I just finished reading Keep The Light Shining by @c-l-y-d-e and ohmygosh what an amazing story! I wanted to create something for the fic and while I was playing my RAV the other day after reading the scene where Slipher comes after Yugi I played this! (or well, something similar. It's hard to replicate improvisation for a recording haha!)
Now to ramble about what I was thinking when playing! SPOILERS for the fic tho so watch out!! -
Recently, I've been trying to express more with my RAV Vast playing, I have the scale B Onoleo which offers both minor and major scales with it's 9 notes. I often play light/calm music, but for this I wanted to explore something more dramatic.
At the start, I'm running my hands over the drum to replicate the sound of the ocean, I try to keep this up throughout the song along with the beat (which I sometimes mess up since I get nervous when recording but I think that adds to the way Yugi was feeling). The start is when Pegasus sends Yugi off into the water, it's scarily calm for too short a time. The beat starts to pick up when Slipher starts to show itself, reaching it's loudest when he finally appears from the water and Yugi is fighting to keep alive. Everything starts to calm near the end when Atem arrives to help him.
Or something like that :p
Some audio processing to make it sound better! Tongue drums are hard to record (>.<;) Hope people enjoy this! And I highly recommend reading Keep The Light Shining!!!

There are so many, but I hunted for one to share and this is it. From The Story of Us , written for Frumpologist on her birthday. This is her comment, and I’m not sure if tumblr is going to break it up. But I visit it every time I question myself over whether I’m a real writer or not. Keep reading added because it’s so long.
Let’s talk for a moment about how utterly BEAUTIFULLY you’ve set this story!! Fall, the leaves crunching around her boots, the way Hermione thinks back over her friendship and feelings for Theo. It sets such a tone, and I’m like YASSSSSSS PINING HERE WE GO. And I ADORE friends-to-lovers and pining and I’m D Y I N G I’m so excited!!!!
Hermione not speaking her feelings and expecting Theo to just KNOW is SUCH a me trait, LOL It’s like you KNOW ME. I’m already relating to Hermione and I can’t even. I’m so fucking pumped for this and I’m only a few paragraphs in and I cannot believe I’m so lucky as to have you write Themione for meeeeeeee!!!
A party. A P A R T Y. \o/ YES GIVE IT TO MEEEEEEEEEE. Shhhhh, Hermione, it’s okay, go to the party!! MY HEART. But god, I love the familiarity between the two; that Theo knows there’s something wrong with her even if she won’t tell him what it is. I love that he presses her, and that she pushes back. The banter even with the F2L trope is MY LIFE. I can’t flail about this more -- I’m IN PIECES. Also, Hermione’s propensity to avoid everyone at all costs is SO relatable to me; I’m an avoider by nature and it just rings true. I’m having feelings, leave me alone. LOL SO good.

Okay. Let’s talk about how perfectly canon you’ve made Hermione. She’s filling her time by helping Ron and Harry with their applications. It’s SUCH a Hermione move!! I also love how everyone is pressuring her to tell Theo. Like EVERYONE KNOWS and they’re just these two numpties that ignore what’s clearly right in front of them and it’s my F A V O R I T E. AND NOT NEARLY AS FIT AS IS RIGHT. I MEAN. MICHAEL IS NO THEO. NO ONE IS THEO. THEO IS LIFE. OMG. FOREARMS AND VEINS AND BROAD SHOULDERS, MY TRIFECTA OF DROOL.

And my god, I love that they’re writing letters to the next heads about their time as Heads. I also want to know who the previous heads were, because I could ship it maybe. LOL STOP ME I’m a TERROR. I really, really adore how you’ve created this sense of time passing, and nostalgia, all while the story is taking place in a short period of time. It’s masterful, actually, how you’ve managed to make this one shot insight into their lives feel like it spans their entire time at Hogwarts. And honestly I shouldn’t be sitting here excited for a chat with Draco, but I AM. Best Friend Draco Malfoy is my favorite Theo Trope. Because they are so brotherly and I adore the bromance and I am HERE for Malfoy bickering and telling Hermione to pull her head out of her arse.
OMG Theo gave Michael detention, LMAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooof course he did!!!! Hahahahha, I LOVE IT. And that Draco has to point out that Theo is jealous -- omg, did he really insult The Grey Lady to her face?! LOL Theooooooooooooooooooo. You kill me.

I’m crying. Hermione watching Harry dance and saying that she wasn’t sure Harry knew what dancing was reminds me of the worst sort of white suburban dad dancing ever. Also, the little detail that Ron had no idea that Hermione’d ever been drunk struck me as super powerful. I love that they share these things outside of The Golden Trio; it really brings a feel of intimacy to the whole relationship, and it’s incredibly well done.
Theo found her at the party. I repeat. Theo found her at the party and his breath is in her ear and his fingers are at the small of her back and it’s like YOU GET ME and what I NEEEEED in romance. BAH, the little touches!!!! I’m MELTING. Oh, damnit Hermione, shhhhhh. He loves you and just… let it happen. LOL I love how she’s her own worst enemy sometimes. I love how she rakes her nails down her back and that it’s frantic and it’s years of bottled emotions and he cleans her after and OH MY GOD HE’S GOING TO KILL DRACO, LOLOLOL God all of the feelings of jealousy and the pining all brought full circle just. This story is just so perfect. SO. SO. Perfect.

Fan Fiction Ask Game
@madamrogers tagged me here, and I figured since it’s directly fanfic related, I’d post it in my side blog that I use exclusively for writing. I’m probably going to have to skip a lot of these, but I’m a work in progress!

B: Any of your stories inspired by personal experience?
Personal experience that I’m constantly wishing I had, sure! Really though, the basic premise for Oh, Christmas Tree used to happen annually- my family would always go to a Christmas tree farm and choose/purchase our Christmas tree from there when I was a kid.
C: What member do you identify with most?
If by “member” the writer of this ask means “character”... it’s, oddly enough, never the reader. There’s a certain level of obscurity that has to be draped over the reader, so I feel more identification with the characters I write for (Ryan Brenner, Billy Russo, Logan Delos-- more to come!) and have the opportunity to expand upon.
D: Is there a song or a playlist to associate with [insert fic]?
I rarely listen to music while I write, especially lately since my attention span is a complete joke!
E: If you wrote a sequel to [insert fic], what would it be about?
I could see expanding on my one-shot Perfect Strangers if I had to write a sequel. I sort of like it how it is, though. And my really crappy text drabble has the potential to turn into something amazing if @dylanobrusso and her incredible writings are any indication!
G: Do you write your story from start to finish, or do you write the scenes out of order?
I have always, always written from start to finish. I feel like things come more naturally and cohesively in that way. One of my current WIPs is the first thing I’ve ever written that’s out of order, and it’s taking me ages to fill in the middle! I don’t hate it, though. It’s an interesting perspective to write by!
H: How would you describe your style?
Desciption, descripton, description. Loads of internal dialogue as well as surroundings in the setting, etc. I’m a visual learner and have a technicolor imagination. Terrible when it comes to dialogue! It’s like I lose all sense of language.
K: What’s the angstiest idea you’ve ever come up with?
Most of my ideas include a fair amount of angst, which is sort of ironic considering the tiny bit that I’ve posted so far is pure fluff. Also, my ideas are few and far between, so I’m not sharing!
L: How many times do you usually revise your fic/chapter before posting?
I usually just ask people to do me the huge favor of being a beta a few dozen times. Besides getting their critiques and tweaking what needs to be tweaked, I usually just read over things once or twice
M: Got any premises on the back burner that you’d care to share?
I have a friends-to-enemies-to-lovers type trope thing planned for one character (I haven’t decided on which yet), another very vague idea based around Billy Russo in the Marines, and one more brewing for Ryan Brenner. There’s also one request I’m working on that’s slowly killing me.
O: How do you begin a story–with the plot, or the characters?
Usually, plot (or, more likely, tiny dialogue scenes) come to me and then I choose the character accordingly.
Q: How do you feel about collaborations?
I think collaborations have the potential to be amazing! Meticulously planning things out could be fun, but I think that allowing the person(s) you’re collaborating with to use their creative freedom as they wish could be a lot of fun, even as something as simple as a writing exercise.
U: Share three of your favorite fic writers and why you like them so much.
In no particular order...
@logans-chestnuts (and family): One of the series written by this writer was what got me hooked into the world of fanfiction reading and writing again.The way Logan’s voice is captured in these fics along with the hilarity that ensues gets my attention every time.
@something-tofightfor: I was hooked to the style of your writing after the first paragraph of HNH. I love all the description, your ability to transport a reader into the time and setting of what you’ve written, and all of your depictions of various characters are so spot-on.
@dylanobrusso: How do you write in such a stunning way? Never have I seen another writer do things the way you do, in such an effortless way, day in and day out. I’m so glad you started posting your drabbles!

@banditthewriter: I stumbled upon your masterlist around the same time I did @logans-chestnuts and it’s been frequented ever since! You have such a talent, thank you for sharing that with us!
@breanime: I just adore you. Your way with words brings so many emotions with it, and it just seems completely effortless. I fall in love with everything you do.

W: Do you like more general prompts, or more specific ones?
I’m a whore for dialogue prompts. I have an entire notebook full of them.
X: A character you enjoy making suffer.
I don’t enjoy it, per se, but suffering has to be involved even just a tad bit, right?
Y: A character you want to protect.
Above all others, Ryan Brenner. But I want to show Logan and BIlly the power of genuine love, too.
Z: Major character death–do you ever write/read it? Is there a character whose death you can’t tolerate?
I actually haven’t read or written a major character death but I know that if/when I ever do, it’s going to destroy me.

@dmitryanya made THIS AMAZING FAN ART OF MARVIN AND TRINA THAT MADE ME ACTUALLY TEAR UP. It was actually the first fan art that I had ever recieved so it always makes me so emotional when I see it. It’s also so so so !!! well done. Like the shading and attention to facial expressions and the accuracy is just so !!! AWE-INSPIRING. I am a Fan^tm. This artist has made other fan art of falsettos and the content is just so ON POINT. I love it a lot.
@evetrash has made a cute comic with a particularly angsty excerpt and actually made it so cute and funny??? like d a m n. that took talent. I laughed and kinda forgot that I was supposed to be crying. and the art style is so cute and pretty and yes!!! q u a l i t y blog.
@thatthouknowestthine made sketches of scenes from my fic which !!!!! TOOK MY BREATH AWAY. They are such a talented artist and this fan art is so beautiful and i love the scenes that they chose, and their depiction of the characters are very much !!!! SO LOVELY. Another talented artist!!!
@ciaowhizzer - aka BLESSED MUTUAL - made some 10001/10, A+++++, i-look-at-these-daily-and-have-to-resist-the-urge-to-cry sketches of some iconic scenes as well! What more can I say about these??? That i love them to pieces??? that they are so well done and cause my heart to swoon??? the attention to small detail and shading and facial expression is just spell-bounding. I think about the art so much and feel like I am so unworthy!! such an iconic artist and she chose to bless me with fan art of my fic??? I am speechless.
But yeah - all of these artists are just so so so important to me and blessed me with not only validation but blessed art - a thing that was created/inspired by MY OWN THING. And like, art is so so so hard, so the fact that these artists have such a talent and chose to share that talent by making me fan art is just??? So incredible and inspiring and it’s so overwhelming to think about. I have so much respect and admiration for these people, and I love and support them with all my heart. Thank you so much.
