I don't remember where I read it, but I think denmark said he considers norway to be his best friend. But Norway didn't say the same, I think he said something about "poking denmark" but that was that. do you think their "best" friendship is one-sided?

They are definitely good friends, but it does seem to be a thing that Denmark likes Norway more than Nor likes Den. From my point of view, Norway has closer relations to Sweden than Denmark.

I don't know if this has been asked before, but who do you think Norway's best friends are?

Apart from the obvious choice (Scotland), definitely England and Sweden! There is no other country Norway is closer to than Sweden, both cuturally and geographically, and the understand each other on a deep level. Norway and England has always been good friends, with Denmark-Norway more often than not allying with him throughout history and they share many similar interests.

Never really a ship I've given a lot of thought before, but I'm sure someone could conjure up some compelling reasons for it. As I have them in my head rn I struggle to picture how their personalities would work out in a couple dynamic, but maybe that's just me.

less positive, personal opinion very influenced by wwii history:

During the Second World War, when Norway was occupied by Germany, the German soldiers were encouraged to have relations with Norwegian women because of "race reasons". It was said that the "perfect Aryan baby" was born to a Norwegian woman and had a German father. A lot of nazi propaganda in Norway lifted the Norwegian people up and emphazied the purity of the "Norwegian race", being a "perfect match" for the German race. The nazis also established nursing homes in Norway that specifically took in women who had gotten pregnant with a German soldier, to ensure the child got the perfect start in life.

Being so incredibly familiar with this history, I personally stuggle to separate this idea with the pairing itself (specifically when it comes to Nyo!Norway/Germany for obvious reasons), and my thoughts constantly drift towards nazi propaganda whenever I encounter it.

I do realize, of course, this is just a "me problem", and it should not deterr other people from enjoying the ship - I do see a lot of potential in it, with more positive history to back it up as well - but I don't think I will ever be able behind it personally, due to these connotations so prevalent in my mind.

Norway/Nyo!Sweden opinion?

Any Scandi combination gives immediate sibling vibes for me ✨ I'm not too much of a nyo fan either, just because we don't really have anything more than simple sketches and loose designs for them (regarding the Nordics at least), something that I find difficult to get invested in myself. It's fun to play around with, but not really something I think about too much.

What's the story behind Denmark and the Netherlands?

Like, behind the ship? Or just in general?

Denmark and the Netherlands has a long history of friendship as well as many similarities between them. They have been trading partners since the Middle Ages, especially regarding cattle trade, that peaked in the 1600s and is this ongoing with Denmark exporting a calves to the Netherlands. Many Dutch refugees fled to Denmark during the Eighty Years War between 1568 and 1638, which further established links between them. They had a rough patch in the 1620s when Denmark upped the toll through Øresund because they were low on money. This cuased the Netherlands to join Sweden in war against Denmark in 1643. Still, after this, the Netherlands and Denmark-Norway remained allies and the Netherlands came to help when Sweden attacked Copenhagen in the 1660s. The Netherlands saved the city from capture. Likewise, Denmark-Norway helped the Netherlands in the war against England in 1665, which resulted in Dutch victory, as well as in the Thrid Anglo-Dutch War between 1672-1674. Further on, Denmark attacked southern Sweden as retaliation after Sweden had attacked the Netherlands in 1675. Sweden won the battles on land, but lost at sea.

Both Denmark and the Netherlands have similar terrain, extremely flat, and as such has both a love for biking and have infrastructure that facilitates this. Apparently the Danes and the Dutch are two of the few countries that celebrate copper wedding anniversaries (12,5 years) in the world, and they are both known for having similar mannerisms.

So, Denmark and the Netherlands have a long shared history of allegiance, trading, and cooperation between them, as well as cultural similarities and shared interests. Also, both their languages are incomprehensible garbage
