Hi! I don't know if your ace or not, and if this question makes you uncomfortable ignore it, but is it possible for ace people to like, stop being ace if they find the right person? I just feel rlly guilty about reading alastor fics knowing that he's ace and ig this would make me have peace of mind or smth?

I am ace! But I can't speak on behalf of all aces, since everyone's experience is different. There aren't any “rules” to live by as an ace person. Honestly, you can do whatever you want and still be ace. You can also use the label and then find it doesn't fit you anymore, no harm done. That being said… the idea that asexual people will “stop being ace if they find the right person” is a very dodgy one. From what I've seen/read, it tends to be used to invalidate the ace identity. People on the asexual spectrum can and do take partners, and some people end up feeling sexual attraction (demisexuals and grey-aces, for example), but that doesn't make them any less ace.

I'll throw in my personal opinion here (since this is my blog!): with Alastor specifically, canonically he seems uninterested in sex at the very least, and maybe even sex-repulsed. I don't think the people writing Alastor fics or drawing ship art are being malicious, and the same goes for the people consuming that content. Go right ahead and read those Alastor fics if you want. Personally, I don't care. I've seen some posts on here from other (aro)ace people endorsing the writing and reading of that kinda thing! But IMO, it’s been disappointing to see Alastor's canon identity thrown out so frequently in favour of making shipping/sexual content. There are so many other characters you could be shipping! And I don't think the vast majority of people are thinking to themselves, “he's ace, but there are so many different ways to be ace, and I'd like to explore that for his character”, they're just using it as an excuse to ignore his identity and give him the same treatment as the rest of the cast. But again, I don't think (most) people are being malicious. Just (maybe wilfully) ignorant.

Anyway, sorry for the ramble! If you really feel guilty about reading Alastor fics, find fics with other characters you can comfortably enjoy. I reckon that'd be a better time for everyone haha /lh

I must confess something, I do not understand white Vox lol is it just his VA? He may be just a TV with a body but his eyes seem to be drawn as east asian and thats his most prominent human feature. Majority of the time I see people draw him as a human they actually erase his real eye shape to (I assume) make him look more white. There's no real canon so people can hc whatever but I am so intrigued by how people are interpreting him white. I promise there are nasty tech/media ceos that overwork their employees all over the world... maybe im reading too much into it because the show is otherwise verrrry western-centric. Just curious how you view it, you're definitely in the majority and i realize people like me are the outliers but just saw your post and had to ask (if you didnt mind sharing).

Anon ur hella polite and ik u got good intentions so I was stressing a little over how to respond without invalidating ur headcanon cuz like, I never want to be the guy saying “this character is white and u can’t headcanon them as a racial minority” cuz that’s pretty shitty no matter what. We definitely have different takes but when I’m explaining my interpretation I don’t wanna sound like I’m trying to boss ppl around and say there’s only one way u can see these characters. This is just my personal interpretation and I was being funny in my og post implying that my interpretation is the “correct” way. But since u asked I’ll explain my reasoning why I (and prob other ppl) see Vox as extremely white lol.

I don’t take Vox’s physical appearance into account at all when thinking about his ethnicity cuz in a show were everyone is pretty racially ambiguous design wise Vox is one of the most ambiguously humanoid characters, like my guy literally has a tv for a head with eyes and a mouth, and that’s it. I don’t see ur point about his eyes at all tbh, to me Vox’s vaguely slanted eyes have always come off more like a devious squint than an ethnic feature. Even still I don’t read slanted eyes as Asian automatically so it never occurred to me.

I don’t read as Vox as white bcus of his VA being white or him being a tech bro billionaire (but ig they play a part). I read Vox as white mostly bcus I see his background as a former religious extremist/cult leader from the 50s with a skill in life and in death for male manipulating ppl and using them for his own gain as very white and western. (I got this info from his official reference sheet for auditioning va’s, here that is)

His capitalistic ideals and business practices r meant to mirror (extremely white) billionaires like Musk and Bezos, which adds to my perception of him. Of course being a billionaire tech guy is not a western white man exclusive thing, but I feel that if we were meant to perceive Vox as someone not from America that would definitely be coded or in some way communicated. And I say this with as little ill will as possible, but for me I wouldn’t want to perceive Vox as an East Asian tech bro billionaire specifically bcus there r negative stereotypes and connotations attached there. East Asian men have a history of being negatively stereotyped as corrupt tech business owners. I don’t think u are trying to imply those stereotypes with ur head canon (frankly it’s hard to avoid negative stereotypes in fiction a lot of the time bcus stereotypes encompass such a vast range of things that its hard to take them all into account). But regardless, it’s smth we should try to be conscious of.

Anyways, I also usually take these character’s personalities and values, self image, etc into account when im thinking about race, bcus race is more then color, and especially for characters with lives and personalities based in much less tolerant time periods, it’s significant to consider how race would play a role in forming the way they navigate the world. Based on how Vox behaves I can’t see him as being racially marginalized. I’m gonna compare Vox to alastor a little cuz alastor is canonically creole and I think he serves as a good reference for someone I perceive as not white in comparison to Vox and how I think he differs and contradicts the experiences of a racial minority.

Vox to me comes off as someone who thinks he is entitled to power, respect, privilege, etc, which is a very standard type of attitude for a white man who was alive in the 1950s to have. He’s very emotionally immature and volatile, doesn’t seem to concern much over his public image beyond petty dick measuring contests with alastor (he regularly publicly has angry tantrums and doesn’t break a sweat over how this will affect his status). He obviously cares about it (scolding Valentino for embarrassing him and such) but he doesn’t seem to worry about loss of reputation in any sort of real way. I get the impression that Vox has always had at least a standard amount of social standing and privilege and can’t see a life for himself without the fundamental privilege he feels owed there to support him. He’s basically a man baby, a man baby who still manages to garner power and respect effortlessly (it comes naturally to him) while remaining whiny and insecure. Very white man of him! White man behavior!

in comparison, Alastor, (who I do not read as white) is always frantically clinging to his composed self image and his power as if it will slip away from him if he loosens his grasp at all. He has an extremely firm grip on his composure to the point where he never allows anyone to see him slip at all, let alone frown (despite his mental health and emotional well being being equally fragile as Vox’s). Alastor understands deeply how little the world owes him and how difficult and unreliable his acquiring of status actually is. He is borderline neurotic about retaining his power and staying on top. Despite the smile, Alastor is always defensive and fearful, picking fights with anyone he thinks might be a threat like a small dog or a prey animal would. Meanwhile, Vox conducts himself like a man with nothing to loose. I feel like Vox grew up with money and doesn’t know poverty or a lack of privilege in any intimate way that would drive him to guard it in anyway beyond flippant. To Vox power, status, and privilege are inherent. Same can’t be said for alastor.

tldr in conclusion Vox’s brand of bad feels very specific to a white man, alongside his emotional immaturity and his attitude, mindset, and behavior. This is why I see him as white asf, but I don’t think there’s anything wrong or it’s in anyway less correct to headcanon him as a different race. That’s just how I see him. Just wanted to say I love your art especially the Haikaveh / Kavatham art. Out of curiosity how do you come up with so many ideas when it comes to character interactions / dynamics? And also know how to draw the poses? All of your headcanons / sketches / comics are so unique, it's inspiring me to actually draw characters interacting and doing stuff

Also I can't believe Kaveh hasn't rerun yet I didn't get him when he came out 😭

i get inspired by literally anything so its kind of easy for me to come up with ideas i think?? they do all differ in quality tho

i relate too mcuh to haitham (is this kinning already or--) so it comes easy to me to write him in comics etc. sometimes i slap on own stuff/experiences on him in hcs. also w me hyperfixating i lit study the characters under a microscope (kvh) for funsies and better feel of their character

drawing other character interact is not really hard tho imo.....i mean if you play the game and dont skip dialogues or look into voice lines you already have a picture of how the dynamics/interactions are... ig??

poses are just in my mind, i studied lots of anatomy back then and just observed my own body a lot so i v rarely need references for poses or how muscles/fat/etc shifts or looks in certain position anymore (and if i do i just look up photography to study or look at myself for specific things)

When was the last time you cried? This weekend when I watched s15e18 of Supernatural... I was not expecting it to be so emotional when I already knew what was going to happen. I was wrong.

Sorry if you got this asked before but I'm so in love with your artwork, how did you get so good at anatomy and posing? I struggle a lot with it.

omg HI TY TY !!!! uuuhm tbh it was mainly 4 things for me: using irl pics as ref, using my artgods' art as ref, obsessing over proportions until it becomes second nature to you fr, and 3d models or posing apps .... [some examples and entire ramblings under the cut i got carried away AGH]

using irl pics as reference - i literally go on pinterest n combine several photos 2 get the pose i want, [or when it comes to hands i take pics of my own lol] i usually browse through magazine photoshoots or pics of statues n find stuff with cool poses .... this also applies to other stuff rlly like for clothing folds i would pick out parts that would look and feel right and interpret it in my own wayyy

find an artist with a Banger sense of anatomy n use their stuff as reference - bonus points if ur artgods have a semi realistic style n ur already obsessed with their stuff like Seriously the other half of my ref photos are other ppl's art and i would copy the way they draw certain things - i also actively observe How they draw these certain things like "oh this is actually in a triangle shape" or "oh theres a bump here and its followed by a straightish line" and i am mindful of these, i make sure to remember them even just the tiniest change bc that's still an improvement yk a different way of thinking abt something - love these accs for anatomy [tomfoxdraws, taco1704, kato_anatomy], this artist is great at simplifying their ref but still keeping it dynamic and flowy [UTWP_], and this acc for more general tips but with timelapses so u can see how they go about drawing something [KawaiiSensei_jp] <- theres also some anatomy stuff there toooo also SORRY literally 4/5 of these accs are in japanese or korean i just look at stuff n think about it no need to read :sob:

study up on proportions n figure out ways 2 simplify stuff using basic shapes - thanking my 12 year old self for being so nitpicky abt proportions like, i used to "measure" the length of the limbs and from doing that i learned how a bunch of stuff works like halfway point of the torso is also where elbows are, hands end midthigh, thigh usually as long as torso etcetc and since i got so used to "measuring" these it's just muscle memory for me atp, its all about the observations ur honor - for simplifying stuff its like, breaking something down to its basic shapes like how the hand can be a square or a triangle with a bunch of circles or cylinders attached to it, how the torso can be a rectangle circle or triangle depending on the body type etcetc - once again its actively observing and keeping what u learned in mind and doing it over and over again until it Sticks and u can change stuff n improve on it as u learn more about it

3d models / posing apps - literally only just started using these. a month or two ago ??? but i find these Very useful for when i have Such a specific pose in mind or when im too lazy to find or take ref pics WOOPS i also use irl ref pics when posing my 3d model btw im not That lazy KJSDFSDF

oh and i watched jjba and that singlehandedly made me like muscles and want to study how to draw them help there's that too ig ..... I HAVE NO IDEA IF THIS MAKES SENSE ITS ALL JUST MOSTLY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE HOPE THIS HELPS !!!!!!!!

hello!! c: aw thank you so much!!! <3 i’m really glad to hear that you enjoy them! ⸜(｡˃ ᵕ ˂ )⸝♡ ah okay! so i did write her as a sinner, but i left her sinner attributes and qualities ambiguous for two reasons: 1. they aren’t at all relevant to the stories/pieces (they add nothing to the plot/narrative/concept and aren’t necessary information), and 2. since she’s meant to be a (self)-insert, i wanted to leave specifics vague so anyone could fill them in and construct those finer details themselves. with that being said, you’re more than welcome to interpret her as a human if you’d like to!

she technically does have a backstory that i keep in mind while i write her because she’s me and modelled after my own self-ship with alastor, which is: she ended up at the hotel because she’s one of angel’s drug addict porn star friends, and she is absolutely smitten with alastor the very moment she meets him—instantly obsessed, entirely enraptured, ready to devote herself to him, to worship him in every sense of the word, right then and there...all without a contract. it is a very primal reaction, a powerful, almost innate draw towards him.

and alastor, having never experienced such intense, purely authentic devotion, becomes kind of addicted to it—infatuated with it. it’s obsession on the purest level, although he does eventually grow to feel genuine compassion for his pet too. but what really draws him and fosters his own intense feelings of infatuation and obsession is her unwavering devotion, her wanting and willingness to serve him no matter what. he becomes addicted to it and to the power it grants him.

Where I've Been

Okay, so, 'sup babygrills. This is going to be a bit of a lengthy post, but I feel like I should update followers on here as to where I've been because I haven't been active for, like, months.

If you don't care to read all of the stuff under the cut, that's fine. Here's my TL;DR: I've been having issues with mental illness, trauma, motivation, gender dysphoria (?), and have been busy with college and YouTube/social media stuff. However, luckily my HK special interest has returned and I plan on posting more often hopefully. (Mild cw for mental health mentions ig.)

Okay, so, to begin, I've been gone a lot due to responsibilities outside of making Nyctophobia content. So, up until recently, I've been working on graduating from college. I've been finishing up my final class this Summer, but last quarter in the Spring was really difficult for me time-wise and mental health-wise. I've had a lot of issues with depression and anxiety throughout my life, and being at college was torturous and sapped all of my energy. It did not help that, last quarter, I had to be there at the college for six hours of my day five days a week. It was not easy to make art for myself and my channel, much less for this blog.

Outside of college, and I've mentioned this before in passing, but I also make YouTube videos and, at the moment, YT is my income (alongside comms as well). I've been pretty focused on keeping my my schedule at least a little bit consistent, and that alone has been draining and tiring. It also affects the kind of art that I can create, as I have to draw certain things for certain videos. I've been really weary when it comes to making content as of late, and I really need to take a small break so that I can work on stuff I actually want to work on rather than being stuck drawing certain things for the sake of videos I'm not inspired to make.

Pivoting more into specifics about my mental health, I have been needing to see a therapist for a long while, but I haven't had the motivation or the funds to pursue that option up until recently. Hopefully, I will be attending therapy soon. Last year in, uhm, September I had a particularly bad mental health episode and I've come to realise that some events that happened during that time have left me with trauma that I'm still currently working past and healing from. I've had issues with self-harm, depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts, and self-perception for a long time, but in the Spring they were stifling and impossible to ignore. Lately, they have been better, though. So, that's nice. There hasn't been just the usual stuff lately (oh no, that's be too easy), but I've gotten jumpscared with gender issues (hooray, my favourite /s) during this time, and am struggling with my self-perception regarding my gender up to current day. (Hi, I currently go by Rot or Sexy Fictional Bug Enthusiast and my pronouns are they/them, but they may very well be they/he soon). Also, I had a bad identity crisis a couple of months ago and had to do this whole rebrand thing that was a lot of work and it kinda sucked away a lot of energy and time.

On top of all of that, ya boy's special interest metre has been focused primarily on OC stuff and other things outside of HK. It's pretty well-known that I have autism and Hollow Knight is one of my special interests. I'm unsure how it works for most people, but my fixations tend to come in waves and fluctuate (though super special meaningful ones stick for a long time). So, like, I had this whole issue with my mind always being fixated more on things outside of HK. It's been my OCs for a few months, but alongside that, I also suddenly became enraptured by The Owl House and my Digimon special interest sleeper agent returned for a hot second there. As of recently, I've been interested in HK again, but have been afraid to start/work on projects related to my AU because of me having to work on OC content for my channel and also for my friends who are invested.

As of right now, I have some more time on my hands to make the content I want to make, and my HK fixation is back (thank fuck). I've generally been doing a bit better in the mental health arena, but I will also be taking some time off of YT and posting videos regularly in favour of focusing on making stuff I want to make. So, like, expect me to be more active here for some time. I might be finishing a fic in the next month (hopefully) as well, and I have some general comic and art ideas. I just want to draw Auric again, god dammit. My beloved. <3

some that come to mind: - he loves to call iceland on the phone and he'll just talk for hours until ice tells him to stop - he's big into fishing!! he has his own boat. she's named britta - like a true norwegian he has cabins scattered all over the country that he'll disappear to randomly for unknown periods of time without telling anyone - but although he loves the mountains he's the most connected to the sea of all the nordics. that dude smells like sea brine and fish at all times - he loves baking! it's one of he and denmark's bonding activities :) dan loves his pastries and making things look pretty while nor just wants to make the sweetest thing he can eat without keeling over and dying - the late 1700s and early 1800s were the worst time of his life for him. although he hated being given to sweden, he felt better then because it gave him the chance to at least try and fight back and feel more like himself (and he ended up with more freedoms than under denmark-norway) - speaking of, a big reason why i think he overcompensates with being an overbearing big brother is that he feels a bit like he let the kid down, since he was there for neither iceland's most vulnerable years as a toddler nor for his teenage years

I feel like you must get asked this often and I'm sorry, but how is everyone you draw always so well-dressed? Do you have a source/sources of fashion inspiration or is it more of an innately incredible sense of style that I can only envy from afar? (I love your art!!)

i do NOT get asked this actually!!! HOLD ONTO UR BUTTS.. IM GONNA FUCKIN RAMBLE!!!! u have unleashed the fucking BEAST im sorry.

FIRST i will confess to u smth.. all of my Fashion and Design Aesthetics were formed in my TENDER YOUTH watching eureka 7 and reading like, really fashionable shoujo manga + IMMORTAL RAIN in PARTICULAR. one of my most substantial influences is 70s mod fashion (the combo result of e7 and I Watched Austin Powers Probably Too Much As A Child) which isnt always apparent in the actual outfits but is usually p apparent in like.. HOW i draw them (clean/concise silhouettes, a lot of straight lines and curve combos accentuating each other). more than fashion fit design itself i rely LARGELY on breaking the body up into shapes and sections and then mold clothes to fit however i want to section those shapes. I HAVE NO IDEA IF THAT MAKES SENSE but THIS oc thing i did the other day kind of showcases what i focus on in terms of visual appeal when i do outfits.

i also like to think about personality when it comes to designing fits- like, what does the character enjoy, what is their GOAL w their clothing?? the ones i drew there are all a Specific Look that oc cultivates, which is WEAPONIZED SEXUALITY so her sexy fits are revealing but not TOO revealing bc its a tease not an invitation. her ultimate goal is to throw ppl off their guard and have them underestimate her, which is why her OTHER aesthetic is like, CHASTE INNOCENT SUNDAY SCHOOL ATTIRE. everything i draw her in is designed w her Goals in mind, if that is making any sense at all. ig what i am trying to say is that i always think in terms of like WHY would the character wear this, WHAT purpose do they utilize their clothes for? if i can narrow that down then i usually can visualize smth OR narrow down to a Clothes Genre and work from there

HERE are some brief annotations for my thought process on designing these outfits. i based them all off cape coats and pea coats so those were my references once i got it down to a GENRE. SIMILARLY i thought abt some of ninos canon aesthetics in THIS draw for the color palette (THE BUBBLER, SPECIFICALLY, OBVIOUSLY), BUT this is one of those cases where i just went w MY preferences for what i want to see chars in, same w marinettes fit. you can really see my 70s influence w ninos little booty shorts tbh

OTHERWISE YEAH. i just pull stuff outta my cavernous little noggin and call it good!! every set of pjs ive drawn marinette in are just things i think are cute and want to draw her in, not necessarily smth i think shed wear in the show. i dont look up fashion insp stuff v often but i used to spend soooo much time on lookbook back in the day (is lookbook still a thing??????). overall i just mix n match shit i KNOW i like, which usually means a lot of croptops if i am being honest here
