs? A meteor. Which eternatus fell to earth in. And eternatus looks like a skeleton, like the remains of a large reptilian creature. And eternatus was found sleeping underground, unearthed. Like a fossil. Drilling into the earth to get fuel. Oil. Eternatus.
-The ones really wreaking havoc with fossil fuels the most are big corporations, the rich and powerful at the top of monopolies and in positions of political power right? People like Rose. Chairman. Owner of Macro Cosmos. Have you seen how many companies are part of Macro Cosmos? They own the region dude.
-The emphasis on kids, the player and Hop’s generation, taking over things. A few gym leaders bring this up to you, the idea of adults stepping down and handing things off to younger people. We see a gym leader (Opal) find a successor, which we’ve never seen a gym leader do in previous games. The professor passes the job to her granddaughter. Never seen that happen either. And Leon talks about it when you beat him. Doesn’t Magnolia or someone straight up tell you to decide what to do with eternatus? The adults fail to stop it, fail to catch it. The kids are left to fight it along with the legendary wolves and you catch it and are just left with it. And the adults don’t seem to...care? You’re left with eternatus and told to decide what to do about it. The source of the region’s energy is in your hands now and you’re told to figure out how to deal with it. And encouraged to do right where Rose didn’t.
-Dynamax being a tradition. Like using this energy has been a part of the culture for hundreds of years. This fuel is a cemented norm in society. On top of that many people participate in the tradition and are oblivious to the true destructive power behind it. And it’s not just that people don’t know, but that the truth about the darkest day has been covered up. Not only are the sword and shield pokemon written out of history, but eternatus is completely absent from the legends. For most of the game you don’t know it exists. And who participates in the cover up as well? Rose. The one profiting off and benefiting from its power.
-Even without all this eternatus is a source of energy dug out of the ground that has apocalyptic potential if you feed it and use it as your go to power source. The head of a corporation’s idea of how to power the world, which could actually end up destroying it. That alone is enough of a parallel.
-What type is it? Poison. The only poison legendary excluding type switchers (silvally/arceus). It’s a fuel that’s toxic.

I did it. I beat the main story in Legends: Arceus. This is just a quick post to commemorate the occasion. Legends really is my favorite game since Black and White.
Tumblr media
I really wanted to mess around for a long time, but most people have finished the game by now, so spoilers are getting harder to ignore.
Palkia and Dialga's cinematic incursion into the Pokemon world really stole the show. Dialga and Palkia's Origin Forms are so ethereal and alien! They remind me of Xerneas and Yveltal, who were neglected in the lore department.
Commander Kamado's lapse into an old country dialect makes me think my theory that he came from Unova is right. He could have come from a pre-Driftveil Oregon Trail-style pioneer camp. His right hand man Beni also mentions moving on to a region with nicer climate. It's been a long time since GameFreak was this explicit about teasing future games!
Surprisingly Irida and Adaman's stories fell a little bit short! You'd think that learning Almighty Sinnoh is two creatures would rock their world, or that they'd get excited and bow upon seeing them, or even that they'd have some kind of opinion about you catching their literal deities considering they went out of their ways to tell you that you can't catch the Wardens. They don't do any of this. By this point they've grown to trust the player character so much that they're literally just there to work together with the Galaxy Team and support you. Without that conflict we don't get that meaningful moment where they bury the hatchet and work together, they just sort of gradually get used to each other. Which is technically more accurate when it comes to people of different stripes learning to work together, but story-wise the viewer needs that scene where they start working together more.
