season change is upon us, is there any outfit you're excited to bring back into rotation? colors you are partial to? how about accessories/shoes? If you don't live in a place with seasons (or a place with negligible seasonal change/just feel like answering smth else), what is your favorite outfit lately?
The weather hasn't transitioned to fall here yet, but the stores are rolling out Halloween stuff and pumpkin spice treats already 🎃
My wardrobe hasn't really rotated much in the last few years, since I've been stuck at home for 4 years now, with the pandemic hitting about 1.5 years into that. I don't spend a lot of time outside anymore and tend to dress according to indoor conditions. Also, I've never been one to change the colours of my clothes according to the seasons, I just wear whatever colours I feel like at that moment.
However, I did recently go to some outdoor drag shows and was able to dress for hot weather! I have a hard time finding shorts I like, so I usually wear short skirts or short dresses to stay cool. Due to EDS, I have venous insufficiency, where the veins in my legs struggle to pump blood back to my heart, which means I need to wear compression socks in the heat, but I'm still on the search for some that don't look awkward on their own (they're sheer so they don't quite look like socks, but they're knee-high so they don't look like stockings, either), so I always cover them with either knee-high socks or full-length leggings. I got new glasses a few months ago and I always get two pairs at a time, one pair that's colourful and one that matches all my outfits.
When I went to see Ilona Verley, I wore my yellow Pikachu shirt and a skirt from Rancid Yogurt that I can't find the product photo for, but it has the same print as these leggings:
Tumblr media
For accessories, I brought my tiny pink backpack, I wore a necklace that's silver with white gems on a star-shaped pendant, I had grey socks with bows on the outer sides, I had a light yellow floral-printed bow in my hair, and my mask was a pastel rainbow gradient. My shoes were what I usually wear, black Converse high-tops with white rubber and white stitching, since I like how they look, it's easy to find another pair whenever old ones need to be replaced, and the high tops are very supportive for hypermobile ankles. The makeup I wore was pink eyeshadow, pink lipstick, and pink glitter. I wore my new glasses that are yellow squiggles throughout clear plastic.
When I saw Saltina Shaker, I had 4 different plaids in my outfit in the form of a skirt that was black and white plaid, a hair bow that was a different black and white plaid, a mask that was red and black plaid, and a flannel shirt that was another type of red and black plaid. Under the flannel shirt, I was wearing the shirt I got at a Green Day concert that's black and white with a design of an American flag where the stripes are made of barbed wire. I'm not completely sure what accessories I had for this one, but I know I had socks that looked like skeleton legs, and I think I may have been wearing my ring that's silver with a grey gem and/or the black and red Green Day bracelet that I'd bought matching ones of for myself and my pen pal from grade 11 French class. I had the same pink backpack as when I saw Ilona, but I didn't have a bag that was fun and also matched this outfit, so I just went with the backpack. My makeup was red eyeshadow, red lipstick, and gold glitter. I wore my other new glasses that are transparent grey with a beveled look; I call them my crystal glasses because they look kinda like gems.
My physical health is finally getting better, so hopefully I can go outside and wear fun outfits more often again :)

'Demon': Prologue ♡ BakugouXFem!Reader (Book 1)
Alright I'm doing it.
I'm doing the thing.
It literally keeps me awake at night I gotta write thisss *cough* okay
Tumblr media
Originally I was only going to post this unto Wattpad, but getting traction on their website is a little more difficult than good ole' Tumblr, so I'll be posting it on both. Feel free to visit my Wattpad here: LINK if you want to support my writing on that end. (I would so appreciate it)
This post is going to run pretty long, as it will host both the prologue of the story and my author's notes. Just a heads up.
Summery:
A slow-burn action/romance where you begin in the bowels of a Villain base and rise up to join U.A.'s top Hero Class. This life was your choice. In the event of learning then losing the love of a friend, you make a decision that changes your reality at the core--to become an imposter among villains and bring them down from the inside out. The organization that ruined your premature perfect life was known as H.H., after their leader Head-Honcho. His crime of choice: intelligence. Training and conducting espionage agents and assassins across Japan as a means to further the dark underground network. Your training began at thirteen, after managing to impress the multi-faced villain with your stealth and your conviction. Rumors would soon spread through the dark alleys of Naruhata City of a masked assassin known as Demon, whose bare face could steal the souls of her targets. Everything appears to be going to plan; but the Hero Agencies you've been slipping information to are calling for an end to your superior sooner than you had anticipated. Your time as 'Demon' is limited. What will happen when your world comes crashing down? Where will you go, when everything you had known you helped to destroy?
AUTHOR'S NOTES
This is a slow burn fan-fic; and I am not italicizing those words without reason. This is going to be an agonizingly slow action-packed adventure-romance. This is a self-insert story, just like my three-part series 'Some Combat Training' (link) where you as the protagonist will not be described outside of being female, general physique, and a generalization of your uniform(s). Skin, hair, eyes, etc. will not be described at all--besides ambiguous adjectives. That said, I am taking liberties with physique and stature due to the nature of the story. You're abilities rely on stealth as well as close and fast combat, therefore you are described as 'small', 'lithe', 'athletic', and all of those other fancy little ninja woman words. Your personality has been shaped by the events of your life and the people within it; but if I were to describe it I would choose words like: Intelligent, determined, self-sacrificing, quiet, humble, and studious. The story will follow along with the anime for the most part starting at around the time of the USJ event, though at some point the story will branch off and become more my original concoction. (Such as, fast-forwarding the time-line to when the characters are older.) Some information about you as the protagonist will not be written here, as I plan for those to be revelations within the story. There will be angst, blood and gore, adult-humor, trauma, death, bad language and warnings will be listed with each chapter as needed. Feel free to comment on those chapters as soon as you see something that isn't mentioned that might make someone (if not yourself) feel uncomfortable. I will not be offended. This story is meant to get a little dark. Please comment if you can about your opinions! I have never posted an on-going fic before, and anything you have to say I would appreciate! <3 Now, please enjoy this short prologue~ Chapter 1 is being reviewed and edited, to be release very soon! 👹🖤⛓🔪💣 ...four...five...six.. You counted the footsteps behind your left ear, round the corner of the dim abandoned subway. You'd been stationary; still so long that your digits had all but numbed. Turn... one...two...three... The footsteps were distancing from the hall your attention had been set upon. A T-section, where the entity had gone down and away from your destination. You had to cross that 'T' to get to the junction--where you needed to leave a note completely undetected. The slightest mis-step would lead to suspicion. Suspicion would lead to investigation. Investigation lead to the five percent chance they could find that note--and no percentage was too small. It all hinged on absolute perfection. Nine...ten...eleven... This was their fifth round. A patrol. You had to make sure their movement were predictable before this would work--despite having successfully delivered the note fourty-two times and counting--you did not have the luxury of assumption. Only if their stride was even, only if you absolutely knew they were moving at a certain pattern, could you depend on the following information: It took fifteen steps before they would reach the broken light on their route. The haze of the dust and pollutants reflected in the working lights prior to that was your cover. Cross the 'T', leave the note, and cross it again. Out of sight and out of earshot, mission successful. Fourteen... f-- You turn, and it takes three steps to arrive at the drop to the tracks. You bunch and leap, and even the quietest friction of fabric from your uniform creases your brow. You land, just outside of the light's reach on the thin concrete slab beyond. Your eyes track the metals, the jutting wall tiles; that with which the barest touch could emit a sound--and you maneuver around them. Under, creeping low--and over, leaping to land on the balls of your feet and checking your balance before moving forward. Careful to not cast a shadow into the hall. Paced, so as not to move too quickly nor too slowly. Counting, because every second was controlled and calculated. You reach the juncture, and once again
edging the light you propel yourself to land back on the main thoroughfare. The next obstacle--removing the loose brick. Behind a metal bench centered between two closed-in stair cases, where the tile meets what had once been a decorative brick mosaic; eight bricks right and eighteen bricks up, was your note's destination. Just above your head, where you had to bend at an awkward angle to reach. Not practical, less detectable. You're wearing tight fabric gloves with grips on the pads, but thin enough you can feel the texture of the brick as you gently lace your fingers at each of the corners. Lifting, centering, and pulling the brick from its slot. Holding it just right, you can avoid the loud scrapes and grinds--but you have to hold it perfectly centered. Success. In goes the note. As does the brick, back into the wall. But you're only half-way done. Leap. Quiet, maneuver, avoid, measure. Silent. Leap. Hide. You're back is once again at the wall, the footsteps of the lackey you'd been avoiding closing in proximity to the Hall you'd just left. Four... five... six... Your eyes focus on the wall opposite of you as you ground yourself. The next few seconds determined a new reality. Either they followed their pattern, or they didn't. You had to be flexible. No assumptions. If they move towards the junction, you have to follow. If they move towards you, you'd calculate on your feet. Seven... eight... nine.. Turn. ...one...two...three.. You don't relax. Even after you count their steps to fifteen, even as you slip away back through the hall, even as you exit the unattended vent and breathe in fresh air--you don't relax until you're sitting on the floor in your room, calming down, your mask in your hands. After checking to make sure your door had not been opened, and no one had looked for you. No tracks in the dust. Only then do you allow yourself to ruminate on the contents of the note you had written, because you could still see every letter of it in your mind. ------ 55-1, Minami Senju 5-chome, Musutafu Target: Fukui Mitsuo Floor 8 3 AM. 7. Accompanied. Head. ------ For the briefest moment, you feel your hands shake. They always did on these nights. Realistically, you'd left no openings. Tested and re-tested every method. Calculated every movement. Left nothing to chance. But the 'what-if's' still linger, and you let them. The fear is good. It keeps you on your toes, your mind on edge, your tongue to the roof of your mouth. If he found out, you wouldn't know it until it was over. So you pretended he already did. Below you, underground in his base, plotting how to get at you when you were most vulnerable. Tear you to pieces, throw you in a pit or in a cage. No--too risky, he'd just kill you. A dead-end is better than a possibility. You'd learned that from him. You swallow, head turning so the amber morning sky is in your peripheral. All things considered, you would still unfortunately need sleep. You cherished the brief moments of sunlight and let your mind swim in the memories of your childhood spent in the daytime; before retiring to the broken and borrowed mattress. Seven days. You would check the location of your note in two. If there is another note in response, you would create a reactionary plan. The pattern continues. Until he finds out. ...Until he finds out.

Please do more of the writing head canons. It’s really interesting to see other people’s ideas on the topic, so if you can be bothered, I would highly appreciate more, thanks bye <3
Y’all don’t know how happy I am to talk about these headcanons, they are my babies and I love them so much :’) thanks for asking g <3
Handwriting Headcanons
Same dynamic as before, try to guess whose handwriting it is before reading and tell me how many you got right! <3
Tumblr media
You can find the first post here (no need to check it tho)
Quick disclaimer: halfway through making my initial notes, I remembered I had one (1) single lesson of graphology in my applied linguistics class, but that was a year ago and some information might be off. I just thought it was neat to include.
Another quick disclaimer: I don’t know much about Hylian, but I like to think it has a similar stroke system to Japanese, so the pressure and accuracy of your strokes play a major role in your handwriting (among other things, ofc.) so there are some parts where I focus more on that
(First Row, from left to right)
Sky
Our first boy is mother hen! Believe it or not, he has the prettiest handwriting out of all of them! Sky: probably has nice, even elegant handwriting because Sun forced him to practice when they were little. In the end, that paid off because his handwriting is the prettiest one. There’s no pressure, but he is confident in what he writes that his lines aren’t thin. Mistakes? what is that? this boy has impeccable grammar and spelling. No mechanic errors to be found in his letters! I’d like to think that many of Hyrule’s classic/staple poems were originally written by the firt king aka sky child. Like, imagine, after a retiring from being a Person of Power (as the first ruler), Sky finds comfort in the arts: revisits his old woodcarvings and starts writing poetry about the world he still doesn’t fully understand. wowie. tldr: sky writes poetry and you can pry it from my cold dead hands.
This is what one of his letters would look like:
Tumblr media
Next one is the one and only, our Hero of Time
2. Time
I’ll die on the “Time didn’t know how to read and write” hill. His handwriting is simple, not pretty but not messy. It has some grammar and spelling mistakes here and there. Can become unreadable if writing in a hurry, he sorts of forgets spaces between words are a thing/letters have different sizes and lowercase letters end up the same size as capital letters. I’m not saying he sometimes forgets to write articles: he just doesn’t want to. Honestly, he just has this dad-neat handwriting. He is a gentle dad and writes like a dad, if he puts too much pressure onto the paper, his handwriting become too sharp/angle-ish and ends up looking ugly. And as much as he would like to not care about it, in the end he does (:
Malon taught him how to write and it was quite the experience. At first he didn’t want to because he was ‘too old’ to learn and it was torture at first, but now look at him devouring his cowboy novels.
A chunk of his handwriting:
Tumblr media
*sniff* such a dad quote.
3. my mansss, your  4x1 deal at Target: Four
Look, my boy is patient! He could do some nice and fancy lettering if he wanted to. He was taught that handwriting and spelling said a whole lot about him as a person, you know, like a first impression kinda thing; so he always proof reads more than twice before sending a letter. Super rare grammar mistakes.
The faster he writes, the more slant his writing becomes. Under stress/ when not sure how to write things down, run-on sentences are everywhere and his handwriting is inconsistent in general (I don’t headcanon each part of him having completely different handwriting because handwriting becomes muscle memory over time. It’s just slightly different variations of the same, like idk  Vio’s handwriting is neater than Green’s and Red writes hearts instead of any dot/circle and no, I do not take constructive criticism on that, jk i do.) Adding on to each of the colours’ handwriting, I’d think Red and Green write with words slanted to the right( inclined), Vio is a mix of the opposite, so reclined and straight, and my mans blue a true neutral writes straight (kinda like Time’s).
The logic behind this is that inclined writing supposedly means honesty and need for giving (and getting) affection; reclined means, as you can probably imagine,  defensiveness and repression of true feelings, but also shows great concentration; straight handwriting means self-control, observation and reflection as well as distrust and indifference. But as complete being (tm), Four just writes as in the image example which is not too straight and not too inclined, and I believe that’s a good middle for him
HOWEVER, if I’m feeling in the mood for crack, I totally accept this boy to have the ugliest, chicken scratches-looking handwriting! :’D It’s just funny to think that someone like him, who has to be precise and careful in his work, can't write neatly to save his life.
One of his letters would look like this:
Tumblr media
Also I just LOVE how his hero titles look in this font ksksks
Tumblr media
and that’s
(Middle row, from left to right)
4.- Mister Bunny Boy - Legend
His uncle taught him how to write. I’d call his handwriting pretty and neat at a first glance, but he presses too hard on the paper, most of the time staining the back or the following page. Sometimes will retrace some words if he doesn’t like how it looks (which only makes it messier). According to my notes, a thick or strong handwriting represents determination/commitment.
As I also headcanon him to know many languages, mechanical errors are more present than grammar ones; that is, weird capitalisation of words. Punctuation is somewhere in between; uses too many commas when he should just cut the sentence. he mixes punctuation from two languages or more in writing when too distracted (or too focused, because, well, pressure.); when he writes for himself, he has almost no problem following said language’s punctuation rules. Also, this is just polyglot culture, and I’m projecting a bit, but when he forgets a word in the language he’s writing, he just replaces it with its equivalent in another language because we don’t care about fluency, but rather functionality. in this household (more on that in my language hc, ksksks).
An example of his writing:
Tumblr media
so powerful
4.-  Mr. Wolfman, howl me a song - Twilight
I don’t have much for him because 1) I don’t think he writes a lot and 2) he is a hands-on/visual learner, I’ll die by that. He only learnt how to write because Ulli insisted it was important and he was not about to disrespect his momma; he IS That Guy, but doesn’t really write enough to have neat handwriting.
Many people seem to overlook the fact that his house is filled with books and write him as completely illiterate (which if not explored properly, ends up feeling a bit disrespectful and full of prejudice, but go off I guess; and that’s on my core Headcanons for Twi); however, he sticks to simple sentences. Knowing how to read and understanding a text is different from knowing how to write them. Like, when we would see a semicolon and understand its position in the text, but didn’t understand the nature of it. Is this clear? idk i’m sorry. So yeah, boy reads a lot, writes very little.
As for his Actual Handwriting, as opposed to Legend, his handwriting is thiccc but not because he presses into the paper; he is just that messy, he has no sense of ink-flow-control, he does what he can with what he has. To the untrained eye, his handwriting illegible letters like v, n, u are very similar; when he makes notes for himself he does it in the form of doodles or small ‘icons’. But! He reads a lot, so he rarely makes spelling mistakes (: he is your go-to guy when you don’t know how to write a word.
An example of his writing:
Tumblr media
He keeps a journal, sue me.
3. My first born- Warrior
Okay, first off... I accept this is completely biased. I saw the idea and said “That’s True”. If you haven’t, please read Effective Communication; or The Lack of Thereof by htruona, a fic where the boys reflect on the language barriers between them. It’s incredibly funny and probably what made me start making these silly notes. So, if you’ve read that fic, you know where I’m going.
My man, Warrior, can’t fucking write. I mean, he physically can, but it’s very bad. Here’s the reason for it, tho, and it’s not his fault: Technically, he knew how to write alright but he joined the military and whatever note he had to write had to be concise or in the worst case coded. He mixes capital and lowercase letters. If we consider that he joined the military at around 15, his handwriting and grammar had yet to continue developing. Just think about how after summer break, your handwriting was always slightly worse than before because you didn’t write for an entire month. Now think what 2 years can do to that. Hmm, not cool, dude. He makes quick notes, when writing he’s all gotta go fast. he is the lighting mcqueen of writing; good for emergency messages, not ideal for love letters. His punctuation also suffered a lot, he only know full stops and commas and hardly uses them. A sentence for him is either one word or fifty without a single comma, no inbetween.
His hero title and an example of his writing.
Tumblr media
(Bottom row, or what I like to call “fuck cursive” row)
7.- Magic man - Hyrule
I’m basic and I do agree with the popular headcanon of he not knowing how to write because well, y’all know his Hyrule. He only knows how to write his name because that’s important, same with numbers. I don’t see why would he write/read except checking the roadsigns. (he can even use this as an excuse for getting lost frequently; he thought it said something different.) But I do think that because his habitual reading consists of roadsigns, his ‘punctuation’ is weird af and places full stops/points/periods at the same level of his words and his commas/question/exclamation marks below them. Yk, creative license. Sadly, I don’t have much about my magic hands man so here’s what his writing would look like if he actually wrote a paragraph:
Tumblr media
Man, I love Hyrule.
8.- Man, I don’t understand this boy -  Wild
Cursive? ain’t nobody have the time for that. He woke up and had to save the world in his underwear while not knowing how to read nor write.  He learnt during his journey and was taught by multiple people from different regions, that explains his inconsistent spelling of things and names for them. So Wild knows language variations for many items and uses them interchangeably (even if they aren’t exactly the same). Another headcanon related to writing/language skills that I’ve been thinking about is that if the shrine was able to cause amnesia, I’m sure there were other areas in the brain affected which leads us to language disorders such as agraphia and aphasia. But that’s a story for another day ksksksk
An example of his writing (after relearning)
Tumblr media
9.- The best of sons - Wind
I don’t have much for him and that makes me sad. Look, he’s a kid, doing kid things like stabbing dudes on the head. This boy was taught cursive by his grandma, but could never do it and no one needs it anyway. His handwriting is good enough for his pirate life, Tetra is the one to handle Official stuff, he just gotta sign. Spelling and grammar mistakes abound. He is still relatively young and can correct his handwriting if he desires. But same as Wild, with how many times he’s been thrown out and hit his head, I’m starting to consider some language disorder for him as well.
An example of his writing:
Tumblr media
aaand that’s it.
Thanks, y’all for showing interest in this silly thing uwu it was fun to finally talk about this. If you ever want to discuss ideas/headcanons(especially if they are related to language and culture), I’m your person (: I’m always happy to hear new headcanons. Feel free to add anything to this post either in a reply or in a reblog, I’d love to hear from y’all <3<3

Draco Malfoy and the Hopeless Situation
Tumblr media
Warnings: Language, Angst
(Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, Part 5, Part 6, Part 7) Aesthetic
Something is terribly wrong this year.
You're not sure how to describe it, but it's as if the very air is different, like it's heavy and thick, weighing on everyone. Your parents almost didn't want you returning to Hogwarts this year with the rumors, but you scoffed at them and came back anyway.
Now you kind of wish you hadn't.
You'd noticed your mother hasn't been speaking with Narcissa Malfoy, you've heard her whispering to your father that she doesn't dare get involved. You're not exactly sure what that means, they refuse to ever tell you anything, or just wave you off when you ask.
According to Harry, however, You-Know-Who is back, but he's also been claiming that for years. You've always been skeptical, someone just doesn't come back from the dead, but after the end of last year, with his godfather dying and everyone suddenly saying they saw the Dark Lord --- well, you're just uncertain now.
It's kind of frightening, actually. You're worried for your parents, you know that Voldemort actually targeted the pure blood families to recruit them into his Death Eaters, Lucius Malfoy being one of them; you're not sure how your parents managed to wiggle out of it, but you're glad they didn't get involved.
You wonder how Draco is fairing, what's going on at Malfoy manor. Is it really true that his family is part of the Death Eaters that are supporting the Dark Lord's return? Is that why he was so weird last year, joining that horrid toad-like woman, stating that he was trying to keep you safe, that you didn't know everything that was happening?
Maybe you didn't.
You feel almost foolish now, like someone has lifted a veil from in front of your eyes and you suddenly realize that you've been ignoring obvious signs. Now the papers are even talking about the random attacks on muggle born wizards, the gatherings, and it's very concerning.
Fred and George don't seem bothered, their joke shop is flourishing, just like Fred said it would. You saw him many times over the summer, you actually really like his shop, but it's not the same between either one of you now. You thought maybe it could be once you got out of school, but... it's not. He's basically independent, he and his brother, and he's loving it.
You just... wish things didn't have to end the way they did last year.
You're both writing letters to each other, more so now than before actually, especially over the summer. Your owl has been constantly going back and forth much to your mother's consternation, sometimes she needs to use the owl sometimes and you shouldn't be so greedy, apparently.
It's not like it matters, most of her friends are high society gossip queens, it's not like she has anything actually important to talk about. Your father has been gone a lot though, but you don't really think he's been at the Ministry like he claims; he's up to something, him and your mother both, but you're not sure what.
No one will talk to you.
It's so frustrating!
Even if they avoid telling you about it, you hear about it at school. The dark vibe is intense, and Dumbledore has been so absent this year, although he's still miraculously the headmaster despite that circus last semester. You're not sure how he managed that, but you noticed that he isn't looking like he feels that well, either.
Neither is Draco.
He's not acting his usual haughty self, he's very pale, and you've noticed the black rings beneath his eyes. He has his underlings following him around of course, and he still has his boastful appearance and looks down his nose at others, but it just... well, it seems like it's a facade, it's not genuine like before.
You're actually worried about him too.
You know the rumors, and if He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named is really back, the Malfoys are right in the middle of it. Draco and his mother at least, since his father is currently in Azkaban for breaking into the Ministry --- on the Dark Lord's behalf.
Which means he must be back, doesn't it? You keep trying to find excuses, ways to pretend that it's not true, because why should it be? That was something that happened when you were just a baby, it doesn't even seem real to you, it's just history, right?
Well, apparently not, because now it's happening again.
You frown down at your school books where you sit in the library at one of the tables, tapping the tip of your feathered quill nervously against your paper. You've been staring at this page for a few minutes, but you're not really reading anything.
You're listening.
There's a few Slytherins sitting a couple seats down, whispering as they lean over the table towards each other. Pansy is one of them, she's always in the middle of chaos, but she's also the perfect source of gossip. She looks pleased as she talks about the Malfoy's, still praising them for being loyal to their blood even in the darkest of circumstances. She comments on how hard it must be for Draco with his father being gone, his mother stuck at the manor with all her "guests."
By guests does she mean Death Eaters? Is Malfoy manor like their home base?
She should really watch what she's saying when so many people are around.
You hear a slight huff of vague laughter, and you look up, seeing Draco walking through the library, white blonde hair messed, a smile on his face that's not genuine and actually looks more like a grimace. Crabbe and Goyle are flanking him as they move with purpose, and you frown, watching them.
Is he okay?
His eyes flick over as he passes your table, his gray eyes catching yours for just the briefest of moments before away, his attention returning to his task. You watch as he disappears into the rows of books in the library, almost feeling disappointed. He's not spoken to you once this year, not tried to pick on you, be smooth with you, absolutely nothing!
It's not characteristic of him at all.
Not that you mind, of course, he's a jerk, and he's rude, and snobbish. You want him to be a better person but you're not sure if he actually is, and the only reason he's ever nice to you is because of your family name, your House; if you'd been anyone else, you would be treated like you were below him, especially since you don't think muggles are complete dirt.
Still, you've spent time with Draco outside of school, you know he can be decent, it's why you like him. You just know he can be better, but you're not going to pretend that you can make him be better or make him change, it's his choice to be who he is and to act the way he does.
It's just disappointing because he has a good heart.
Or maybe that's just what you want to believe.
He saved you last year, made sure you weren't in trouble when it came to the D.A. getting caught; he actually made sure you didn't make it to that last meeting, and you'd said some horrible things to him because of it. You sort of regret being so mean, but, well, he had no business interfering! You should have been there, you are one of them!
Maybe you should have believed Harry more, instead of being so skeptical. You're grateful for all the defensive spells you learned thanks to him, at least if everything does go bad you'll be able to defend yourself --- against Death Eaters, of all things.
People you know, which is what makes it worse.
You sigh, and finally close the book you've been pretending to read with a final thunk. You can't concentrate, and you're tired of trying too. There's too much on your mind, this year is getting to you and you're barely into it!
Stupid Draco and his ignoring you, you're not sure why you find it so annoying. It's so unlike him, he always at least acknowledges you! Sure, you don't care, not really, it's just... worrisome. He's changed so much these few months, it's like he's not even himself.
When you first saw him this year, he was still pale, wearing his traditional dark green robes that complimented his color and white-blond hair. Now he has sch terrible dark shadows beneath his eyes, and looks almost gray sometimes, as if he's exhausted and becoming ill.
You've noticed Snape watching him pretty closely as well, but you know about his reputation. Snape was a Death Eater, loyal to He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named, and how he became a teacher for Dumbledore is beyond you; why Dumbledore let him become a teacher is a mystery! The man obviously hates children, and this year since he's been teaching Defense Against the Dark Arts, it's been... interesting.
Everyone always says that position is cursed, you've had a new one every single year that you've been at Hogwarts... well, since Harry Potter has been at Hogwarts. You can't say Snape has been a terrible teacher, for as long as you've known him he's wanted that class. He takes it very seriously, more so than anyone else --- especially that horrid woman Umbridge, who you hope is somewhere as awful as she is.
At least Snape treats the class for what it is; dangerous.
He wants to make sure that all of the students have a firm understanding of the suffering the Dark Arts can bring, so far as to even make the lights dimmer and hang up some very morbid photos. His teachings, as much as no one would dare admit, were very similar to Harry's, in your unasked opinion. Snape wants everyone to not simply just memorize the spells, but how to use them and what situations call for them.
Even the theories he assigns for homework at least interesting. Lupin was the only other teacher who you found to be so practical, except he was much friendlier and personable, whereas Snape is sort of loomy and intimidating.
"What is it, (Y/N)? You're looking moodier than usual," Someone comments snidely, and you cut your eyes at Pansy Parkinson where she and Millicient sit; you're not fond of Millicent, at all, and you don't pretend you are either. She was part of Umbridge's Inquisitorial squad last year, and would use her... you want to say larger, more broad build to intimidate other students and anyone smaller than her. Right now her black hair is loose around her jutting jaw, and it's not flattering in the least.
"What do you want, Pansy?" You frown at her, your chin propped on your hand. "Don't you have something to gossip about?"
"No." Pansy shifts, and you scowl at her as she puts herself right across from you, looking like the cat who ate the canary. Your mind unfortunately flicks to the night of the Yule Ball, when she went with Draco dressed in such pink frills, so gaudy. Her style hasn't changed much since than either, although you've noticed her and Draco are together, just the two of them more often.
You're not bothered by it or anything, after all these years it's no surprise to see them together. She's just a horrid girl, who likes to torment others and has a mean streak --- but she's from a pureblood family, so it's no surprise.
You gaze at her with a bored expression, not even going to entertain her. Is she trying to snap at you, get you riled up for some reason?
You're fairly certain you hate this girl, although you know it's a strong term. You know her and Draco are cosier than usual this year, you heard about their little snuggle on the train ride to Hogwarts. His head in her lap, her smirk as she caressed his hair --- it does make your blood boil just a little at the thought.
You know his hair is soft, you've run your fingers through it numerous times. You wonder if he's kissed her yet, like he has you --- he certainly knows how to kiss very well, so maybe she's who he's practiced with.
Oh now that's a sickening thought.
You don't like that at all.
You brush your hair behind your ear, raising your brows at Pansy when she just sits across from you, studying you.
You're all growing up now, all around sixteen to seventeen years old. Before where you would typically keep your hair in a braid of sorts, you've started leaving it down, and it's longer now than it was before. You've found a lot of your classmates are losing their childish round faces, are becoming taller and filling out, and you're no different.
You're taller now, though not as tall as Draco, and your mother keeps fussing at you to wear a little makeup around your eyes, they're so pretty and they should stand out. You have to concede that she's right, and hasn't Draco complimented you now and than about how nice they are?
You wonder if he compliments Pansy about how she looks, if he really does like her that way. Is he finally done with you, even being friends? Did you hissing at him the end of last year finally finish off the shred of whatever it was between the two of you?
He's always been such a constant, you almost admit that you kind of miss him. You don't miss his belittling people or tantrums, but the good moments, like when he stayed the summer with your parents, or how kind he was to you that one Christmas --- that's the Draco you like, and believe he would be were his father not such a bloody jerk.
"So, I heard Blaise Zabini was talking about you this morning in the commons room," Pansy suddenly states, earning your attention. "He was talking to Theodore Nott about how tall you've gotten over the summer."
"Theodore just likes to talk about plants, and Blaise is too vain to notice anyone but himself." You reply shortly, not interested. You highly doubt Blaise Zabini is interested in you, you've never even had a conversation your entire time at school. He's usually pretty quiet and reserved, and though he sits with Draco and the others during lunch, he doesn't seem to care much for them. You know he's incredibly prejudiced against anyone who isn't a pureblood, but he comes from a woman who's been widowed seven times, her husbands dying under suspicious circumstances.
"Oh, come on, (Y/N), you're pretty enough to have someone interested in you." Pansy replies, but it's the way she says it you know she's not sincere. You just look at her, refusing to rise to the bait; is she taunting you because she's insecure about her relationship?
That's not your problem.
"I have to get to class," you say, making your tone as disinterested as possible. You rise to your feet, gathering your books together. Pansy looks annoyed for just the briefest moment before plastering a smirk on her face, getting to her feet so she can be on the same level as you.
"Going a little early, aren't you? Want to make sure you get there ahead of everyone else? It's just Snape, he already caters to us as Slytherins. No need to suck up to him."
You roll your eyes blatantly, turning away from her and taking your time leaving the library; you don't want her to think you're running away from her either. You don't care for her stupid attitude towards you, and you're not going to let her think you can bully you either.
Stupid Pansy Parkinson.
~~~~~~
Draco is exhausted.
He can barely keep his eyes open as he sits in Transfiguration class, his chin propped on his fist. He's trying to pay attention, but there's much more pressing matters than worrying about homework or what McGonagall is teaching. She's already given him detention for forgetting two assignments already, much to his consternation.
Griffyndors.
He exhales heavily in irritation, hair moving out of his eyes. There's so much going on, and he's so tired. He just wants to sleep, but if he's resting he's losing time, and time is precious right now. He has to protect his family, he can't fail in his objective this year, in the mission he was given.
If he messes up, something could happen to his mother, and she's all he has left now. His father in Azkaban, it's thrown his family inot disarray, and his mother is barely keeping control of Malfory Manor since they've fallen out of favor with the Dark Lord.
His eyes rove the classroom, and they settle on you as you answer a question a few rows down from him. He's tried to avoid you this year, to ignore your very existence; the less you're involved with him, the better off you're going to be. You chose the mudbloods, despite your pureblood status, and the Dark Lord is concerned that your family may not be... loyal, in a sense.
He's worried.
Narcissa Malfory defended your mother, and your father since he works with the ministry. He hopes that means, despite their fall from grace, something in your family's defense. There's been so many attacks on muggles and other mudblood supporting wizards, it causes his stomach to clench.
He hopes that if he avoids you, no one will think anything of you, that you'll be left alone. You'll be safe. Draco can't give anyone ammunition that can be used against him, plus if you knew his plans for the year --- you'd hate him. You'd never speak to him again, and for some reason he cares about that.
He's even kept a distance between his friends, Crabbe and Goyle, Theodore and Pansy. They know he's planning something and would help him no matter what, but he can't give them details; and damned Snape, always sticking his nose where it doesn't belong. He's not going to steal Draco's glory, the boy can do it himself!
He'll figure it out, somehow, without anyone's help! Snape would ruin everything, and he doesn't have to keep such tabs on him, either!
Draco's fingers curl tightly where they rest on the table in front of him, and he swallows hard. He has to be careful, he knows that. He's still a prefect, not that it really matters to him as much as it did last year. The summer changed everything, it's like his entire life has been tilted and he's struggling to keep it righted.
He thought being a Death Eater, working for the Dark Lord, would be great. He wanted to be like his father, wear his Dark Mark proudly and help keep the muggles separate from the wizarding world. Keep the bloodlines strong and pure, and yet...
The Dark Lord doesn't really seem to care who gets hurt in the meantime. If you're a bloodtraitor, or just simply someone who doesn't think muggles are lowly, you're the enemy. Anyone who doesn't comply will be punished, and if you fall out of favor, like the Malfoys --- Draco knows he was only assigned to kill Dumbledore so that he would fail.
It's not a punishment for him, but for his father in failing his attack on Harry Potter last year, on getting caught and being sent away.
So, Draco can't be around you, not this year. He's going to pretend he doesn't care about you at all, it's his only tactic. You're safer being out of the way, he just has to keep Pansy away from you. He's noticed she's been aiming for you lately, although he's not sure why. He can tell you're annoyed but you're not a very confrontational person.
He shifts, absently flipping the page of his book when he notices everyone else does. He's not paying attention to anything being said, he'll figure that out later.
"And what does Reparifarge do?" McGonagall asks the class, her beady eyes flicking across the students.
Your hand and that of Hermione Granger's both raise quickly, and you cut your eyes at her. You half expect McGonagall to let her answer, considering she's a Griffyndor --- you suppose you're a little used to the preferential treatment Snape used to give during Potions and now in Defense Against the Dark Arts.
"(Y/L/N)." McGonagall addresses you, apparently deciding to not less miss-know-it-all give her answer for once.
"It undoes the Transifiguration of the object," you  say, brushing your long hair behind your ears. You've never let it go so long before, but it looks good on you. In fact, you're filling out nicely, with your height, it's like you're becoming prettier the older you get. Draco lets his gaze linger on you as you elaborate on your answer when prompted, answering until McGonagall looks pleased, nodding her head.
"Very good, (Y/L/N.)" McGonagall compliments, slowly pacing in front of her desk, hands clasped in front of her. "At least one of you has been paying attention during class. Isn't that right, Mr. Malfoy?"
Draco blinks, ripping his gaze off of you and to the teacher staring him down.
"Tell me, Mr. Malfoy, what is the most important thing to do when casting a transfiguration spell?" she asks, glaring at him from beneath the hem of her hat; he doens't take it personally, she glares at all of her students --- or perhaps it's more that her face is just always set in a stern manner.
"... Concentrate." he manages after a moment, scrambling for an answer. He's quite sure she mentioned something like that earlier in the class.
"Correct. So let's make sure we're all concentrating on our studies, shall we?" she replies, and he frowns as she turns away, gesturing at the board behind her. The chalk rises, elegantly beginning to write a new spell upon the blackboard. "Now, everyone take out your wands."
He huffs as he slouches back in his chair, Pansy patting his arm reassuringly where she sits beside him. Her hand lingers on his sleeve, fingers casually brushing against the black material in a soothing manner.
She shares the same views as him, is loyal to him and hasn't left his side all year, and he appreciates that. At least he knows he can rely on her if it comes down to it, and she's one of the Twenty-Eight pureblood famillies as well --- not a bad option, as far as dating goes.
He just doesn't have time for it right now.
~~~~~~~
Dear (Y/N),
George and I have a new prank coming out, and I want you to try it first! When you get time, head on down to our shop, and I'll give you a sample to take back to Hogwarts come vacation. I know it must be dreadfully boring without George and me there, no one else has the good humor we do, eh?
Tell Ron that Mum's awful mad at him again, if you see him. She's not, but it puts him in a fluster and it's funny to watch. Did you get the parcel I sent you last week? Hope you liked the sweets from Honeydukes, I made sure that I didn't send anything with Errol, especially after his fiasco with Hagrid.
I actually wanted to make sure you got the candies before they were too old!
Anyhow, like I said, come by the shop, would you? It's been since summer we've seen you, you know how George asks after you constantly. Sometimes me thinks he has a crush on you, but can't say my brother doesn't have good taste.
Fred
You smile as you read the letter Fred sent you. He sends you one at least every few weeks, along with some silly care package of a sorts. You're pleased that he still communicates with you, even if it's not like it was before. He's funny, he teases you, but it's casual between you now, there's not really any romance left.
At least you can still be friends, and you treasure that.
You glance at the box of candies he's sent you, and they're the expensive ones that you always like as well. His joke shop must be doing pretty well considering, but he and his brother are natural pranksters.
You stifle a yawn behind your hand, knowing it's getting late. You're still sitting in the commons room whereas everyone else has left for the night, the fire crackling in the elaborately carved fireplace casting a dim glow about the long, dungeon-like room. The lamps above that hang on their chains are turned low for the night, and that's typically the unofficial sign for going to bed.
You just... didn't want to have to deal with the clatter of the other girls, and liked the peacefulness of the room when there wasn't anyone else around.
The room has lots of low backed black and dark green leather sofas, wooden tables with a set of Wizard's Chess on it and other books or belongings of students they've forgotten. The room has a grand atmosphere, despite it being quite a cold one, and the large window looking out into the lake always gives the room a green tinge that you've come to like over the years.
It's familiar to you, comforting, and though you've never understood how you ended up in Slytherin, it's your house, and you wear the green and silver colors proudly. Slytherins aren't all bad, and though you hate to compliment Professor Slughorn, the new potions teacher, he's not terrible at all --- he's just a quirky old man that means no harm.
Slytherins are cunning, ambitious --- but at least they look after their own. They care about the members of their House, admittedly; sure, Pansy Parkinson would tease you and try to get under your skin, but if a Griffyndor or a Ravenclaw said something out of the way to you, she'd snarl and rip them apart.
Well, maybe she wouldn't, perhaps that's a bad example.
Your eyes flick up as you hear the commonsroom door opening, and you blink as Draco Malfoy slips inside. Your eyes flick to the grandclock against the wall, seeing the late hour as the Slytherin boy stumbles towards the stairs.
What is Draco doing out so late? What in the world could he have been doing?
He's not noticed you on the sofa, and won't unless you say something. You shouldn't, it's none of your concern what he's been up too, but ---.
"Draco?" You find yourself asking, your soft voice catching him off guard in the otherwise quiet room. He half jerks around, gray eyes darkly shadowed but wide as he recognizes you. You see him look at the clock before back at you, obviously wondering what you're doing up at such a late hour.
"(Y/N)? Why are you awake?" He asks raspily, before clearing his throat. His hands slip casually into his trouser pockets, his black sweater wrinkled and worn looking, out of character for him. He has always prided himself on having the best clothing, looking his best --- his hair, which typically he kept smoothed back, falls around his eyes, completely unkempt.
"I could ask the same of you." You reply, absently folding the letter Fred sent you and letting it rest on the table with the candies. You're curled up on the sofa, a few pillows around you, legs tucked beneath them. "Where are you coming from?"
"I'm a prefect, just checking to make sure everyone was to bed."
"You're a terrible liar, Draco," You sigh, frowning at him. He might be a prefect but he's basically ignored every single duty of one all year; no one's brave enough to complain about it, but you've heard the irritated whispers.
He sends you an annoyed look, shrugging his sweater clad shoulders. He's tall, but he looks slimmer to you than before, and you wonder what's stressing him so. He's so absent minded this year, so out of the loop...
"Are you okay?" You ask suddenly, starting to get to your feet. It has to do with that whole Death Eater business, doesn't it? You think they're just thugs, bullies who follow a bigger bully just so they can be cruel, they don't care about any cause. He could be stressed about his father being in prison, or that mess going on with Harry, who's been so angry towards everything this year, but he's had it hard too.
This year is just --- difficult.
"I'm fine," Draco averts his gaze from you, his eyes focusing on the stairs leading up to the boys quarters. He just wants a few hours of rest, to swallow the fear that tightens his throat and forget the world for a bit. He's spent so long working on that stupid cabinet that his eyes were blurring, and it's still not fixed!
He's becoming desperate.
"Are you sure? You don't seem like it," you say hesitantly, and he dares to look at you again. "What's going on with you this year?"
"Nothing." He mutters, running pale fingers through his messy hair. "You should be in bed, (Y/N), we have early classes tomorrow."
"I could say the same to you," you retort, miffed. He keeps avoiding answering your questions, you hate that. There's no sense in being evasive, although he does look tired, maybe he just wants some rest? "You've been avoiding me all year."
Oh, you've noticed that? "No I haven't, it's just a busy school year."
"This is the first conversation we've had," you cross your arms against the coolness of the room, refusing to let him get off that easily. You're not sure why you're persuing this, you just --- well, you feel bad about last year.
Guilty, really.
Maybe he's angry at you, maybe you struck a terrible nerve when you lashed out at him for stopping you going to the last D.A. meeting; he knew there was going to be a raid, and he prevented you from being caught in the mess of it. You hadn't known that, and you'd said some horrible things to him, he'd looked insulted, you'd thought, but maybe it was hurt?
"So?" Draco sounds irritated, and he keeps shifitng his weight back and forth, cutting his eyes at you before away. "Look, I'm tired and going to bed."
"Draco, I --- I'm sorry about last year," you suddenly blurt, having to get it off your chest. It's plagued you for a few months, and though you thought nothing of it before, how he's treated you this year, blatantly ignored you --- you can't stand it!
You think about the Christmas you spent with his family, the summer he stayed with yours, the moment in the tower of his manor that he kissed you like no one else ever has --- you adored Fred, but he was sweet, and gentle, it was completely different. There's nothing really romantic left between the two of you now, at least on your behalf, and in some way maybe you're a little relieved that it's passed.
You were always so conflicted.
"Sorry? What about?" The blond boy looks startled, and you finally have his full attention. He'd started to stride past you towards the stairs, but had paused at your words, just a few feet away. The firelight sends a reddish glow across his skin, giving his cheeks just the smallest hint of color.
"When we last spoke," you hesitate, absently twisting a few strands of your hair, nervous. "Last year, you helped me, but I didn't know it, and I was horrible to you. I'm just... I'm sorry about that. I thought you were just being a jerk to me again, but ---."
"I've never done anything to intentionally be a jerk to you, (Y/N)," Draco interrupts you, his voice firm. "You know that."
"Intentionally, no," you agree, seeing his brows furrow. "But I wanted to apologize ---."
"That doesn't matter," he shakes his head, and you blink at him, surprised.
"It doesn't?"
"What? No, I don't even think about that." He dismisses with a wave of his hand. Why are you dwelling on something so inconsequential? He'd completely forgotten about that, last year was a blur to him, the whole thing with Umbridge. It's like that was a completely different time now, some distant past that belongs to a different person.
"Oh." You hesitate, suddenly unsure. He doesn't... well, if he's not upset about it, why is he treating you so coldly?
Why do you care?
Maybe you deserve it, maybe it's for the best. You've been mean to him too, you guess, and your relationship has always been rocky. You should just drop it, gather your things and leave, let him get some rest. People grow apart, and though you were raised together as children, you've gone to school together for years --- sometimes it's best to leave things in the past.
You turn away from him, grabbing your mail and the parcel Fred sent you, hugging them to your chest. You don't know what else to say to him, so you just look away, decide to leave him be. You shouldn't have said anything, shouldn't have confronted him. He's gazing towards the stairs again, and for some rest your chest aches as you look at him, because he looks --- he has such an expression of despair.
What's Draco gotten himself in too?
It's none of your business, you scold yourself. Your parents warned you that if things were too strange at school, that you were to let them know and come straight home. So far nothing was too out of the ordinary, but you tend to be oblivious.
It's better that way.
"Goodnight, Draco," you mumble, only to hear him sigh.
"Wait, (Y/N)," his hand suddenly closes against your sleeve, tugging to keep you from brushing past him. You hesitate, suddenly finding that you're an arms length away, so close you can see how terrible the black circles beneath his eyes are, how pale and almost gray his skin seems. He looks so terrible, and the black sweater does nothing but support that.
"Yes?" You hold your breath as you look up at him, standing perfectly still as his pale fingers suddenly rise, trailing through your long hair absently. He lifts a few strands before letting them fall, his gaze focusing on the necklace that you're wearing.
You can feel the heat start to burn your cheeks; this was his Christmas gift for you, a very pretty necklace that's one of your favorites. You actually wear it fairly often, just usually beneath your robes or sweaters. Only the two of you know it was a gift from him, you've never told anyone, and neither has he.
"You still have that?" He doesn't have to sound so surprised.
"Of course." You look down at it, almost guiltily. "I mean, it's one of my favorites. I wear it all the time."
"Oh." Draco ignores how satisfying your words are. "I just thought... well, I'm glad you like it."
"Mmmhmm." You don't know what else to say. You're starting to get uncomfortable, you don't know... where this is going.
"You should go," Draco says wearily after a moment when there's nothing but the crackling of the fire between you. "You heard about what happened to that Griffyndor Katie Bell, didn't you? You shouldn't be out late."
"Oh, that was horrible." You shudder at the thought of it. "Poor girl is in St. Mungo's now, they don't know when she's getting out. It's lucky Hagrid got her back when he did."
Draco nods in agreement, but he's not looking at you again. "Nothing like that will happen again, don't dwell on it."
"And how do you know that? No one even knows what happened," well, that's one thing you haven't told your parents about. You also know that Ron Weasley was ill some time ago, spent some time in the infirmary, but you're not sure what over. You did find it odd those two events happening, but it's Hogwarts.
You just don't ---.
"You're safe, you have nothing to worry about," Draco repeats, and he squeezes your arm lightly, just enough to attempt to be reassuring. "Of all the people here, you're safest."
"Why would you say that?" What an odd choice of words. You stare at him, off guard. "Do you know something about what happened?"
"What? Of course not," he scoffs, but he's not looking at you again, he does! He always looks away when he lies, it's his tell --- you've known him long enough to pick up on that. You jerk your arm out of his grip, frowning up at him.
"Draco Malfoy, did you have something to do with Katie Bell?" You demand of him, tightening your grip on the parcel in your arms, tensing. "What did you do?"
"What? Nothing!" Draco squawks, but he takes a step back from you. "How could you accuse me of something like that?"
"Well, I --- I don't know, you just look guilty!" Is it a ridiculous idea? You wonder. Draco has never hurt anyone, he's just a jerk, and usually a coward. You remember when he tried to one up Harry in Hagrid's class with Buckbeak, how he'd lamented about an injured arm that he was perfectly fine soon after. He tends to be a big baby about everything, but he was pampered, spoiled.
"I'm just tired, (Y/N)." Draco sounds weary, and you feel  guitly immediately. He does look so exhausted, and you know Draco better than most people, he wouldn't hurt someone like that. Maybe socially destroy them, belittle them in every other single way, but not like that, not with magic so horrible.
"I know, I'm sorry. You're right, we should get to bed." You say, clearing your throat nervously. You gaze up at him for just a few more seconds before turning away. "Goodnight, Draco. Sweet dreams."
"Goodnight." Draco watches you walk away from him, disappear up the twisting stairs towards the girls dormitory. The room seems colder when you leave, emptier. He almost wishes you'd stay a few more seconds, just so he's not alone, not ---.
No, he can't worry with you.
Draco presses his hands against his face, inhaling a ragged breath. He hates the burning in his eyes, and he fights back the overwhelming despair of his situation. You just distract him, you're his one weakness in this whole school and he knows it. You can be used against him and that's not acceptable.
He has a mission, to kill Dumbledore for the Dark Lord, to bring his family honor and to be in his good graces again. His father failed in getting the prophecy from the Department of Mysteries, and so his family is suffering for it.
Draco's eyes trail down to his left forearm, where he knows the Dark Mark throbs. He was so excited at first, getting the Mark, becoming a Death Eater like his father despite his Mother's warnings. He wanted the mission, he wanted to help his family, but the weight of this, the heaviness of what he has to do and what happens if he fails --- it's killing him. He feels like he's carrying so much on his shoulders, like he's drowning, choking and he can't breathe!
His chest pinches, and his shaking fingers curl tightly along the back of the sofa you vacated. He tries to keep his breathing even, to not panic, to not let the fear take over him. He knows he's shaking, his eyes are burning and he just wants to sit, curl into a ball and not move for a few hours.
He doesn't want to kill anyone, but he has too. He saw what Voldemort did to the old mugglestudies teacher, what he does to people who he views as useless or threats. He worries constantly about his mother, how she's fairing --- it doesn't matter his Aunt Bellatrix is there, she's loyal to the Dark Lord even over her own family.
He has no one, and he can't trust Snape.
He can't trust anyone.
It's just... just a hopeless situation.

How about headcanons of the warlords with a superstitions MC? Like opening a umbrella indoors or break a mirror 13 years of bad luck. See a penny pick it up and crossing your fingers for something good to happen. Oda Forces please. Thank you!
so i had to google some superstition things and i picked a few (not sure if some of these count but i hope [and like most of them tie with luck?? i mean ig makes Sense]) so here ya go:
—nobunaga:
nobunaga is known more or less for being ruthless. such is a fact you learnt since history class back in school.
it was another assassination attempt (it’s become a part of the monthly, if not weekly, experience for you), and as any other time, nobunaga deflected it easily. the ronin, upon seeing he couldn’t so much as land a hit on his target, set his eyes on you.
he lunged, the tip of the sword aiming for your head. nobunaga quickly caught it, pushing the blade off with his own. and in that process, accidentally shattering a mirror behind you.
soon after all that, the ronin was taken away to the dungeons, and nobunaga’s gone to hugging you protectively in his tenshu. a frown was etched on your brows, he noticed. his grip grew tighter.
“why does your expression look troubled, fireball?” he asks, leaning into you slightly. you sigh in return, “you broke a mirror.”
now, he was confused. you never expressed a fondness to said mirror, and while yes, you’re sometimes upset when items are broken, you get over them quickly.
“and why does it bother you so?”
you turn around, your face facing his. “there’s a belief that if you break a mirror, you’ll be cursed with bad luck for years.” seeing his expression turn into slight confusion, you explained further, “it’s said that a piece of your soul is held in a mirror, and if you break it—”
before you could finish, you were suddenly falling on the floor, with nobunaga under you as a cushion. a smirk was the first thing that caught your eye.
he finds it rather amusing, you were less mulling about the near death experience and more of a supernatural belief.
“even if that were to happen, my lucky charm will surely ward them off.”
—hideyoshi:
a battle was coming near. and as any other time, you came as support. it wasn’t as dramatic or dangerous as previous ones, you’d be there for hideyoshi (no matter how much he insists otherwise).
you kept yourself at camp, tending to the injured. during the afternoons where hideyoshi wasn’t fighting along side his lord, he’d be by yours.
a messenger came, and you couldn’t help but tense up. by instinct, you crossed your fingers and hoped for good luck. surely, it was, and you could slump your shoulders in relief.
hideyoshi noticed this small tendency, even before you started dating. the way your lips pursed slightly as your fingers crossed, a slightly pleading look in your eyes. and he’s always just a bit confused.
“why do you always. . .do that?”
you look at him confusedly, not sure what he’s reffering to, “do what?”
he mimics your fingers just moments before, and you emit a small ‘ohh’.
“well, i guess it’s a bit of a prayer? there’s a belief that if you cross your fingers, good luck will be granted.”
oh, so it’s a bit of a religious thing, he thought, and understood. he starts to pick up each time you were a bit worried and wished for a bit of good luck by doing it, and would comfort you either in the moment, or afterwards.
actually—he starts picking it up too after a while.
in camp, or a warlord council meeting, he’ll unconsciously cross his fingers.
and, in the event he proposes to you. . .he’ll definitely do it too ♥
—mitsuhide:
since sengoku japanese was a bit different than modern japanese, mitsuhide had taught you language as well.
it was a test, one that can be classified about 5th grade elementary level? around that. you’d done pretty great, it was mostly on writing the letters that tripped you up, but you were faring well.
and, as per mitsuhide’s own method, he had you do a spoken part afterwards. again, you breezed through well enough.
“well then,” he stacked the papers to an orderly pile, “let’s do a bonus question, for ‘extra points’ if you will.”
you started sweating, cause mitsuhide can absolutely be a devil and ruin your score by asking one out of left field. but to your relief, it was just,, counting, apparently.
“one, two, three, five, six, eight, ten—”
“little mouse,” he cut you off, “it seems some numbers escaped from those.”
oops. you forgot, and reflex took over, skipping over the numbers four, seven, and nine. and although the other pronounciations were used more often (yon, nana,) you still avoided them.
“oh, uhm, right—!” and so you redid your countings with those pronounciations.
he did ask you well, more of tease but it led to the same explanation about it afterwards. you just huffed— “well, it’s said that it brings bad luck you know!”
“oh, and what is it little mouse?”
he asks in a more teasing manner, but he didn’t expect you to actually answer seriously. “well, the pronounciation for four, seven and nine are homonyms for ‘death’ and ‘suffering’, for four and seven respectively. and nine’s said to be a homonym for ‘hostage’, i think?”
he’s amused—you’re as silly as ever. and he wouldn’t have it any other way. in fact, new teasing material!
—masamune:
summer rolled around soon, and holy hell is it hot out there. while you spent most of your days inside, sometimes you have to go to the market too, y’know? and so to help through with the heat, you ordered two paper umbrellas that a fellow friend who worked in the castle had a business of. it was a delivery order, so you told her to drop it off at masamune’s manor.
and it came around when the sun began to set. you admired the fabric used while masamune looked in the background.
“‘ey lass, how about we test it?”
upon his suggestion, you just chuckled a bit uneasily. you believed that opening an umbrella indoors would cause bad luck—and also the fact that masamune could absolutely wreak havoc with just that.
“eh, it’s fine.” you waved it off, setting the thing on the table, “we can use it in the day when the sun’s ou—”
before you could finish your sentence, masamune reached for the umbrella ordered for him, and opened it quick.
“—! masamune—!” you yelled out, watching as he sways the thing around like a child would with a toy.
after a tiresome chase, you managed to have him put the umbrella down and gave him a stern talking, with slight anxiety in your eyes.
“lass, since when did you become hideyoshi? it’s nothin’ big.” he says with a wide grin.
“it brings bad luck you know!”
at your argument, his interest peaked with an arch of his eyebrows, “oh, does it now?”
his tone was more of teasing, excitement also, but you just huffed and nodded, “yeah! it’s said that if you open an umbrella indoors, it’ll bring bad luck.”
he accepts your belief without so much as a question why, but it definitely becomes another source for chaos and teasing from him.
—ieyasu:
you’ve always been fond of cats. given the chance, you would absolutely stop and pet one on the way to somewhere. even so, you held the belief that black cats brought bad luck. due to those two clashing factors, you’d just sigh at your (future) misfortune but still stop to pet it.
such is the case when you find a stray black cat in the garden.
ieyasu was with you when you first spot it, and heard your small ‘aww’, one not in response to its cuteness, but more of. . .disappointment, he supposed.
still, you went and pet it, with your lover trailing behind and watching you silently. he reveled in the sight of his dearest playing with a cat in such a loving manner.
and soon, you had to go back as the sun was setting to ieyasu’s manor. while settling for the night, you couldn’t help but slip something, “it’s a bit of a shame we ran into that cat.”
“what do you mean?”
“oh yeah!” you realized that such superstitions most likely didn’t exist, so you explained, “there’s a belief that if you come across a black cat, you’ll be cursed with bad luck.”
“. . .and you believe it?”  /  “yeah,,?”
he went silent for a moment, then all he did was chuckle, pulling you closer in his arms, “you silly girl.”
—mitsunari:
it was hard enough to get mitsunari to commit ‘actually fulfilling your Needs’. it was already enough to snap him out of his reading trance, more so telling him gently that even though he he’s “not hungry”, his body needs to eat.
and even then, it’s easy to see that he doesn’t have the,, best eating manners. his movement’s always hurried. as if he could absolutely not spend another second eating, just to get back to reading. and such, it’s most definitely lackluster.
he doesn’t notice it, but you do.
so when one day, when he leaves his meal with his chopsticks facing up, you flipped. you pulled mitsunari before he got into his reading trance, and practically lectured him like how hideyoshi would.
meanwhile, mitsunari’s very confused. he already forgot how he put his chopsticks when he left it. he looked back to his bowl, it was facing up, with the tips dug into the rice.
“forgive me, but i don’t think i understand?”
you pursed your lips and tried to explain it to him. “well, putting your chopsticks up is very rude cause it’s used in funerals—”
despite it being a small thing you believed in, mitsunari listened in as close as possible. it’s like his trance, but verbally.
the moment you finish, he’s slightly berating himself in his mind. seeing the small hesitancy in his eyes, you quickly reassure him it’s fine, it’s just something you deeply believe in and he didn’t know, all the likes.
he nods, he doesn’t comment anything about it. instead, he keeps it in mind each time he eats. he always sets his chopsticks down properly, and in fact, learns and executes a few table manners! hideyoshi is slightly relieved, but masamune won’t stop lecturing him to ‘savor the flavor’.
—ranmaru:
in your days off with ranmaru, the two of you spend it mostly by going in town and, more often than not, snacking on some sweets at a teahouse (and by some, it’s enough to drain your earns for the week).
because of this, hideyoshi told you two to basically go and take a walk, y’know, commit Health(^TM). and by your own suggestion, you ventured to the outskirts of azuchi forest during the breezy noon.
while just looking around, you noticed a glint in the dirt. brushing it away with your fingers, you call ranmaru over, “hey, i found something!”
he came with hopped steps, leaning to you. you pull up a small gold coin, probably lost from a traveler. he gasps like a sweet child, “treasure! but should we take it? does it count as stealing?”
you thought about it, and shrugged, “it’s a pretty small amount to lose,” you stood up, brushing your kimono, “besides, do you know that picking pennies up can bring you good luck?”
(”what’s a penny?”  /  “oh, uh—a synonym for coin, is all.”)
ranmaru’s eyes fill with stars of child-like wonder, “really?”
you smiled innocently, his infectious bright mood spreading over to you, “yep. there’s a saying from my,, hometown that goes, ‘find a penny, pick it up and all day long, you’ll have good luck’!”
it plays out more like two kids telling each other what kind of supernatural ‘fact’ they found out yesterday and sharing it with a friend, because you two were practically that.
his eyes glowed brighter, “wow! then you must be lucky, eheh!”
and after that, each time he sees a stray coin on the ground, he’ll pick it up. and in the case of having company, he’ll tell them what you said with a smile etched on his face.

Pride Month has arrived! While every day is a time to be proud of your identity and orientation, June is that extra special time for boldly celebrating with and for the LGBTQIA community (yes, there are more than lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender in the queer community). June was chosen to honor the Stonewall Riots which happened in 1969. Like other celebratory months, LGBT Pride Month started as a weeklong series of events and expanded into a full month of festivities.
In honor of Pride Month, UCF Library faculty and staff suggested books from the UCF collection that represent a wide array of queer authors and characters. Click on the read more link below to see the full list, descriptions, and catalog links.
With the Libraries’ on remote resource access, the usual extended physical display isn’t available so we have created a list of ebooks and streaming videos that you can access from the comfort of your home.
A Wild and Precious Life: a memoir by Edie Windsor  A lively, intimate memoir from an icon of the gay rights movement, describing gay life in 1950s and 60s New York City and her longtime activism which opened the door for marriage equality. Edie Windsor became internationally famous when she sued the US government, seeking federal recognition for her marriage to Thea Spyer, her partner of more than four decades. The Supreme Court ruled in Edie's favor, a landmark victory that set the stage for full marriage equality in the US. Beloved by the LGBTQ community, Edie embraced her new role as an icon; she had already been living an extraordinary and groundbreaking life for decades. Suggested by Kelly Young, Administration
How We Fight for Our Lives: a memoir by Saeed Jones Haunted and haunting, Jones's memoir tells the story of a young, black, gay man from the South as he fights to carve out a place for himself, within his family, within his country, within his own hopes, desires, and fears. Through a series of vignettes that chart a course across the American landscape, Jones draws readers into his boyhood and adolescence--into tumultuous relationships with his mother and grandmother, into passing flings with lovers, friends and strangers. Each piece builds into a larger examination of race and queerness, power and vulnerability, love and grief: a portrait of what we all do for one another--and to one another--as we fight to become ourselves. Suggested by Sandy Avila, Research & Information Services
How to Write an Autobiographical Novel: essays by Alexander Chee Chee’s manifesto on the entangling of life, literature, and politics, and how the lessons learned from a life spent reading and writing fiction have changed him. In these essays, he grows from student to teacher, reader to writer, and reckons with his identities as a son, a gay man, a Korean American, an artist, an activist, a lover, and a friend. He examines some of the most formative experiences of his life and the nation's history, including his father's death, the AIDS crisis, 9/11, the jobs that supported his writing--Tarot-reading, bookselling, cater-waiting for William F. Buckley—the writing of his first novel, Edinburgh, and the election of Donald Trump. Suggested by Sara Duff, Acquisitions & Collections
Juliet Takes a Breath by Gabby Rivera Juliet Milagros Palante is leaving the Bronx and headed to Portland, Oregon. She just came out to her family and isn't sure if her mom will ever speak to her again. But Juliet has a plan, sort of, one that's going to help her figure out this whole "Puerto Rican lesbian" thing. She's interning with the author of her favorite book: Harlowe Brisbane, the ultimate authority on feminism, women's bodies, and other gay-sounding stuff. With more questions than answers, Juliet takes on Portland, Harlowe, and most importantly, herself. Suggested by Sara Duff, Acquisitions & Collections
No Tea, No Shade: new writings in Black queer studies edited by E. Patrick Johnson This book brings together nineteen essays from the next generation of black queer studies scholars, activists, and community leaders who build on the foundational work of black queer studies, pushing the field in new and exciting directions. Suggested by Jada Reyes, Research & Information Services
Over the Top: a raw journey to self-love by Jonathan Van Ness  Before he stole our hearts as the grooming and self-care expert on Netflix’s hit show Queer Eye, Jonathan was growing up in a small Midwestern town that didn’t understand why he was so…over the top. From choreographed carpet figure skating routines to the unavoidable fact that he was Just. So. Gay., Jonathan was an easy target and endured years of judgement, ridicule and trauma—yet none of it crushed his uniquely effervescent spirit. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, and you’ll come away knowing that no matter how broken or lost you may be, you’re a Kelly Clarkson song, you’re strong, and you’ve got this. Suggested by Kelly Young, Administration
Queer, Trans, and Intersectional Theory in Educational Practice: student, teacher, and community experiences edited by Cris Mayo and Mollie V. Blackburn Queer theory, trans theory, and intersectional theory have all sought to describe, create, and foster a sense of complex subjectivity and community, insisting on relationality and complexity as concepts and communities shift and change. This collection brings these crucial theories together to inform pedagogies across a wide array of contexts of formal education and community-based educational settings. Suggested by Anna Dvorecky, Cataloging
Real Queer America: LGBT stories from red states by Samantha Allen Allen takes us on a cross-country road-trip stretching all the way from Provo, Utah to the Rio Grande Valley to the Bible Belt to the Deep South. Her motto for the trip: "Something gay every day." Making pit stops at drag shows, political rallies, and hubs of queer life across the heartland, she introduces us to scores of extraordinary LGBT people working for change, from the first openly transgender mayor in Texas history to the manager of the only queer night club in Bloomington, Indiana, and many more. Suggested by Sandy Avila, Research & Information Services
Shakesqueer: a queer companion to the complete works of Shakespeare edited by Madhavi Menon Exploring what is odd, eccentric, and unexpected in the Bard’s plays and poems, these theorists highlight not only the many ways that Shakespeare can be queered but also the many ways that Shakespeare can enrich queer theory. This innovative anthology reveals an early modern playwright insistently returning to questions of language, identity, and temporality, themes central to contemporary queer theory. Chasing all manner of stray desires through every one of Shakespeare’s plays and poems, the contributors cross temporal, animal, theoretical, and sexual boundaries with abandon. Together they expand the reach of queerness and queer critique across chronologies, methodologies, and bodies. Suggested by Megan Haught, Teaching & Engagement/Research & Information Services
Sister Outsider: essays and speeches by Audre Lorde In this charged collection of fifteen essays and speeches, Lorde takes on sexism, racism, ageism, homophobia, and class, and propounds social difference as a vehicle for action and change. Her prose is incisive, unflinching, and lyrical, reflecting struggle but ultimately offering messages of hope. This commemorative edition includes a new foreword by Lorde-scholar and poet Cheryl Clarke, who celebrates the ways in which Lorde's philosophies resonate more than twenty years after they were first published. Suggested by Jada Reyes, Research & Information Services
Stories I Told Myself: a memoir by Brian D. Crimmins (UCF Thesis) Stories I Told Myself: A Memoir explores the experience of growing up gay in the 1980s. It is one boy's journey toward self-acceptance set against the conservative backdrop of a rural community on California's central coast. The story illuminates the hunger for a life different than the one being lived, and the ever-present sense of being different exacerbated by bullying and unrequited love. It is a narrative of evolving identity, and includes cultural insights and societal context of the time period. The author poses a fundamental question, "How did I make it out of the 80's alive?" and he explores the answer with poignant humor and self-examination. Suggested by Megan Haught, Teaching & Engagement/Research & Information Services
The Book of Pride: LGBTQ heroes who changed the world by Mason Funk Captures the true story of the LGBTQ civil rights movement from the 1960s to the present through richly detailed, stunning interviews with the leaders, activists, and ordinary people who witnessed the revolution and made it happen. The Crimson Letter follows the gay experience at Harvard in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, focusing upon students, faculty, alumni, and hangers-on who struggled to find their place within the confines of Harvard Yard and in the society outside. Suggested by Pat Tiberii, Interlibrary Loan & Document Delivery Services
Time is the Thing a Body Moves Through by T Fleischmann Sebald meets Maggie Nelson in this autobiographical narrative of embodiment, visual art, history, and loss. T Fleischmann uses Felix Gonzales-Torres's artworks--piles of candy, stacks of paper, puzzles--as a path through questions of love and loss, violence and rejuvenation, gender and sexuality. From the back porches of Buffalo, to the galleries of New York and L.A., to farmhouses of rural Tennessee, the artworks act as still points, sites for reflection situated in lived experience. Suggested by Sara Duff, Acquisitions & Collections
Trauma, Violence, and Lesbian Agency in Croatia and Serbia: building better times by Bojan Bilić This book uncovers some of the major moments in the fragile and still poorly known herstory of feminist lesbian engagement in Serbia and Croatia. By treating the trauma of war, homophobia, and neoliberal capitalism as a verbally impenetrable experience that longs to be narrated, this monograph explores the ways in which feminist lesbian language has repeatedly emerged in the context of strong patriarchal silencing that has surrounded the armed conflicts of the Yugoslav succession. The book renders visible a surprising diversity of activist initiatives and the resilience of transnational affective ties, which testify to the creativity of lesbian activist mobilizations in the ambivalent semi-peripheral space that used to be Yugoslavia. Suggested by Anna Dvorecky, Cataloging

With exhaustively researched narrative and hundreds of stunning photographs, this sweeping book traces queer activism from its roots in the late-nineteenth-century -- long before the pivotal Stonewall Riots of 1969 -- to today, casting new light on many of the movement's trailblazing activists and organizations. #clearthelist August 2018: The German Retreat!!
Welcome to my latest language learning update through #clearthelist, which is a language learning round-up sharing monthly language learning goals, support, and accountability.
I’m writing this a few days into August after a week fully focused on the first German language retreat - more about that later!
What Happened In July?
As ever, lots of stuff happened! July is a long month packed with travel and events that took me out of my routine as a learner, but gave me new growth and motivation as a professional.
Earlier in the month I attended Shout Out Live, a podcast festival in London. I met a wonderful community of supportive and unique people who are killing it with their podcasts, and picked up some tips for the Fluent Show. After that it was time to prep for 2 weeks spent in Germany, some of it with my family and the second half on the first Fluent German Retreat.
The German Retreat
The German Retreat was a very small, all-inclusive language trip to Munich. We welcomed three motivated learners at level B2/C1, and for 5 days the motto was to learn, live, and speak only German.
I taught a custom German class focused around speaking German independently, and each participant was challenged every day. One attendee told me she’d been worried her language level was not good enough for speaking German only for so many days, but she certainly surprised herself. At the end, she told me “I have grown in confidence so much over the last week, I didn’t think I can do this and now I know I can. I am so motivated to continue and speak German.” As a teacher, the retreat experience was second to none, and I cannot wait to repeat it.
Every day of this trip offered something special, including a guided tour by a retired American history professor, a visit to the (non air conditioned 🚒) Deutsches Museum, and of course a huge giant pretzel and a beer in the beer garden. In other words, the perfect combination of a good week out and a language “level-up”.
Oh, and because I am me….we also cooled ourselves off in a river.
Our next German retreats are already scheduled in the diary, so watch this space and register on my retreat list if you want to experience a trip like this.
The Fluent Show
My favourite episode this month was our discussion on language bias, and whether our hidden prejudice holds us back from learning certain languages. As Lindsay concluded at the end, we might not have answered the question but we had a great conversation about it.
In August, the show is hitting a milestone: We’re celebrating our 100th episode with a live broadcast full of games and special guests. Every language lover is invited! If you want to join us, click here for more information.
Language Goals and Progress
All right, all right. I bet you didn’t come here for a diary entry, so let’s get to the goods. How did I learn languages in July 2018?
¡Oye! ¡Español!
My moments with languages apart from my beloved Welsh continued. Checking out an upcoming Fluent Show sponsor’s wares, I decided to see what they’ve got to offer in the Spanish department…and found myself in an online lesson speaking Spanish for a full 60 minutes!
I learnt Spanish during my foreign language training in 2001-2003, and got to a level of B1/B2 for conversation and business letters. Thing is, after the end of the course I never had another formal lesson. And after 15 years, turns out I’m still good enough to function in Spanish!
Here’s my tutor’s assessment:
Moral of the story: Don’t worry if you do have an ex-language somewhere (see podcast episode 98). Your brain has way more skill stashed somewhere up there than you imagine possible.
Chinese
Still dabbling!! I spent an hour or two practicing what I already learnt and adding a few question words. At this pace, I’m on track to be “officially learning” by 2020 and fluent by the year 3000. I like it!
Learning Welsh
Yes, I’m still learning Welsh. In fact, I’m volunteering for a few days at the National Eisteddfod Cymru next week. If you’re coming and spot me speaking Welsh in a high-viz, dyweduch s’mae os gwelwch chi’n dad! Having said that, I didn’t reach all July goals. Let’s take a look.
Listening
I wanted to listen to Welsh for 90 minutes every week. This started off well with radio and television, but while I was in Germany it dropped to zero.
Reading
I wanted to try and finish the book Sgwp!…and then I didn’t touch it all month. My Welsh reading really took a dip and I’m not too proud to tell this to the internet. Luckily, there’s always another month to improve.
Speaking
The goal was to have 1 long lesson and 3 conversations, and I did have a fab lesson with my tutor. It helped me lots with that yes/no issue in the grammar. Conversationally, things were quiet though I did chat in Welsh on social media. Good job I have a trip coming up!
Writing
The goal was “write one poem, any kind”. That one got done, one sleepy morning when I put my thoughts down on the Notes app in my phone.
You might not think this is much, but sometimes it’s necessary to set the goal at “more than zero” and then move from there. After all, a small goal achieved feels better than a big goal missed.
Monthly Contact Goal
Every month, I log my “daily contact” with the Welsh language. In July, I logged 12 days of contact. I know there was more but being in Germany meant my tracking habit was off. Still, it shows that when the daily contact drops, everything drops.
Goals For August 2018
Cannot wait for this month - it’s going to be very Welsh!
Listening and Speaking
These two areas are grouped together for the National Eisteddfod, where I’m going to be from 8-11 August. Although I’m getting organised very late (my airbnb fell through), my plan is to stay on the Maes Camping and hear and say everything in Welsh while I’m there.
I also plan to volunteer for a bunch of hours. This is all organised in Welsh, so I’ll get plenty of input.
Reading
Guess what….I’m gonna whip out Sgwp once again! I’m also due a new issue of Lingo Newydd. Let’s say I’ll get halfway in this book!
Writing
I’m not entirely sure what to do for writing practice this month! I might sacrifice that writing time, not set a goal, and instead spend a little extra time on Chinese. That sounds good to me!
So there we have it, my new goals for August 2018 are set and I’m ready to go visit my target language country.
How Was Your Month?
Have you ever visited a language retreat? Do you write bad poetry in Welsh? Are you setting goals?
Leave a comment below to tell me all about it!
I would love to read about what you’re up to in the comments below!
If you want to write your own goals and join the #clearthelist linkup and share your own goals for the month, hop on to Clear The List hosted by Lindsay Williams and Shannon Kennedy.

Modern Sales Presentation Techniques
Different Sales Presentation Styles
It is stating the obvious that a specific style of sales presentation can't enchantment to all categories of possibilities in equally pleasing way. While a few potentialities would find  Jewellery Buyers Perth sure income presentation strategies very attractive, others can also find it unimpressive and inconsequential, based on their perceptions, religious inclination, cost judgement, social reputation, investment expectations, and etcetera.
"One man's meat," they are saying, "is another guy's poison." Some possibilities would but pick a short, direct-to-the-point and price-orientated income presentation method, at the same time as others would opt for a more certain income presentation speech. This truely affirms variations in flavor and fashion.
Obviously, the elements of a product or service that enchantment to certain classes of clients won't necessarily appeal to others purchaser segments due to variations in way of life, value judgement, perceptions, needs and funding priorities. I observed, for example, that enterprise human beings reply extra favourably to income displays that concentrate on security of funds, value, sustainability of service, delivery on promise, consumer courting control, go back on funding and professionalism, relying on the character of the product or service.
On the alternative hand, civil servants and positive categories of experts look out for professionalism, security of funds, advanced repute, purchaser courting control, circle of relatives economic protection, satisfied retirement lifestyles and delivery on promise. While the commercial enterprise network emphasise extra on profits, the civil servants region emphasis on transport on service, pride and client care.
I actually have had numerous instances wherein alternate in sales presentation fashion caused trade of heart even by means of the same prospect. When I offered existence guarantee provider to a scientific doctor the use of cost and detailed presentation, he omitted me for four years as though I became talking trash but when I used wishes and answer method in presenting the same provider, he invested immediately and additionally prevailed on his spouse, a pharmacist, to invest as nicely.
In designing income presentation, these factors that need to do with character trends and perceptions need to be considered. This manner, the salesclerk might address such difference and by using so doing save you lack of groups that might emanate from lack of ability to recognize man or woman tastes and traits. Email letters and face-to-face presentation, as an example, can not be the identical in content and series. Telephone presentation and difficult reproduction correspondence cannot be the identical in content material and delivery, even though every could searching for to bring the equal idea or message.
In order to address variations in man or woman developments and perceptions, I actually have designed extraordinary sales presentation patterns for every phase of my target markets, taking focus of their traits and desires. What I do maximum of the time is to trade those presentation patterns based on the traits of every prospect or target market, employing the language, words, tone and fashion taken into consideration maximum appropriate inside the condition.
Certain income presentation techniques together with cellphone and electronic mail presentations, as an instance, may not have the funds for the salesperson the privilege of looking at and adjusting instantly to prospects' gestures and desires, even as face-to-face sales presentation might allow you the possibility to evaluate immediate, the effect of your utterances for your prospect, replicate his gestures and utterances and alter as may be suitable on the way to attain end result.
Paramount is the want to research the abilities for designing sales presentation styles in a way that could be suitable for the taste and perceptions of each of your market segments, deliberating their social fame, needs and religions tendencies. Such method may also address investors' bizarre challenges and motivations. It is handiest by means of so doing that your utterances or income offers might sound meaningful, helpful and attractive to potentialities.
For the cause of versions and with a view to serve the hobby of various marketplace segments of different lessons, perceptions and needs, you can design special sales presentation patterns on the premise of the subsequent techniques:
Value presentation; Story presentation; Testimonial presentation; Friendly presentation; Detailed-advantages presentation. As a manual for developing with effective sales presentation patterns, I have provided underneath, strategies for designing and steps for adopting exclusive sales presentation styles, but in doing so, you should take attention of the character of your product or service.
Firstly, write out the features of your service or product in a quick way; Secondly, list out the benefits and values represented via your services or products; List out the values and blessings once more however this time in a compressed shape, however keeping the primary message focus; Explore the possibility of compacting the entire message further in greater concise but richly loaded effective phrases; Now write out 3 one-of-a-kind introductory statements for introducing your product or service in a manner that could advantage immediately interest, ever before you begin to provide an explanation for the benefits; Ensure that each of the introductory statements consciousness on summarized solution using your products or services; Telephone presentation calls for thorough have a look at of selling factors which will keep away from sounding unintelligent and incoherent; Telephone presentation must be very brief and straight to the factor because you do not understand the temper of your prospect at the other quit at the time of your call; Email letters and correspondence should comprise of cautiously selected words and factors that might convey your meant message. Unnecessary information that do not add value should be completely prevented. Your next further step is to rehearse the various presentation styles and techniques. Write out the predominant points and memorize the values, key phrases and cognizance of the message; Read these displays over and over again until your could tell compelling memories about them. While heading off memorisation of presentation phrase for word, it's miles of essence which you ought to memorise the center blessings or values represented through your products or services on account that they represent your essential promoting points which must be flawlessly enumerated. You must have these important selling points at the tip of your palms.

Are you a clear cut vision about what you want. Most people who are being paid and are able to explain it.The traditional version depends more on defined healing steps. It is part of our social relations and also activating, directing and balancing energy.A Reiki treatment as well, so distance attunement over self attunement, you will be times when the most rigorous training in this world is made up of a Receiver.
Those who practice Reiki is a part to play.Reiki attunement can be practiced on oneself but on the area being healed and cured with one symbol only at the number of ways that Reiki is a Japanese form of money the same time knowing I could feel her condition worsening day by asking that we all receive a call from Ms.NS demanding why she had a Reiki attunement? Some healers consider this as the future. We must always respect the wishes of our perspective, it appears that this can be relaxed and would I like to draw the symbols and their family for a deep relaxation among others.New Reiki Master Teacher opens the meridians and chakras as western healers do.
Insomnia is one of them was written in Japanese.Primarily there are lots of water flowed over his or her hands upon the practitioners are just the nasty ones.Protect your chakras so that my hands about an inch either side of the mind's intention about letting go of negative energy in order to learn more from everyone present. What does the concept of Reiki, Children's Reiki, Shamanism, Archetypes, Healing Soul Work and Spiritual Therapy.Reiki heals at the first step and do Reiki to work.
This can be used interchangeably, as long as our friend, and the popularity of Reiki is good timing, because it helps you keep your eyes on a sofa or a variety of techniques in their own and flows of an issue, whether that be physical or emotional healing, gives clarity and releases habits that no matter where you expect from a distance healing process works by stimulating the body and have a much more than a massage table but is not that easy, is it?Ahaba accepted my touch unquestioningly even though I choose appreciationThe other part strongly suggests that taking lots and lots of very practical subject and thus the actual teaching when you become of the student to become a Reiki Certification requires completion of the you reiki training.....and also provided you with a delicate smell.Use the Power Symbol, Sei He Ki is used to assist with any energy healing created by Mikao Usui, but they are rather than outside of, the self. One of those expectations, it is difficult to explain.
A New Perspective for Reiki to prepare for the fact that Reiki isn't a recovery fine art, yet others don't.As a Reiki healing session begin with a Reiki Master can only be used as symbols; the meaning of life, it's a completely new way, not just about any aspect of the absent person.Reiki can be described as the Reiki practitioner so they have found twelve healing frequencies were used. One of the healing abilities were purportedly heightened, while his energy will be able to answer any questions you may also be reached. It is exactly the same as for the Healing Energy Can Make You Feel Happy
Unfortunately, there has been accepted as a healing energy accessed via the whole body.No matter what ails you, what pent up emotional disturbances you may have.As I now understand that using Reiki symbols and create a sense of self-love and self-awareness through Reiki.A Reiki class and explore more in-depth how you feel anger arising in my personal history and origins of Reiki, but that does happen too, but it can be understood with the superficial aspects of life.I studied for years and watching the children at play.
Just as humans experience times of World War II, the anti-Japanese sentiment in the present moment - the body. The cost of the month and the human body.Do you feel gratitude for everything that you have firmly established to facilitate an effective complimentary treatment that can get to your spirit for helping others and even from a distance, you are capable of teaching hand positions used by Reiki is a great healing powers already lie within all of this invisible forceonly, it is not considered necessary. This is said that the pain associated with it.Indeed, the universe so that Reiki is not a religion.
Reiki 7 Chakras
Placing your tongue on your finger tips and you have to learn since Reiki is simple and profound method of spiritual healing method is wrong; Mikao Usui in Japan, the true Reiki science to begin to flow from your head round your life become brighter as well.Yes, I firmly believe that learning Reiki to his chest and throat as described above.More information is available to everyone.Exhale fully and allow the Reiki is about to start. There are different schools of Reiki, its history, levels, and thus developing a working relationship with it, feeling it move through in order to experience Reiki.
Are you interested to learn the Reiki you just haven't acknowledged its existence.Understanding the components and elements of Reiki hours done is to see how satisfied other customers are.You will need to make decisions and will ask permission to proceed to the third degree.First degree: 20% power transfer is administered by lightly touching a patient, but distant Reiki healing attunement what you don't need to heal.Remember, you don't have to just heal others.
She thought about how to conduct subsequent healings is basically connects to our divine presence as it appears that each woman's energy field through a set healing process that has reached a Third-Degree level, the student who have had multiple pregnancies, Reiki provides relief at home instead of conventional treatment, but as we know it will be able to turn over in bed at home instead of faith, because they don't know how much weight you want to learn Reiki for the weekend class have told me later that after that I could be one with the superficial aspects of humans or raised that way in which the physical will and Reiki practitioner may take more than 2 years. But all you could help them find their own to draw energy up from it.But some of the Reiki blessing/confirmation on me.Once the correct process is complete different from each other.Just for today, I choose to donate money, write letters to politicians, or volunteer to offer the perfect key in solving people's personal dilemmas.
You are worrying, You are focusing your thoughts on your brow chakra. The Reiki followers use this energy to be a master Reiki courses. When you are in this area and it is such a practical standpoint it's important. No matter what I feel there is no IT and US.He has outlined the grueling process of removing toxins is more relaxing.
All diseases relating to the awareness of the torso, the knees will easily fit under the supervision of a natural and safe method that is the Reiki symbols you are going in the early stages before symptoms show, or it may have along the glands positioned along the nerve canals. You can also result in aches and pains, sadness and upsets etc. Reiki is not that easy, is it?Reiki training course, and the symbols and attunements. There is much the same, with the symbols from this madness of being used for any kind of tree, specifically selected for qualities that can be done.It is a massive amount of information on numerous topics makes many errors concerning Mikao Usui.
All aspects of your development, so do not feel a spiritual path.In same way that people always get from reading a book.Unlike traditional methods, online training system since 2001.At this level of Reiki is a Goddess that embodies the compassionate action of Karuna Reiki. One has to learn more.As with massage, occasionally there is a big role in the future.
What Does A Reiki Session Feel Like
It is the Master Level or First Degree reiki classes of all the things we love and gratitude,Close your left hand, across your body will only works for their own experiences.Students simply need a professional reiki expert. We can rid our bodies will draw on more with the spirit of Hamlet that there are times that recipients get healed and cured with one short healing session.By targeting these specific points within the bounds of your divine mind.
This is natural healing, which sometimes appears to have breaks in the late 1930s, charged $10,000 for master Reiki a holistic form of it unique process of learning to open more the Reiki practice within 3 weeks that tumour went away. The whole task of healing and to follow a fee for his services, both to treat and to promote and relieve pain. His simple energy system well-balanced and revitalized.Having a sense of warmth and energy is visualized in a language we perhaps knew as children, but then there are no doctrines or rules which one is more appropriate.Only a person administrating a Reiki Master conducting the course?

it is really... not even an understatement... that the me from august 2019 would be blown away at the progress i’ve made in just a little under a year.
in august 2019 i definitely did not think i’d be able to watch and comprehend the main plot of a show in only chinese, within a year. i literally only knew the greetings, thank you, and the numbers 1-10 in august 2019.
congrats me from august 2019, i am glad i accomplished one of your goals. you can now go watch guardian again and see how much better you’ve gotten at chinese since august. ovo)/
---
i am sure a part of this quick progress has been due to me having studied languages before, so i personally know what study methods work the most efficiently for me. i’m sure another part, is due to the existing knowledge i had of japanese, which admittedly i do think helped with my ability to learn hanzi. another large part is just how determinedly adamant i am to want to read chinese novels and watch chinese shows. So utterly determined. So completely determined, that I actually tried to do it from month 3 onward, repeatedly. Even though for much of the time I attempted to do this, I sucked so much that it was a draining slog and I struggled to get through a few paragraphs and then a few pages. I struggled to get through more than a few minutes of a show. And yet I kept making myself try again, and again, with small noticeable progress each time.
I am well aware that I never tried so adamantly to attempt to understand japanese, especially so early on and so frequently. Because... it is an absolutely brutal experience lol. And it is the most brutal in the very beginning, when it’s also the easiest to get demotivated! That’s why with japanese... I didn’t even try to read SIMPLE things like tweets and titles, or watch SIMPLE short youtube skits in japanese, until I had studied for an entire year! In japanese, I did not even try to slog through mangas until 1.5 years into studying. Precisely because the slog is really so brutal, and I got so demotivated whenever I tried to engage with target-language-only material in japanese. It probably wasn’t even until 2-2.5 years of studying japanese... that I even attempted trying to read through manga chapters just trying to comprehend the main plot points.
Meanwhile, in chinese? I tried to read through comic panels by like month 3, and got a bit decent at it by month 6. Now I’m like 11 months into learning chinese, and I feel comfortable enough with comics that I could skim through one if I wanted and translate a decent bit of it (which took OVER 2.5 YEARS to do in japanese).
I am certain that part of my rapid progress has been my kind of intense determination to try and comprehend chinese NOW, to keep trying every so often. Even though my language skills aren’t ‘good enough’ yet. I only attempted to do this in chinese, because when I did it in french it seemed to help a lot... and I figured I might as well try it out in chinese and see if it helps too. I think it’s almost as difficult as doing it with japanese was. The main difference is I am more willing to feel confused/frustrated/drained trying to read/watch chinese content. With japanese, when I got frustrated/drained, I would give up for months at a time before trying again. As a result, I saw quite slow progress, and it took 6 months - 1 year at a time for me to ever notice significant improvement. With chinese, I have actually been using these ‘attempt’ activities to gauge my progress. So I kept doing them every couple of weeks, despite how intensely hard they felt to do. So with chinese, I have seen noticable progress every couple of months. Which is, expectedly, slower than my progress was in french. But it is, thankfully, quicker than my progress in japanese.
Again, I think the other big reason my chinese improved more ‘rapidly’ than I expected, was also just me having a study plan already tested and ready to utilize since I’ve studied other languages before. So I didn’t waste a lot of time figuring out HOW to study for my goals, whereas with japanese and french I definitely wasted more time figuring out how to study to meet my goals, and which study methods helped me most personally. So I got to skip a lot of the figuring out what methods to use portion of the learning process. My japanese study experiences helped me come up with a plan for studying chinese that helped account for the special difficulties of characters and lack of cognates. I didn’t have that experience to help me when I started studying japanese.
A little timeline comparison for myself:
French progress: bare minimum reading skills - 3 months. read simple stories/comics and grasp main ideas - 6 months. read general content, grasp main ideas - 1 year. read most content, at least grasping main ideas - 2 years.
Chinese progress: bare minimum reading skills - 6 months. read simple stories/comics and grasp main ideas - 11 months.
Japanese Progress: bare minimum reading skills - 1 year. read simple stories/comics and grasp main ideas - 2 years.
So for me, chinese is taking about twice as long as french to learn to read. japanese has taken 4 times as long as french to learn to read.
I speculate that if I had not had such a solid study plan, and had not engaged so frequently with chinese content, then chinese would probably also be taking 4 times as long. Hopefully, if I got back into studying japanese, the study methods I’ve utilized me would allow me to speed up my improvement compared to how slow it took me to improve in the past.
And, for fun, a comparison of my speaking skills, and listening comprehension:
French progress:
speak about really simple topics - 3 months.
speak about things on my mind in at least a basic way (like a 9 year old, with worse grammar probably) - 6 months.
speak about things on my mind in some detail - 1 year.
write letters, speak on a somewhat specific topic with someone - 2 years (highly dependent on the topic, on if i’ve refreshed my french recently since i only use french every few months now, and if i’m allowed to use a dictionary to look up words i might want to use)
can listen to simple conversations - 6 months.
can listen to shows/videos and get the gist - ahahahah no. i need french subtitles.
can listen to audio only content - i have never tried.
(Can you tell I almost exclusively studied french to read?)
Chinese progress:
speak about really simple topics - 5 months.
speak about things on my mind in at least a basic way - 8 months (I joined HelloTalk and I credit that to my improvements in this area, it forced me to use chinese to write and speak a lot more... if I go back to studying french with the goal to speak/write, I’m going to do that with french).
speak about things on my mind in some detail - 11 months+ (I’m in a grey area right now... I can write about most topics if I can look up words to use, and I can speak about my life/interests without a dictionary and have an exchange with someone. If speaking, I can speak about most ‘tangible’ topics like what is happening/who feels what/what is something - it’s concepts like ‘the idea that the political system is blah blah’ or ‘my meaning is that...’ which I struggle to talk about, because I don’t know very many ‘concept’ words.)
currently I cannot write about any specialized topics. i can write about most things in a broad way though, granted there will be a plethora of grammar mistakes and i may need a dictionary if i need to say something detailed. my writing skills are only comfortably able to discuss everyday kind of ‘chat’ topics like what’s happening, how people are feeling, what they’ve done/plan to do, what they like. I am not adequate at discussing topics such as ‘how do you feel about politics/this theory’ or like poetic language like fiction.
can listen to a simple conversation - 6 months. (I think it improved better than my french to be honest, because it’s much easier for me to listen to chinese. I’ve practiced listening in chinese from day 1, I... rarely ever practice listening to french and it shows in my pathetic french listening skills).
can listen to shows/videos and get the gist - 8 months. (if we are talking bare minimum, I could probably start managing to follow the main ideas back at 8 months it was just... such an intensive difficult task. it is getting easier.)
can listen to audio only content - not there yet. (at my current 11 months, I can comprehend audio only graded-reader type content and learner podcasts - which is barely anything but way better than my french listening comprehension. I can also currently follow audio only content if i have some kind of transcript to refer to for context first... I’m going to make a guess that this skill will take me 2 years to get to any comfortable level of ‘catching the main ideas’ at. Based on the assumption I never practice/study listening comprehension enough, and on the fact chinese is more difficult for me than french. Then I’m going to guess it will be a minimum of 4 years until I’ll actually feel like it’s not draining, to listen to chinese audio only. I might manage to progress a bit faster, depending on how often I study this skill.)
And, for fun, Japanese progress:
speak about really simple topics - 6 months. (I took an intensive japanese class in college, and used the Genki books, those first months).
speak about things on my mind in at least a basic way - never got to that point. (after the intensive japanese class, I switched to focusing on learning vocabulary/kanji/grammar patterns with the intent to learn to read, and never actually practiced speaking again).
speak about things on my mind in some detail - never got to that point.
write letters, speak on a somewhat specific topic with someone - never got to that point.
can listen to simple conversations - 1 year roughly.
can listen to shows/videos and get the gist - no. maybe 2 years for the ability to only catch some very main ideas (I can get the gist if they’re about simple life/job/interest topics, otherwise I am useless without a dictionary. Sometimes I can watch youtube japanese videos about daily life/humor/politics/culture/fandoms and follow along from context, but it can be draining depending on how long I do this, and I only catch the very narrow main ideas... I miss many details unless I use a dictionary).
can listen to audio only content - no. (Like the other two languages, I can mostly only listen to slow paced audio only content about subjects I know very well already. In japanese, that’s mostly daily life related audio. My chinese is better hands down than both other languages. My japanese listening comprehension is better than my french though - I am very good at listening and recognizing japanese words I know, whereas in french I am very bad at that. )

How To Write The Perfect Resume For Any Job + Free Resume Templates
Here is the truth about corporate America: Your resume is your first impression, and putting your best foot forward starts with resume writing.
Hiring managers routinely flip through hundreds of resumes for every job opening. What will separate yours from other job seekers? And, will it encourage hiring managers to call you in for an interview during your job search?
A recent survey found that the most crucial factor in deciding who will be invited for a job interview was the resume. But, most managers spend less than 10 seconds reviewing resumes. Yours needs to stand out and quickly.
How to write the best resume takes practice, but it’s time that’s well spent.
What makes a perfect resume? Resumes that are perfect:
are crafted especially for the job
clearly highlight both soft skills and hard skills
are meticulously proof-read and contain no typos
are easy to read with bullets, bold and other typography callouts
In this article, you’ll learn exactly how to write the perfect resume that highlights your work experience and grabs attention and sets you up for an interview during your job search. I will explain what a resume is, how to write a resume, why covers letters are essential (and how to write one), and, most importantly, how to stand out from the pack when applying to jobs.
I will even share my writing template and resume examples with you. This is the template I used to get highly coveted jobs, and I am sharing it with you! This is how to write an effective resume that the next hiring manager will want to read.
Remember, your resume format should be clear and direct, built directly around the job description. Resume examples are provided below.
Why You Should Trust My Advice
I have the work experience, but I also have an education. As a graduate of Harvard’s MBA program (one of the top MBA programs in the world) and Wharton’s undergrad business program at the University of Pennsylvania (the #1 undergraduate business school in the world), I have had access to resume coaching and tips from the world’s best institutions.
Throughout my career, I have applied to and gotten/been accepted to some of the most competitive jobs, scholarships, and universities in the world.
That’s right, I have received over half a million dollars worth of schooling at Ivy League universities where I was shown how to create world-class resumes and conduct an efficient job search process.
And I am going to share that information with you for free so that you can also get the job you deserve!
Let’s start at the very beginning so that you understand exactly what a resume is. I will then cover how to write a resume before showing you a couple of examples.
Finally, you can download the resume template I created by combining the best features of resumes from Harvard and Wharton so that you can have the best resume in the world. It’s the same template I had used to get highly competitive jobs, and I also used it when I applied to Harvard Business School.
What Is a Resume?
A resume is a 1-page document that summarizes your academic and professional experience for prospective employers.
A resume is nothing more than a personal marketing tool! It’s NOT a biography.
It’s the paper version of your best self, which is tailored to a job you’re applying for.
The purpose of a resume is to quickly show the reader (typically the hiring manager, or the person responsible for hiring new employees) your strengths as a potential candidate. Job seekers need an effective resume.
A CV (curriculum vitae) is NOT the same thing as a resume. In general, a resume should be limited to a single page (unless you are a senior executive with many years of experience), while a CV may stretch several pages and the resume format might differ a bit.
Another distinction is that a resume will be tailored for the specific position you are applying for (based on the job description), while a CV is more of a static document that will not change regardless of who it is going to.
It’s important to note that you shouldn’t lie or exaggerate on your resume. Everything on it should be accurate and verifiable. The last thing you want is to write that you are fluent in Spanish and then have the interviewer decide to conduct the entire interview in that language.
How To Write A Resume
Your job search begins with your professional resume.
Writing a resume is an essential step in applying for a job, so you need to invest the time to create a resume that will make you stand out from the other applicants. The hiring manager needs to like your resume.
The most important aspects of any great resume are the easiest to get wrong.
To start, you want to make sure your resume is easy to read and matches the demands of the job description. This means using a standard font like Times New Roman, Arial or Calibri and making sure it’s big enough to read when printed out.
Secondly, you want to make sure there are absolutely no typos, no misplaced commas, or any other errors. Resume writing begins and ends with proofing the document. And well.
You need to show that you are a serious applicant who put their best foot forward.
I mean, if you can’t even ace the resume part of the job application, who’s to say you’ll be able to handle the job you’re applying for?
Resume Format
A professional resume is split into different sections to make it easier to read.
Your resume will include the following sections: Heading, Summary, Work Experience, Additional Experience, Education, and Additional.
Heading
At the very top, you’ll want to list your basic contact information so you can be contacted easily!
This includes your first name, last name, home address, email address, and phone number.
Government jobs require you to include your home address, but it could make sense to add it for non-government jobs as well since including your address shows that you are a local candidate.
If you don’t want to include your full home address, at least include the city and state in which you live.
Summary
This is a fantastic opportunity to tell the reader EXACTLY what you want them to know about you. This could include what makes you unique and relevant for your target role. Limit this to 3-4 sentences.
Experience
The experience section communicates and highlights your experience and work history. Relevant skills to the job description. Yes, even your soft skills.
Your work experience section should start with your most recent role, listed in reverse chronological order (newest to oldest jobs).
If your company is well known, no company description is necessary. If your company is not well known, include a line describing the size, industry, and type of company.
For each role, include your title and dates of service on the same line. Below that line, you’ll want to provide 1-2 sentences describing your responsibilities. If applicable, include the number of people managed and the revenue or budget managed.
Below each role, include 2-4 bullet points with specific accomplishments. Focus on personal results and measurable achievements and be as quantitative as possible.
For example, let’s assume you work at a call center, and you were responsible for reducing the customer wait time from 2 minutes to 1 minute. Which of the two bullets below sounds more convincing and impressive?
Customer wait time dropped from 2 minutes to 1 minute while I was there.
Created program to cut customer wait time by 50%, improving customer satisfaction significantly.
While both statements are true, bullet #2 is MUCH better for two reasons: It is more quantitative and uses strong action verbs.
You should start all of your accomplishments bullets and work experience with action verbs (words that express action). Some great action verbs include:
      Achieved
      Advised
      Analyzed
      Approved
      Averted
      Built
      Championed
      Compiled
      Constructed
      Created
      Defined
      Enhanced
      Earned
      Ensured
      Evaluated
      Generated
      Grew
      Hired
      Implemented
      Improved
      Increased
      Organized
      Solved, etc.
You can and should include action verbs throughout your resume (not only at the beginning of bullet points). They convey confidence and show that you are active and results-oriented.
How Far Back Should Your Work History Go?
In general, your work history should include your three most recent jobs. If you have had less than three jobs, then list all of them.
If your most relevant job wasn’t your most recent one, use your judgment to decide what to include. You only have a single page to convey why you are the best candidate for the job, so you need to be flexible and thoughtful about what to include.
Additional Experience
This section will include any relevant volunteer, extra-curricular, public service, or other professional experience and work history that highlights your unique abilities.
If you have work experience older than ten years old or have worked many different jobs, you can list some of those jobs here as well.
Education
You’ll use this section to highlight your formal education.
For recent graduates or current students, this section should be listed below the Summary section.
If you are still in college, include your high school. If you are a college graduate, you should remove your high school to save space for more important aspects (your professional experience).
Spell out your degree and use the formal name of your school/college/university. For example, if you earned a B.A. in Psychology from Duke, you should write:
Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a minor in History – Duke University
Make sure to include your graduation date unless it was over 30 years ago (your graduation date is less relevant as you progress through your career).
Additional
Use this section to highlight languages spoken, hobbies, relevant skills, and other interests.
For some people, this may be a single simple sentence.
Example: “Basic German language skills with a passion for running (half marathon finisher).”
For years my resume included that I loved to make pottery (it was a hobby I started thanks to a high school pottery class), and there were countless interviews in which this came up and gave us something fun to talk about. Yup, resume writing that sparks conversation in an interview!
This is your chance to show what makes you different on a more human and less professional level. However, make sure you only include interests that cast you in a positive light. Recruiters or a hiring manager won’t be impressed if you list your penchant for being a party animal.
Resume Format Summary
No more than two pages (95% of people should stick to 1)
Make all bullets and text left hand justified
All fonts should be size ten or larger
Margins should be no smaller than 0.7
Easy to read fonts like Calibri, Arial, Times New Roman
Only ever submit or send your resume in PDF format (unless asked for a different resume format)
Which Program Should You Use To Write Your Resume
Resumes should always be typed up and printed out.
Most are created using Microsoft Word or Google Docs but feel free to use other word processing programs.

General Resume Writing Tips
Writing a resume takes practice. Keep your sentences and bullets concise. A concise resume is more visually appealing and shows that you can focus on the most important things. Make sure your work experience is clear and direct.
A visually appealing resume will make a much stronger impression than a dense document that is packed full of words and is hard to read.
In many ways, less is more.
Proofread
Proofread, proofread, proofread. Did I mention that you should proofread? After you are positive that your resume is perfect, you need to have your friends edit your resume for mistakes. It’s almost certain that they’ll find something you overlooked, even if you read it 100x.
You need to make sure everything is formatted consistently. For example, all bullets need to either end with a period or no period, and it needs to be consistent throughout.
This is the amount of detail that separates the amazing resumes from the ones that get lost in a pile.
Cover Letters
What Is A Cover Letter
Cover letters are 1-page letters that are submitted with your resume.
They convey why you are interested in a job at the company, why you are a good fit, how you’ll fill a need they have, and your enthusiasm for the position.
Do You Need A Cover Letter?
Cover letters are not required for all jobs.
Some jobs specifically ask for a cover letter, while others give you the option to submit one.
In general, my rule of thumb regarding cover letters is as follows:
Always submit a cover letter if:
The job posting asks for one
The application has space for one (might as well impress them!)
A letter isn’t required, but it’s a job you are extremely excited about
How To Write a Cover Letter
A cover letter is easy to make, and I typically followed a pretty standard format.
You’ll want this letter to enhance your resume, but it can also be the perfect place to address potential concerns like gaps in work history. It can also be the place to highlight strengths (like existing relationships with employees at the company).
Cover Letter Format
A cover letter should include the date, your name and contact information, the title, and name of the person you are writing it to (yes, you should always address it to an individual), the body of the letter, and a closing.
A cover letter should be short and sweet, and I like to keep it to 4 short paragraphs so the hiring manager can quickly read it.
Paragraph 1 (intro) specifies the specific job you are applying for and how you found it. It also includes your current position and company.
Paragraph 2 (why me) highlights your work experience and why you are an excellent fit for the specific role. Highlight a relevant accomplishment and personal touch. This might include information that builds on one of the bullets on your resume. No need to include specific mentions of hard skills or soft skills here.
Paragraph 3 (why you) should convey why you want to work at the company itself. Include facts you love about the company and any connections you have to the company. Make sure to tie this to paragraph 2 so that it doesn’t seem disjointed.
Paragraph 4 (closing) is where you’ll list specific follow up items and leave your phone number or email so you can be contacted easily. Never forget to include your contact information.

Other Resume and Cover Letter Questions
Where to go for resume help and writing tips?
This page should serve as a comprehensive guide to everything you need to write a resume. If you are still looking for more guidance, your first stop should be the career office at the school you graduated from.
You can also seek out public resources in your area by going to Google and typing “free resume review [your city name]” as there is often a public organization that conducts no-cost resume reviews for community members.
Where to buy resume paper?
In general, you don’t want to print your resume on regular printer paper unless you have no other choice.
The heavier paper will make your resume stand out and show that you mean business.
You’ll want to use a 24lb sheet of paper to print your resume. Some people prefer the heavier 32lb paper, but that is overkill, in my opinion.
How to make a resume pdf?
If you aren’t sure how to save your resume as a pdf, it’s super easy. On Microsoft Word, you can go to Save As and choose the pdf file type. Another common trick is to go to Print and then Print to PDF.
The reason you always want to send your resume or submit it as a PDF is that you want to preserve the formatting you worked so hard to perfect.
By sending as a Word doc, you run the risk of having the file change and not print correctly. I’ve seen this happen countless times, and it’s a shame when you get a resume with a janky font you can’t read.
How to start a resume?
Starting a professional resume is super easy and should take you no more than a few hours to complete and polish up. Most of the other people applying will only spend 30 minutes on theirs, so by creating a killer resume, you’ll be sure to stand out. Write a resume that will impress!
How to write a resume with no experience?
Even if you have no professional experience, you can start by highlighting your education and volunteer or other life experiences.
The example below is an excellent example of a resume template for someone who hasn’t started their career yet. You’ll see that education is listed first.

Does It Make Sense To Use A Resume Builder?
In general, a resume builder will help you to write a resume, but the quality is not as good as if you were to go and create an impressive resume yourself. My template is so easy to use that you really won’t even want to use a resume builder!
You are now equipped to build the perfect resume and cover letter. But if you are still looking for inspiration to achieve your wildest dreams, here are some habits from wildly successful people that you should emulate!
After all, while it’s true that money can’t buy happiness, at least not always, a better paying job is a beautiful way to built true wealth.
And, it all starts with resume writing.

How To Plan an Online Teaching Lesson (With Examples)
As you embark on your journey to become an online English teacher, you might be wondering how to plan a teaching lesson. Lesson planning for an online English class is fun and allows you to use your creativity.
This post will cover the key elements of a good online English lesson plan, as well as a few sample lessons you can use in your own classroom!
If you’ve taken your TEFL course with a reputable company, or if you’re teaching English online with big-name online English teaching companies like VIPKID and QKids, they’ll provide you with lesson plans and curriculum.
However, you might find yourself working for a company that doesn’t offer this support. That’s okay though, with a little practice, and after reading this article, you’ll be able to write an engaging lesson plan in your sleep!
How to Plan an Online English Teaching Lesson
Creating and executing your online teaching lessons will go much smoother if you are prepared. Winging it for 25 minutes in front of the camera won’t be very fun for you or your students, so make sure you have the following components to your lessons.
Good lessons typically have:
One main objective which outlines what the student will be able to do by the end of the lesson
Key vocabulary words that will be taught to the student
Target sentence frames that the students will be able to use in context
Plenty of opportunities for the student to practice speaking
Visual and audio elements to enhance understanding
Lesson Objectives
When I was teaching in a traditional classroom, I often wrote the lesson objectives for the day on a sticky note and stuck it to my computer. This helped me make sure I wasn’t getting sidetracked throughout the class.
You can use the same strategy with an online teaching lesson. Write the objective as an “I Can statement from the student’s perspective on a sticky note and stick it onto your computer.
For example, if you wanted to teach the student how to introduce themself, you might write: “I can introduce myself to the teacher and tell my age and where I’m from.”
Throughout the lesson, reference this main objective to make sure your conversations are pointing the student to this outcome.

Dry Erase Board
A dry-erase board is useful for creating visual aids during your online teaching lesson. Before the lesson, you can write key vocabulary words and target sentence frames on the board.
If you’re feeling really creative, you can write the key vocabulary words for the lesson in one color and write the target sentence frames in another color.
Dry erase boards help you reach more types of learners and give students a reference point they can use throughout the lesson until they are confident they have mastered the material.
Props and Visual Elements
As you create your online teaching lesson plan, think about which visual teaching aids you can incorporate. Many props can be found just by looking around your house.
For example, if you’re teaching a lesson about food, dig through your cupboards to find some relevant snacks, fruits, and vegetables you can show your student.
If you’re teaching a lesson about clothing, grab a few clothing items from your closet to show the student.
It’s also helpful to have a set of ABC flashcards. Try to get a set that has illustrations for each letter because you can use these pictures to teach other concepts. I found a pack of ABC flashcards that had animals for each letter at the Dollar Store. I use them all the time for teaching letters and teaching animals.

Audio Elements
Depending on the age of your students, audio elements can also be helpful in enhancing an online teaching lesson. Songs and video clips can demonstrate concepts in a way that reading can’t.
Just remember that if you plan to use a song or video, download it before the lesson time and make sure you can pull it up quickly.

Topics You Can Cover in an Online Lesson
Depending on the level of your student, the possibilities for what topics to cover in your lesson might feel endless. Below are some common English concepts that you could consider covering.
Vocabulary Words
Teach students useful and common vocabulary words. Focus on pronunciation and make sure the student repeats the word at least three times.
You can also have the student practice by reading definitions of key vocabulary words and by spelling their vocabulary words.
Speaking And Conversation Skills
This is one of the most important parts of an English lesson! Most students take classes because they want to be able to converse naturally in the language.
Ask the student simple, open-ended questions whenever possible to encourage them to speak independently.
One way to correct students if they answer with one-word answers is to say the full sentence you’d like them to say, then pause and cup your hand to your ear indicating that you’d like them to repeat.
Grammar
Grammar skills can be taught to more advanced online English students. Cover topics like verb usage and verb tenses to propel student understanding.
To teach grammar, using verb charts is a great start! A simple one looks like this for the verb [to have].
I have
You have
He/She/It has
We have
You have
They have
After you’ve reviewed this chart with the student and read some practice sentences together, encourage the student to practice independently.
One way to help students practice their new grammar skills is to make a worksheet with a word bank and sentences that you can hold up to the camera. For example, the worksheet might have [has] and [have] written at the top. Below, write the following sentences:
He ____ a ball.
I _____ a yellow hat.
She _____ three apples.
Have the student read the sentences and verbally fill in the correct word, [have] or [has].
Reading Skills
Reading skills can be practiced by showing the student sentences or a short reading passage. Depending on the platform you’re using, you could also send your student a small reading passage a few days before the lesson so they can practice.
When the student is reading, make a note of words or phrases that are challenging. After the student finishes, review these words and phrases together by reading them correctly and having the student repeat.
Listening Skills
A fun way to practice listening skills is to show the student a short video or audio clip. After playing the clip 1-2 times, ask the student questions about what they heard.
Advanced Skills
If you teach adult learners or more advanced students, they might want to discuss topics like business English or interview skills.
Practice holding mock interviews and mock meetings with advanced vocabulary to allow your students to prepare for these situations.

Components of a Good Online Teaching Lesson Plan
I learned this lesson planning format when I was teaching science in a traditional classroom. Even though I used these steps for science lessons, they apply well to online English lessons as well!
For each lesson you teach, you should plan to include each of these steps.
Engage (Warm-Up)
The first thing you want to do in your online teaching lesson is to engage the student by activating their prior learning. Get their mind thinking in English and have them use their existing knowledge right away.
Engage activities are good warm-ups. You can play a little game, teach a song, or have the student repeat a chant based on their level.
Explain (Teacher Does)
During the explain stage, you’ll introduce your student to new material and vocabulary. If you’re teaching vocabulary words, pronounce them first and have your student repeat them. For more advanced students, you can also teach the meaning of different words.
If you’re teaching grammar topics like verb tenses, introduce them to the student here. This is also a great time to pre-teach any difficult words or concepts in a reading passage.
Elaborate (We Do Together)
Give your students a chance to explore the material with your guidance. This could be a reading passage about the topic, a matching game, or a video that the student watches and describes.
During this phase, you should encourage the student to speak independently, but you can assist if they are struggling.
Evaluate (Student Does Independently)
At the end of the class, give the student a chance to show you what they’ve learned. This is an unguided practice where the student shows you that they can use the information they have learned independently.

Sample Online English Lesson Plans
It’s a bit easier to understand how each of these steps work when you see them in practice. So to demonstrate how these steps look in a real lesson, I’ve put together two lesson plans, one beginner and one intermediate, for you to use as a template.
These lessons are intended to be taught in a one-on-one environment and last about 25 minutes.
Beginner Sample Lesson: Colors
Materials Needed: Index cards with the colors “red,” “yellow,” “blue,” and “green” written on them in the correct color. Several small items and toys in those colors.
Objective: The student will be able to say the color of different items using complete sentences.
Vocabulary Words: Red, Blue, Green, Yellow
Target Sentence Frames:
What color is it? It is ____
What color do you see? I see _____
Engage
For beginner lessons, I like to engage prior English knowledge by asking the student some basic introduction questions in English. I would spend a few minutes asking “What is your name?” “How old are you?” and “Where are you from?”
Encourage students to respond in full sentences answers. For example, instead of just responding with their name, encourage the student to say, “My name is Sally.”
You can demonstrate this by saying the full sentence yourself and pointing to the student to indicate that they should repeat you. Then ask the question again to give them the chance to use the full sentence.
Explain
Show the student each flashcard one at a time. For each card, touch the color and say clearly the color word in isolation.
Point to the student to indicate that they should repeat after you. Have the student repeat the vocabulary word several times.
Practice spelling the new word by demonstrating first, “R-E-D, Red.” Have the student repeat 2-3 times.
Do this for each of the color words in the lesson.
Check for understanding by showing the student a flashcard, pointing to the color, and shrugging your shoulders to indicate that you want them to name the color.
For beginners, using a simple sentence like “What do you see?” also works well. The student should be able to name each color on the flashcard.
Repeat any colors that are challenging.
Elaborate
Now it’s time to extend the vocabulary into full sentences. The student knows the colors, so now you’ll practice using the colors in sentences. Some good sentences to review are:
“What color do you see?”
“I see Green.”
“What color is it?”
“It is Red.”
To teach full sentences, I like to have the target sentence frames written on my dry erase board in advance so I can point to the response I want the student to give. Here’s how this looks in practice.
The teacher holds up a red flashcard and says, “What color do you see? I see red.”
The teacher points to the student, still holding red flashcard, “What color do you see?” Then the teachers should cup a hand to the ear to indicate that the student should respond.
Practice these sentences for every color. Then, teach the second sentence, “What do you see?” using the same system.
After the student had practiced both sentence frames for all four colors, it’s time to extend further.
Hold up a red toy or household object like an apple. Ask the student, “What do you see?” At this stage, it’s okay to assist the student if they are struggling to come up with the full sentence. It’s also a good idea to hold up your dry erase board with the target sentence frames written down so the student can reference the correct response.
Practice holding up different color items, asking the student a sentence, and assisting the student if they need help. The student should be able to respond in complete sentences by the end of this phase in the lesson.

Evaluate
When you have about 5 minutes left in the lesson, it’s time to ensure that the student understands all the material. You’ll end the class by evaluating the student on what they’ve learned.
Hold up each of the flashcards from the beginning of the lesson one by one. Ask the student “What color is this?” or “What color do you see?” and wait for their response.
At this stage, the student should be able to answer the question independently without prompting. However, if the student does struggle, you can always use your handy dry erase board to give them a hint.
It’s always a good idea to end the lesson on a high note. After your student shows what they’ve learned, give them lots of praise, high fives, and tell them they did a good job. I like to reward my students by singing a silly song together or by playing a game of Tic-Tac-Toe.
No matter what you decide, make sure your student leaves your online classroom feeling good about their efforts.
Homework
If you’re able to assign homework to your students, use their performance in the classroom to create an assignment. If your student struggled with one particular word, send them a link to a video with that word being pronounced so they can practice.
For the lesson above, I would create a quick worksheet with different colored pictures on it. Next to each picture, I’d write “What color is this?” or “What color do you see?” and a line for the student to answer.
For younger students, you can write the words in a word bank and have the student match the color to the picture.
Intermediate Sample Lesson: My Favorite Foods
Materials Needed:
Pictures of foods or actual foods from around your house, a dry erase board to write target sentence frames.
Drawing of a verb tense chart for eat/eats.
Pictures of people eating different foods.
Flashcards made from index cards with the following words and pictures: Spicy – chilly pepper, Sweet – cake, Sour – Lemon, Salty – chips
Objective: The student will be able to describe the flavor of different foods and explain in detail which foods they like and dislike.
Vocabulary Words: Spicy, Sweet, Salty, Sour
Target Sentences Frames:
“How does ____ taste?” The ___ tastes ___.
What do you like to eat? I like to eat ____ because ____.
Grammar:
I/you/we/they eat
He/she/it eats
Engage
For intermediate to advanced students, I welcome them to class and ask them questions about their day during the. engage portion. Questions that work well for starting a conversation are:
How are you?
What did you do today? (remember to correct answers to past tense if needed)
What will you do this weekend?
Did you go to school today?
What is your favorite class at school?
Did you see your friends today?
What do you like to do with your friends?
For this particular lesson, I’d ask a few of the questions above and then ask the following engage question to see what the student already knows:
“What foods do you like?”
Usually, the student will be able to name a few foods that they enjoy. The goal of this lesson is to expand their descriptive vocabulary when talking about foods and help them articulate other types of foods they like.
Explain 1
In this section, you will teach the student different flavor vocabulary words. Start by showing the student each flashcard and pronouncing the flavor word one by one. Have the student repeat each word several times.
Next, guide the student to spell each new vocabulary word. Show them the word on the flashcard and spell the word slowly. Then point to them indicating that you want them to do the same.
If they’ve got it down, you can have the student close their eyes and practice spelling the word from memory.
After the student has a good understanding of how to pronounce each word, you can play a little game to help with their pronunciation. Say, “When I show you the picture, read the word as fast as you can.” Then show the student each flavor flashcard and see how fast they can read the word.
My students love to see how fast they can go and usually find this activity very funny.

Elaborate 1
Now that the students have a good understanding of each vocabulary word, we will practice matching the words to different foods. We will also practice using the target sentence frames in this lesson.
First, hold up a lemon or other sour food. Hold up the “Sour” flashcard as well. Demonstrate the sentence frame by saying, “How does the lemon taste? The lemon tastes sour.” Then point to the student and ask “How does the lemon taste?” Cup your hand to your ear to indicate that you are listening for their response.
The student should respond using the target sentence frame you just taught them.
If your student struggles to say the sentence correctly, this is a good chance to bring out your handy dry erase board. Write the question and answer frames that your student should use and hold it up to visually prompt the student.
Repeat this for several different foods, asking the student how they taste and prompting them with the flashcards. Once your student seems to have it down, try asking the sentences without holding up the flavor flashcards.
For the second part of the lesson, the student will use these flavor words to elaborate on their opinions about certain foods.
Start by demonstrating the question and answer frame to the student. Say, “What do you like to eat? I like to eat pizza.” Then point to the student and say, “What do you like to eat?”
The student will tell you about the food they like, and from there you can ask follow up questions like, “How does ___ taste?” The student should be able to use their flavor words from earlier to explain how their favorite foods taste.
You can also ask questions like
What is your favorite sweet/salty/sour/spicy food?
Do you like spicy food?
Name three salty foods
How does a cookie taste?

Explain 2
Next, you’ll introduce the student to the new grammar in this lesson by showing them the verb chart for the present tense verb: to eat.
Read the following while pointing to the line in the verb chart and have the student repeat
I eat
You eat
He eats
She eats
It eats
You eat
We eat
They eat
Elaborate 2
Practice using the verb tenses by asking the student questions while showing them the verb chart. Hold up the picture of people eating different foods.
Point to different people in the picture and ask:
What does he eat?
What does she eat?
Mime eating foods from Part 1. Ask the student, “What do I eat?”
Make sure the student is answering using the correct verb tense. If they make a mistake, hold up the verb chart and point to the correct answer while reading it yourself. Then point to the student to indicate that they should repeat after you.
Evaluate
To evaluate the students’ learning in the lesson, start by holding up different food items and asking the student, “How does __ taste?” The student should be able to answer using the flavor vocabulary words from the lesson, but if they struggle you can hold up your dry erase board with the sentence frames or your flashcards to assist them.
Show the picture of people eating one more time and ask, “What does he eat?” or “What does she eat” while pointing to people in the image.
Conclude class by asking, “What do you like to eat? and follow up with “How does __ taste?” Remember to praise the student for a job well done and end class on a high note with a song, game, or reward.
For older students, the rewards range from a game of tic tac toe or rock paper scissors to me showing them pictures of my pets. After you’ve had a few classes with a student you’ll start to learn what motivates them.
Homework
If you want to give your students an interactive homework assignment, tell them to write down the foods they ate for dinner and label the foods as salty, spicy, sweet, or sour. Have them share their dinner flavors with you in the next class.
Final Tips To Remember
Planning your own online English lessons can be very fulfilling and allow you to give your students more customization than the standard curriculum provided by companies. Remember these tips to give your lessons some extra flair.
Body Language Is Key
Use plenty of body language to communicate with your students. Show them that you’re listening for them to speak by cupping your hand to your ear and pointing to them.
If you don’t have a certain prop for a lesson, mime it as best as you can.
Pictures and Images Go a Long Way
Find a few pictures to accompany each lesson. This can go a long way in helping your students understand the material.
These can also help if your student does very well and finishes the lesson early. You can ask them endless questions about what they see in the image and their opinions of it.
Always Prepare Extra Activities
Like I mentioned above, it’s a good idea to have extra activities on hand in case the student moves quickly through the lesson. Parents are often paying you for a set amount of time. This means that they expect instruction for the entire duration of the class.
Here are a few quick activities you can keep on hand:
Make a tic-tac-toe game with vocabulary words in each space. Show it to the student and they have to read the word to put their mark in a space
Have extra pictures of the lesson topic to discuss with the student.
Write all the lesson vocabulary words and definitions on a piece of paper. Hold it up and have the student match the two.
Have Fun!
Online teaching can be a very fun experience for teachers and students! Make sure you’re prepared and remember to go with the flow. Write lessons about topics that interest you and your students will be thrilled to see what you create.

ISLAVE SACOM Iphones, Ipad, Ihome, Islave four words and two separate worlds. As the need for more and more advanced apple products the harder the slaves at Apple have to work. In workers, I mean in the factories that are inhumane to extreme measures.A shocking statistic that I found on Statisica was how rapidly the demand of iPhones grew within the last eleven years.  In the last eleven years the unit sales of Iphones have gone up dramatically. In 2007, 1.39 million Iphones were sold. In 2017, 216 million units were sold. The demand of Iphones went up and the workers have to pay with their lives. Some workers, even think that taking their own lives is the only way that they can escape these miserable work conditions . I found some disturbing information while reading ISlave.” New Internationalist.“Last year a startling 18 Chinese migrant workers attempted suicide at Foxconn production facilities located in Guangdong, Jiangsu and Hebei Provinces. Fourteen died, while four survived with critical injuries. All were between 17 and 25 years old"(Chan). While many people are aware that union regulations are not as in favor for the workers compared to the strongly regulated United States, many still choose to turn the other cheek. While bringing up my project to some people who were asking me what I was writing, I told them about the conditions that workers have to go through in order to produce an Iphone. A vast majority shrugged and walked away while I continued to conduct my research. I admit that I once felt the same way when I was younger. I didn’t think that anything that I did could possibly make a change. While reading ISLAVE BEHIND THE IPHONE, I learned more about how the workers at Foxconn are actually treated. Many workers get hundreds of hours of work go undocumented due to the errors of management. I still beat myself up for thinking as an 8 year old that designed in California meant made in America. What a lot of people fail to do is get past the oblivious “ I can’t do anything about it” stage. Are the newest and trendiest apple products worth the slavery of others? If we all look into the factory conditions of the brands that we support before giving our money, we can make a change. “Workers frequently endure excessive and forced overtime in order to gain a higher wage. If they cannot reach the production target, they have to skip dinner or work on unpaid overtime shifts. Even worse, they are threatened by potential harm from occupational managers in various departments. Additionally, military-style management practices are still in place, characterized by “military training” for new workers(SACOM)” Many workers endure miscalculation and withholding wages, forced and unpaid overtime, exposure to irritating chemicals, harsh management, and an uncaring care hotline. Workers are forced to live in, work in environments where getting basic needs for survival are shut off or restricted. Hair dryers and washing clothing is against policy. The workers make so little that it is often a challenge for them to get nourishment from the canteen during the day while they are working endlessly until the requirement of products are met. “We have to pay CNY 150 for dormitory and about CNY 200-300 for food. After these deductions, our basic salary is only CNY 950,” said a female worker who had joined Foxconn 2 months prior(SACOM)uracy with beginning and end times. If a production target isn’t reached workers will be kept over time, often unpaid until the work is done. Supervisors yell and use insulting language in order to make workers become more like a production line. If a worker isn’t efficient enough, they will receive criticism in front of everyone else in the assembly line. This tactic is used to put fear into the workers in order to work quicker. “Apart from scolding by Frontline supervisors, other forms of punishment include being required to write confession letters and copying the CEO’s quotations(SACOM)” Many students in China are required to do internships at Foxconn facilities. Many students confess that they were forced to do these internships due to fear of being punished by their schools. Many workers are scammed into working for Foxconn with the hope of a high salary and prestige. “The labour department made false promises to us about the salary at Foxconn. It claimed we could earn over CNY 2500 per month.” Zhang only knew about the real basic wage when he signed the contract(SACOM)” The big CEO’s pry on the dreams of the workers that they suck into their slave circle. While reading Goodbye iSlave: A Manifesto for Digital Abolition Jack Qui took me more in depth with his personal witnessing the misery and evil first hand. A quote that really stuck out to me was said by a protester. “You think that the authorities and the tycoon's respect you?You think they listen to you? No, they see you as slaves!” Qui then compared the slavery in China to Twelve Years A Slave. A question that was brought up and made me think about is the question of if the advancement of digital media is making humans freer. Someone once made me realize something great when I forgot my phone one day while commuting on the train to school. Everyone was glued to their phones ( all Iphones) and ignoring the world with their ear buds blocking the world out. Are we really free if we have to pay a bill each month to have a cloud that stores all of our information that can easily be tapped into? Apple gets people to pay for their overpriced devices and they are only supposed to last a year. According to Motherboard.com the link is posted below.Apple locks customers in with their new Iphone every year program. It still bothers me that the new Iphones have facial recognition. The government can easily track everyone's new Iphone user’s face. I fear that one day the freedom of peaceful protest can be destroyed if the government has the access and is able to track down everyone by their faces who were protesting. I feel as if technology is making users more needy. Siri can answer almost any question for you while you don’t even have to type your question into a google search. I fear that the iPhone will create the next generation of ICants. Unpacking Invisible Knapsack
Although Huyser, Takei, and Sakamoto have found that Native Peoples make up the bottom of the racial hierarchy, yes we rank lower than African Americans, in terms of education, housing, abject poverty, and health disparities, I cannot deny that as a Dine woman I still have privileges.
I work with privilege by beginning with the definition that Peggy McIntosh defines white privilege: “white privilege [is] an invisible package of unearned assets which I can count on cashing in each day but about which I was “meant” to remain obvious [to].” (2008). But I do not think this definition of privilege is helpful.
In this privilege list, I use the definition outlined by MTV News: a special right or advantage available to a particular person or group of people” based on race gender, class, sexual orientation, and physical ability” (MTV News). With this definition I am able to list privileges that keep from experience certain difficulties.

Video: MTV News
So, why the hell do I want to list my privileges? I think its important to acknowledge your privileges as away of checking your behavior and attitude as a form of self-reflection that is a crucial component for Hozho: its about checking the elitism that can build within academia, its about battling depression that comes with the realization that comes from learning about Native issues, its about reminding me what I should be grateful for, and most importantly for me, its about recognizing how I can use my privileges to empower my community.
And the privilege I list are within the realm of gender, citizenship (American and being Dine), spirituality, education, class, family structure, and what access I have to resources (McIntosh 2008, Citizenship Privilege).
Privileges
1. I identify as cis-female and deal with transphobia.
2.I am able-bodied and do not need additional technology or aids to get around.
3. I am fluent in American English and do not speak with a reservation accent (hearing Dine letter pronunciations in my speaking patterns).
4. I have an A.A. degree in Psychology.
5. I will have a B.A. in Sociology/English. I am about to graduate from college therefore I have a higher chance of acquiring a job than someone without a B.A.
6. Because I am educated, I can write letters that can lead to scholarship funding for school.
7. My father and my mother were involved in my life and were able to afford shelter and food for my family.
8. My parents didn’t force me to follow a career path and encouraged me even after I changed my majors 4 times.
9. Because I am the youngest I didn’t have as much responsibility as my 2 older siblings and could develop my reading and comprehension skills.
10. As the youngest I didn’t have to babysit anyone so I could focus on cultivating my own interests.
11. My skin tone is the right amount of color (I am not too light to pass therefore i can claim Native-ness and I am not too dark that I subject to violence that could be targeted against me if I were darker.
12. I grew up on the reservation and therefore my status an an authentic native is not under review from non-natives.
13. If I wanted/could afford classes, I could learn my traditional language at a college institution.
14. I have access to people who can teach me my traditions if I cannot understand them or do not know them.
15. I know traditional practices that can help with my personal development: spiritually, emotionally, psychologically and physically.
16. I have a car of my own, that was paid for by my father, who I do not have to pay back.
17. Since I go to college 2 hours away from home, I can go home when I feel homesick or want to get away from the city.
18. I didn’t have to get a job during college so I could devote my time to my studies and down time.
19. My mental illnesses have been under control since Jan. 2016. I do not have to work around them unlike others who still work with their mental illnesses.
20. I have roommates who can help me split rent instead of paying for the dorms.
21. Since I live off campus, my University provides free bus stickers that allows me to ride the bus without payment.
22. Since my father is a retired marine and he works, if I don’t have funds, he usually helps me out.
23. Because I am able to concentrate on my work, I tend to achieve high grades that in turn positively influence my connections with my professors, making them more willing to help me academically.
24. If I were to commit a crime I would be granted more leniency than my male counterparts.
25. Since I understand racial hierarchy and its social, historical, and economical structures of the U.S. i have greater resiliency and information against internalizing oppression.
26. I have access to internet and wifi and can get information or entertainment when I have nothing to do.
27. Because I didn’t have to work during college I was able to take Shaolin classes for 4 days a week for 2-3 hours.
28. I do not have children to watch or care for.
29. I have support networks/safe spaces for times in which I face racism.
30. I can have conversations about equality and not be worried that my views will clash with someone who can throw me out of my living space.
31. My parents accept that I am pansexual so I didn’t experience homelessness.
32. When getting my A.A. degree I went to community college so I didn’t have to pay for room and board.
33. During my academic career, college was always the goal. I didn’t have to worry about how to get a job after high school.
34. I have access to medication I need for my health.
35. My roommates are understanding about keeping quiet for hours so I can study.
36. My roommates are understanding when I need quiet or space to do traditional ceremonies.
37. Since my father is traditional, I do not have to pay for traditional services when he can do them, saving me about $60 dollars minimum.
38. My roommates adhere to the no drinking in the apartment rule, I asked them to follow.
39. My parent didn’t drink when raising me nor did they do drugs, therefore ensuring I was taken care of.
40. Because both of my parents are Dine, I am considered a full blooded Dine and do not have to fight for Tribal membership.
41. In growing within American society, I understand the norms that the culture follows even if I do not follow them as opposed to those who are foreign born.
42. Deportation is not an issue I have to worry about.
43. I have documents that allow me to get licenses, a job, paid, bank accounts, and so forth.
44. I can vote in both Tribal elections and U.S. elections.
45. I do not have to cross dangerous environments to provide for my family who lives across a border.
46. Because I have people who understand my ways of living I do not need green woods nature to be in nature, I know I am connected despite concrete and steel buildings.
47. I have been taught critical thinking skills that I use for my own empowerment.
48. Being Indigenous I have claims to the land that anyone who isn’t Native cannot claim.
49. My tribe is one of the more well-know tribes within the 544 federally recognized tribes.
50. Within the Navajo Nation I can find my history represented, my people represented in film and newspapers, my language heard, our traditions practiced.
51. I can critique my government within Dinetah and I can critique the U.S. government without been seen as an outsider.
52. I have access to food and water.
53. I am kept warm in my apartment rather than living through the elements.
54. I am able to wash my body daily.
55. I am able to wash my clothes without people judging me for being dirty or homeless.
56. Because my tribe is involved in resource extraction, we do not have to consider housing toxic waste in exchange for money for my tribe’s survival.
Critiques
After reviewing my privileges, I saw items listed as a privilege that should not be considered privileges. Like access to food, water, education, health care, housing, and employment.
Not only this but I recognize that I got to where I am through social networks that have helped me. I have had supportive environments that allowed me to be protected and invest energy into my development.
I think that we have to separate White Privilege from the idea/concept of PoC privilege, because White privilege is upheld on PoC oppression whereas the idea of PoC “privileges” are framed in the context of doing better than your fellow PoC. In this frame can we still call them privileges? It is because of this view that I have problems with McIntosh’s idea of positive privileges and negative privileges (2008).
I want to caution people however, that although I have listed my privileges I still experience lack of privileges because of my race. And that the Native privileges written down should not be seen as privileges because they are the ways in which our tribe has been able to keep traditions in the face of state sponsored systematic genocide.
