friendship is cool bc you get to have these funny little guys who make you happy and become a better person or whatever and laugh a lot. but then there’s the horrors (trying to see and message them frequently enough when you know you can’t possibly juggle all of them all at once and never knowing the best answer)
#nightmare.personal#maybe i tell my irls to fuck off for a week so i can just get to work repairing all my online relationships#i won't actually do that but like. my social battery is so fucked#also there's the other issues but we don't talk aboutu those <- diseased interpersonally#we do talk abt those a lot but im turning over a new leaf to be normal#this is late night confessionals. hi i know cool people. wish i fucking knew how to talk to anybody#its so stupid too bc when i message them or join a vc everyone accepts me like i was never gone and is friendly and kind and all that#but then it's like. do ppl think im not committing. do they think i don't care#and like how do i convince people i care when im barely here and barely know whats going on#idk. wish klav was here he's better at fucking online things i think#i think im doing good socializing with my irls at least. like scheduling hangouts#when my gf comes back i need to see her like asap bc my brain is fucking obliterating itself but thats unrelated#sorry this is litrally late night thoughts#dont rb btw#my irl social life is better and i think part of me sees that as more important?#like obviously all my friends are important to me diffeerently but. if i disappear on an irl for a while they'll give me shit for it#versus online that's just life you know but. i don't know.#sometimes i wonder if my online friends know how much they mean to me and i realize they probably don't and i get scared#and then i wonder how all of them have to feel about me at that point and we don't really have to go into that but like#i don't know. it's always a little a lot scary#and people seem to be so natural at doing this online but i meanwhile just fucking can't#i'm allergic to discord servers its a thing. except the one im active in which makes me happy but i still forget to talk there all the time#so im still allergic but im choosing to partake. its like the lactose intolerance of the whole group

Part Nine :: Hell
TW’s :: Cara is very depressed, Missouri is being a LIAR, Maine is in pain :( Chemical Burns, verbal abuse implied, slapping, Lady Whump
Notes :: They say if a chapter isn’t working, change the point of view. So here’s a brand new point of view! This also took litrally forever. Superrrr sorry about that. I tried really hard to research chemical burns, but this is probably still inaccurate somehow.

Carolina’s POV
The days went by, and Cara felt little to none emotion.
She knew the world was cruel, people went missing all the time.
But... argh, it was so selfish of her to believe it couldn’t happen to someone she knew.
It had been a little over a week with no sign of Maine.
Cara missed her best friend. Everyone- even Missouri who had been so hopeful at finding her at the start- had given up on ever finding her again. She hadn’t.
She was failing the few classes she took, she didn’t listen when they taught. Sat there, lost in thought, thinking for any clue to were Maine might be. Couldn’t sleep, to lost in thinking about what Maine might be going through at that moment.
Missouri visited sometimes. He’d see her sleepy face and make her coffee. Made sure she ate.
She admired him for that. For being able to keep everything together. She’d only seen him panic once. She, however seemed to burst into tears every few hours. Missouri tried to be there for her. It wasn’t fair to him. He’d lost someone to. He’d loved her for goodness sake. She should be comforting him. So she tried to keep herself together, she really did try.
The authorities were on the job. They had found nothing so far. Not even a clue of were Maine was.
Getting rid of those thoughts, she reluctantly swung her legs over the side of her bed, and stood up. Unfortunately, she had classes to get to today. Cara pulled open the curtains. The sun was barely up.
She arrived in the classroom, and sat with her friends, listening to their conversations. It all seemed so.. normal.
Missouri found them a little while later. Sat by them and offered Cara a slight smile.
God, somehow he could still smile. She wasn’t sure what she hated more, the fact she was so weak, or the fact that he could stay strong.
She looked down, though her head shot back up after noticing something. “Missouri, what happened to your hands?”
“Ahh,” He looked at his hand, and the bandage around it. “I burned it while cooking. Real bad. I’ve been so out of it lately, I didn’t notice it when it happened. Until I did notice, and then suddenly it hurt.”
“Oh... well, be careful not to make it worse. And maybe I can research for something to help it not hurt so bad.” She said, pulling out her phone.
“No need, you don’t have to. Don’t worry about me.”
“Nah, it’s no problem. ...besides, it would help get my mind off other things...”
“Of course, go ahead then.” He looked down at the table, and fell silent, his smile- however slight it may have been- already fading.
Cara felt even worse for bringing it up again. She lay her head on the table, and once again paid no attention to the class when it began. _______________
Maine at that moment was in hell.
She had spent the night crying herself to sleep.
And when she woke up she felt no better.
Missouri had gotten bleach to take the black streak out of her hair. After giving all his reasons on why he must- Mostly that she had dyed it in rebellion against him, which Maine couldn’t deny as it was true- he bleached it and left that strip of hair a discolored blonde.
But she could live with that.
It was the fact the afterward, he had taken the remaining chemicals and dumped them on her arms and hands.
She had yelled at him, shouted. He couldn’t- He had stopped her there. Saying softly that he could do whatever he wanted. She had managed to grab his hands, and got the bleach on him to. He’d yelled at her for that. Hit her. Probably left the substance on his hands for to long, she could see them turning red as he left.
He’d probably washed it off as soon as he could. Maybe bandaged it so people wouldn’t notice.
But he didn’t do anything to help her. Just left the bleach on her skin, and left her there for hours. It burned, and stung. Worse when she touched them to something. Couldn’t even lay down without it hurting. And it only got worse.
Her own personal hell, complete with burns.

“Do I really need to go?” You hesitantly took the clothes your friend had handed you as you sat on the edge of her bed comfortably wearing a school sweater and shorts.
“Yes! It’s your first ever college party as a first-year. I want you to meet some of my friends too!” She stood you up from her bed and pushed you toward her bathroom, making you try on the outfit she handed you, which you assumed looked similar to hers. She wore the typical high waisted leggings with the colorful crop top that showed off her waist very easily. F/N was a second year at S/N so you trusted her because you had known her since the beginning of high school. She inspired you when you first met to go here, but as she finished her testings and her senior year at high school, she began to loosen up a lot, showing more of her colors at fuller vibrancies. She had invited you out of the blue, specifically last night to come to this party with her, but you knew as a first-year and as yourself, it would be pretty awkward since you didn’t know anyone except F/N.
“F/N, I’m not really sure about this…” You spoke through the bathroom door.
“About what? The outfit? Does something not fit?” She called from her desk asks eh made final touches to her makeup.
“Just about everything - the outfit, the party... I’m not going to know anyone there and hey, you still haven’t told me where it even is.” You looked over yourself in the mirror.
“Don’t worry!” She said cooly, brushing away your worries. “And you know me! I’ll introduce you to everyone there! You’ll become so popular! Also, come out if you’re done! I wanna see.” Just seeing yourself in her clothes made you feel wrong, feel so exposed.
You opened the door, seeing her head suddenly turn towards you and a smile spread across her face. “Wow! Look at you! I’ve never seen you in such fitting clothes before!” As much as you loved her, you couldn’t help but cross your arms over your body, not wanting to be seen by anyone, even by her. “Who knew you had such a hot body, Y/N!” She whistled cooly before she pulled you to her desk. “Okay, one last touch.” She grabbed her brushes, but before she could apply anything to your face, you stopped her. “I don’t really want to go already, so could I not wear makeup?”
Sensing your uncomfort, she put down her brushes. “Fine, but maybe just a little lip tint? You can wipe it off whenever, but just please a little something?” She made puppy eyes at you, making you unable to deny her at least this much. After nodding and getting lip tint applied, the two of you were off. The campus was still vague to you but you knew some general areas. The campus was huge with the multiple sports stadiums and athletic facilities to the off-campus shopping centers right at the edge of the gates. Multiple apartment buildings were lined at the edge as well for students who didn’t want to pay the resident housing tuition, settling for a shared condo or apartment. As you began to walk off-campus, you couldn’t ignore the queasy feeling as you moved towards the houses, specifically, the sorority and frat houses. As the two of you turned the corner, a certain house caught your attention: you could hear the bass of the music already and it grew louder as the two of you approached it.
“Ah, I’m so excited, come on!” F/N pulled your hand, bringing you closer, making you regret not declining her invitation. Colorful lights shone through the curtains of the house as well as hoots and hollers of various people in the backyard doing whatever. Entering the house, music blared against your ears. Various fumes of things floated around the house as soon as you entered and to say they were unpleasant would be an understatement. The house was quite filled with various people who you assumed went to school as well. Red solo cups were seen everywhere your eyes went and soon you found yourself looking for F/N.
It was as if she disappeared into thin air. You suddenly felt a body press against your back, feeling hot skin against your exposed self. “Hey there, wanna go upstairs?” A guy wrapped his arms around you as his hands felt your waist, feeling up your body.
“Please don’t touch me.” You turned to face him, backing away until you bumped into a couple of girls you didn’t know. They shot you a glare before they turned back to the dance, pressing themselves up against other guys, some shirtless for some reason.
“There you are!” You felt a hand grab your wrist and turned to luckily find F/N. She held some guy’s hand while the other held a solo cup. He wore tropical shorts with a tropical shirt buttoned a bit too low. “Hey!” She turned to the guy. “This is Y/N, my friend I told you about!” She yelled into his ear over the music.
“Hey, nice to meet you.” He shook your hand, but you felt his eyes looking up and down your body, making you squirm in your skin.
“Yeah…” You took your hand back, crossing your arms over your chest, wishing you were back at your dorm.
“Y/N, this is my boyfriend! Do you want anything to drink, by the way?”
“I’m good. I don’t really drink at all… Plus I can’t…”
“Right. Let me show you around.” She released her boyfriend’s hand and took yours instead, leading you through the crowd to whoever she found first, but you couldn’t get the look her boyfriend gave you as he watched you walk away with his eyes wandering your body.
Throughout the night, she first began to introduce you to whoever she found in the crowd, but as she introduced more and more people, you realized they were people you would never actually get along with or become actual friends. They were all older and you were hoping to come to S/N and meeting people your age.
As it got later and later, some people began to leave but others came late as well, making it seem like this party would never end. F/N was nowhere to be seen, but you were honestly relieved since she had begun to play certain games that you wanted no part in at all. But it also worried you for her safety and for your sake since you were going to spend the night in her dorm. You had a rough map of the first level of the house in your mind and you marked off the kitchen as one of the places where you shouldn’t go as people gathered around the table, letting loose through the use of a certain plant being passed around. You honestly didn’t really know where to go except for one of the “quieter” areas where people just sat or stood around, and the music was still loud, but just a little bit quieter.
You sat in one of the cleaner looking chairs, distracting yourself on your phone, ignoring the people passed out sleeping on the ground, making out against the walls and on the couch, and avoiding eye contact with anyone.
“I really shouldn’t have come…” you thought to yourself as you imagined all the possible things you could have been doing instead tonight.
“Hey, you look like you could use a drink.” A guy appeared in front of you, handing you a cup. From what it seemed, it looked like he was the most dressed guy here.
“Sorry, but I don’t drink,” you said as you pushed away his offer.
“Well.” The guy said as he moved the leg of the passed out guy on the couch and sat beside you. “Lucky for the two of us, I don’t either. So don’t tell, but.” He leaned closer. “This is actually soda,” he whispered, holding both the cups up.
For the first time tonight, you showed a genuine smile and took the cup after he smiled. “I’m Brian.” He reached his hand out, shaking yours.
“I’m Y/N.”
The two of you sat there and talked, beginning to get to know each other, enjoying your sodas. As it got later, however, you could feel yourself get tired, feeling your eyes get heavier and heavier. You began to yawn trying to stay awake, listening to what he had to say until you flopped over the arm of the chair, barely conscious.
“Let me take you upstairs. You can sleep here tonight.” You heard Brian whisper in your ear. The room felt like it was spinning as he hoisted your body up from the chair, with one of your arms loosely around his shoulders.
“Oh yeah, Brian!” Some guys began to cheer him on as they watched him take you towards the stairs. He smiled brightly to them as if bringing you upstairs was an accomplishment.
The music drowned in your ears, feeling like everything was slowing down all around you. Suddenly, you were sat at the bottom of the stairs and you could hear the music soften a bit as well as some guys shouting.
“What do you think you’re doing to her?”
“Relax man, I was just trying to have a good time with her,” Brian smirked, only to realize he had made a mistake. The guy who held the collar of his shirt tightly gripped it even tighter, lifting him a bit off the ground. His eyes pierced into Brian’s even into the dim lights of the party and his tone had changed.
“Don’t you dare touch her. Ever again. She’s coming with me.”
“Listen, I’m sorry man. I didn’t know she was yours.” Brian stammered over his words as Jeno released his collar. He backed off immediately, returning to the party as he approached your nearly unconscious state as you sat dizzily on the stairs.
“Y/N? It’s me, Jeno.” He knelt before you, brushing your hair from your eyes, trying to see them. “I’m going to take you back? Okay?” His thumbs rubbed your cheeks as he tried to wake you up. “Y/N?” He was able to shake you awake for a brief moment.
“I’m going to-” he was cut off as you nodded, holding his arm as he held you. He could feel his anger rising within him as he tried to get you to your feet without hurting you and seeing the guys who cheered Brian on in his peripheral vision. He walked carefully, almost lifting your feet off the ground as he walked you to his car, sitting you in the front seat. As he buckled you in, he could see the goosebumps rising over your skin. From the backseat, he grabbed one of his sweaters, draping it over your shoulders, covering your body. He drove away from the house, from the party Jaemin had invited him to, only to show up late because of work. But now he wanted you to be safe and he wanted to take care of you.
He parked at the end of the block, feeding you water, hoping you regain consciousness. He looked around you, seeing no pockets or keys, except for your phone. He sighed as he started the car and drove back to his shared apartment with his roommates, Mark, and Renjun.
The drive wasn’t too long, only about ten minutes until he pulled into the parking lot, seeing the lights in the apartment on. He pulled out his phone as he walked over to the passenger side of the car where you were and called Mark,
“Hey, unlock and open the door for me.”
“Why? Don’t you have keys?” He heard Mark get up from wherever he was regardless.
“I do, but I can’t really use them right now, so just do it.” He said briefly before hanging up. He unbuckled the seatbelt and lifted you into his arms with his jacket still over you. He leaned your head against his shoulder as he carried you up the steps of the apartment until he reached the door where Mark stood. His mouth was agape when he saw Jeno turn the corner.
“Woah, what happened?” He closed the door as Jeno walked past him, holding you close. He set you down on the couch carefully as Renjun came out of the bathroom with his hair damp and a towel wrapped around his neck.
“Jeno,” he gasped. “Did you kill someone?” He covered his mouth jokingly, acting surprised.
“Very funny,” Jeno responded, fake laughing. “But no.” He sat on the edge of the coffee table and he leaned forward, brushing a few strands of your hair from your face.
“Wait, is this? Y/N? The one younger than us?” Mark asked as he walked around the coffee table, getting a better look. “Why is she here? What happened? I thought you were going to Jaemin’s party?”
“Y/N? As in the Y/N who Jeno always gets silent about when she’s mentioned, Y/N?” Renjun smirked as he nudged his shoulder playfully.
“Hush, Renjun and I were. As soon as I got there after work, I saw this guy try to take her upstairs but she was barely conscious. Pretty sure her drink was spiked.” He looked back at you.
“Did you beat the guy’s face in?” Mark genuinely asked out of curiosity.
“That would be such a Jeno type thing to do, especially since it was Y/N,” Renjun agreed, now standing behind Mark, leaning on his shoulder.
“...No,” Jeno responded, making Renjun gasp. “But I may have grabbed the guy’s collar tightly and mentally punched him multiple times in my head…” Jeno shied away, letting his voice get quieter and quieter as he spoke. He could still feel the anger and made a note to talk to Jaemin later about this Brian guy.
“I brought her back cause she didn’t have her key or anything except her phone on her.”
The two sat there, nodding along as they listened to Jeno. “Wow, who knew the cold Jeno could be so caring and soft?” Renjun shook his shoulders from behind.
“I know right. The one who would turn away other girls coldly yet everyone still falls for him. But wow, so you do have a heart when you care for someone,” Mark patted Jeno’s back as he headed to the kitchen.
“So you guys don’t mind that she spends the night? I’m gonna move her to my room and I’ll take the couch tonight.” Jeno asked as he watched his roommates prepare some ramen feast in the kitchen.
“Nah,” Mark responded as he cracked some eggs.
“Not at all. Just take her of her well,” Renjun added as he poured the ramen seasoning into the pot.
As the two began to cook, Jeno carried you to his bedroom where it was quieter and less chaotic. He removed your shoes, putting them at the edge of the bed and tucked you in beneath his covers, hoping you were comfortable. Jeno sat on the edge of the bed beside you, taking in your features. Deep down, it surprised him too how you were able to make him forget his words or what he was going to do next whenever you were nearby. But it was a surprise he got used to and a surprise he wanted to experience every single time with you. He stood from the bed as you slept soundly, breathing slowly, and grabbed his clothes, hopping into the shower.
The hot water covered his body as he showered, thinking back to how you had come into his life. He was a year older than you and from the end of elementary school, through middle school, to high school, the two of you had watched each other grow up. From his perspective, he was somehow attracted to you by some force he never knew. As he grew older, his heart began to harden and grow cold as he realized how cold the world really was, except when it came to you. He felt obligated to watch over you or to make sure you were okay, but as he moved on to college, he wasn’t able to see you every day.
But now that you were here, it felt like something to Jeno and he wanted to make sure you stayed in his life.
Jeno peeked once more into his bedroom, finding you now turned onto your side, still asleep. He joined Mark and Renjun in the living room as they ate their ramen feast, which then led to a gaming tournament.
“Jeno,” Renjun called from the couch as Jeno and Mark battled each other in their game.
“Hm?” He responded his eyes focused on the game.
“What exactly about Y/N makes you like freeze up?” He knew just bringing you up would make him falter- it was evident in the game as Mark was finally able to land some hits on Jeno’s character. “It seems like at times you just want to change the subject whenever she’s a topic of conversation, but at the same time, you don’t want the conversation to end?”
“Yeah, I’ve always been curious about that too,” Mark says with his eyes focused on the game.
As Jeno began to actually think about this question, Mark’s character began to catch up to Jeno’s character, leading to Mark’s victory as Jeno gave up and thought about you. “There’s… there’s just this feeling I get around her that I just want to… protect her? I don’t really know myself, it’s like an indescribably feeling, but just being around her feels nice…”
Renjun nodded, genuinely touched inside seeing Jeno actually have emotions and the capability to feel affection for someone. “You should ask her out. Who knows, maybe she feels the same way. I’m going to call it a night. I’ll do the dishes tomorrow. Goodnight guys,” Renjun says as he patted their shoulders heading off to his own room.
“I doubt she would want to go out with me. Plus it’s been a while since high school. I honestly didn’t know she was going to come to S/N of all places,” Jeno sighed as he put down the controller onto the TV stand, leaning back against the coffee table.
“You two didn’t keep in touch?” Mark asked as he did the same.
“Well, we sort of kept in touch in the beginning but I think from there, I began to drift cause of the process of getting here and from there, I just thought it would be awkward… I don’t really know,” Jeno sighed.
“Mm, well I agree with Renjun, and I think he’s right ‘cause you did save her from a total stranger at the party tonight and she’s safe.”
Jeno took their words into consideration and thought about how the two of you never really had any awkward or bad phases, but thinking about this now made him regret not reaching back out to you after that time. However, he didn’t want to risk losing you for good if he did take this chance.
“You should really shoot your shot, I think the result would surprise you too.” Jeno nodded in agreement, knowing he had some thinking to do tonight. “Alright, I’m going to call it a night, too,” Mark yawned. “Goodnight.”
“Night…” Jeno laid on the couch by himself, staring up into the ceiling as the light from the kitchen shined into the livingroom. Moments from the party, before and after, played in slow motion in his mind. The flame of anger sparked a bit when his memory went through the part when he walked through the door, seeing you being pulled up the stairs by some guy. He imagined all the things, at this point, he sort of wished he did and said to him. Moments of the few nights before when Jaemin had invited him flashed through his memory. If he hadn’t given in to Jaemin, or if Jaemin hadn’t egged him into going, who knows what could have happened to you. Honestly, as upset as he was about finding you there, he was relieved that he was able to bring you somewhere safe like Mark had said.
He sat up and got off the couch, and headed toward the kitchen, telling himself he was going to turn off the lights, but suddenly, his ajar door made him make a detour to his bedroom. You slept soundly as he approached quietly. You turned a bit as he stood beside the bed and he tucked you in for the last time tonight. He turned off the lamp and plugged your phone into the charger, shutting the door behind him as he finally turned off the kitchen light and laid on the couch. He pushed the thought of asking you out to another time into a corner of his mind.
Your mind began to spin as your sore, tired eyes began to flutter open. You slowly pushed yourself up on the soft bed, holding your head at the same time. Your jaw was clenched shut, hoping you wouldn’t throw up. You rubbed your hands on the soft bed, under the blankets and pillows looking for your phone, fortunately finding it charged on the nightstand beside the bed. “3:24 am” your phone read. No messages or any calls from F/N or anyone. You turned your legs, swinging them over the edge of the bed and slowly slid off, landing gently on your feet. You braced the bed as you slowly adjusted, taking it easy. “Where am I?” you thought to yourself as you wobbily walked across the room to the neatly organized desk. You turned on the flashlight of your phone, seeing if there was a way to find out where you were until something on the shelf above the desk caught your eye: a picture frame. You looked closely at the picture frame, adjusting your eyes to the sudden light and that’s when you knew where you were: Jeno’s room. “Where is he?” You turned back to the bed, finding no one else. You slowly walked out the bedroom door, making your way through the quiet and dark apartment.
As you approached the living room, you heard light snoring growing louder as you grew closer. You could see a little bit from the moon shining into the living room and that’s when you saw Jeno asleep on the couch. “Jeno?” You whispered as you knelt beside the couch. He seemed so peaceful asleep and you felt the pang of regret go through your chest, knowing you could have talked to him in the morning. “Sorry, you’re asleep…” you began to slowly get back up and make your way back to his bedroom when you felt a grasp at your hand.
“What is it? Are you okay?” Jeno sat up immediately as if he was awake already. He walked you to the kitchen, switching on the light, looking at you. “Is something wrong?”
“No! I just- I just wanted to know how and why I’m… here.” You said, feeling insecure as the uncomfortable feeling of eyes on you grew. You instinctively used your other arm to cover your bare waist as Jeno held your other hand.
Without missing a beat, Jeno walked back to his room, grabbing one of his long sleeves and handed it to you when he returned. You took it and wore it, making his heart flutter seeing you wearing his clothes. “Thanks…”
“Yep… Uh right, so I went to the party and when I got there, I saw this guy try to take you upstairs, so I set him straight and brought you back here instead…” Jeno pulled out a chair for you at the table and he sat at the adjacent side of the table. “Uh, do you want anything to drink?” Jeno suddenly stood back up, making his way to the cupboards.
“Could I have some water, please?” You asked.
“Yeah, of course.” He poured out some water for the two of you and sat back down in his seat. His heart hammered in his chest as he tried to find the right thing to say.
“Honestly, I didn’t really want to go… My friend, F/N, she’s in your year, she wanted me to come along so I could make friends, but as soon as she gave me this outfit, I really didn’t want to go…” You said as you held the mug. “But thank you, Jeno, for being there tonight… I honestly don’t really know what I would have done or anything if Brian brought me upstairs…” You looked up, meeting his dark eyes which seemed to somehow shine even in this dim lighting. You gave him a sweet smile making him ball his fists beneath the table and making him scream mentally. It had been so long since the two of you actually talked.
“Jeno, I-”
“Y/N, ca-” The two of you cut each other off as the two of you began to speak, filling the silence. “You first,” Jeno responded.
“Sorry, I just wanted to say… that I missed you… I thought after your senior year, I wouldn’t get to see you again… But here we are,” you said as you tried to laugh it off.
“I missed you too,” he smiled sweetly as he took back his initial thoughts for now. “What made you come to S/N?” He asked changing the subject.
“Well… I’m going to tell you a secret,” you said as you scooched a little bit closer like you always did from when the two of you were young. “I told people I came here cause of F/N, but really… I hoped to see you again…” you felt the burning rush of adrenaline and slight embarrassment saying this out loud to the guy you had fallen for all those years ago.
Jeno was taken aback. He was absolutely speechless. “Does… Does this mean I can ask her?” “Really… wow. Uh, can I ask you something?”
“Sure, what is it?”
“Well, this may be hard to believe too, but.” He moved even closer to before which was rare since he wasn’t the type to share many secrets in the first place with you. “I really hoped we could meet again one day too… Ever since we were young, whenever you were around, I honestly froze or didn’t know what to say and it surprised me, so will you be with me and continue surprising me?” He finally asked.
Now it was your turn to be taken aback. You looked into his eyes as if he had just told you he was a ghost or something. “I… yes.”
It didn’t seem like it on the outside, but Jeno’s heart did countless flips in his chest. He simply smiled and pulled you close into his arms, finally doing what he had always wanted to do.

The diaries started as a joke, and Alec Could see Y/N was not taking her assignment seriously, he could even imagine Dr. Florence exasperated expression reading them, as much as he remembered the way she looked at him when talked about his own dreams. But every now and then there was some real opinion about her life.

08:00 am. I get to school and I didn't take breakfast, I had a boring morning, as boring as this bloody activity. Sorry doc, but you clearly fail on this one.
10:00 am That was rude I know, but what else you want me to tell, I had a boring lunch and I have a call from Jonathan's mother, I get it the ring was important and I know how much she doesn't me to take away her son, she doesn't have to be that bitchy about it.
By the time he reach the last five days he listened to the tape as he was reading, there were just little more details about what she ate, barely anything, and the people she talk around the day. One detail call his attention, apparently Paul was indulgent enough to let her drive for brief moments in straight lines, and Hardy was not sure if it was relevant for the case or not.
Then he finally found the recollection of the night she went out drinking with Ashley, she usually put on hours before writing so the doctor would follow better her descriptions.
2:30 - I just came home and took a shower, I'm sorry Doc, you will be receiving this one way late than usual, and please don't worry, I went for drinks with Ash as I told you yesterday I would, do you actually read this? I would hate to imagine a woman like you sitting at home alone waiting for my poor written crap. Anyway, I'll tell you a secret I didn't drink today, we were at the club at 10 but stupid Jonathan called me to tell me that I shouldn't be going out with, I told him where he could put his opinion, but I listen and took only mocktails, Ash didn't notice I think, she was so funk I even drove back, thankfully the streets were empty, I hope she didn't eat me out with Jonathan, and I will apologize to him lateer in the morning, I will tell him: I can't wait to be doing this for the rest of our lives.
I haven't told hin about your plann of putting me on medication, I will surprise him with it when he gets back, that would definitely make him happy.
"Hardy, Paul Coates is here, he wants to talk to you" One of the agents said and he immediately pull the papers behind some other files, they felt like something private not sure why.
"Sure, tell him I'll be out in a minute" He said and once he was away he move to close the blinds and the door of his office.
But if I'm completely honest I'm not sure if he actually wants me to get bettr or just wants me to be what he wants, as you said we all put on walls, and as I tried to move on from mine and from the memory of parents stopping me from getting out of Broadchurch I let Jonathan trapped me in litral walls in our huse, and the walls made of love that I built to keep me from telling him that I want to drive, that I need to work, that I'm capable, anyway have a nice night or morning or whatever time is you are reading this, I'll send you the next entry tomorrow.
Alec checked the time when Dr Florence received the document 2:53 am, so a few minutes after she wrote it, wich was obvious since it had several misspellings and missing letters.
He had already checked the traffic cameras around her home and all her movements checked out, there at 1:52 am just a few miles before the dirty road to her cottage he identified the car that should belong to Langford, and then the same car leaving at 2:05 however the first time he didn't notice that she was the one driving, and then Ashley driving back, apart from that her story checked out.
He stood up and walk to a waiting room where Paul was sitted , he respected the reverend but sometimes his good intentions could be too much.
"DI Hardy" He said always polite standing up to shake his hand "I'm sorry to bother you but is about Y/N"
"Do you have new information about the case?" Hardy said dryly, and sitedin front of him "I believe Miller already talked to you this morning, and I don't have more to say apart from that"
"No, I already say everything I know, is just I figured since Y/N is not going to be able to go back to his place because of ... the investigation and that" he frowned thinking about Jonathan's body "I thought maybe she could stay at the church, we always have a spare room and well since her family is not around I figured ..."
"How did you know she is getting free?" Alec interrupted him.
"Well I don't think she is responsible for anything" He started clearly surprised that he questioned that.
"Ah, you think you can do my job better than me?" Hardy said, clearly about to loose his temper.
"I just think, or at least I like to think I'm better at knowing people" Paul was more serious, and Hardy was shock by that, maybe it was the years of tragedy he had face with the town, or maybe it was something more personal.
"Oddly how things turn out isn't it? The fiance is gone, and now she goes back to you, and you even want her to live with you. And you are no longer with Becca do you? All seems way too convenient don't you think?" He said looking for something in the priest face, but there was only indignation.
"What are you suggesting? Really? You are going to questioning me?" He said and Hardy just remained silent with her arms crossed "Fine if I you need to know, and I'm surprised Ellie hasn't told you yet, I know her ages ago, her, Ashley we went to school together, and we were together for about one year, I don't know she was 26 at the time. And we broke up because I was busy with the church and we have been friends since then." He said quickly and Alec nodded.
"And you were friends with Norbury?" Alec asked not sure on why he wanted to know.
"I introduced them, a few weeks after he move here he began helping me at the church, and she often volunteers to watch the trouble makers, she must have watch Tom and Danny a couple times back in those days" a shadow of sorrow crossed his face remembering the young kid, something that happened often in broadchurch "I actually forgot to tell something to Ellie" He said remembering suddenly "I don't think is relevant but anyway, I am I meet Jonathan at a AA meeting, and that's why he started helping at the church. He had troubles with drinking at London that's why he came here."
"Did he ever relapse?" Alec ask suddenly with all his alarms on "Like recently?"
"Not that I know, he didn't want Y/N to know about it, and I ask him to talk to her before the wedding, I'm not sure if he did" The sad look was back now for his lost friend.
"She'll be out in fifty" Alec said standing up, and walking towards the door "You can wait for her here"
"What? Oh thanks, she has been trough a lot already, I hope I can help her out on this at least."
"You said her family is not around, what ever happened to them?" He said suddenly stopping at the door.
"They died, in a car accident ten years ago, she was about to leave town, she was not living with them anymore, she was the youngest and they care for her a lot, but after that she felt guilty I guess, she started coming more to church and her problem got worse for a few weeks, I hope that doesn't happen again".
"Sure" Hardy said and walked fast to the interrogation room where Y/N have spent the night. He found her sitted in the same place, and she had clearly been crying, he felt sorry for her, but he had to get things clear first.
"You lied to us" He started siting in front of her. "You drove home on Friday morning out of the bar" She only nodded and took a sip of the water bottle she hasn't touched yet.
"I'm sorry" Y/N said with a throaty voice "I did, I know I'm not supposed to but I actually can drive very well, and I haven't drink that night it, I thought it was safer if I take the wheel than Ash, but she was stubborn enough to drive back herself"
"Any particular reason on why you don't drink?" He asked not giving it much importance.
"I really don't like it that much, and it worsens my anxiety, so I may take a glass of wine here and there, I think that's why I blacked out so long two weeks ago I did drink a few more shots than my usual three" she said putting her hair behind her ear "He was in AA" She said biting her nails "Or at least I think he was, someone left a voice message about changing the hour for the meeting" She face Hardy with red eyes but she didn't cried, not anymore.
"Do you ever saw him drinking?" He asked and his mind was still in the coroner report trying to remember what he said about the content of the stomach.
"No, also he always had "Boy's night" with Paul on the day I knew he had his AA meetings, is weird how any of them thought I will figure it out" She had a sad smile on her face "I always thought he was a terrible liar because of it"
"You can leave, reverend Coats, amm Paul is waiting for you" She gave him a surprise look.
"Why is Paul here?" She asked then putting up her hands so he could uncuffed her.
"You can't go to your own place, we are still looking for evidence there" Alec said avoiding her gaze.
"Detective Hardy, do you believe me?" She asked caressing her wrist, they felt numb after all that time.
"Is there a reason I shouldn't?" He asked looking at her straight in the eyes.
"No, but earlier it felt like you thought it was me" She said.
"I don't have to believe you or not, I make questions and I follow evidence, and evidence doesn't suggest you did it" He avoided answer her directly.
"Then can I ask you a favor?" She said standing up. "When you find who did this to us, and I have faith in you to do it, if is someone I know, please don't tell me" Her voice was low and almost imperceptible and he had to bend over the table to listen better.
"Why?" He asked in a whisper almost as quiet as hers.
"Because I would hate them, and I would want to kill them, and I don't want to be that kind of person" She said and he could see the fear and sorrow in her eyes, and felt grateful that another officer entered to take her way from him. He went back to his office trying to forget that look when Miller walked in.
"Did you let her go? Paul told me on the way out she would stay at the church, that seems fine for now" She said looking at him but he was apparently not listening. "Ready to go see his apartment?"
"What does the coroner said about his stomach?" He asked suddenly leaning back on his chair.
"Vodka? Whiskey? Some sort of alcohol, why?" She asked curious.
"Yeah, something like that, come on Miller we can't lost more time" There he is, Miller smile when he put on his coat again and start walking outside. "By the way, I haven't told you this" He turned at her with a odd expression in his face "I am in therapy with Dr. Florence, I have been there for a few months now, is not important, I just thought you should know" He nodded and kept walking.
"Ok, sure, fine. That's great" Miller said against her impulse of asking more, she was glad he shared that of course, but she knew how hard must have been for him to admit it. "Anyway Becca Fisher owns the apartment where Norbury lived, she gave me the key"
They walked out and Alec started telling her about Jonathan's problem with alcohol, and a few other details he learned that morning but leaving out all about the diaries. He was sure as much as Ellie that Y/N was innocent but that only made things more complicated and he was hoping for a new lead to appear at the apartment, Please don't tell me her voice resonated in his mind and when he closed his eyes he could see her face. This was getting more and more difficult every minute.
I wasn't sure if people was actually reading this, but I'm glad they are, so if you want to be in the tag list just say so and I would gladly add you.
