Giratina's Temple and the Celestica Ruins
aka Giratina/platinum clan theory is back (also sorry for using mspaint lmao)
Tumblr media
So we all know about the Shrouded Ruins, yeah?
(This is the only spoiler warning for Pokemon Legends: Arceus you're gonna get)
Spooky. Ever-cloaked in mists and mystery, surrounded by black-stoned cairns like graves and home to the giant Odd Keystone that once (?) housed 108 souls. Very ghost-centric.
Well what if I told you it was a temple?
Tumblr media
Greco-roman temples (and, problematic or otherwise the celestica are absolutely greco-roman coded) are constructed relatively uniformly, with an outer later of columns holding up the roof and an inner layer holding up an internal structure, providing additional support, ect.
Tumblr media
We have a perfect in-game model to project from, too, in the Temple of Sinnoh (pre-explosion). You can see that some of the smaller columns are sometimes decorative - likely they held up torches or, in the case of the two nearest the 'altar,' offerings
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So knowing that style and having the remaining structures we do see in-game, we can approximate a lay out of what the building may have looked like.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
What makes this a temple, however, is more open to interpretation. My evidence to support that it is is actually the blue-tinged pedestals seen within the outline of the building - the place(s) of honor in any temple. Irl, the inner structure - the cella - was often fully-walled in, though sometimes this was constructed via wood and other materials that don't withstand time.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now, ENORMOUS shout-out to pokemaniacchris and the incredible Crimson Mirelands Archeological Survey Project for a really detailed, in-character breakdown of the ruins structures throughout the mirelands. I can only assume the 'surveyors' hadn't reached Mt. Coronet yet in their explorations.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pedestals like these (at least superficially similar) are found beneath dozens of statues around Mt. Coronet, including beneath Giratina, Palkia and Dialga in the Sacred Plaza area. Now, I know I'm supposed to be claiming that this is a temple to Giratina, but if we work on the assumption that the four pedestals corollate with Giratina, Palkia, Dialga, and Arceus, a new conclusion can, perhaps, be drawn:
That whoever built this temple saw all four of them on the same 'level' of power or -- and this is my hc taking over -- if the statues were placed in a certain orientation (see below) that they saw Arceus and Giratina on equal footing, with Dialga and Palkia one rank below.
Tumblr media
And there is, imo, more evidence to support this disruption of the 'creation trio' into two pairs on equal footing, found in the Celestica Ruins! So, among the structures there are two notable, circular buildings that the Greeks also utilized, called tholoi (plural). Irl, tholoi were a mix of secular-use and small-scale temples, and seeing as these two are small (maybe 10ft across inside?) I would maintain the claim that they're small temples.
And they align/mirror each other just as the statues of Palkia and Dialga do.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This part becomes pure conjecture, but I like to think the smaller structures in the ruins might be other small-scale temples for the various mythicals, honoring each much as the Greeks honored a pantheon.
Tumblr media
Lastly, the CMASP describes the "Gapejaw Bog Complex" as being potentially an entire agora all its own and I can't agree more. Such evidence would support the idea of there being two groups of Celestica (Note: Not the Clans.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I actually found myself wondering if the mirelands weren't always quite so swampy, and instead flooded at some point in the past with the depressions around Gapejaw - left by housing foundations - filled in with swamp water.
At the end of the day, I think there's a lot of evidence that the Celestica revered Giratina as well as Arceus, Dialga and Palkia - at least early on. Something happened to cause this schism, and the Old Verses/Plate inscriptions point to an outburst of rage from Giratina -- though, in "pick a god (and pray)" I actually argue it was mispercieved on the part of the Celestica and this misperception is what caused Arceus to despair and withdraw.
Open to discussion!! fellow nerds please interact!!

Thoughts on the Celestica People
I should probably preface this by admitting that I am not part of any marginalized group, nor particularly well-informed on issues concerning such, but I feel like some really interesting discourse concerning Pokemon Legends Arceus is being left by the wayside.
What we know about the Celestica is pretty sparse, so let me lay out a few points of interest:
The Celestica had some sort of relationship with Arceus; the exact nature of this relationship is unclear.
"To grief [they] f[e]ll" - some unknown tragedy befell the Celestica, and some of their people "quit their hearths, abandon[ed] hall," and when all of the Celestica are truly gone, "this land [Hisui] will be a home to none."
The Diamond and Pearl clans are from elsewhere, and took the name Celestica for themselves.
We know each clan worships it's own god, of time or space, but not why or how this came to be.
There are a ton of gaps in the narrative here, but there are some things that we can reasonably conclude. At best, the Celestica were written over by the people that took their name. At worst, the clans were active colonizers that directly contributed to the ruin of the native people.
Of the two, I find the second option considerably more likely; Hisui is a harsh region, and the game beats that fact into us over and over again throughout the course of the narrative. Resources are scarce, Alphas are terrifying, and no one trusts anyone not part of their group.
Which brings me to Volo; Volo, who knows the name Arceus. Volo, who is descended from the ancient Sinnoh people. Volo, who has apparently experienced something so horrible that resetting the world feels like a good idea.
There's a pretty awful conclusion to be drawn here, though how dark you'd like to make it is all up to you.
So let's jump right into pure speculation!
I find it really interesting that the clans each worship a different god, and neither one is the true Almighty SInnoh. While one might conclude that the clans took inspiration from the Celcestica statues, I have a different theory that ties into the above.
I think the clans once knew Dialga and Palkia by name and worshiped them directly, while the Celestica only worshiped Arceus. The clans absolutely have a history of animosity, but I believe it was much worse in the past - I think it was, at some point, all out war. And when their worshipers called, Dialga and Palkia answered.
Arceus, on the other hand, has a much more hands-off policy than His children. The ruins we see around Hisui aren't just weathered by time - parts of them have been destroyed. The only untouched places are Snowpoint Temple, located deeply in the regions most inhospitable climate, and the Temple of Sinnoh, which would have been sacred to both clans anyway.
And this ties neatly back in to what we know of Volo - why he needs to meet Arceus, why he is so desperate for answers. He isn't asking only on behalf of himself, but for his people as a whole. His obsession with ruins isn't only about knowledge, but about connection.
Yeah, it's just a kids game and I may be reading far deeper than intended into it, but I live for discourse and theorizing. At the very least, I think Volo's character has been done a disservice by ignoring his heritage and what it might mean for the lore as a whole. A number of things fall into place after only a bit of thought.

so, while im at it with all my hisui thoughts, i have a Mighty Need to know what was on the pedestals in the shrouded ruins and if the Gapejaw Buildings were also smaller temples in the vein of the small ones on coronet
bc at the base of mt coronet you'll find a set of ruins with a relatively small footprint that houses two statues that baffle me to this day -- one of a clefable and the other a probopass
and i think, combined with my uhhhhh theory on celestica honoring the garchomp line with the little froglike statues around the arenas, these two go to show they honored other pokemon lines found around coronet!
which got me thinking abt what a split off sect might honor if not the same groups of mon (though i think garchomp is an overlap!)
and thaaat brought me to the theory that the gira clansmen are the ones who brought zoroarks to hisui! dark type effectiveness to ghost (while still being aligned with ghost in someways, like spiritomb) and the association between illusion and distortion, makes original zoroark a good fit. And my schism theory could connect here by saying the reason zoroarks were driven out is bc their relationship to the gira clan, and its poetic and tragic that their typing changes to one part immunity and one part effective/weak to itself.
i also think that the gira clan mightve been the ones to especially honor the togekiss line, as the mirelands are where you find wild toge lines! additionally i entertain the idea that they mightve aligned themselves with the honchkrow and mismagius lines for their typings, and i like to think the spells described in the myths abt mismagius might be the Unown carvings/runes that might enabled the creation of the Odd Keystones (with the implication that mismagius themselves are the ghosts humans who learned/used these magics)
its the height of indulgence to just pop all my faves into lore spots but what else am i here for ahdksjdksl
oh lastly, if not gira/arceus/dia/palkia on the four pedestals its very possible it was the Forces of Nature! considering you find enamorous in the mirelands and she stuck around cogita all these years. tbh they might not have even been statues but platforms for offerings -- if the temple itself was fully open air they could leaving the offerings there for the quartet to indulge as they like (ofc i still think its a gira temple, and designed like the temple of sinnoh with bunch of insigna related to gira but the statues/pedestals for other mon of honor as the nobles are)

welcome to celestica!
well, celestica has been my island for about six months now. but once again, i am starting over. i’ve had acnh since the day it came out and this is probably my third or fourth island 😭 oh well.
the thing is I’ve never completely transitioned to acnh. been playing new leaf for so long, i have more experience with new leaf, and i hardly really played new horizons. i want that to change because i know new horizons is an amazing game just like new leaf, and more people have a switch nowadays.
so yeah, today is my first day on the recreated celestica island. my old island wasn’t super developed anyways. my house was fully upgraded but the rest of the island was lame. i saved about 16 million bells, 50 nook miles tickets, and a bunch of cute clothes and brought them over to my friend’s island. ill have to pick those up sometime, but other than that I am starting fresh. i even forgot to save fruits from my old island so gonna have to start fresh with those too. it’s gonna be fun though. i have a lot of goals for this new island, and I’m excited to share them.
for now this blog will be focused on my new horizons island, but i will probably be reblogging other animal crossing content, and maybe even post some personal stuff since I don’t have a personal blog. however in the future I kinda wanna make another new leaf town (which would be so much easier since I have multiple DS consoles and multiple copies of the game lol). maybe I’ll even play pocket camp again. i also kinda wanna explore some older animal crossing games since have every animal crossing game except for the original GameCube one. animal crossing has been an on and off hyperfixation of mine for many years so I really want an outlet to talk about it :)
finally, one of the bigger reasons I made this blog is to hopefully meet some new mutuals who play animal crossing. if you play new horizons or new leaf, feel free to message me. i will follow back any & all animal crossing themed blogs. any support is appreciated: follows, likes, reblogs, etc are helpful to my growth. i will try to be active and post at least once (hopefully multiple) times per day.
anyways, congrats if you made it this far. i write a lot lol. but yeah this was just a sweet little introduction, more interesting posts are coming soon 💗
