okay here is another thing I love and wanted to share.... so if you have insta, the National Aquarium in NZ have a page where each month they have a naughty and nice for the penguins 🐧. I find it very funny (though my humour may be odd). Check it out or goggle if you want one day. Here is an example of one of my favs
Im actually a little jealous of Mo I mush day 😄
I absolutely love this and will go follow them asap!
But on the talks of penguins, have you heard of Brigadier Nils Olav of the Norwegian Army?
This is our boy
Here he is, posing with the Kings guards
And another of him inspecting the troup
Being saluted 🥺😍
And being knighted
He’s got his little «luemerke» on his wing to show his status 😍🥺😌

@duchessofostergotlands Sir Nils Olav III has been promoted to the rank of major general for “setting a superb example for the rest of the penguins”. I saw this and had to tell you immediately.

One of the best things I have learned while doing research for writing fan fiction is that the country of Norway, in real life, for real, knighted a penguin and gave him a position in the Norwegian army. This penguin is named Brigadier Sir Nils Olav III, and he lives in the Edinburgh Zoo. Every time the Norwegian King's Guard visits the zoo, they promote him in rank. He is now the colonel-in-chief of the King's Guard.
My favorite parts of his Wikipedia page are:
"The knighthood was approved by King Harald V and Nils was the first penguin to receive such an honour in the Norwegian Army."
At his knighthood ceremony, "a citation from the King was read out, which described Nils as a penguin 'in every way qualified to receive the honour and dignity of knighthood'."
"Nils Olav now outranks Nils Egelien" aka the human soldier he was originally named after.
And finally this:

No matter how bad your job is, take heart that you’re not in the Norwegian military, and outranked by a bloody penguin.

They knighted a fucking penguin. Why would anyone think there ever be logic to these things?
SIR NILS OLAV EARNED HIS POSITION, ACTUALLY!!

Some ScotNor headcanons,
Bc it’s been a while since I shared some.
Norway always buys so many books whenever he visits Scotland, because they’re so much cheaper there, to the point where Scotland has a few shelves on his bookcase filled with Norway’s books instead of his own. They don’t always fit in Nor’s case, and sometimes it’s nice to just have some books there waiting for him.
Scotland is 100% the driver out of these two, because he doesn’t trust Norway behind a wheel. Scotland is actually surprisingly quite careful when he drives, whereas Norway always goes way too fast under the logic of “I’ve driven this speed over icy mountains, this is nothing 🙄”
Whenever they visit one another, they have a morning routine to wake up at 06:00, go on a quick morning walk, come back and have breakfast, and then get started on their activities for the day. It works for them! The only problem is when Scotland wants to stay in bed and cuddle for a bit, but Norway doesn’t understand the concept of a lie in.
Nor will take frequent naps throughout the day though, if they head inside and sit down for a moment, he will accidentally fall asleep on Scot’s chest.
They enter charity marathons together quite frequently
Scotland has a hearing dog, called lassie, and bc she’s a Scottish terrier her paws aren’t fit for Norwegian winters, so norway keeps dog slippers in his flat (or house) just for when Scotland visits during the colder months.
Norway is constantly knitting things for Scotland. Those happen to be some of the only items of clothing Nor won’t steal from Scotland and wear himself.
Scotland speaks to his highland cows- neòinean and eilidh- in Norwegian to try and practice the language for his boyfriend
Due to multiple different factors, but mainly their shared desperation to cling to independence, these two are incredibly slow burn and, despite centuries of pining, move at an exhaustingly slow pace that would tire out most other people, but it’s just what feels natural to them, ig.
They both like to claim that Sir Nils Olav III is their son, and they will get into debates over whether he is actually a Norwegian penguin or a Scottish penguin.

Norway 🇳🇴
Residing in the Edinburgh Zoo is a penguin. But not just any penguin. It’s Brigadier Sir Nils Olav III, a knighted member of the Norwegian army!
His title is inheritable, and two other penguins before him also served as Major General! You can watch the video of his knighting on YouTube.
