not gonna lie by the intro i was like “…can’t wait for the subtle messaging we’re about to get here lol” another old man commentary on social media and youth but wow. that was the essence of doctor who in the context of our world in 2024. because that’s so rare isn’t it? the doctor being willing to help someone, dreadful as they are, only for them to refuse. and just because he’s different than them!! groupthink and alienating outsiders is something so ingrained in their culture to the point that when someone gives a helping hand they would rather be delusional and stick to what’s comfortable. that’s fucking nuance. that’s something i can identify with, more than just “social media bad”

So my pov character doesn't emote alot, which I'm basing on how I don't actually emote much either but I'm having a bit of trouble actually showing that he's scared, upset, excited etc etc even if it's subtle lol

There are three options for showing character emotions that don't involve facial expressions or openly showing emotion:

1 - Thought - You can explore a character's emotions through their thoughts. For example, your character could think:

I kept my face impassive--somehow managed to keep my hands from trembling--but I'd never been more afraid than I was in that moment.

2 - Internal Sensation - Every emotion has its own set of internal cues that go with them, so you can show emotion by exploring which of these internal sensations your character is experiencing:

My heart thudded a chaotic beat in my chest, and a cold sweat broke out on my forehead. Fear slithered down my spine like a venomous snake.

3 - Body Language - Even if your character doesn't intentionally emote, body language is something that can be harder for a lot of people to mask. Swallowing nervously, taking a long step back, tight shoulders, rigid jaw set... in context of the situation, along with either thought or internal cues, body language can tell us a lot about what a character is feeling. These can also illustrate your character's feelings to other characters as well.

disaster ramble about my headcanons for how the batch got their names & etc*

*this is related to a fic of mine (fluorescent mistakes/mistakesverse), tho having read it is 100% unnecessary to understand the post, and I'll likely use some of these for other fics as well.

the only HCs you (sort of) "need" to know is cody, fox, and wolffe are "triplets", and i say fuck canon and Rex is 3 years (1.5 years) younger than CC batch. bits in italics/blue are less applicable outside of the fic itself, but still make sense without the context or i give the context.

Cody (Kote) - got the name Kote pretty young, changed it to Cody tho around 16-17ish?

>Jango gave it to him, when he was 10ish..? Possibly even a little younger. Jango intended as more of a nickname for just him to use, but obv it didn’t stay that way. Was very proud of "earning it" for a long time. >Changed it to Cody later in a not-so-subtle rebellion against Jango/the Kaminoans, and partially in an attempt to choose something for himself/have a part of his identity outside of his skill as a commander. >Still uses Kote on very rare occasions with the batch and other old friends from kamino ONLY (only exceptions to use it more being Fox who gets to call him Kot'ika, Rex who get a free pass for anything/everything) >his name backstory is probably most plot relevant cause his arc deals a LOT with identity issues & such. Fox - before rex was around (so pre 13)

>inspired by fox, but also spells it that way to spite fox (cody gave him the idea for it lol) >cody was annoyed that wolffe clearly chose it to match fox (bitey twins, lol) since they're supposed to be triplets. wolffe enjoys pissing him off but didn't want him to feel actually left out...so cody got to help with the god awful spelling. >confused some people into thinking it was pronounced "wolf-y". this is brought to you by my friend reading fluorescent before any other piece of star wars media and assuming that. >i love the potential meaning u can take from it of him being family/"pack" oriented and how that translates over to him being very loyal, protective, etc. Aka on the surface level he's this scary grumpy guy, but deep down is just a bit of a softie/just wants to keep his family safe. >but on a less serious note, i also love all the jokes i can make cough cough omegaverse

Rex - age 10-11ish

Bly - after rex arrived (and rex got his name) but not long after, so 13?

>litterally just chose a name they liked the sound of and thought fit them like a sane person. literally the only one to pick a normal name a normal way out of the whole batch. we stan >i like the hc being short for smth (like butterfly, etc) but i dont think it works for fluorescent :/ maybe in another fic. >possible them & rex worked together to find names that fit them bc i think that'd be sweet. i dont focus on their relationship much at all so maybe a little bonding, albiet in backstory only, is in order. >she's very likely gonna be trans (mtf) in fluorescent (tho it wasn't always the plan + she is not out yet (to herself or others) in the fic itself) so I'm considering implying Bly is traditionally a female/gender-neutral name in whatever star wars culture it's "from" (aka i make shit up) >considering a joke where someone asks her if she's picking a new one after she comes out and she's like "absolutely not, it was so hard the first time i refuse to do it again".

Ponds - last to get one, 14-15ish?

Yay....Not much of a spoiler hopefully? this may somehow be related to why he was the last to "choose" (read: accept defeat) a name, despite being a outspoknen/protective ori'vod nightmare for the Kaminoans. >dw it's not too angsty. they didn't fuck with his memories much, and were trying to change his behavior to be "less inclined to rebelliousness/contempt for authority". And if you've read his arc in fluorescent, you know they failed spectacularly at making him less likely to break the rules. >tbh I think its fitting for (how I write) his character that his name was chosen by his siblings. i think he was and is "salty" about it, but not-so-secretely touched and/or proud about it.

this whole thing was very ramble-y and i'll be surprised if more than 2 people read it, lmao, but i couldn't stop myself. a lot of this is sort of "background" and may not be actually referenced in the fic itself...but who knows.

I HATE HATE HATE how people have been treating the Saturnian moons on TikTok and just in general now. In “Saturn gets his moons back” THEY WERE rushing him through their introductions, but he himself didn’t ask before if he could take notes or anything in between. Also he could’ve just…asked in the middle of it for a break or just talk over them since we know he doesn’t really have a problem with that-

I know that 146 moons is a lot to memorize but you know Saturn’s had like 4 billion years to AT LEAST get to know his biggest ones. Like Jupiter at least knows the main four and some basic facts about them. Saturn doesn’t even know the facts about Titan💀💀 HIS FAVOURITE!! He doesn’t have surface level knowledge of his neighbours

And also about the people saying that “oh Saturn must have memory issues🥺🥺” NO THEY DO NOT I REFUSE TO BELIEVE THAT EVER!! Unlike Neptune or even Earth for that matter, up until this video no one had even a whiff of that headcanon because no stuff in the show points to this. This is just straight up people pulled out their ass to believe that Saturn is still completely good

Just yeah, I do still like C!Saturn but I side with his moons way more even if his moons other than Titan are a bit shallow. It’s great that he’s making progress as shown through the end of the episode but people VILLAINIZING the Saturnian moons just because of that just pisses me off so bad.

Deity communication can certainly be frustrating in the beginning, especially when it's so hard to find trustworthy sources about it. I've found this post pretty helpful; it's a very specific form of communication you can try. Other than that, I'll make a list of some methods you can try below.

Divination. This is probably one of the most common methods of deity communication I've seen. I actively do this myself! Divination is a very broad umbrella term that includes a wide variety of things. Tarot decks, oracle decks, pendulums, pyromancy, candle wax readings, and even smoke readings - these are only a few of the many methods of divination that exist. Being a god of communication, I've found that Lord Hermes tends to give very clear and direct divination readings. He's pretty good at getting the message across and will typically help you interpret it if you ask him to. I have a section in my pinned post dedicated to different divination methods that you can check out.

Dreams. For this, I suggest you specifically ask Lord Hermes to provide you with dreams as a form of communication between you. Keeping a dream journal will help immensely with this, otherwise, we're prone to forget our dreams. Start keeping track of recurring symbols and the context they're often mentioned in. See if you associate specific meanings with specific symbols. Try to keep track of your interpretations of each dream.

Prayer. This has always been the most reliable and effective form of communication for me. Prayer is a direct link to a deity, and if you ever feel a lack of presence, know that's entirely normal, especially if you're not feeling well emotionally. You can call on a specific epithet, or title, of Hermes to get his attention in a specific way. I typically use epithets if I'm looking for a certain kind of help from him. You're always welcome to pray to Lord Hermes. Even when I've felt anxious that he's not listening, he's always answered my prayers in his own way.

Letters/journals. Instead of prayer, you can write him letters or write to him in a journal. If you struggle with prayer, this is a great alternative! It can also feel a bit easier to be vulnerable when writing, in my opinion. While this form of communication isn't always "back and forth", it can still feel good to write everything you want to say to him.

I know I didn't offer too much here, but my forms of deity communication have changed drastically throughout my practice, and people are always coming up with new and creative ways to communicate. It's difficult to keep up with everything that's out there. I hope these ideas can at least give you somewhere to start. Take care, and best of luck to you! Do you have a specific place where you buy your cloth for them? And do you look for a specific kind as well? I believe it's called minky or something similar, right?

That's awesome!! Sewing plushies is so fun, and I hope you enjoy it! I buy my plushie making fabric in a few different places. Nowadays, I usually buy minky from CaliQuiltCo on Etsy. I like CaliQuiltCo because they let you buy minky by the 1/4 yard or a cut they call a "fat half", which is 36" by 30". I usually get the fat half; I find it's a more usable cut of fabric for plushie making and with most of the things I make half a yard lasts me quite a while I get my fleece, faux fur, and faux sherpa fabrics from Joanns Fabric, a chain craft store in the US. I would only recommend buying from Joanns in person, not online. They've had some issues with inventory management online, and sell a lot of their minky in 2 yard minimums, which is a LOT of one color for plushie making (all of this is based off of experiences I had with Joanns website a few years ago. They might be better now, idk). In person, they also have remnants bins where you can get the remnants from a bolt of fabric (usually a yard or less) at a huuuuge discount. That's the main place I get my faux furs because faux furs can be really really expensive. If you're starting out sewing, I'd recommend fleece. It's significantly cheaper than minky, almost as soft, has a similar amount of stretch (so you can use it on the same patterns), and I've heard it's easier for beginners to work with when starting out. Oh, one more thing: I recommend Shannon minky, specifically their cuddle 3 minky. Their longer pile minky fabrics are good too, but they are significantly trickier to sew, to the point where sometimes I just handsew them instead of machine sewing

the thing is that they're so fascinated by sex, they love sex, they can't imagine a world without sex - they need sex to sell things, they need sex to be part of their personality, they need sex to prove their power - but they hate sex. they are disgusted by it.

sex is the only thing that holds their attention, and it is also the thing that can never be discussed directly.

you can't tell a child the normal names for parts of their body, that's sexual in nature, because the body isn't a body, it's a vessel of sex. it doesn't matter that it's been proven in studies (over and over) that kids need to know the names of their genitals; that they internalize sexual shame at a very young age and know it's 'dirty' to have a body; that it overwhelmingly protects children for them to have the correct words to communicate with. what matters is that they're sexual organs. what matters is that it freaks them out to think about kids having body parts - which only exist in the context of sex.

it's gross to talk about a period or how to check for cancer in a testicle or breast. that is nasty, illicit. there will be no pain meds for harsh medical procedures, just because they feature a cervix.

but they will put out an ad of you scantily-clad. you will sell their cars for them, because you have abs, a body. you will drip sex. you will ooze it, like a goo. like you were put on this planet to secrete wealth into their open palms.

they will hit you with that same palm. it will be disgusting that you like leather or leashes, but they will put their movie characters in leather and latex. it will be wrong of you to want sexual freedom, but they will mark their success in the number of people they bed.

they will crow that it's inappropriate for children so there will be no lessons on how to properly apply a condom, even to teens. it's teaching them the wrong things. no lessons on the diversity of sexual organ growth, none on how to obtain consent properly, none on how to recognize when you feel unsafe in your body. if you are a teenager, you have probably already been sexualized at some point in your life. you will have seen someone also-your-age who is splashed across a tv screen or a magazine or married to someone three times your age. you will watch people pull their hair into pigtails so they look like you. so that they can be sexy because of youth. one of the most common pornography searches involves newly-18 young women. girls. the words "barely legal," a hiss of glass sand over your skin.

barely legal. there are bills in place that will not allow people to feel safe in their own bodies. there are people working so hard to punish any person for having sex in a way that isn't god-fearing and submissive. heteronormative. the sex has to be at their feet, on your knees, your eyes wet. when was the first time you saw another person crying in pornography and thought - okay but for real. she looks super unhappy. later, when you are unhappy, you will close your eyes and ignore the feeling and act the role you have been taught to keep playing. they will punish the sex workers, remove the places they can practice their trade safely. they will then make casual jokes about how they sexually harass their nanny.

and they love sex but they hate that you're having sex. you need to have their ornamental, perfunctory, dispassionate sex. so you can't kiss your girlfriend in the bible belt because it is gross to have sex with someone of the same gender. so you can't get your tubes tied in new england because you might change your mind. so you can't admit you were sexually assaulted because real men don't get hurt, you should be grateful. you cannot handle your own body, you cannot handle the risks involved, let other people decide that for you. you aren't ready yet.

but they need you to have sex because you need to have kids. at 15, you are old enough to parent. you are not old enough to hear the word fuck too many times on television.

they are horrified by sex and they never stop talking about it, thinking about it, making everything unnecessarily preverted. the saying - a thief thinks everyone steals. they stand up at their podiums and they look out at the crowd and they sign a bill into place that makes sexwork even more unsafe and they stand up and smile and sign a bill that makes gender-affirming care illegal and they get up and they shrug their shoulders and write don't say gay and they get up, and they make the world about sex, but this horrible, plastic vision of it that they have. this wretched, emotionless thing that holds so much weight it's staggering. they put their whole spine behind it and they push and they say it's normal!

this horrible world they live in. disgusted and also obsessed.
