AU in which Nick Bradshaw never went the RIO road, instead he became a Navy doctor and his first ever patient was one fighter pilot Pete "Maverick" Mitchell.

Friendship at first sight. When Mav ended up at the hospital because of his shenanigans, he got lectured by Dr. Mother Goose every. single. time.

At some point, the good doctor got to listen to a loopy Mav's impassioned speeches about a blonde ice cube.

He met said blonde pilot who once came to visit Mav with flowers.

Well, he was pushed into Mav's room, rather rudely, by his giant of a RIO.

"Huh. Blonde Ice Cube, I presume?"

"It's Mister Iceman to you doctor!"

"Oh. And you are?"

"Free for a coffee right now. I think it best to leave these two alone."

Thia is how Doctor Mother Goose met Hulking Guy. Instant meet-cute.

Many years later, his son Bradley became a doctor. Chief Dr Bradshaw loved to dump his idiot best friend into Dr Bradshaw's care.

"What did you do AGAIN, Mav?!".

Then Mav tried to justify himself but it's hard to resist Baby Goose's sad brown eyes. So, he always tried to be on his best behaviour. Only for his favourite godson though.

Of course one of Mav's precious Daggers had to be hospitalised because of a training accident.

Jake "Hangman" Seresin thought for a moment the accident was way more serious 'cause wasn't he seeing double?

"Wow. Are there two Dr. Mc Steamy & Dreamy Moustache? Wow. Lucky me. Coyote. Do you see that?! Wow. Do you do house visits in case I have a problem later? Yes or Yes?"

"OMG. Don't flirt with my father!"

"But you don't mind my flirting with you, I hope?"

"Nope. He doesn't mind. And he's single."

"OMG. DAD. Don't pimp me?!"

"Ah. You do your best Navy fighter pilot a great service. Much appreciated Older Dr Sexy."

"Uh-huh. I'm out of here. You got it, son?"

"Ooooooh. Dad and son? Nice."

"Oh my god."

"Jake's fine for you, Sugar."

Slider carrying Mav on a Volley day because he should've stayed with them playing

Now, I absolutely love the idea of Mav being heavy because it makes sense since he's a soldier

But fuck it because here he's not human and to reach high speeds he needs to be light (kinda like bird bones are somehow hollow), and he's smol, so everyone picks him up

I have many regrets making Mav a peregrine falcon –all of them being the marks of the wings– but Slider is a bearded vulture and I love him

It's 3am, I'm still doing the thing, I just have ADHD and many dogs (Also they ate my drawing tablet pen and I can't do anything about it (McSobbing) so I'm stuck doing trad stuff

Slider is a restless sleeper. His roommate at the barracks kicks him out pretty regularly because they can't handle the tossing and turning anymore.

He's claimed one of the couches in the common area, it barely holds him, but it's comfortable enough to rest. Tonight though he ends up sprawled out on "his" couch in the common area, eyes glazed over staring at an infomercial, unable to sleep.

Goose, having woken up from a bad dream, wanders out, not wanting to disturb Mav; stands in the doorway watching Slider.

Slider shifts his position every few minutes, one leg tossed over the leg of the couch. He's bouncing it, fingers picking at an overstuffed pillow he's got clutched to his chest. Goose can feel the exhaustion radiating off of him.

Quietly, he steps into the room, turning the television off, casting the room into darkness. Slider's protest dies on his lips when Goose grabs the pillow tossing it aside. He stretches out on top of Slider, though it takes a few moments of adjusting and awkwardly placed elbows.

Eventually they settle, Goose's head on Slider's chest. He's humming an old lullaby, while Slider's hands ease up and down his back.

In the morning they can't look at each other without a flush rising on their face. Neither will admit it, but it's the best night's sleep they've ever had.

Guys guys guys guys guys !

I feel like I talk a lot about how in love with Nick Slider is but I NEED you to know Nick is just as stupidly in love with Slider as Slider is with him. Like, this is the photo GOOSE keeps of Slider in his wallet and when people ask who he has at home he shows them this photo (and very obnoxiously points out the ring on Slider’s finger and how he put it there and yeah yeah yeah) and then HE gushes for fifteen uninterrupted minutes about Slider.

So yeah.

In your brain imagine how stupid Ron gets over Nick and just know in your heart of hearts that that Nick is just as stupid about Slider.

GOD they’re the gayest people alive FUCK.

atc!goose and commercial pilot!slider (post-tg '86)

”Oh, c’mon, what’s that Cessna doin’ there? Oh my God – Cessna DW744, you’re free to GO – nope, they’re not listening. Do I need to go knockin’ on their window or what, what am I supposed to do?”

At times like these Goose wishes he could be back in the cockpit with Mav but instead, he’s in this sweltering air control tower, about to have an ulcer. Yeah, he’s having a great time.

That’s when the line crackles and a different voice filters through: ”Tower, this is Delta-324 at 3000 feet, asking permission to approach… that you, Goose?”

It takes a moment to register and then Goose gasps and nearly drops the clipboard, his heart slamming in his throat. ”Holy shit, Delta-324, tower copy – Ron?”

He hears a warm, familiar chuckle on the other end of the line.”Hell yeah. Should’ve known it was you, I’d recognize that honk anywhere. How’re you doing?”

”Great, great – except there’s a Cessna is parked right in the middle of the taxiway and the traffic’s jammed ’cause it can’t decide where it’s going. So we’re waiting. Other than that, I’m great, how was Detroit?”

Slider hums. ”Boring, rained the whole time, the visibility was all shot to shit, the usual – hey, you free for dinner later?”

”Oh, that’d be great. Okay – looks like the Cessna’s finally gotten the memo, so you’re clear to land, runway R16, proceed at your own pace, Delta-324.”

”Great, got ya, Delta-324 on runway R16. See you on the ground, Goose.”

A soft smile curves to Goose’s mouth as he cradles the headset microphone gently. ”You bet, safe landing, Ron.”
