Supernatural Advent Calendar Day Two - A Letter For Santa
Pairing: Sam Winchester x Gabriel (Sabriel)
Warnings: Suggestions of Explicit Content
Word Count: 661
“Sam, I did a little research,” Jack walked into the library and sat down opposite to the hunter, where he was indulging himself in a new book series - something Sam hadn’t had time for in a long time. But now that they were officially celebrating Christmas, they’d agreed on no hunting until the new year, no matter what came up.
“Did you now?” Sam placed a bookmark in his page and gently placed it on the table. “What about?” he gave the Nephilim his full attention.
“About-” was all Jack managed to say before he was cut off by a grumpy archangel.
“Yeah, nice to see you too, Jack,” Gabriel grumbled, peeling himself off the floor (where he had been in boredom) to sit next to his boyfriend.
“Oh! Hi Uncle Gabe! I didn’t see you there!” Jack said with enthusiasm, receiving a roll of the eyes.
“I’ve been trying to get Samsquatch’s attention for hours now, and you said the magic word. How could I forget?” Gabriel smirked now, leaning over to shake Sam’s thigh.
“If you wanted to do something, you could have just asked instead of whining about it too me for three hours,” Sam reasoned but was smiling anyway. Gabriel shrugged.
“I’ve got something in mind,” the Archangel wiggled his eyebrows, making Sam shake his head.
“No, we went out for ice-cream yesterday. And if you’re really desperate there's some in the freezer,” Sam sighed but laughed as Gabriel pouted with his arms across his chest.
“Now Jack, what was it that you wanted to tell me?” Sam turned to the boy again, who was smiling at the interaction between the two. He really did have four very different Dad’s.
“I looked up some stuff about Christmas!” Jack said, opening his laptop to show Sam, who laughed.
“You looked up Christmas?” he chuckled until he saw Jack’s confused look. “Oh. Jack, you could have just asked any of us. You didn’t have to look it up,” Sam softened his voice a little. Not that he would admit it, but Gabriel loved it when he did that.
“Oh I’m sorry, I didn’t- didn’t know,” Jack looked down, feeling slightly ashamed. “But I did find out about this ‘jolly red man’- Santa -”
Gabriel snorted, and Sam shot a glare his way.
“-And that people write letters to him for what they want for Christmas!” Jack continued, oblivious.
“So, you wanna send a wishlist to the man himself?” Gabriel asked, tilting his head slightly. Sam grinned at the Nephilim, who nodded enthusiastically.
“Listen, kid. Santa isn’t-” Gabriel started, but Sam with his quick reflexes whacked him on the back of his head.
“Santa is going to super happy that you want to write a letter, Jack!” Sam said quickly before Gabriel could join in. “I can help. Gabe, go get some paper and pencils,”
“What?”
“Now, Gabriel,” Sam turned to his angelic boyfriend with a suggestive look in his eye, and the archangel sped off to find the supplies.
Dear Santa,
I’m not really sure what I’m meant to write, but Sam is helping me. I guess I just want for everybody to be happy - you can do that, right?
Although a bike would be awesome. I keep seeing kids riding them and I’d love to learn. Now that we’ve got the time, of course.
Is it alright if I ask for things for everyone else? Sam wants the next book in his series, and I think Uncle Gabe wants an ice-cream maker. He keeps going on about it, so hopefully, that would make him stop whining for a while. Cas… Cas wants one of those beekeeping things. He’s promised me he’ll take me to a bee farm someday, so maybe that is a start for his own? And Dean, he wants Cas, basically. Maybe a new vinyl album of some sort, because it’s kinda hard for you to give him something he already has.
From Jack

Supernatural Advent Calendar Day Fourteen - The Ugliest Christmas Sweater
Pairing: Dean Winchester x Castiel (Destiel)
Warnings: i cannot remember if i swore so keep an eye out for that, and very suggestive content. idk if that needs a warning, but you’ve been warned. also crack-fic, kinda
Word Count: 362 (its short)
A/N: also I kinda strayed away from the main theme of today so sorry about that???
Castiel yawned as he woke up, rolling over to face the middle of the bed, and so he could see the face of the man he loved.
Castiel nearly screamed.
“What the- what the Dad, Dean?” Castiel yells instead. Dean was lying on his side, facing Castiel with a shit eating grin on his face. When the angel’s eyes drifted down slightly, he could see that Dean was wearing a bright green sweater of sorts, and a large black and white blob in the middle.
“Wait a minute” Castiel narrowed his eyes.
“Yep,” Dean popped the ‘p’, smiling brightly. The sweater had Castiel’s face on it.
“What on earth is it?” Castiel sat up in bed, trying to regain confidence lost on the last minute.
“It’s an ugly Christmas sweater! I got you one too!” Dean rolled over and off the bed, reaching for the dresser.
“... Ugly…” Castiel thought out loud, and Dean stood up straighter.
“No! That's uh, not what, no! I meant uh- I wouldn’t! Cas I-” Dean stumbled on his words. Meanwhile, Castiel had dragged himself out of bed and cut Dean off with a passionate kiss.
“Don’t worry, I know you find me the most beautiful being in the world,” Castiel smirked. “You told me last night,” Dean’s face turned bright red before a sheepish look swept across his face.
“I uh, I have a, a sweater for you,” Dean mumbled, handing over a deep blue fabric. Castiel smiled, as he held it up in front of him. It had Dean’s smiling face on the front.
“Lookontheback” Dean mumbled again, still trying to regain his cool.
Castiel turned the jumper around, and on it were a pair of tiny white and fluffy wings. Tearing up slightly, he held it to his chest.
“I love it, Dean.”
“Really?” he perked up.
“Really,” Castiel thought for a moment, then wriggled the jumper on, on top of his burger-themed-pyjamas. “How’d I look?” he smiled innocently at Dean, who just laughed.
“A million bucks, honeybee,” Dean placed his arm around the angel, and walked them out of their room for breakfast, leaving a confused Sam in their wake after walking past.
A/N: If anyone draws them in these jumpers or cas’s burger pjs PLEASE TAG ME I WANNA SEE

Fairytale!Destiel AU : Chapter One
It’s finally here guys! And on Friday like I promised!!!
Pairing: Dean Winchester/Castiel (Destiel)
Warnings: None, but in the future probably Teen and Up???
Word Count: 1010 :)
Like most fairy tales, we’ll start this story the classic way. Once Upon A Time, in the kingdom of Lebanon, there was a well-developed society, with a few villages, and a large glamorous Castle just past the forest. Inside the castle lived The Royal Family, and his greatness, King Charles I.
Castiel was a prince, whom outside the Royal Family was fairly known for a middle child, but not as much as the eldest, Michael, or the youngest, Samandriel. Inside the castle, however, Castiel was overlooked often, being the seventh child out of twelve. This caused the seventeen-year-old to step out of line and rebel from his father's wishes.
“Cas. Cas! Castiel!” Balthazar shouted at Castiel, who was reading a book in their library. He always wondered if he’d ever get the time to read all of them. Looking up, Castiel saw Balthazar right in front of his face, and he jumped.
“Stop it,” Castiel groaned, pushing his brother’s face away. Balthazar was the same age as him, but Castiel was only three months away from being eighteen, versus the newly turned seventeen-year-old.
“Come on Cassie! Ellie is getting in trouble!” Balthazar snickered, pulling Castiel to his feet.
“What? Again? Did she sneak out again last night?” Castiel rolled his eyes and placed his book on the table for later, after making sure he remembered which page he was at.
“Yeah, and they caught the guy this time,” Balthazar said with a little too much glee, already pulling a sleepy Castiel out of the room. He hadn’t been sleeping lately, and he was yet to find the reasoning behind it. But seeing his younger sister get in trouble again really was a confidence boost because then he knew how to not get caught sneaking out himself.
Sprinting down the hallway laughing, the two brothers made it to their father’s throne room within two minutes, and only five glares from various people they ran past.
“Anael, how many times-” King Charles, or as he preferred: ‘Chuck’, said as the two boys peaked around the door.
“It’s Ellie,” Anael sneered, obviously fuming.
“Anael,” Chuck said firmly. “You have got to know how wrong it is that you are sneaking out without my permission and let this… this guy do things to you!” he then growled, pacing back and forth on the platform, while Anael was standing below it, scowling at her father.
“How did they catch her?” Castiel whispered to Balthazar, wondering if he’d have to change his methods.
“Uh, I think the guy was walking her to the edge of the forest when those hunter guys found them, and turned them in,” Balthazar mumbled back. “Now shut-up before we get cau-”
“Boys, I know you’re there,” Chuck said before Balthazar could finish his sentence, and he groaned. Anael’s head snapped towards the door as the two walked in sheepishly.
“Would you like to tell me why you were snooping?” Chuck asked them sternly, although he had a smile on his face like always.
“It’s because Castiel-” Anael started with a smirk, ready to drag him through the mud, but he cut her off.
“Because I don’t get told anything, so I decided to figure out what on earth is going on in this godforsaken castle,” Castiel frowned. Yeah, not getting a lot of sleep was not a good idea.
“Cas, there's a reason you don’t get told everything,” Chuck sighed. Not only did he have to deal with Anael, but Lucifer wasn’t being very helpful recently either.
“Oh, so you use his nickname,” Anael grumbled, earning a look from Chuck.
“I’m eighteen in three months, Dad. I think I deserve to know what's going on in our kingdom,” Castiel grumbled. “And if you’re not going to tell me, I’ll just have to figure out myself,” and like that, Castiel stormed out of the throne room, leaving his father with a broken face and siblings to figure themselves out.
“See, that's what I don’t understand, Bee. Everybody else in this goddamn family gets told everything, even Samandriel gets told the important stuff, and he’s thirteen,” Castiel grumbled to Belle in the kitchen. Belle was the closest thing he had to a friend really because technically everybody else who lived in the Castle that wasn’t staff was his family member, so Castiel spent a fair amount of time in the kitchen. When he wasn’t reading, or wandering in the woods that is.
“Cas, have you ever thought that maybe, just maybe, your Dad knows that you’re sneaking out, and he won’t trust you to keep the information? What is he meant to do if you disappear one night, knowing all the castles secrets? I’m not the only one who doesn’t trust those hunters…” Belle trailed off, looking out the window that Castiel sometimes escaped from.
“I’m pretty sure he knows more about me than I do, so he may as bloody well be God,” Castiel sighed. “I confronted him about me sneaking out in a non-obvious way, and by his response I just knew. But I don’t understand why he’s letting me keep doing what I’m doing when he’s just scolded Anael for doing basically the same thing…”
“Yeah, but Anael did other stuff too to get in trouble for. She’s broken many Royal Rules, Cas. More than you have. Plus, you always stick to the Family’s part of the forest. She was found in the road section that connects the villages,” Belle explained, kneading the dough. She was in her early twenties, Castiel guessed. He knew it was rude to ask someone their age.
“I guess,” Castiel humphed and sank lower into the breaking chair.
“I don’t guess, I know, sweetie,” she smiled at the Prince. He was so troubled, and yet he had no idea what was even in store for him.
“Thanks, Bee. I’m going to go back to the library,” he said absentmindedly, standing up and walking out. He could have been anything, so why did he have to be a goddamn prince with eleven siblings.
A/N: Oof I know this sucks bc I suck at first chapters, but we’re gonna see Dean next and it should be getting better in general :) Please tell me what you think??

Slept Through The Apocalypse : Prologue

Warnings: confusion is likely
Words: 804
Description: the beginning of it all
Note: im super excited for this!!
chapters:  start

One Hundred and Twenty-Eight years previously
“Mmph,” Castiel groaned as he clutched his head with his eyes still closed. He vaguely remembered being knocked out, but who knows for how long. Or where the Winchesters are-
The hunter opened his eyes to find himself in a white and surgically clean holding cell, with steel bars keeping him inside. There was no known source of sunlight, but he squinted from the glare. After a few more seconds of trying to grab his bearings, he noticed someone calling out his name. His name.
“Sam! Cas!” It called out, and Castiel grabbed hold of the wall as he tried to figure out what this meant.
“Oh my god. DEAN!” Castiel finally managed to call out, and he heard a noticeable sigh of relief.
“Cas are you okay? Sammy isn’t responding,” Dean’s voice sounded weary, and who knows how long he’s been awake for. He quickly figured out that Dean must be in the cell next to him, judging by how close the calling was.
Scrambling to get up and reach the bars. “Yeah, I’m okay Dean what about-” Castiel said as he reached out to grab the bars.
“NO CAS DON’T!” Dean yelled, but it was too late. He grabbed the steel bar and got thrown backwards from an electric shock.
“CAS!” Dean yelled out again, panic high in his voice.
“I’m- oomph, I’m okay,” Castiel groaned as he propped himself up, when there was a second voice.
“Guys?”
“SAM!” Both Dean and Castiel yelled out. It only just occurred to him that just maybe this was a trick, and the Winchesters weren’t here at all. Or maybe he was dreaming, maybe they’re dead in a ditch while he’s being transported to some- some secondary location.
“Where are we?” Sam’s voice cut through Castiel’s thoughts, and Dean answered for both of them.
“No idea.”
But then a loud and booming voice came from speakers outside the holding cells, making Castiel jump.
“Good. You’re all awake. It’s time,” a booming and unfamiliar voice said from speakers, whereabouts unknown.
“Time for what,” Castiel heard Dean mumbled, as a door slide open and multiple pairs of feet came marching in, most likely wearing soldier type uniforms.
Castiel certainly didn’t expect for six of them to stop out the front of his cell, but then again, he didn’t know what to expect anyway.
The cell bars slide open, and the six soldiers came marching in to pick Castiel up off his feet, with the intentions of dragging him to the next room if needed.
He tried to dig his heels in, but the floor was smooth and slippery without the correct shoes on, which Castiel did not have, he kept sliding. “DEAN!” Castiel called out, trying to turn his head, but he felt a sharp jab in his side. He shut up.
In a matter of minutes, they had brought Castiel to a large open room, with three tables with electronics attached laid out in the centre. But that wasn’t the main focus of the mechanical engineer, it was a uniformed woman standing by the one over on the far end of the room.
The soldiers came to a stop in front of her, still gripping Castiel’s arms. “Welcome, Castiel.” she was clearly the head authoritative at- at whatever place this was.
“Where am I,” Castiel growled, despite being in a position that gave him no upper hand.
“You are at the BDA, otherwise knows as the Bureau of Defense Testing. And you, Mr. Novak, are our next subject.
Hearing feet behind him, Castiel turned his head. Sam and Dean were also being dragged in, struggling. “And so are the Winchester brothers,” turning back to look at her, he found a smug smile plastered on her face.
“Why are you doing this?” Castiel said through gritted teeth, weighing up the effect of spitting on her.
“That's for me to know, and for you to… well, I think I’ll let you sleep on it,” she chuckled to herself, before nodding at one of the soldiers standing by.
“Say goodnight, Castiel,” the woman smirked again, and he was lifted up and thrown down onto the table. Not without a struggle of course. Castiel had no idea what was happening, but he wasn’t going to let it happen without a fight.
“Cas! No!” He heard Dean yell from the table over, who the soldiers were having difficulty lifting up.
Pinned down at the arms and legs between two complicated systems, someone stuck an IV in his arm.
“I swear to god if you do anything to him-” Castiel heard Dean yelling out what felt like a mile away.
The white lights overtook his vision as he faded away, a strange calm overcoming him. No one was yelling, and he was safe. He was gone.

Supernatural Advent Calendar Day Three - At The Christmas Bakery
Pairing: Sam Winchester & Dean Winchester (Brotherly love, guys. And Jackie boi)
Warnings: this is like, really bad I warn you. I’m tired
Word Count: 544
“Why did we have to go, when the others got to stay at home?” Dean grumbled to Sam as they pulled up in front of the bakery.
“Gabe told me that they were going to ‘Christmas-i-fy’ the bunker, which could only mean decorations,” Sam said, getting out of the Impala. Jack had also come along as well, ‘for the experience’.
“You’re lucky he told you anything. Cas hasn’t spoken to me all morning,” Dean grumbled, watching Jack rush to the door of the bakery. “And we’re early, fantastic,” he added in an equally annoyed voice.
While Dean sat on the hood of his baby, Sam went to the door to look at the opening hours.
“We’re only five minutes early, Dean. You’ll live,” Sam turned to face his brother with a small smirk on his face.
---
Fifteen minutes later, and it still wasn’t open. “C’mon Sammy, you lied!” Dean argued.
“No Dean- it says it opens at nine!” Sam reasoned, walking over to the sign again, looking inside the bakery as well.
“Sure,” Dean grumbled, crossing his arms over his chest, while Jack remained silent.
Then suddenly, a small red car pulled up, and a flustered girl in her early twenties practically threw herself out of the car, rushing to the door.
“I am so so sorry!” She said as she shimmied the key to open the door. “I didn’t mean to be late and-”
“Hey it's fine, really,” Sam smiled at the girl, pretending Dean wasn’t still mumbling to himself.
“Are you sure? I mean-”
“Don’t worry about it,” he smiled again, helping the girl open the door, and they all walked in.
“There’s another problem,” she started, pulling on an apron with the name tag ‘Amy’ on it. “Nothing has been made, apart from a lot of bread, so I hope that's what you were after…”
Dean scoffed. “What kind of bakery runs like this?”
“Dean!”
“That was rude, Dean,” Jack chimed in. He’d been quiet for a while, taking in the shop and the cold morning.
“Oh, so he speaks,” Dean turned to the kid and spoke sarcastically.
“Cut it out, Dean! You’ll have to excuse my brother,” Sam turned to Dean, then Amy to apologise. “He’s… not a morning person.”
Amy nodded. “Well, if you have some time, you could always help me in the kitchen? Make your own treats?” she suggested shyly. She’d seen the boys in their car driving past the shops, and everyone who lived here thought they were attractive, including Lily, whos gay.
“No,”
“That would be amazing, thank you,” Sam smiled warmly at the same time Dean grumbled another response.
“Oh, and we have a no negativity rule!” Amy winked, earning the fakest smile from Dean.
---
“How did Jack get flour all over him?” Sam had taken the shortest bathroom, and this happens. “I can’t believe you,” he sighed.
Meanwhile, Dean was laughing with Amy, who had her phone out. Poor Jack was still trying to put the flour on the bench back in the container, with no luck. Suddenly there was a loud beep, and soon there were three medium sized bags with treats in them.
The boys thanked Amy and drove home, wondering what on earth they would arrive home too.

It Is What It Is (Destiel)
Right. So I’ve been really inactive, so I decided to publish something that I wrote like, a year ago. It’s trashy, but its something. So enjoy this shitshow, y’all
Supernatural or Marvel
Pairing: Dean Winchester/Castiel (Destiel)
Warnings: None?
Words: 1122
Description: Maybe Castiel has an awakening, and realises how stupid he and Dean have been.
Note: This is in the same universe where Sam and Dean have a little sister, Harry. You don’t really need to know much about her, but she's here.
“It Is What It Is”
“What the hell, Cas,” Harry asked. Castiel had randomly come out with this as soon as he popped in the room, and looked at Harry in the eyes.
Cas shrugged as he started walking towards the kitchen. Harry looked at Dean, then Sam with a quizzical look on her face. But her brothers had the same expression on their faces.
So she followed Cas into the kitchen to find him bending over and looking into the fridge, with a very serious expression on his face.
Harry was about to start asking questions as she leaned on the kitchen island, but Cas bet her to it.
“What happened to the burgers?” he inquired.
“The- the what now?”
“The burgers. I left some in the fridge from yesterdays dinner.” Cas looked up and directly at Harry for the second time today.
“We had them for lunch… Cas you were there!” Harry spoke uneasily now.
The Angel straightened up and closed the fridge door.
“I was.” He said as if he was a million miles away.
“Cas, wh-” before Harry could ask her questions, he interrupted again.
“I have to go” he stated simply. Most People would think that Castiel was emotionless, but Most People didn’t know Cas like the Winchesters did. Something was wrong.
So before Cas had a chance to blink out of the small kitchen, Harry jumped over the island and grabbed onto his arm.
“No, you don’t. We’re going to sort this out.” She started to pull his arm.
Unfortunately for Harry, he did not budge. “Ugh, I thought Jimmy was weak. Hey, Deeeeeaaaaannnnnn” she called out to her eldest brother for help.
As soon as she said Dean’s name, Cas started stepping backwards and his eyes grew to the size of dinner plates. Harry noticed all this and looked at Cas carefully.
Once Dean had walked in with the confused look on his face from earlier, Cas’s eyes started darting all around the room, looking anywhere but at Dean.
Harry had a sudden realisation. He was embarrassed. And it has something to do with Dean.
Instead of embarrassing him more, Harry made a mental note to ask him about that later.
“Uh, Dean, can you please help me get Cas into the living room? Jimmy isn’t as weak as he used to be” she half-joked half-asked Dean, gesturing to her hand which had a handful of the beige trench coat.
“Sure...” he replied, the confused tone still in his voice.
After multiple unsuccessful attempts to move Cas, they finally decided to call Sam in and talk to Cas there. Harry got stuck with holding the Angel in the kitchen.
“Cas,” Sam started. “What is up with you? You’ve been dropping in and out all day saying these random things! And Harry told us that you couldn’t even remember having lunch with us.” He said sternly, but with a hint of kindness that was apart of Sam.
Cas didn’t answer, and he was still avoiding Dean’s eyes.
Dean spoke up. “Cas!”
He looked up instantly and stared at Dean in the eye with unreadable emotions.
Dean recoiled a little bit at Cas’s sudden staring. Cas then turned to Harry, but with this time his expression was clear.
She gave him a little nod to let him know it was okay, and Cas zapped them away.
Harry hated being transported with an Angel. It’s almost the exact same as how J.K. Rowling describes apparition in Harry Potter: like you’re being squeezed through a tiny tube that’s way too small for your body.
After taking a moment to take in her surroundings and figure out where they were – the basement – she glanced back at Cas.
His expression was unreadable again. But this time it was because there was too many. His posture suggested he was embarrassed, while his face suggested worry. But his eyes were scared.
“Cas,” she said softly, hoping that he would tell her what was wrong this time. "It's okay. Everything is okay."
“Jack,” he paused and took a deep breath. “Jack showed me the future again.” His voice was shaky as he told Harry everything.
Meanwhile, Sam and Dean had been freaking out about where their little sister and friend had gone. It wasn’t like Cas to disappear, and he knew that Harry hated travelling that way.
They had split up, looking all around the bunker for any sign of them.
Each time Dean yelled out a name, his voice grew more and more worried. He's already lost both of them before - he doesn't want to feel that pain again.
Sam stayed cool. It was unreasonable to freak out. Cas had probably wanted to talk to Harry alone, but he could have asked them to leave. He checked each room more careful than Dean, checking in conjoining rooms as well.
“Harry!” Sam yelled in a tone between fright and relief as his little sister appeared in the bedroom Sam was about to leave.
Harry blinked for a second as she stood there before her eyes lit up with excitement. “Come on! It’s happening!” she almost squealed as she ran forward and grabbed Sam’s hand, then pulled him forward with her.
She ran and didn't stop until she came to a door, which sent Sam flying into her back, almost knocking her over.
She held a finger to her lips, telling Sam to be quiet. They crept into the room, to see Cas standing in front of Dean, their chests only centimetres apart.
“Cas,” Dean’s voice said, but his candy green eyes were focused on Cas’s bright blue. “What are you doing?”
“What I should have done a long time ago”
Cas’s lips crashed into Dean’s, and Dean’s eyes widened in surprise before he sunk into the kiss. Dean was always the one to act first and think later
Sam leaned over to Harry, who were both still at the door, watching. Harry’s face was full of pride and happiness, while Sam was purely confused.
“What am I looking at?” he whispered to her.
She grinned at him, and whispered back to him: “It Is What It Is”
A look of realisation dawned Sam before his confused expression returned.
“Come on, we should give them some privacy” she pulled on Sam’s arm, and Sam moved willingly, but his confused expression still didn’t change.
Harry closed the door behind them before she would see anything she would regret seeing for the rest of her life.
"Come on, Sammy." She patted him on the back. "It'll sink in soon" she laughed as she led Sam back to the kitchen to eat the last burger she had hid from Cas at lunch.

Fairytale!Destiel AU : Chapter Two
Y’all I’m so sorry this took five days rather than two. But its here!!!
Pairing: Dean Winchester/Castiel (Destiel)
Warnings: Theres guns, but this is a supernatural fanfic
Word Count: 1246
I mentioned earlier that there were a few villages in the kingdom, that were surrounded by the forest. Some people theorized that the forest was filled with monsters to keep them in, but they were nothing but bedtime stories.
Dean Winchester lived in the middle village, where life was tougher than the one closest to the castle, but not so much that people were starving every night. He lived in a small house with the rest of his family, his father John, his mother Mary, his grandfather Samuel, and his two younger brothers, Sam and Adam.
He had a lot of responsibilities, especially with his brothers, because Mary spent most of her time sewing, and well, John was one of the seven college drunks. So Dean had to take up their family business with Sam, hunting animals and god knows what in the forest for the less fortunate
“I’m going hunting, Mum!” Dean called out, swinging the hunting bag she made for him over his shoulder. There was no reply.
Sighing, Dean walked out of the house, meeting Sam at the door. “Ready Sammy?” he asked his little brother, ruffling his hair with a smirk.
“Deeean,” Sam groaned, attempting to straighten his hair again. “Which part are we going to today? There are no more animals behind our house,” he then asked, rushing slightly to catch up with Dean.
“Northside. Near the edge of the allowed hunting ground,” Dean said, looking both ways before sneaking down between to houses. Hunting wasn’t illegal as such. Samuel Campbell had asked permission years and years ago from King Charles, but it was still frowned upon by the villagers. So the Winchester’s dealt with the looks, and the teasing at schools, and snuck off to the forest unseen to help their town from beating away starvation. Ungrateful little-
“Isn’t that pushing the limits a bit, Dean? What if we shoot something that's on the wrong side? If we get caught they’ll-” Sam rambled, breaking Dean out of his train of thought.
“For god sakes, shut up,” Dean cut him off. “We’ll be fine. It’s not like we’re going right up to the edge,” he snapped, and immediately felt guilty after.
They stepped into the forest, and the whole atmosphere changed. The cries of children playing were far behind them, and the brothers placed another layer of clothing on. People say that the forest is filled with monsters, but Dean only ever comes across the occasional ghost, never seeing the so-called ‘werewolves’ and ‘vampires’ the town claimed to have heard at night. Dean knew they were real, but the borders of the forest were heavily guarded against those kinds of things.
After taking a moment to let their eyes adjust, they began walking again, the only sounds being the rustle of leaves and Dean’s bag banging against his back.
“Hey Dean,” Sam asked, his voice low. He wasn’t afraid of the ghosts, he was afraid of a ghost sneaking up on him and killing him. That's how their grandmother had died.
“Yeah, Sammy?” Dean groaned. For a fifteen-year-old, he sure did ask a lot of questions.
“Is Dad going to hunt with us again? Ever since Adam started-” Sam continued, but Dean turned around to face Sam, stopping both of them.
“Listen, Dad has been getting further and further away from us. You shouldn’t really expect much from him anymore,” Dean tried not to growl, so it was more of an angry huffing. Adam didn’t spend a lot of time with Sam and Dean anyway, preferring to play sports with his friends. And John? John spent more time in the local bar than he did at home, which wasn’t very hard for him. So hunting was left to Sam, who was left to Dean. And boy, did he want an out.
Dean kept walking to the spot where he’d remembered seeing a few rabbits. They were fat at this time of year. “This looks like a memorable tree, Sammy?” he asked him, already getting ready to carve the date into it.
“Yeah Dean,” Sam replied and dropped his bag next to it, then began rummaging through it. While guns were easiest to use, both brothers loved finding new ways to catch hunts. Knives were pretty good, especially the fancy one grandpa Sam claims he sold his soul for. But you had to get close or be exceptional with aiming. Sam always thought bow and arrows were cool, but Dean always told him that the large bow was unpractical. So traps and guns it was.
After carving the date, Dean grabbed his own gun and started to move quickly but quietly, and despite not hearing him, knowing that Sam was doing the same.
Dean felt a hand on his upper arm, but he didn’t flinch. All he did was turn his head, quietly relieved that it was just Sam, who nodded towards the left where three rabbits were twitching.
‘You take the one on the right,’ Dean mouthed to Sam, intending to take out the other two himself.
Sam nodded, and they raised their guns, but Dean held up a hand, hearing footsteps. Dean, having been more experience, was the only one who heard them. He was also convinced that Sam was partly deaf, or as he put it: “selective my ass”.
He turned his head to the side, and he could have sworn he saw a flash of white in the distance. Not a ghost, but still fast. Dean let his gun fall to the side of his leg, and Sam did the same, although more confused than his older brother.
“What is it?” Sam hissed, keeping his eyes on the rabbits in case they figured out they were there to shoot them.
“Shh,” Dean held up his pointer finger to his lips. Taking a step forward, he moved his head around, trying not to make any noise with his feet, in the opposite direction to the rabbits. Toward the King’s part of the forest.
“Dean!” Sam whispered-shouted, annoyed that his older brother wasn’t telling him what was going on.
“Sam, quiet,” Dean growled quietly, turning towards Sam then back again.
He could feel the gasp someone let out. It wasn’t uncommon for the King’s children to be out in his part of the forest because frankly, everybody in the village knew they were little shits. It was too small of a kingdom for secrets like that. But they were royalty. Whoever was daring the edge of the forest tonight obviously wasn’t expecting the resident hunters to be on that line too, with a gun pointing at them nonetheless.
The unknown royal peeked out from behind a tree, before quickly retreating. Curious, huh? Dean smirked to himself. To be honest with himself, Dean didn’t really like the royals much. He thought the whole system was rigged. This kid didn’t have anything to do with that but aimed his gun about five meters away from the tree the royal was at anyway, and fired.
Not even a second later even Sam could hear the footsteps running, and he caught up with Dean. “What was it? I hope it was worth it because you’ve scared the rabbits away,”
“Relax, Sammy. We’ll find something else on the way back,” he smiled at his younger brother, throwing an arm around his shoulder, despite Sam being taller. “Who knows, maybe I scared a deer right into our path,” Dean grinned, picking up his bag and humming.
