Man, finally got around to coloring this. Yay. I've been struggling with the fact my tablet and art programs have not been recognizing pressure sensitivity, it's been all or nothing with my colors/shading and it's limiting. I took some time to try and fix it and I feel like it's -kind of- working, so I probably have some settings to tweak.

Hopeful Pacific Rim Headcanons!!!!

Getting exposed to the anteverse made Raleigh healthier, somehow. The theory is that the breach did something to him when it scanned his genetic code, the same as Mako.

Newt and Hermann only know about it 'cause they drifted with that kaiju brain and recognised the strange part of their blood samples. They are also currently working on their memories to see if they can learn more about the kaijus and prevent another breach from happening.

Mako, Newt, Hermann and Raleigh are not entirely human anymore? They are not sure either way.

The closing of the breach, as violent and unexpected as it was, warped Earth time frame. It took LOCCENT some hours to notice that Sttiker Eureka seemed to be floating in the ocean as if nothing had happened. It didn't cure Pentecost like it happened with Raleigh, but it kept them (Stacker and Chuck) alive.

Herc doesn't believe in miracles and he doesn't give credit to the kaijus for the good in his life. For him, getting Chuck back is entirely a product of the skill of the rangers he works with. Humanity doing the impossible time and time and time again.

As an apology for defunding the jeager program and almost dooming humanity in the process, the United Nations kept the PPDC running. There's not enough money to return the jaeger program to what it was, so they all have to adapt.

The PPDC focus is on an hypothetically second invasion now.

J-techs work on creating a new mark of jaegers, smaller, safer, cheaper, but still enough to face a kaiji and win. There are some improvements they want to make as well, like a mechanism of defense that protect the jaeger limbs, maybe spikes or something like that; new escape-pods for the pilots; a kaiju dna detector/radar; and many more.

Along with the classic studies, K-science now includes a whole side dedicated on studying the social and possibly cultural aspects of the kaijus and the anteverse. Another side is dedicated to a better use of the kaiju remins and parts, lile studies on how to regenerate skin or reverse brain damage or use the same system of the kaijus to help the decontamination of the planet.

With the experience of former jaeger pilots, the program's updating the whole cadet training. New simulations based on double and even triple events with Slattern as a possible enemy, new fight techniques for underwater and on air scenarios, a basics of kaiju anatomy and strategies... The pilots also help with the majority of the research nd development of the other areas!

The UN also granted the PPDC the right of working independently of any nation and the exclusivity of jaeger creations. Super important to avoid military forces trying to create their own jaegers to use against mankind, or companies trying to use the drift technology for cold profit, with no ethics attached.

The PPDC allow teens above 16 years old to start their studies in ares like k-science and j-tech, but to join the jaeger pilots program the person must be 18 years old and only become legal rangers after their 22th birthday. Without the kaijus threatening the world, the PPDC has the luxury of going slow with the cadets, selecting only the best and even providing a lot of experience and grow before putting them in charge of a real jaeger. That's to prevent another Scott Hansen, or to prevent teens like Chuck and Raleigh from jumping into the fire before properly maturing, since there's no need of being in such a hurry.

The wall becomes a giant memorial, with artist allowed to practice their crafts on it as they pleased. It's also a reminder: humanity is not alone, the kaijus could come back. Yet, as long as the jaeger program exists, there's always hope to cancel the apocalypse, stop the clock.

Alllllllright I just rewatched Treasure Planet and have more thoughts about the Pacific Rim crossover I talked about here:

I still stand by most of these character swaps. But now I propose some plot changes:

Jake's mother isn't in the picture; Stacker takes on the role of Mrs. Hawkins

Mako is treated like family but wasn't actually adopted by Stacker; she's an astrophysicist like Dr. Dopplar but isn't going to be the comic relief character

Sonny (mentioned in Uprising) is Billy Bones

After the inn burns down, Mako suggests creating a decoy of the device as a precaution; on the ship, Jake purposely hands over the decoy and keeps the real map in his satchel (and this will have consequences during the mutiny)

The kaiju's names are used for the pirates (e.g. Scroop is Knifehead); however, "Hannibal Chau" will be the assumed name of Onibaba (former first mate of Capt. Slattern)

Chau is gonna have gold-plated limbs in homage of his shoes

Yancy Becket is actually the captain and Raleigh is the first mate

During the black hole incident, Raleigh will actually be at the helm cause he was closest; Knifehead will corner Yancy but they will both go overboard

Chau will see this happen and call it an accident to a) avoid suspicion and b) protect Jake; however, he will absolutely take out his anger at Knifehead on the rest of the pirates to keep them in line

Raleigh assumes the role of captain, but the change will get the pirates itching to mutiny (this is when Jake overhears their plan)

During the mutiny, Jake forgot that he switched the devices and they land on the planet without the real map

Newt takes on the role of B.E.N. and "N.E.W.T." will actually stand for... something

Jake and NEWT go back to the ship to retrieve the real map; they run into the kaiju!pirates from Uprising

They come back and get captured and the plot follows Treasure Planet from there

Hello! I hope you like this one! I went AU for this ask and wrote up a quick Pacific Rim drabble with Pilot!Reader and Hangman! Here is Kiss #41 Because the World is Saved. All of the Jaeger names are thanks to @thedroneranger and @mayhemmanaged brainstorming and help!

A Kiss After Saving the World

It hasn't been very long at all since monsters began terrorizing the world. But they're not anything like what all of the old science fiction novels said they'd be like. For one, they didn't come to us from space. They emerged from a colossal portal at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean called the breach. The monsters, called Kaiju, attacked coastal cities while causing unprecedented damage. No conventional weapons or technologies could touch them. In the decade since the first Kaiju attacks, things have changed drastically.

Never has the world been more united. The only line of defense between the coastal cities of the world and the Kaiju were colossal piloted robots called the Jaeger. Each robot was operated by two pilots, attached via neural link, each responsible for a side of the robot. By linking the pilots, you could ensure seamless communication between them and the two could work as one to drive the Kaiju back. It worked - for a while. Then bigger and more dangerous Kaiju started to ascend from the Breach and more and more Jaegers started to fall in their wake. That's when the world began building the sea walls to protect humanity while decommissioning the Jaegers. The walls didn’t really work, but there’s nothing the Pan Pacific Defense Corps could do. There's only one Jaeger facility operating in the world now, the Hong Kong Shatterdome.

There are only four Jaegers in the colossal hangar and enough crew and operations personnel to ensure they’ll be piloted properly. There is also only one chance to shut down the breach for good. It’ll take a targeted nuclear warhead to the center of the breach. You’re the newest pilot in the Shatterdome and the only pilot compatible with Lieutenant Commander Jake Seresin, callsign Hangman, formerly of the United States Navy, currently of the Pan Pacific Defence Corps. He’s an interesting man, Commander Seresin, taciturn and cocky by turn even as he maintains that you will never be good enough to pilot this mission.

You’ve had three Kaiju battles since you took up the vacant pilot seat on the Gypsy Starfall and Jake still believes you’re not going to be good enough. You’re starting to believe it yourself. Every time you drift with him, you see his prior drift partner, Lieutenant Commander Javy Machado, the man who was once known as Coyote. Hangman and Coyote piloted the Gypsy Starfall for over four years, fighting back dozens of Category Three and Four Kaiju successfully, but Jake refuses to let you in. Your drifts with him bridge the gap between shallow and deep by a thread every time, one stray thought away from dissolving into chaos. Through sheer force of will, Jake’s managed to keep you from plummeting into that chaos.

You’re in the final briefing before the nuclear run at the Breach when the sirens blare.

“It’s a Category Five Kaiju, codename Slattern. All Pilots to their Jaegers. This is an all hands on deck situation.” Colonel Kazansky sounds as serious as you’ve ever heard him.

Within minutes you’re suited up and in Gypsy Starfall’s cockpit. Across the way you can see Payback and Fanboy loading up into Banshee Dagger and Phoenix and Bob sinking into Stryker Mayhem. You know that Rooster and Maverick are in Eagle Tirade to your right as well.

“Peony, do you read me?” Jake’s voice always makes you feel like you belong in a Jaeger when you hear him in the drift.

“Hangman, loud and clear.” Even your brainwaves sound nervous.

The four Jaegers move in unison, progressing in a straight line towards the breach. There’s a wicked storm brewing over the expanse and right as the Gypsy Starfall crosses the final defenses of the Hong Kong Sea Wall, you see the colossal head of Slattern peek out of the rift. It’s the biggest Kaiju you’ve ever seen and it’s not alone. It’s being guarded by two Category Threes, Otachi and Leatherback. It’s Otachi that you and Jake had beat back most recently and the Kaiju obviously holds a grudge because it’s rushing you as soon as it sees you. Thank god for your newly updated energy blade and the cover from Eagle Tirade’s guns. It’s through sheer luck that you spear Otachi through the heart. But Otachi’s death, and Leatherback’s death soon afterward drive Slattern into a driving rage. The colossal creature rushes towards the wall and soon all you can hear are Jake’s thoughts as the two of you fight with all your breath to beat the brute back.

You can’t let him decimate the Hong Kong Shatterdome and Hong Kong City. Jake’s entire family is there. He (You) can’t afford to bury any more people he (you) love. It’s with a roar of pure desperation that you both activate the one mayday weapon onboard Gypsy Starfall other than the nuclear warhead housed in her chest, a sonic cannon. The battering soundwaves drive Slattern back inch by excruciating inch until the brute’s teetering on the edge of the rift.

“We have to push him in, Jake!” You’re screaming down the drift link between you.

“Yeah, sweetheart, I know. But how?” He sounds exhausted, far more like an old man than a 30 year old.

“We’re the only thing heavy enough, Jake! One push and he takes us and the warhead with him. I’ll eject you and take on Star’s full neural load. Once we’re through the rift, I’ll blow the warhead.” You can feel the arguments against your plan even before they fly through the drift to you.

“I don’t have anybody in Hong Kong waiting for me.” A tear drips down your cheek at the thought of leaving your friends, leaving Jake, behind.

“You have me waiting for you, sweetheart. So we’ll do this instead. We’ll both push Slattern into the rift. Then we’ll both eject, okay?” But you don’t even have the chance to respond as you see another colossal Cat 5 Kaiju begin to approach through the Breach. You and Jake gun the engines on Gypsy Starfall and shove Slattern and his friends back to the hell they came from. That’s the last thing you remember.

You wake up to the sound of waves lapping against your ejection pod. The Pacific Ocean is roiling around you as waves higher than your head bat the pod around like it’s a toy. Jake! Where is he? It’s far too long before the waves subside and you finally see his pod floating a ways away.

“Jake?” Your voice is a hoarse scream as you grab a bit of driftwood and begin to row towards his pod. When you open the pod he’s just come to.

“Jake!” You’re crying again.

“Peony! You’re alive!” He kisses you then, soft and sweet. You can’t help how you sob in his arms when you pull away.

“We did it, sweetheart. We saved the world.” That’s where you stay until the helicopters come find you, tethered to the one man who you know better than you know yourself. Your soulmate and if you dare say it, the love of your life. Nothing can bring the two of you down. Not even a Kaiju.

The kaiju of the Pacific Rim draft script

Travis Beacham's Pacific Rim draft script has a ton of problems, but the kaiju are definitely none of them! They're definitely a little different from the movie kaiju, biologically-speaking. They have red blood rather than blue, and there's nothing to suggest that toxic blood is a standard feature. There's also no reveal that they're clones with identical DNA.

(NOTE: I said earlier that it's unclear whether they have a hivemind, but I overlooked where Doctor Ivo Czerny said that there's a telepathic part of their brain that's tuned to signals from the Anteverse. The script doesn't use the word "hivemind," but the idea's pretty obviously there.) Here's a list of the kaiju from the draft script:

TRESPASSER: The first kaiju to pass through the Interstice. Category 5. Attacked Osaka and killed Mako Mori's father. Description: ...long and crocodilian, scabrously armored with rugged scales and scutes. Notes: This is the first of several kaiju to share a name with a kaiju in the actual film. However, Trespasser - like all of the others - doesn't have much in common with its movie counterpart.

UNNAMED NIGHTMARE KAIJU: Early in the story, Felicity "Flick" Kincaid has a nightmare about her dead fiance Yancy Antrobus, and sees a kaiju. Description: Hundreds of feet overhead, it's jagged jaws glow furnace-like from within. Ignescent saliva drips from it's teeth like molten napalm, fueling the encroaching wildfire. Notes: Yeah, toxic glowing blood is cool, but saliva that sets shit on fire? That's absolutely metal, man. DENGUE: Encountered by Newt and Flick in Miraflores, defeated by Puma Real. Description: Arachnoid legs bristling with hairs. Scores of black eyes above a wide reptilian grin. Some unholy fusion of tarantula and dragon. An obscene, alien spectacle. Notes: Dengue doesn't just resemble a tarantula - this beast can flick hairs like one, too! They don't appeal to be particularly damaging to the jaeger Puma Real, but at the size of arrows they're definitely a problem for the civilian population.

SLATTERN: Appears in one of Raleigh Antrobus and Mako Mori's training simulations. Description: SLATTERN boasts a shape like an armless carnosaur: a thick, serpentine body on mighty raptorial legs. A head vaguely like a moray eel. A long tail, barbed at the end. It draws patient predatory circles around us, lean and powerful as a panther, scales shifting between jet black and iridescent blue in the fog-stifled light. Notes: The way this is described sounds like it would look absolutely goofy if you drew it out, which is the opposite of a problem where kaiju are concerned.

TORTUGA: The kaiju that killed Yancy Antrobus. Shows up a lot through Raleigh's flashbacks. Description: Tortuga is described as "hulking and turtle-like, carapace studded with jagged rows of bony plates." It's also described with a "trifurcated beak" and a "harpoon-like tongue." Notes: On the one hand, Knifehead made a much more imposing figure than Tortuga. On the other... we don't really have enough turtle kaiju.

UNNAMED WOODLOUSE KAIJU: Lets off an EMP in Busan. Description: Described as "a mountain of crustacean armor, like an outsized mole crab or woodlouse." And "Under its semi-translucent carapace, something writhes and shifts." Notes: We were THIS CLOSE to having an isopod kaiju! Oh well, at least the kaiju skin mites look like isopods - I can't really complain too much, can I? INVIDIA: That thing squirming around inside the isopod is the cat-3 kaiju Invidia! Fought and defeated by Raleigh Antrobus and Mako Mori. Description: Described as "a spindly, mantid shape; tall as a skyscraper." She's described as having "a viper-like head" and "a set of long translucent wings." Notes: Invidia can't fly, but her wings give her added mobility - and create vortices in the air that throw vehicles around! Also, Invidia fills the same narrative role as Otachi - she's the first kaiju that Raleigh and Mako defeat together, using their jaeger's sword.

OOLONG: Appears in one of Mako Mori and Raleigh Antrobus's training simulations. Description: ...a chitinous crab-like dragon with black exoskeletal armor and giant pincers. Notes: I think a spider-dragon and a crab-dragon in one movie might be a little redundant, but I feel like this beast has potential.

KOMODO: A cat-4 kaiju that attacks Minato Mirai. Defeated by Duc and Kaori Jessup. Description: A long, lizard-like creature called KOMODO. Rows of teeth curl sloppily from his jaws. A baroque frill of coiled and braided horns embellishes his head. He scrabbles on six splayed legs; tail terminating in a spiked thagomizer. Notes: Do you know how many kaiju have thagomizers? Not nearly enough of them. Also, this GINORMOUS beast (it's taller than Lady Danger!) spits acid. Definitely inspired Otachi a bit.

FULCRUM: A kaiju that attacks Minato Mirai along with Komodo. Defeated by Mako Mori and Raleigh Antrobus. Description: Tentacles hide his jaws. Longer tentacles trail from his taloned arms. A scourge of tails whips the air behind him. He is kaiju FULCRUM -- an alien chaos of tentacles and dinosaurian limbs, his movements fluid and menacing, as much like a predator stalking primeval jungles as like a kraken prowling sunken ruins. He glisters with bioluminescence. He climbs ashore and rises to his full height -- almost a third bigger than the Mark-2. He lashes out with one of his long tentacles. The mech dodges and as the tentacle rakes past us, we see the rows of cruel, hooked claws running the length of it. Notes: Not to sound like a kaiju groupie, but I love Fulcrum. This absolute BEAST tosses around these things called "Berserkers" - small tentacle-covered creatures that grab and rip apart anything they can get hold of before they swell up and EXPLODE. Oh, and when they rip its head off? Its body just keeps going! Role-wise, Fulcrum seems to have inspired Leatherback a bit - and perhaps inspired the tentacles on Leatherback's head? UNNAMED WORMLIKE KAIJU: Briefly attacks Lady Danger. Description: Described as "wormlike" and having "crocodilian jaws." That's all there is to it, really.

TENGU: Appears toward the story's climax, as Lady Danger approaches the Interstice. Defeated by Duc and Kaori Jessup. Description: A horrific skein of dozens of viper heads on long sinuous necks erupting from a body like a naked bat. Notes: Absolutely hideous beast! Makes me think Ghidorah and Rodan. I'd honestly like to see this one on film. PHARAOH: Appears toward the story's climax. Defeated by Kaori and Duc Jessup. Description: Something between a scarab and a bull, with vicious mandibles and long horns like a rhino beetle. Notes: This one just sounds like a scaled-up beetle. It's a little difficult to imagine that it would be anything other than a Very Good Boy if left to its own devices. I mean, it's probably only attacking the jaegers because it thinks they're mating rivals. SCUNNER: Appears toward the story's climax. Defeated by Kaori and Duc Jessup. Description: Beige-hued skin lends it a disturbingly human look; but grotesquely misshapen, joints bulging and twisted. A skull-like face, jaws over-crowded with jagged teeth. Notes: I really think the sudden appearance of a human-looking kaiju would have been very jarring! It wouldn't have worked in the film that was actually made, but part of me wants to see a movie where this could have happened.

Only piece of kaiju media I've seen is "Pacific Rim", I think. I liked all the critter designs in that one. The only name I remember is Slattern.

My other favourite kaiju design is a spoiler for a video game that came out recently, so I won't say what it is or what it's from.

I have finally seen Pacific Rim (ten years late), and I love the Kaiju designs.

Otachi being a wyvern was fantastic, and I noticed the way the forelimbs moved and called it being able to fly before it revealed. (I blame playing Skyrim for recognizing the movements)

The last Kaiju (Slattern) was absolutely inspired by Typhon, at least in part.

Hehe, I'm glad we're on the same level. Shao certainly was attractive too~

But moreover, the designs in that film are peak. They're so memorable and alien. It's what most kaiju flicks should strive for regarding beast design.

Fuck, this is giving me ideas now. Imagine one pilot experiencing the other's trauma - one of them getting lost in the drift and the other seeing how bad things got. Luz seeing how hard it was growing up in Gravesfield, him being abandoned by Caleb, him killing Caleb.

Ed and Em do it more-or-less perfectly since they've shared the other's trauma already. Alador and Amity's relationship actually mends as a result of it.
