Well then...
It's been two weeks since the final episode (HOW?) and i have finally sorted my thoughts enough to write little about it (mainly for myself - as always).
First of: I fucking LOVED it!!! Yes, it wasn't perfect but that's only the studios fault and nobody else's.
(although I do have a few issues with the editing of especially the last episode: there's too many things wrong to ignore it. There's tiny bits not lining up before which is fine because one can overlook them; Ed going in for the kiss at the beach from the left and the close up is from the right, things like that. In the last epi there's too much of that: the crew behind them when Izzy dies, that's just bad editing; although once again, I'm pretty sure that's the studio's fault, if they could've done it like they wanted to, there would've been reshoots for it *sighs* It's a shame, because that scene is beautiful otherwise; sad as hell but incredibly well done. Taika and Con are really going for it, and it's amazing!)
Edit: knowing now that they cut FORTY fucking % I only keep my 'critics' because this is mainly for me! Knowing that, I am even more in awe about what they managed to make with that!!! They are all fucking MAGICAL for making this show as beautiful and amazing as they did!!!! And I really hope ONE DAY we can get a Director's Cut or something that's gonna make it all more smooth and just that more coherent, just like DJ would've wanted it to look!!!
Anyhow, i loved it. Im so happy to now have 8 more episode to obsess over again, to rewatch whenever I want and revel in the fucking MAGIC they gave us! The writers have really outdone themselves this season! It's tight and fast-paced but it still works fantastically well!
Personally, I've never been more in love with Taika - his acting was outstanding this season!!! Absolutely NO notes on that!! That man's soo fucking talented that whenever he says otherwise I wanna smack him over the head and shake him. I REALLY hope he does more of this because it was insanely good and I want more. (also: he's never looked more gorgeous!! the HAIR! the BEARD! the fucking EYES!!! GUH!! I wanna give him all the awards for this role alone but that's just me!!! So yeah, much much love for him!!) Same goes for Rhys - they're both soo fucking good together, and I cannot wait for them to do more drama because they'd fucking smash it! And not to forget the rest of the cast: every single one gave their absolutely best and I loved every single second of it!!!
What else? The fucking LOCATIONS!! God, I've always wanted to go to AoNZ but this season made me so much more needy!!! (not happening anytime soon but yeah, ONE DAY!!). Sooo stunning, sooo damn beautiful!! GUH!!!
Also: Guest stars!!! First and foremost: FAMILY!! Say what you want about that, but I fucking LOVE when shows do that!!! Taika's kids made me squeal soo much in the BTS vids already, but having DJ's wife in it as well??? With a rather substantial role? And her absolutely smashing it?! Totally made that episode even more amazing!!!
VERY much in love with Ruibo!!! Her Queen was incredible and I loved every second she was on screen!! Her character was so nuanced and wonderful and perfectly balanced. I REALLY hope we can get her back for a 3rd season - she fucking rocked it!!!
And we got ALL THE KISSES!!! I mean, I was hoping to get some more, and something a little more passionate than in S1 (don't get me wrong, I still love that one but yeah...) And we got soo many!! And soo many wonderful ones!!! And no I can't pick a fav: I love them all. The moonlight one had me losing my shit all over the place (at work no less) - the callbacks, Ed's fucking EYES and Stede's shy glances!! GUH, that was just soo delicious!!! The Calypso one was just hot as hell and I may have cursed them for not making that longer!! And the beach one was just utter perfection! Their faces, their smiles, Ed's 'I love you' still makes my stomach all gooey!!!
And then there's Izzy. *sighs* My little angry raccoon man. Our indestructible little fucker. Con motherfucking O'Neill. UGH!! I hated him (Izzy, not Con) all the way through S1! There was not one redeeming feature on that bastard. BUT... when you've read all the Ed/Stede fics and you start to look for something new and then find some beautifully written Izzy/Roach ones and then start to like him and eventually read more and then end up reading (and writing) some SteddyHands and you're like 'yeah, I can see it now'. It also helped A LOT that Con's such a darling man and so real for it all, and you have too much time to fall in love with him after all... So naturally you start to like S2!Izzy. And then you start to love him, and you fucking ADORE the SASSINESS he's got this season. (Still not over the morning after Izzy - the SASS was through the fucking roof!!!) AND THEN THEY LET HIM SING!!!! DEAR GOD!!! I would've loved for a full on musical episode (I mean, that talent show would've been such a GREAT opportunity for that!) The ENTIRE cast is freakishly talented and they all could've pulled that off. So naturally I was VERY HAPPY that at least they let Izzy sing!!! I'm still not over that!! (And Im highly amused that even some of the crew had no idea that he could do that!!! I mean... he got a fucking OLIVIER award to prove it!!!) (but then again, I spend way too much time on YT to find his stuff so that's probably just me!) AND DID HE DELIVER!!! The whole party bit, with the make-up and the shyness at first and then just BURSTING it out was just sooo fucking beautiful!!! Every damn frame of that was a bloody masterpiece and I'd KILL for the bits they cut - I'd pay a very good price for a DVD with ALL the deleted bits because I KNOW that DJ had to tighten that baby down massively!!! I NEED THAT!!! *exhales*
So yeah, S2 made the impossible possible and made me LOVE Izzy fucking Hands! Which im certain was their plan all along - otherwise his death wouldn't have been this devastating!!! Which is fucking WAS!! I cried at work (thankfully there was nobody there!)! And im still not over it!! I totally understand WHY they did it. Doesn't mean it doesn't still hurt. (here the strange editing sort of took away from the PAIN of it all a bit but if you concentrate on Ed and Iz it can be ignored).
*sighs* I'm just so sad that some people went and attacked our beautiful writers like they did. I know it's only a small part of an otherwise amazing fandom but I HATE that they're soo fucking loud - i can only hope DJ and his writers know that most people love what they did! (and NO, I do NOT wanna discuss it. you can be sad, yes, and you can be mad too but you do NOT go and shit-talk the writers or send them death threats - that's an absolute no-go! And no, in a show that's all around queer and has a lot of disabled character, it's not homophobic or ableist - it IS after all just a tv show. If YOU put too much of your own wants into it, that's on YOU! Ugh, sorry, didn't want to get into this but it makes me soo mad!!!) Once again, I'm very glad that I follow only the right people, no need to block or unfollow anyone on here or on Twitter! *blows kisses*
So yeah, despite some small flaws and scenes I KNOW have been cut, I love the second season just as much (if not more) than the 1st one. I can only hope that the studios decide to let DJ finish it. Im so happy with what we got - fanfiction can totally work with that. But I would love to see more Ed and Stede (trying and probably failing) to run their Inn, see the crew of the Revenge get into insane adventures, maybe even meet some more new characters (JC and BM still need to make a cameo!) - there's still soo much story to tell and I would LOVE to actually SEE it on screen!!!
I also would LOVE for the cast and crew to be able to finally talk about it, promote it, share stories and pictures and everything during a 3rd (and last) wave of MADNESS surrounding the show. Everyone deserves to bask in the love we have for them and our show. S1 had barely any promo. S2 aired during a strike. S3 could make up for all of that and get cast and crew the love, recognition and adoration they soo very much deserve!!!

okay first of all how does anyone bear to do asks i need to keep switching between two tabs trying to figure out what questions i'm trying to ask, there's got to be an easier way-- BUT right, Behind the Scenes asks: 1, 5, 12, 18 PLEASE, and 23. (PS am i supposed to ask so many? prob not. screw it, i'm greedy (PPS am i supposed to be anon rn idk if that's correct etiquette)) THANKS!
I jot the numbers down somewhere if I'm getting overwhelmed. You did great though! And no, there is no etiquette on how many to ask, don't worry. If there's a double I'll just send you to the other ask. More means I get to talk about fic more, which is great! :3
What was the first fandom and/or pairing that you wrote fic for?
Star Wars, Thrawn x OC. I was pretty sauced. I think I have some great moments in there, and I was free to create all the banter I wanted, etc. But it suffers a LOT from me being completely new to multi chapter work. I go into meandering tengeants and don't know when to stop on the world building. It had its fans and really dragged me into the whole fanfic universe though. Maybe one day I'll finish it, but I had no idea which way to go. I feel like I wrote myself in a corner, somewhat haha
5. What is the perfect environment for you to write in?
I don't mind loud spaces like cafes or pubs, so long as the music isn't obnoxious and I can hear my own. I just like places where nobody is going to come to me to interrupt me. Sadly I live and work in a backpacker hostel, meaning I have 50 odd housemates at any given time, without counting the 250 guests. I get interrupted a LOT. So right now, hidden in my bed or hunkering down at my fav cafe, would be my answer.
12. Is there a trope you haven’t written yet but really want to?
Yes! There's this Tarkin & Ahsoka fic I mentioned in this ask. It focuses on the amnesia trope. I really, really like to write sort of mind fucky things from character PoV. So Tarkin struggling with shattered memories and having to rebuild himself while trusting this total stranger… Hard. Especially when WE all know she's lying to him to try and use him for her side, because the rebellion just needs the help that badly. I do need to make better research on real amnesia before I apply scifi logic to it... And I need to not be hyperfixation on Quaritch's blue ass. His own trope scratches a similar itch, since he's a clone with implanted memories. So identity crisis as well...
18. What is a line/scene you’re really proud of? Give us the DVD commentary for that scene.
OK ok I have this entry from my Hannibal ficlets that focuses on a secret inside the "mind palace" Hannibal Lecter has. I've read all three relevant Hannibal books, watched the films, all TV series… And then I read the book Piranesi by Susanna Clarke. It's excellent and I recommend it. It focuses on a man living inside an enormous house that has three levels going in all directions, with clouds in the top level and a sea with rushing tides in the bottom. There are statues everywhere… And birds… And it's very WTF and it takes you a long time to understand what's going on. It's in this man's pov too which thickens the mystery.
I love the works of Piranesi. He's an italian architect and archaelogist who once got sick. 22 yo and delirious with fever, he sketched a series of 'infinite prisons' which you can see here!
So I'm writing this tiny daily ficlet, trying to stick as close to 200 words as I can, and I was folding myself into a piranesian pretzel trying to FIT THE DAMN EXPRESSION in. Making Hannibal's mind palace into a piranesian thing.
There is a corner of his mind always plagued by snow. It is a torturous journey there, through labyrinthine passages, down echoing stairwells and across bridges arcing over the piranesian landscape of his palace. It is easy to lose one's way, to be distracted by the vaulted ceilings of a chapel, the confines of well used hideouts, or the familiar outlines of his Baltimore office. But if he keeps walking, fingers brushing against all the door-frames of all the halls of his mind, eventually they alight on damp wood, cold and brittle.
[he's off to visit his baby sister, who he keeps in there. He was forced to eat her by soldiers as a child, yeah it's dark]
23. If you had to remix one of your own fics, which would it be and how would you remix it?
I'm not super hung up on this idea. I write and move on. I have 151 works currently and I've been on ao3 for not even 3 years. So as you can imagine I have a tendency to create a new work rather than worry about remixing.
This being said I'd probably completely retool my very first fic, as per answer 1. I'd change the OC, shorten the plot by A LOT, get the action started sooner, completely drop a lot of worldbuilding… It's a slog, which can be very sweet in a fanfic when you're enjoying the slog content, but dear lord, it makes for awkward re-reading. I'd make the OC an alien instead of a human raised by aliens. Too much going on.

i just finished watching scream 6 for the first time and it easily became one of my fav scream movies 🤩
i dont understand how chad lived after being stabbed so many times 😭 and i also knew anika was gonna die but SEEING it happen made my heart audibly crack 🥲 such a good movie tho oml
i’ve only seen 5 & 6, so those are my favorite scream movies 😭👍
anika had so little screen time her actress may as well have been credited as a guest star, but her acting in the ladder scene >>> and she was so pretty</3
and it’s what i’ve come to call “scream logic”. as long as you’re a main character (or part of the core 4 in this case), you can survive anything short of a nuclear bomb explosion with minimal ramifications 👍

I Have Some Feelings
To start let me just emphasize how much I love and adore this show and always will. This was my covid show. Both of my kids loved “Lucifer” and always said I should watch so at the start of covid I binged it and when I say binged, I mean all 4 seasons in a few days and have rewatched so many times I’ve lost count. I think it is timeless, engrossing, original and all around amazing. The writing and the cast were all excellent. The writing was smart and consistently strong and that is so rare.  Funny, sad, poignant, it hit all the notes with very few plot holes or missteps. There is not one episode in the entire series that was not engaging. Even if I didn’t like an episode, it was still well done. What a rarity.
The cast is scary good. Completely underrated. Just all phenomenally talented.  I don’t remember the last time a cast was this strong.  From the core group to both reoccurring and guest stars, the cast was just fantastic.
Tom Ellis, no words.  The man deserves to choose whatever he wants to do acting wise. He should have people breaking down his door. He can truly do it all and do it all well. He took a character that if portrayed by a lesser actor could have come off as a complete asshole and made him one of the most sympathetic and loveable characters in recent history. Ellis made a crime solving devil, a promiscuous man-child that occasionally breaks into song and the evidence room into a beloved character that has become an icon.
Lauren German, WOW.  She is just so damn good. She can break your heart one second and have you laughing the next. She makes Chloe real, and people don’t realize how hard that is. Chloe is smart, kind, tough and gorgeous but she’s also an insecure dork.  She’s us and German just brings it.
DB Woodside I’ve loved since “Buffy”.  He is a phenomenal actor and who knew he could bring the laughs so well? His expressions were classic. Clueless angel indeed. Amenadiel could have been very one-dimensional but because of Woodside’s talent he became fully fleshed out and full bodied.
I have no doubt Lesley-Ann Brandt has a huge career in front of her.  She took a character that very well could have been hated, a demon and made her into one of the most human characters on the show. Kudos to her for taking a tough role and making it her own.
Kevin Alejandro is another actor I’ve loved for a long time.  He also took a character who if we’re going to be honest here did so many unlikeable things that he should have been truly despised but because of Kevin’s portrayal he was beloved. Great actor and a terrific director.
Rachael Harris IMO is the downlow MVP.  She was literally the rock and again, with a lesser actress the role could have been a throwaway. The normal human, the sounding board but Harris imbued her with so much more.  Her spit takes, sarcasm and her obvious compassion was what made Dr. Linda an unforgettable character. Once again just perfect casting.
Aimee Garcia was a great addition. She made Ella a fan fav and put so much heart, joy and sincerity into Ella never once did you doubt that she would prevail no matter what was thrown at her.  Garcia was just fantastic, and I want her skin care regime.
Scarlett Estevez pulled off the one thing I thought almost impossible.  She took the role of a young child and made it so I didn’t want to cringe. She portrayed Trixie so beautifully from day one that she was a true pleasure to watch.  Even though Trixie was super precocious Estevez never made her obnoxious. I loved Trixie and I have never said that about any child character in an adult show.  She was wonderful and has an amazing career in front of her.
That said, I’ve got some feelings now that I’ve seen the finale and have had some time to digest it all.  I love that Chloe and Lucifer had eternity and I agree that they had to be separated for Chloe’s lifetime. Didn’t like it but it’s the logical path. She’s human, he’s not. The ageing thing alone necessitated them not being together long term on earth and that’s just to start the list. They had to had to be apart for the short term to get their eternity but the duality of Lucifer's ending and Amenadiel's didn't sit right. Amenadiel as God got to have it all. His calling, his family etc. while Lucifer had to give up everything.  I also don’t buy the “If he came up from hell, he could never leave them again” defense.  I call bullshit.  Amenadiel managed, plus, missing out on the day to day is a huge sacrifice and by Lucifer missing out on the day-to-day Rory could still have had the hatred she needed to drive the story.  Popping in for birthdays, graduations, weddings, etc., the big stuff does not a father make.  Not being there for skinned knees, first heartbreaks, and all the little things a daughter needs her dad for can build up tons of resentment.  Boom, absentee father, just like his dad was. That provides all the millennial angel angst you could ask for. I have a daughter; it doesn’t take much.
The Trixie issue was huge for me. Can Chloe see her in Heaven? Will she be able to travel to Heaven and visit Trixie, Penelope, Dan, her father?  Chloe hesitated leaving Heaven in 5x16 because she couldn’t bear saying good-bye to her dad again. It seems as if Chloe sacrificed everything for Rory including Trixie. I want to preface this by saying. I liked Rory and loved the actress. I didn’t however like how it was as if she were their only child.  When Lucifer spoke of family Trixie was not mentioned. Their family day, the same thing. She didn’t need to be there, I get that the explanation regarding Rory would have been way too much to get into but just a mention of her, how awesome it would have been to share this day with her would have worked. It seemed as if Lucifer went from, “I would do anything to protect that little Urchin” to “Trixie who”. Trixie was a character that we watched grow up and she meant something to us. I hate to say this, but the writers did Trixie and the viewers dirty in this regard.
This show was built around a few premises.  Free will, honesty, redemption, sacrifice and family, both blood and made. The ending completely negated almost all of these.  Chloe and their entire family were made into the one thing Lucifer abhorred the most which are liars. Their daughter was brought up surrounded by lies. What did they tell Trixie?  The poor kid just lost her dad, and she was pissed at Lucifer when he went back to hell the first time. Did she grow up hating him because as far as she knew Lucifer left her mom again without saying good-bye and this time it was even worse because Chloe was pregnant.  I get that the actress who plays Trixie had limited availability but seriously. A quick good-bye.
“Hey Urchin, you won’t understand why for a long time, but I have to leave. You know I never lie so I can’t explain why but know that I love you and your mom and one day I hope you can forgive me.”
A 30 second scene would have worked.
As all the characters learned throughout the series, omission of the truth is just a form of lying and there are always repercussions i.e., Chloe and Father Kinley, Dan shooting Lucifer, Maze finding out about Lilith and even Ella not being told. As far as free will, both Chloe and Lucifer had their free will taken from them in the end. By Rory forcing them to abide by her wishes, their free will was forfeited. It was a huge manipulation on Rory’s part and considering how much Lucifer hated manipulations it just didn’t sit right.
Parents making huge sacrifices I get. Chloe and Lucifer sacrificed everything for their child. Unfortunately for me this sacrifice, the way it was written seemed contrived to pull out maximum and IMO unjustified angst. I love angst.  Hell, this is my favorite show.  I thrive on the angst. But as I wrote earlier, all the anger, angst and hatred towards Lucifer could have been achieved without having Lucifer completely out of the picture. I have two kids and my husband, and I have made huge life altering sacrifices for them as many parents do but being there for the day-to-day little things was what made the difference in their lives and cemented the close relationships we have with them.
“Yeah, dad you were great. Showing up for the fun stuff, always swooping in for the big finish to play the hero then ditching us when things got tough. When Grandma was dying where were you?  Nice that you showed up for the funeral but the six months leading up to it…we needed you and once again you weren’t there. When T got sick, when Jen broke my heart, blah, blah, blah…”
Even the whole Chloe dying scenario. They could have written it that rage Rory traveled minutes before Lucifer got there. Have him pop in right after Rory comes back. There were so many ways to achieve the end game they wanted other than the way they went. It seemed contrived and as if they took the easy way out to get where they needed to go. The Rory rage that was the catalyst for her traveling back in time and Lucifer finding his calling could still have been accomplished without the whole Lucifer disappearing storyline.
Now that I’ve finished my diatribe there’s a couple of additional things I would like to say.  Lucifer is and always will be one of my favorite shows of all time. There are not enough words to describe the comfort and enjoyment this show has brought me. Thank you, thank you, thank you to the producers, cast and crew. You truly created something special.
To the fandom. Please do not let a polarizing conclusion rip apart the fandom. The only other fandom I was a part of tore itself apart so badly that the FBI got involved.  Hence why I waited for 15 years to dip my toe in again. Everyone invested in this show has the right to their feelings.  Debate is fine, baiting and bullying are not. The Lucifer fandom like the show is very special. Without the fandom we wouldn’t have gotten any conclusion so don’t let opposing viewpoints tarnish what has been a magical journey.

11, 12, 13, 16, 19, 20 and 21
11. Do you have a character that you think was completely unnecessary to the show?
Detective Jules from PD, she gets killed off really early on into the series so I didn't get an emotional attachment to her and tbh whenever I go to rewatch season one I forget who she is every time. Don't know why they put her in the show if she was just going to leave right away.
12. What’s one thing/scene that you found completely unrealistic?
Anything with a character getting seriously injured and then going back to work a few weeks later. And for some of the injuries, going back to work at all. I'm sorry, but I'd have to imagine that the CFD wouldn't approve of someone with heart or spine problems working as a firefighter.
13. What’s a ship that you love but was never canon?
Rheese, they had some great interaction season one and I thought the writers were gonna do something with that but they didn't which was disappointing. Also, they hinted a bit at Matt Casey/Natalie Manning for a couple episodes and it thought that was a good pairing (though I am a brettsey and manstead shipper at heart).
16. Who’s your favourite of the OC kids (i.e. Owen Manning, Lexi Olinksy, Hermann Horde)?
We don't see a lot of the kids unfortunately, I think that showing the characters with their families definitely would've raised the shows up, but they only ever have the kids come in to guest star every once and a while, and the writers wrote a lot of them off which was also annoying. I'd have to say the Darden boys (when they were younger) in part because we saw them the most, but also because it was great to watch their relationship develop. The writers fudged with their ages though, cause they were 8 and 10 in season one iirc so they would've been 18 and 20 now, but I get that they did that so that Jesse could leave the show (I'm hoping it's only a haitus but I'm not holding my breath).
19. Who would you like to return to OC?
I haven't been watching any of the shows since the start of September (I got busy, a bunch of my fav characters all left at the same time, I can't stand the crappy writing right now), so idk who would fit well into the current dynamic, but the two characters who come to mind are Sarah Reese and Julie Tay.
20. Who do you want to never return to OC?
Sean Roman. Ugh. He's such an ass and I will forever be ticked off that he's who the writers decided to bring back for an episode.
21. Who do you think should be killed off/leave OC next?
Like for question 19, I haven't seen the recent episodes so I don't really know what's happening aside from the occasional tumblr post, but the two I've wanted off the show for a while are Daniel Charles (manipulative, child-abandoning asshole) and Hank Voight (dirty corrupt cop, is also an asshole).

Brooklyn Nine-Nine: Season 5 Retrospective
Finished season 5 rewatch a few days ago. Season 5 was an eventful year for the show, on and off the screen. Off screen the show got cancelled on Fox, had a huge public outcry over the cancellation which included several celebrities, and then got picked up by NBC all in 48 hours. It was an exhilarating time as a B99 fan. Lot of stuff happened on screen as well, Jake and Rosa were in prison, team got them out, Jake and Amy got engaged, Rosa came out as bisexual to the precinct and her parents, Holt was in the running to be NYPD Commissioner, Amy became a Sergeant, and then Jake and Amy got married. Eventful season to say the least. Its also my favorite season of the show.
Honestly, this season is about as close to perfection I felt with a season. In other seasons there are at least an episode or two which I felt were meh or problematic. Season 5 is near flawless. I think Return to Skyfire is the weakest of the episodes but its still pretty fun. There are several episodes of season 5 that all rank in the top 10 B99 episodes in my opinion. The show also takes some risks with a couple of experimental episodes. There are episodes with a lot of heart, there are episodes that absolutely hilarious, there are ensemble episodes, there are two hander episode. some excellent new guest stars, and many great recurring stars.
I think the two prison episodes are pretty interesting. Tim Meadows as Caleb is absolutely amazing. He is so likable and low key hilarious that the fact that he's a cannibal who eats children always feels like a dark surprise. He and Andy Samberg make for a fun duo. The first of the two episodes is particularly fun. The show doesn't hesitate to show the danger of Jake being in the prison, especially the situation he finds himself by the end of the premiere. The show does connect one story to the next pretty seamlessly with the end of the Melanie Hawkins story connecting the the Seamus Murphy story which then connected to the Holt commissioner story. There are also a couple of really good experiments in experiments and story with The Box and Show Me Going. The Box is B99 at its most confident. Apart from Gina very briefly at the beginning and Boyle very briefly at the end, the entire episode really hinges on only three characters. Jake, Holt, and Sterling K. Brown's Dr. Davidson. Its a brilliant showcase for all three actors and all three characters. I believe Brown got a Guest Actor Emmy nomination for his performance and he's brilliant as the smarmy Dentist who really is in control for majority of the episode. Braugher and Samberg were old pros with their dynamic at this point and this is fantastic Jake and Holt episode because you completely get why Jake wants so badly to prove that he's right in front of Holt why being cast as the screw up and the idiot in the interrogation frustrates him so much because we know how much Holt's approval means to him. We also see why Terry call Jake his best detective back in season 1 because of how he riles up Davidson to get the confession at the end and getting the approval of Holt that he wanted. Its an incredibly satisfying episode and one of the show's best imo. Then there is also 'Show me Going' which is a surprisingly tense episode in which nothing tense actually happens on screen. The episode does a great job working with the fact that the only knowledge the squad has is that Rosa is on the scene of an active shooter situation. Basically we are in the same situation as the characters. Since all the characters are on edge, so are we. The show does a nice job balancing humor and recognize the danger of the situation.
The season has probably my favorite B99 episode and definitely by fav B99 Halloween episode with HalloVeen. Whereas the last three Halloween episodes were predictable or spoiled from the promos, this one actually threw a genuine surprise. I knew Jake and Amy would get engaged some point in the season, but I expected it to be on the much hyped 99th episode. Instead it can much earlier with HallowVeen and its a delight from start to finish. Its great to rewatch the episode because you pick up little signs that Jake was a bit more desperate to win than usual. First when he says that planning for the heist is what got him through prison time, and then when he says to Boyle that he has to win this time and this heist is way too important. On first watch, these details just slip by as regular overzealous Jake but they have additional poignancy on repeat. The actual proposal moment is handled beautifully in a very peraltiago way where it is both funny and romantic, with Charles' reaction being the cherry on top. There are quite a few strong related episodes that follow. The Venue being a fun return with the Vulture, Two Turkeys being a TWW reunion with Smits and Whitford returning as Amy and Jake's fathers. Its a better Thanksgiving episode than the previous season Smits appearance. Bachelor/ette party is another glorious episode with wild, fun shenanigans with Reginald VelJohnson appearing as himself. Jake & Amy is a very typical wedding episode where everything goes wrong but its perfect in all the right ways. Its heartwarming and sweet. You get more examples of how Jake and Amy are perfect for each other with Jake knowing the inside and outs of how Amy stresses out, and then ending on a wonderful B99 wedding with Fred Armisen returning to make a cameo appearance as Mlep(clay)nos. The episode was designed to work as a series finale since the potential for cancellation was there and while it leaves the season on a cliffhanger about Holt's job, its the sort of cliffhanger that we could have interpreted positively if the show hadn't gotten picked up by NBC.
The 99th and 100th episode of the show were also memorable. The creators chose to acknowledge the 99th episode in a way that most shows acknowledge the 100th episode, in true 99 style. Its a full ensemble episode barring the absence of Chelsea who would return on the 100th episode. Its a typical road trip episode which kickstarts the Holt commissioner storyline. It also is the episode where Rosa comes out as Bi to Charles. This was obviously a big story for Stephanie since she is bi as well and she championed this story. It gets explored in further depth next episode, but Stephanie Beatriz gets to do some of her best work in these two episodes, showing her vulnerability without losing her toughness. Game Night honestly feels very true to not just coming out as Bi to your parents but true to any child who has to confess something that would be against their conservatives parents' values. I think Game Night is a fantastically bittersweet episode and Danny Trejo is brilliantly cast as Rosa's father. The episode positions him as the parent whose reaction Rosa is most worried about and I love how they show that while its difficult for him to grasp the concept bisexuality, he comes around to accepting it and accepting Rosa. But the episode is still bittersweet with Rosa's mom not having come to terms with it. Its also an excellent Rosa and Jake episode where we see Jake endure incredibly uncomfortable situations to help Rosa. Its a characteristic that helps make Jake so endearing that he's willing to cross all limits for his friends.
There are lots of fun and hilarious episodes in between. Craig Robinson shows up as Doug Judy in The Negotiations which is another fun ep. Kevin and Jake get a great episode dealing with their dynamic in Safe House. Rosa and Amy have some fun in White Whale as the Sleuth Sisters. Pimento returns in Gray Star Mutual for some more crazy shenanigans. Gray Star Mutual also has my favorite cold open of all time with Jake leading a suspect lineup in a rendition of 'I got it that way', totally forgetting the crime that he's got the lineup for. Its pitch perfect and I've lost count of how many times I've seen that cold open on youtube. It basically has its own fanbase and introduced so many people to B99. We also get to see Naseem Pedrad as Jake's sister Katie and the end up having a cute dynamic. David Fumero shows up in The Puzzle Master. There are also pretty funny episodes dealing with some serious subject matter such Jake dealing with his own doubts in his ability to do his job after Prison in Kicks and Holt dealing with gambling addiction in Bad Beat. All handled very sensitively.
All in all, this was a fantastic season for the show. I had a blast rewatching it and it ended the Fox era in spectacular note. A 9.5/10. Now on to season 6.

Your top 5 edser moments, please :)
Okay, ask me tomorrow and they might be different, in no particular order:
Tumblr media
Paparazzi - Episode 5 - This is probably my most rewatched episode, and I LOVE everything from the moment he catches her hand as she’s headed for the paps to them cruising into the sunset. First, superficially, they are both HOT AF in this scene. Hande is always one of the most beautiful women I’ve ever seen, but in this getup she outdid herself. No wonder Serkan got distracted earlier and told her how beautiful she was... twice. Also it’s nice that the show was able to use the fact that Kerem can bench press a car (probably) and show that off all Officer-and-a-Gentleman style. Nothing wrong with a man effortlessly whisking his lady off her feet. Now why does Serkan decide to carry her? Besides the fact that he’s extra af? Who knows? And who cares because it’s très romantique! (Actually I headcanon the path was going to end and he picked her up because she wouldn’t have been able to walk in the sand with those heels.)
Besides the hilariously over-the-top aesthetics, what I love about this scene is the heartfelt emotions that led to the sacrifices they each made for the other. She was going to throw herself to the wolves and ruin her own reputation to save his and he left the podium while accepting an award and skipped out on the big contract signing to save her. Both put the other first and it was lovely.
Tumblr media
Pool - Episode 4 - I talked about this scene recently, but I just love it so much I have to include it. There is just something so balls-to-the-wall about the way she casually hops in the pool in her gorgeous dress the second he warns her to stay away from it; and the way he, without thinking, just takes a flying leap to save her. The fact that he doesn’t even hesitate, even though it means he’s going to miss the flight/meeting, gives me butterflies.
Then once he’s “rescued” her, she just drops it that of course she can swim, why would she jump in the pool if she couldn’t swim!?!  And the way that neither of them notice that they have the full conversation with him still holding her in his arms. Yeah, they’re both right where they want to be. And the scene just gets funnier from there as they both try to cover when their guests arrive, delightful. The whole scene is funny, romantic, and satisfying.
Tumblr media
Drunk Serkan - Episode 19 -  Every second of Drunk!Serkan on screen was gold. GOLD. From the unrelentingly firm but polite way he kicked Selin the eFF out of his house, to his little "you knock on my door” joke, to the cheesy grin he gave her when he said her name, to the way he confessed that she was the most precious thing in the world to him, this scene had it all. A barrel of laughs, a dash of angst, and more than enough romance and sexual tension. Plus how often do you get to see your broken-up favs get all touchy feely in a shower together? A treasure of a sequence!
Tumblr media
Date NIght - Episode 12 - This entire scene was the pinnacle of happy Edser, and I love every bit of it. The inefficient way they tried to chop the vegetables for the salad together was sweet and endearing. While the way they confessed their feelings for each other was uniquely them. Our feelings are mutual, indeed. Then... then... he has to go and name a star after her? Such a thoughtful and heartfelt gift based on her name and the time they’d spend together stargazing, because back then he didn’t even know that her father had made a promise about stars. Gah!
They were just enthralled with each other the entire night. I’m not sure anyone knew what to expect of in-love Serkan, but he exceeded all my expectations and this scene was the height of the adooring, schmoopy, romantic robot. The entire scene is just sweetness overload, without ever becoming saccharine. Amazing.
Tumblr media
Sunset Declaration - Episode 11 - After 20+ hours of buildup, this had to be big and the show didn’t disappoint. First they had him chase down her taxi on the road like a madman, it was frantic and emotionally-charged, and was just so right for this larger-than-life pair. And how fortunate that the taxi stopped at this lovely ocean overlook right at sunset! The setting was top notch and I can’t imagine how the actors and crew probably had to wait around for the sun to be in the exact right spot. I loved that they argued, because that’s what they were doing when they fell in love, arguing! Everything from the “Gitme” to the “I’ve fallen madly in love with you” was perfect.
It’s also worth noting how satisfying it was that when he finally admitted his feelings he was all-in. The way he went from still being in denial earlier in the episode to “Wait two months and I’ll uproot my entire life and go to Italy with you” was head-spinning, but actually believable for the character. Serkan Bolat doesn’t do anything halfway, if he’s in, he’s all-in. I love that about him, and I love that Eda was ready and willing to take that ride with him.

Supernatural Paleyfest 2020
There was a pre-recorded Supernatural Paleyfest panel- “officially” it comes out tomorrow however citicard and Paleyfest members got early access to the panel and...they got uploaded online. Thank you @lotluz for letting me know!
I am going to be linking at the end of this post to the panel on Youtube, however I will give the disclaimer that Paleyfest is copyright striking these videos left and right so there’s no guarantee the video will still be up at the time that you are reading this but it will be officially up on the Yahoo! Entertainment site tomorrow, Friday @ 8/7c.
I don’t really have a lot to say about this panel, honestly, not the most interesting one I’ve ever seen, so let’s just get into it:
- I kinda hate that the host placed his screen right in the middle between Jensen and Jared’s 😂
- I absolutely love the fact that Jared and Jensen dressed up for this, you could tell they fixed up their hair, Jensen even had a jacket on, Jared seemed to be wearing a nice, black button up shirt- I have the feeling that they were all match-y match-y but we couldn’t see their upper halves properly to fully enjoy matching husbands. But they were the best dressed of the bunch, everybody went more casual except for Dabb who looked like he’d just rolled out of bed and also aged 50yrs.
- The panel, I would say, was less information regarding the show and more reminiscing about it. But there were still some interesting moments.
- Starting with the fact when they were asked about their final days of filming only j2 spoke about them, neither Misha nor Alex said anything about being there for the wrap up of the series. They did both talk about their characters final scenes later on in the panel, Alex’s is apparently something where he’s with the boys in the Impala or something along those line, Misha didn’t give a hint about what his final scene was but he did say that it’s a one of his fav moments and that he’s content with how his character’s arc was wrapped up. It just made me think of all the talk that’s been going around that episode 18 is Castiel’s last, I don’t wanna be optimistic but it does seem like that is the case….🤞
- Random but the host made a comment about wanting to see Alex guest star on Lucifer, that would be so cute I would love that!
- All the people on the screen are liars- well, maybe not the host he doesn’t know shit but there are four people on the panel that are liars and I’m including my beloved boys in that; Dabb and Singer once again said that at its core the final scripts weren’t massively changed, that the story was always going to end this way...I don’t believe a single word of it. And one of the biggest reasons I don’t believe it is Jared and Jensen’s attitude change towards the finale especially Jensen’s. Jared said in this panel that the finale is his favorite episode, Jensen has said, including in this panel, that there’s a moment in the finale that’s his favorite, they both have an excitement surrounding the final episode that was not there pre-covid shutdown. And, I also don’t believe for one fucking second that Jensen just came to realize that he was too close or whatever bs he’s trying to spin to explain why his feeling towards the ending have changed when we know damn well he wasn’t happy at first, he has had a complete 180 in tone regarding the series finale and it started after the show was forced to shut production. I think the ending was originally going to be wildly different and not focused on the brothers at all but covid changed all of that and they had to change things up and focus more on the brothers and because of those changes Jared and Jensen have changed their tone.  (Dabb himself said in another interview he would have liked to have other characters show up for the final 2 episodes but he couldn’t because of covid restrictions)
- Singer and Dabb were asked how they approached wrapping up the series and Singer cracks me up, this bitch really be trying to imply that they knew the ending was coming because it was like a community decision 😂 Sir, we all know Jared and Jensen are the ones who pulled the plug on this poor suffering animal and the rest of y’all just had to go along with it cause as much as some of you might hate it there’s no Supernatural without those two.
- They were asked their favorite moment of the show on-screen or off and Jared did his usual schtick of him meeting G and falling in love and blah, blah, blah, nothing new or original there it’s the same thing we’ve heard for years. He also said that meeting her takes precedent over other favorite moments he has of the show because if she watches the panel and finds out he’s in a hotel in Utah while she’s at home watching the kids and he doesn’t give her appropriate credit she’ll kill him….ever the romantic Jared, that sounds healthy.
Jensen’s reaction to Jared bringing up G was funny though cause when they were asked the question and Jared said he’d start Jensen just went “you got a default answer” he’s such a little bitch I love him 😂
- Jared, once again, compared finishing the show to running the marathon with Jensen ❤
- At the end they all had a chance to give a message to the fans and I just want to make it categorically clear: Dabb my support has never been for you. When I say I love Supernatural, when I say thank you for the show,  I am not including you or your shitty writing team or their shit ideas in the package. I am talking about Jared and Jensen/Sam and Dean. You can go fuck yourself with a metal lego that’s been left out on the sun all day.
And that was the Paleyfest panel! Sort of, this is more an opinion filled rough summary of a 51min panel. I will say this made me miss Paley 2018, we got so much good j2 content that night.
If you wish to watch the whole thing yourself you can do so here: Supernatural Paleyfest 2020
It will also be up for viewing tomorrow Friday on the Yahoo! Entertainment website.

Alright, so if you've been following along with me, Supernatural season 3 starts out on a trio of episodes that are Really Fun, slides into some episodes that are Pretty OK, then takes a real nose dive into Bummersville. Hoo boy guys, I really hope that this season picks up. I mean, it won’t, but I can still dream. 2021 was maybe not the year to start watching this season. Fair warning.
The next three episodes for this season are just, like, real downers. First we get “Fresh Blood,” which, aside from the terrible title, starts out on a high note. Gordon (gross) somehow manages to catch up with Bela (HOW??) and threatens her if she doesn’t hand over the Winchesters. Bela, in all of her class and grace, won’t give them up because she has a high price point and Gordon is really lowballing her here. Just like, yes, ok, please stay forever, you’re amazing and I love you. And what a scene this is! You have two characters, one with a strict moral code (albeit one that allows for violence and winning at all costs) and the other with almost NO moral code, but an allegiance that can be bought with the best price and it’s such a fun back and forth until Gordon pulls out a gun. And then she pulls out her phone and just has Dean on speed dial and that’s maybe my fav part. Bela has run into the Winchesters twice and they maybe legit hate her but she’s very much like, oh yeah, my BFF’s the Winchesters, I love those idiots!
Tumblr media
I love that we come back to this moment later in the episode when Bela, like, three days later, is like, Oh! I guess I should warn the Winchesters that some crazy guy is after them! She’s just so casual about it you kind of get the feeling that, even though technically Gordon was threatening her life, she doesn’t view him as A Threat. She gives the Winchesters a heads up just to be like oh yeah, you might want to watch out for this mild inconvenience, and she seems legit shocked when Dean freaks out. There’s this moment that plays across her face like, oh shit, did I...did I fuck up? And it adds a nice bit of depth to her character. She’s seems honestly worried, both for the lives of the Winchesters but also that Dean won’t like her anymore and that is just a charming bit of A C T I N G!
Tumblr media
I am gonna miss her SO MUCH when she dies at the end of this season. WHY did we CANCEL HER???
But despite the fun beginning, this episode is about monsters and how people become monsters and how other people are probably the reason. Because our main baddie is a vampire who hunts to...well, listen if we look at the facts that he lays out in his monologue, it’s a little more tragic - he’s trying to replace the daughters that he lost hundreds of years ago, cool motive, still murder. In practice though, he goes around turning hot blonde coeds into vampires and then ?????? Who knows. I’d like to believe that this was a problem with the CW executives or maybe casting/directing and not with the writing, but it’s SPN and you really can’t be sure with anything. The fact is, this is a CW show from the early 2000’s and a lot of their extras are cast to type. And that’s maybe me exhibiting some girl-on-girl crime, but there are other episodes that did a much less blatantly gross job casting their extras/Very Special Guest Stars.
Anyway, the POINT of this guy is that he’s a monster because someone killed his daughter and he’s just been trying to fill that grief hole inside of him for centuries. This is not unlike Gordon, who ALSO has been trying to fill a grief hole that he’s had for decades, except he’s not killing people and resurrecting them as blood suckers, he’s just killing them. And then, when the Vamp decides to turn Gordon it’s a real sweet moment of comeuppance for like, a HOT second and then you’re like, awww dude, ya done f’ed up. That was a bad idea. You’ve made a HUGE mistake.
More importantly, our Vampire In Question finally runs into the Winchesters and get’s to say things like “I was desperate! You ever felt desperate? I've lost everyone I ever loved. I'm staring down eternity alone. Can you think of a worse hell?” and also “I just ... I didn't care anymore. Do you know what it's like when you just don't give a damn? It's like ... it's like being dead already.” and Dean’s v. much like, THIS IS TOO REAL ROY.
Sam may ALSO be feeling Too Real feelings because he is DONE dicking around with Gordon and honestly yes, I like this, this is good Sam development. It’s nice to know that Sam has a breaking point. And I admit I’m of two minds about this moment because 1) I love the idea of Dark!Sam this season and that maybe Sam’s decision to actually kill Gordon is just one step in that process but 2) I ALSO love the idea of Sam Lite finally having a breaking point and Gordon is IT. I don’t know which theory I like more in this scenario, but they are both good theories.
I think as much as this episode wants to draw parallels between the monsters and Dean (thank you artful editors), you can’t look at the “I’ve lost everyone I ever loved,” line and not think of Sam? Cuz he’s got one (1) person left in his life that hasn’t died horribly, so how desperate is he about to get through the end of this season? I’ve definitely been watching this season with eyes on all the ominous Dean foreshadowing, but the Sam foreshadowing is also there, just buried under the heavy weight of a thousand smulders and suicidal levels of denial.
And also, FUCK the tag on this episode! Guys, it is CUTE but it is also HORRIBLE. Dean starts teaching Sam how to fix the Impala and at first it’s all, “Oh! Adorable Brothers Being Brothers!” and I loved it but then I almost immediately hated it because you realize this is about making sure Sam can get along without him once he’s gone and Dean just accepts his own death with such casual ease that it’s just...INFURIATING!
Tumblr media
This scene was rude and I HATE IT!
Cut to - “A Very Supernatural Christmas” Special!
Tumblr media
Guys, I was so excited when I got to this episode. THIS is Classic Supernatural Shenanigans. Plus, you know a Holiday Special is the ultimate sign that this show has Made It, right? Or it could be a sign that they’re selling out, who knows, but I think we can say that at this point in the series, SPN is established enough to start having fun with their fans. That’s what this says to me. BUT THEN what we get is like...oh boy.
First - like, I’mma beat this horse to death, but what is WRONG with this FAMILY? John Winchester very quickly devolved into the sort of father that forgot about every single holiday and did not ever, even a little bit, make up for it. It’s not a surprise, but it kind of wrecked me seeing a flashback where Baby Dean is just so attached to a father who can’t be bothered to actually care for his children. I know he’s not in this episode because Jeffrey Dean Morgan was tied up in other projects, but the fact that John doesn’t show up at the end to button the flashbacks with a But then he DID show up for Christmas! just makes this plot line that more gutting. And despite Dean’s hero worship of their father, this is maybe the Christmas where Baby Sam stops believing in his own father. The only bright side to this is that it continues to enforce the fact that Bobby should have sued John for custody. Bobby should maybe STILL Sue for custody so that Dean at least would feel like someone wants him for once in his life, damnit.
And then we wrap this episode up with the Best Worst Christmas of all, because we see Sam start to...also?? accept that Dean is about to die? Cuz that’s what this episode is really about - Dean’s Last Christmas. And everything about that makes me ~ u p s e t ~.
So Sam decides to put his curmudgeonly grinchy attitude aside in order to make it a special day for Dean and ugh. UGH. UGHGHGHG. Season three is the worst guys, and I can’t believe I didn’t realize that until right this second now.
So let’s wrap this up with "Malleus Maleficarum", honestly an episode that is mostly forgettable until we get to, like, the last five minutes. Sure, witches and curses and selling your soul, woohoo whatever.
But then we get some real Ruby centric reveals and like, WHAT is happening?? First off, the scene where Ruby and Tammy have a moment is a real Moment. There is some baggage and tension here and it is heavy. And then Tammy drops the mic when she reveals that Ruby used to be human.
THEN, Ruby legit saves their asses by killing Tammy with a fancy magic knife. Ok, Dean does the actual killing, but Ruby brought the fancy magic knife. So between the hot and heavy tension with “Tammy” and her repeated attempts to keep the Winchesters alive, we’re left wondering what IS Ruby’s deal? I personally wonder how much of the show’s mythology the show actually has figured out at this point? Because interviews with Kripke definitely walk the line between “Oh we definitely have this whole thing worked out,” and “yeah, we’re sort of finding things as we go along,” which is maybe why it’s able to last as long as it does. More on that later.
Of course the big kicker is the final scene between Ruby and Dean. Dean is almost on board with Ruby at this point in the season, and much like his scene with the demon in “Sin City”, they share a kind of vulnerable moment together where Ruby admits that, yeah, she was human once and yeah, Hell will destroy you, body and soul, and yeah Dean’s worst fear will probably come true - he will become the thing he hunts, no ifs, ands or buts about it. And Dean knows that Ruby knows that Dean knows that there’s no way to save Dean from his fate, but they both agree that they can’t take Sam’s last ounce of hope away from him because, for both of them, Sam is their hope. Ruby and Dean both see the war happening around them and they know that with Dean gone, Sam’s maybe the last guy holding back the tide to save all humanity.
Which, honestly? Bull shit. Do you know how many hunters are out there? Neither do I, but this season seems to indicate that there are a LOT. We have barely scratched the surface on the hunter community and it’s a damn shame that they are all weirdo loners because there is a war going on. You know what works great in a war? An ARMY. Buncha mentally unstable, martyr-complex ijits who can’t put their differences aside for one damn MINUTE so that maybe, JUST maybe, the could actually defeat the evil they’ve spent their entire lives dedicated to fighting. And if Ruby and Dean wanted to help Sam, what they should probably do is get him plugged in to that community. I do believe that of all they backasswards, self-obsessed, painfully anti-social crazies out there, the Winchesters are THE WORST.
Tumblr media
Listen tho, this was like, a solid scene between these two. Just a lot of work goin' into this and it paid off.
Anyway, back to the mythology for a hot second - This sort of loosey-goosey stumbling into your own world building is probably another one of those things that you’ll only really get in a show with this many episodes per season? It’s that room to play and experiment and just make stuff up as you go along. I think the slow drip method of releasing episodes ALSO helps in this scenario because you’re able to see what fans are reacting to in almost-real time. When viewers are binging episodes, I think you're less likely to see what specifically they’re reacting to and more wholistically they’re reacting to. And that’s not to say you won’t see those specific things that they like/love eventually, but by the time you get there, your season’s been produced in its entirety and you’ll have to bear that in mind for (hopefully) next season. But with SPN, they were writing and producing the show at the same time that some of the episodes were airing. That’s why they were able to make decisions on the fly, based on what fans responded to. And definitely by this point in the show, there was a sizeable and vocal fan base that made their feelings VERY well-known. We’re only in season three, but they’ve already had a number of con appearances and a pretty active online presence. That kind of feedback has got to be helpful, from a writing perspective, but it also allows for things like characters getting cut because nobody liked them for some dumb reason. BUT, if you’re fighting to stay on the air for 100 episodes or longer, responding to fan reactions is what’s gonna do it and that’s a fact.

Long post because why not?
This will probably be my last post about the show ever but I feel the need to explain my feelings about Clarke right now. After Wells (he will always be my fav even if he was only in like five 5! He deserved better and I will be forever bitter about it), Octavia, Bellamy and Clarke, and their relationships with each other, have always been what I loved the most about the show.
While I prefer Octavia and Bell’s journey through out the seasons, Clarke was always the character I connected the most with. Since season 1 she was the one to get things done. She didn’t want to be a leader but she became one because everyone else needed her to in order to survive. She fought, she killed, she betrayed, she did everything she could to keep her people safe. And that’s why I was always on her side, even when she made mistakes that hurt the people she loved. I get why she left in season 2, I get why she did what she did in the first part of season 3... Hell, I was completely on her side when she left Bellamy in season 5, because I knew what she went through. Because Bellamy put her daughter in an immediate danger and she had to save her, because after 6 years apart everything changed and she didn’t know if she could trust him anymore. But then season 6 happened, and Clarke saw what Bellamy Blake would do to save her. She came back to life because he refused to gave up on her.
Now on season 7. I honestly felt disconnected to all my favs this season since the beginning but I blamed the storylines for that (O. had a great sl in the first eps but then she kinda disappear in the ocean of guest stars and new characters). The show has stated over and over that Clarke would do anything to not lose someone she loved ever again, that Bellamy was Clarke’s bf, the most important person in her life after Madi (since her parents are both dead). That’s not my interpretation, that’s canon. So imagine my surprise when in ep 12 she didn’t even attempt to ask Bellamy what happened to him, to understand what he went through. That’s not only on her but on every character. It was clear he went through something very traumatic, but I guess that didn’t really mattered to the writers since they wanted to kill Bellamy’s character. Even then I tried to understand her, she felt betrayed and all that staff. But then in the last scene of ep 13, they made her murder someone she loved in cold blood. Bellamy wasn’t a threat in that moment, he wasn’t about to fight her. She could have shot him in the shoulder, the leg, the hand. And no, she wasn’t trying to protect Madi, because she wasn’t in danger. They had outnumbered the disciples, they hold Cadogan hostage, they could have just destroy the stone and be done with it. Hell she could have grabbed the sketchbook. She could have killed all the other disciples in the room, shot Bellamy in the shoulder, grab the book and burn it. But She decided to kill without blinking someone she claimed to love. It would have been the same if she shot Octavia, Murphy or Raven. Yes, she killed before, as a last resort to save the people to loved. Hell, I would have been completely aboard if they did something similar to what they did with Finn (I’m sucker for tragic sometimes). But this was just useless and brutal. When she killed her bf for nothing she lost her humanity for me. She is not better than her enemy. But I guess that was the point. I have to say that jrot succeeded in something only the writers of Being Human (UK) achieved before... make me wish for my fav character to not having a happy ending. And that’s really really sad.

My Top 10 K-Dramas of 2019 - What’s Yours?
Tumblr media
2019 is ending soon and K-Dramaland has once again brought us so many goodies this year. As per our blog’s tradition [For 2018 faves click here], below are my Top 10 favs of the year (my faves in alphabetical order so it might not be yours so please don’t judge). (For our blog’s 2019 music ratings, click here!)
My only specific criteria usually is that the show must have had started in 2019 to be considered a 2019 series but this year I have made an exception for dramas that started very late in 2018 and it required watching well into 2019 for to be sure it was a great drama.
Without further ado, check the list below!
Doctor Prisoner (KBS2)
Tumblr media
If you are looking for a thriller with insanely good acting, I would highly recommend Doctor Prisoner. Set in a prison clinic with Namkoong Min’s disgraced doctor as the lead plotting to right the wrongs society has done to him, the drama blurs the lines between good and bad. The medical director of the prison played by Kim Byungcheol seems like the perfect evil archetype for the audience to hate on but over time the plot and the acting allow us to soften up to his character and worry about his well-being. The drama also thrived in the current political climate in South Korea with its nuanced look into corruption and class issues. It was also a delight to see Namkoong Min’s rise in the past years from a rom-com lead to a seasoned leading man able to take on many diverse roles. If you love a drama that discusses the conflict between humanity and greed with stellar acting, you would love Doctor Prisoner!
Extraordinary You (MBC)
Tumblr media
I actually struggled with whether to put Extraordinary You in the Top 10 due to the poor writing in the last few episodes of the show but caved in due to the spectacular quality of the earlier episodes and the consistently amazing acting of the main cast. Based on the popular webtoon “July Found By Chance”, the drama is about a girl called Eun Danoh who discovers she is in a shojo manga and not even the female lead - just an extra there to drive the love line between the male and female lead and stuck with a one-sided love to the biggest f*ckboi in school. Danoh decides to fight against fate (the writer’s plot) and try to change the storyline with her friends who start to also gain consciousness as well as the male lead Haru, a nameless background character who seems to have a mysterious connection to Danoh and an ability to switch characters in and out of scenes. The first half of the drama is pure K-Drama gold and consistently makes self-aware jabs at K-Drama tropes. Also, the quality acting of Kim Hyeyoon really breathed life into the character of Danoh, whose many monologues during her self-aware moments would fall flat without good delivery. While playing Haru was SF9’s Rowoon’s first major lead role, he carried the part well and was able to show the changes in Haru as he went from brainless NPC to an increasingly aware player in the plot to take down the comic book writer. Lee Jaewook, April’s Naeun, Jung Gunjoo, Kim Youngdae and Lee Taeri also all excelled in their respective roles. If you would like a drama where you can discover lots of young talent, Extraordinary You is the drama for you!
He is Psychometric (tvN)
Tumblr media
While using the common K-Drama trope of male lead has a peculiar and uncommon superpower, and teams up with a female lead with secrets and some investigators to solve crimes, He is a Pyschometric excels in how it used these tropes well. I mean it is a tvN production and they own the supernatural mystery/romance genre these days. The male lead has the power to know about people’s past by touching their skin so of course we know plenty of skinship shenanigans and questions about human nature and trauma would be explored in this drama. After providing backstory and building up the personality of the main characters in the first few episodes, the series was consistently intense and the chemistry of the characters is great. GOT7’s Jinyoung has proven that he is ready for lead roles in more dramas, while Shin Yeeun showed that she is ready to take on the television screen after her quick rise to fame as a web drama actress in the record-breaking web series “A-TEEN”. SISTAR’s Dasom has also continued to grow as an actress, as seen in her role as police investigator in this series. If you are a fan of supernatural and mystery based K-Dramas, He is Psychometric is definitely one of the best dramas this year for you!
Hotel del Luna (tvN)
Tumblr media
Another fantasy series coming from tvN, Hotel del Luna was definitely one of the most talked-about dramas of the year and rightly so. Set in a hotel that caters to ghosts, e.g. the dead with grievances and unable to “move on” to the world of the dead, you know you are in for episodic adventures involving the lives of many guests. We are also provided with the interesting relationship between IU’s Jang Manwol (her name literally means full moon) who is the ghost hotel owner for over 1000 years as a punishment for her sins and Yeo Jingoo’s Koo Chansung (his name literally means bright star) that the deities believe is the key to Manwol’s emancipation from ghost hotel running duties. In a way, it is like a gender-swapped version of the Goblin relationship going on but due to additional plotlines and character relationships, it is honestly a lot more and I will leave it to you guys to find out when you watch the show yourself. If you enjoy a fantasy drama involving ancient supernatural beings, Korean folklore and diverse stories, you would enjoy Hotel del Luna!
Kingdom (Netflix)
Tumblr media
Netflix Korea continues to churn out amazing dramas and Kingdom is definitely one of the best this year. Adapted from the Korean webtoon series “The Kingdom of Gods”, the drama is set in Joseon Korean (in the 16th century) where a crown prince already dealing with court intrigues and trying to make it out alive is thrown another deadly problem - zombies. Given the stellar performance of Netflix’s earlier Korean period drama Mr. Sunshine and the amazing global box-office results of Korean zombie movie Train to Busan, this concept itself already sounds like a perfect cocktail for success. And the drama was received very positively, with a second season renewed for 2020. Besides the ridiculously addictive plot, the acting is also superb. The crown prince is played by none other than Ju Jihoon, who has long been popular in South Korea and among K-Drama fans for his dark and brooding demeanour perfect for an apocalyptic series. Bae Doona, who has found great success in Korea and in Hollywood for her roles in K-Dramas and movies such as Cloud Atlas and Netflix series Sense8, expertly takes the female lead role of the physician uncovering the zombie epidemic. If you love period dramas, zombie movies or both, this is the drama for you!
Sky Castle (JTBC)
Tumblr media
Widely lauded as the best K-Drama of the year, Sky Castle is arguably one of the best K-Dramas of this decade because of the amazing acting, the unpredictable plot and its inclusion of many societal issues in South Korea. The show set the record for the most-viewed cable drama in South Korean history. Set in the opulent neighbourhood called Sky Castle, the story revolves around the “real” housewives of the neighbourhood who are all trying to get their kids into the top three universities in South Korea (SNU, Korea U and Yonsei - often also abbreviated as SKY universities). This concept of looking at the competitive education environment of East Asian countries is not new but the series set itself apart but including a mystery element, where deaths, secrets and intrigue involving members of the neighbourhood also shed light to class issues spanning across generations, gender issues, work culture, as well as familial relations in the conservative Korean society. The show also employed an extremely talented but underrated cast of actors who either spent many years honing their craft as side characters of many shows or are star film school students. The show also gave many opportunities to the cast afterwards, as seen in Kim Byungcheol’s lead role opportunity in Prison Doctor and Kim Hyeyoon’s lead role in Extraordinary You that are both discussed above. If you love a socially aware drama full of intrigue and mystery with great acting and cinematography, you would love Sky Castle!
The Fiery Priest (SBS)
Tumblr media
The highest-rated miniseries of 2019, The Fiery Priest is really a unique show unlike any other. The story follows an investigation into the death of an elderly priest, with the Scooby-Doo crew made up of a young priest, a detective, and a prosecutor. While the crime-solving trio dynamic in the synopsis would definitely give “The Guest” flashbacks, this drama is completely opposite to OCN’s 2018 gritty horror extravaganza and is instead heartfelt and utterly hilarious. The priest clearly has anger management issues, the detective sucks at his job and the prosecutor has questionable moral standards. And Kim Namgil, Kim Sungkyun and Honey Lee all played these roles ridiculously well. Like other great dramas this year, The Fiery Priest looks at social issues in South Korea but instead of extremely serious commentary, touches of them in a humorous and sarcastic manner. This allowed the show to get away with more than you would expect on Korean non-cable TV. One thing the show did do which was similar to the much more serious “The Guest” was not having a romance plotline shoved down our throats like many K-Dramas. If you love a good comedy-mystery drama, you should check out The Fiery Priest!
The Tale of Nokdu (KBS2)
Tumblr media
Another drama based on a webtoon, The Tale of Nokdu received average national ratings but was massively successful among the Gen Z of Korea and overseas fans. The reason may be the premise of the series. We have seen a good amount of girl masquerades as guy romcoms in the late 2000s and early 2010s such as the legendary dramas “Coffee Prince”, “You Are Beautiful”, “Sungkyunkwan Scandal” and “To The Beautiful You” but HAVE WE SEEN A REVERSED VERSION? Well look no further as The Tale of Nokdu is exactly that. Set in the Joseon Dynasty, the male lead has to hunt down a female assassin who has taken refuge in a women-only widow’s village and he must pretend to be a woman to live in the village to catch the assassin. Jang Dongyoon and Kim Sohyun delivered quality acting but probably what really made the show so popular with the Gen Z audience is seeing the male lead coming to realise the struggles of women in ancient times, with some struggles still existing today, as he lived in the widow’s village and the fierce and strong personality of the female lead who keeps saving the male lead’s ass. While there are some expected period drama tropes with royal court politics and will-they-won’t-they in face of the greater good, The Tale of Nokdu is one of the standout dramas this year for its fresh take on the cross-dressing K-Drama trope. If you have enjoyed previous cross-dressing K-Dramas, you should give The Tale of Nokdu a try!
Vagabond (Netflix/SBS)
Tumblr media
Lee Seunggi and Suzy reunites in Vagabond for the first time since Gu Family Book in 2013 and this was definitely a great reunion. With a backdrop involving government corruption and terrorist attacks, Lee Seunggi dons the role of a retired stuntman turned vagabond to avenge the death of his nephew and uncover the truth. Suzy joins Lee Seunggi as a rookie special agent who gets pulled into the investigations after being in the wrong place during the wrong time (or the right place in the right time depending on how you view the investigations). This action-packed series was filmed across many countries such as Portugal and Morocco and would give you a huge adrenaline rush as the main cast faces new obstacles and betrayals in every episode. The current ending of the series suggests a possible Season 2. If you are a fan of spy and action-type thrillers like City Hunter and IRIS, you would love Vagabond!
When the Camellia Blooms (KBS2)
Tumblr media
The highest-rated mini-series this year after The Fiery Priest, When the Camellia Blooms is a slightly more light-hearted slice of life series set in the fictional matriarchal town of Ongsan. The series stars Gong Hyojin as a single mother who moves to the town to raise his son and run a bar called “Camellia”. The story revolves around Kang Haneul’s small town cop (and lowkey village idiot with a heart of gold) who has a crush on Gong Hyojin and her baseball star ex-boyfriend and the boy’s father played by Kim Jiseok trying to win her back. What makes this series so well-loved is that besides the love triangle shenanigans set in the small-town community, the endless line of useless pushover men, and the community drama between store owners and neighbours, there is also a mystery involving a serial killer who holds a grudge against the female lead. But ultimately it is a quirky drama where the slice-of-life really dominates over the mystery aspect of the series and we learn a lot about the characters and their backstories as the series progresses. If you like a more slow-paced, slice-of-life series, When the Camellia Blooms is the series for you!
Honourable Mentions:
Dazzling/The Light In Your Eyes (JTBC): The story about a young woman who suddenly became 70 years old but with the ability to manipulate time. The series received critical acclaim for its portrayals of the struggles of everyday folk in South Korea and for its surprising twists.
Tumblr media
The Secret Life of My Secretary (SBS): The male lead is a childish company director who lost the ability to recognise faces and must enlist the help of his secretary to maintain the pretence of normalcy. Rainbow’s Jaekyung was a complete scene-stealer for her role as the over-the-top CEO Veronica Park.
Tumblr media
The Last Empress (SBS): Set in the alternate reality where South Korea is a constitutional monarchy, this is a melodrama involving a bodyguard who wants to seek revenge on the King’s mistress and a Queen who discovers her fairy tale marriage was just a PR ploy by the royal family. Basically, peak quality makjang.

IN DEPTH FANDOM QUESTIONS
oof you really went for it, huh! haha
Top 5 favourite characters: Simon, Magnus, Clary, Maia, Jace
Other characters you like: Izzy, Sebastian, Raphael, Meliorn, Luke
Least favourite characters: Valentine, Maryse, Alec
Otps: Simon/Jace, Clary/Izzy, Clary/Maia, Izzy/Maia, Raphael/Izzy/Simon, Raphael/Simon, Jace/Maia, Jace/Simon/Maia, Magnus/Ragnor (that’s book influenced though, haha), Clary/Simon
Notps: Magnus/Alec (i said what i said), Jace/Clary, Camille/Simon, Victor/Izzy, Simon/Faerie Queen
Favourite friendships: lightwood siblings (that includes jace), clary/izzy, clary/simon
Favourite family: Lightwood Siblings, but the Garrowfray+Simon family was done dirty and could have been so much more
Favourite episodes: Don’t know what this really says about me, but the one where Valentine is torturing Jace on the boat, because it really points out the trauma he grew up with and doesn’t disclose (which the show did horrible of showing the aftermath of btw ugh), and then obviously the episode where Jace sacrifices himself to save Simon and lets him drink his blood a little too much........ I haven’t watched most of s3/4 so I haven’t seen the later Jimon scenes but I’m sure those too
Favourite season/book/movie: lol, none of the show is a fav, necessarily, but i do like some of s2. my fav book is the City of Lost Souls
Favourite quotes: Can’t think of specific ones, but pretty much anything Simon says
Best musical moment: Simon singing Fragile World. I downloaded it and listen to it still
Moment that made you fangirl/boy the hardest: jimon blood feeding
When it really disappointed you: i was mad about them not exploring jace’s trauma after the boat. i was upset they didn’t let the malec breakup last longer for alec to grow as a person before they got back together. just so much. so so much.
Saddest moment: Um, I don’t know about sad but the most poignant was when Simon was talking about his Bubbie having been through the holocaust and that was why he wasn’t about to do the shadowhunter bullshit tracker thing
Most well done character death: they did Jace’s okay. I think Simon’s was good too.
Favourite guest star: Lydia the Lesbian
Favourite cast member: Alberto 100%, although Kat is a sweetheart too. And Isaiah is hilarious.
Character you wish was still alive: Um, Jocelyn, I think. She deserved the Maryse “redemption” storyline more than anyone else after the abuse and manipulation she went through as Valentine’s wife imo
One thing you hope really happens: well the show has ended, but I guess I hope Clary/Jace break up just to break up Izzy/Simon and switch respective partners.
Most shocking twist: There wasn’t one, really, after reading the books. I guess the most shocking thing was the show actually incorporated Simon’s Judaism in a serious and respectful way? And that they let Maia talk about police harassment as a black girl vs shadowhunter harassment as a werewolf
When did you start watching/reading?: Um, reading the books would be circa 2012 I think? The show I watched when it first aired
Best animal/creature: any downworlder
Favourite location: Magnus’ flat
Trope you wish they would stop using: redemption storylines
One thing this show/book/film does better than others: showing Simon’s Judaism as a part of his life
Funniest moments: most things Simon or Magnus related
Couple you would like to see: see all above non canon otps
Actor/Actress you want to join the cast: n/a
Favourite outfit: the little black dress Izzy puts on Clary because gayyy
Favourite item: Stele
Do you own anything related to this show/book/film?: nope
What house/team/group/friendship group/family/race etc would you be in?: in this world, weirdly enough, I think vamp
Most boring plotline: haahahahahahahahaha
Most laughably bad moment: Valentine’s “lair” being in Chernobyl for absolutely no reason
Best flashback/flashfoward if any: i don’t remember most of them, but I guess the lightwood siblings ones? or valentine’s? god it’s been too long. also this doesn’t count really but the alternate universe where Jimon are friends and Alec has a personality
Most layered character: if they had actually explored his psyche, Magnus
Most one dimensional character: Alec
Scariest moment: I had read the books, so really nothing?
Grossest moment: Sebastian going in to kiss Clary. Incest isn’t a good look...
Best looking male: Isaiah, but Alberto is up there. Dom.
Best looking female: all of them
Who you’re crushing on (if any): Alberto and Kat. I miss Kat’s red hair too much
Favourite cast moment: all the stupid cute domberto videos
Favourite transportation: portals
Most beautiful scene (scenery/shot wise): Alicante
Unanswered question/continuity issue/plot error that bugs you: no one has time for that list
Best promo: n/a
At what point did you fall in love with this show/book: the show? the minute I saw Simon’s smile and him changing his shirt. Also the part where Clary and Izzy are actually friends but also check each other out up and down while changing clothes.

The Legacy of Kay Francis by Susan King
Tumblr media
Long before Bette Davis was the grand dame at Warner Bros., Kay Francis was the queen of the studio lot and the highest paid actress working in film. According to the New York Times obituary on Francis in 1968, it stated that Francis was earning $227,800 a year, while Harvey S. Firestone, chairman of the Firestone Tire and Rubber Co. received a mere $85,000. There were many reasons why Francis was such a success. She was stunningly beautiful with dark hair and mercurial dark eyes. Francis wore the most fabulous clothes in her films, and no one could suffer with such aplomb as she did. Audiences didn’t seem to mind her slight speech impediment pronouncing R’s as W’s. This speech impediment lead to the nickname “Wavishing Kay Fwancis.” The New York Times obit implied that she also acted every bit the star, noting that the actress always wanted to “make it to the top” and was often temperamental. “Miss Francis, who could at times blaze up in ager, was not always at pains to be polite to reporters and film crew members. In 1934, it was reported that she ‘flew at a news photographer who snapped her picture’ at the Newark Airport.”
Tumblr media
Perhaps there was a reason why she was press shy. Married five times, Francis was a bit of a wild child. She had several affairs, abortions and according to the TCM.com overview on the actress “reportedly had a high tolerance for alcohol. Her times away from the set were, by all accounts, anything but dull.” Frankly, I’ve been conflicted about Francis, who was just a faded memory to most when she died at 63, some 23 years after her final film. It is only with home video and most especially TCM that her films have been reintroduced to cinephiles. I do love to wallow in a good melodrama, but there were too many heavy-hang-the-heart histrionics in several of her films. You may remember what she wore but would be hard-pressed to remember the plot of her films. Case in point, 1933’s I LOVED A WOMAN. Edward G. Robinson plays a successful meat packer and Francis his opera-singing mistress. Leonard Maltin gave the film zero stars.
Tumblr media
All of this being said, Francis could be wonderful as in Ernst Lubitsch’s flawless 1932 pre-Code romantic comedy TROUBLE IN PARADISE. My other two fav Francis pre-Code films she made in 1932 were with her frequent leading man William Powell: ONE WAY PASSAGE and JEWEL ROBBERY. An Oscar-winner for best story, ONE WAY PASSAGE may be as corny as Kansas in August but this shipboard romance, marking the sixth pairing of Powell and Francis, works beautifully thanks to the chemistry between the two stars. Powell plays Dan, a condemned man who is returning home to be executed and Francis plays Kay, a woman who only has a short amount of time before she dies. It all works and the ending is, well, magical. JEWEL ROBBERY is pretty magical as well. Directed by the great William Dieterle, the comedy finds Powell as a suave jewel thief and Francis as one of his victims. Of course, they fall in love. The underrated film is an absolute blast and even features a hysterically funny scene involving marijuana.
Tumblr media
Among the other highlights of her films is the blockbuster I FOUND STELLA PARISH (‘35), the delicious Michael Curtiz drama MANDALAY (‘34) and SECRETS OF AN ACTRESS (‘38), one of her final films at Warner Bros. Francis grew dissatisfied with her roles and had a falling out with the studio. She was let go in 1938 after she was named "Box Office Poison” along with the likes of Katharine Hepburn and Mae West by the Independent Theater Owners. No studio wanted to sign her to a contact, so, she found herself in supporting roles in such films as IN NAME ONLY (‘39) and THE FEMININE TOUCH (‘41). Francis also was the female lead in Jack Benny’s 1941 hit CHARLEY’S AUNT. During World War II, she toured the European and North African war zones with Carole Landis, Martha Raye and Mitzi Mayfair. All four played themselves in the 1944 film FOUR JILLS IN A JEEP, based on Landis’ book. Despite the success of the film, no offers came from the major studios. She then signed a three-picture deal with threadbare budget at Monogram Pictures to star in and produce three films. One of those films, DIVORCE (‘45), is getting a rare airing on TCM.
Tumblr media
Francis appeared in such plays as State of the Union and made headlines in 1948 while she was on tour in Columbus, Ohio, where she was hospitalized for an alleged sleeping pill overdose, as well as severe burns on her legs from the radiator in her hotel room. She did two TV guest shots in the early 1950s but stayed out of the public eye. When Francis died of cancer at the age of 63 in New York, she left her million-dollar estate to the Seeing Eye, an organization which trains dogs for the blind. I find the last line of the New York Times obit to be incredibly sad: “Miss Francis had lived a rather secluded life here lately and expressed some bitterness at how her Hollywood fortunes had risen so high and sunk so low.”

I HAD EXTREMELY HIGH EXPECTATIONS AND IT STILL MANAGED TO SURPASS THEM
==
Tumblr media
OH MY GOD THEY WERE ROOMMATES
==
i thought it was known that they’d buried an empty coffin?? i mean, the house did fucking explode, i was expecting the narrative to be ‘there was nothing left to bury’
==

==
lois and clark investigating a murder together as a first date
==
lois lane please kick my ass
==
Tumblr media
oh no
==
the opening kinda spoils chloe’s return and jensen ackles’ role on this season, i see why less and less tv shows are doing it nowadays
==
WE’RE ONE EPISODE IN, THEY’RE IN THE BATHROOM WHILE CLARK IS NAKED AND LOIS IS WEARING ONLY WHAT SEEMS TO BE HIS SHIRT AND, MOST IMPORTANTLY
Tumblr media
SHE CALLED HIM SMALLVILLE
==
THEIR DIALOGUE IS THE BEST THING EVER, I’M IN HEAVEN
==
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i’ve seen gifs of this before and i don’t know if the actual context is worse or better than what i’d thought
==

==
smallville out of context
Tumblr media
==
can my mother please use earphones at least while watching videos in support of that fascist ass president she helped elect, it’s kinda ruining the mood for me here :)
==

THANK YOU
==
THAT’S CLAUDIA FROM DYNASTY
==
listen i’m definitely pro-plastic surgery, considering i’m currently recovering from a nosejob, but lois is right, having stuff done while too young is a recipe for disaster. i had to wait until 18 to get my breast reduction done and until 21 for the aforementioned nosejob. just a psa
==
i hope she eats him alive like amy adams
==
Tumblr media
they’re actually the meteor capital now!
==
oh man those stick hair things that were all the rage in the 2000s
Tumblr media
==
Tumblr media

this episode is funny bc i’m pretty sure erica durance had a nosejob
Tumblr media
(one that she didn’t need, considering i’m praying my nose looks something like hers ‘before’ one once the swelling goes down)

==
HER DEADPAN ‘BITCH’
I LOVE HER SO MUCH
==
man i need me a relationship like that
==
i love lois and chloe
==
oh i've always thought this scene was from lois’ first episode??? idk why
==
Tumblr media
YES THEY ARE
and i’m ignoring the rest of the song and the context :)
==
listen i did not endure all that lana/clark/chloe love triangle bullshit in season 2 for them to pull this shit again with lois, especially when chloe was supposed to be over him already
(i know it’s harder because she’s her cousin but come onnn)
when is she getting another love interest??? smallville wiki says oliver only gets here on season 6
==
Tumblr media
this girl looks like she’s crying and it distracts me every time i rewatch the scene
