just a wee list of connections i want for my muses. feel free to drop me a pm if you wanna talk abt any of them!
nayul ; - a criminal type or a detective type that finds out one way or another about her blog and after a bit of digging they figure out she’s the one behind it. either they blackmail or just flat out ask her for help with information gathering or other dirty work.
gyeonghui ; - toxic relationships. falsely giving her actual freedom just in the process just ruining her even more. getting her high, putting her in actual dangerous situations, hiding their relationship from mujin and the others in her cult etc. - alternatively someone weathered and wise, someone who’s gone through similar shit as what she’s in right now and sees a bit of themselves in her. they would introduce her to music, simple pleasures, actually work to coax out her real personality and give her the tools she needs to start taking her life back
mujin ; - semi-classic enemies to lovers, m only. they can’t stand each other, whether theyre both from similar scenes or theyre a lawful type that cant stand mujin’s attitude and actions but can never quite pin him to anything actually incriminating. they clash over and over until the tension reaches a peak and mujin is just fucking hurtled out of the closet. possibly a turning point for him.
sydney ;  - childhood friends reunited. they grew apart years ago when they were still young and now theyre just way too nosy about what syd is up to these days. they end up finding about his secret pact with the demon to keep his mother alive and its up to you whether they end up helping him or trying to find a way out of it for him - another enemies to lovers. a classmate that just cant stand his casual attitude about everything and end up setting out to dig up any dirt on him that theyre sure he has. they find out about the pact etc. and end up growing a soft spot for him due to his circumstances.
pluto ; - either someone also homeless or just a regular ol delinquent type that forces friendship onto pluto and drags him along to really experience life beyond just surviving. bonus if they end up developing a romance and even after seeing pluto’s mutations they still just love him for who he is, m preferred for romance though.
ingrid ; - an angelic little goody two-shoes type who doesnt believe in magic and has never set foot in a party their whole life. they hear about ingrid’s escapades through the grapevine though and find themselves so curious about her. ingrid plunges them headfirst into her world, maybe a little romance sparks, maybe they just become fast friends after they find they actually enjoy the chaos that seems to follow ingrid around.
jasper ; - a normal person, probably not very well off, who initially worms their way into his life for a taste of the rich parties etc. they just wanna live like jasper does but quickly find themself with a lot more than they bargained for even after all the times jasper warned them that they shouldnt hang around him. friendship or romance, either way they quickly figure out about jaspers addictions and eventually he opens up to them about his past. just give me all the angst of them trying to navigate his fucked up situation and wondering if they even want to stay by him after knowing what he’s done.
yeseul ; - BEST friends. they have shared interest and hobbies, personalities mesh together so well and everything is just so perfect until they find out about her unconventional tastes. whether they confront her about it or hide that they know until she breaks and asks why theyve been acting so weird, i just want angst and conflict after she’s finally found her first best friend - alternatively someone just like her, possibly an actual serial killer or just a supernatural creature that takes an interest in the girl who’s nothing like what she seems.
cassian ; - a business partner who cassian’s actually known since he was a kid. probably around his age, either another heir or they just work for their own parents company. not sure what we’d do with this but i just love the idea of them having to act professional in front of other people but in private they can just be a regular couple of teenagers/young adults.
urie ; - someone who knew him/knew of him in high school but hasnt actually seen him since before he started homeschooling. possibly a dislike to hesitant friendship with a lot of bumps in the road with trying to navigate urie’s abrasive personality and assure him that theyre not here to make fun of him, they just want to actually get to know him - can you tell i love enemies to lovers. just give me a bully, not necessarily from his school, it could just be someone who loves to stir the pot and be nasty to people for no real reason probably because of personal trauma or its just their upbringing. despite this they seem to be popular etc, people keep making excuses for them etc. urie hates it and has almost actually fought them a couple of times until one day for some reason he actually defends them against someone who’s been particularly nasty to them. thus ensues a confusing and weirdly shaky truce?
kali ; - i love mentor type connections for kali. maybe its a young vampire or just anyone who’s recently been turned into something along those lines, even a werewolf. someone who cant return to their family or friends either because of what they are or because they have no one so kali takes them in and gives them the support they need. - (tw for mentions of torture) a forbidden love!!!! when kali was still young, she fell in love with a vampire hunter/shadowhunter who tricked her into thinking she loved her back only to capture her in order to torture kali with the intention of letting her die of starvation. now she’s older and stronger and is slightly past her grudge but still incredibly wary of humans like that but now she meets another hunter. a few not so friendly run-ins turn into a mutual understanding that kali is not a rouge vampire that needs killing but after they come to a truce kali finds herself running into them over and over again. it’ll take a lot to gain her trust an even then, their relationship is going to be difficult purely because of who they both are. (f only for this one)
ethan ; - seeing as ethan owns an apartment complex, one of the only nice ones that cost barely anything and actually house a surprising amount of supernatural beings much to the obliviousness of any humans living there. id love a plot for him involving one of his human tenants becoming a little too curious. usually he keeps to himself, only really interacting with anyone in the building in order to fix problems or make casual chat to see if anyone needs anything, but perhaps they keep trying to catch him for more than just small talk. eventually he finds himself accidentally enjoying their company but still tries to keep them at arms length. theyll find out about his true identity some way or another whether they overhear a conversation or manage to sneak into the top floor and see his place. just imagine the wonder of a human learning about the secret world living right under their noses, asking him for stories from his past, wanting to get closer to him but his reluctance because he knows that compared to him, human lifetimes are hardly a blink.
benji ; - i really want another forbidden vampire x hunter relationship for benji. him getting caught at a feeding club, always managing to escape but the hunter keeps finding him. eventually he just begs to be killed, spills his entire sob story about being unable to control himself and instead of them actually going through with it they just sit him down and ask how they can help. alternatively they strike a deal for helping him in exchange for selling out actual dangerous individuals. cue a unlikely relationship full of tension and clashing but also hurt and comfort uvu
louis ; - louis is a simple guy, very gentle and not confrontational in the slightest so honestly just give him a project. someone almost unhinged who he ends up trying to worry after only to be dragged into dangerous situation after dangerous situation. they drive him absolutely crazy but he cant stop wanting to look after them and help them.
scott & watson ; - a plot ive been wanting for the twins for so long is a paranormal investigator of some sort hearing about them and hunting them down or even just happening across them by accident. they get thrown in the deep end after realising the girls arent spirits themselves but unwilling hosts to something more powerful than theyve ever faced before. think like outlast 2 vibes of constantly thinking that everythings going to be okay only to be thrown a curveball and theyre back at square one until the eventual face-off with the entity controlling them.

yaaaay tuna time tuna time. ok so the manga is I Love Amy and its about a yandere girl making friends with the lesbian mc to get closer to her male crush but finds herself really enjoying spending time with her. very good stuff highly recommend. anyway I will be scalping this whole plot for my brainrot! as I'm basing this off a wlw manga please read yan and darling as being the same gender (ex: dazai with a male darling, higuchi with a female darling) thank u.
so, following the aforementioned plot, darling actually starts out as yans TARGET instead of yans crush, accidentally getting on their radar by being seen talking to yans current obsession one too many times during routine reconnaissance (stalking). obviously they need to get rid of them! theyre getting in the way! crush shouldn't ever talk to anyone else but them!!!!
when local freak loner weirdo yan suddenly asks if you want to hang out with them, alone, it occurs to you that you should be a little more cautious- but, truth be told, you've had a crush on them for a while... and you know its probably impossible that they swing your way, but couldn't hurt to give it a shot, right?
with this in mind (and lowkey kinda entranced by how pretty they are up close), you agree.
lucky for you theyre perceptive enough to sniff out that ur a fruit and thus a complete non-threat, so you live another day! and, to their surprise, they find themselves kind of enjoying hanging out with you.
yadda yadda yadda, the two of you strike a deal to help them get in good with their crush, theyve had pretty bad luck with this so far, but they seem to like YOU, so you can get them some one-on-one time! you're pretty bummed you were right about the person you like not being interested, but hey! theyre still your friend! as long as they can be happy, you’ll be happy for them! on their end, theyre just using you (or so they think). sure, you’re ok to hang out with or whatever, but your companionship doesnt mean anything compared to their crush. once they get what they want, youre pretty much donezo.
i wont go on for too much longer about this here but im sure you get the idea, over spending time with them as friends and dedicating so much of your time to trying to help them find their happiness, yan starts turning their attention on YOU instead. they find themself getting irritated when they catch you talking to other boys/girls, what did you suddenly get a s/o or something? are you gonna stop hanging out with them? you cant DO that youre their ONLY friend! or they’ll surprise themself by desperately wanting to pass up spending time with crush to go stay with you instead. or getting REALLY REALLY mad when they see people being rude to you when they used to not care. little things like that. i feel like this concept could be really good for soft yan stuff but you COULD make it darker if you wanna.
characters i think would work with this: bsd - dazai (specifically pm dazai cuz hes a freak with no social skills), akutagawa, poe, ranpo, sigma, higuchi, gin, lucy. genshin - childe, scaramouche, albedo, cyno, eula, ei (i feel a modern au would work best for ei here), rosaria, shenhe
- 🩹
something about the holidays has fried my brain but i cant let your asks go unanswered any longer !!!!! p.s i love amy is just wonderful thank you for the rec ^^ im just gonna go over this with childe because you deserve genshin content from me :< spoilers for childe's real name (tho i think everyone knows it by now lol) unedited!
context: X is the person ajax likes (as you can tell i am very good at coming up with names :>) some things here are taken from i love amy so give it a read !! it's totally worth it i promise~
Tumblr media
at the time, you couldn't come up with a single reason why ajax had approached you all those days ago, accompanied only by a menacing look. in fact, you could still recall how the malice in his eyes deepened once he caught sight of you stumbling your way over in his direction.
you had heard the rumors about him (like everyone else had), and while you didn't want to judge someone because of what others had to say, you couldn't deny the fear that consumed you when he stared at you with thinly veiled distaste—right after interrogating you about your relationship with the person you had just been conversing with. it occurred to you far too late that ajax had witnessed the conversation between you and X, and now you were about to be at the receiving end of the terrors you had only heard of in passing.
your brain went into overdrive thinking of an answer. childhood friends? what if he got jealous that you spent so much time with X, time he couldn't have? but if you lied about not knowing X, he'd come after you anyway if he found out the truth, right? so you tried to come up with a lukewarm answer, something to show that you weren't trying to meddle with his…potential relationship. whether you said the two of you were partners for a project, neighbors or family friends, whatever it was, it worked in convincing him that you weren't interested.
but it worked too well, as you soon came to realize, after noticing how ajax was attached to you constantly. at your response, he had lit up and quickly pulled you closer, declaring you would help him by gathering information and helping him plan for the perfect date (and of course, there was not a single moment of consideration for your say in the matter)
even though you insisted over and over again that you'd be no help, with no experience in dating or flirting with anyone, let alone someone as popular as X, and claiming you weren't close enough with them to ask such detailed questions, ajax was far from bothered. perhaps, in his eyes, you were the perfect sidekick—obedient enough to drag around like a sulking pet, but not so compliant that you weren't of some use, at the very least for entertainment. and maybe, just maybe, because he was starting to feel a little lonely.
what he didn't know at the time was that you, despite all the warnings and whispers, had a crush on him. you reasoned with yourself that most people would fall for him, if not for his fixation with X. and although you knew he was 100% infatuated with someone else, you had foolishly thought it wouldn't be the worst idea to be his friend. you had hoped that hanging out with him and being faced with the reality that he would never look twice at you would work as a bitter yet effective remedy to the flustered racing of your heart and the fluttering sensation that seized you.
surprisingly, ajax made for decent company, disregarding the pain of unrequited affection. all your time together was mostly spent talking about X, which you never complained about, but you also learned a little about him, like the fact that he had younger siblings and that he participated in a lot of archery competitions. it occurred to you for a moment, that given his track record, ajax being so well-versed with a weapon probably wouldn't end well, but you shut down that thought almost immediately. he may talk about wanting X all for himself and may have some concerning fantasies, but even he wouldn't go to such lengths, right?
the more time you spent with him, however, the fewer opportunities you actually had to talk to X. still, despite how little use he had for you, ajax still kept you by his side. maybe it was, in his eyes, a good thing that you were staying away from X. some part of you itched to tell him that you wouldn't betray him like that...not like it mattered to him. you knew he was only using you, either as an information source or a test subject, and even if it hurt to know he'd never care about you like he did X, you never once considered distancing yourself from him
you liked to think that he liked your company too, at least as an acquaintance. after all, since that first encounter, he hadn't threatened to snap your arm if you didn't tell him everything you were talking to X about. maybe that time he dragged you away mid-conversation with your friend should have been alarming, or maybe that other time when you woke up tied to a chair in his basement ("don't worry," he had brushed off your concerned look, "i only did this because you kept saying you were too busy to come over. anyways…") should have sent you running, but you justified it to yourself as his odd way of watching out for you.
or more likely, the warning signs just flew over your head because you couldn't imagine that he would be as creepy as the rumors said. you did idolize him to an extent that you tried to justify all his strange habits. it didn't matter much, anyway, since you were well aware this arrangement was temporary—you were only serving as replacement company until he finally got with X, and then your presence in his life would instantly be shut out.
because you were under the impression that it was all temporary, you didn't mind, even when he started overstepping into your personal matters. more than once you had to cancel meet-ups with friends in favor of spending time with him, and the few times you did manage to be away from him, ajax would interrogate you about every detail of your day without him, and at the very end would demand you tell him if you enjoyed being away from him, scowling until you placated him.
and then, the 'practice dates' started feeling a little too real. with him insisting on feeding you spoonfuls of dessert and latching onto your hand uncomfortably tight. but honestly, you couldn't complain, even if you knew something was wrong. going out with X didn't seem as much of a priority as it was a way to convince you that he desperately needed your help in 'practicing'.
all this while, you were under the impression your role was simply to be a good friend to ajax. naturally, when you had an opportunity to talk to X again after such a long time, you jumped to take it. what you didn't expect was for ajax to come up behind you, gently moving you aside to instead tower over X, glaring at the person he'd been pining over so desperately. the words that left him next were similar to the ones you heard all those months ago, except, these were the last words you expected him to say.
"you," he spat out, "what the hell were you talking to [name] about?"
bonus because i have too many thoughts about this :>
you getting an s/o. ajax is upset for many reasons. a) you never told him that you liked someone b) were you really going on weekly dates with your new partner?? you never even hung out with him that consistently! what, were you throwing away your friend just for this new guy? and c) how could you leave him behind like this?! suddenly, your new s/o is bombarded with the sensation that someone was constantly glaring at them, and then at every corner, ajax is standing there...just...watching. maybe he was just shy?
you manage to convince X to give him one chance. one date, so he can try to win them over. what you don't expect is for ajax to try stalling. he comes up with reasons for more practice dates, asks you for more 'tips', and if he absolutely has to go, he doesn't do anything that he was supposed to. the date is a fail, despite all the practicing he did. to you, he claims it was the nerves that got to him. come on, comrade! you gotta help him practice more now!

Jean x Joseph, in the time travel au by yuki dragon where Mc is transported into the live studio audience the day of the 1984 incident after watching the tape and somehow interferes preventing Joseph's death
So I have no idea what that AU is, I haven't read that fic(?) but it doesn't sound like my sorta vibe. I'm sure it was lovingly constructed and clearly people like it, but that sort of AU is like... immensely boring to me? Just cause it takes the teeth out of everything and makes me wonder what's meant to happen.
Like, there's many ways to achieve the same goals in a more interesting way to me. If you just want a character to hang out with Joseph and Jean, you can just... make a character who knows them?
If you want a modern person/Sunshine specifically being sent back in time, a much more interesting AU in my opinion would be them getting transported back to when Joseph got hired as Jack. They know he's gonna die, they don't know when or how or why, and they have to scramble to figure everything out before it happens. It leaves a lot more room for exploring characters and motivations and gives the AU a plot to move it forward. You can have fun and wacky hijinks of someone trying to adjust to the 80s and hanging out with Jean and Joseph, but with something to anchor it to.
Or if you just wanna explore the Jean and Joseph dynamic post-attempted murder (which is a delicious idea imo) you can just have Jean fail in his murder attempt? But I don't really see the point in bringing Sunshine all the way to the 80s just for that. Anyone could've stopped the attempt.
Anyway I'm sure there's plenty of people interested in that AU, I'm just really not one of them, so I won't be doing anything with it. Sorry! But maybe if you want more of it, you could reach out to the writer of it and ask them? I'm sure they'd love to talk more about their AU! And probably would rather write it themself than have someone else writing in their AU.
But uhhh if any of those other ideas tickled your fancy feel free to ask me to/help me develop them more~

holy shit your object show as a whole sounds so interesting if you woulnd't mind i want to hear more
okie lets go! (long ramble ahead)
My show is called Roll Credits!
plot wise its just your standard object show with challenges eliminations and a huge plot thing later in the season! the characters is where it gets fun ;-)
Tumblr media
here are the first drawings of most of the characters. its not the best, but they're all here! lets go in order:
Water Bottle(she/her): Athletic! likes sports and excersise. complete opposite of Towel.
Towel(she/her): Lazy! likes television and sleeping. complete opposite of Water Bottle.
Textbook(he/him): Smart! is a green book! i have since updated his design, and added glasses and some blocks of text on his cover. also BAD AT TALKING
Rubik's Cube(he/him): Organized! basically my younger brother's self insert. dont know much about him but hey he seems cool.
Sugar Cookie(she/her): My girl! love her! first character of them all,an oc before i wanted to make a show. Ive talked all about her before, and I love her <3
Snowflake(he/him): honestly he's the one ive thought the least about. cool guy, really chill(pun intended)
Drum(they/them): Likes music i guess. I love them but all conversations end up in an argument because of the ~transphobic family~
Bowl(he/they/it): Cool guy. also a god. this was drawn before he was a god. doesn't talk i also have an original drawing for God Bowl that i dont really like anymore but if you wanna see it... (more lore to come!)
Bill(he/him): Rich! Bowl's best friend, and talks a lot. makes up for Bowl's silence.
Sunglasses(both he/him): the hosts! individually their names are Sun and Glass. Sun is excitable and energetic, and Glass is a cool guy.
Measuring Tape(she/they): Mom friend? i think? no matter what I am in love with their shape!!! she's so cute!!1
Glow Stick(she/her): rowdy teenager! likes to party and have fun. Her emotions do get really big(like me!) and she changes mood really intensely really quickly.
Flashlight(she/her): Cute girl! love her! she's the youngest of the group. kind to everyone, knows everyone, but doesn't have any real friends. Until now! with compassion she and Glow Stick become good friends :)
Speaker(he/him): didn't have a personality, but now he still doesn't! yknow how Rob in TAWOG forces his way from a background character to the villain? Speaker's kinda like that. doesn't have a personality, but hacks into the settings of the show to give himself one.
Pinecone(he/him):!!!!! the angry one!!!! used to be a criminal. he has been cloned!! and he doesn't really know it. as far as Pinecone knows, he got hit with a sciencey beam and thats it.
Marble(he/him):uuuuhh a last minute addition. dont know much about him. :/
Key(he/him): very calm. Kinda like Candle II. his eyes are always closed because when he opens them theyre so shiny it would blind everyone. why? you'l never know(unless you ask him(he polishes them(with bleach)))
Twig(she/her): TWIG!!!! Love her!!! very soft spoken and loves her leaf. doesn't understand people all the time, but she tries :o)
Mushroom(she/her): the mediator. Likes gardening, and tries to keep her alliance from falling apart.
those are all the main characters! there are a few side characters like the mafia, their parents, and the gods.
okie the mafia:
Tumblr media
Coney(he/any): Pinecone's clone. wants to distance themself from him a lot, so he became a criminal! leads a band of friends despicable objects.
Poinsettia(she/her): tries to stay calm. Tall. super cool
Butter Knife(they/them): anxious to all tomorrows. i have never seen them not anxious.
Tie(he/she): chaotic. has maybe killed someone for real......? she wont tell.
honestly the mafia is just Team Rocket level evil, but Coney honestly tries to be bad.
their parents are just a few things ive thought about. Sugar Cookie's parents are Chocolate Chip Cookie and Cake, Rubik's cube's parents are Puzzle and Paint Pallet, and Measuring Tapes parents are Ruler and Tape. Ive come up with more(not all of them).
TAPE!!!! LOOK AT HIM!!! HE IS SO SHAPED!!!
Tumblr media
the gods are still a bit of a mystery to me. there are twelve of them, (all dishware) but the only ones that are really important and fleshed out are Bowl and Plate. Plate was Bowl's caretaker when it was young, and after Bowl ran away, she got really depressed and holed up in the gods' realm. they all have varying numbers of eyes and wings.
here's a picture of Plate and a ladle guy i might make a god.
Tumblr media
okie those are all the characters! (not even all of them I still havent mentioned Doll or any of the alliances ;))

HOLY SHIT 🧱 MOD!
I have questions for you!!! Do you have a grumblr blog? Is 🧱 anyone around???? Thabk you for taking an interest in my guy i love your asks!
Now to your questions
2. What's your oc's orientation? (Romantic/sexual/platonic alterous ect) Do they have opinions about it?
Human GT would label himself as bi, troll GT would say pan if he knew what that means, he really doesnt care about other peoples genders at all
3. How did your oc discover themself? Did something cause them to question, or did they always know?
I dont have a whole lot to say about his sexuality so i might answer most or all of these for gender instead cause GT is very trans
If he didn't "always know" he sure did figure it out young, he spent the first few (very few, like 2) sweeps hanging out with only girl(s), so clocked it as soon as he met a guy
8. Have they had struggles with their identity, be it due to internal or external reasons?
YES, both internal and external, internal out of fear of how others would react and he was right to be scared, i cant give a lot of info on the external part cause thats lore relevant, so if you wanna know youre gonna go digging into his life and dig deep
(yes im shamelessly trying to get you curious, go dig!)
9. Are there cultural or lore specific aspects to their identity? If applicable, does their species affect it
Absolutely! The whole concept of identity is extremely important to his character/lore actually, him being a troll affects only in so far as his genuine love for troll kind, and ,of course, in all the ways living in murder planet affects a person
11. Is your oc open about their identity? Are they more lowkey or more blunt about it? Why or why not?
Hes not HIDING it, hes even told 1 or 2 people, but he doesnt actively talk about it much, if you ask hell tell you, but he wont usually start the conversation
NOW ONTO THE ASKS ABOUT YOUR WONDERFUL MOD! ME!
17. Do you share identity with any of your ocs? Which ones?
We both transmasc but hes way more of a guy then i am, outside of that we share nothing, hes very pan im very aroace
(he may be a tiny bit a-spec but thats cause all my characters end up a tiny bit a-spec)
18. Do you prefer to give your ocs specific labels, or keep it unspecified? Why? If applicable, do you change their labels depending on circumstance?
Depends on the character, most stay unlabeled tho, unless its plot relevant i dont see the point in labeling them, i did change/add a label ir 2 but those were special circumstances
21. Free ramble card wee
About me? Theres not a whole lot to say
Im aroace, dont-ask-me-about-my-gender, and Brazilian, thats not related to pride or anything its just true, AMA? I dont have much to say
About him? HOLY MOLLY
Hes so trans guys, its so relevant thats hes trans someone go poke at him about it! Hes a little weirdo of a guy, there are so many levers are details and contradictions in him hows he not exploded yet
I wanna say so much cause i dont know how much yall are gonna figure out but also i cant cause spoilers! !!!!!!!!!
The more you know about him the more confusing he gets (thats what i get for rping, gotta keep thinking about him)
If i had to resume him into one question it would be
"what would it take (how much comfort, fear, pain, friendship) to make you willingly give up your identity?"
This is such an unfocused rant but i have so many thooooooughts
Thanks for the ask!!!! TELL ME ABOUT 🧱

hi op what are your thoughts on uhhhh *spins wheel* sasha's season 2b arc (hope that's not too broad a subject)
edit: putting this under a cut bc it got LONG but. enjoy (???)
okay I gotta start by saying I didn't expect the depth of it at ALL; I knew Sash was featured prominently in the ending episodes of s2 based off of what my friend informed me, but like. I was not expecting 4.5 episodes to be almost ENTIRELY centered on their character arc and design (the .5 being the first half of True Colors).
that being said, I think Sash's 2b arc is PHENOMENAL bc of the way the nuance in it is written so incredibly well. this character is about to perform the most antagonistic move that they've pulled in the whole series so far, which is the act of betraying both Anne and Marcy in order to support Grime and get them home safe, if they so choose to go home (as an aside, I think at this point Sash has probably decided that she likes it more in Amphibia than back home, and there's one line that I'll get to that seems to be VERYYYY indicative of that. and if this is the case, it makes sense to me why Sasha would want to help Grime at all and why they don't really seem quite eager to follow Anne and Marcy back home. but! important to note that they still give those two the choice to go back if they wish, because at the end of the day Sash loves them and wouldn't try to force them to stay). and yet we see!! this back and forth!! this FIGHT that's happening in their mind, the way there's a flash of guilt they express at the very end of The Third Temple directly after confirming to Grime that things are still going according to plan, their convo w Anne at the end of The Dinner, the entire plot arc of BotB, and ofc the Sashanne duel in True Colors. I want to make an analysis post for each of these episodes because they're so fucking PACKED w shit to analyze, but I'll try my best to touch on all points here.
obviously we first learn of Sasha's plans to betray Anne and Marcy in The Third Temple. but what's important is that throughout the entire episode, there's several points where Sash switches back and forth between manipulation and honesty. I can talk abt this w confidence just based off of the whole. *gestures vaguely at myself.* but Sasha's initial apology in this episode was sheer manipulation, I think we all know that. however, when Sasha has to do their final test in the temple, those few lines they exchange w Anne in the moments before they raise themself up off the floor and launch themself into battle... those were genuine. they know they've been a shitty friend, and they're willing to accept that. so you have this game, almost, where Sash keeps flipping between putting on a mask to ensure they can keep up their facade until Grime secures the city and genuinely acknowledging their behavior and knowing that what they are doing is not going to sit well w Anne and Marcy.
so with that, The Third Temple sets the premise for the rest of the episodes of the season as far as Sasha's character arc. The Dinner is such a good fucking episode to follow with, because it hammers in the fact that Sasha has not changed. what it ALSO hammers in is she is still acting in her own self-interest - to put it in her words, she wants to get the friendship back under control. they still lash out, they still have a short fuse, they're still heavily opinionated and rough around the edges and prickly because this is an environment where they feel threatened. they're finally reuniting with the two people that mean the absolute most to them, only to realize they've been left out of the narrative. also not for nothing, but their trauma in Reunion got joked about in this episode which led to them blowing up over it, and like. I'm giving that one a pass bc man. anyway. at the end of the episode they say they like who they are, but it's said with a frown, which I think is fucking GENIUS. because there's an actual meaning to this line - they don't ACTUALLY like who they are. we have plenty of evidence that they don't like themself. what they MEAN is that they don't want to change, because that would mean giving up a security that they need in order to keep themself together. AND THIS IS DEMONSTRATED CRYSTAL CLEAR IN BOTB. they literally PURPOSEFULLY detach themself from Anne and Marcy bc they know they want control but they ALSO know that their behavior is just going to hurt the other two, so instead of compromising, they just go hey I'm gonna do my thing and you guys can do yours. and we'll both get what we want. and if that's not evidence that this character is fucking GRAPPLING with how to grow and change as a person, idk what is
and then. sigh. we get to True Colors. ofc Sash goes through on their betrayal - they're loyal to a fucking T once you dig beneath the surface, and they wouldn't just not follow through for Grime. what is absolutely KEY here is the fact that they are still leaving room for their friends' best interests, as in they're not trapping them in Amphibia but rather explaining how they're gonna help Grime take over, implying they'll go back home once they're done, but if Anne and Marcy wanna go back now, that's cool. if she didn't give a fuck abt their wellbeing, she'd just keep them there w her. but she doesn't. and then Anne starts retaliating, and. well. we ALL know Sasha does NOT do well with criticism of any kind. so they just go okay I'll send you back now then (and this is STILL an action motivated by what they think is best for Anne). BUT THE LINE. OHHHH THE SUPER IMPORTANT LINE THAT MADE MY HEAD SNAP UP AND MADE ME PHYSICALLY GO "YIKES" OUT LOUD. is Sasha saying "say hi to your parents for me." it's like a goddamn full-on sucker punch packed into one sentence - seven words, and all of a sudden we know for sure this kid does not have a good home life. I could go into elaboration on Sasha and the way she views familial ties throughout the show, but I won't bc that's gonna take this already super long answer and make it even worse. regardless, Sasha has once again flipped the switch and is indulging in their worst behaviors, which is full on controlling and holding power to act on what THEY think is best in the moment. and the moment Anne snaps, the moment Anne yells about Sasha being a horrible person, literally EVERYTHING shifts and the reaction from Sasha is VISCERAL. and what I mean by that is. it's not just the look in their eyes at those words. it's not just the sudden and complete loss of meaning, of self, of motivation after they've lost Anne's support. it's not just the way they stare at their own reflection in a sword that represents the color of the person they're trying their hardest to protect. it's the way that for the rest of the goddamn episode, they spend it trying to do the one thing they fear the most: giving up control. I'm gonna elaborate on this whole aspect in a different ask bc I was asked abt it, but the way Sasha acts towards Anne after the fallout, especially at the beginning of the duel and during the confrontation w Andrias, is fucking monumental. they struggle so much with how to change their own behavior, yet the very moment they lose the support of the people they've been trying so hard to love and care for in their roundabout way, they can change the way they act. because who the fuck is Sasha Waybright without Anne Boonchuy and Marcy Wu? in her mind, no one. she doesn't have any idea of who she is outside of this, so ofc she can act differently when she's thrown out in the cold. after all, it doesn't take much to warp an identity that doesn't exist.
tldr; god. how do I sum this up. Sash's 2b arc is smth that's incredibly intricate and complex from the way they constantly flip between desperately needing control and feeling guilty that this is the way they need to live. and True Colors is able to finally demonstrate to us the final piece in how they operate - without their friends, they lose sense of who they are, and their personality comes undone. in 4.5 episodes the writers managed to give us 1000 aspects to their character that we hadn't gotten to explore, and we can see that Sasha was never meant to be the villain. so. final review is that's some good shit👍

HI LEAF IVE BEEN HYPERFIXATING ON MC STORY MODE AND ON STAMPYCAT PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE TELL ME YOUR THOUGHTS ABOUT STAMPYCAT BEING THE WHITE PUMPKIN IT SOUNDS SO COOL
HELLO HI YES I AM MORE THAN WILLING TO EXPLAIN
Before I start I wanna give a huge shout out to @mephones-declining-mental-health who was actually the first to point a lot of this out. We spent a lot of time putting this all together and she deserves a ton of credit for it. So go check them out.
ok so mcsm is an old game so quick refresher on episode 6: Jesse and his gang end up in another world and are put into a murder-mystery type situation. They’re trapped in the mansion due to zombies and have to survive until the day while the person who invited them all to the mansion (who goes by “The White Pumpkin”) kills them off one-by-one in order to obtain the Enchanted Flint And Steel. Which Jesse is also trying to get. Minus the main cast, everyone in this murder mystery is based off and voiced by famous minecraft YouTubers from the time. This was a pretty genius move on TellTale’s part because it meant the players were already going in with a certain level of attachment to these characters, allowing the game to kill them off in a way that would be emotionally impactful without effecting the plot of the overall story that much.
The people you meet in the mansion are the following youtubers: CaptainSparklez, TorqueDawg, StampyCat, TheDiamondMinecart, LDShadowLady, StacyPlays, and CassieRose
Multiple of these YouTubers are killed off (though some can be either saved or killed depending on your choices) and [spoiler warning] Cassie Rose is revealed to be the white pumpkin at the end. Her motivation being that she’s stuck away from her home world for and desperate to get back.
Now here’s the thing: that doesn’t make Any sense.
Cassie doesn’t have a single line or any piece of evidence that would necessarily point to her being the white pumpkin. The only real evidence that points to her feels so last minute and forced. And just completely disregards any other scene in which you were collecting evidence.
This would be less frustrating if there weren’t multiple other people that had far more evidence against them. But the one who has the most undeniable evidence against them? StampyCat.
Now I don’t know if they changed the story halfway through development or if the writers at TellTale are just bad at their jobs (equally likely but there is some evidence to suggest Cassie was not always the intended White Pumpkin) but Stampy has the most evidence, best motive, and would have just been a very interesting villain entirely.
Let’s go over everything.
So for starters. The first murder.
Spoiler alert! But the first murder is TorqueDawg. He stands under a dispenser that shoots him with a poison tipped arrow and he dies.
Now, tipped arrows were a relatively new thing at the time, and the game makes a point out of this. A lot of the characters in the mansion Don’t Know what a tipped arrow is. But a few do.
After the second murder (which we’ll address in a moment) you have the ability to interrogate three of the characters. LDShadowLady, TheDiamondMinecart, and StampyCat
Lizzie (LDShadowLady) is fully aware of the tipped arrows. Both Dan (TheDiamondMinecart) and Stampy point this out. When you ask her about it, she says she does know how to make them and taught others about it.
One of the people she talked about the tip arrows to is Cassie, aka the white pumpkin. So story-wise it does make sense. But Lizzie also states that Stampy had asked her about the tipped arrows, and specifically how to make them. So we know he has full knowledge of them.
Tumblr media
But what does Stampy say when you ask him about the tipped arrows?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“I’ve never seen anything like it before”
This is Never addressed. Not once. Stampy blatantly lies about knowledge of a murder weapon when he seemingly has no reason to do so and he gets away with it.
So Stampy 1. Has the ability to create the weapon used for the murder and 2. Felt the need to hide this ability.
So that’s pretty suspicious right off the bat.
Now these interviews are caused by the second murder. So let’s talk about that.
Second murder: CaptainSparklez is pushed into a sand pit and suffocated by a very elaborate redstone trap. The trap is activated by one of the buttons on the table that they’re all sitting at.
Each of the buttons activates the trap, but only one of them was actually pressed. The connection we’re supposed to make here is that the White Pumpkin set up multiple buttons to keep suspicion off of themself.
The people sitting at the buttons were StampyCat, TheDiamondMinecart, LDShadowLady and Jesse’s friend Lucas.
Tumblr media
Now you’ll notice that CassieRose, the actual White Pumpkin, is not on this list.
TheDiamondMinecart (Dan) is the one who presses the button. Dan is supposed to be a Red Herring here as he didn’t know what the button would do and pressed it anyway (though he’s a bad red herring. And we’ll discuss that in a moment). Even with the knowledge that it wasn’t the white pumpkin who pressed it, it doesn’t make any sense for her to have not been sitting at a seat with a button. And this is never really addressed either. Making this scene a complete waste of time, unless of course the original white pumpkin was intended to be one of those 4 people.
The interviews give us a lot of knowledge about the interpersonal relationships of the characters and what their skill levels are. Such as what I discussed earlier about the tipped arrows. But one thing that stays consistent is Jesse’s insistence that whoever the white pumpkin is, they must be good at redstone.
And he’s right. Every trap set by the white pumpkin at this point was redstone activated. Whoever made it must have been very skilled with it. And out of all the suspects there’s only one who has that level of ability. Stampy.
Both Dan and Lizzie make a point of saying that Stampy is a master of redstone and his skill is unmatched. But when Stampy is asked about this, his first instinct is to lie about it. When you catch him in this lie, he immediately back-tracks.
Tumblr media
So Stampy
Has knowledge on how to build the first murder weapon (which wasn’t knowledge everyone had at the time)
Completely lies about this knowledge and is never called out for it
Was sitting at one of the buttons that caused the second murder
Is the only one with the redstone knowledge capable of creating the white pumpkins traps.
Lies about his redstone ability
So there you go! That’s a ton of evidence against him! And pretty much no evidence against Cassie other than the fact that she also knew about tipped arrows at the time.
In fact the dinner scene confirms Cassie can’t be a suspect unless we’re supposed to believe she just hoped someone else would do the job for her. Which considering she’s later characterized to be super paranoid and unwilling to leave things to chance, I doubt it.
While looking through secret tunnels you manage to find a secret conversation between Dan and Lizzie where Dan admits that he was the one who pushed the button on accident and that he feels super guilty about it. Jessie spots the white pumpkin looking through a painting at this moment. And considering he’s also seeing Dan and Lizzie, and he knows where Lucas is, out of all the people sitting near buttons, Stampy is the only one left. If the White Pumpkin was someone who was sitting at one of the buttons (which it should have been) it would have had to be Stampy
Tumblr media
Now I do think having Dan push the button is realistic and fine. It’s a button. Everyone likes pushing buttons. But the fact that the white pumpkin would Bet On That Happening and not sit near a button at all feels like it couldn’t possibly be right, especially because everything else is so thought through and calculated. It feels out of character for Cassie to do. Cassie being the white pumpkin also means those interview scenes were an entire waste of time. They gave us no real information that could be used in the case and crossed off the real murderer as a possible suspect.
If *Stampy* was the murderer however, this would have made a lot more sense. As the interviews would have given us a lot of info about him and against him. Plus his relationship to the others. Even if Dan turned out to be the one who pressed the button, we still would have gotten that important info on Stampy. Not to mention that Dan just so happening to press the button before the White Pumpkin got a chance is a lot more believable than the White Pumpkin betting on that.
Now the way the story actually goes is that Stampy is revealed to have the enchanted flint and steel (even though before he claimed to not even want it) and as I’ve said, Cassie is revealed to be the white pumpkin.
We learn she’s the white pumpkin because she’s the only one who didn’t have a portrait of herself with a red X over it, which is a sign someone had died. Meaning she was never intended to die at all.
Now because the writing team didn’t put any actual evidence of her being guilty before this, they slip in a Not At All Subtle clue that she’s the white pumpkin.
The white pumpkin’s hide out is Filled with calico cats. The same cats as Winslow (the cat that Cassie had kept with her). And while this is obviously supposed to tell us it’s her, it doesn’t really make much sense as a clue. Considering Winslow is just one cat. A bunch of cats that look like him is sort of out-of-nowhere. She’s had no real evidence against her other than the final connection, meanwhile all signs seem to point to Stampy.
Tumblr media
This doesn’t necessarily mean anything but I do think it’s worth mentioning that there is one character who Does have a ton of animals like the ones we see in the white pumpkin’s room. And that’s Stampy. He has a ton of dogs that could have easily taken the place of the cats. But anyway.
This last second Right At The End clue seems to almost indicate that there was some change in writing half way through the process. Before Stampy is revealed to have the flint and steel (which is something that any character could have confessed to and the story would be pretty much the same), the story makes a lot more sense with the idea that Stampy was originally intended to be the white pumpkin. We can also gather that it seems they intended the white pumpkin to be a man, as the protagonists refer to the white pumpkin by he/him pronouns and that assumption is never addressed when they learn the white pumpkin is a girl.
Either that or the writers are just. bad. Which is also very likely.
That’s all the evidence I have. So let’s talk about how story-wise it would have been so much more interesting to make Stampy the white pumpkin.
Cassie is great. But she didn’t get a lot of actual screen time in game until her villain reveal because she really never had any evidence against her. Stampy however got a lot of screen time and was generally the fan favorite when it came to the youtubers that were in episode 6. He was one of the most beloved youtubers at the time and the writers took that into account.
Whenever Stampy was accused of something, he’d play the innocent card. He’d say things like “it’s me! Stampy! I’m everyone’s friend!” In an attempt to get sympathy. Instead of defending himself, he played at the emotions of the people around him. He was played as the sweet innocent character who wouldn’t do anything wrong. I think this would have made him a Great twist villain. It would have made a lot more sense for the end scene as well, as the other youtubers defend Cassie, saying she would “never do something like that”. Which never really made sense considering they all knew one of them must have done it, and none of them had any real connection to her. Defending Stampy or being shocked would have made a lot more sense regarding the relationships of the characters.
His villain reveal would have been so much more surprising as well, as Cassie’s tone quickly shifts to much more malicious once she admits to being the White Pumpkin. And while I do believe shes a very good actor, I do believe the scene would have had an extra punch if the lines were delivered by someone who was previously set up to be the trustworthy friend who wouldn’t hurt a fly
Tumblr media
But it’s Cassie’s motive specifically that I think would have fit So Well if Stampy had taken her place.
Cassie wants the flint and steel so that she can return to her home dimension. She’a been stuck here for a very long time and is willing to do anything to get back home. Specifically saying that she needs to get out of this “stupid world”.
Tumblr media
Now this will only really make sense for those who are familiar with StampyCat outside of mcsm. But I’ll do my best to explain.
Stampy, as a YouTuber, was known for his “lovely world”. The minecraft world that he loved and cared about a lot. If the plot line was that Stampy specifically was separated from his lovely world, it would have been a great motive that he was desperate to get back it it.
So uh. Yeah! I think that’s all I got. I’m sure me and Worm aren’t the only people who have come to this conclusion but I’m just here to put it all into writing. I’m not sure if this was all a last minute change or sloppy writing but either way I think it’s interesting!

im struggling so much with sort of, finishing coming up with my plot. Specially with like, the in between of it all. I cant come up with any ideas or conflicts a bitch is struggling 😩
That totally makes sense! It’s an understandable struggle to have, and it can take a lot to get past sometimes. So, let’s talk about:
Creating Conflicts
As you probably know by now, a story is built on a single, developed conflict. Something happens and a character has to choose or do something, and the rest of the story follows from there. It sounds... somewhat simple, but making it into a full story with characters and subplots and... all that is a lot. Let’s break it down!
It’s important to remember that most stories are basically just one big butterfly effect situation. You decide you to ride the bus to school instead of walking, and suddenly there are giant radioactive spiders taking over the city and they want you to be their leader. But... how did we get there?
If you’re telling the story of how this happened, you might pull the classic, “Well, one thing led to another, and now we’re here.” Which is basically how plot structuring works most of the time.
Your Initial Conflict
We know how conflict works: something happens that either prevents us from getting something we want, or there’s the threat of that happening.
So, what would make sense as a first step? Figure out what your character wants. Step two: figure out how to keep that from happening, or at least how to make that path as complicated as you can. Some examples:
Your S/O is kidnapped by the Big Bad. You want them to stay alive and safe, so you decide to make sure that happens personally.
There’s an apocalypse being orchestrated by a radioactive spider in your city. You want the world to continue existing.
Someone offers a reward of $100,000 for whoever catches a serial killer. You want that money.
The strongest conflicts are the ones in which the main character shows agency. They chose to involve themself in this issue, and they continue choosing to stay involved. They have a voice, and they’re using it; they’re not just being pulled through the plot. In essence: something happens, and your character chooses to do something about it.
So we have the initial conflict. First step: done!
Tumblr media
Now comes... everything after. Here’s where we bring in:
The Butterfly Effect
A story is a series of causes and effects. Do your best to think of a plot that’s directly affected by the choices of your main character; when they do things, they change the story. They have control. Think of your plot in a way that’s something similar to:
Event 1 happens.
MC reacts to Event 1 by doing Action 1.
Action 1 causes Event 2.
MC reacts to Event 2 by doing Action 2.
Action 2 causes Event 3.
What happens, and what does it cause? When your main character’s actions have a direct impact on the path and the flow of the story, they create an aspect of control and agency that some characters lack. Suddenly, your main character is creating the plot as opposed to just moving through it.
So how can we make this interesting?
Put your character at odds with what they want, and their choices will directly affect if or how they achieve that want. Let the weight of their choices and actions create uncertainty.
This brings us back to the concept of conflict that created the first incident; it’s this same concept that will continue to drive the story. If your character wants to save their dog from eating chocolate and their options are to leave uncovered chocolate on the floor or to put it in a pantry at your head height, then... it’s obvious what you’re going to do. There’s really no question about it.
Interest comes when your character’s options are equally as bad; they have to cut their losses. In a build-your-own-adventure story I’m writing, at one point my MC has to decide between killing her mother and killing her father. Neither of these are choices she wants to make, but she has to make one. Here’s where we create uncertainty and interest.
All in all: let your character make decisions, and let those decisions carry real weight.
Generating Ideas
But what if we can’t think of any ideas for our next event or decision? Then we brainstorm, and we generate new ideas... then we choose one. Here’s a method that hasn’t failed me yet, so I’m going to recommend it.
Get your favorite notebook, and write down five answers for each question (try to make each one as unique as you’re able):
What’s the best thing that could happen right now?
What’s the worst thing that could happen right now?
What could happen that would raise the most questions?
What could happen that would change your characters’ emotions the most?
What would keep your character from getting what they want the most?
And suddenly we have 25 possibilities for moving forward, which (I assume) is 25 more than we had a few moments ago.
Which ones look the most promising? Which have the most potential for development? What I do is take two or three of the most promising ideas and write a few paragraphs of each one, and by that time, one of them is usually making the most sense to me.
I know this was a lot - hopefully this helps! If you have any follow-ups or clarifications you wanna make, my ask box is right there for ya!

this song hit me so hard.
not only is it a perfect send-off for Sarah Lynn’s character, but for me, it really sets off the episode. this is where i first understood what it was about, and a feeling of dread consumed me.
something i’ve always found interesting about sarah lynn’s character is how much herb influenced her. we know how much bojack acted as a father figure to her growing up, but there’s little talk of how herb also helped form her childhood.
we all know that bojack raised sarah lynn on tv, but it is rarely spoken about how herb created her, birthed her. herb is a writer, and bojack is an actor. in themselves, that holds value. writing represents the beginning of something, and acting represents seeing something through. sarah lynn is her full name, and even her closest friends and people she’s known a long time refer to her as such. in a lot of ways, this reflects how we view celebrities. by never calling them by their first name, they end up becoming a caricature of themself, of what they represent, not who they are. sarah lynn’s existence on earth has, since the beginning, been defined by everyone’s perception of her, to the point that she defines herself that way too.
bojack tells sarah lynn that life is about her fans, and pleasing them. sarah lynn was never once allowed to be her own person. as a child, she was loved by many for her cuteness, in her teens for her sexiness, in her young adult life for her ‘chaos’, and when she passes she is loved for her tragedy.
while bojack represents a father figure who ruined her, herb represents one who loved her. todd says in the face of depression that at some point someone held him and saw nothing but beauty and love. this is herb. he saw a little girl, and gave her life, whereas bojack saw a little girl and gave her death.
but in sarah lynn’s eyes, they were both her dad. they were both people who could care for her, and make her feel a little less alone, especially as the years go on. after herb left the show, bojack became herb to her. but bojack is an actor. if a writer is faced with a plot hole in their writing, they can fix it. if an actor is faced with a plot hole, they can’t do much, and will likely eventually ensure that the plot hole makes it through. in sarah lynn’s life, herb was the one who could have helped change her and help her. bojack, at that point, couldn’t have, and saw her life to its end.
‘the overture’s a lifetime, but the show it short’. bojack’s top moment was figuring it out, the overture to his career. the show they end up making, horsin’ around, ends up defining the most of the rest of bojack’s life until this point.
the second verse of this song is sarah lynn performing, as she did for most of her life. it’s the sarah lynn that the world saw her as. the sarah lynn that bojack saw when he asked her to guest star on his show. the sarah lynn whose death took away bojack’s life of riches.
end of the song, however, shows the vulnerability of sarah lynn. the sarah lynn who’s last words were ‘i wanna be an architecht’. the sarah lynn who ended up with an actor instead of a writer. the sarah lynn who bojack failed. the sarah lynn who never got a chance.
‘a song you taught me when i was small’. her life has been a performance. her personal identity has been a performance. the actor ensured that. performing your whole life leaves you without any semblance of what is real. but a parent teaching their small child a song? that’s something real. my dad and i both have good singing voices, but my mom does not. her teaching me old icelandic folk songs when i couldn’t fall asleep as a kid, that was real. ‘a song you taught me when i was small’ is a song, maybe the only song in sarah lynn’s life that is real.
sarah lynn is one of the most heartbreaking characters i’ve ever seen. not only does she represent the kids whose lives were taken away from them, and their deaths given to them. but she also represents some sort of lost hope. early on in her introduction in the show, she says she’s going to die tragically young. she knows what her life is, and she accepts it. after a certain point, she probably understands that bojack is not herb, and she learns to accept it.
hearing bojack say sarah lynn’s name is heartbreaking. hearing her say his is even more so, in some ways. whenever she says it, she seems excited. he obviously means a lot to her, even if she knows, deep down, that he shouldn’t.
in conclusion, sarah lynn is tragic. she is witty, and filled with hope, and devastatingly self aware of her place. sarah lynn broke my heart over and over again, and this song honestly fills me with dread as we get past the overture, and enter the show.

re: your tag - tell me more about why D&D is a bad ttrpg! I get so frustrated with people trying to mod D&D for different settings & campaigns when there are so many other systems out there that might do exactly what they're looking for and better!
Okay so first of all, disclaimer needed: I’ve only played dnd before, all my experience of other systems is from actual play (please I’m begging u to listen to Friends At The Table), but even that level of exposure is enough to see how dnd is, uh, Very deeply flawed and only gets by on the fact that people don’t know that better stuff exists (or, they do but they don’t wanna try it on principle, I guess).
My main thing is, and this is a matter of both the mechanics and the culture surrounding the game, that dnd is very bad at doing what a ttrpg sets out to do. Which is, a ttrpg is supposed to be a way of generating story in a way that’s spontaneous and collaborative, and of course there are a lot of ways to do that, but everything about dnd is designed to resist that drive. The amount of power the dm holds (both socially and mechanically) automatically sets them against the character players, and creates a space where the other players are encouraged to be completely passive and allow the dm to essentially have final say on what does and doesn’t go. Obviously this is partly an issue of who you’re playing with and whether they know how to be respectful, but the game leans into it by encouraging the dm to do all worldbuilding work themself and often hold secrets about it, and also through the way the dc of a roll is always the dm’s discretion. It doesn’t matter how well you rolled, at the end of the day, they can just say you failed, and if they’re smart they’ll just never tell u that they changed the dc behind ur back, but they’re perfectly capable within the rules and culture of the game to just change it based on what they like. This, needless to say, does not exactly cultivate good faith.
This is what I was saying in my tags: the issue of character players being passive and expecting to have a story told at them is a real problem, yes, and those players should engage and take responsibility for their part in generating plot and characterisation, but it’s an artefact of an extant (and now cyclic) problem, wherein the players with different roles aren’t encouraged to communicate or work together.
Like, one of the other things that feels really overlooked in dnd circles is the idea of consent and negotiation, the idea that the players should be able to, at any point, say to each other that they don’t want to touch a topic, or that they’re uncomfortable with where the story is going; a lot of people seem to implicitly think that it’s just not a big enough deal to actually talk about those things, or, at best, they assume you’ll say something without encouraging you to. There’s this assumption that if you don’t like something it’s your problem, rather than a collaborative effort to create a space in which everyone feels secure, and trusts the other people at the table enough to speak up without fear of getting dismissed.
That also leads into the issue of excessively built-out combat mechanics, with disproportionately little by way of anything else. It’s never encouraged by the rules to set boundaries for what kinds of violence you’re willing to see or commit in-game, or discuss the implications of depicting those things; and it’s assumed that combat is the main thing you’re there for. Combining that with the shocking level of bioessentialism in the lorebooks (whether overt fantasy racism or subtler stuff), it makes for a very narrow, and colonial, band of stories available to tell without excessive hacking, and hacking is excessively difficult because of how number-crunchy it is, in that, if you change anything or add anything, it’s very possible you’ll just break the game statistically.
The crunchiness also is something which can work and I’ve seen work well in other systems, but the way dnd does it actively discourages creativity on the character players’ parts. Other systems codify types of actions, and types of success and failure, which deliberately have wiggle room so that the mechanics can be massaged to take whatever weird and wonderful thing u wanna try to do, and they do it in a way that makes failure an interesting outcome that drives plot forward; dnd wants every single possible action to be codified in one specific way, or else not be accounted for at all (see previous, you also then can’t hack it in without several hours of work), and failure, as I’ve said, is a matter of dm discretion and whether they personally want to hinder you, which is something that’s honestly terrifyingly prevalent.
Also, in terms of longer campaigns, there’s no real structure to the game other than just an assumption that the numbers will get bigger, which is an incredibly false and boring way of attempting to raise stakes. Like, if your health has increased, AND your damage has increased, AND your ac has increased, AND all of those things have also increased for your enemies, what has actually changed in terms of how it feels to play the game? This is why so many people end up multi-classing, because it’s the only codified way to force some kind of lateral progression out of the game. Even then, nothing changes as you progress, except you’re maybe more terrified about killing off your own character in a way that you still have no control over, because again the character players have no control and are expected to just take it when they’re told something they don’t like. The attitude of ‘well, the dice said so’ is not a bad one, as long as you’re careful, but it’s acting as if the matter is out of the players’ hands, which is patently false; it’s a narrative that YOU are constructing, and you can and absolutely should make it a narrative that is safe for the people making and consuming it.
This comes back to the idea of ‘spontaneous and collaborative’. Dnd is viscerally opposed to any kind of actual working together, either between dm and character players, or between members of the party, but it’s also forcing the worst kind of spontaneity, in that ‘the dice said so’, while still codifying in advance everything you’re ‘allowed’ to try to do, and encouraging the dm to prep so hard that there’s nothing going on in the world that they don’t know about, which again puts all the onus on them for story- and world-building. You literally cannot do real collaboration if you have this attitude, and vice versa, you cannot have real spontaneity if you insist on setting yourself against the others.
Tl;dr: dnd is a game which goes out of its way to be hostile to the people playing it, and even when those people actively resist the competitive mechanics and culture, the story they end up making is just plain boring, and has a ton of unaddressed, unanalysed colonial baggage.

I saw that you like CATS the musical. What are your thoughts on the movie?
AAAAH AHHAHA oh man oh boy y'all should BUCKLE IN cuz it's a ride
my simple thoughts? it's entertaining if only because it butchered the stage show so badly in an attempt to idk modernize it? Well, modernization is one part of it I think. The other part I'll go into below lol. I don't necessarily hate some of the more modern renditions of the songs (mostly the ensemble sets like Jellicle Song for Jellicle Cats) but then others are just... so poorly done it's insulting.
I've said this at the end of this whole rant too but I'm gonna put it up here in case people don't (justifiably) wanna see me go on and on about it:
The movie wasn't made for fans of the musical. It was made to make money and I believe they choose, at least partially, to do that through making it the weirdest and worst possible adaptation they could so that people would want to go see the train wreck. Which, really, worked! It was all people could talk about for a good while so like... Goal achieved, I guess.
A MUCH MORE COMPREHENSIVE ANALYSIS UNDER THE CUT cuz i don't wanna. flood your dash with... this
ALRIGHT SO. Most of my friends know I'm actually a huge fan of new adaptations of things. I love remakes (provided the people making it are coming at it with some form of heart and not just... cash grabbing which is more often the case) I love seeing other peoples interpretations of characters, or changing settings. It's one of the reasons I like American comics so much, getting to see different writers takes is fascinating.
I think musical movies can be wonderful ways to introduce people to a stage show that might have been unavailable to them otherwise! Chicago, for example, is one of the BEST musical to movie adaptations in my opinion. It kept the heart of the show, it's funny and the song numbers are done really well.
There are of course other famous examples, such as Grease or Bye Bye Birdie. Hairspray was also a wonderful take. These are simply off the top of my head, there are of course more.
CATS in particular has a history. If you go through my CATS tag you may see a few posts from @catsnonreplica which posts photos from non broadway productions of CATS! It's a fascinating read and I love, love, love looking at the other interpretations of the characters! CATS is a musical full of fun and wonderful characters if you take the time to see past the ridiculousness haha and the Korean and Japanese runs of CATS especially have some of my favourites.
How does this relate to the movie, I hear you say well. As you might has noticed the movie's interpretations of the characters is........ lackluster at best and downright uncanny valley at best.
CATS is, at its core, a ridiculous thing. I will fully admit that! But it's fun, it's entertaining and if you pay a little attention you can actually get the plot. (Honestly I don't understand when people complain it has no plot but that's a whole other rant for another day)
The movie was... obsessed with this idea of like... semi realism? Like obviously, as a fan, I think they should have leaned into the over the top character designs but instead we got...w ell:
Bombalurina:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Demeter left and Bomba right. Demeter was actually cut! From the movie which is. upsetting lmao.
Macavity is one of the worst offenders for me:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Macavity was... I wish I could know what the hell they were thinking there cuz it's even in his song? Ginger cat??? THAT IS NOT... A GINGER CAT...... but I digress. I would show more examples but I think you get the point.
So. We've butchered the characters appearances. Okay that's fine but what about their personalities?
ALSO BUTCHERED.
There's... there's a lot to unpack here. Just for context: the Jellicle Ball happens once a year and the Jellicle leader chooses a single cat to be reborn into a new life. In the stage play all the cats who are nominated for this honour are on the older side (Jenny-Any-Dots, Bustopher Jones, Skimbleshanks, Gus The Theatre Cat, and eventually Grizzabella) AND are always nominated by another cat. Not themself, unlike the movie where they all seem to nominate themselves.
Jenny-Any-Dots went from a doting grandmother figure who's celebrated for her selfless volunteering and tireless work into a conceited, vain younger cat who is obsessed with fame.
It's an incredibly strange dichotomy. I don't doubt some of it isn't the result of the uh people playing the characters honestly. I do think some of them did the best they could! I don't really blame Jason Derulo, for example, for Tugger. And honestly, Tugger was probably closest to his stage version (while being a trouble maker, he's shown to show Deuteronomy an immense amount of respect)
Speaking of Tugger! This will bring us to one of the biggest grievances with the movie and that is how they handled Mr Mistoffelees.
So... Ugh. So. We have Victoria as the pov character, which imo is like whatever in the grand scheme of things, and then we have Misto who they have decided will be get live interest cuz... Of course. Misto is shown throughout the musical to be awkward, unsure of himself and well. Really, kinda incompetent. Which is Wild cuz in the stage show he might be aloof but he's fairly confident in his powers.
So, Old Deuts gets kidnapped. In the stage show Tugger is the one to bring Misto forward! It's really quite sweet, imo, and I'm showing myself as a Tuggoffelees shipper here, but again Tugger is previously shown to be pretty conceited but then here he is boosting and hyping up Misto to bring Deuteronomy back. My friends and I have lovingly dubbed this the boyfriend hype song.
SOMEHOW. The movie manages to make this, easily, the MOST BORING number in the whole thing. Which, again, WILD. Misto awkwardly stumbles through his whole song, which again is... Boasting of his supreme magical powers which movie Misto clearly. Does not have or believe to have. The song, to me, feels super awkward and unnecessarily drawn out in the movie which sucks cuz it's one of my favourites in the show.
The declawing (heh) of Mr Mistoffelees actually reminds me strongly of how they changed Gaston in the live action Beauty and the Beast movie. He's gone from a beloved figure in the animated movie to someone so disliked in the town that Le Fou has to pay people off to say nice things about him. It's just. Wild character choices were made!!
Skimbleshanks the Railway Cat is probably my favourite in movie non ensemble number. It feels the most... Genuine? Compared to the other nomination songs.
Other problems include but are not limited to:
The inconsistent size scale of the CATS which throws me off constantly.
The weirdly overt sexual overtones added to MANY of the songs (Jenny and Bustopher being the worst)
This is just a personal gripe and opinion but I don't like that they used the UK version of Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer. The American version is both better known and tbh way more fun. Teazer's giggle? Adds ten years to my life every time.
Victoria's added solo song, Beautiful Ghosts, while I like the song as a song it doesn't fit the style of message of the musical. In the movie she's singing directly to Grizzabella who's being an outcast for years that she should be grateful she even has memories of being part of the tribe?? What?? But I know they had to add an original song to be able to be nominated for awards in like the Grammys n shit (which is why all musical movies will have an original song, fun fact!!) kinda funny they went to the effort though considering........... I don't think anyone could have genuinely believed CATS 2019 was gonna win anything but golden rhaspberries.
Movie Mr Mistoffelees has made repeated appearances as my sleep paralysis demon
The various cut characters, shout outs to Jemima, Demeter and Jellylorum especially
Bombalurina being a henchman to Macavity rubs me the wrong way
God I've written... So much. You probably get it by now haha. Like I said at the beginning, I try to go into any adaptation with an open mind but... Let's be honest, this movie wasn't marketed to people who are fans of the musical.
It was marketed, and made, to make money. And they choose to do that through, I think, intentionally making the worst possible version ever. Bad press is still press and the more outrageous people said the movie was the more people wanted to go see exactly what kind of train wreck it was.
Which is a disservice to the stage show, honestly, and all the people who've worked on it over the years.
But what can we do, right?
And besides all that, I do... Still own the movie version and I do still rewatch it on occasion. It is entertaining even if it's in a train wreck kind of way. I usually end up watching the 1998 version, then 2019 and then various tour runs that are on YouTube. (I highly recommend the 2016 tour, it's very good)
So in conclusion. It's fun (?) to watch. I enjoy picking things apart and doing analysis (if you couldn't tell!) so like... I don't hate it?
It did what it set out to do, I guess, and I can't fault it for that but. It's not a fair metre with which to judge the stage show imo. But I know it's not everyone's cup of tea, haha.
Jazz hands. I'm more than happy to elaborate or just chat about CATS if anyone wants! I grew up listening to the Broadway CD since I was a toddler so it's been! A very long standing obsession haha. Probably the only other thing on par with CATS is my obsession with Jurassic Park which I've also been a fan of since I was 3 (but that's a whole story in and of itself)

Could Pink Steven be the one to corrupt?
Hi folks! As a preface to this, I wanna make it clear that I’m just throwing out interesting ideas here. It’s fun to consider multiple options. At this point I don’t know if it’s even within the realm of possibility for us to see Pink Steven again, but I’ve seen a little bit of musing about this over the past few days and I wanted to break the concept down... and suggest a possibility for how and why it could happen.
So! Let’s get to it.
The most likely way I see for Steven’s organic and Gem halves to fall apart is if Steven comes to a moment in SUF where- for whatever reason- he decides he hates himself.
Fusions are an embodiment of the bond between people, of course. Garnet has been very clear to state that it’s the strength of Ruby and Sapphire’s love for each other that keeps her together for so long.
SUF has already gone on record to show us a blatant example of how fusing because of mutual hatred (for another person) isn’t exactly... sustainable. Aquamarine and Eyeball had a lot of trouble forming Bluebird Azurite again due to this.
Tumblr media
Steven: “You guys fused just because you hate me, didn't you? […] If that's the only reason, then it's no wonder you can't keep it together.”
From Garnet’s comments on fusion, it’s not a leap to believe the same would be absolutely true if a fusion began to hate themself, instead.
Hate is a strong emotion, though. And yeah- Steven’s had obvious self-worth issues that have been visible since way back in og. series episode 2, (”You can’t just be useless! I know you can help!”), but to flat out hate himself? Steven? A special sort of permafusion who is literally built on a foundation of self-love? It would take an especially harrowing event to lead him that low, I think.
Tumblr media
(Note the pink and white eyes, (symbolic of Gem and organic halves?), and the tear over his chest where his heart is, stuffing pouring out. This Steven doll is beginning to split apart.)
And looking at what SUF has given us so far when it comes to Steven’s new powers, I think the likely candidate for what could lead him down that path is... an incident where he almost accidentally hurts someone he loves.
I doubt it would be on purpose, mind you. He’s a genuinely kindhearted boy. He intends the best. But with his powers growing wildly out of control right alongside his emotions, I could easily see him perhaps... having a repeat of what happened at the Reef.
Tumblr media
This episode introduced the plot thread of Pink Diamond accidentally hurting Volleyball because she was too close to the blast radius when Pink got really upset and yelled. So what if history almost repeats?
What if one of the Gems or something gets caught too close? (I seriously, seriously don’t think it would EVER be Connie, y’all. CN ain’t gonna maim a human, but fantasy violence to Gems is fair game.)
Tumblr media
With all the stress and pressures he’s currently carrying- his lack of purpose, the fear he’s being left behind in the past, his tumultuous emotions about his mom, the troubling matter of this new power he can’t control, him feeling like he can’t even talk to the Gems about his problems- this could be the last straw. The final piece that pushes him across the line.
So, suppose Steven does split into two. Gem and organic halves. What might happen from there?
Garnet: “Remember – your body isn’t just a projection of light but also a reflection of your inner soul.”
Perhaps Pink Steven on his own is unable to handle the brunt of Steven’s emotions, and it’s because he’s without his organic half’s emotional restraint that he corrupts. Steven hates himself. He fears he’s going to hurt others, become just like his mom, become a monster. He feels like a monster.
And so his Gem half becomes one. Reflects what fears lie within his inner soul. It’d be exactly like how Cactus Steven mirrored Steven’s emotional state in Prickly Pair.
I also think Pink Steven being the one to corrupt instead of hybrid Steven would fix a lot of the chinks people have pointed out in this theory. Namely:
It would allow Steven’s POV to be retained throughout the incident. Or, well- half of Steven’s POV. A part of him would still be there as a central character, and able to communicate with the Crystal Gems in the heart of the moment. If hybrid Steven corrupted, that communication would be hard- and they might have to switch to a different POV, which could pose the risk of feeling out of place compared to the rest of the series.
Since Pink Steven is an entirely hard light entity, it would sidestep all of the disturbing body horror implications of a half-organic individual corrupting. This is easily something Crewniverse could depict within the restraints of the show’s rating. We’ve seen full Gems corrupt before.
Of course, Crewniverse has gone on record to state that Steven’s halves cannot survive for long without each other. But I don’t think that statement rules this out as a possibility. If anything, it would provide more peril... a ticking clock, so to speak.
If Steven can’t begin to sort out the emotional issues that are causing him so much pain, he will continue to suffer. That’s just a given no matter the scenario. His halves have to forgive each other... come to a place of acceptance with each other... understand that it’s okay to be open and ask for help... otherwise, he won’t be able to piece himself back together. What a better way to finally convince Steven to seek help in dealing with his own problems then the fact that if he doesn’t, he may lose himself in the process? He literally can’t deny it then. These halves aren’t supposed to exist on their own, apart, at all. But if they’re ever going to be able to fuse back into one again, they have to work some things out.
Tumblr media
Steven: “I’m sorry I mistreated you. I know you didn't mean to hurt anyone- [...] I should've given you more of the love and kindness that you deserve. So...who wants a hug?”
The other reason I quite like this concept is that it would inevitably lead to an emotional end where- after the corruption issue is sorted with Pink Steven, and organic Steven has opened up about what he’s going through to his close loved ones- the two halves will reconcile, forgive themselves, and begin to rekindle that self-love. Fuse together again. Begin the long journey of picking up all those broken pieces, this time with his family and friends’ knowing support. That could be super cathartic.
So that’s all I really have to say on that. Once more- this is just a theory. I’m playing with ideas for fun, that’s it. But this idea is definitely one I like a lot, and if corrupted Steven theory is completely off in left field and it’s completely wrong, I’d love to explore it more in fic. Thanks for reading, all! Have a nice day! :D

been thinking ‘bout your touch
ao3!
Summary: 3 times Logan initiates contact, and one time his family returns the favor Warnings: character overworking themself, a brief mention of the American Civil War/slavery, Inside Out spoilers (specifically Bing Bong’s storyline) Wordcount: 3501
Logan walked into the commons and promptly forgot what he’d gone in there for, instead walking over to the couch and hugging a softly crying Patton.
“Oh!” Patton said, startled. “Hey, Logan!”
“Hello, Patton.”
Patton hugged Logan back, sinking into the contact for a moment before starting to pull away. Logan held on.
“Everything okay, kiddo?”
“I am fine, thank you. Studies show it takes 20 seconds of physical contact for endorphins to be released, so I am attempting to provide that.”
“Ooookay?”
“You were crying when I entered the room.” Was Patton not aware of that?
“Oh!” Patton said. He pushed on Logan’s shoulders gently, moving far enough back to initiate eye contact. “Logan, I’m watching Inside Out.”
Logan let go of the hug and turned to look at the TV. It was indeed playing Inside Out, the little joy and sadness characters on screen. He turned back to Patton, ready to ask why this mattered, but Patton beat him to it.
“Bing Bong just died. It was sad, but I’m fine.”
Oh.
“I see.” Logan cleared his throat and stood up, hoping he didn’t look as foolish as he felt. “I’m glad you’re alright—”
“Wanna stay and finish the movie with me?” Patton looked up at him hopefully. He’d pulled out his so-called “puppy dog eyes.” This was unfair.
“Wellllll,” Logan hedged, still embarrassed. “I should probably go back to work…”
“Please?” This was definitely unfair.
Logan sighed and sat down beside Patton, trying to squash his smile.
“Yay!” Patton cheered, scooching over to wrap Logan in a hug and settle into his side.
Logan didn’t think he was successful in hiding his grin.
Virgil, Logan had noticed, tended to hole up in his room often. He came out for meals and movie nights, and sometimes would sit in the living room, and even on occasions socialize, but more often than not he was in his room.
As none of them were permitted inside Virgil’s room for very long—anxiety overloading their functions and all that—spending so much time in there could not be conducive to getting very much physical contact, even factoring in Patton’s apparent mission to hug Virgil at least once in every encounter between the two of them. As sides, they did not technically need physical contact, just as they did not technically need food or sleep, but it was better for Thomas and for themselves if they got all three in healthy amounts.
Virgil, Logan was quite sure, was not getting a healthy amount of touch.
He aimed to remedy this.
So the next time Logan found Virgil sitting in the living room, he grabbed a book and joined him. Luckily, Virgil was sprawled out on the couch, instead of in one of the armchairs or in some other spot where seeking physical contact with him might’ve been difficult.
“May I join you?” Logan asked, nodding to the spot on the couch where Virgil’s head lay.
“Oh, uh, sure,” Virgil said awkwardly, sitting upright.
“Thank you.” He settled into his spot and found his place in the book. Starting to read, he informed Virgil, “If you wish to lay back down, I would not be opposed.”
“Uh, alright.” Virgil carefully settled his head in Logan’s lap.
About a chapter later, Logan realized Virgil had relaxed into his position on top of Logan, which gave him the courage to ask, “Would it be alright if I settled a hand in your hair?”
Virgil tilted his head back to look at Logan. “Why?”
“My arm’s growing a bit tired from being held up. If it makes you uncomfortable, though, I can certainly figure something else out.”
“Nah,” Virgil told him, tilting his head forward again. “Go ahead.”
Logan gingerly places his hand on Virgil’s head, letting his fingers tangle slightly in his hair before turning back to his book.
He’d reached the climax and so had gotten caught up in the story for the next several chapters, enough to completely forget his surroundings. So it was a while before he realized that he’d started mindlessly playing with Virgil’s hair. Virgil had completely relaxed in his lap and seemed to be on the verge of falling asleep.
Logan smiled at the sight, and at the success of his plan, and turned back to his book, making sure he didn’t disturb Virgil as he did so.
“Logan!” Roman hollered, stretching out the name as he hurtled down the stairs.
“Yes?”
“I’m bored,” Roman groaned, flopping in the chair beside Logan’s theatrically. “Do you have any quests to complete?” On principle, Logan didn’t particularly care to attempt to entertain any bored sides that came his way for amusement. He was a busy side, after all, and didn’t have time to waste over someone else’s lack of stimulation.
He still didn’t particularly care about Roman’s boredom this time around, but as his work was completed, he figured it couldn’t hurt to at least talk with Roman.
“Alas,” Roman sighed, bringing a hand up to his forehead and closing his eyes, “I completed all my recent ones yesterday, and I have no inspiration to make more. So I am completely and utterly out of things to do…” He trailed off, a hint of something in his tone that suggested he wanted Logan to ask something of him.
After a moment Roman cracked an eye open to squint at him, confirming the theory. Logan, lacking any idea what he wanted, raised an eyebrow.
“...Unless, of course, someone were interested in my daring exploits,” Roman continued pointedly, closing his eyes again and somehow posing more.
“It’s ‘was,’ not ‘were.’” Boredom was no excuse for bad grammar.
“So that I might then enthrall them with the tales of my valor.” Roman swatted at Logan with his free hand.
Logan sighed, rolling his eyes. “Oh, Roman, would you please tell me all about your amazing quests.”
“I would be delighted to!” Roman grinned, springing up from his chair. “It all began two days ago, when I was attempting to blend in among the populace—”
“Do you need to be facing me to tell me this?” Logan interrupted. Maybe it was rude, but it wasn’t like he hadn’t been cut off himself many times before, and anyway, better to cut in at the start then wait until some point in the middle.
“I suppose not.” Roman frowned at him. “Why’d you ask?”
“I’d like to braid your hair while I listen, if you don’t mind.” Otherwise he’d just be sitting there, hands idle.
“Oh!” Roman brightened. “Go ahead!”
Logan nodded and moved to sit cross legged on the couch, gesturing to the space in front of him. Roman snatched up a couple pillows and arranged them in a kind of throne in front of Logan, plopping on top of them and wiggling around in an extravagant attempt at getting comfortable.
“Okay,” he declared after a minute. “So. My cover was blown in a matter of minutes when a young boy approached me and insisted he needed my help…”
As he listened, Logan wove little cornrows into Roman’s hair and conjured tiny hair bands to tie them off as he finished them.
“...And the townsfolk were grateful enough to throw a party in my honor! Though unfortunately I got summoned soon after it started, but whatever! Spending time with you guys is better than with imagined people I don’t really know,” Roman finished, doing a little flourish with his hands. He turned to face Logan. “So, what’d you think?”
“I think you need to stay still so I can finish this braid,” Logan told him, clutching onto the strands of hair he’d been in the middle of weaving together.
Roman huffed, but faced forward again. “So?”
“You did a great job and told it eloquently. I particularly liked the part with the bull, and the imagery with the puzzle.”
“Thank you!” Logan could hear the smile in his voice.
“You’re welcome.” He conjured a final hair band and twisted it around the ends of the braid. “There.”
Roman instantly jumped up, twisting around to grin at Logan as he sang, “Your turn!”
“My turn?”
“I wanna do your hair now,” Roman said, pouting a little.
“You being the one to both talk and braid hair doesn’t give me anything to do, though,” Logan pointed out. “That was kind of the point of me braiding your hair.”
“Then you talk!”
“I haven’t gone on any quests, though.”
“Then tell me about a book you’ve read!” Roman supplied easily. “Any clever twists and turns you didn’t see coming? Plot holes that could’ve been easily fixed? Surely there must be something you want to talk about.”
“Well… “ Logan slowly slid onto Roman’s pillow throne.
Roman bounced onto the spot where Logan had been. “It’s settled, you’ve gotta tell me now!”
Logan huffed, rolling his eyes. “Very well.”
“Explain that plot, my good nerd!” Roman tilted Logan’s head back slightly to start a braid at the crown of his hair.
“The book begins with the characters…”
Logan knew it was his own fault.
He knew he was overworking himself, barely remembering to eat and sleep to help keep Thomas healthy and hardly coming out of his room. It’d been this way for a few weeks, since he’d picked up this project. And he knew he didn’t have to be working this hard, didn’t technically have to do this project at all, but here he was, carrying on by telling himself he’d just finish this one part— (But there was always another part following it, and then he had to finish that part too, and so on and so on.
He’d… he’d finish it eventually.)
So Logan knew it was his own fault he wanted a hug so badly, but that didn’t stop the yearning.
Logan leaned back in his chair, looking over the work he’d finished and mentally calculating how long it would take to complete the rest. If he kept working at the pace he’d been working at… about two days?
He could do two days. Anyone could do two days; a child could do two days. Two days, and then he’d be done, and he’d let himself go ask for a hug.
Two days and then a hug, he repeated as he leaned forward again, picking up his pencil and resuming his work.
It didn’t end up being two days.
First, he’d nearly fallen asleep at his laptop, and in his startle awake he’d accidentally deleted a big chunk of his work that’d needed to be recalculated and typed out. Then he’d made a mistake in his written work, and so had to comb through everything he’d already done to find it and then replace all the work after it.
So it was a week later that he realized his ‘two days’ had come and gone three times over, and he still hadn’t finished (or gotten a hug). If anything, he might’ve been set back in his work from when he’d promised himself that.
He sighed and looked at the clock. 7:23, and him using military time meant he’d stayed up all night again.
Logan was debating whether or not he should go get some food, maybe try to sleep, when someone gently pulled his chair away from the desk, hands on his shoulders. He startled.
“Logan,” Patton whispered, breath hot against his ear. “You need a break.”
Logan sighed and nodded. “I do.”
“Then let’s get you one.” Patton let go of his shoulders, and Logan barely had time to mourn the loss before Patton was taking his hands and heaving him up from the chair. The leather made a ripping sound as his legs unstuck.
“Definitely need a break,” Patton said decidedly. “Have you had breakfast yet?” Logan shook his head. “Then we’ll start there!”
Logan smiled fondly as Patton tugged him downstairs and into the kitchen. Virgil was on the counter, looking up from his phone as they arrived.
“Hey, Logan,” he smirked, though his eyes looked a little too relieved for his expression to seem genuine. “Long time, no see.”
“I’ve been… absorbed in this project.” The way he said it made it almost sound like an apology, though that was ridiculous. Nothing about that sentence was an apology. (It was, kind of, an apology.)
Virgil nodded and patted the counter space beside him. “Sit with me while Pat makes breakfast?”
“Sounds like a great idea!” Patton declared, squeezing Logan’s hands and clapping him on the back before turning and pulling out pans and ingredients.
Logan pushed himself onto the counter, looking over as Virgil tilted his screen towards him. He was watching what seemed like a conspiracy video, captions on and sound turned off. It appeared to be claiming the Civil War was some personal feud between a couple influential people, instead of about slavery. (It was, of course, a white person talking animatedly on screen.) Logan rolled his eyes at the idea, but watched anyway, occasionally murmuring contradictions to what the video was saying.
After it ended, Virgil pulled up another conspiracy video, looking over at Logan. He nodded, and Virgil pressed play, leaning against Logan’s side as the video started.
Logan very carefully did not stiffen, not wanting to scare Virgil away, and slowly relaxed into the touch. Virgil was warm against his side, and he soaked up that heat gratefully.
They watched about an hour’s worth of conspiracy videos, with Patton puttering around the kitchen as pleasant background noise. Logan could’ve easily watched for another hour, but biscuits, bacon, and eggs didn’t keep very well, and Logan was hungry. It was only with minor reluctance that he took his seat at the table.
“Roman! Breakfast!”
Logan heard more than saw Roman clattering downstairs, chair facing away from the steps. There was the thundering of feet, a thump that sounded more like he’d jumped the last few stairs then fallen, and—a gasp?
“You’ve escaped!” Roman cried, and Logan twisted in his chair to see what he was talking about just in time to be engulfed in a hug.
After a moment, Roman released him, rubbing the back of his neck sheepishly. “Sorry, I should’ve—”
“Roman.” Logan hoped the waver in his voice wasn’t too prominent to the others. “Come here and hug me properly.”
Roman lit up, bending down in a sort of squat as Logan twisted to sit sideways in his chair, so that they met in the middle and melted into a hug. (Logan clung perhaps a bit more tightly than he would’ve admitted. He’d missed this.)
After a minute Logan made himself pull back. “My apologies, that couldn’t have been a comfortable position to hold for so long.”
“I don’t care,” Roman assured him. “Don’t worry, I would’ve pulled away sooner if it was bothering me—Zeus, it’s so good to see you; do you even realize how long you’ve been locked up in your room?”
“A month and two days,” Logan said quietly. “Technically, just three days, as that was the last time I’d come out of my room to get food, but—thirty-two days.”
“What were you even doing in there?”
“I’ve been working to try and come up with a better way to manage Thomas’s finances, as well as trying to figure out his taxes. I know it’s unnecessary, especially to the degree I’ve been doing so, but…” But what? He couldn’t stop working? Preposterous; he could’ve, he’d just chosen not to, and then lost track of time and kept going until it had devolved into somehow being locked in his room for a month.
“Well, then!” Roman set a hand on Logan’s shoulder and it ached, almost, with how good it felt. (Logan might’ve become touch starved. He’d acknowledged that a while ago and kept working.) “I’m glad you’ve come to your senses and put a pause on it!”
“Actually,” Patton broke in. “I pulled him away for a break. He probably would’ve kept working if I hadn’t come in.” His tone was breezy, but there was a judgmental edge to it that indicated Patton had stronger opinions than he was voicing.
“I agreed with you that I needed a break,” Logan pointed out defensively. “I was actually thinking of getting some food when you came in.”
Patton hummed in an ‘if you say so’ sort of way.
“And, lemme guess—after breakfast you’ll go back to work?” Roman asked, shifting his weight.
“I—” Logan hadn't actually decided on whether he would or not.
“The answer here is ‘no,’ L,” Virgil said gently. “Don’t bother fighting it.”
Logan sighed. “Then I suppose I’m not going back to work after breakfast.”
“Good,” Roman declared, plopping down in his seat like that emphasized his point.
They ate, and there was a pause afterwards where Roman, Patton, and Virgil were all taking care of things and Logan was alone in the kitchen. He debated going back to his room—he’d said he wouldn’t, but he didn’t really know what else to do and no one was here to stop him—but Patton popped up and pushed him into the commons with a “Help set up!”
“Set up?”
“For the movie,” Virgil said, appearing beside Logan and hooking arms with him, pulling him along. “Roman’s getting blankets, so I need you to help me find The Aristocats before he can rig the vote.”
“Rig the vote? Roman?” Logan deadpanned. “Blatant slander and defamation; he would never.” Virgil snorted, and Logan wasn’t sure if the warmth he felt was from their proximity or… probably just the proximity.
“I know, right,” Virgil joked. “But this way, it’s two against one and so he can’t complain.” He dropped to his knees in front of the movie cases. Their arms were linked loosely enough that Logan could’ve chosen to slip out of his grip and remain standing, but he let himself kneel beside Virgil.
They flipped through the cases (and regrettably had to unlink arms to do so, but they were sitting close enough their thighs were pressed against each other, and Logan found he didn’t miss the contact too much), and pulled out The Aristocats right as Roman thundered down the stairs, laden with blankets and pillows.
“Careful!”
“Not to worry, Pat, I’m fine!” Roman declared, hopping past the last two steps and dumping his bounty on the couch. He squinted at Logan and Virgil. “Are you two conspiring? Going behind my back to rig the vote in your favor?”
“Because you’ve never done that,” Virgil snarked at the same time Logan said, “It’s Disney.”
“Disney?” Roman perked up.
“Aristocats,” Virgil told him. “Everybody wants to be a cat, y’know, and last I checked you’re part of everybody.”
“Oooh! We haven’t watched that in a while!”
“Nope.” Virgil popped the p sound. “And that’s why if you try to make us watch another movie first, I’ll steal all your Disney posters and make a collage out of them.”
Roman Gasped Offendedly™. “I didn’t even say anything! I want to watch Aristocats!”
“Just letting you know,” Virgil said.
Roman stuck his tongue out at him and began setting up a blanket fort. Logan went over to help him while Virgil popped the DVD into the player and left to help Patton manage snacks. They came back with a couple bowls of popcorn, several smaller bowls of candy, and a round of mugs. Everyone crawled in, got comfy, and made sure the snacks were within reach.
“Ready?” Virgil asked, prompting various noises of agreement, and then pressed play.
Roman and Logan had arranged the fort so that the couch was technically available for sitting on, but the blankets were low enough they’d be pushed up by one’s head. Virgil solved this problem by draping himself across the couch, head almost beside Logan’s and arm on top of Logan’s head, where Logan could easily hold up the popcorn bowl for him whenever he needed a new handful. (It was maybe slightly inconvenient, but Logan was maybe slightly touch starved, and this method meant Virgil’s arm stayed perched on Logan’s head.)
A few minutes into the movie, Roman shifted around and kicked his legs up to use Logan’s lap as a footstool. Logan retaliated by taking the Skittles from him and placing them on his other side, near Patton. Roman scrunched his face up at him and squirmed around so that his head was in Logan’s lap, and throughout the movie they continued until Roman was almost entirely settled on top of Logan, where he stayed.
About when Duchess met (Abraham DeLacey Giuseppe Casey) Thomas O’Malley, Patton scooched over a little and laid his head on Logan’s shoulder. It was careful, at first, the kind where one could tell the other wasn’t letting the full weight rest on them. But when Logan didn’t react except to put his head on top of Patton’s, he relaxed into it.
By the time the movie had ended, they were a pile of warmth and Logan was at the center of it.
Logan loved his famILY.

So it’s 5am and I haven’t slept yet, not sure if I’m gonna sleep at this point, so I wanted to talk about this post by ruby-whistler because I have Thoughts but didn’t want to derail the original post. (Also keep in mind it’s 5am so this is gonna be very stream-of-consciousness).
Disclaimer- my intention with this post is not to start a fight with ruby-whistler or any other Dream apologist for that matter. Just because we fundamentally disagree doesn’t mean we have to hate each other. I am simply thinking my thoughts and sharing them on the internet
Edit: this has been sitting in my drafts for like week as I debated on whether I should tag ruby-whistler, given my view of c!Dream versus hers. clearly, I’ve decided against it, as I really don’t want to start conflict, but I do want to get my thoughts out there.
[please assume that I am referring to the dsmp characters, not the content creators, unless specified otherwise]
So first off I would like to point out that ruby-whistler and I have very different views on Dream as a character. For the sake of clarity, Ruby is a Dream apologist, and I am not. Frankly it would take quite a lot for me to genuinely believe that Dream is deserving of sympathy, let alone a full redemption arc. That being said, Ruby brought up some interesting points that I’d like to explore.
For those who don’t want to read the original post, Ruby suggested that if Dream were redeemed, it wouldn’t because he suddenly realized he did a bad and was sorry(he knew he was doing a bad the whole time, just didn’t care), but instead had someone systematically disprove his learned toxic behaviors and mindset(ends justify means, attachment=weakness, etc.). Basically prove him wrong. And I actually like this interpretation!
To elaborate on my own feelings toward Dream, I think it would be very difficult, if not impossible, to fully redeem him from a writing standpoint. If not because he doesn’t want to be better, then because no on the server will be willing to help him. Characters like Dream rarely get redeemed because they’ve dug a hole for themselves. They either reached the point of no return, or the people they’ve hurt are(oftentimes justifiably) unwilling to forgive them, so with no support system they fall back into old habits. Sad? Yes. Understandable? Also yes. There’s a reason Dream’s character type almost always suffers from redemption equals death.
(for those who don’t know, redemption equals death is the trope in which a villain is so bad that the only way to somewhat redeem them is to have them die by heroically sacrificing themself. basically there was no way to justify their actions and not enough time for them to heal, but at least you know they’re trying. Examples: Star Wars’ Darth Vader, She-Ra’s Shadow Weaver.
So from a meta perspective, a Dream redemption is highly, highly unlikely. That being said, I do think it’s a bit of an icky mindset to have that certain people simply can’t change for the better. What Ruby mentioned is a smart way to get around this. I won’t be the first to point out that Pandora’s Vault is not exactly the environment for rehabilitation, especially not now. I think Dream is a terrible person, yes, but do I think he deserves to be tortured on a daily basis? No. Do I think he deserves to be kept a box with nothing to do but think and write? Maybe a little as karmic punishment for intentionally designing the place that way, but not forever(probably like a month At Most) All that’s going to do is make a bad person even worse. The way things are going, the most likely scenario is him breaking out and going on a fucking rampage. So yes, I think Ruby has a point with this whole positive reinforcement idea. Get the few people on the server who are still sympathetic to him to just sit and chat. Not to talk at him and tell him what they think, but just chat. Ease him into the idea that maybe he was wrong. It could possibly work.
At this point I’m going to stop talking about Dream and start on the implications for Tommy because oh boy. Obviously a Dream redemption would affect more people than just Tommy, but I’m mainly invested in his story and I’m also kinda running out of steam here so you get what you get
Now here’s where it gets tricky. In the event that Dream manages a full redemption arc, in which he does his best to right his wrongs and be an actual good person. Not Everyone Is Required To Forgive Him. Tommy, I’m talking about Tommy, do not make Tommy forgive him. (As said above it’d be understandable for a lot of people not to forgive him, but I am talking about Tommy right now)
Not only would this type of thing have terrible real-life implications, it just wouldn’t make sense for Tommy’s character. If Dream, even a fully reformed Dream, walked up to Tommy wanting to rebuild old bridges, even if he genuinely apologized, even if he did everything right, Tommy cannot and should not be expected to trust Dream. His first thought would be that Dream is trying the same shit he did in exile. The fact is, Tommy will have to live with his trauma for the rest of his life, and Dream should have to live with the knowledge that he caused that trauma, that he ruined someone’s life. Just because you’re a better person now doesn’t mean that the people you’ve hurt are magically also doing better.
(This is just a tangent about a potential direction the plot could take and is almost more of a Tommy analysis than anything so if you wanna dip now feel free)
Don’t get me wrong though, I also think it’d be interesting for Tommy to question himself later, if he happens to see enough hard evidence that Dream has changed. After all, this is a real-world dilemma, what do you do when your abusers heal? Abuse victims will often see their abuser bettering themselves and start to feel guilty for still being angry because “look, they’re not abusing me anymore, so I have no reason to still feel this way!” In this situation it could be constructive for the two to sit down and just talk things through. Still, I firmly believe that the best thing for both of them is to go their separate ways. Coexisting is enough in this case.

quick trigger warning/content warning for people with emetophobia, i will be mentioning the word v*mit once
hi luce!! (am i allowed to call you this)
OK so um, about my original character: dendro archon!reader reminds me of her is mostly because of her special ability, which i will get to at the end,,,
it started with a thought. what if there was another more accurate way to teleport (because god knows how far a sepcific spot can be sometimes), and then i remembered about ley lines, and how they supposedly have ‘roots’ that run to every corner of Teyvat.
imagine if someone can directly utilize those ley lines to travel instantaneously from one place to another. i haven't decided whether what species she should be; i wanted her to be an adeptus at first, one that didn't need a dendro vision—her ancestors just had a natural talent to teleport using ley lines; but it wouldn't match her occupation as a courier/mail deliverer, who delivers stuff all over Teyvat, not just limited to Liyue.
another reason is because i just really want to see more dendro visions kxjskdnsnnzjsn. the ley lines take the form of plants, no? it’d be a missed opportunity. (besides being an adeptus or human, forest nymph crossed my mind but that seems more out of place,,, idk)
there are limits to this, though—if the ley line runs under buildings or paved roads, she can't go there because the way her powers work is to grow a special flower that can directly connect to the ley lines. another identical one on the final destination will sprout: that's how she’s able to be precise with where she’ll end up. it’s important she does this, or she could get trapped within the ley line flow.
she also can't go to places with ley line disorders— she tried to once, and she ended up in a completely different place and vomitted from terrible nausea.
anyway i think that's all for now! i don't wanna bother you with too much rambling, however i need your honest opinion:
does she sound,,, believable? as in, she doesn't look too out of place in Teyvat’s lore??
- mushroom anon
(for those that don't know, emetophobia = phobia of vomiting)
OOOH after digesting this info and reading it over a bunch, i offer you my very mismatched thoughts because my brain is small LOL
(you're absolutely allowed to call me luce! everyone is hehe :>)
you know, i've always been sort of confused about the properties of ley lines (especially in spiral, all i did was hack n slash with kaeya and hope for the best PFBFBT) but your explanation actually helped me understand the game's lore better, so thanks!! :D
your oc is really interesting!! i can see her being a disciple of the dendro archon themself given that one must have potent power to be able to form life itself and travel through it. but the idea of an adeptus or forest nymph are really cool to explore as well!! the dendro adeptus could be someone who survived because they didn't accumulate any karmic debt that corrupted their soul (since dendro seems to be primarily used for healing and buffs i believe). and a forest nymph isn't far outside the realm of genshin's world given that we have a literal plot of land in a frickin teapot LOL (and we have mystical creatures like the bake-danuki in the game already!)
her occupation as a courier/mail carrier is so frickin smart!! she's famous for her speedy delivery and no one knows how she does it! :D i can also see her selling information and traveling using the ley lines on the down low to avoid a physical footpath for people to follow and ambush her :D
(you're not bothering me at all!! i love hearing about ocs, especially with how creative they tend to be!!)
though my opinion shouldn't matter (because she's a really awesome oc!!), i will still give it because im in love with this concept: she absolutely fits into teyvat's lore!! dendro is a power we have yet to know much about but your ideas are actually sound in genshin's logic and make sense!
thank you for sharing this with me, i really enjoyed reading about your oc!! (do you have any drawings/picrews for her? or perhaps a name? :D)

I know this is a controversial question so i would totally understand if you choose not want to answer, but im curious enough to ask anyway. Can you rank your fav remakes in order? Maybe add a comment about what you most appreciate about each remake (to soften the blow of any sensitive readers). Ofc if you couldnt connect with a remake you might wanna totally leave it out of the ranking...
Disclaimer this is gonna be long asf. So I like all the remakes so this is gonna be hard because of that. I don’t like one remake in its entirety I can find one season in each remake I wasn’t super stoked about and if you’re skamfr I can find 3 seasons hahah. So I am actually gonna do this by fav original 1-4 seasons and original seasons (OG excluded).
Season 1: Eva Skam Espana (Isa SkamNL is a super close 2nd)
I am gonna be frank my least fav season is Eva’s season in the original seasons. I don't dislike the plot its more like I just find the other plots of the other seasons way more interesting. However if I am gonna pick my fav adaptation its gonna be Eva from Espana. Mainly because some remakes take their jonas to far and they don’t know how to balance being inexperienced and immature with just being a plain dick (am looking at you wtfock and Austin). I hate when remakes take it to far and make the couple completely irredeemable. Also Jorge is just the best man. He tries so hard for Eva he tries to make things right and its just timing, immaturity on both parts. Also I love that above all Eva and Jorge are friends. Alongside with Lucas they are just like family and they can push aside their personal issues to be their for one another and I just think thats such a beautiful quality in Jorge and Eva.They both have good souls and I am happy they ended up together but I also feel like if they didn't they would be genuinely be happy for the other if they found someone else and fell in love and thats why I love them so much.
Season 2: Zoe Wtfock (but Nora Skam Espana is a close 2nd)
Here is what I love about Zoe’s season is that we see the pov of not just how Zoe was changing because she was opening herself to love but also how much Senne was changing as well and trying to address some issues he had been ignoring because he wanted to be a better man for Zoenne. For me Zoenne and Norandro are so amazing for this reason. We not only saw the girl processing how love was effecting her development but we got to experience Senne and Alejandro trying to become better men and really transitioning from boyhood to manhood via this self assessment period of themselves. I adore these two couples for this because I am so heavily invested in both the outcome of the girl and the guy. I guess with love stories there is that saying there is two sides to a story and then there is the truth and I feel like the noorhelm storyline has always been about hard truths. About young women challenging their perspectives on feminism, about young women acknowledging when they have been a victim of a crime/emotional abuse and not blaming themselves for it but knowing that they did nothing wrong and were undeserving of the act that took place. Also s2 plays on the concepts of manhood too. How approaching situations through the lens of rage and violence can develop into harmful and even predatory tendencies. Overall these two remakes stand out to me because they really speak to the lesson of how does one define themself in the whirlwind of love and what boundaries do you need to set so you don’t lose yourself in the process. Season 3: IT’S SO HARD PICKING JUST ONE!! (Am going to base this selection entirely off my fav Isak and their narrative arc versus the evak pairing because ultimately this season is about the Isak character not Isak & Even) Matteo Druck
Let me tell you no other Skam character has haunted me as much as Matteo. I think with Matteo his story was just so raw and unfiltered. Here was this boy he was so lonely, isolated, lost and really just didn’t think he was worthy of much. Matteo was approaching life expecting the bare minimum because he in many ways didn’t think he was deserving of much more. Matteo hid himself so deeply in what I refer to as the wall paper of life. Trying to blend in and stay invisible even tho this way of thinking was seriously effecting his mental health. I don't think he realized how far from shore he was before David slammed into his life and drag him out of the grip of the ocean’s current. Matteo was on the verge of drowning he just didn’t know it. And then came David and he just loved Matteo as is and I think a big reason for that is because no one had ever told either boy that they were perfect just as they were until they said it to one another. Both boys were going through life just accepting the bare minimum one because of societal barricades around gender and the other societal stigma concerning asking for help when suffering from mental health issues. In the end they found one another and said fuck it and fuck society as long as we have one another then we’re gonna get through this. However... having said that davenzi is not my fav evak pairing but Matteo is my fav standalone Isak. The prize for fav evak tho would go to Sobbe because I literally can’t picture two more in love people. Man the day Sobbe met I feel like inertia collapsed in on itself in their respective worlds. It really was the case that time stopped and that they were destined to find one another. They are so in love it just radiates off them. Also random note my fav Even is Joana. Hence why choosing an s3 is so hard because I like different components of s3 seasons.
Season 4: Sana Skam Italia
(this is a copy/paste my original why I love Italia s4 rant)
Say what you want about the casting(this is a fair argument) but I am really happy that SKAMIT gave us a love story centered around two muslim individuals and their differing approaches and interpretations of Islam. I think for me its that we are always trying to dilute Sana’s season with this western need to educate non-muslims and though I appreciate that I also want to see a love story that’s purely about the journey of young muslims and the issues they experience themselves and not via a western glazing. The thing that stood out for me in SKAMIT is how many different perspective of how Islam is practiced came to the forefront. Sana’s journey to understand and come to defend queerness. Muslim men (Sana’s brother) being offended because she assumed he was homophobic. Laui being in a healthy relationship as a muslim queer man. Malik openly talking about Islam and his separation from it but still a believer in a greater power(and not because he wants to drink and party). For me this was what the Sana season was suppose to be about putting the muslim experience front and center and unapologetically so.
Original Season: Nora Druck
I mean what a fantastic take on building new and improved squads with more diversity in race, sexual preferences and perspectives. I will say that I also do like the new squad from Skamfr. Its nice to see newgens that am truly excited about getting to know. Like I need to know everything about Ava pronto she is bae. I do have one random surprise about my next fav original season which for me would be Arthur for Skamfr. Honestly if we would have gutted the cheating plot we would have had a really interesting season about a young adult’s life being rocked by disability and trying to find themselves in this new landscape. Similar to Nora in Druck with MI and also the long term effects of experiencing violence in the household in Skamfr but yea so far Druck has been the only one to get a sound original season out and they should be commended for that.
