This is a sweet yet barebones story between Travis x F!Reader. If anyone wants to use this idea or expand upon this concept please do! Travis x F!Reader, Vet reader, smut, slight angst, romance, love, tenderness, sad Travis.
Ever since the Quarry incident, North Kill saw a booming growth.  People wanted to move in or tour the mysterious sleepy town for the legends surrounding it.  Because of this larger population, a larger police force was needed.  And not only officers but, K-9 units as well.  They built a vet next door to the precinct.  It would double as the towns vet as well as be the police’s private unit for the dogs.
They hired her right away.  She was a new vet ready to start out on her own.  She didn’t care if it was in the middle of nowhere New York.  She was just ecstatic!  And, she was intrigued to be working with K-9 units.
She moved into her small apartment right away too.  It sat in the heart of town but everything was just a stones throw away.  She could walk to work if she ever wanted to.  Walking in, she was shocked to see the place.  It was so small.  She hoped that she was working with other nurses but, looking at the size and seeing she was the only one there, her fears grew.
Taking a walk around, she was delighted that everything was new.  Looking through the rooms and cages she heard the door open.  Looking back at the front she was met with another vet.  She sighed in relief.
“I thought I was the only one!”  She laughed.
The nurse smiled, “I’m glad you’re here early.  They told me over at the hospital I was getting a brand new recruit.”
“Oh so you’re a nurse from the hospital?”
They shook their head, “Yes, before this was built we had a small animal unit there.”
“Oh!  Neat!”  She introduced herself.
They did the same.  They both toured the facility getting to know where everything was.  The two quickly bonded over their love of animals and love for their memories at the quarry camp.
Travis was annoyed that he had to watch over so many new personnel let alone dogs.  He watched as the vet building got built.  He marveled how it took no time to get that thing ready and open.  It was bad enough he lost his whole family overnight, now he had to deal with a rapidly expanding infrastructure with entitled tourists stirring up trouble.  He closed his eyes and sighed.  He wished it would all just stop.  Everything.  His loneliness, his work, his exhaustion.  Opening them, he wondered who they got to be the special vets for the town.  He knew the one option from the hospital but was unsure of the second.  When opening day came, he decided he was going to check it out.
Walking over that morning, he noticed it was a cold fall day.  A fresh shipment of new dogs were brought in and flooded the vet office.  They all needed their shots and a check up.  He knew it was going to be a hellish day for them and he almost pitied them if it weren’t for the fact that he had to train those new units as well.  Walking over, he grimaced at the sound of barking and yelping just behind the doors.  Grabbing the handle he entered in.  The sound met his ears full on.  He saw a woman at the front desk.  He had never seen her in town before.  She had to be the new vet of the pair.  Walking up to the counter, her attention was drawn to a rambunctious pup who was jumping up and trying to get her attention.  She was struggling to calm the dog and in the process she flinched.  She was able to put the pup in the cage.  Closing it up she turned and jumped seeing Travis.
“I’m sorry officer I didn’t see you there.”
He gazed hard at her.  It put her off instantly.
“Did I do something wrong?”
He leaned in and stared at the side of her neck.  She glanced down and saw blood.  She quickly covered it with her hand not realizing she was scratched.
“Here let me.”  Was all he said.
He grabbed tissues from the counter and squirted the sanitizer on them.  He then slowly reached over towards her neck.  She didn’t know why but, she removed her hand and stood motionless.  It was as if she was transfixed by his eyes.  He gently dabbed it on the wound.  She winced slightly but he kept at the gentle pace of stroking the wound clean.  Her eyes would slowly travel to his hand then to his face.  He had large hands that nearly engulfed her entire neck.  His eyes were serious and dark yet his face looked soft and tired.  Something about him was mystical to her.  Eventually he leaned back and threw away the tissues.
“There you go.”
“Th-thank you officer….Sheriff!  Sorry, Sheriff.  Thank you Sheriff Hackett.”  She gazed at his badge.
He gave a nod.
“So did you need anything?”  She continued.
He shook his head, “No ma’am I’m just checking out the new building.”
“Ah!  Well I’m the new vet in town.  But I bet you figured that out by now.”  She introduced herself.
He gave another nod and turned to walk out.
“O-oh, have a nice day!”
He didn’t turn around but raised his hand in acknowledgement.  She was left there stunned as she watched him disappear.  What the hell happened?  Who was he?  She knew he was the Sheriff but who the hell was he?
“Alright everyone is packed down…what happened to your neck?”  Her coworker asked.
She snapped her gaze towards them, “Oh this one over here got a little frisky…say do you know who that sheriff is?”
“Travis?  Yeah what about him?”
“Ah Travis…he just came in to get a look at the place.”
“Did he say anything?”
“No, he’s not a very talkative guy.”
They chuckled, “No he is not.  But I can’t blame him.  He lost his family nearly a year ago.”
She looked at them, “Wait that’s the guy?  The guy from that family the news keeps taking about?”
“Yeah the Hacketts.  Travis was the only one to make it out alive.  He looked ghastly the morning when the news found him.  He was covered in blood and his clothing was torn.”
“Was it from some sort of animal attack?”
They nodded, “That’s what the story is.  And he doesn’t like talking about it.  No one blames him.  We’re just glad he still is our town’s sheriff.”
“Wow…so you must know him well if you’re calling him by his first name.”
They shook their head, “Eh not really.  The Hackett’s were pretty prominent in this town so I just have known them for awhile.  As for knowing Travis, I haven’t a damn clue about anything on that man.”
She nodded and glanced back out the door.  He was captivating to her.  Why did he feel so compelled to help clean her up?  It was weird but not unwelcome for some reason.  She was just stunned was all.  She hoped to see him again.  He was fascinating to figure out.
He felt shook all day after leaving the vet.  The entire encounter reminded him of something very similar that happened only a year ago.  He shut his eyes and sighed.  Was this something he wanted to entertain or run from?  Would she run from him?  Well, she might not if he doesn’t go and lock her up for months straight.  He shook his head.  It was a bad idea.  The new girl in town.  He didn’t know her and she didn’t know him except from what was out there in the news.  Besides, they just met for only moment.  It was absurd to think of building a relationship off of nothing.  But something about her instantly drew him in.  Call him a sucker for hurt women but, there was something more to it than that.  He felt it in his core.  She was someone he should go after.  It might be the last opportunity he got.
A fear struck him.  What if she thought of him as just the creepy sheriff?  Just an old weird cop in a backwater town.  He shouldn’t risk the chance.  Making his way to his office he shut the door to the outside.  He wouldn’t open himself up to such heartache.  He couldn’t take anymore.
As the days and weeks went on, the two couldn’t get the other out of their heads.  She hoped everyday to see him again.  Maybe find out a little more about him.  Maybe confirm if she really was interested him or not.  He was terrified to see her and feel the blooming feelings that were taking root in his chest.  It was just one encounter weeks ago but it stuck with him.  He couldn’t have a moment to himself without seeing her somewhere in his mind.  She felt the same.  And she felt she was already forgetting what his face looked like.
The door sounded and she looked up.  Her world stopped.  It was him.  His face was just as stern as she remembered and twice as handsome.  Her heart pounded in her chest.  She felt a magnetism that she couldn’t explain.
“Good morning Sheriff Hackett, what can I do for you?”  She said nearly breathless.
He went to speak but cleared his throat, “I um…I was making sure Bolt was ready for pick up today.  His officer is ready to handle him.”
“Ah yes, he should be finishing up now.”
The two stood in an awkward silence.  She looked around the room trying to avoid staring but failing.  He was doing the same but was less obvious about it.  Then a sudden bark and rush of paws was herd as the pup Bolt ran into her.  She smiled and bent down to place his leash on him.  His eyes went wide as her backside was fully presented to him.  He looked away as quickly as he could but it was already too late.  The image was seared into his mind and he could feel the horrible thoughts feverishly budding to the top.
“Here he is Sheriff!  All yours.”  She had come around the desk catching him off guard.
“Thank you ma’am, have a good day.”  He said with starry eyes taking the leash.  He turned and left the vet as quickly and smoothly as he could.
Her heart fluttered watching him turn and go.  She wished he would stay just a bit longer but, she knew that he was busy.  She felt depressed not knowing when the next time she would get to see him.  She couldn’t explain why he drew her in so much.  She didn’t know this man from Adam and yet here she was, wanting nothing more but a fraction of his attention.  Maybe even share a fraction of his bed.  She blushed and shook her head and sighed.  Maybe tomorrow he’d come in again.
He felt shaken as he walked the short walk back to the precinct.  His mind pushed horribly inappropriate thoughts behind his eyes.  She was just as beautiful as his mind built up.  And when she bent over…he felt himself blush.  What the hell was he going to do now?  Look at the old Sheriff falling for the new, young vet in town.  He shook his head.  He knew how this was going to go and it wasn’t good.  He decided to try and ignore it as best as he could.  But feeling those thoughts bringing the heat out in him, warned him otherwise.
Another couple of weeks went by.  She was chomping at the bit to see him.  She just needed to see him.  And feel him.  And talk with him.  She just wanted to know more about him.  Maybe if she spent time with him alone she wouldn’t feel so intrigued.  She was hoping this was just a misplaced case of forbidden mystery.  So on her lunch break she decided to drop in and give the sheriff a visit.
He wasn’t doing as well either.  His mind kept torturing him with sexual scenarios.  He tried to push them away.  He wanted to get to know her first before any thought like that should happen.  But his own body betrayed him.  All he could think about was bending her over on her counter or on his desk and have his way.  To hear her delicious sounds coming form her.  Feeling her become undone by his hand.  But before all that, he wanted to talk with her.  He wanted to gear her intentions toward him.  He couldn’t afford to trust anyone anymore, especially someone new.  He wanted to see how genuine she was and if she even returned the feelings he held.  A knock suddenly sounded at the door.
“Hey um…can I come in?”
“Uh…yeah, yes…is everything alright with the dogs?”  He stammered with wide eyes.
She stepped in, “Oh yes they’re all great!  I was just…well I was just on my break and decided to get to know you better.”
Alarm bells were going off in his head.  No! She didn’t want to know more about him.
He cleared his throat, “Oh…I was in the middle-”
She cut him off, “I’m sorry, you’re busy I shouldn’t have come.”  She was wringing her hands together.
He stood suddenly, “No!  I mean I’m available for a little while.”  He didn’t intend this.  His body just acted on instinct.
She smiled at him and his heart melted.
“I um, where did you want to talk?”  He asked.
“We can do it here if it’s more convenient for you.”
Her smile was driving him crazy, “That’s, that’s awfully nice of you.”
He went back to his desk and she shuffled towards one of his chairs facing him.  He felt so unlike himself.  He felt unsure.  He felt weak.  He felt warm.  And she brought this out in him.  He was uncomfortable but he couldn’t say he disliked it.
He cleared his throat again, “So what is it you want?”
“I um…I just, I’ve seen you around and haven’t really gotten to know you and well since we work closely I thought it be a good idea to do that.”
He sat back.  She just wanted his story.  She wanted to know how that night went, didn’t she?  He shook his head.  He was a fool to think she was interested in him for him.  Anger began to build.
“Oh, you want to know about my family and how they died?  Is that it?”
Her eyes widened in fear, “N-No!  I wanted-”
He stood and slammed his hands on his desk, “What?  You wanted to get all the rumors straight you’ve heard from the media, right?  Well I’m sorry to say you’ll get nothing of the sort here.  Get out.”
“N-No I just wanted to get to know you.”
“I said get out!”  He pointed at the door.
She jumped up and yelled, “I like you Travis!”
He stopped cold and stared at her.
Her anger melted quickly and her nerves crashed back into her, “I um…yeah, I like you.”
He shuddered.  This couldn’t be true, was it?
“Oh, I…!”  He began.
She kissed him.  She grabbed him by the collar and gently brought his lips to hers.  He gripped the desk completely off guard.  She broke away and stared at him.  She smiled as her hand smoothed how his uniform.  He took a shaky breath.  His eyes searched hers for any negative emotion.  Repulsion.  Hatred.  Spite.  But there was none.  Her eyes were full of tenderness and joy.
He kissed her.  She gave a squeak but her eyes rolled shortly after.  Her lips were so soft and warm on his.  The way she pressed into him was driving him mad.  He couldn’t believe this was happening.  He broke away.
“I-I’m sorry…I shouldn’t be doing this.”
Her face fell, “O-oh…I guess you don’t feel the same?  I’m so sorry.  Was I that bad a kisser?”
He gazed at her confused, “What?  Oh!  No, no!  I meant that I’m at work and shouldn’t be doing this here.”
She perked up, “Oh!  Ok, well if it’s not too forward you can meet me at my place afterwards.”
He blushed, “Sure.  I’d like that.”
“Great!”  They exchanged numbers and she texted him her address.  She said goodbye and dreamily walked out back to work.  Her coworker was astounded when she told them the news.
Tonight couldn’t roll around fast enough.  She made sure to leave a bit early, thanks to her coworker.  And, she wanted to pick up dinner.  What did he like?  Guessing and assuming he was a country man, good old meat and potatoes should be a winner.  She picked up a to-go order at the diner and headed home.  She cleaned the apartment a frenzy and decided to slip into a nice dress she had.  She wasn’t sure what time Travis was coming over so she just prepared for any minute.
He rapidly got work done.  He allowed his lieutenants to take over the night, as much as he hated it.  But, he was a gentleman and of that his mother beat it into him to never be late to anything.  Even if work butts heads with that.  At least that’s what she argued whenever that was his excuse.  Making his way to his car he felt nervous.  He hasn’t been over a woman’s house in so long.  He was terrified he was going to mess this up somehow.
He found that she lived close by to well, everything.  Pulling in, he turned off his headlights and hopped out of the vehicle.  Walking up to the right apartment door be smoothed out his appearance before knocking.  And he only had to wait a second before the door opened.  His eyes softened and his body relaxed.  She was beaming at him and wearing something so tantalizing he almost forgot he was a gentleman.
“Evening ma’am.”  He greeted.
“Evening Sheriff.  Would you like to come in?”
He smiled, “I’d be glad to.”
He stepped over the threshold and his soul felt at home.  He couldn’t explain it but everything about her home just welcomed him in with open arms.  He didn’t even remember the last time a place was so inviting of him.  Not even his own home did this.
She felt a completeness about the place.  He was in her home and she couldn’t be happier.  He made everything click into place for her.  She was still getting used to North Kill and felt that something was missing.  Something isolating.  But with him in her place, the first person to visit; she felt a wholeness she couldn’t describe.  She felt at home.
“I didn’t know what you liked so I made an assumption about you.”
He grinned, “And what would that be darlin’?”
She smiled and brought over the containers, “Classic red meat and mashed potatoes.”
He took one box in his hand and his smile softened, “You can’t go wrong with that.”
She cheered, “Yes!  I was right!”
God she was adorable.  He felt himself slipping further and further under.  Any more and he wouldn’t be able to keep himself off of her.
She patted the bar top connected to her kitchen, “Come, sit, eat!  Tell me how the rest of your day went.”
The two quickly became wrapped up in each other.  She was giggling like crazy and he was smiling more than he had in years.  The two shared fun stories from their past and talked about their dreams.  He was careful to dodge any family questions.  And she remembered enough to not ask.  As dinner wrapped up, she threw away the containers.  Turning around she jumped seeing him so close.  She smiled as she gazed into his eyes.  He gazed so softly back at her.  In the next moment, their chests pressed into one another and their lips met once more.
They both were nervous.  Neither wanted to rank up the passion.  However, as the kiss went on, the fever began to build.  She slid her hands up to his neck and deepened the kiss.  His head began to spin and his body burned.  In the next instant he picked her up and walked them towards a door.  He guessed which one was her bedroom and guessed right.
Entering in he tossed her on the bed.  She spread her legs.  Her eyes were heavy with desire.  He felt lust overcome him.  His hands trembled as he began to undo his belt.  She rose to her knees and helped.  Throwing down his pants and underwear, his large dick met her face.  Her mouth watered and she downed him.  He gasped in surprise at the sudden sensation of her instantly deep throating him.
She gripped his thighs as she sucked him.  She hummed and worked vigorously.  He moaned and couldn’t take it anymore.  He rolled his hips and lightly thrust into her mouth.  She gripped him harder and moaned louder as he did.  They went like this for awhile.  She was the one to tap out.  Her jaw ached too much.
He was feeling rabid with lust.  He grabbed her and flipped her onto her front.  She gasped as she felt him move her hips up and lift her dress.    Her hands gripped the bed sheets as she felt the head of his cock rub at her entrance and up and down her clit.  Her breath hitched as she felt his hands grasp her hips.  In one slow movement he entered her.  With a final thrust he was fully in and she let out a loud moan.
He lifted his head and sighed.  He’s been wanting to do this for weeks.  Her mouth gaped open as she felt him in her.  She never wanted something so bad before.  He began to fuck her into the bed.   She arched her back and reached down between her spread legs.  She began to rub her clit as he pounded into her.  She felt his dick widen her as she reached in.
He quickly lost it.  She felt amazing around him and the sounds she was making only spurred him on more.  Hearing no resistance and feeling her become impossibly wet, he went faster and deeper.  His eyes clothes and his mouth parted.  He wasn’t sure how much longer he was going to last.  Fortunately she erupted into screams and spasms.  He gasped feeling her vagina vibrate and moisten further around him.  With a few more desperate thrusts and gasps, he shouted.  He came and it tore through him.  It had been so long and it felt so right.  It almost felt like too much.
She was shuddering and struggling to keep herself up.  Panting and looking down at her, he noticed her trembling limbs.  He gently removed himself and gathered her in his arms.  He laid them down on her bed and brought her close to his heart.  The two rested until their breathing evened and synced up with the other.  Once he caught his breath he looked down at her.
“I didn’t go too far did I?”
She shook her head, “No, it was perfect!”
“Good.”
The two dozed off in that position.
The days following held an energetic crackle around them.  Soon everyone in town was made aware of their relationship.  Travis was terrified but she calmed his fears and made it clear to anyone who might disagree that it was none of their business or happiness.  He was grateful for that.  For her.  The more he knew about her the more his heart swelled in his chest.  The more that feeling of home just felt like the norm.  She felt that she belonged here because of him.  Moving to a small town without family or friends around was a gamble.  But he made her feel at home.  He brought a sense of love and belonging she hasn’t felt before.
The two continued their relationship and couldn’t believe how wonderful it was going.  There were hiccups and bumps what with Travis not being the best communicator and both being stubborn.  But it always smoothed out.  As they closed up shop for the day together, they smiled.  Walking arm and arm, the sunset cocooned them in a warm blanket with the promise of endless happy days to come.

No thoughts just thinking about Dante reuniting with Travis and immediately noticing all of his bodily scars, injuries, and all the broken bones and asking him in a hushed tone, “Who did this to you?”
No thoughts just thinking about how Travis would have been going home in a wheelchair or in crutches, maybe even both depending on how strong his healing factor was; and Dante just going with it 100% percent to nurse him back to his feet. (And if he’s going to stay in that wheelchair for the rest of his life, Dante would be by his side through all of it)
No thoughts just Dante noticing Travis’ fatigue using either one of these and just picking him up himself. They both love it and will not admit it out loud.
No thoughts just Dante finally learning how to cook for the both of them for the sake of trying to help Travis out and also helping Travis get used to food that isn’t just hospital mush after two years.
No thoughts just Dante going out of his way to get Travis every little thing he takes an interest in. He notices a book series Travis says he’s never read? Goes and buys the whole set on Amazon and surprises it for him while they’re on the couch. It’s what he deserves.
No thoughts just Dante and Travis going out and Dante gladly, HAPPILY, wheeling Travis around because he just can’t believe that the two of them are hanging out together after so long.
No thoughts just Dante and Travis on the couch cuddled up next to each other because they’ve been without each other for so long that now they’re at home all they want to do is stay as close to each other as possible.
No thoughts just Dante laying on top of Travis while the other man plays with his hair. He likes hearing his heartbeat and it often puts him to sleep.
No thoughts just Dante and Travis deciding one day that they should just sleep on the same bed after falling asleep on the couch together for so long. They almost always end up wrapped in each others arms after a while.
No thoughts just Dante and Travis living a happy and peaceful life together after the events of Starlight knowing nothing will ever separate them again.

I Never Knew the Moonlight
This is a tender piece of the reader working at the reopened Hackett's Quarry and working with Travis. A touch of angst but mostly tenderness. For mature audiences. #travis hackett #the quarry #travis hackett x reader #unnamed reader #nonbinary reader #romance #smut #tender #sad #happy ending The news about Hackett’s Quarry reached the nation.  It was shocking and devastating for those kids eager to return this summer up to those grown who wistfully remember great times there.  News speculated a mass murder of the Hackett family possibly done by some wild animal.  It was unknown what animal and why.  However, the only surviving Hackett refused to leave a comment or give his side of the story.  Despite the grizzly news and potential conspiracy surrounding the ordeal, people looked to him to see what he’d do with the quarry.  To the dismay of many children near and far, radio silence was met.  That was until May swung around and suddenly advertisements for Hackett’s Quarry surfaced.  An audible thrill went throughout the states.  It was saved!
Since he was the only one left working the area, he had to acquire a stronger police presence and employ new counselors for the year.  He remained the sheriff and bounced back between the camp and the precinct.  He didn’t trust the new recruits even though their job was to specifically oversee the precinct and the town, while he was maintaining the quarry.  As for the counselors, he hired older more wiser people for the positions.  He was done playing games with children who didn’t take danger seriously.  Ads went out for each position: cook, nurse, cabin aids, monitors, radio host, musicians, cleaners, lifeguards, etc.  And since he wasn’t well versed with the bookkeeping for such an ordeal, he needed a secretary to make the calls to parents and gather the money and keep track of the reports.
Once they caught sight of the ad from their local email chain in job searching, they were absolutely thrilled.  Hackett’s Quarry was a s sentimental thing to them.  They always enjoyed the camp and felt horribly sad that Chris Hackett was no longer present.  Looking through the positions they weren’t thrilled at the hard labor of cleaning or cooking.  Kids also weren’t their favorite thing but they wouldn’t turn down such a job because of it.  Near the bottom of the list, their eyes lit up.  A secretarial position!  Helping out the new head of the camp with paper work or the occasional phone call was right up their alley.
Instantly uploading their resume they paused.  They embellished a few parts highlighting phone experience, baby-sitting, and excellent computer and math skills.  Half of that was true.  They made sure there was space near the end of the resume to copy and paste the buzz words from the job listing and whited them out.  Then they had to make sure their cover letter sold it all.  Pondering after what seemed like half an hour, they decided to make it direct and to the point.  They were sure this Sheriff Hackett was overwhelmed with long, thick piles of resumes from nostalgics like them or young kids looking for an easy summer gig.  Typing a calculated summary of what they could offer, they sent it in.  All they had to do was wait.
After a few weeks had passed they gave up hope.  They sighed but shrugged it off.  Who wanted to work upstate in the middle of nowhere New York anyway?  That was until they received an email requesting a date and time for their interview and a background check.  They were thrilled!  Upstate New York was their favorite place to be!  They gave in several dates and times and waited for the reply.
Driving up, they were so excited.  They hadn’t been back to the quarry in what seemed like decades.  Winding past endless roads with an endless ocean of forests, they saw the road sign for it: Hackett’s Quarry.  Feeling another surge of excitement they pulled in on the dirt road and parked outside the main office.  Getting out they couldn’t believe their eyes.  It felt like coming home.  It was exactly as they had left it all those years ago.  They couldn’t help notice the excess traffic of cars coming and going.  It must be they weren’t the only interview today and those already hired are setting up for the season.
Walking up the wooden stairs they entered into the open doors.  They heard commotion coming from what they remembered was Chris Hackett’s office.  A person was walking out looking dejected.  A man poked his head out after them.  His eyes landed on theirs,
“Are you my 3:30?”
They nodded.
He jerked his head towards the inside of the office, “Let’s go.”
They gulped, feeling nervous.  This man wasn’t playing.  And upon further inspection he was dressed in a cop’s uniform.  He had to be the surviving Hackett.  Crossing the room they moved into Chris’ old office.  It gave them tender flashbacks of simpler times.  A sadness washed over them as they knew it was all gone now.  He sat at Chris’ desk and gestured for them to take a seat across.  They nervously shuffled in and took the chair opposite him.  His eyes stared at them with a steely, emotionless gaze.  He was terrifying.
“So you’ve applied for my secretary position.”
“Yes sir.”  They held their hands still on their lap, their posture was rigid.
His cold gaze swept over them again, “Why do you think you’re qualified for this job.”
“Because I am familiar with the camp, I am great with kids, I can talk with difficult parents, and I am well organized…sir.”
“Hm, what are some examples.”
“Well I used to babysit my cousins.  Figuring out how to entertain toddlers to teenagers definitely keeps you on your toes.  I’ve worked in retail so having to disarm a situation with an angry customer is second nature.  And as I’ve said before, I used to attend this camp when I was younger so I have inside knowledge and familiarity with the landscape.  Also I have a slight OCD making it impossible for me to leave a mess unattended.”
He gave a small smile, “You’re concise and to the point, I like that.  As you’ll be working directly under me and interacting with me on a daily basis, that is a must.  I don’t stand for idle anecdotes or long winded stories; if I ask you something I want a straight answer.  So far you’ve done just that.”
They gave a curt nod, afraid to break their poise and give a smile.
He sighed, “I have waves more of interviews to go through but, keep an eye on your email.”  He stood.
They stood to match him
He extended his hand, “You might be hearing from me soon.”
They shook his hand with a firm, unwavering grip.  He gestured to the door and they evenly walked out with the same tall posture.  Walking out they heard the door close behind them.  Glancing behind to be sure he was out of eyesight they hunched over and sighed.  That was brutal but not the worst.  Regaining composure, they smiled as they made their way to their car.  That was promising.
Weeks went by.  They religiously checked their emails to the point it consumed their days.  They felt dejected.  Why hadn’t they heard anything back?  There couldn’t possibly be someone better than them for this position right?  Maybe there was.  Maybe they weren’t good enough.  Hanging their head they were about to give up hope.  Hearing a notification, they lifted their eyes and saw it was from Hackett’s Quarry!
It told them they were given the job if they accepted.  They’d start next week, the week before camp opened.  They’d be staying in the second counselors cabin and was told to make sure to bring sufficient clothing and materials for health.  They instantly responded that they were honored to accept and will be their bright and early next week.  They couldn’t believe it.
They had packed excessively leading up to the day before.  Making sure three times over they had everything, they moved out to North Kill, NY.  It was a dream to be working there.  Being at that serene camp was going to do them good.  Though, they shuddered, the thought of any more grizzly ‘animal’ attacks caused a fear to strike through them.  But with the measures Sheriff Hackett had in place and the media laying any suspicions to rest, they felt at ease.  Arriving, the sun was in the throes of setting.  Parking in the back they got out and went back to Chris’ office.
It was a little creepy in the late afternoon they couldn’t lie.  They saw the door was open so they popped their head in.
“Am I interrupting?”  They asked him.
He looked up at them, “Oh, no.  You’re a bit early.”
They smiled, “I made good time.”
He stood and walked over to them, “I suppose you should start by setting up in your cabin.  Once that’s done come back and see me, I’ll give you the run down of your duties.”
“Yes sir!”  They smiled and turned to go back to their car.
The mood felt right.  They felt off on the right foot arriving early and fortunately he wasn’t interrupted by that fact.  Grabbing everything from their car they made it around the entire camp to get to their cabin.  The breeze blew gently threw the trees.  The sun was a deep orange about to dip under the horizon.  Opening the door they found a small room with two bunks.  Setting their stuff down on a bottom bunk, they peeked back out and saw the communal bathroom not too far off.  Shrugging they set everything in order so as to make it easier tonight when they got back.  Satisfied, they turned and went back to Chris’ office.
“There is a side desk for you when I’m here working here.  Otherwise you’ll be taking the main desk for most of your job.  Don’t let the phone ring for too long and answer any emergencies as they come.  Got it?”
They nodded, “Got it!”
He gave a nod and turned to leave.  Remembering something he turned back, “Oh and this is your pager.  All the other counselors will have theirs and you’ll freely be able to talk with one another; just don’t turn it into constant conversation.  Also yours is the only pager that directly links to mine, so if any real problem needs my attention feel free to contact me.”
“Alright and I assume the ‘no cellphone’ thing is still in effect?”
“In keeping up with my brothers wishes, yes.  However, you and I will be the only ones breaking that rule.  Since I am needed at the precinct quite often, I need to make sure I’m connected to them.  And for you I need to make sure there’s a way to contact outside help in the case of a severe emergency.  Just don’t tell anyone else.”
They smiled, “Understood.”
“That sums it up.  I’m done with you, so feel free to walk the grounds or do whatever it is you want that isn’t destructive.”
“I shall Sheriff!”
He turned to leave and they smiled, gazing around the office.  They were happy and content to be here.  Though, it was very bittersweet knowing that Chris was no longer here.  It was sad to know that Kaylee and Caleb won’t be running by with some mischievous plan.  Sitting in the chair it felt terribly weird.  It wasn’t weird to sit in Chris’ chair since they used to do it all the time when running around with other campers.  But it was weird taking charge in Chris’ chair.  What a world.  Getting up they decided that it was a good idea to take a walk around.
The sun was just barely over the lake as they walked through the trees.  The night was nice and cool and the breeze was gentle.  They reflected on the fact that they were an adult working here instead of a child having fun.  Though, they’d probably still have fun.  As long as Sheriff Hackett wasn’t too strict with them of course.  They’d hope to sit around the fire at night and sing songs or share stories at least.
They wondered if Sheriff was going to do all that.  They couldn’t imagine a stern, rigid man like him sitting and joking around with kids.  They guessed that’s what the musician positions were for.  Yes it seemed that he was going to be very hands off.  They shrugged, it was his quarry now anyway.  They were just grateful that it was reopened.  That was very nice of him to do.  It couldn’t have been easy either.  Having to rip off the bandaid of remembering his family like this and take over.  Not to mention he has to run everything when basically a village of Hacketts tended to this place before.  Now it was just him.  All him.
Turning down the way, they were beginning to round the lake.  They chuckled to themselves at the thought of how bad some of these kids parents were going to get.  They guessed that around 5 were going to be excessive worriers with heavily medicated kids and at least 10-15 others were going to be helicopter Karens.  Either way it was their job and they were glad to be sharing the land here.  As it was getting dark they went back and decided to turn it for the night.  Maybe some other counselors were there by now.
Entering in there were others in the cabin.  They introduced themselves and they found that the other three staying here were pleasant people.  They didn’t get the vibe that any of them were out to be mean or domineering.  Hopefully it staid this way.  They went around the room giving out their job title, name, and where they were from.  One was a cook, another a nurse, and the other was a counselor for the younger kids.  The room was intrigued when they all heard that they were the secretary.  Some were curious what that position was for when they saw it.  They explained it was basically doing what Chris Hackett used to in regards to calling parents and keeping tabs on any disasters or aiding wherever Sheriff Hackett needed.
Then the conversation turned towards him.  They were in awe that he went ahead and reopened the camp.  The crew couldn’t believe he was the only surviving Hackett and they began to gossip as to what really happened here.  Some began to spin conspiracies of aliens or that it was a hidden government test site.  While others thought that it had to do with a crazy serial killer running rampant in the county.  And few thought it had to do with their whiskey being poisoned by jealous competition.
They shook their head and smiled.  They didn’t believe any of it nor did they care to investigate.  They wanted to give the poor man his privacy.  What was out was out.  Any more details would’ve been provided if it was necessary.  Leaning back in bed, they began to dose off listening to the idle chatter of their bunkmates.
The first morning came in like a lion.  The harsh, piercing sound of the horn and screams to get out of bed were not welcomed.  Sitting up, their body was demanding they lay back down.  Swinging their legs over the side they hunched over.  This was something to get used to.  The others were just as groggy but were already nearly out the door.  How?  Standing they felt woozy and readjusted their balance.  Grabbing their clothes they went to hit the showers before heading to their post.
The communal shower was another thing to get used to.  They felt very exposed but decided to get a quick scrub down.  Get in and out.  Not to mention hat water wasn’t the hottest. Hopping out they dressed and ran over to Chris’ office.  Entering in and up they swung on in.  Sheriff was already there, no surprise.
“You’re late.”
“I apologize sir, I went to get a quick shower.  I will shower in the evening from now on to avoid being late again.”
“You better.”
They walked around to the set up side desk, “Anything I need to know?”
“We’ve already had a couple calls from very…’worrisome’ parents for a few campers asking how their night will go.  I’m not the coddling type so I told them to only check in with medical information that we might not previously have.  You can be as lenient as you like but, I rather not receive dozens of calls taking up the phone lines worrying about if little Timmy wiped his nose or not.”
They laughed, “I’m on it sir.  No nonsense over here.”
“Good to know.  I’ll be gone for awhile.  I need to check in at the station then I will take the first patrol around camp.  Page me if any emergency happens.”
“You got it!”
As he turned and left they sat down at Chris’ desk.  They sighed.  So it begins!
They were swamped with phone calls.  With many of them they had to set straight to the parents in not calling unless medically necessary.  Others needed more convincing that the camp was absolutely safe.  And some were honest in forgetting to mention a thing or two about their kids.  As the sun began to dip below the tree line, the door creaked open revealing Sheriff Hackett.
“Ah!  Welcome back, how’s everything?”
“All secure.”
They got up and moved to the side desk allowing him to sit at the main one.  He sighed as he sat down.  He put his head in his hands.  He looked exhausted.  They felt like saying something but since their work relationship was so new, they hesitated.
Lifting his head he asked, “Were there any calls?”
They chuckled, “How about what hour weren’t there calls.”
He cracked a small smile, “Any of importance?”
“Only a couple and I noted them and sent those off to the nurse.  The rest I gently put in their place to not call back unless it was an emergency.”
“Good.”  He shifted in his seat, “I believe I can take this from here.  You’re free to go.  Just do one evening patrol for me.”
They got up, “Are you sure?”
He nodded.
“Alright!  Let me know if you need me again.  I’ll be on standby.”
He gave a grunt and they exited the office.  They felt guilty leaving him like that but really didn’t know what else to say.  Walking out into the fading daylight they smiled and went back to their cabin.  No one was there so they just sat for a moment and took out their phone.  Looking at the door they made sure no one was about to come through as they caught up on things.  After around an hour of that they decided it was time for their evening patrol.  Getting up they went to leave and crossed their three bunkmates.  They exchanged greetings and they explained they were tasked with a patrol.  They said they had found some vintage snacks and would save some for them for when they got back.  They were very thankful.
The night was rising as they started their round.  The moon was becoming bright as it shown through the trees.  Walking on, they yawned and thought of their busy day.  It was just tides of parents.  A never ending sea of whiny moms.  Hopefully after today that will filter out and be virtually nonexistent by next week.  Then they thought about Sheriff Hackett.  He looked utterly exhausted.  He probably was still at the office.  Looking back they saw the lights on.  For sure he was still there.  Next time they were going to say something, at least offer their services.  It wasn’t right for one man to run an entire summer camp and an entire police force by himself.  That wasn’t healthy.
Walking on they gazed at the lake flanking their route.  The moonlight reflected brilliantly off the still surface.  Smiling, they hoped they would get an opportunity to swim in it.  Even if it was at night.  Looking around, this place was indeed serene.  It was so romantic and held so many tales of loves and heartaches.  They doubt that they’d connect with any other counselor here, especially if they were going to stay cramped up in the office all day.  They didn’t mind though.  Making friends who would only be ripped away a few months later wasn’t worth the despair.  They’d be sure to keep relations at a distance to avoid any grief.
Looping back, the night was fully in bloom.  Crickets and cicadas made their loud music.  The cabins became aglow one by one.  They smiled.  It was so wonderful to see so much life here.  Walking on they went to the showers so as to not be late again for tomorrow.  Glancing at the office they saw the light still on.  Shaking their head they entered the communal bath.
That night went by pleasantly.  Their bunkmates kept their promise in saving some snacks for them.  One of which they were surprised still existed: Peanut butter butter pops.  A classic from their childhood.  They sat and ate as they joyfully listened to the gossip the rest had to share.  It was delightful to hear since they missed the goings about during the day.  To hear the drama unfold between two counselors who dated years ago was juicy.  They took bets on which camper will make a move on their crush and when.  And of course the poll for who was the hottest counselor began.  They weren’t surprised their name wasn’t on the list.  No one new that they were here except their bunkmates and Sheriff Hackett.
Feeling a lull in the conversation they decided to get some early sleep.  It would help combat that early morning rise they dreaded so much.  Turning over they smiled as they fell asleep to the whispering and light laughter the room set for them.  A pleasant white noise for slumber.
The week went on as expected.  The early rising didn’t get any better but they soon found that their body was becoming numb to it.  The phone calls slowly died down each day which was a breath of fresh air.  Sheriff Hackett would either be gone for most of the day or be out on the camp grounds maintaining order.  They occasionally watched him from the office window.  It was interesting to see him interact with the kids.  His stern demeanor never wavered but it always looked like he entertained their fantasies or play.  It made them smile.  It was endearing to see.
Evenings went about the same.  Sheriff would come back exhausted and they’d be tasked to go patrol, then they’d take a shower, return to the cabin, gossip, and sleep.  It wasn’t much else than that.  It was a bit disappointing but there was plenty of time left to do something they’d enjoy or partake in.  It was during the first weekend they felt moved to help him.  It weighed on them to see him so tired.
“If you like sir, I can take it from here.  You can go get some rest.  I can’t imagine how difficult it is for someone to be running both here and a police force.”
He glanced over at them and gave a small smile, “That’s very appreciated.  After a few orders of business I might take you up on that.”
They sat back with a satisfied smile.  Out of all the tabs they had to keep and the kids they had at camp, it was him they worried about the most.  Something about him drew instant sympathy out of them.  It most likely had to do with the fact his entire family was dead.  After a few more minutes of him typing up whatever he was doing he got up from his seat.
“Have a good night.”
“You too, Sheriff!”
They smiled silly to themselves.  They felt amazing getting him to go and get extra rest.  Glancing out the window they saw the sun begin to dip down.  Looking near the lake they saw the sparks of a fire begin to ignite.  It was campfire time.  Wrapping everything up they decided they’d reward themselves with a nice evening event around the fire.  Keeping their pager on, checking any last emails, and any leftover voicemails, they closed up and headed down.
The kids were already swarming around the logs.  They walked up with a few counselors they’ve never seen before and tentatively stood on the outskirts of the crowd.  On the spot in the center were a pair of boys with instruments.  One had an acoustic guitar while the other had bongos.  They must be the hired musicians.  As the throng stabilized and no others joined, the strumming of the guitar began to sound.  He began to sing and his friend backed him up with his bongos.
Looking around the crowd once more they found their bunkmates and waved them down.  Noticing them, they gestured for them to join them.  Smiling they ran round to them.  They greeted them as they hopped on in next to them.  The night went on pleasantly.  They joined in the group songs with their bunkmates who put their arms around each other and swayed to the rhythm.  Glancing between the fire and starlight, their heart sang in their chest.  It was an awfully romantic setting.  They guaranteed some little campers were feeling it too, towards their crushes.  Looking around they smiled upon seeing a few pair up or others talking shyly with some.  The moon hung brightly overhead and they took it as the time to make the evening patrol.  Telling their bunkmates goodnight and don’t wait up, they disappeared into the forest.
Retreating into the trees, they heard the music grow further away.  As the light of the fire dimmed from behind, the brilliance of the full moon illuminated overhead.  They hoped Sheriff was getting rest.  After all, it wasn’t all that serious.  Killing yourself for a summer camp could take a back burner when it came to a persons health.
Rounding the trees, everything in them froze.  Someone was here.  Their gaze looked wildly about.  Nothing moved but the hairs on their arms stood on end.  Hearing a clink they jumped.  It came from behind a tree to their far right.  Grabbing hold of their taser and pager they silently moved forward.  Their heart pounded out of their chest.  They felt tears of fear sting their eyes.  Rounding the bend they saw a form of a man.
“Excuse me but you can’t be out here!”
Their voice startled him.  Getting a look at his face their eyes lit up with recognition.
“Sheriff?”
He held up his hands.  One was clutching a whiskey bottle, “It’s just me.”
“Why are you out here?  You should be resting.”
He nodded, “I know.  I decided to do the night patrol…didn’t I page you?” His voice was a little slurred.  He was obviously drunk.
“No I must’ve missed it.  Come on I got the rest of this.”
They moved to take his arm to steady him towards the path.  He stumbled anyway.  They caught him with both hands; one on his chest and the other his upper arm.  Holy shit he was jacked!  Their mind spun for a second and they looked up at his face.  They saw moisture in his eyes and on his cheeks.  Was he crying?
“Steady now.  Are you alright sir?”
He moved to stand straight, “Yeah yeah.”  He tried to wave them off.
“Come on let’s make sure no one sees you like this.”
The two walked around the long way.  They brought him around where no campers would see him.  Cutting through the cabins and towards the radio tower, they asked,
“Where would you like to go?”
“Back to the office.”
“Sir with all do respect, you should get to bed.”
“No I sleep there.”
“Oh…ok.”
Was there a bed there?
Rounding behind the office building they entered the back door.  Helping him up the steps he guided them towards a back closet that opened up into a room.  They had no idea an extra room was back here.  It was fitted with a bed and small nightstand.  It made sense.  Chris had to sleep somewhere and somewhere preferably without the knowledge of nosey kids.
“I can take it from here.”  He mumbled.  And he stumbled forward and landed on the bed.
In an instant he was out.  They were shocked to silence.  Why was he drunk?  Why was he outside if they told him they had the rest of the night?  Why was he crying?  Closing the door gently behind them, they walked to the showers in a daze.
They couldn’t stop thinking about it.  It was so wild just finding him there.  Finding him drunk and crying behind a tree.  Then they sighed.  It had to do with his family probably.  You just don’t get over something like that.  Remember catching him they sighed again.  He was so muscular.  Shaking their head they needed to stop thinking about it.  They really didn’t want to make it weird with him.  He was a closed off man as it was.  Dwelling on this, on him, would just make everything horrible.  Hopping out they headed to their cabin.
They were greeted by their bunkmates like normal.  They asked how their patrol went.  Stiffening for a moment they lied and said it went as normal as usual.  Deflecting, they asked how the rest of the campfire went.  This sent them in a frenzy as some campers made some drama of someone kissing their boyfriend and began fighting.  They chuckled glad they missed it.  After the spirited chatter died down they laid down for the night.  Tomorrow was going to be interesting.
Arriving to work they tentatively peaked in.  Sighing with relief, they were alone.  Sitting at the side desk they began their routine.  They knew he was coming by sometime, so might as well just situate themselves out of the way.  Catching up on emails he walked in.
They sat stock still in their seat.  They felt their heart race.  Sweat was beginning to run down the back of their neck.  Why were they so nervous?  He made his way to the desk and didn’t acknowledge them.  They tried their best to act normal and continue as if nothing was happening.  As if no awkward tension was budding between them.  After what seemed like half an hour they briefly forgot he was there.  That was until he turned to them and said,
“I’d appreciate it if what happened last night staid between us.”
They flashed a genuine smile at him, “It’s already forgotten sir.”
He gave a nod and a small smile.  As he went back to what he was doing he added, “And it’s Travis.”
“Travis?”
He nodded, “After last night I’d say you’ve earned my first name.”
They smiled again, “Alright, Travis.”
Going forward the air between the two of them became more comfortable.  An understanding was forming.  An understanding of what?  They weren’t sure, but some sort of understanding was there.  The ease of which using his first name became easier and easier as well.  They didn’t realize that a month already flew by as they staid cooped up inside the office with him.  All thought of squeezing in extra activities after their shift flew from their mind.  They couldn’t figure out why.  Where did their mind go?  Where did the time go?
They began to notice something different.  Travis was a bit more at ease with them when they were alone.  A smile would form on his face more often.  And he’d ask them questions he previously would just have figured out himself.  They never noticed until they snapped out of their gaze and realized just how much time flew by like this.  The summer was slipping away and they were spending it all indoors with him.  But that didn’t seem to bother them as much as they thought it would.
As they thought on about all this they didn’t realize the mud puddle they slid into.  Trying to regain composure they toppled over.  Grunting and swearing, they angrily finished their patrol and marched to the showers.  They had to go clean these clothes somehow.  Stepping out of the soiled outfit they hopped into the shower.  They didn’t realize just how late it got.  Hopefully they don’t awake anyone.
Travis heard the commotion in the woods and found it odd.  Everyone was in bed by now and the patrol should’ve finished up awhile ago.  Keeping a hand on his gun he looked around.  He heard noise from the shower.  He grew angry.  So help him if some kids were fooling around in there.  Approaching they heard a loud moan.  He raced inside.
“What do you think you’re doing!”
His voice caused them to scream and they nearly fell within the shower.
“I’m not going to ask you again!”
They yanked back the curtain to reveal their face, “Travis it’s me!”
His face bore shock, “Oh…what are you doing up so late?”
“I was doing the patrol but I found that I took way longer than usual.”
“Everything alright?”
“Yeah I just slipped in some mud.  I’m sorry if I disturbed you.”
He cleared his throat to hide the rising embarrassment, “No worries.  Good night.”
“Good night Travis.”
They heard his footsteps retreat.  Once they were sure he was gone they let out a sigh.  They raised a hand to their face.  How embarrassing.  He just caught them nearly naked.  A blush crept on their face.  Would that have been so bad?  What were they thinking!  They needed to get their head straight.  Spacing out is really getting them in trouble.  Shaking it off they finished up and went to bed.
Travis slipped off near the office.  He leaned on an outside post and let out a shaky sigh.  It was them.  He heard them moan.  He almost caught them naked.  He felt himself tremble and he shut his eyes.  Why did this bother him so much.  He felt a wave of warmth spread through him thinking how he caught them.  Then he felt a flash of anger realizing they were exposed and vulnerable taking showers at night like that.  What if he wasn’t able to come to their aid if anything happened?  Feeling his nerves fray and his heart pound he walked it off back up to the office.
That next morning was awkward.  All that calm and ease they felt with each other was completely stripped away.  They felt it hard to look one another in the eye.  Something was happening between them but they couldn’t tell if it was good or bad.  A few weeks went by like this.  Their mind was ablaze with what they were feeling.  They felt confused.  They couldn’t possibly have a crush on Travis.  And Travis had so much on his plate and way more to worry about.  He surely didn’t have time for something so frivolous.  Especially if they were going to be gone in the following few weeks.
They hardly talked to each other.  It was if they both tried to avoid it as much as possible.  Either of them sensed something going on but neither wanting to speak up about it.  The silence was broken when a storm rolled in that afternoon.  Travis stood and looked at them.
“I’ll help you with this evening patrol.  Can’t have you get caught in the rain in the dark.”
They blushed, “O-Oh you don’t have to Travis.  I can get it done quick.”
He shook his head, “Best be careful.”  He looked out the window.  He was making a point not to look at them.
The heat rose throughout their body, “Alright then.  I’ll go right you go left.  We’ll meet up and rush on back.”
He gave a nod and turned to go back to his work.
That patrol came sooner than they liked.  It hadn’t stopped raining all afternoon.  By the time it did they both decided it was now or never to get it done.  An announcement out making sure everyone was in their cabin for safety.  They ran out and carefully sped walked through the mud.  Thunder rumbled overhead.  They sprinted through their side to get it done.  Turning the bend they saw Travis running towards them in from the opposite side.  A smile overtook him upon seeing him suddenly.  Their heart pounded.  Jogging forward they were close to meeting.  A lightning strike rung out scaring them.  They stumbled and began to fall off the bank and tumble towards the lake.  They screamed and waited for the splash of water.  But, everything just stopped
“I’ve got you!”
Travis had his hand grappling their arm.  He effortlessly pulled them back up and made sure they were on solid ground.  They both were panting.  He brought them close to him and he gazed at their face intently.
“Are you hurt?”
They shook their head.  They were so close to each other.  His hand flew out to the side of their face and he tilted it to make sure there weren’t any scratches.  Their breath caught in their throat and the two locked eyes.  They stared at each other for what seemed like forever.  Another rumble of thunder sounded and they were on each other.
Their lips crashed into one another.  He brought both his hands to their face as they grasped his arms.  His lips were so soft on theirs.  They pushed in their tongue causing a surprised moan to escape from him.  They hummed in success.  In the next instant the rain began to pour.  Their kiss became too slippery and they both felt as if they were drowning.  Locking eyes once more they saw a passionate fire reflected in one another’s irises.  They simultaneously ran back to the office.
They were being absolutely soaked.  Their clothes stuck to their frames.  They could barely hear their own footsteps at the sound of the teaming rain.  With one more flash of lightning they were inside.  They were dripping in the now quiet building.  The sound of the silence was deafening.  As they turned around they gave a startled squeak.  Travis had lifted them up and over his shoulder.
“Let’s go get warm and dry.”  He said.  His voice was an octave lower.
He brought them to the back room with his bed.  Setting them down he closed the door from behind him.  His eyes never left them.  His hands gently grasped their clothing and with an approving nod, they allowed him to strip them bare.  Their flesh felt cold and clammy as the drenched fabric separated from their skin.  Reaching towards him they began to undo his uniform.
His chest matched his muscular build perfectly.   His arms rippled with strength.  Going lower his thighs were thick and strong.  They stood back and gawked.
“Wow.”
He smirked, “You like what you see?”
They could only nod.
“I can say the same myself.”  He was gazing up down at their half naked form.
They blushed, “Oh…well I-I’m glad.”
He moved closer and slid his hands on their waist.  They kissed and he moved to throw them down on the bed.  They felt weightless and a thrill ran through them as they landed on the soft material.  His body felt warm on top of theirs.
Breaking this kiss he gazed down at them, “You want this?”
“Yes.”
“Good.”
And he moved to tear the last of their clothing from their body.  They gasped feeling their full naked body become completely bare.  They felt his dick hard on their stomach.  Without breaking the kiss he took his underwear off and pressed into them.  Their eyes rolled in their head upon seeing him.  They spread their legs allowing him to do what he pleased with them.  Grabbing his dick he lined himself up and slowly pushed in.  They arched their back feeling him just about to breach them.
They grimaced feeling themselves stretch to accommodate him, but he was gentle and moved very, very slow.  His eyes glazed over with emotion as he stared at them.  He kissed them and caressed their body as he kept his slow pace.  He lifted his head and closed his eyes.  Light moans escaped his lips as he felt himself become lost within then.  Looking back down he felt over come and he began to move faster.  He felt they were ready, and hearing no pain from them, he kept it up.
They moaned feeling him fill them up.  He felt wonderful.  His hands on them were tender and the sounds he was making were intoxicating.  He was hitting every right spot and their hand began to drift down to touch themselves.  Snapping their head up they felt too good.  His pace quickened upon hearing their desperate moans and feeling their hand rub themselves they felt close.
“Travis…I’m going to cum.”
He moaned and kissed their neck, going even faster.  Their mouth parted and breath hitched.  Feeling him adjust, their eyes widened and mouth hung open.  They trembled and gasped and in the next moment, they came.  They arched their back and screamed as he drilled into them.  He raised back up and began to grunt feeling them orgasm around him.  His pace went even faster and his breaths turned into panting.  Flashing his eyes open he thrust in a few more times and came himself.  He groaned and shouted feeling his orgasm rocket through his body.
Coming down from his high, his breathing slowed and he felt exhausted.  He rolled off of them and they wrapped their arms around him.  The two were in a dreamy haze.  Neither could keep their eyes open.  No words passed between the two as they drifted off into slumber.  The light patter of rain tapped on the window.
Waking, they found themselves alone in bed.  Looking around they felt disheartened and angry.  Did he just fuck them and leave?  Sitting up they called out for him.  They got no response.  They felt a buzz on their phone.  Upon seeing it, a smile crept on their face.
‘Hey I had to go to the station to attend something.  Will be back at noon.’
They held the phone to their chest.  He didn’t just leave them like that.  It was just work.  Sighing they stood up.  They needed to go find a shower.  Hopefully there was one here.  It would be pretty awkward if they had to walk to the communal showers from here.  They didn’t want to explain themselves quite yet.  There was a door to the right of the bed and it lead out into a private living room.  A door to the right of that held a bathroom.  They smiled and hopped in.
Travis was already tired when he got back to the office.  He needed to find a way to get him more rest.  Rather, he needed to allow himself to get more rest and let his workers take over.  But is family beat it into him that if he wasn’t working he was worthless.  Sighing he entered up the main building and found his way to the office.  Opening the door he was confused.  They weren’t there.  Going back to the bedroom he saw that they also weren’t there but the door to the living room was open.  Entering in he heard the shower run.  A wave of understanding washed over him.  Entering in he heard them humming to themselves.
The hot water splashed over them and cleansed their body.  Feeling relaxed and clean they went to open the curtain.  Upon opening it, Travis was standing there.  They screamed not expecting that.
He moved to steady them, “I’m sorry!  I didn’t mean to startle you.”
They calmed their breathing, “Oh, it’s ok.  You have a tendency to walk very quietly.”
He gave a stern nod and looked away.  He felt their hand on his cheek turning him back to them.  His eyes flew open in surprise when they kissed him.  When they broke away he cleared his throat.
“I uh…wasn’t expecting you to stay around.”  He adverted his gaze.
“I honestly thought you didn’t for a moment there.”
“I apologize about that, work needed to be done.”
“I’m not upset!  I’m just glad you’re back.”  They smiled.
He still was not looking at them.  He grabbed the towel and said, “Here, you’re probably getting cold.”
They found it incredibly endearing.  Taking the towel and wrapping it around themselves, they moved forward and kissed him again.  His gaze tore away from the spot on the wall and he closed his eyes to savor them.  Their hands held his face and his tentatively went around their waist.
Breaking away they smiled at him, “Well…I um…I don’t regret last night.”
He closed his eyes and breathed a sigh of relief, “Good…me neither.”
Kissing him again briefly they said, “Well I’m going to go the office and catch up on work.”  They patted his chest, “Don’t wait up.”
He smiled holding on to their hand and letting it slip through his fingers as they left the bathroom.  There was a tender air between them as they worked alongside one another.  They couldn’t keep their eyes off him and he would smile or duck his head whenever he caught on.  He was adorable and they couldn’t stand it.  Gazing at him a horrible thought struck them.  They only had a couple weeks left here.  Looking at the calendar, it confirmed it to be true.  What were they going to do?  They swore they weren’t going to get close to anyone.  What will happen now?  Will this be it or will they try and pursue a relationship?
Well their lease was about up in their apartment.  And North Kill wasn’t terribly far from family.  They could easily do weekend trips.  They weren’t committed to anything either.  Would it be so bad to move up here and be with him?  Looking over at Travis they decided to voice their concerns.
“Hey Travis.”
“Hm?”
“We only have a couple of weeks left before the season is over.”
A wave of horror washed over his face.  As quickly as it came he hid it.  But, they saw it clear as day.
“I was thinking-”
He was up and nearly out of the room, “I have something I need to do.”
“Oh.” The door closed, “Ok.”
He avoided them for days.  They barely saw him and when they did it was in passing.  They didn’t bother staying at the office and went back to their cabin for the night.  It helped lower any suspicions anyway with their bunkmates.  What did they do wrong?  Was he afraid of something?  Did they scare him?  Or was he not interested in a relationship?  They had to find him.  They needed to settle these questions.
Texting and paging him over the next few hours garnished no results.  He was doing everything in his power to avoid them.  This was breaking their heart.  Tears were coming to them.  They couldn’t believe he’d just ghost them like this.  They began to wonder around camp frantic.  They had to find him.  They went to the office.  He wasn’t there or in the living room.  They decided to call the precinct.  They told them that he hadn’t come in today.  He had to be here and they had to find him.  Running out towards the lake, a commotion caught them.
Someone was drowning.  Looking around, the other counselors were gathered at the shore.  They saw a bunkmate and asked where the lifeguards went.  No one knew.  Looking back at the frantic kid they decided to take action.  Taking off their shirt they dove in and swam behind the child.  Getting behind, they wrapped their arms around their torso and avoided the flailing limbs.  They began to drag them back to shore.  A they were getting into shallower water, the kid broke free and was able to run the rest of the way back to land.  They smiled and ducked under to swim after them.  But, their foot was caught.
Looking back they could hardly see what it was.  It looked like an old chain.  They tried to wriggle free but nothing was working.  Pulling on their leg wasn’t helping either.  They were just under the surface, just out of reach of life sustaining air.  They reached their hand up to wave for help.  They felt their lungs burn and saw no movement coming towards them.  They were about to drown and they couldn’t believe it.  Their frantic movements were beginning to still and their eyesight began to dim.  Then a shadow moved over them and strong hands grabbed them and hoisted them above the water.  They began wrenching and gulping as much air as they could between heaves.
“Where the hell are those damn lifeguards!”  They heard the voice say.  “I’m going to fire the hell out of them.”
It was Travis.  They tried to speak but nothing was coming out coherently.
“Travis, I need…please…talk…”
He shushed them and brought them to his chest and carried them to shore.  He held them to him and barked orders for everyone to get back to what they were doing.  He walked on past the shocked stares as he brought them back up to the office.
“Travis…please.”  They were gripping the collar on his uniform.
He ignored them as he brought them into the main building and back towards the living room.  He laid them down on the couch and knelt by them.
“Travis!”  Tears began to stream down their face.
They saw tears form in his eyes as well.
“Please…I want to stay!  I want you.” They struggled to say.
“Sh, you shouldn’t strain yourself.” They went into a fit of coughing.  He went to stand but a hand flew out to hold him there.
“Please…don’t leave me.”
He stared at them with a tense look.  It was full of sorrow and pain.
“Travis I want to stay with you.  I want a relationship with you.  But I feel as if you don’t want that…that you just wanted a one time thing.”
He knelt back down, “No!  I never wanted that.”
“Well you sure made it seem like it.”  They began to cry, “You’re breaking me apart with not talking to me and avoiding me with every chance you get.”
“I…I was afraid.  Since everyone is leaving in a week I couldn’t bare to get any closer.  I couldn’t stand the thought of saying goodbye.”
“But I want to move up here and try it out with you.”
“You do?”
They nodded, “Yes!  If you only gave me like, a few minutes to explain that, you’d know it by now.”
Tears fell from his eyes and a smile twisted on his face, “I don’t know why I thought you didn’t want me.  That you just wanted a fling.”
“I don’t want a fling.”
“I know that now…I just couldn’t face what I feared.  Going back to the loneliness, the isolation…I couldn’t…”
Their hand slid on his face, “I won’t leave you alone.”
He kissed their palm, “Can you promise me?”
They nodded, “I promise you I will not leave you alone.  I want to be with you and be by your side.”
“Good.”
His eyes were closed as he buried his face in their hand.  They gazed at him.  They missed him terribly.
“God I really missed looking at you and touching you.”
He smiled and gave a chuckle, “Me too…I’m sorry I caused all this.”
“It’s passed now, no need to remember it.”
They kissed.  They wrapped their arms around him and he held them ever so gently.
As the season wrapped up, everyone was preparing to close up for the year.  Their bunkmates were worried for them when they went back to the cabin.  They explained Travis helped resuscitate them and kept them safe until they were well enough.  Well most of it was true at least.  Cleaning the mess hall and storing the mattresses, it was tons of work just to get this place packed down.  The buses came and took the kids away back home.  Some counselors lingered as they didn’t want to say goodbye.  They were sad to part with their bunkmates but they didn’t allow themselves to grow attached so it didn’t hurt all that bad.
Once everyone was gone, they smiled turning back to the office.  It was just them two.  Walking on up they met him half way.
“Everything is secure sir.”
He smiled, “Good.”  He grabbed them by the waist and pulled them in, causing them to squeal, “Where will you stay tonight?”
“Oh well…I can stay anywhere you want me to.  I’ll have to find a place eventually and move my stuff in a month.  Any recommendations?”
“Yes how about my house?”
They were shocked, “Your place?”
He cleared his throat, “I-If you want to.  I could think of no better and safer place to live at.  I know it’s early on in the relationship but we can…I was hoping we…”
They smiled, “I’d love that.”
He gazed at them and tossed them, “Good.  I really am eager to be sharing part of my life with you.”
“I am too.”
They walked on and cleaned up whatever was left in the office.  They smiled happy to themselves.  They didn’t expect to land a serious relationship at Hackett’s Quarry, much less with their boss; but they were thrilled to have it.  Travis’ heart was brimming with joy.  He feared to go back to the quiet halls of his house.  He didn’t want to wrestle with the ghosts that haunted his every dream.  He needed someone there for him to take care of.  He desperately wanted happiness.  He desperately wanted love.  And hopefully, over time, they will love him.  He knew he would fall easily for them.  The old fool was such a romantic.  Looking over at them though, he had a sneaking suspicion that they weren’t going anywhere.  He felt that this is where his family was going to start.   A new life ahead of him where loneliness and resentment weren’t apart of it.

travis and jay's reaction to mc being: "yOuRe BeInG cHiLdIsH" -- eleanor shellstrop style.
[also are you feeling better, then?]
He gives you a small grimace, “And you’re being loud.”
Biting back a grin, you tell him, “Me?”
Travis rolls his eyes—snorts quiety, body shaking a little—and he elbows your side.
“What? Are you bored? Do you want attention?”
“Are you offering?”
“Wipe that smirk off your face— And then I might.”

“Huh,” from the look on J’s face—a little blank, almost thoughtful—it’s obvious that they’re not listening.
You pout, “Hey, Jay~”
Anything else you were about to say is cut off— J’s slightly cold hand squeezes your cheeks together, it makes you look like a fish.
“Cute,” they say with a little shrug.
