rewatching the final two episodes of evangelion and im reminded how good of a scene the opening scene is

it is in my humble opinion one of the best depictions of guilt in media

i could go on and on for hours what i appreciate about this scene but that would just turn this quick post into a essay

however i do find it funny that the shinji chair meme originated from a scene where the main character feels guilt over killing someone

What are your thoughts on the character writing in Shaman King? I think it's pretty interesting since it doesn't always spell out everything for the reader.

this triggered an unskippable cutscene so I'm adding a read more but if you don't wanna be here for years me complaining is still above the cut (though I recommend being a nerd with me I have a graph)

anyways I have a running bit with myself whenever I'm googling something mankin related (like when capitalism was invented or the average altitude in hokkaido or something about lsd for the fiftieth time) that I do more research than takei did originally writing the damn thing. the exact words I say are usually "I should stop expecting takei to be good at his job when I do this" because takei does suck at his job sometimes. directing you towards him using the entirety of pre-colonial mesoamerica as a grab bag of random traits that results in hell for me googling stuff because ohmygod

I think the character writing is where this happens the least (though there was one point during my flowers reread where I had to step away from my computer because I forgot he did a thing and it was the SINGLE WORST THING HE COULD HAVE WRITTEN for those characters with that plot element but I digress that is a whole other thing that I am not qualified for)

the writing of our main characters (specifically pacing) is funny though one second I have a graph

overall I really like the characters in the shaman king manga, reboot anime, and what I've seen of the 2001 anime. I've already written an entire post about how much I love yoh and hao's writing. hana and alumi are neat and red crimson is an excellent manga but we're no here for sequels

also it's important to note that I have been staring at shaman king for like two years straight, I have no sense of what's obvious knowledge and what's obscure nolifer wisdom ( no idea where I fall on that spectrum basically)

recently I've been in a real x laws appreciation phase, I think lyserg's arc specifically is a neat and complex take on justice and healing. it feels like something that could realistically happen to a person, minus all the supernatural stuff of course

ever since I first watched the 2021 anime the summer it started airing I've also really liked ren. he's got the zuko type redemption arc thing going on, and while that's an age old trope something about the way he was written always gets me. watching 2021 episode 27 for the first time the day it came out (as the first episode I watched weekly btw, rip osorezan arc you're beautiful but the first time I watched you I was so preoccupied) was one of the most memorable media experiences I've ever had. 😲 face the entire time

horo's another fave writing wise, again mostly because I think the ridiculous pacing of his arc is Hilarious, but if you interpret it as takei being good at his job (possible but unlikely) his introduction scene is fantastic at establishing a character without letting you know you're missing something. I for one didn't notice until the narrative pointed it out at which point I freaked out a bit because oh no I ignored my son by accident. the wisdom kings fight still makes me lose it every time I watch it scene of all time as well (voice performance has to be my favourite part of that I don't think it would go half as hard animated without that)

those three are my favourite characters writing wise. I also think jeanne is cool but her entire arc is very similar to both lyserg's and ren's so I shan't elaborate. I will however tell you about the time I was sitting in math class when my teacher mentioned joan d'arc, I had what can only be described as a eureka moment, and spent five minutes frantically googling things until I zoned back in to him talking about the time he almost drowned in quicksand on mont saint michel

there's also some neat stuff with plant and flower symbolism that I haven't looked into in months but is pretty neat (I like the part where weed shows up because I am so very mature)

don't even get me started on the musical leitmotifs and themes (no seriously don't I have no real musical knowledge and no one to fact check my bs) but I did write another post about some of it if you haven't read it

uh in conclusion I don't think takei knows what he's doing sometimes, character writing in shaman king pretty good sometimes me likey, I will make graphs on a whim for basically no reason

Some final thoughts. The animation is stunning. As an animator myself I found myself admiring the beauty of the rendering very often. So the movie did this fantastically well.

But the script overall is lacking. Watermelon is a fun joke. Flea bag is a funny new nickname. But none of their interactions sound endearing or even natural. The delivery was so flat.

I understand that there are troubles in condensing a five season show into a movie. But similar to how they adapted the lightning thief into a movie, my thoughts are the same: if you're not going to do it justice don't do it at all.

There are many bits of the movie that I love, thematically, aesthetically; tHE KOREAN MOVE that playfulness was the only thing that made me feel they had chemistry. I liked their initial meeting, stumbling into each other; but every interaction after that made ladybug- marinette (oops spoilers jk) feel like a wishy washy character who can't decide between being annoyed or insecure. And even the annoyance is just so terribly expressed, its hard to tell what's genuine and what's playful. Every eye roll is accompanied with a smirk or a smile, so it feels like she doesn't mean what she says when she tells him to stop.

Also, when chat noir first falls in love with ladybug.... It doesn't feel that impactful. Like that scene of being in awe.. What are you in awe of? Vs the show scene where he witnesses her be impossibly brave, purifying like a billion butterflies at once and then essentially declaring war on hawkmoth and pledging herself to be the hero of Paris... Like that's awe inspiring. Speaking of, what happened to the gargoyle unpurified ladybug??

I've waited so many years for this movie and the aesthetics are stunning but. The delivery is just.. The script.. Aiii. And also Fu is portrayed as this more ominious crazy old man when he's supposed to be a kind old man! Though I do like that plagg and tikki are the ones who pick their holders.

Third, I am fluent in German and English. Though, I suck at writing in German, I never learned how to, so don't ask me to do that please. Fourth, my favorite color is red, so you can guess my favorite Taylor album (and coincidently also the show I've been to see 10 times on Broadway...). Fifth, I love to talk A LOT if you couldn't tell by the essays I send yall. 19 days by Old Xian - tianshan

(and zhanyi who I love with my whole heart but tianshan is The One for me akjvsbdv)

Tough on the outside but soft on the inside delinquent and the devilish lonely rich boy who'll go batshit crazy if his friends are in danger. Both of them learning to trust and very slowly showing their vulnerable sides to each other.... I can't say much, it's already a spoiler that they become closer because in the story they start as strangers or even "enemies". They're also secondary characters so they make appearance later in the story and gradually gain more importance (well, it started with them being secondary but tbh now they're one of the main characters with a lot of focus AND I AM SO HAPPY). But anyway, I am absolutely obsessed with them.

The original main pair (zhanyi) has completely different dynamic and vibe, but I love them and enjoy their story and relationship very much as well <3

This series has such variety of multilayered characters who honestly could have their own separate manhuas. I absolutely recommend 19 days, it started like absolute crack but gained so much depth and action and angst and questioning yourself and 'am I abnormal for having feelings for you' and trust and progress in relationships and-

I love this manhua so much, please read it, if you enjoy danmei you'll enjoy it.

Brooklyn 9-9 - Jake and Amy & Friends - Monica and Chandler

I see similarities so I put them together lmao. They are wholesome and sweet, support each other no matter what, work for their dreams and for people they hold dear. The guys are hella funny but also very smart and cool, the girls are intense and ambitious and need to have everything under control but are also very sweet and loving. The shows are light and hilarious, good as a stress relief.

The Good Place - Chidi and Eleanor

First of all I recommend The Good Place in general, a wild ride of unexpected twists and turns, each reveal more “whaaat” than the previous one, with diverse representation and filled with philosophical questions and lessons, created by people who love philosophy. Its humor is incredible as well akjvndfv

Chidi and Eleanor are complete opposites - a nerd with severe anxiety issues who spent his whole life buried in books, and a bi disaster who partied hard, made a lot of bad things, and cared mostly about herself. They learn from each other and complement each other, all the while growing and changing right in front of our eyes.

Aggretsuko - Retsuko and Haida

HAIDAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA im love him your honor. Get a partner who can do both (be sweet and supportive, be badass and taking no bullshit). I truly believe they'd be happy and just right for each other, and I want them to be together 😭😭

Yuri on ice - Yuri and Victor

akhdbsdjkfnlsdf if you watched this then you know why. I recommend it if you want a good quality lgbt anime with an interesting story, diverse characters, and beautiful skating scenes 💚 I love this wholesome duo so much T^T

It’s an old high fantasy series which I read when I plunged straight into puberty, I haven't read it as a more mature person so I wonder if there are some harmful stereotypes I didn't see or how many typical tropes there are (well e.g. the main guy is so ridiculously overpowered and smarter/holier-than-thou, and there is a lot of black and white there) but also it’s a really complex world with interesting mechanics. However, what truly makes me remember this series fondly is because it was there with me when I was going through a lot of hardships, showing me a rich world with many people worth loving, strong women who I admired and strived to be, wise people of different backgrounds, cultures, and ages. It taught me how important it is to be kind and compassionate, that no matter how desperate your situation can get there is always hope and a way, that people who care about you will be there for you when you need them, and that you need to reciprocate as well. To always “think about the solution, not about the problem” which became the thing I repeat to myself every time I start struggling. The main couple also showed me what I want to strive for in a good relationship - support, understanding, standing by each other’s side no matter what, deep respect for each other and treating each other as equals, working for the relationship, and most importantly trusting each other. The series might be a typical high fantasy but for my growing and messed up mind it was a good teacher who reminded me of things we consider obvious but tend to forget, and might have played a significant role in who I am now.

I mean what better way to start this second year than some chaos since that's how animal anon started to begin with! I will admit, it was slightly stressful coming up with something to meet the occasion of this event. I hope the countdown and this post live up to it. No, seriously I have been to 21 shows since Broadway reopened in September and I'm actually going to my 22nd tonight. I don't know if this makes that fact better or worse, but I've really only been to about 12 different show because out of those 22, 10 of those are one specific show. Third, I am fluent in German and English. Though, I suck at writing in German, I never learned how to, so don't ask me to do that please. Fourth, my favorite color is red, so you can guess my favorite Taylor album (and coincidently also the show I've been to see 10 times on Broadway...). Fifth, I love to talk A LOT if you couldn't tell by the essays I send yall. And lastly, I can also confirm I am not Taylor...but I will say that I do share something very important with her... tell me your guesses down below as to what very important thing you think Taylor and I have in common, and I'll send some extra animals to whomever I see gets it right first!

ummm... hi. so i kinda fell off the face of the earth lmao. as i predicted, but still. sorry bout that. i really have no excuse except that im lazy asf lmao. so uh, with that out of the way, what have i been up to during the past 2 almost 3 months? well, im all caught up on eric’s audios now. umm there’s so so SO much to talk about so imma just say a few things. first of all, i am DOWN BAD for avior lmao. the audio where he revealed his secret was AWFUL. because its the way that i squealed and celebrated at the beginning when they kissed and the PROMPTLY regretted all of my life choices. umm inversion was also incredible. eric really needs to make his audios into a tv series. i have listened to some of his qnas and the sort and i know he really wants to maintain the medium of having everything be from a sort of listener’s pov? but like, i feel like it would be a cool concept to film the tv series like from our pov? idk idk. but i NEED it in my life. also i just wanted to insert a few of my random thoughts about what a few of the characters sound like because i SWEAR. hear me out. i think that sam looks like jean from aot and hux looks like joe from sk8. those are the only 2 that im like, this is a fact, the rest idk. maybe damien looks like the main guy from fruits basket? idk his name lmao for some reason im not a big fan of romance animes unless theyre bl lmao. i also joined the redacted records discord, but i have no motivation to ever go on it kind of like tumblr lol. um um um but aside from redacted, i also started listening to 2 other asmrtists. im wondering if anyone else listens to them. they arent quite like eric in that they do more basic boyfriend audios, but theyre still amazing. one is midori audios. highly highly recommend. he has a lovely voice and he does tsundere characters sooo well. he actually has kind of a tsundere series running atm. i LOVE tsunderes so much oh my goodness. another one of his audios that i absolutely love is one of his jealous best friend audios. havent listened to it in a while tbh but i cannot recommend enough. his personality is also very adorable and it comes through in some of his more wholesome characters. ok ok enough about midori the other one is ash asmr. ok this man? i can’t. he also has an amazing voice and the cool thing about him is that all of his characters are basically himself with a few changes. like for example, all of his characters’ favorite ice cream flavor is vanilla. he also has an absolutely adorable personality that shines through even more than midori because all of his characters are basically him. my favorite ice cream flavor is also vanilla, and i used to always joke about how i would never find another person who shared this opinion, but then ash waltzed into my life lol. according to what he has said in his audios, he also has a good sense of style, he said he likes a sort of retro aesthetic (he also knows what cottagecore is so like...) he has tattoos, piercings, he likes earrings, necklaces, RINGS, he said his favorite accessories are rings so. omg the only problem is that he lives in canada. another thing that i have recently discovered is the wonderful world of vtubers. i stumbled upon nijisanji, specifically nijisanji en, specifically the 2 boy groups, noctyx and luxiem. im currently watching through their debuts and then ill start tuning in to their streams. i love all of them so much already. lets see. out of all of the boys, ike is my favorite. he seems so organized, prepared, smart, well spoken. i only speak english unfortunately, but he sounds pretty good when he speaks japanese, like he doesnt sound robotic or anything he sounds fluid. and of course he sounds great when speaking swedish. i love his aesthetic and he has such an adorably calming voice and gorgeous eyes. in noctyx, my favorite is fulgar because he is SUCH A NERD LMAO. and he reminds me of myself. as you can probably tell by this extremely long post hehe i love ranting about the things that i like, and usually, when i like something im like a sponge. i scour for information and soak it all in. i also love vox. and i mean who doesnt? the lord himself. beautiful voice, aesthetic, very regal. whats not to love? also i ship vox and ike lmao. if you havent seen this video by one of the clippers (i think thats how you would say it? im still learning all of the vtuber lingo lmao that makes me sound so old i swear im young im 18 lol) anywho the video is called something like vox and ike are soulmates and it is the best thing ive ever seen. its basically just 10 minutes of vox and ike sharing a braincell. ever heard of finishing each other’s sentences? more like finishing each other’s memes lmao go watch it now istg. umm mysta. oh dear lord mysta. he is so chaotic lmao i love him so much. shu is so wholesome (as far as i can tell) he seems very uh seiso? unseiso? i always get them confused lol. in terms that i can understand he seems very clean, i dont think he really swears. his debut stream was hilarious, especially because i watched i right after uki’s and the contrast was great. and last but not least out of luxiem, luca the innocent baby, reminds me very much of myself. hes so happy go lucky, just pogging through life like an absolute champ. now for the rest of noctyx. i dont know them as well, but alban is absolutely adorable, i feel like hes kind of like everyone in nijien’s child lol. him and sonny saying nyo gives me life. speaking of sonny his impressions are INSANE, im also fairly new to the anime scene (ive only seen aot, i just started season 4, and mha, im almost done with season 3, and im aware of a bunch but im still very new) but yeah so i dont really know if theyre accurate or not, but they sound pretty good to me. also the way that he says arigato (oh man i hope thats how you spell it) is so cute. i also ship sonny and alban because of a clipper video that i saw which was just alban and sonny saying nyo, sonny dying because of albans cuteness (and his oh shoot i think its onii-chan? onee-san oh god idk im so bad dont hate me please im trying anywho what i was trying to say was that sonny likes being called onii-chan or onee-san) umm then uki. his debut was amazing i love his song. the lyrics, the visuals, his voice, the latin, all of it was absolutely beautiful. and yeah i have heterophobia as well lmao. the thing about uki is that i feel like he is so sweet but with the way that his voice sounds, it would be really unsettling if he said something sinister. like the delivery would be some calm and stuff? idk idk. i also also ship uki and fulgar obviously. they both outwardly simp for each other and can bond over their love for bl. and last but certainly not least, yugo. kind of like luca, seems super happy go lucky and constantly excited and energetic. now their debut songs. i like hope in the dark the most, i love the classy broadway vibes that it gives me. im a dancer so. it kind of really hits home. and stuck in the abyss, though it isnt my fav of the 2, i have more thoughts on it. their use of yugo’s higher voice i think was genius, it makes that section almost ethereal? idk if that would be the right word but you get what i mean. and then the immediate transition into sonny’s voice is a great contrast. ok like i said, im a dancer and a nerd, i got thoughts on this lol. anywho, sonny’s voice is very powerful and perfect for that contrast. uki got the rap part which i thought was interesting, especially after hearing deja vu, i was surprise they didnt use his incredible voice for any actual singing? but he still absolutely slayed the rap so im not complaining. the last thing i have to say i promise. fulgars section. im not a huge fan of autotune, but i feel it makes sense since hes a cyborg and stuff so ill let it slide. wowowow that was a lot sorry about that this is what i mean when im passionate about something i can literally go for HOURS about it.

I will admit, it was slightly stressful coming up with something to meet the occasion of this event. I hope the countdown and this post live up to it. No, I'm not going to reveal myself just yet.. maybe that will be for year 2...😏😏. BUT I will give you some fun facts about me! So let's see; first, I'm from the Midwest (so not Canadian, but close so I do have a slight accent), but I currently live in the TriState area. Second, I am a MASSIVE theater nerd. No, seriously I have been to 21 shows since Broadway reopened in September and I'm actually going to my 22nd tonight. I don't know if this makes that fact better or worse, but I've really only been to about 12 different show because out of those 22, 10 of those are one specific show. Third, I am fluent in German and English. Though, I suck at writing in German, I never learned how to, so don't ask me to do that please. Fourth, my favorite color is red, so you can guess my favorite Taylor album (and coincidently also the show I've been to see 10 times on Broadway...). Fifth, I love to talk A LOT if you couldn't tell by the essays I send yall. And lastly, I can also confirm I am not Taylor...but I will say that I do share something very important with her... tell me your guesses down below as to what very important thing you think Taylor and I have in common, and I'll send some extra animals to whomever I see gets it right first!

So contuining on with my dissertation here, this week I have been trying to figure out a prompt to live up to this occasion. As I already mentioned, my system isn't perfect! And I've been thinking a lot about community lately and how that's been lacking for so many because of Covid. So what I want yall to do is if you get this dissertation of mine, please send a message, post, anon, whatever you want to at least 1 other blog (though you can do more), telling them something you like about them and giving them an animal emoji! That way we can keep spreading the love all day long to as many as possible! 🥰

It was very fun reading all your comments and theories.  Though side note: animal anon has no problem with people joining her BUT it must be animals and it must not mess with my countdown.
