Update 1.0 `Generation 1`: The Copy/Paste Addison

The first update in the world brought the new model of addison to Cyber World, sometimes referred to as the Additon, which took the original featherfluffed design of the Addon and became more colorful and more shaped with mannequin features and arms at birth. While Gen0 was abstract with 3 stages, Gen1 has only 2 in the beginning, which quickly gets out of hand once the updates begin. The two stages, sockdoll stage and adult stage, are fairly simple.

The sockdoll stage

As children, they are smol, they're fuzzy, and their limbs are boneless, developing porcelain appendages beneath. Appendage joints are sheathed in fabric at the beginning, but as they grow bigger they outgrow the top fabric layer. They do not shed it like snakes but instead rip and stretch until their next stage, causing growing pains and "lightning streaks" where the porcelain shows beneath.

This stage functions as both the toddler and bipedal stage of the generation before but cutting the middleman. Thankfully with the addition of small pigments, there is more variety in the addisons. That being said, they are still fairly uniform, hence the copy/paste tag to their design.

The adult stage

This is their recognizable stage, becoming almost fully mannequin. Their fabric layer is still there, but the transition solidifies their porcelain skeleton, providing chisled features and sturdy appendages to work with now. Speaking of sturdy, they are all pretty short still even with the gradual growth they can go through.

They serve the same function in life as Gen0, but they are slightly more prepared, having a more versatile design and comparatively welcoming appearance. They do receive their catalog upon reaching adult stage, but they also get another menu: Import. The import menu allows them to bring a Lightner product to their world. Sadly, it is only a *Lightner recreation* of a product, so the item purpose can get lost in translation. This new menu allows for cultural diffusion and the possibility of inclusion and appeal to the Lightner visitors!

So yeah, next up is the litany of updates and how that ruins everything-

The makeshift photoshoot I did to promo the cursed edition of Mouse turned out better than expected for my lack of photography skills and backdrops/lighting. The important thing was that the book stood out and had that homey obviously self-published vibe to it.

In the shoot I accidentally revealed to you all my ever growing collection of self-made Mouses. Mouse is a purposefully generic looking Halloween cat so her likeness is pretty easy to translate onto plushies and such, but I’ve also been working with her (and her story) since 2015 so I’ve made a lot in the way of Mouse-likeness. Starting with SockMouse

She’s the rattiest effigy of the bunch made out of my old Halloween/black socks and felt. My sewing leaves a lot to be desired so she’s quite the fragile sockdoll. Her joints are held on souly through buttons.

This is CursedMouse, which I made out of a prexisting DIY cat doll.

I like my Mouse’s being some form of obvious plushie rather than just a stuffed animal cat so her button eyes and purple lashes really stand out. Her smile makes me smile and haunts me in my dreams.

Then there’s my own successful Mouseification of SunTimeMouse, a sun-dancing dohickey I bought at work.

She does dance when in sunlight but it otherwise still most of the time, which is why it’s so weird that I can’t seem to get a non-shakey picture of her.

This little dolls name is Cauliflower; this is an ode to my grey sock doll friend. She was amazing and will never be forgotten. She now lives on as a skilled fencer. Cauliflower was with me from travels in Wyoming all the way to Montana. I have to thank my mother for the friendship and joy brought from an imagined persona grown into the tangible reality of a sock doll.
