Darkness
Jaxon Crowley's masterlist
Jaxon is lost.
Where was he? He had no idea. All he was doing was wandering through the dark void around him. There was no ground, no sky, no light, just darkness. It felt so cold, but it didn't bother him that much.
How long had he been walking? By now it felt like hours had passed. It's not like he can tell if he's made any progress at all anyway. There's not exactly landmarks in the void of darkness.
He sighed, until he saw something within the darkness.
A small golden key.
He picked up the small key, and behind him, there was a loud screech. Jaxon turned around, and came face to face with the crow from his overblot.
It spread his broken feathers, and the blot dripped down into a puddle in front of Jaxon. The puddle only kept growing and growing and it even started to rise and take a form.
The blot turned into him, well, him in his overblot form. The overblot Jaxon smiled at him and reached towards him with broken chains dangling from his wrist.
Jaxon hated it. He didn't want to face this...this horrible version of him. It was the embodiment of everything he hated about his past, about himself. And it was here to taunt him.
It grabbed onto his neck and pulled him closer.
"Don't you miss it?"
Jaxon grabbed at the hand around his neck trying desperately to pull it off. It didn't hurt, but it had the control here and he didn't like it.
"Miss what?"
"Me. The power. The control. Think about it, if you were me, then we could do anything and all of them would listen to you or leave you alone. They wouldn't bother you."
He thought back to how he felt during that overblot. It's true that he had power and he felt that. But when he was in his overblot, he never felt so much pain and alone.
"No."
"Hmph. But with me, you'd be able to find her."
...
He hated to admit it, but the overblot had a point. In truth, Jaxon had no idea how he would even begin to search for his mom. She could truly be anywhere, and searching each town and kingdom could take his entire life. If he had the overblots power, then there was a chance he could use his magic to get an answer out of Crowley.
But what would be the point if the overblot killed him anyway? He'd die before he'd even get to wherever she is. And if he somehow met her before dying, then the phantom would be left behind for her to deal with. That's not even considering his magic being active.
"Maybe you're right about that. But if I hurt her when I meet her, then why meet her at all? That would only drive her away more."
"So you'd rather never see her again? You'll never find her, and you may never even know what happened to her or why she left."
"You've felt my emotions yeah?"
"Of course. We're the same person after all."
"Then you should know how I feel about it. I've always felt I deserve the pain for what happened. Besides, I would rather spend my life in isolation than hurt her any more than I already have."
"If you insist."
The overblot let go of him and Jaxon fell back through the ever growing puddle of blot. And he continued to fall, unsure if it would even end. The wind kept getting more intense, and he had a sinking feeling he was getting closer to some sort of ground. Jaxon braced himself...
...only for his eyes to shoot open and his breathing to pick up. Man he hated nightmares.
Jaxon sat himself up and took a look around his room. It was as empty and dark as ever, but for some reason, the dark wasn't nearly as comforting as it usually was. This time it was more unsettling. Taking a deep breath, he got out of bed and threw on a shirt so he could take a walk.
It was a pretty normal night for a walk around campus. But there was something about the quiet and the darkness of it all that had him more on edge than usual.
"Out for a stroll young Crowley?"
Of course Malleus was out here. He too often wandered the campus at night. Most of the time they just ignored each other. Maybe Malleus noticed he was more on edge.
"Yeah."
"You seem troubled."
"I'm fine."
"Are you telling that to me or yourself?"
"Does it matter?"
"You seem quite familiar with lying to yourself. You are quite the fascinating person indeed."
Jaxon just sighed at his words. To be considered a 'fascinating person' was...strange. He certainly didn't appreciate being called that.
"What, you're gonna start studying me or something? You like to watch people for fun?"
"You are isolated like I am, but you intentionally push others away. And then you wander around in despair all during the night. Do you never notice this cycle?"
He did. Jaxon just chooses to ignore it. It was easier to face it all when he blamed others for pushing his buttons or bothering him than it was to accept that he may have been the problem. But yet, here Malleus was, pointing it out. And Jaxon knew he was right.
"Why does it matter? Even if I didn't push them away, they would avoid me anyway. Maybe some people are just doomed to be alone."
"I was once told that no one is meant to be alone forever. Perhaps you guard yourself too well for others to even see a chance to get close. Most people see excessive walls and don't see a point in trying to get past them."
"You're saying I have to...open up to people? That's quite the advice coming from you."
"I do not hide myself. Most just avoid me out of fear as they do you. But I know not all are scared of you, and I hear some of the freshmen this year are brave ones. Whatever you decide will be up to you. Stay in isolation or put a small portion of faith in others."
"Why are you telling me this? What do you get out of this?"
"We may never have talked much while you were here before, but you never once tried to fight me. Nor did you flee from me or ignore me. You are quite the fascinating creature Jaxon Crowley. My ears are sharp, and I hear much more than any normal human can. So even conversations that others may not know of don't escape me."
"You heard what happened with that Heartslabyul brat?"
"I did. He provoked you and yet you took the fall. I was rather amazed that you didn't even try to defend yourself much or explain the truth. He got to walk away with sympathy while you spiraled down into the darkness and shame that consumes you."
"That's fine. I'm the violent delinquent who's expected to get in trouble. I'm only doing what's expected of me. No one would've believed me or tried to listen anyway. I deserved it."
"You've believe what he said to you?"
"It makes sense. And I've never seen anything to suggest he was wrong either."
"That does not mean such evidence doesn't exist. Perhaps you haven't found it yet, or perhaps it hasn't been given to you. Either way, giving up and giving into what someone has said to you...doesn't sound very much like you. Many have said that Jaxon Crowley doesn't give into anyone. Wouldn't that show weakness?"
"It's like you want me to fight you. Maybe that's what you came out here for huh? You missed out on all the action before and now you want some? Trying to point out a weakness is a good way to provoke me too."
"Heh. Anytime you wish to fight I will be ready. I was just stating my observations. It's not often you act this way. I'm curious, which side of you is the real one? Only time will tell."
The fae prince disappeared into many small green particles. He couldn't just walk away like a normal person?
"Jerk."
Still, he had given Jaxon quite a bit to think about. For someone who didn't have friends, Malleus knew how to read Jaxon very well. Maybe it was some fae ability. Or maybe Jaxon was just that obvious.

ace is like. ok well this sucks for HIM a little bit because of course he managed to crush on a girl who just so happens to be a lesbian
but he’s also just... kind of relieved? it’s way less awkward to be turned down because of that than if just... if she was straight and just turned him down.... just thinking of that is horrifying
he might try to talk about his past relationships with her because uh, bonding between people who... like women...? but it kinda backfires because she just reaffirms he was kind of an asshole to his ex girlfriends. he might even be forced to call them and apologize
all in all, ace is just glad to keep one of his closest friends. it’s a thousand times better to have a little one sided crush that simply can’t be returned on his friend and continue being friends, than if he were to date them and then it didn’t work out and the friendship was ruined
being the little shit he is, he won’t hesitate to find the situation hilarious. is it fun to be a lesbian stuck in an all boys magic school? whatever kind of accident or magic that sent her here really did her dirty. doesn’t she know of all the prestigious girl-only schools out there? too bad! she’s stuck with The Boys
this revelation is also very very good for his own sake. ace used to get jealous when he saw her hanging out with other men, especially if she seemded to be too friendly with them- and he’d usually just express that displeasure with teasing or just huffing and crossing his arms.
now? oh, he feels nothing but smugness when he sees another dude being suspiciously kind and cooperative with her- because if they really are trying to subtly flirt with her, welp, then they got a big surprise coming and he finds it hilarious to know they’re gonna get the same surprise he did
deuce spade
deuce is the kind of kid who somehow has like, lesbian aunts he hangs out with, and at the same time does not know what a lesbian is. don’t ask how that works because he doesn’t know either until everything clicks in his brain
deuce’s immediate reaction is to get flustered. it’s a mix of embarrassment because now he feels like he should have noticed sooner...? and also because he’s mortified he might have annoyed or offended his friend
he apologizes for crushing on her, despite her telling her it’s really not a problem? it’s flattering, really? deuce is so busy apologizing and fretting because he, bless his heart, genuinely feels like he did something wrong
you know that trope of the slightly dumb but golden-hearted jock who is besties with the lesbian? this is that. it’s quite literally that
deuce still wants to bring her over to meet his mom even if it’s just as a friend. he’s talked too much to his mom about how amazing she is, so now he has to introduce her to his mom. he- he’ll make sure his mom understands it’s not a dating thing!! don’t worry!!
deuce becomes even more wary of the students that try to get close to his friend now. before, it was infuriating to see the boys all be so keen on getting close to the one single girl in the whole school, but he tried to reason that if she liked to meet new people, he shouldn’t get in her way, but... if it’s flirting, deuce has no problem acting as her personal guard to shove clingy and hard-headed dudes off

in fact this isn’t even something that shocking to jack...? maybe it’s because there’s a handful of gay beastfolk in his pack so he simply doesn’t assume people are straight by default, so when his crush tells him she’s a lesbian he’s like oh fair enough
sure, it’s not like he isn’t a bit sad; he did have a crush and it’s never easy to let go of those emotions. but once again, he did kind of always consider this as a possible outcome, so it’s not like he’s completely thrown off his groove
besides, even though he might act strong and tough, it’s clear jack is a complete softie and values his friendship with her more than anything else. he lets her have some of his cacti when baby cacti grow in their pots. he doesn’t let just anyone touch his plants
if there’s one change, it might be that jack becomes more insistent on taking her out to train with him. in his own words, she’s “gotta be strong to support her future wife” or something- it’s his way of looking out for her
he’s simply so, so glad things turned out fine. being as hard-headed (as tsun, as she calls him) as he is, he had refused to even acknowledge he had a crush for a long time, and once he did, he was stressed it’d ruin this... just really nice friendship he didn’t think he’d find at NRC. but once everything is all talked out, it’s like a stone has been lifted off his chest. he’s fine, she’s fine, they’re still friends: this is all he could ask for, really

you cannot convince me epel’s little farming village didn’t have at least a couple little old gay grandmas that all pretty much adopted him as a grandson and all baked apple pies for him and gave him little embroidered handkerchiefs for his birthday. this is a fact and you cannot change my mind
when his darling first tells him she’d just... never be able to feel the same way, he’s crushed at first. it’s more of the shock of the rejection than anything else: he hears all she says, but he’s not listening
it takes a couple hours for it all to sink in. oooh. ooooh. ooooh it all makes sense now
he’s so embarrassed about how he first of all never bothered ask if she was even into men, and second of all how he reacted to being turned down for the most logical reason on earth, that he’s fretting over how to apologize. he almost considers asking rook for help but quickly realizes that would be the worst decision he could ever make.
he wants to show that it’s ok!! even if he got turned down and even if he did crush on her it’s cool and he still wants to be friends!! he’s a man and he’s only going to get manlier so of course a romantic relationship could never work, but... he still wants to maintain their friendship!!
he most likely comes over with a carved apple and an apology so genuine that his country accent slips out heavily. everything he’s said he still means! even if it’s just as friends, he still wants to take her to his hometown to pick apples, and he still wants her to be on front row when he’s playing magift- because she’s his closest friend!

honestly yeah this works out yeah
sebek’s biggest stressor is that his crush doesn’t let him concentrate on protecting lord malleus. silly little romantic thoughts about his friend make him get distracted for one second and then poof lord malleus has gone to explore some abandoned building and now him and silver have to comb the entire campus to find him
he’d actually planned to bottle it up until it went away, but it wasn’t going away, so lilia pushed him to confess saying he’d “feel better once he got it out”. and what he got from it was a gentle rejection and an explanation that she’s actually just into girls, which was... a relief??
sure, it hurts a little. a lot, actually, because sebek is already terrible at managing his emotions. but once he looks at the situation, he... feels like it’s actually quite a good deal
he gets to keep his closest friend (although he’d be dead before saying something so cheesy about them), his little crush has been popped and deflated so he can go back to guarding malleus, and it almost feels like there’s just... more trust between him and her?
in the end, sebek is just happy to have someone to be friends with, even if he’d never admit it. sure, he might say lord malleus is all he needs in life, but lilia can attest that sebek looks equally as happy- if not happier- when he’s hanging out with his friend than when he guards malleus

Since you're a fan of Pokemon if you had to give the dorm leaders a partner pokemon who would you picked?
A/N: AH! Now that I finished editing “dati” ver ii, I can finally answer this! So what I did was just I really picked the first pokemon that popped into my head, and if I didn’t pick that--it’s because i reached a different reasoning.

Riddle Rosehearts
Polteageist - The Black Tea Pokemon. Ghost type.
The moment I thought of Riddle, i instantly thought of this Pokemon! I think it was because my thought process was: “hm... whats a very Alice-in-Wonderland-esque pokemon?” I didn’t really think too deeply about this. The moment I remembered Polteageist, I was “that’s it, that’s the poke.”
I will also note that Riddle for sure has the Antique type and not the Phony type haha.
Though I don’t really think Riddle would be a ghost type trainer, I can imagine him having various different pokemon from different types. I can see him getting an Alcremie though, like specifically one given to him by Trey probably.
Leona Kingscholar
Absol - The Disaster Pokemon. Dark type.
I almost picked Pyroar, but I was like--"No Ai, that’s way too obvious.” So I thought up of other pokemon that were on their four legs. I picked Absol because I think he and Leona have a similar situation? Absol is believed to bring disasters, Leona is believed to not be that good of a prince... the truth is Absol can sense impending disasters and warns people--while Leona’s just suffered from a inferiority complex. So I thought that the pokemon who can sense disasters, accompanying Leona--who, to be honest, could make a great king if given a chance--would be a cool pair. Like, Absol predicting disasters and Leona being able to prove his worth thanks to Absol... I think that’s pretty cool!
Absol can mega evolve. Here’s the thing, because Absol is a peaceful, laidback pokemon who hates fighting--an Absol who mega evolves means a lot. Leona’s Absol being able to mega evolve proves that Absol believes and will fight for Leona.
He probably has a varied team. Mayhaps he also owns a Pyroar.
Azul Ashengrotto
Milotic - The Tender Pokemon. Water type.
The first thing I thought of, was that I wanted Azul’s pokemon to be purely a water type. I also almost immediately chose the octopus--Octillery. I also considered Tentacruel. In the end, I picked Milotic. I think Azul and Feebas/Milotic have a somehow story. I like to imagine Azul clutching his Feebas, crying then swearing to it that they will get back at their bullies. Feebas is often seen as not desirable pokemon because it’s... well, not visually pleasing. So Azul can relate to that. Then when Feebas becomes Milotic, she becomes more desirable--which is what Azul does to himself, he builds himself into someone who people want to be.
Azul’s Feebas/Milotic is definitely shiny. Neither of them knew this, but later on when they learnt about it--it was definitely something they both took pride in. Azul also pampers Milotic a lot, so she’s very very prideful and protective of her trainer.
I can see Azul running a mostly water type team. Somehow, Azul would be a great battler, but even better at contests with his Milotic.
Kalim Al-Asim
Darmanitan - The Blazing Pokemon. Fire type.
You know how some pets end up looking like their owner or vice versa? That’s Kalim and Darmanitan. LIKE... I don’t know what it is--maybe it’s the smile? They sort of look alike and/or have the same type of vibes. Like... that smile? And the energy? The two definitely suit each other.
His Darmanitan would be the regular type from Unova, and not the recent Galarian version.
Kalim... is likely not the type to really plan out his team I think. He’s the type to find a pokemon he likes, get emotionally attached, then add to his team. He’s definitely maxed his affection levels with them.
Vil Schoenheit
Roserade - The Bouquet Pokemon. Grass and Poison type.
I wanted to get Vil a poison type, but not many poison types fits his aesthetics--so I went for a pokemon with double typing. Now that I think about it, this can be a pokemon for Riddle too... but I like how Roserade is pretty and poisonous. It fits what we know of Vil so far hahah.
Vil’s Roserade is definitely shiny. He either luckily got it in the wild, or it was given to him as an egg--either way a shiny Roserade is so pretty. Shiny!Roserade has purple and black flowers instead of the red and blue--which, honestly, aesthetically suits Vil so much.
Vil definitely focuses on his pokemon’s grooming, and less on their stats--but he likely uses a poison centric type team that can wear away at his opponents slowly. Also he’s definitely in the contests sphere.
Idia Shroud
Mimikyu - The Disguise Pokemon. Ghost and Fairy type.
Idia’s a basic bitch. I mean... For some reason, I thought it fit? Like, I was thinking “what about Idia” and Mimikyu immediately came up. Funny enough though, I don’t think Idia choses Mimikyu. It’s more like... Mimikyu attached itself to Idia and now refuses to let go LOL.
Idia eventually grows to adore Mimikyu though, and let’s it be his signature pokemon. Without a doubt, Mimikyu is Level 100, Perfect IVs, EV trained, at max affection and probably has the z-move stone Mimikium.
Idia is probably the champion of NRC let’s be real. His Mimikyu is terrifying, but his whole varied team are equally as buff. They’re all Level 100, Perfect IVs, EV trained and at max affection. (“It’s finally my time” Idia would cackle).
Malleus Draconia
Altaria - The Humming Pokemon. Dragon and Flying type.
Honestly I wondered if this was such a basic choice to make for Malleus lmao. I did consider Hydreigon, Mawile, Grimmsnarl... but I chose Altaria specifically because it’s the only pokemon who can have both the Dragon and Fairy typing when it’s mega evolved. So yeah, obviously Malleus can mega evolve Altaria haha.
He definitely got Altaria when it was still a Swablu. He probably saved it without thinking, and Swablu gave him so much affection that Malleus immediately got attached. You can say Altaria is Malleus’s emotional crutch and also his security blanket. It’s because of Altaria that Malleus isn’t so lonely or sad much.
Malleus probably has a team of dragons and fairy types--especially the pokes I mentioned earlier. I can also definitely see him with an Alolan!Ninetales and a Galarian!Rapidash.
