Humming to herself, Solar reached up to reshelve a stack of Jane Austen books - a group of students had taken all of them down to pick their favourite covers. She loved when younger folk took an interest in the classics. Too often it was academics, or people in book clubs who she just knew would never give the books another look once they finished them. This group of youngsters had the look of book annotators, book passer-on-ers, and Solar was glad they'd each found a favoured edition.
Moving along to the sci-fi section, she dug through her basket for the pair of Ursula K Le Guin books and slid them in amongst their siblings. Spotting a rogue Catherine Ryan Howard book beside them, she reached up on her tiptoes to grab it, only to meet another hand on it's spine.
"Oh I am sorry--"
"No, my apologies--"
"I didn't see you there, go ahead, take it."
"Oh, no. I was only going to reshelve it, I work here, you see. Take it, please." Solar stepped back and gestured at the bookshelf, getting a chance to take in the customer properly.
The lady was tall, slender, and draped in a crepe suit, the material seeming to drip down from her shoulders with an effect that Solar had only ever seen on runway models, or the very rich.
"Thank you," The lady says, and plucks the book off the shelf, "I've been looking for this one for a while now. It seems to be sold out everywhere. Have you read her?"
"One or two, if I recall. She's quite good." Solar says, smiling.
"I've read all of her books bar this one. Must make the full set! Especially with her new book coming out in a few months. Do you read much crime?"
"The odd book, one or two a year perhaps, it's not my preferred genre. I prefer fantasy, truth be told."
"Oh!" The lady begins to move towards the cash desk, and Solar follows here. She's the only sales assistant in today.
"I love fantasy too. Oh, I'm Moonbyul, by the way."
Rounding the desk to the cash machine, Solar grins. "Nice to meet you. I'm Solar."
