I’VE NEVER BEEN MORR OFFENDED! I WILL DEFEND THAT PENGUIN WITH MY LIFE!
The reason I know Nils deserves his position is because I would never lay down my life for my country but I would go to battle for that little penguin in a heartbeat.

Not to play the Elder Royal Watcher card but you have to ration out your outrage or this place will eat you alive. All that's happened is some of you have realised...the monarchy isn't equal? What an absolute shocker. This doesn't negatively impact anyone at all so just chill out and have a nap. Someone else will do something controversial next week, move on.
I don't think that some people understand that contributions to art don't have to always be in the form of singing, dancing, acting and painting (and then going on to use those amazing talents to earn money). You can be a contributor by being loud and proud about your love of art which Kate has always been, having an informal artistic portfolio (we have seen Kate's drawings, paintings, photographs and musical abilities) and being the Patron and supporter of several art initiatives and organisations and being at the heart of raising money and their profiles. Especially after Hold Still and the success of that.
Arguments can be made about the fact that Kate hasn't been a contributor in the most mainstream sense but to pretend like it's surprising that she would get it is a sign of ignorance, possible misogyny (especially when the person doesn't seem to have a problem with William's honour) and a bit of delusion (because, hello she's RoYaL) or a combination of all of these.
I also detect a bit of annoyance towards her when it should really be towards Charles. He gave it to her, did he not? I highly doubt she sought it especially given what she's currently dealing with and for almost every other order, there has been a royal who has been the first to receive it. Why is it suddenly a problem because the first is Kate in this scenario?
As always, I love the way you answer questions and hope you never change.
So I think if Kate was an ordinary person she wouldn't have got this. That doesn't mean she's done nothing of value. It just means that if you take the most recent inductee Shirley Bassey as an example she has had an over 70 year career in the arts, is one of the best selling female musicians the UK has ever produced, and already had a Damehood for her contribution to the arts. So if Catherine Middleton was just a normal rich lady who had done all the same things for the art world she wouldn't qualify yet. She could certainly have got an MBE or something like that, but not an honour at this level.
However, she isn't just Catherine Middleton. That was my point really: it's not something she got entirely on merit, sure, but she's the latest in a line of thousands of royals over the centuries who have got honours and positions that they wouldn't have got if they were ordinary people. The argument the original anon made was specifically that Kate hadn't done enough to earn it and my response was none of the royals have earned most of their honours because that's not how honours for royals work. So that second anon's argument - nepotism's ok as long as you're not the first generation to benefit - makes no sense to me. Either they earned it or they didn't, and that's either a problem or it's not. And that is an excellent point that Charles is the one to hold responsible, not Kate. She didn't keep him chained in the basement until she got an honour most people didn't even know existed lol.
This isn't at all shitting on Kate but per the website ("major contribution to the arts, science, medicine, or government lasting over a long period of time"), what are her major contributions to any of those fields and what period of time are we talking about? She's done good work but I honestly think it's a stretch to call anything major or over a long period of time
While I don't disagree with the point, if you're upset about royals getting positions they haven't earned then oh boy you're going to find following royals very hard lol.
That's how honours work. What did William contribute to the military or the civil service that was enough for you not to mention him being Great Master of the Order of the Bath? What have Sofia and Carl Philip contributed to Finnish society that is enough to justify them having the Finnish Order of the White Rose they wore yesterday? Royals don't get Honours or Orders through merit, necessarily. They get them for diplomatic reasons or because they are acting as a "sponsor" of the Order, as a representative of the person who issues them all.

i've heard about the insulated roof story but then i google and found this "When my daughter was three weeks old he told me she resembled the carving of St Guthlac in the church. Later that day, he asked the cleaning ladies which polish they used."
brb. i'm going to cry in the corner.
Both sound incredibly accurate and just further demonstrate why he is objectively the best royal.
The Princess of Wales is now a Companion of Honour, which recognises achievement in arts, medicine, sciences and public service. Catherine becomes the first royal to be appointed as a Companion of Honour in the order's 107-year history. She joins a select group of people honoured for their contribution to public life, such as artists and creative figures, currently including Sir David Attenborough, Ian McEwan and Sir Elton John.
