Colourblind (Marco x Reader x Thatch)
i got @cyborg-franky in the @onepiece-reader-exchange
word count: 3,302 | they/them | gender neutral reader | soulmate au (you can only see in black and white until you meet your soulmate)
Tumblr media
You're 6 years old the first time you ask your mother why the world you see is so bland and why this so called colour that your biology teacher talks off is so bleak when it comes to your eyes. All she can do is laugh, moving to sit down next to you on the floor of the family bar as she begins to explain the concept of soulmates.
"You're colourblind darling, you won't see colour until you look into the eyes of your soulmate."
Of course to a child this is just more confusion and your mother must sense it as she continues on, telling you "a soulmate is the person your soul is tied to, your destined other half who will complete you and make you feel complete."
"After-all", your mother continues on, "in a world where minks, giants and fishmen co-exist, it is only natural that soulmates exist to intertwine us all and make us better people."
Aged 10 is when you realise just how rare it can be to find your soulmate and just how many obstacles stand in your way. The world is wide and you live on an island located in Grandline, you are stuck hoping that your soulmate will sail into the port. But even that does not guarantee you will be given an opportunity where you are able to encounter them on the island and then look into their eyes.
Though the chances of you finding your soulmate on the island are low, you can't help but hope. Naturally, with said hope comes fantasy as your mind mixes up the beauty of your parents' soulmate match with the various daydreams about the type of partner your soulmate will be, creating a wide variety of perfect fantasy soulmates.
The children on the island would say you often seem lost in your own little world, sitting with your head in your hand and silly grin on your face in the corner of the classroom as you dream up these fantasies. Wondering to yourself if they will they be a pirate? A civilian? A marine? Will they be human or maybe one of the fishmen who often came through the island?
It's when you're 15 years old, slaving away at your family's bar on a Saturday evening when you first hear talk of the Whitebeard Pirates, of the dangers and heroic tales of their Captain who is said to be able to crack the very air around him.
Despite being older than the young children sitting awestruck around the table currently held by Roger Pirates, you find yourself being drawn towards the source of the words, a pirate named Gol D Roger, until you're left standing still behind the children and hugging the ale jug against your chest hooked on every word.
The tales of the Whitebeard have you fascinated and addicted, chanting along with the young children for more and demanding the raven haired captain tell of his own adventures along the Grandline.
Unfortunately, you are faced with reality moments into a tale about the journey to an island in the sky and reminded that you should be working on clearing the surrounding tables. So clean the surrounding tables you do, hanging on the every word you are able to hear and desperate to hear more.
The universe seems to be on your side however, as the Roger Pirates decide they quite like your family's bar and come back the next day offering a solid bar of gold for information on the sites of the island, alongside a paid night of drinking for everyone who shows up to drink with them. The night consists of cheers, heroic tales, laughter and the start of a new friendship.
The new friendship starts with a tug on your apron from the boy with long red hair from the Roger Pirates (tugging a blue haired pirate closely behind him of course), who seems excited to have an opportunity to make a new friend in the two weeks they plan to stay on the island. Over the course of the night as you serve the two boys glasses of apple juice that they pretend is beer, you learn their names are Shanks and Buggy, that they're apprentices for the crew and that they're soulmates.
Upon learning the last detail you feel a small bubble of jealousy rise in you, they're both younger than you and yet they've beat the unlikely odds of meeting each other. Alongside meeting, they've gotten to travel the whole Grandline on a famous Pirate group together.
But despite the initial jealousy a cycle is started alongside the friendship, the Roger Pirates coming in during the night to drink and the young apprentices coming to see you during the day to explore the island and building silly childhood (but still unforgettable) memories together.
It is during one of these days that you ask the two boys to describe what colour looks like and if it truly lights up the world around you. This prompts Shanks to ask you what you think your soulmate will be like and what you want them to be like. With the two boys encouraging you to be open with them and promising they won't tell a soul what they say, not even their captain, you find yourself opening up about your daydreams and your wants.
"I hope they will be a pirate like you both, I think that would be awfully exciting." You confess aloud for the first time, your hands suddenly seeming very clammy as you wipe them against the rough fabric of your shirt. The two boys are quick to grin and reassure you that they'll be hoping along side you that your soulmate is a pirate.
The Roger Pirates departure from your island two days later is filled with many tears and promises from the three of you to reunite, as well as promises to exchange frequent letters and transponder snail calls with each other.
One such letter that you receive a year later from Buggy details an encounter they had with the Whitebeard Pirates and mentions a young pirate apprentice on the crew your age named Marco, whom Buggy calls your type and jokingly writes that "he could be your soulmate, we both await your later confirmation".
Over the next 10 years Buggy and Shanks both emerge as Captains of their own crews (apparently Buggy didn't want to serve under Shanks' jolly roger due to his pride) but the joy is overshadowed by the earlier news of Roger's public execution. The island and the bar stay much the same despite this, such is the life of a small island located on the Grandline. But one small change does occur, the wanted posters of your favourite pirates begin to be pinned to the walls of the bar.
Ironically one of your favourite wanted posters pinned to the walls belong to the right hand man of the Whitebeard Pirates, Marco. The pirate Buggy wrote to you about all those years ago. Another favourite belongs to his fellow crewmate named Thatch.
Though you pretend to the curious children who wonder in asking about the pirates pinned to the walls that they're only your favourites because of the tales you've heard pass through the tables of the bar, the reality is that you think they're incredibly handsome pirates.
It's the week of your 26th birthday that finally brings the fated event, and an overall unique experience for the island that your mother jokingly calls your birthday gift from her (apparently she's not quite as obvious to your fascination as you thought). The Whitebeard Pirates arrive on your island to spend the next few days on land whilst they gather new supplies.
Naturally, as the bar known on the island for hosting pirates such as the Roger Pirates and the celebrated marine called Garp it's expected by your parents that the pirate crew will stop in at some point. Thus as you try desperately to squash the bundle of nerves growing in your stomach at the thought of meeting the Whitebeard Pirates (who you have been fascinated with for 10 years) whilst cleaning the tables in preparation for the fated evening.
The second day after their arrival brings 3rd commander Diamond Jozu and 16th commander Izo into the bar with various men under their divisions. Though it should be a normal day at work for you, you still find yourself stilling as Izo slides onto a bar stood in front of you and pushes a large bag of Bellis across the counter to you.
"Just an advance for the evening love, we look forward to the alcohol and food." He says with the elegant and stunning smile you've heard about from the female pirates who have passed through the bar before that had faced him.
The sight of the money seems to shake you awake, as you begin to prepare drinks of beer, ale and wine that you know the men before you will enjoy.
It's easy after you start working to settle into the role of the polite bartender that offers a smile with the ale, jokes about the posters pinned to the walls, tells them the bar's best food and asks them about their adventures, all while still focusing on not freaking out that these are the Whitebeard Pirates before you.
You become so focused in fact that the hours seem to blur together in your mind as a result of practised work ethic and general euphoria at the unique encounter with the crew. This focus is broken promptly at 9.37pm when the door is burst open and louder cheers of delight are raised from the men inside the bar. The cause of the cheers comes in the dominating form of the tall brunette man named 3rd commander Thatch, who strides over to the central table that has been unofficially claimed as the division commanders table.
At the sight of one of your favourite pirates before you has your cheeks flushing to what your mother would describe as a vibrant red, like a strawberry. It's a little difficult to control your heart and the heat of your cheeks in order to put the perfect bartender persona back on, but you manage to slip it on just in time for Thatch to call out to your father behind the bar for a beer.
The beer is passed onto your tray moments later with a wink from your father and a light hearted "go serve your favourite pirate" is thrown to your back as you walk towards the division commander table.
The polite bartender persona has slipped on just enough it seems because as you lean over the table in front of Thatch to place the mug, you look up at him to flash him a smile and happen to meet his eyes as you prepare to tell him to enjoy his drink.
Instead, the crash of a mug fills the air and the inside of the bar seemingly goes quiet. Your tray follows the mug to the floor as your hands fly to your mouth in shock, but the noise seems muffled to you, like it's taken place in another world because before you the world is suddenly bursting with more vibrant shades then you even know the words of.
"It's you." Your voice sounds shaky and breathless, but you decide to yourself that's it's rather natural given the circumstances.
"It's me." Thatch wears a cocky grin and is seemingly unnerved by the situation, but a slight tremble undertones his words and as you gaze upon your new found soulmate you notice his hands are slightly shaking.
It's then when you notice something is wrong. That something isn't how it's supposed to be in your fantasies. When Buggy had told you over sparkling apple juice in great detail what colours awakening in your eyes had felt like and how it had worked, he had never mentioned one eye bursting with colours before the other did. You can only see colour out of your right eye. Your left eye is devoid of colour.
Your brain stops functioning rationally after you notice this, your left hand flying to your eye as you try to rub it into bursting with colour and when that doesn't work you try blinking a series of harsh blinks. Then your ears seemingly unmuffle as a large, rough hand takes hold of your left one and gently pulls it away from your face.
"It's okay, that's fine for us. Please don't worry." Thatch's voice is calming and therapeutic to your hectic mind, which leads you to decide you could listen to it all day for the rest of eternity on this earth.
"What do you mean?"
"Do you mind following me outside? I think I should tell you this in private."
Thatch gestures with his head to the right, leading you to look around the room around you at the many silent pirates (and your confused parents) who are watching transfixed as the two of you talk, like you were some species they had never seen before in their adventures.
Thatch leads you outside, still holding your hand and pretending like it doesn't cause butterflies to fly in your stomaches. A comfortable silence surrounds you both as you both try to find an appropriate way to discuss what has just happen.
"You know, people pray in religious buildings every day for moments like the one when you just took my mind." You're the first to break the silence, blurting out the first thing that comes to your head.
You're answered with a deep laugh from the man before you and a very gentle squeeze to your left hand. It feels as if Thatch is scared to break you. Scared that if he lets you go you'll disappear like you're a figment of his imagination.
"I suppose so."
"So why did you bring me outside to talk."
Thatch stops then abruptly, turning to face you and opens his mouth to talk before he stops himself. It takes a moment or two for him to decide how to start the conversation and to gather his beating heart to a slower pace. "This is going to sound like a lot to take in but there's two of us." He stops for a second, hesitating before realising what he has just said doesn't make much sense, "I mean you have two soulmates. Me and Marco. There's three of us totalled now I suppose."
The mention of Marco has you go into hysterical laughter which Thatch seems to take as you not believing him. He opens his mouth to further his explanation but pauses when you raise your connected hands to stop him. Of all the chances, you have two soulmates (something not unheard of but still rather rare) and they're both the two pirates you fanciest the most during the past few years. Alongside that, one of them is Marco, the man whom Buggy had written to you about all those years ago.
"Take me to him." Your request seems to stun Thatch for a second, who would tell you many months later that he had already been preparing himself for a rejection from you in this very moment. But a grin quickly grows on his face at the request and he begins you gently pulling you along by your connected hands. Along the walk you struggle to take in the vibrant colours of the world around you, as you begin experience the world for it's true beauty.
Thatch seems to notice this as he begins asking you questions about you, your life and the family bar that shift your focus and distract you from the world around you. So distracted in fact that you don't notice until you're walking up a plank that you're walking onto the Moby Dick. The famous ship you had heard so many tales about from the pirates who had crossed it and from Shanks himself in his most recent letters.
Thatch would tell you years later how your eyes had lit up at the ship around you, how they had gone wide as you took it all in as he pulled you across the deck.
"Now who is this Thatch?" A booming voice echoes across the Moby Dick, stirring you from your fantasy and you turn your head just in time to see the greying and rather giant man. The very man Roger had told you about all those years ago, the man who could crack the very earth and defeat entire marine ships without even trying.
"Sorry can't talk Pops, looking for Marco" is all Thatch yells over his shoulder at his father who it would appear has seen this happen before, as he meerly mouths a simple "sorry" at you and lifts a giant hand to wave in your direction. It feels like a promise to met at a later date, but also like you've walked in on a private interaction with a teasing father like your own and a son. The situation feels surreal to you.
Thatch pulls you through several rooms and even more corridors on the Moby Dick before he eventually knocks on a room with an infirmary label on it. Despite the knocking, Thatch doesn't wait more than a moment before bursting through the door and dragging you along with him.
In the corner of the infirmary, a man with hair that can only be described as looking like a pineapple sits writing on a medical clipboard. It's Marco. The sight of the man pinned to the walls of your bar causes your cheeks to plush red again.
"Thatch, how many times have I told you that you can't just-" Thatch seems to burst in unannounced multiple times before as Marco begins reciting the telling off without even looking up. After he finishes writing his sentence on the clipboard, Marco looks up and immediately stops as he accidentally locks eyes with you in the process of looking for Thatch.
Then immediately your left eye bursts into colour, joining the right one in full colour only fifteen minutes after the initial encounter with Thatch. The experience has been rather overwhelming, going from learning your favourite pirate crew was on your island to finding a soulmate to discovering you have two soulmates, so the three of you settle into a comfortable silence again as they give you time to adjust to the latest development.
"I have dreamed of you for 26 years. I've never seen you or touched you, but I've yearned for you with all of my heart.” Marco is the first to break the silence, leaping up from his chair and promptly knocking it over as he strides across the room to stand before you. His words are romantic and well thought out, the perfect right hand man to the Emperor Whitebeard.
"You're both far more attractive than your Wanted posters." Is all you can think to blurt out in response in an attempt to flirt back with your newfound soulmate, causing fits of laughter to expel from both pirates.
"You seem to know who we are but I have yet to learn your name." Marco moves swiftly to take hold of your free hand and leans down to place a kiss on it. Thatch beside you fake gags at the sight, apparently not impressed with his boyfriend's flirting attempts.
"Y/N. My name is Y/N. It's a pleasure to meet you soulmates, I've fantasied about this day my entire life."
Now aged 25, writing a letter to Buggy whilst Marco and Thatch sleep beside you about how you've found your soulmates and informing him that you can now confirm Marco is your soulmate, you're happy to say that your world is not so bland and devoid of colour.

I think for all the discussions we have of "everyone hears the jokes and the piano; after that, they stop listening" surrounding Louis, we tend to still simplify his connection to the piano.
Yes, it's very cute that he sings Clementine a little song when they first meet, and it's very cute that he plays a little prank on her while "tuning" the piano. It's super cute that they carve their initials into the piano and Clementine carves a heart around them. It's mega cute that he names his song he wrote after her when she confesses her feelings. Louis playing Don't Be Afraid at the party is, in my opinion, one of the best moments in all of TFS.
But here's the thing: That piano is Louis' heart.
I don't mean to go all metaphorical on you, but I'm dead serious—the piano is Louis' heart, and when you think about his arc and his romance route with that in mind...?
That piano is his one comfort in a world where the dead walk. It's been with him from the beginning of the outbreak. We know from his backstory that Louis wanted to take singing lessons so he could be a real musician, and his father denying him of that was what set him off to be a "vindictive fuckhead." Louis never got those singing lessons, and it's a very real possibility that Louis taught himself how to play.
Sure, others could've taught him; we know Minerva was musically talented, perhaps she showed him a thing or two. But learning piano, or any instrument, is brutal even with professional guidance. It takes hours of practice until numbness wears fingertips raw; dedication to memorize every key and finger placement to make music pleasing to the ear; self-discipline to keep going through every fumble, every failure, every single cruel thought of self-doubt; intelligence and a creative ear to write his own songs.
And yet, it's severely under-appreciated by everyone. It's annoying. It's distracting. It's unimportant. It's an excuse for Louis to mess around and not do any real work. He doesn't have any actual talent. The music and the piano are brushed off, unheard.
Yet, Louis keeps playing. He keeps singing. He keeps making jokes.
Creating music, the one thing he wanted so badly as a kid that he destroyed his parents marriage, was possibly the greatest comfort he had... a welcome distraction to disassociate from the horror and death happening around him.
It's bittersweet, like a purpling bruise that you can't stop pressing on; it hurts, but there's something else below the pain. The piano is out of tune and it's something that brings him joy... but will always act as a constant reminder of who he was and what he did, why he's at Ericson to begin with.
We first meet him while he's playing; Louis' heart is exposed, but is it really? Is he playing to his true potential? Louis hides behind the mask of a charming, charismatic goof. It's what is expected of him, so he plays a silly song intended to poke and prod at Clementine, to gauge a reaction. That's something we see him do at multiple points in episode one. In fact, we can consider a majority of episode one to be like the song he's playing when we meet him; it's mostly cheery or fast-paced.
Louis is able to soothe AJ with his "alluring" music after the kid bit Ruby is an indication that the two of them will share a bond. Louis is a natural at communicating and bonding with the younger kids [another talent that's overlooked] so it's interesting that he praises AJ for being a natural at piano, as well.
But the song stutters just a bit when Louis and Clementine are in the woods together, though; "There's only one guarantee: this moment. That's the only you got, only thing any of us got. Might as well enjoy it." ...Only for Louis to compose himself and send her away.
It's only when Clementine has a gun in her face, held by Marlon, that the music isn't fun anymore; it's rainfall and thunder and the words "I thought you were more than that" sung through the wind in a melody only Louis can hear.
Then Marlon's dead. The song is over, and reality has arrived.
I've talked at length about Louis in ep2 and his vote in the past. It's one of the most compelling things about Louis' arc and romantic route. It's a tragic mistake driven by trauma and guilt. It's people simultaneously telling him to shut up and telling him to be angrier than he is. Telling him to stop burying his head in the sand when he's never been more aware of everything happening. It's AJ peering up at him with pleading eyes that Louis can't stand to look at. It's Clementine wrapping his heartstrings around her fingers and tugging just enough to hurt, but not break.
Louis missed Clementine. He says as much when Clementine admits she missed him first. I don't even know where to begin with that! I can think of no other way to describe it other than they are half agony, half hope over this... and if you get that reference, you get a gold star. I just- the ache, the tension, the conflicting feelings of finally having a quiet moment to talk but Louis not being ready yet.
Y'know how someone carved "you suck at playing" in the side of the piano? It's something you might not initially notice while playing the game, just as Louis' insecurities aren't apparent at first.. but they're carved in him; never fully healed, still scabbed and bleeding... Until Clementine offers him a bandage.
She won't clean the wound for him, but she'll be there. She'll help him figure out how to do it himself so he can heal. She'll listen to him, not belittle his feelings or pain. She'll make an effort to know his keys and notes and practice playing his song until she understands.
When Clementine chooses him to spend time with him, it's a mirror of their first time meeting... but this time, Louis plays something real: a song he wrote, one that I believe he crafted during the two week time skip... a song he wrote with Clementine on his mind, for better or worse.
If the piano is Louis' heart, he literally asks her to sit there and try to tune it, which ends up being a joke but I say she's already tuned your heart, my guy. It's there before them, changed in the warm candlelight. He plays for her and opens up about how no one actually listens, but Clementine did.
And remember, this is the night of the raid. They don't know it's coming, but they know it'll be soon. Louis understands that he could very well die, so what does he do? He carves his initial into the one thing he's always had, and he asks Clementine to do the same.
I'm sorry, how are we NOT more feral about this? Prior to this scene, the only thing we see carved into the piano, into Louis' heart, is an insult. This thing that Louis cares so deeply about, this instrument that's become so intertwined with who he is... he wants to leave his mark on it just in case he dies. A reminder that it was his and he belonged to it just as much. Something so important, and he asks Clementine to carve herself into his heart where no matter what, they will be immortalized together in this moment.
And when Clementine carves a heart around their initials? Yes, his reaction is very cute and that's great... but she's not ashamed of him, or her feelings for him. She wants everyone who looks upon his heart to know that. She tells him how she feels and Louis is so giddy, and warm, and he names the song after her and I am going to start biting anything that moves, I can't-
Oh, and let's discuss the party scene in episode three, shall we? Y'know, where the heart covered initials are on full display? Where Louis tells the story of why he was sent to Ericson to everyone?
Louis is so... vulnerable. Sincere. Ashamed of what he did. This is the exposed nerve, the one he was so afraid of showing Clementine but there it is... and she doesn't reject him. Sure, she can say it's fucked up if you choose to, but she doesn't break up with him over it.
Also the fact that everyone sitting around him finally listens when he's at his most unshielded only for Tenn to ask him to play Don't Be Afraid for them after...? How do you not see the connection? Are you trying to make me cry? In that moment, Louis' heart was heard and appreciated and beautiful and strong and-
Listen. I am fine. I'm so normal about this. And fine. I'm fine.
But I also have to add that during the walk in episode four, if you let Louis choose what to add to the imaginary house, he picks a brand new piano because he wants a new heart to reflect the confidence and growth Clementine helped him achieve and because he loves her and AJ so much that wants the new heart to not just be his but also theirs and I am so fine with this, okay.

It's canon. The way I see it, the events taking place in the fic and after it aren't canon but a lot of them significantly mirror and overlap with what I've had in mind, so the line is blurry in places. Character details like the one you mentioned are accurate, or at least I can't think of any that aren't.

Poll: What is, on average, the best Danganronpa chapter across the 3 mainline games?
AKA all Danganronpa murders are the same <3.
Parallels among the murders of the same chapter are listed below:
Chapter 1, AKA: "In a murder committed out of fear and panic, after dusk, in a location where the protagonist appeared shortly before, a strongly motivated individual, after taking initiative on their own, is murdered as a result of a betrayal by the protagonist's best ally, after which the corpse of the victim is found slumped on the floor and during the trial for which the blame is for a prolonged time placed on the protagonist or their ally (who was indeed involved, but ultimately is not the blackened)."
Chapter 2, AKA: "In an attempt to maintain allegiance to an important individual and to uphold a sense of honor for their Ultimate title, a capable classmate bludgeons to death the mentally strong yet physically weak (or mentally weak and physically strong) fan favorite (who therefore ends up dying too early) in a hands-on-hands physical confrontation, after which the placement of the corpse as well as the "perceived" crime scene is messed with to pin the blame on another person."
Chapter 3, AKA: "A-not-mentally-well-adjusted individual commits an immaculate and complicated double murder for a unthinkably irrational or amoral cause, which includes a body appearing at the crime scene out of nowhere in a seemingly impossible fashion, and in which one of the victims is the one who was lured out by the killer and willfully takes part in the action (but unknowing that it will result in their own murder) and in which the other victim ends up being the socially ostracized individual, simply because they happen to be at a wrong place at the wrong time."
Chapter 4, AKA: "Within a set-up for a locked room murder mystery, the good-hearted fan favorite becomes a part of a two-person life-and-death allegiance to perform a heroic act of self-sacrificial killing using an unknown murder method with the intention of getting themself killed so that everyone else may live, while one person is revealed to have had a deeper insight into the killing game for some time."
Chapter 5, AKA: "In an unsuccessful attempt to bring the killing game to its conclusion, the most malicious student of the class orchestrates an almost perfect, convoluted and seemingly unnecessarily but indeed intentionally violent murder (which serves as a way of mangling the corpse to a point where the murder method is concealed), whose solving hinges on the protagonist's new but trusted ally's confession about their not-really-consenting involvement."
Chapter 6, AKA: "After a retrospective investigation that brings to light new circumstances about the game's setting as well as its previous events, an existential crisis consumes the remaining survivors as the identity of the class and the killing game itself is revealed, during which Junko Enoshima appears (of course), and which ends with the true protagonist killing the mastermind in order to seek redemption, freedom and hope for their classmates.
P.S. This whole thing was primarily inspired to by my desire to prove Nagito's assumptions from chapter 4 wrong:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Most of these are fortunatelly not true when we also take V3 into account: while Rantaro was important, he wasn't stabbed; a serial killer was revealed in the third chapter, not the in the second; and I wouldn't exactly classify chapter 4 murder as a suicide in either sdr2 or v3 (though we DID have two people playing Russian roulette in the Funhouse, yikes). All in all, the murders wouldn't have been nearly as shocking if they correlated with what had been already pointed out in the second game before, so I'm not really surprised that there ended up being other similarities among the murders.
That's all, thank you for reading <3

WELCOME TO THE (UN)OFFICIAL WEIRDASS SHIP TOURNAMENT‼️
DO YOU:
- Have a rare pair so rare they never interact in canon? Or even exist in the same canon?
- Is literally only known by a small circle of friends and is completely incomprehensible to the average onlooker?
THEN THIS IS THE POLL FOR YOU‼️
THE SUBMISSION RULES ARE:
- CANNOT interact in canon! We are talking the obscurest of obscure. I need to have to hunt these character down and edit them into a photo in order for them to be valid. If I google their names together and can easily find official pictures of them hanging out it’s invalid(exceptions can be made depending on circumstances)
- CAN be from different source material. Literally anything goes!! Anime character and Spongebob? OKAY!!! Two characters from the same show who’ve never interacted?? YES!! I’m looking for ships you need to explain the development of. There needs to be a lore.
- CANNOT have a mass following. Once again, I’m looking for ships that can only be comprehended by a group of friends with insider knowledge. So things like BBC Sherlock’s mormor, despite being a ship wjere one of the characters technically doesn’t exist, doesn’t count on account of being immensely popular and having several hundreds of fics made for them. WE’RE TALKING WEIRD. RANDOM. OBSCURE. There’s gotta be like 5 fics of them MAXIMUM(exceptions can be made if they’re all by the same one or two very dedicated ppl)
- ALL SUBMISSIONS WILL BE JUDGED BY DEDICATION NOT NUMBERS!!! I want you FIGHTING for your LIFE to justify why your blorbos are not only weird but extremely valid to ship. I want to see essays with the same passion and effort youd put into your English paper worth 50% of your grade.
AND THE POLL RULES ARE:
- NO REAL LIFE PEOPLE. streamers count.
- I have full control of who gets in or not. Once again, we are going by dedication, not numbers. Please don’t be upset if your blorbos do not make it in. I f things go well, I’ll probably do this again, so you’ll likely have more chances to see them submitted.
- I DO NOT HAVE ENCYCLOPEDIC KNOWLEDGE OF EVERY MEDIA EVER. while i will go out of my way to do background checks of any character I don’t recognize, I’m not very smart. If a ship gets in that’s in some way notably problematic, I assure you I did not know!! Please just DM me about it if it happens!!!
- I don’t want to see any trash talking towards other opponents. This is a for fun poll! Please have fun. Discover new weird ships to have. Form weird ship polycules with the opponents and kiss or smth. If I see any vile behavior in the polls you will be blocked.
- unfortunately I am a human bound by feelings and bias. This was originally just going to be a ‘weird a3 ships’ thing before I decided to branch out since I doubt I’d get many submissions sticking to one fandom. If you see a lot of a3! Specific ships thats because I have a lot of friends who are all individually buckwild about certain weird ships.
- ALL PROPAGANDAIS NOT ONLY BELOVED AND ADORED BUT ENCOURAGED!!! GO APE!!!
THE SUBMISSIONS WILL LAST UNTIL MAY 15TH GMT -4‼️ (<- linked here)
(Should a date be needed I will specify later down the line. I will give more than enough time with a heads up for when I close submissions, so you do not have to worry about being too late to submit your blorbos.)
I WOULD LIKE TO GIVE SPECIAL SHOUTOUTS TO @pinkandbluebracket @redandyellowbracket @a3outfitstournament AND @greenhairandpronouns-tournament FOR MAKING POLLS SEEM FUN AND SILLY AND THUS MY ENCOURAGEMENT TO MAKE MY OWN!!! ALSO BECAUSE TAGGING SEEMS CUSTOMARY

Richard,
I hope you don't mind, but I happened upon you deep in thought in the castle courtyard and...well, the sight took my breath away.
I used a Muggle contraption (I believe they call it a camera) to capture these still images. You look almost corporeal...

E 🖤
E, my dear,
I am most intrigued by this Muggle contraption, and even more so — by how well you were able to capture me and my heart with it. And what a coincidence! I must admit, I had no idea that anybody was there at the time as I was most likely preoccupied with matters regarding me... Well, you said it yourself, looking corporal. If you have the time, allow me to explain.
You see, for the past two weeks I have been experimenting with something known as ancient magic. I cannot really see it but I can feel it when I am somewhere near the source, and I can really feel it if I touch it. If I spend plenty of time doing just that and focusing on being corporal — I seem to become so! Well, whatever part of me is surrounded by magic anyway.
That photo you took — I believe it was the first time that I have attempted to fully step into the stream of magic a day or two ago. The reason I needed to conduct some experiments first is rather serious as well: when the magic starts sipping away (and it never holds for longer than one day) I... Well, I am yet to find a way to make the transition back to my ghostly form less painful. As much as I was craving to feel, I forgot that pain is an integral part of life as well.
Needless to say that as fun as being able to be me again was, by the time I walked all the way back to the castle in my human form (and I got lost so many times since I could not just fly above the land toward the castle, oops) I was so tired that I just fell asleep on a bench somewhere near that area your camera captured me. When I woke up — I was a ghost again. At the very least, whatever pain I might have gone through that night, I slept through it.
I do hope that you are doing well, my darling. The sight of me should not be taking your breath away but instead making your heart beat and your soul soar. I hope you continue working on those still images because I did not get a chance to look at myself in the mirror that night. You are my only witness and I am honoured to have you share that special moment with me.
Thinking of you, always,
Richard Jackdaw
P. S. May I hope that someday I would be granted permission to call you by your proper name, my lady E?

Idk if you’ve answered this already but at what point in their relationship did Jesse tell Demi ab his past? How did that go over? How much does she know?
ive mentioned it some before but i haven't really gone super in depth!! as u all may know, i am very "and then everyone made it to alaska and everything ended up ok!! :)" minded, so i dont have a big dramatic revelation beat to my story and ultimately, jesse never tells demi that he's living under a completely new identity. however, he does tell her a Lot of other things, partially because he trusts her, partially because he feels guilty keeping things from her that might make her see him differently; he feels that she deserves to know how fucked up he is so she can escape him and avoid tying herself down to a mistake. jesse first tells her about his drug use after demi explains how her sister died, again out of that guilt and the expectation that she won't want to associate with a former(ish) addict, but demi saw firsthand how powerful addiction can be and isnt scared off. when it comes to his criminal history, it takes him a little longer to work up the nerve to disclose that stuff: he's afraid of both endangering her by letting her know what he's done and losing her. he drops a few things along the way, usually related to drug dealing and production since she was so understanding of that aspect of his past, but once they decide to get married, he feels that he owes it to her to be totally honest. the dark details of making and selling the drugs, being around violence and controlling figures. enacting violence himself. losing people. being sold into slavery. he leaves out specific identifying details (demi's never been a current events kind of person but he cant risk her connecting those dots) and places a lot of the blame on himself instead of trying to describe the people from his past who were pulling a lot of those strings. its basically an abridged version of the show's events, no names, no details in certain places (he doesnt even tell her which state he used to live in), and no forgiveness.
demi listens patiently the whole time, not asking many questions along the way. she tenses up when he touches on captivity, but otherwise her demeanor remains open and nonjudgmental. when it's over, she doesn't say anything, which is somehow worse than disgust. jesse is so wound up at this point that he flips out on her, insisting that this is her time to cut her losses. he's a criminal, a fucking murderer. he's evil. demi still doesnt react the way he wants and instead just waits until he's out of venom before reaching out to very gently smooth down his hair. petting the angry, upset dog instead of reflexively giving him away. "im sorry you've had to carry that around with you all this time," she says softly and that breaks him. because it Has been so hard carrying that around. demi asks a few more questions, clarifies a few more things, then tells him what she thinks. that she's seen how he acts now, how he treats people, how he treats himself. that she grew up with a father who sounds like the figures he alluded to in his story. that she is uncertain and insecure about a lot of things, but she's never been more sure that jesse is a good person and that she loves him irrespective of whatever came before. "im dangerous," he insists, a former fighting dog that would rather die than return to the ring. a hand on his own—"then why do i feel so safe with u?"
it's not perfect. there will always be things that jesse never shares with her and he will never totally forgive himself because as the one living person who knows the Extent of what went down, he feels that it's his responsibility to hold himself accountable for It for the rest of his life. demi's perception of him Does change, although not entirely in a negative way, and she is a little hurt that he expected her to bail so quickly and she can't lie and say that her mind doesn't occasionally drift to the fact that her husband has killed people. but at the end of the day, they're two broken people who were utterly convinced that their lives were over before they found each other. this is their second chance at life and they're never going to take that or each other for granted. whatever comes, they're going to face it together

The Pokémon matches really are getting harder and harder huh
I suspect they're getting harder because we've reached the real nostalgia stages, but I imagine it will get MUCH more difficult once we hit Round 2 :D

okay i know everyone always assumes that trent would be the one who like is experienced and knows what he's doing and is comfortable in his sexuality and out, while ted... well, i've definitely seen some interpretations where he's plenty comfortable, just not really out, but i think a lot of fan content tends towards it either being something he's repressed or he's literally only just discovered, etc. which is all valid by the way, i'm not knocking that at all, and i totally get why that vibe is what people end up going with. but like. have you considered the opposite. ted is like, pretty comfortable in his sexuality, people just make assumptions because he was married to a woman + his whole vibe of affable midwestern dad and all. trent, though, having assumed he was straight up until now, is having a Full Crisis over apparently his first crush being That Goddamn American Coach With The Ridiculous (And Unfortunately Hot??? Somehow?? Is This What Trent Is Into Now???) Mustache.

Behind-the-scenes footage of the reshoot of the squid sequence in 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (1954)
A soundstage with a tank was built specifically for the movie. It was used for underwater miniature shots, but most importantly, this was where the famous squid sequence of the movie was filmed. Building the soundstage alone cost $300,000, but costs would continue to climb once the studio realized it would need to shoot the sequence all over again.
The screenwriter Earl Felton originally described the scene as such in his script: "THE NAUTILUS breaks the surface in the red after-glow of sunset, the ugly body of the squid silhouetted against the horizon, its long tentacles writhing."
Peter Ellenshaw, matte artist: I reckoned it would be very dramatic if--and I was doing sketches on the film quite a lot--that if we did a red, deep red sky, and the squid comes out of the water, it would be a wonderful effect. Well they tried it. They put on that kind of wishy washy sky, and it looked ridiculous.
Richard Fleischer, director: [The first squid] had all the tentacles, but the tentacles were held up by very heavy cables, which you couldn't avoid seeing... The cables would break, or great hunks of the material would come apart, come off. And the inside was stuffed with kapok, and it was absorbing the water, so it's getting heavier and heavier and getting less and less mobile, and it was just impossible. So I'm trying to shoot this thing, and I'm sick to my stomach looking at it because I know it's not working.
After seeing the dailies of the squid sequence, Walt talked with director Richard Fleischer, and they both agreed that it looked comical. Thus, Walt halted production while they thought of an alternate solution.
Fleischer: [Walt] said, "Start a dramatic sequence, and leave the squid sequence alone." He said, "I'll get together with my geniuses at Disneyland, and we'll come up with a squid that will do something for you. It'll be much better than this." ...My writer Earl Felton had seen the dailies too. And I said, "You know, Earl, what are we going to do with this thing? It doesn't work, even if we get a good squid." He said, "Well, look: everything's wrong with this sequence. This should be a sequence that takes place at night in a violent storm with lightning and thunder and wind, tremendous wind, waves smashing everything, so that it becomes not just a fight against the squid, but a fight against nature as well. You'll only see the squid really in flashes of lightning, and you won't see any flaws it may have." So I kissed his hand and ran out to find Walt, and I ran right into Walt on the studio street, and I said, "Walt, this is the new concept for the squid fight." And he listened, and he said, "You're absolutely right." He didn't hesitate a minute. "That's the way we'll do it, and you tell Earl to write that sequence."
The new squid was redesigned and remodeled by sculptor Chris Mueller (who sculpted a majority of the animals on Jungle Cruise). In his redesign, he tapered out the ends of the tentacles to allow them to stretch out to twice their length. He added a brow ridge to the squid to give it a more menacing look and rounded out + shortened the head.
The new mechanics were concepted and created by technical effects expert Bob Mattey (who made the animals on Jungle Cruise move and eventually would become well-known for creating the three animatronic sharks in the film Jaws). He created a spring device that made the tentacles light in weight and fluid in movement. It required 28 men to operate the squid, and they would use vacuum hoses to make the tentacles writhe, inflating them to make them curl and deflating them to uncurl them.
With the new stormy setting, it also required the addition of wind machines, dump tanks, wave makers, and reengineering the Nautilus so that it could lean during the storm.
Most of this reshoot was shot by second unit director Jim Havens (pictured in the first and eighth gifs; James Curtis Havens on IMDb), who already had previous experience shooting action sequences, including the underwater scenes in Creature from the Black Lagoon.
Needless to say, the reshoot practically flooded the soundstage. You can see in the last gif that the water spilled outside the soundstage as Walt, with rubber boots on, walks into the building.
The reshoot cost an additional $250,000, but with only half of the principal photography having been shot, the production was in danger of being shut down. The film had to start taking from funds intended for Disneyland.
Fleischer: They had to get in the bankers... They asked them to supply money to finish the picture, and the bankers wanted to see what had been shot up to date. And that was a big day for us. I was working on the set, waiting to hear word whether we're going to come back to work the next day or shut down that night. It was really that close. Word got back to me. They loved it. And they're giving him a million and a half dollars to finish the picture. That's our squid story. It was a real hair-raiser. A movie in itself.

#idk how accurate the source is [formu1a__uno] bc ive heard conflicting opinions about them and their reliability#but either way that's just really fucking disrespectful if true?#like this isn't even xavi had to go because bono was available to be charles's engineer#you just axed a man that worked with your driver for almost 5 years and gave the job to a guy who's afaik never been a race engineer before#without consulting said driver or yknow even making him aware before/during the miami weekend#so he could have some closure and say goodbye to his long-time race engineer and trusted confidant in whatever way he saw fit#which would've like. the bare minimum decent thing to do just on like a human level???#and you're telling me with your whole chest this is an upgrade. um. pass 🙅🏻‍♀️#and if it was xavi's decision (hearing this i highly doubt it was tbh) then i dont see why he wouldn't have told charles beforehand?#this is so messy#i love how when the news was made public so many people defended & justified it#saying this was something either charles wanted himself or at least was consulted about and approved of#lmao tell me you don't know how ferrari moves without telling me#just like they praised binotto for as long as they could until it became obvious that his relationship w charles is strained#and then suddenly people started noticing that oh maybe he's not actually fit for the tp job after all...#like im sorry but if we heard that charles fought to keep xavi as his RE when binotto wanted him gone#and now fred's basically done exactly that without taking it up w charles or letting him know in advance#then uh. :)#xavi marcos#ferrari
