Yuri is tired. There is fighting again. He can sense the tension in the air, and while he'd say it fuels him, the truth is, it scares him more than a summer storm. He's small, and easy to over look. He uses this to stay perfectly still in his bed, hoping, praying the screaming will stop. That this time there will be quiet sobs instead of echoing sounds. There is a cracking sound that shakes his door. He should hide.
He stays where he is. He will be brave. The door shakes again and again, then stops. There is the sound of breaking. There is the sound of screams. There is the sound of sobbing.
The next day he opens his door to see the large crack running down is surface. His мать sits alone on a couch, face streaked with salt as she holds a glass of burning drink, cigarette in hand. She catches sight of him, sniffs, and rises. Something in her eyes is not right. Another 'отец' gone?
мать has had a hard time, he knows, since his father went away. It wasn't his fault, he knows, his отец just had to go. It was his time, or something. But мать has never been the same.
дедушка comes to get him again. Its for a week this time. When he returns there is a new door, and a new man. Yuri wonders how long til this one breaks his mother's heart again. She's not got much more love to give. He can see it. At her edges, she is becoming sharp, and bitter, and grey.
He looks at дедушка and wonders what keeps him going. His light is a soft radiance, an aura of calm that flashes rainbow lights when something particular catches his memory. Sometimes he thinks he can see that in his мать. When she looks at old photos, or sits on the edge of her bed, peering into a jewelry box saying nothing.
Sometimes she goes out to parties, or events. Sometimes she comes home happy and he is happy. Sometimes she comes back with new lovers. Ones who lie. He can hear it. It hurts her heart, which means she can hear it too. And then they leave. They give so many excuses. The one he hears most often is that they are not ready to be a parent. They were only here for a short time, some fun.
It angers Yuri. His материнский heart is turning cold, hard. Soon there will be nothing but stone. No one can love with a heart made of grey, cold stone. Not even those who don't lie to them. Sometimes Yuri thinks he can hear music when he thinks about this. It slows to a grinding halt. Sometimes, when he's really quiet, he thinks he can hear the sound of someone grinding at the stone, trying to unstick it. Sometimes he thinks he's holding a blow torch made of his own breath, trying to warm it.
The next time it happens his дедушка and wonders about several things. Grandpa was a soldier, and he works hard, and he's seen things. This is very comforting. He doesn't sugar coat, even if he doesn't answer everything. Yuri is a boy, so it's okay for him not to know everything right now, he says. But Yuri notices things.
There is less food at home than at дедушкин. There are fewer items. As they get broke, they are not replaced until дедушка comes to fix them. His материнский smiles become grim lines. His clothes don't seem to fit for longer. His smiles begin to fade until one day he looks his мать dead in the eye and asks why she puts up with this revolving line of useless men who take and never give.
She says she didn't mean to hit him. She was just so mad. She says she'll never do it again. She says she's sorry. Дед doesn't give her a second chance. As the door closes on the apartment, he feels that stone feeling take place in his heart, so he partitions it. He wont become hard like her. He wont let himself get caught in a rotating string of people not worthy of him.
That week Дед takes him to the lake in the field. It's shallow and frozen over, but it's good for some skating, and that's a nice activity they can both do. Дед used to do this as a small boy himself, he says. He and his friends used to throw snow balls and skate and then race around the neighbor hood making the most out of nothing on days like these.
Yuri feels the ice give way to his movements like it's trying to resist his very existence. It's in a battle for its very life and Yuri is here to kill it. Yuri looks at the ice as he makes clumsy strokes against it with dull blades. Yuri understand it. He's in a battle for his life too, now that it was taken away from him.
Дед calls to him, asking him to come towards дедушкин hands carefully. The ice is dangerous. The ice wants him to fall, fail. His mother wanted to feel alive. So dose he. To do so, he cannot fail. He'll so the ice. He will cut it and he will win.
This time when life throws stones, it will be the one with the busted lip.
part 1, part 2, part 3, part 4, part 5, part 6, part 7, part 8, part 9, part 10, part 11, part 12, part 13, part 14, part 15

what's the threshold theory
There was a post about how Tom is the only crew member who isn't really affected by the Borg, and there's a theory that he has so much luck because he saw the past and the future when he crossed the transwarp threshold. He saw the past and the future, all of time and space. There's some subconscious part of him that remembers that experience. In fact, Tom refused to play a part in Chakotay indulging Annorax's temporal incursions, probably because a part of him knew nothing good could come of it.
If we extend that same theory to Janeway, some of her wild luck with time travel and other crack plans starts to make sense. She doesn't verbally hate time travel until after the events of Threshold, since it happens in Time and Again without complaint. Janeway has an uncanny knack for time travel, as evidenced every time she deals with it. She hates time travel, but it might be because part of her knows exactly how to manipulate the timeline. She manages to avoid the "inevitable" temporal explosion in Future's End, saving both Voyager and Braxton. She resets the entire timeline in Year of Hell, and no one else followed her reasoning. She pulled it off flawlessly. In Relativity, she senses the incidents are all related, despite it being just one reading that connects them. By the time she's involved, she has a temporal incursion factor of .0036 and a time travel protocol named after her, even if that may just be Braxton's personal grudge. Then there's Endgame, where she intentionally changes the timeline. Up until this point, she has been dragged into time travel, but for the first time, she jumps in on purpose. How does Admiral Janeway know how to get them home sooner in a way that completely avoids the Temporal Integrity Commission? It's because she has seen all of time, and part of her knows exactly what needs to happen so she can get Voyager home and do it in a way that becomes baked into the prime timeline. Maybe she doesn't consciously remember what happened during her transformation, but the experience lives in her mind somewhere, guiding her decisions.

Why are some of y'all making Robin be so mean to Steve and having them friend break up or their relationship irreversibly damaged for the sake of romo ships why would you do that to them what the hellllll literally biggest case of She Would Not Do That ever.
Sure Robin will rag on Steve but it's friendly! It's as friends! Steve does the same to her! He literally immediately dragged her crush as soon as she came out to him! Their bickering is mutual! They want to combine!! Into one!! Being!! They care so much about each other Steve wants Robin to be happy Robin worries over Steve's injuries.
Why are you making her ignore him or not realize something is wrong with him? Stop trying to replace her with other teens or a romantic interest for Steve! If your (usually whump) fic cannot function with Robin actually being Steve's friend and him talking to her then like. Send her away to visit an old sick relative or something and unable to actually be there and help him. The stobin angst can come from her being unable to actually do anything besides talk him through it to help, being so far away. You don't! Need! To make!! Her mean!! To Steve!! Sure they can have conflict but that conflict should come from a place of deep care, not apathy!! What the fuck!!!

Breakdown and Bulkhead being exes and there being so many emotions about that
Especially with me remembering the semicommon hc that Breakdown used to be an autobot, which considering how he's often a stunticon and the stunticons are in rid15 gives me the crack idea of
At the beginning of the war Breakdown left the stunticons to join the autobots because of his boyfriend at the time and him disagreeing with Motormaster, leading to MM saying he won't under any circumstances take BD back if shit with Bulk and the bots goes sideways
Shit with Bulkhead and the autobots goes sideways as Breakdown grows increasingly dissatisfied with his role in the autobots, leading to him breaking up with Bulkhead and him joining the Decepticons like he was "supposed to" in the beginning of this scrap
Well. Now he's an ex-autobot in the Decepticons and again the stunticons kept to their word as he burned that bridge, leaving him a tidge of a mess.
Enter Knockout, who's looking to take on an assistant with at least SOME medical experience. Breakdown fills this requirement because i say so and because i love nurse/medic!Breakdown. Breaky says yes because fr what the pits else is he supposed to do.
After a rough adjustment period, they grow close and the more familiar power couple KOBD we recognize and love ensues
In his wiki page tfwiki suggests that in aligned Breaky used to be a scout, actually, who was real super anxious before getting a frame upgrade in order to keep up his grudge with Bulkhead and this did wonders for his mental health from what i can see. This may be another reason why Breaky seeked Knockout out
THERE WE GO, TFP BREAKDOWN: AN EX-STUNTICON, EX-AUTOBOT, UNEXPECTED MEDIC, CURRENTLY KNOCKOUT'S PARTNER IN CRIME AND MOTHERFUCKER WITH A HAMMER

For the author ask thing L and M? ❤️
ooohh choosing violence i see, i approve 😂❤
L. favourite fic of yours?
gonna throw you a curveball here. while i love the question choices, i also don't want to tag someone with a post that's gushing about their story and then in the same breath talk about something i don't like. so! as you all know, i've been into KimChay for A Hot Min, so let's take a min to gush over one of my favorite lil fics that's been around since the beginning of the BOC airing:
reverence is a little collection of KimChay vignettes. it's what i would consider 'old' KimChay fandom because it has a lot of influence from the Filmania kp trailer and novel versions of them, but it still largely reads as Kim and Chay and everything's little snapshots that can be as connected or unconnected as you want to read them (ft the occasional AU chucked in for flavoring). i really like vignettes so it's very happy days for me whenever i feel like dipping my toes back into this fic for a reread 🤗
M. least favourite fic of yours?
i'm not gonna trash talk anyone's fic here, something that's not for me can just be not read by me, and that's that. so! instead i'm gonna call this the continuation of the Kim tea ask, because there was one important take i completely forgot about when answering that question lol:
☕ fic that shit talks WDYS
this includes: every damn fic that had some variation of Chay saying "YOU WERE THE ONE THAT LEFT". tell me you didn't pay attention to the lyrics without telling me you didn't pay attention to the lyrics. Jeff did not pour his blood sweat tears and more into that song for y'all to dismiss it like this. BOC did not completely rework Kim's storyline to include music so that he sung this to Chay as an apology for this. also, similar weird take that goes hand-in-hand with the dismissals: Kim did not """"steal Chay's song"""" -- WDYS is the song they literally worked on together. Kim is helping Chay write it on screen. Kim finishing it as an apology to Chay to explain Why He's Like This is a really good step towards a reconciliation between the two of them actually.
i just. aurgh. it's a fantastic song that is basically the thesis statement of kinnporsche: the series, for all three pairings, and it's just really annoying to see yet another fic ignore all of that to play off the one english line for a cheap shot at Kim. ik a decent chunk of my irritation here is the number of stories vs any story specifically, and it's not like there's ever a limit on how many times a concept will be used, but. ugh. i do not care for it At All.
