what if selkie whump
ok ok. I KNOW this is very niche. I know. but hear me out. ignoring the obvious forced marriage whump that usually goes along w selkies (yes I know it’s tradition but I don’t feel like getting into those implications rn) — using the pelts for blackmail and/or torture. can they feel what’s done to their pelts? do the injuries transfer, or only the sensation? how far away from their pelt can a selkie go before it starts to hurt? how far can they go before they start to break?
why don’t we find out?

In addition to the selkie anon i would like to add that Selkies get sick if they spend much time without being in their seal form so It right be the oportunity for some ✨Whumped Sahota✨ (Plus the impacto in his appearance because, aparte from looking exhausted and sickly his hair would start to turn White)
Tumblr media
this ask just made me want to doodle a magically -starved selkie Sahota 😭

do you have any prompt ideas for a selkie whumpee?
held captive in a tiny water filled tank, with carefully measured oxygen for them to survive
kept for their skin (that keeps regenerating over and over)
kept for any seal-related things, people use seal stuff for many things, and this is sooo ethical it's not a real seal! plus it's just one that keeps healing!
kept away from water (by force/captivity) even though theyre so attached to bring able to swim and hunt fish
kept away from water by their own fear that theyll be found out. they cant appear anything less than human
seeing products made with seal-parts around the ship and thinking were those actually seals? were those selkies like them? are they going to be made into a pair of boots?
tortured and forced to sell out the rest of the selkies
then possibly being imprisoned alongside them all the same. now theyre the traitor and no one trusts them. they got their family/group back and yet theyre further apart then ever
injured fins. i just like injured fins
blood in the water...
turning back to human in a fisherman's net

~ Dressing For Revenge ~
1788, Orkney Islands
The strangest feeling off all. That was the only way Robert could describe what it felt like when he stripped off his fur and two long bare things grew where his tail fin usually was.
And not only that part of him was changing. When he stared at his reflection in the water he saw that his whole appearance was morphing into that of his kind's worst enemy.
The appearance of a human.
Robert bared his teeth in anger.
Humans. These monsters were the ones who took everything.
The Selkie's fish and their habitat and their family members. Humans were cruel and scary and horrible! His mother had always warned Robert about them. And not just him. His brother too.
The Selkie whimpered at the thought of his older brother. Not too long ago Montgomery had turned into his human form in order to save Robert from a human who had taken him. Montgomery had succeeded but the human had managed to burn his fur. And by doing that he had doomed Montgomery to stay in his human form for the rest of his life.
Montgomery had left the islands together with more humans. Nice humans - that's what his brother had called them. Aye... they had even helped him to save Robert.
Well, maybe there actually were friendly human beings, but Robert knew one that was the monster their mother had always described to the brothers.
The man who had taken him. The man who had wanted to dissect and kill him. The man who had taken his brother from him.
When Robert had found the shiny sharp thing that humans called dagger on the ground of the sea, he knew exactly what he needed to do with it.
And there he was, standing on his human feet, the dagger in his slim human fingers.
He would find him. He would find the man who had destroyed his life. And then? Then he would make him pay for it.
~
It didn't take him too long to find the cabin where the human was living. It was right at the sea. A small home with a boat.
Robert clenched his jaw.
A boat the man used to hunt his kind. A boat the Selkie needed to destroy.
But first, he wanted to end the man himself. He wanted to still his hunger for revenge.
So he sneaked up to the cabin and looked through one of the glassen stones, the humans called windows.
A smile formed on Robert's lips as he saw the human fast asleep. It was just perfect! All he needed to do was sneak inside the house and stab the sharp dagger into the human's body. His grandfather had once told him that that was a way to kill these monsters.
Robert stared down at his furry coat. Since it was a very cold night, he had tied it around his body so that it could warm him.
His eyes fell onto the flames burning in the fireplace inside the cabin. He needed to put them out so that the man didn't have the chance to throw his coat into them, in case he woke up.
But that would probably wake him up anyway.
No... Robert just had to be fast enough. He needed to sneak inside, stab the human and then get back into the water.
An easy plan. A good plan.
~
Slowly, Robert opened the door and he winced when it made a squeaking sound. The Selkie quickly stared at the man in bed and noticed that he hadn't moved. He let out a sigh of relief and took one step forward.
A huge mistake.
It all happened way too fast. Before he knew what was happening, something dropped down from above him and seconds later Robert was lying on the wooden ground of the cabin, wriggling and squirming helplessly.
A net!
A cold chuckle caused Robert to stop moving and he watched in horror as the man who had appeared to be asleep only moments ago, stepped in front of him, grinning down at what he had caught.
"Well, well... what do we have here? A great catch!"
Robert gritted his teeth and he started to squirm once more while the human's gaze fell upon the coat the helpless intruder was wearing.
"Now, if it isn't my wee friend, eh? How lovely of ye to come visit me again."
Forcefully, the man grabbed the net and pulled it further inside the cabin so that he could close the door.
Robert yelped in surprise and for one moment he was paralyzed with fear, but then he remembered the weapon he was carrying with him.
Firmly determined, he used the dagger to cut a whole into the net and once he had shaken it off, he instantly lunged at the human.
Unfortunately though, the Selkie wasn't used to walking and fighting on legs, and the man was stronger and faster. Robert was merely able to inflict one cut to the man's face before this one disarmed him and pushed him to the hard ground.
"My, my. We have a wee fighter here, I see. Not as strong as yer brother though, are ye?"
At hearing Montgomery being mentioned, another wave of anger washed over Robert and he let out an inarticulated cry, trying to get to his feet again. He didn't get too far though. The human kicked him into his ribs and the Selkie could only whimper in pain as he hit the floor again.
He yelped when the man grabbed him by his hair and pulled his head backwards. Then he sat down on his legs to keep him down.
"Ye really chose a perfect timing to come back to me, ye know? I didn't catch a lot of fish in the past few days, but ye'll make a nice stew. And I'm sure yer head will look great above the fireplace."
The man forcefully grabbed the furry coat and started to cover Robert's body with it.
"Let's see how this works. If my studies are right, we're gonna need a little bit of this."
From the corner of his eye, Robert could see that the man was reaching for a nearby bucket of water. He shook his head, eyes wide.
When the water soaked through his coat and he slowly started to turn back into a seal, the Selkie could hear the human laughing loudly.
"It works! It actually works! Perfect!"
Robert yolwed and moved his fin tail back and forth to shove the man off of him, but he wasn't strong enough.
He squeezed his eyes shut in fear when he heard the voice next to his ear.
"Let's cut you open, shall we?"
There was a sharp pain in his left flank and Robert yelped and whimpered as the human slowly started to cut out a big piece of fat and meat. He felt blood rushing from his body and his heart was beating out of his chest from the pain and panic.
He would kill him. The human would kill him. And then he would make a trophy out of him. A trophy to show everyone what kind of monster humans were.
And then... all of Montgomery's efforts would have been in vain.
Montgomery.
Tears filled the Selkie's eyes at the thought of his brother and suddenly he found new strength.
He wouldn't let this happen! He wouldn't let Montgomery's sacrifice be in vain!
Once again, he twisted and turned and this time, he was somehow able to throw the human off. In the process, the man's head hit the edge of the bed and he dropped to the ground unconsciously.
Robert looked at him for a moment, then his eyes fell onto the fireplace. A grim smile formed on the Selkie's lips as he weakly stripped off his fur again and turned back into his human form.
He gathered all the wood he could find and threw it into the flames, causing the fire to grow and grow and when he was sure that it would swallow the whole cabin in no time, Robert glanced at the human one last time.
The monster would die, would burn just like Montgomery's fur.
And when he left the building that was quickly starting to catch fire, Robert knew that he had gotten the revenge he had longed for.
His feet carried him towards the sea and he hurried to put his coat back on. He didn't even look at the trail of blood that was following him. The waves would wash it away sooner or later.
When the water, his home, engulfed his body and he turned back into a seal, he let himself sink deeper and deeper.
He knew that he wouldn't get back to his mother. His grandfather. His friends.
He was too weak to swim. He could only let his body float through the deep water of the sea.
And when he closed his eyes and gave in to the feeling of fatigue, his last thoughts were with his brother.
'I'm sorry, a bhràthair. I'm sorry that I didn't make it.'

@febuwhump Day 5 - Rope Burns
This one features... an AU that we're worked on for a while now over on @mantisgodsaus. You guys like selkies, right? We have more of those.
There is a rope tied around his neck.
He walks, aimless and uncertain. His mouth is dry, his gait is slow.
The fog coating his brain isn’t normal. Isn’t natural. He can feel it dragging at the corners of his brain, lagging, tearing, threatening to draw him under. He resists it as best he can, but he knows that there are things he has lost, even with his best efforts.
There is something that he has to do - some goal, some need- but he can't remember what it might have been now. There is a distinct sense of purpose dogging at the back of his mind, a need to find, a need to continue, to keep going, to move forward no matter what-
But he can't remember what it is.
He continues.
There is a rope around his neck, rubbing at his skin with every step. Maybe it's tied too tight. Maybe it's tied too loose. He can barely breathe with it on, and yet, he can't imagine trying to go on without it. It chafes, chafes, chafes, and he ignores it best he can, trekking forward with single-minded certainty.
He has to do something. He has never been more certain in his life about it. He has to do something, and he cannot delay. People are relying on him.
There is a rope around his neck.
He has a name, but he cannot remember it. The burning, chafing, scratching around his neck does not allow for it. His mind dulls, his paws shake- but he cannot abandon this path, not when he is still needed.
There is a rope around his neck.
Exhausted, tattered, and near ready to drop, the only thing that keeps him moving forward is sheer, raw, force of will.
His paws bleed out lifeblood into the unforgiving sand. His tongue grows dry and cracked, the heat of the desert ravaging his throat until he struggles to breathe. His chest heaves with the effort of walking- in, out, in, out, the mucus of his throat hardening until each breath clogs his windpipe more with bloodying foam.
He cannot stop. He cannot falter. He cannot allow himself to break.
And yet, every breath is harder, more of a pained wheeze than the last, more likely to trap itself in his throat, to force him into fits of coughing and heaving before any capacity to move forward. His momentum is slowly beginning to peter out, sense of purpose failing to propel him out from under the weight of his own body's failure - he moves, but he cannot keep himself going forever.
There is a rope around his neck.
Even through the fog about his brain, it feels like a failure. He stumbles on half-numb paws, particles of sand trapped and abrading in his wounds, and he seeks somewhere- anywhere- to shelter.
There is a rope around his neck.
It has been entirely too long since he has seen a place to den. Longer, still, since he has tasted water. The Lost Sands are hot and endless, still, and loose sand makes for poor shelter. Soft soil, deeper tunnels- something in him cries for him to dig as deep as he can, but even in his delirious state, he knows that he will find no purchase in the sands like this.
There is a rope around his neck.
His strength is beginning to wane when he finally finds it - a dip in the ground, hidden beneath a structure that he knows and does not know all at once. He tries to remember what it is that makes it so familiar, but his head is tired and his thoughts clouded - it is a doomed endeavor from the start, and he is forced to abandon the train of thought, simply limping forward, seeking out the blessed, cool darkness beneath.
There is a rope around his neck.
It burns unpleasantly against his worn-open throat, the wound pulsing erratically beneath it, but he ignores its cloying grip. Something about the darkness calls him- the deep depths of the earth holding a siren's song that he struggles to refuse. He struggles to move forwards, but his paws refuse to obey, threatening to give out beneath him- his body is sore, his throat raw.
There is a rope around his neck.
His limbs fail him.
The siren song calls him ever more, singing, humming in his ears without rest- but his body cannot move another inch, drained of all strength. He must keep going, he must- he has his duty, he has his family, he has the call- but he finds he simply cannot force himself to move another inch.
There is a rope around his neck.
He lies still in the cool earth's grasp, and he waits.
[break]
He wakes to find himself with company.
A shape looms over him, its features indistinct in the earth-encased gloom. The mugginess encasing his thoughts slows his reflexes such that he struggles to respond in time, flailing uncoordinatedly at whatever he can reach. It stands on two legs, two great appendages on its back like fine-furred cloaks as it snatches its hands from his neck - he knows that he is familiar with its kind, but he cannot recall how, nor what it might be.
Their touch only hurts all the more, and he bares his teeth at it, bloody saliva gurgling in the back of his throat. The beast recoils at sight of him, hurrying to the far side of the dirt-den, a scent of fear and worry seeping from it- it is only luck that he might have remained well enough to intimidate it, and he growls and snarls and thrashes until it flees.
Slumber has given him some strength back, although in many ways he feels worse than he was before. It is enough to lift himself from the ground, however temporarily - to stagger deeper into this temporary den.
The cry of the song in his ears has lessened, though it has not entirely stopped. He drags himself deeper, deeper, ever deeper, as far deep as he can before the darkness at the edges of his vision creeps too much to walk. This den is frustratingly shallow, so much so that he can hardly hear the cry- but his paws are too cracked to dig without harming himself further, and the lure of darkness only calls closer the more he attempts to dig.
He lays on his side, exhausted and spent. His paws ache; his muzzle feels cracked and broken, like mud baked in the sun for too long. He cannot breathe without struggle, his breath whistling through his muzzle like the sound of an all-too-familiar alert. He is exhausted, and he can barely force his eyes open, much less force himself to continue moving.
He is so tired, he nearly fails to see the figure returning.
There are two this time - the one he saw before, small and frail, and a larger one, massive and bulky. They are barely feet away from him when he finally sees them - a movement in the darkness, forcing him to twist his head before he can fully see them as he forces himself back onto his paws with the force of sheer adrenaline.
The figures come closer, and closer- he snarls at them, opening his jaw wide and flashing his teeth. The taller grabs the rope, and he chokes, useless paws scrabbling at chitin as she twists him to the ground, as a pair of tongs close around his rope, as it uses a hammer to-
Clarity.
All the runes etched into the binding light up a blinding blue in the instant before it breaks. He can feel his skin scorch around it- a horrible sort of heat, so strong that it nearly steals the breath from his lungs, but the pain is overcome by the feeling of the fog lifting.
He staggers at the sudden loss of the chains, his paws abruptly feeling all too unsteady beneath him- the enchantment is almost disconcertingly strong, and he struggles to adjust to its abrupt absence as the rails on his mind fall away. His mouth feels dry, his neck burns like it's been flayed open, he feels with a dreadful certainty that his skin has been nearly torn through - but he is himself again.
His first thought, freed from the artificial clouding, is a curse.
Fuck.
How long was he like that? How long was he trapped wandering the desert like an aimless dog? He remembers the rope being tightened around his neck, but everything between and now is a shapeless blur. He takes a moment just to process the sharp feeling of dread that seizes him the moment that he realizes the thought, the fear that he's been too late.
How long was he out?
His first attempt to start the change meets failure- the rope burns around his neck protest, sharply and painfully, aggravated by the shift, and he loses his concentration in an instant. Not good. If damaged too much, he's well aware, the change simply won't take until the damage is healed enough to not gash his throat open, but he can't afford to be trapped as a selkie for so long - not in a conflict like this.
His second attempt is slower, and, thankfully, more successful. His skin splits just below his chin as he forces skin to separate from shell- and he's aware of a sudden, burning pain as his throat rips itself open, rivulets of hemolymph spattering from torn flesh.
He lets go of the attempt, the sides of his pelt fusing again.
That is not a good sign.
How long was he out? How much longer before he'll heal enough to turn back? His tail thrashes from side to side, panic abruptly enveloping him. It's another horrifying moment of fear before he remembers to try and ask those who rescued him.
They've crowded closer during his moment of panic. Concern, he's fairly certain. Astotheles' selkie form cannot speak as a bug could. Fortunately, he's well-versed in workarounds. The utility of those workarounds, of course, will depend on who it is that's found him.
Bandit sign first. His attempt to signal questioning is met with a mere head-tilt, both of the bugs involved muttering amongst themselves. Not his Bandits, then. He scratches a simple symbol into the ground- peaceful meeting[1], only to be met with redoubled confusion, one of the bugs doing what seems to be an attempt at deciphering the components of it.
...most likely not bandits at all.
He brushes over the sign, an abrupt wave of dizziness washing over him. He can't tell for certain if it's due to dread or simply side effect of dehydration - which,  arguably, is just as bad of a sign as the hole worn into his neck. It's been entirely too long since he's been a cricket if he's had this long to accumulate thirst. He doesn't recognize the space he's in, but by the lack of bars and total lack of anything keeping him in, he's probably not adding to the list of prisoner cells he's occupied over his lifespan - a small mercy, but still a mercy.
It still doesn't tell him where he is, or where he's been in the intervening time.
A hand tentatively strokes against his side, and he snaps to attention, jerking away from the bug. His selkie form's ears are different from his normal ears - enough so that it can take time to make sense of nearly anything said to him as the sounds echo through cartilaginous outcroppings. The tone, at least, comes across just fine.
Concern is fairly universal.
The larger one offers him a shell filled with... something. He's fairly sure that they're a beetle, by now, though he isn't quite sure - this form relies more on visual cues than scent, and a lot of beetles look more or less the same. It smells like water when he gives it a tentative sniff, and it tastes like water when he tests it - a good samaritan? Or simply fishing for favors?
It matters little, admittedly. The moment he tastes it, he's reminded of just how parched he is, downing half of it in barely a second. He is resistant to dehydration, of course, but he has his limits- he has far more soft tissue to keep hydrated as a selkie than as a bug. He finishes it in record time, licking at the bottom of the preserved shell before it's taken away.
With the water-weight settling in his belly, he is suddenly, vibrantly aware of the fact that he has not eaten in gods-know-how-long.
The smaller bug gestures at him, and he takes a moment to identify it as a common-ish variant of a Moth's sign. Easier to follow than verbal language- his eyes follow movement well like this, in a way he's been told is reminiscent of how mantises follow their prey.
They're asking if he's okay.
He scratches his reply out in Bugnish- "am fine" is not as eloquent as he would like, but he is limited in both space and time here. "need find friends", he scratches out, looking at the beetle and the... probably-a-moth.
Even with a relatively reduced sense of scent, he can smell their incredulity.
He is informed that the moth doesn't appreciate bugs lying to look tough in short order. According to them, he needs food and water and something else first- there aren't really enough moths in his Bandits for him to be terribly well-versed in this particular variant of sign, and he's not familiar with the last one they use.
He is still familiar enough to know what "you agree" looks like.
"cannot wait", he writes. They sign "you agree" with ever-so-slightly more emphasis. Admirable ethic, he supposes, but he still doesn't know how long it's been. He cannot afford to feed himself before his Bandits.
"i go now", he writes. He hauls himself to his feet, intent on marching through the wave of dizziness-
-and finds himself in the arms of the moth, blinking spots of black out of his eyes.
He strongly suspects that he will not win this argument.
He still makes an attempt at protest, pawing at their arms with suddenly-weak claws. They heft him with relative ease, saying something to their partner - he doesn't understand what, exactly, but he gets the gist of the concern. Considering their previous statements... this is not ideal.
He wishes, at times, that his selkie form was a big bigger. This is one of them. He does not have a particularly strong bite, nor does he have any means of utilizing the bite he has. Considering the situation at hand, this is very, very unfortunate for his prospects of finding his Bandits any time soon.
He still squirms as he is carted out of the hollow. He still snarls, making his displeasure known as sharply as he can manage. The rope burns pull painfully with nearly every movement he makes, leaking selkie-red blood all over the moth's front - he cannot quite bring himself to care, in the moment. He has business to do, he has bugs to attend to, he has an organization to run-
And unfortunately for him, none of these facts make him any less trapped in the eyes of a wayward silk moth and his charmsmith girlfriend.
[1] Peaceful Meeting, part of a cant script commonly used among the Bandit groups around Defiant Root. Signifies a place where bugs are to meet for a peaceful meeting - there is also a variant for a meeting where hostilities are to be expected, although it is most commonly used to overwrite the peaceful variant once a meeting has gone sour.

Ok has anyone seen the Irish movie 'The Secret of Roan Inish?' Because I saw that years and years ago and basically all I remember is a scene where this guy gets dragged up from the ocean freezing cold and they like...tie him to a cow in the barn so the cows' body heat will warm him up?? Anybody else remember this??

For your word game: Detached
Legend looks down at his hands. He wonders when he started feeling so detached, when his hands started looking like they weren’t his anymore. He’s so tired…but does he really have a right to feel this way?

The Magnus (fic rec) Archives
This one has been literally years in the making and a true testiment to the power of hyperfixation and what I could maybe do if my brain decided something like graduating highschool was actually really interesting.
I'm sure my fic preferences will be made very much clear as you read this, so do keep in mind said preferences might not allign with yours. I have included a lot of Whump, H/C and angst in my list, so if you're not into that sort of thing, that's fine, have a nice day. I've also got some content warnings in my descriptions as well for the more... intense....whump?... yeah let's go with that.
(Most are all Jmart, but there's some JonTim, some LonelyEyes on the side, and the occassional OG archivist squad polyamory, anything tagged as Jon/Elias is 100% in some kind of whump scenario)
Rec list and key under the cut (^o^)/
Key:
Bold = 11/10 fic, very much had me thinking about if for way longer than I should have, recommending it way too many times than is necessary and pretty regularly rereading it
Purple italics = didn't quite have the same earth shattering effect as the bold fics, but very much worth a read all the same
Plain text = it's up there fam, but not quite on the same level as the purple italics or bold fics
The garden of forking paths - by bibliocratic
After killing Elias and presumably setting the world back the way it was Jon and Martin find themselves falling through the doors of the distortion, holding each other tight and doing everything they can to not let go. It's only when Jon wakes up later to an archivist named Sasha and the Tim he used to know waving an axe in his face that he realizes that wherever somewhere else was, he came through alone.
First fic I ever read for TMA that I connected with really, written midway through season 5 so we pretty much ignore any canon ending, but I don’t think any of us are particularly complaining about that one considering the sheer amount of fix its. (Completed)
Out There, Somewhere - Artyphex
Jon wakes up, blind and alone and bleeding out having been spat out of the crack between realities after the end of the world and now finds himself alone, alone and in pain, entirely alone in a way he's never felt before, in a world that is not his with no one he knows and loves beside him. And he is left to search, with unseeing eyes and shaking words for the one person he needs to know is okay. (Completed)
They keep trying to row away (series) - by assigned_Jon_Kin_Again (sparrow0), blackwood (transjon), radula (stickpenalties), screechfox, skvadern
Body horror mermaid fic that breaks my heart in the best way, feat. Archivist Sasha and maybe a polyamory between the 4 main archivist crew? Either way a hurt/comfort mermaid fic that I can't stop coming back to. If you're a big fan of Whump and excessive angst with the sweat relief of comfort this is the fic for you, but please for the love of god pay attention to the Trigger Warnings. (Series complete)
Family, Found - Dribblescribbles
Basira was there for the unknowing, she was there when Elias told them all to their faces that he was a bastard who was using them for something none of them could understand, and ever since the unknowing she's been doing whatever she could, taking whatever scraps of investigations she could to find the answers. And of all the people it had to be Helen who helped her figure it out. Because Jon is not a monster, but the Web and the Eye are doing their damn best to make him one, and she's going to make sure that the others working for the archives aren't doing the same. (One Shot)
My witness brings me Into existence - by driflew
A take on Not!Jon au with an exploration on what happens if he comes back and the experiences he has to deal with as someone who cannot be physically remembered but still wants to help out Sasha and the others, even if Elias, the one person who seems to know him, won't let him.
This one has me feeling a lot of things, currently existing as just a One shot but I'm still crossing my fingers from some extra additions to the series, and boy does this one have me coming back on the regular. (Completed fic, Series ongoing)
Not a Second Thought - by i_can_do_fics
An alternate take on Not!Jon, specifically involving the web instead of the stranger. Where people aren't replaced, but thin unseeable strings of spider silk force his hand and his tongue and his body in no way he can resist. And after everything that'd happened since this all started, he's not quite sure it's a bad thing. (One shot)
Miles to Go before I sleep - by AuralQueer
Sleep Dep. Hurt Comfort Set S4, feat. A Jon who is putting himself through way too much crap but honestly that's just par for the course. (One shot)
Beastly Behavior - by Prim_the_Amazing
Martin is a man struck by a curse, a curse that is vindictive and cruel and cast by someone he will always love despite everything she's done to him. Jon is a man on the run from a monster of his own, a man with all the power in the world to take everything he has left of himself for his own entertainment. Two men with two tasks, a mother and a grandmother, both dying in their beds and both losing a part of their freedom and themselves trying to save them. Both terrified of the world they live in, of the person they grow to love, of the people they may be becoming.
A Beauty and the Beast au with a bit of a twist, and a happy ending well worth the wait. (Completed)
The Sea Calls Me Home - mothjons
Martin Blackwood takes a job at Peter Lukas's estate in exchange for his mother's care and
their housing for his service. It's not a pretty job, it's not anything Martin would have picked for himself but nothing he'd had ever would be and he's resigned himself to that fact, no matter how much it hurts. And then he meets a strange man by the sea, and god knows all the secrets and the pain of loving someone is the one choice he knows for certain he'd never give up.
Not going to lie this one had by ugly crying by the end. A great and honestly very angsty take on Mer Jon x Martin but also set during the height of WWI and I promise you there is of course a happy ending they both deserve. (Complete)
Head in the Lion's Mouth - by renwhit
Au where Danny is alive, damaged goods but alive. So when a certain archivist, possibly delirious and in pain, narrows his eyes and tells him he looks familiar in a way the other uncanny circus members don't, it sparks something in him he can't explain and for the first time in over a decade the ringmaster has a name. (Series is ongoing)
Maybe they'll leave you alone, but not me - by ghostfrog
A cute ongoing fic where Jon becomes a teacher after Martin singlehandedly stops the apocalypse at the end of S4, and because they're both trying to move on with their lives Jon becomes an English teacher for a local school, where he has a class that are a bit too observant, and maybe just a bit too into cryptids.
There Are Monsters In These Woods - by DoilySpider
Once upon a time there was a prince of a kingdom named blackwood, with a wicked stepfather who wanted him dead. One day the prince asked his stepfather what he could do to claim the crown that they both knew was rightfully his, and the stepfather told him that a king must be brave, and to prove it he must then slay the beast of eyes.
Once upon a time there was a man named Jonathan Sims, a man who sought whatever knowledge and magic it would take to be able to protect those he loved from the monsters that took everything from him; and so he went to see the Mage Magnus, who would only be making him just one more.
Dark Fairytale au? Well that's what you get I suppose when the fandom is based around a horror podcast. All I can say really is that I love the world-building on this one, and the writing, featuring a happily ever after we all know they all deserve and some Jon/Martin/Tim/Gerry Polyamory. (Complete)
A Weather In The Flesh - by cuttooth
An emotionally devastating one shot about touch starvation that may or may not have made me feel a lot of things (One shot)
One of these birds, is not my bird - by updownandsideways
Just a good ol' Not Jon fic, a bit predictable in places but the gist is Jon is taken by the Not Them and Martin's feeling a bit different about Jon since he got back from the Prentiss incident, it's only when he re-reads some of his old poetry that he finds out why. (Complete)
Thresholds (series) - by bubonickitten
At the precipice of finding out he's changing into something inhuman, Elias decides to give Jon a push, with the perfect bit of information to leave him a wreck, and makes him know the story of a young man he remembers all too clearly being taken by dear old Mr. Spider. (Complete)
Chamomile - Dribbledscribbles
Chamomile is a mischievous little creature who finds its delight in seeing how many times they can give the people in this safe house a heart attack. It's attempts on Martin have been successful to a fault, pushing him as far as it can to scare the living daylights out of him before he comes at him with a broom and scuttling away before he can come close. It's a fun game they have, but when they try it on Jon it just doesn't work. It's not fun, because Jon lets it win, Jon names it, Jon gives him cuddles and lets it rest on his shoulder, and this little creature is rather determined not to give up.
Aka a cute fluff fic where Jon and Martin are living in their cottage in Scotland and end up adopting a few of the spookier residents. (Completed)
Go softly - by doomcountry
Martin brings home a jug of bleach, sets it on the counter with an eyedropper for when Jon is ready, and even if both of them know it will hurt, that is has to be done, but no matter what they are going to get through this together.
TW for eye mutilation (Oneshot)
Terror Management Theory - by prismatical
Jonathan sims was eaten by a spider when he was eight, he died, but then he came back. Since then Jon has a very interesting relationship with death, one that terrifies him more than anything else, more than any other fear, and it's going to take a hell of a lot to earn his right to death back. (Completed)
Nature has taught her creatures to hate - thepolysyndetonaddictsupportgroup
Many times Jon has tried to run, sometimes it even worked, sometimes he got barely made it out alive at the end of the day, but it never worked when he was running from the Magnus institute, from James Wright or Elias Bouchard, or from the horrors that have never let him go since he was eight and stupid enough to pick up that damn book. The powers that be had taken him as a child, wrapped him in tight cobwebs of contracts and kidnappings and under a bruising hand on his shoulder that guided him down the path of inhumanity no matter how hard he tried to run. And even now, when he's failed again and facing losing another of a short line of close connections to the curse that is the Magnus institute, he can't back out.
NGL this one is depressing at times, but it kept my eyes glued to the screen it was so thrilling. Featuring a Jon who was chased to the Magnus institute by a book and a boy overflowing with spiders, and then claimed by something even worse, lots of child abuse and Elias being a manipulative bastard. (Ongoing)
Reflection - by LazuliQuetzal
There's something haunting Jonathan sims, something that looks just like him, but different all the same. Something inhuman that he cannot allow himself to trust, no matter what it says or claims to know about him. Something that keeps telling him with every moment they have to stay away from the archives, no matter what.
Meanwhile, Jonathan Sims, the monster and remnant of a ruined world, is rapidly forced to reconcile with living in the past as something no one is able to see or even notice as anything out of the ordinary, not even with the power of the eye behind them, and as fun as getting some small sense gratification from being petty and messing with Jonah as much as he can, the only person he can really talk to is quite literally himself.
And he's a fucking idiot.
This fic is great if you just want a little giggle and some catharsis. Pending alternate title is currently tied between "Two Jons in an archive, what will he do?" and "Jon would be the first person to tell you that he is absolutely insufferable". (complete)
See the Line where the Sky meets the Sea - by The_Floating_World
Jon has always had a fascination with things vastly incomprehensible, staring out from a dock out at the ocean and marveling at the infinity of everything before him. How the sky can be perfectly reflected in the ocean, how everything is endless and so vast in such a beautiful way, and I need not tell you that fears have never been loved in the way Jon loves infinity. After a probably not so chance encounter with Simon Fairchild, Jonathan Sims begins his slow evolution to becoming as an avatar of the vast, but he's different in a way the others aren't. Asking questions with no answer and living on that threshold between the vast and unknowable and madness in a way the other's haven't seen before, and by virtue of his own strangeness, even in the face of the other avatars, he is known as the philosopher, a man who isn't a man that seems content to hide just how powerful he really is.
At least until he makes some friends of his own and they come under threat. (Complete)
Starving Gods - by sevansa
Jon is in a really, really bad place when he decides to go through with it, knowing with a certainty his future doesn't have that if he were to follow in the footsteps of Eric Delano, he wasn't going to allow himself the luxury of a chance to back out, not with so many victims at stake.
Needless to say the shock of finding Jon in his office like that, unconscious and mutilated is something none of them will ever forget.
TW eye mutilation but you already knew that, first fic i the series is complete, but the sequel is still ongoing.
The Unknown Watcher - by authureameslove
Martin knows the rules as well as anyone else. You do not stay out past dark, not for anything, lest you fall prey to monsters and madness more potent than any ghost story or relentless creature cooked up by gods bigger than anyone could have imagined. So on a dark night, chased by monsters a plenty and his own stupid decision to chance it Martin Blackwood stumbles upon an estate filled with its own monstrosities. Two killers stalking the woods that weren't there before, a stranger in the night, two who cannot leave lest they be unmade with wooden splinters where there should be skin, and a man with two glowing green eyes and a face that no one can see. Each with their own stories to tell, each bound to this place by powers out of their control and choices they have made and each playing their own part in the end of both themselves and the world.
And of all things, they seem to think that Martin just might be the only one who can save them.
Inspired loosely on Beauty and the Beast with its own unique and captivating TMA Spin, this fic had be glued to my seat in anticipation, and I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys tales of vengeance, Jmartin and that classic ghost story style mystery. (Complete)
Déjà Vu - CirrusGrey
What do you even do with yourself when you are given a second chance? What does it mean to truly feel your death, being unmade or destroyed or unwound or stabbed through the heart by the man you love, and waking up alone long before you would have come to know any of it. Remembering everything, every pain, every choice that led to it and everything that you can't bring yourself to believe hasn't happened yet, and to do so all alone?
Sasha James was unmade, Tim Stoker was destroyed, Martin was unwound, and Jon was stabbed through the heart by his love. They all woke up alone on a day long before even the thought of Prentiss would touch them, and they all think they're the only one.
The Watcher's Bargain - arthureameslove
Fae au says what?
Martin hadn't known freedom since he was a child, when the witch Mary Blackwood took him in and bound him with silver threads and promises. So when she lays sick and dying in their house he makes a bargain with her. The Death's book of names and her life in return for his freedom. He should have known stealing from the Fae would have consequences beyond death, should have known the witch would have been vindictive enough to only allow him to leave her if it meant trading one prison for another, and this time, surrounded by the high court of the Panopticon, with Fae and tortured humans in chains, bound to one who speaks in half-truths and secrets, hope has never been so far from his eyes.
At least that is, until the fae proposes a bargain of his own. (Ongoing)
This Lonely Knight - arthureameslove
Martin doesn't remember why or how he came to join the knights of the Lonely, nor does he remember any of a life before that point. Like the many other heartless knights he cast away his memories and the pain they carried with them with his choice and that was just the way it was. It's not until he's sent to escort a strange man from the beholding to be the Watcher's betrothed that he begins to find what he'd been missing, what being of the Lonely had kept him from, and more importantly that he can't go through with his suicidal mission to see the death of his charge.
Honestly, this is classic fairytale knight and royal in an arranged marriage romance but with another perfect Magnus Archives twist from arthureameslove. (Complete)
What Belongs to the Sea - TwoDrunkenCelestials, WhyNotFly
When Jon first meets Elias he's dry as a bone and still smelling of thick salt with wild hair, knocking on his door with fury in his eyes and blood roaring in his veins as he demands back his stolen skin. For all his grandmother's warnings though, he still ends up in a gilded cage of his own making. Soon Jon, against his better judgement and consent is swept up into the path of the unblinking, newlywed and bound by powerful magic and paraded around in ceremony and unfeeling shows of affection and control. It's only after an admittedly prickly encounter with Martin, that he begins to hope.
TW there is abuse here, and alot of iron burns (Complete)
The Path of Least Resistance - chermit
Martin, Sasha and Tim go into what they think will be a normal day of work in 2016, and it is anything but. They arrive to find a crime scene, swamped with police officers there to inform them plainly that everyone in the institute is dead, except for them. Elias in his office clutching his head as if in pain, Jon shot three times in the chest with an empty look in his eyes and the rest of them from apparent cardiac arrest. Needless to say they want answers, they want justice, and if it means involving themselves in a world of monsters and fear a mysterious someone had tried so hard to keep them safe from, then so be it. (Ongoing)
The Sweetest Thing - JoyHeart
Martin has always been warned away from humans, his mother took great pains to plant that fear firmly within long before she and all of Selkie kind seemed to turn their backs on him. It isn't until he's rescued from some particularly nasty flesh worms by the Magnus Institute for Oceanic Research and Rescue that he finds an alternate perspective. Unfortunately, even if he doesn't yield his form, Martin's about to find that humans have more than one way of keeping a selkie under their grasp, even if completely unintentionally.
A martin selkie au that had me cackling, in suspense and squealing with just the right amount of fluff (for my tastes at least) featuring Marine Biologist Jon who's just as insufferable when it comes to his skepticism as he is incredibly sweet. (complete)
Heavy angst and whump warning for the sequel (which is ongoing)
A deeply annoying child - ajkal2
A oneshot (that I will defend until my dying breath) where Jon reads a Leitner that turns him into his 8 year old self right after his encounter with Mr Spider and Tim is there to help him pick of the pieces. (Oneshot)
Antigonish - softlyblue
Martin inherits an the Blackwood house from a woman he's never heard of sharing his last name and very quickly finds it inhabited by something trying to kill him, something that is not the four friendlier ghosts that inhabit the place, and something that goes a hell of a lot deeper than cold spots and whispers in the night. It's not so much a choice then to call in the cavalry when a portion of the very well-built roof tries to crush him for the third time in a row, so he sends a reluctant email to three ghost hunters under Basira's recommendation, with one of which being a man reportedly most adept of seeing and reaching out to things that are not there. (Complete)
The Reverb in These Holy Halls - Wolftraps (AlwaysBoth)
After a distinctly unwell day at work Jonathan Sims comes to awareness and marches in to the archives without so much as a word and declares himself to Elias and Martin both as the new head archivist. A lot of people are confused by this, a lot of people suspect Jon of murdering Gertrude and a lot of people want to know what the hell is going on with him. With a bargain made, and an eye and a Spider in his heart Jonathan Sims is going to save the world, and this time he's going to do it right.
Very generic premise of a Timetravel TMA fix it but it comes with some added flavor thanks to some clever writing from the author/s.
Two Graves - SupposedToBeWriting
In saving the world singlehandedly Jonathan Sims honestly thought he was going to die, so it was more than a surprise when he didn't, and even more than his plan actually worked. Now, with nothing but the remnants of fear and a broken heart he flees London, along with everything and everyone to do with the Magnus institute, but quickly finds himself a new purpose with a garden and connection to some avatars who need some help finding themselves after their patron's disappearance.
And then his world shatters when Martin and Basira finally manage to track him down.
This one got me through a particularly rough patch, a fic about reconciliation after the end of the world was... well, ended, and about reconnecting and forgiving the ones you love. TW for some implied sucidal thoughts and ideation. (completed)
The Archivist and the Adventurer (series) - paperdream
There are few things for a human that is worse than to be considered lovely by the Fae, and that is a lesson Jon, like so many things, had to learn the hard way. Ensnared by the wild hunt and bound to the high fae Elias and forcibly changed by the Mother of Spiders, all Jon has left to hold on to is his name, spending his days confined to the Archives to serve and be subject to the whims of the fae, whatever they may be. At least that is, until he finds his solace in helping an adventurer escape the cruelty of the fae unscathed, no matter how foolish he may be. (Ongoing)
Auspex (Series) - faridsgwi
(Victorian AU) The year is 1841, and Jonah Magnus is ready to begin building his archive in London. Now it's just a manner of going to the workhouse to find a child that won't be missed to serve as his repository.
Highly recommended au for you guys, as of now it's still ongoing but my god is it keeping my rapt attention in hopes for updates to the series. Featuring our good old Victorian asshole and resident child abuser Jonah Magnus, as he builds up his new archive and apprentice Jonathan Sims in preparation for his uses. Assistants will be traumatized, friends will be made along the way, and as always remember the apocalypse is always much closer than you think. (Ongoing)
The Kindness of Strangers - theOestofOCs
What's that saying? That Hindsight is 20/20? After a rather delicately arranged meeting in eye neutral terf (read as not in the institute) on Tim's request, Jon is finally able to get the chance to really talk to Tim since… well everything. So when the two find themselves snagged by Breekon and Hope and handed over to Nikola Orsinov, let's just say Tim being in the wrong place at the wrong time was the least of their worries.
Content warning for disassociation, forced nudity and non-consensual touching (not sexual), this one is heavy on the angst, but if you, like me, really wanted Jon and Tim to get the chance to actually reconcile before the unknowing, and love seeing Tim's protective older brother side, then this is the fic for you. (Completed)
Stag Story - With_the_Wolves
Stag's are notoriously hard to capture in the wild, using magic to flee and disappear before any bullet comes close to touching them. As a results hunts are often drawn out and tedious in search of trophies, and notoriously difficult to pull of successfully, at least until one of the most respected of the Hunter's alliance, Elias, comes up with something of a solution.
A solution he keeps under lock and key and threat of iron burns and torture should he disobey. His precious bait stag, cowed and shaped to his will, and he's going to use him to finally kill the Beast of the Northern Forest. (Oneshot)
The Fates Design - theOestofOCs
Kept hidden, starving and without any memory of a time before Elias saved him, the Archive had resigned himself to a life under his care and in his service. He was the Archive after all, a danger to himself and the world, this was what he was for.
So when a thief climbs in through the window of his tower, and gives him a story to ease the pain of hunger and asks him to come with him, at least until Elias's return, he accepts. The want for the pain to end winning out over the safety of his tower and unfortunately, the knowledge that this is where he should be for the safety of the realm.
And then he meets a ginger haired man he couldn't be sure he'd only ever seen in his dreams, and things change.
Alternately titled by the author as the Tmagled au (which I absolutely love), this one puts a really intriguing TMA twist on the classic Rapunzel set up, with some added mystery that had me desperate for more.
As it stands it is still ongoing, and pretty new, but as of posting this has actually been updated fairly recently.
The Lives We've Shared - The OestofOCs
Jon finds something he shouldn't have, something someone took great lengths to keep hidden, and something Elias Bouchard doesn't want him listening to. A tape from Gertrude, hidden below a loose floorboard in his office, speaking with certainty of death and leaving a warning for her successor.
Needless to say Elias will do anything to make sure a secret like that doesn't come to light, so after a short flick of a blade across his throat, all he needs to do is clean up as much of the blood from the office as he can and start again with one of his assistants.
What no one accounted for though, was Jon coming back.
Completed fic where Jon dies and comes back as a ghost, with the single goal to protect his people as much as he can from Elias and others like him.
Fold, Fallow and Plough - theOestofOCs
Jon is a marine conservationist researcher, so when he sees the net squirming and rolling on the beach with something impossible inside, he does what he always has and cuts it free, regardless of any praise or recognition he might have gotten from the discovery.
So when the head of the Magnus institute of Marine discovery arrives moments later, fuming and demanding to know what happened to his catch, Jon certainly isn't going to apologize for doing the right thing. No matter what earning the man's ire might bring upon himself.
He just… he didn't expect this.
Have I mentioned I'm a big fan of Mermaid Body Horror? TW for abuse, non-consensual body modification and a lot of whump, featuring Mer Tim, Danny and Sasha as they try to walk their unexpected charge through a new life under the waves, as others above continue to search for the missing researcher. (Ongoing)
Darkling I listen (half in love) - theOestofOCs
Jon had never had a good feeling about their newest client Jonah Magnus, but it's not until he sees him one night crawling down the side of his castle with spiderlike grace that he truly comes to realize he's not human, and Martin needs to survive this. So, throwing caution to the wind and what he knows has to be all sense with it, he makes a deal with Magnus. Martin will be sent back to London under the guise that Jon will be continuing their work here, and Jon's life is forfeit.
But Magnus has far greater plans for his new pet, and no intention of letting him go that easily.
If you're me and you've read the original Dracula by Bram Stoker this is one hell of a treat. Just the right amount of TMA and Dracula plot points with some very well written body horror as Jonathan finds himself slowly turning into a creature of the night. (Ongoing)
The Archivist's Moving Castle - Hallali
In a world full of magic and monsters a plenty, Martin's life on its own has thus far been profoundly uninteresting. But dreaming of adventure in the hills was never a way to stay safe, and Martin has always been quietly content, if a fair bit lonely, tending to the town's library under the employ of one Peter Lukas. At least, that is, until a strange man full of magic of his own seeks his sanctuary and promises to help him escape, a hope Martin can at least hold onto for now even as his world twists beyond the limits of what he thought possible and he is cursed and forced to flee before Jon could even have the chance to return. Which is all well and good he could suppose, he needed to get out anyway, he just wished there were less monsters trying to kill him involved. (Ongoing)

My Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles OCs
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles is a game where different characters from a wide variety of tribes must collect myrrh to refill to protect their towns from a worldwide poison named miasma, which, if left there long enough, could kill someone. These OCs are from my playthrough.
CHARACTER DESIGNS FROM THE GAME ITSELF.
Ambra
Tumblr media
A sweet young Clavat, the most human out of the four tribes, who lives in Tipa. Chosen as one of the villagers to bring myrrh to her town, she travels far and wide and meets friends and foes along the way. Despite her sweet demeanor, she isn't afraid to confront those who did wrong.
Hareth
Tumblr media
A Selkie with a hatred towards Clavats due to his past. Abrasive and mean due to his past, but eventually warms up to the team after some time, even eventually dating Ambra. He is fiercely protective of those whom he cares about. Used to live with a Clavat mother who horrifically abuses him until Ambra and the team stepped in.
Merle
Tumblr media
A Yuke who travels the land. She came across Ambra and Hareth while traveling Mushroom Forest, and eventually joins them for the journey. Intelligent and acts motherly to her team, being the oldest. However, she tends to lose her cool when someone flirts with her, something Fina takes advantage of.
Egan
Tumblr media
A young Lilty who was lost in The Mine of Cathuriges. He was rescued by the team and he decided to tag along. Despite being a child, he has a sharp tongue, and tends to curse, something that shocks the adults around him every time. Despite his small stature, he can fight well.
Rae
Tumblr media
Childhood friends with Ambra, Rae the Clavat always strives to be a hero of Tipa. Because of that, he tends to act recklessly, even at one point got himself captured by Goblins, but his heart remained in the right place. He can prove that he could be a hero well, despite coming back hurt.
Fina
Tumblr media
A Selkie with a flirtatious personality. She, like Merle, travels the land, but only to steal for a quick Gil. She stole from Merle and after a close call against a monster, she decided to tag along. She loves to flirt with Merle, which always catches the Yuke off guard.
Gulru
Tumblr media
A timid Yuke who was kidnapped at a young age by Jack Moschet, and forced to work as a slave. He was rescued by the team, and now happily lives in Tipa, trying to readjust to freedom. He's close with Rae, who had saved his life, and even developed a crush towards the Clavat.
Keiko
Tumblr media
A Lilty, and the youngest of the team. She's carefree and loves to go exploring, and due to that, her team wondered how she was chosen to collect drops of myrrh. However, her personality had helped the team get out of sticky situations, and she became a valuable member of the team. The team is protective of her.

Cool fish/ocean critters I think it would be cool to use for merpeople, because my head is still full of mer whump and probably will be until June:
• mantis shrimp (nuclear punch is a must)
• leafy seadragon
• thresher shark (specifically this species because their tails are awesome)
• marine iguana (this would be kinda creepy because legs but I also sort of love it)
• seahorse
• mosasaurus (this mer would be enormous and beautiful and majestic and the coolest ever)
• arapaima
• slippery dick
• yellowtail snapper
• rainbow wrasse (these things are so pretty)
• cuttlefish (color changing included)
• sea turtle (no I don’t know how this would work I just like sea turtles)
• lionfish (venom spines!!!!)
• barracuda
• selkies but instead of seals they’re sea otters
• sea bunny (because adorable)
• sheep of the sea (see above)
• electric eel (shocking, I know)
• moon jellyfish (tell me this would not be the prettiest merperson ever)
• frickin’ oarfish (just. mer but also sea serpent.)
Anyway if I was an artist I would draw these but I’m not so I won’t. Enjoy.

June of Doom Day 25
25. “Don’t move!”
| Natural Disaster | Drowning | Stranded |
TW: treason, minor character deaths
A/N: Alternate Universe - Selkie
~
When Khan Noonien Singh opened his eyes, he didn't remember much. All he remembered was that he and his crew had been attacked by a ship of the fleet and taken under fire.
The pirate ship Botany Bay hadn't stood a chance against that damn Captain Marcus and his crew.
Their only option had been to escape, and in doing so they had been separated. No member of the crew had survived.
The swell had been hard and unrelenting and most of the little boats had been wrecked on the cliffs. Only Khan had miraculously survived.
But he had been knocked unconscious and so he did not know how he had ended up in the small cave on the beach.
When he had tried to sit up, a voice had yelled at him, sounding panicked.
"Na gluais!" it had said, and even though Khan didn't understand a single word, he could only asume that it was warning him to move. He felt miserable. Some of his bones had to be broken.
Eventually, however, the mysterious rescuer had helped him sit up, and Khan still watched in fascination as the rescuer built a small fire.
The man was... exceedingly handsome. His auburn hair shimmered in the light of the flames. He had pale skin and gray eyes. Probably the most uncommon thing, however, was the fact that he wore no clothes. Every part of his body was exposed.
When the man got up and sat down with him, Khan couldn't help but look him up and down. The man blinked with interest before carefully touching the pirate's face.
"Tha thu nad dhuine."
Khan narrowed his eyes in confusion. What... what kind of language was that? Was it the strange Gaelic he and the rest of his crew had been told about when they left for Scotland?
"I... I don't understand you. I... speak English."
The brown-haired man tilted his head before apparently understanding. His expression brightened.
"You... English. You... Human."
Involuntarily, Khan's eyebrows moved up. What kind of strange person was this?
"Um, yes... I am a human."
Khan caught sight of something like fascination in his counterpart's eyes. A smile was on his lips and the man pointed to himself.
"I... Montgomery."
Montgomery? Was that his name? Khan blinked for a moment before pointing to himself.
"My name is Khan. Did... you save me?"
Even though Montgomery didn't seem to speak English all that well, he could probably understand, because he nodded eagerly.
"Found at the chladach.... uh... coast. Brought here."
Khan looked around. Was this cave, by any chance, Montgomery's home?
"Do you live here?"
For a moment Montgomery hesitated, but then he shook his head.
"Tha mi a' fuireach anns a' mhuir.... um... sea. In the sea."
Khan just laughed at the man's choice of words. He really didn't know any English.
"You mean by the sea. You live by the sea."
But again his counterpart shook his head.
"'S e selkie a th' annam. Selkie... live in the sea."
A... Selkie? Khan had heard of them. Stories told that these creatures lived in the sea as seals, but could transform into humans when they shed their fur.
His gaze slid around the cave and.... there! In one corner, he spotted something brown.
So Montgomery... was actually a Selkie. It was simply incredible! But it also confused Khan.
"Why... did you save me? I thought Selkie hated humans."
Montgomery looked down at the ground, silent for a long moment before looking back up at Khan.
"Mother... forbid. But I... want to learn. More knowledge about human."
Again, fascination sparkled in Montgomery's eyes and Khan couldn't help but smile.
"Of course, Montgomery. Learning is important. And because you saved me, I want to reciprocate as thanks. Ask me whatever you want."
The pirate had learned that one should be grateful to a rescuer. So he would do his best to return the favor.
And the happy look in the beautiful eyes was worth it.
++++++++
Montgomery took loving care of him. He brought him food, made fire again and again, helped him to move again.
And in return Khan helped the Selkie to speak better English, to understand humans and their behavior. He answered all of Montgomery's questions, gave him his coat so he could dress with it.
And after some time, Khan was finally able to walk again. Montgomery had managed to nurse him back to health and Khan was incredibly grateful to him.
He was finally able to look around, to explore the coast where he had been stranded. He found other people who knew English and he learned what had happened to his ship.
It had been completely destroyed. Everything he had ever owned had been taken from him.
And besides the unspeakable grief, another feeling filled the pirate. Pure hatred.
Hatred for Captain Marcus.
Hatred for the fleet.
He would avenge his crew. He would destroy this man.
And when he learned that Marcus' ship regularly docked on the island, a plan formed in his mind.
He would get his revenge.
++++++++
"I want to introduce you to someone, Montgomery. A very friendly person I met during my explorations."
Khan walked along the beach, Montgomery close at his side. The Selkie was beaming to both cheeks.
"A... second teacher for me?"
A smile crossed Khan's face. Montgomery's English had really improved a lot. The pirate had done a good job.
"Yeah, sort of."
They walked slowly, although Khan would have very much liked to get to his destination as soon as possible. But he knew he owed it to Montgomery.
The Selkie had done so much for him... there was only one more thing missing.
They talked, laughed together, asked each other questions, but finally they reached the end of the cliff.
The man Khan had met earlier was already standing there. He smiled when he saw the two men moving toward him.
"Montgomery, this is Mr. Mudd."
The dirty grin on Mudd's face grew even wider as he took Montgomery's hand and shook it.
"Hello, my friend."
Immediately, the Selkie's eyes sparkled again.
"Friend? And... ye are... teacher?"
Mudd exchanged a glance with Khan, who nodded subtly.
"Well, yeah sure. I'm your teacher. Any questions? I'm your man."
Khan didn't like this man's manner at all, but he was a means to an end.
Montgomery looked with fascination at the vehicle Mudd had come here in. A carriage - Khan had taught him that word.
In the back was a large, silver box with a great many gaps to look through. Montgomery had never seen anything like it. Khan could see that in his face.
"Is that... yer house?"
Curious, the Selkie inspected the strange structure and Mudd stepped up to him, putting an arm around his shoulder.
"Sort of. Want to take a look inside?"
Khan felt his heart almost grow heavy as Montgomery nodded enthusiastically.
The Selkie had no idea he was climbing into a cage that would be his home for a long time.
"Khan told me you were a Selkie. Can you... show me how to do that?"
Montgomery blinked in confusion for a moment, but then grabbed the fur he was carrying.
"I... need some water from the sea."
Mudd just laughed out.
"That's no problem at all. Take a look in that bucket over there, my friend."
Khan just watched as Montgomery gleefully ran to the bucket, which must have been filled with water and fish.
He put on his fur, doused himself with water, and just a short time later, a seal was sitting in the spot where just a moment before there had been a human.
A loud bang made Khan wince and he saw that Mudd had closed the cage.
Cautiously, the pirate stepped closer to the cage and touched the soft fur of the Selkie.
"I'm sorry about that, Montgomery. But I just had to trade you."
A confused yelp escaped the seal and its head tilted to the side.
"The dynamite is already on Marcus' ship. All you have to do is shoot a flaming arrow at it once the crew is aboard."
With those words, Mudd handed the pirate said arrow and patted him on the back.
"Pleasure doing business with you. Any show with that thing is going to make me a lot of money. And if need be, I can always sell it to a cook."
Khan didn't take his eyes off Montgomery. The yelps grew more desperate as the Selkie realized he couldn't get out of the cage.
"The deal was that not a hair on his head would be harmed. And I expect you to stick to it."
Mudd just shrugged his shoulders.
"As far as I'm concerned. The main thing is to make the deal worth my while."
Khan barely noticed the man get into the carriage and leave.
He could only look at Montgomery and feel guilty.
But... he had to avenge his crew! Marcus had to pay!
When it was all done, he would somehow free Montgomery. He would save him, and in doing so, he would finally pay him back for saving his life.

Day 16: The Forgetful Selkie
Pairing: Selkie Fox x Fae Queen Reader
Author’s Note: I genuinely hurt myself with one so be warned. I usually don’t post the sad stuff I write so this is new for me. Also in this AU, Fox getting “disposed off” by Vader happens like over a year later than it does in canon.
Warnings: Hurt/comfort. I think this technically is whump, but it’s more about comfort than anything. Memory issues. Non-descript reference to the trauma, both mental and physical, and cruelty done by Palpatine.
Word Count: 765
Prompt: The young Fae Lord looked down upon the girl from his throne and asked, “Where is your seal skin?”
The words froze in her throat. How could she respond?
“I don’t have one,” she said after a moment, and hastily amended, “my Lord.”
The court’s whispers rose like the wind through tree leaves.
“May I ask why I would?” She could feel countless eyes on her even despite her own gaze on the lush ground.
He rose from his throne and descended the steps at its base, coming face to face with her. The scent of pine was nearly overpowering this close. He was frowning.
“Selkie,” he said, “Were you taken from your family? Has your skin been lost?”
Her skin pricked at the name. It sounded familiar but she couldn’t place where she’d heard it before.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

Fox was slowly led through the halls of the elegant fae court. Multiple fae stare at him curiously as they pass. He lets his mind wander to how he was going to get back to Coruscant isle. But if he doesn’t get back, he doesn’t want to think about the consequences. Even if Lord Vader had thrown him out into the harbor to drown, he needs to take care of the others.
Eventually, the two guards bring him into the throne room. It goes deadly silent as he walks through to stand before the throne.
You look down upon him from your throne and ask, “Where is your seal skin?”
The words freeze in his throat. How could he respond?
“I don’t have one,” Fox says after a moment, and hastily amends, “my Lady.”
The court’s whispers rise like the wind through tree leaves.
“May I ask why I would?” He could feel countless eyes on him even despite his own gaze on the lush ground.
You rise from your throne and descend the steps at its base, coming face to face with him. For Fox, the scent of pine was nearly overpowering this close to you. You frown.
“Selkie,” you say. “Were you taken from your family? Has your skin been lost?”
Fox’s skin pricks at the name. It sounds familiar, but he couldn’t place where he’d heard it before.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” He answers and your heart breaks at the genuine confusion.
“Who are you then?” You ask softly. You reach your hands up toward his face. Fox tenses up and waits for a blow that doesn’t come. Who hurt this man?
“CC-1010. Martial Commander Fox, my Lady.” He recites as you gently brush your thumbs along his cheek bones. He watches you curiously, analyzing.
“You know your a Mer Clone?” He looks very confused, but nods.
“Do you remember the batchmates the Kamino alchemists made you with?” Fox stiffens again after finally seeming to relax a little, but still nods.
“I don’t understand what this…?”
“Commanders Stone is a Merman. Commander Thorn is a siren. And Martial Commander Fox and Commander Thire are Selkies like most of the Coruscant Guard. Who would make your forget what you are?”
Fox’s voice dies in his throat though he’s not sure if it’s of his own volition or another’s. Could he really have forgotten something that important?
Tumblr media
You contact the Sea Alor about who stumbled into your territory. The few members of the guard who escaped the capital and his batchmates were overjoyed to hear news about him and would be there in a few days. With their excitement, it was hard to warn them there was something very wrong with their brother.
There were massive gaps in Fox’s memory along with him missing important general information. He was plagued with nightmares and you often found him walking the grounds rather than sleeping.
This was one such night. You fall instep beside him and you can see the faintest hint of a smile. The purification properties of the court seemed to be helping him at least, but dark magic, especially done by a Sith, is not easily broken.
“He burnt it.” Fox whispers suddenly, stopping in the middle of a passage. It takes your mind a moment to process the information and understand what he was referring to.
“What?” You so badly don’t want it to be true, but the lightning scars that litter his skin prove the Emperor was more than cruel enough to do that.
“He burned…” He swallows; his whole body shaking now. You gently hold his face in your hands and he leans into your touch unlike before. “He had me watch him burn my cloak.”
“Oh, Fox.” You don’t know what else to say as your eyes well up with tears. A few fall from his own.
“I can’t ever return to the sea…” Suddenly, you're hit with the realization that Fox had always thought that something was wrong, but he could fix it later. The guard was often forced to remain in human form so it never really affected his work. Deep down, he had been under the false pretense that one day he would shift like the rest of the Sirens and Mermen.
You feel his knees give out and you quickly grab the sides of his shoulders, gently helping him to a seated position on the ground. Not sure what else to do, you wrap your arms around him and hug him tight. Touch starved, Fox holds you close as he falls apart.

Kelpies and Nuckelavees
Whump Rating: 4/5 (mainly for violence to the monster) TW: Injury, violence and gore to a monster, mention of blood
This AU belongs to @dark-angel-of-muses! It's based on Scottish mythology. Twilight is a kelpie, Legend is a selkie, Wild is a ghost, and Ravio is an ace succubus. I encourage you to check it out; but you shouldn't need further context to enjoy this.
Kelpies have a reputation for danger. They stalk the riverways, luring children and travelers onto their backs to drown them. Wailing from the river heralds incoming storms. They could even summon floods to sweep away travelers.
In Twilight’s opinion, most of the rumors are horse dung. He doesn’t stalk the river, he lives in it. Where else would a kelpie go? Land houses mean little to a water horse. He gives Legend a warning of storms if there’s a shift in the water temperature, but that is common sense, not magic. And summoning floods? He’s never conjured an ounce of extra water in his life.
Twilight is content to live in the river, giving rides to the children who visit the banks. In exchange, they give him gifts and offerings filled with gratitude magic. There is no need to eat human flesh when what they offer freely is so sweet.
In his wolf form, he is free to roam as far as he likes. He generally keeps to visiting Legend’s house; Ravio will scratch his ears in just the right spot, tail winding around his.
Wild keeps him company; as happy out of the water as in. Sometimes he'll drift off to visit Legend alone. Other times, the two will set out along the river, exploring up and down the banks. There are all sorts of interesting magical surprises to find.
Yet no matter how docile he acts—how sweetly he hies his fangs—Twilight is still a kelpie. And when it came to protecting those he loved? There is no challenge he wouldn’t face.
“Have you noticed anyone strange hanging around the shop?” Twilight shakes his head, tossing hair and seaweed out of his face.
“Strange? What do you mean?” Legend tracks Ravio, who has his pelt slung over his shoulders. He’s playing with Wild, although from here it’s unclear what the game is.
“There’s a scent lingering around your house. I noticed it as Wolfie. It doesn’t go into the yard; Hyrule’s puzzles probably scare it off. But it’s thick enough to be a worry.”
“Fae? Hylian?”
Twilight shrugs, shifting a few inches closer to the water. He doesn’t need to be in it, but the call of the river is a low hum along his senses. “Can’t tell. Wanted to see if you noticed anyone hanging around.”
Legend shakes his head. “I haven’t, but I’ll keep an eye out. Thanks for the warning.”
“Of course.”
They stand together, watching Ravio’s tail wave in delight as he picks up rocks along the bank and holds them out to Wild. The selkie softens when Ravio glances back at him and waves. Then the succubus skips up the beach and presses into Legend’s side.
“Hi, Twi! Wild was telling me about some of the exploring you’ve been doing!”
“It’s fun to explore the river bank. This is a deep river for—well, as far as we’ve gone, so there’s plenty to explore. Glaciers carved out these paths eons ago.
Ravio rolls his eyes. “You’re making that up.”
“I swear! Wild told me.”
This gets a flat look from Legend. “And you believe everything Wild tells you?”
Twilight shrugs and grins.
“He told Rav that he should try feeding on lightning to understand how peppers test.”
The kelpie’s smile fades slightly. “I stand by my statement, even if I regret it.”
Wild joins them at the sound of laughter and thoughts of mysterious visitors are forgotten.
The scent is back. Wolfie sniffs as he circles Legend and Ravio’s house. It tingles against his senses, even in this form. The charms and protection spells are slowly layering into a stronger barrier. It won’t keep out everyone, but it’s enough to make a fae think twice about breaking in.
Whoever is leaving this scent certainly knows so. The path circles the property; sometimes dipping closer and sometimes edging away. Yet this time, the scent is strong in his nose as it leads away. Whoever was here left recently.
Wolfie glances at the house one more time, then sets off, nose to the trail. Until now there’s never been a strong enough trail to follow before it’s lost to the overlapping scents of visitors. The trail leads deeper inland and quickly straightens. Whoever this is, they know where they are going.
The countryside is beautiful in the moonlight. The grass under his paws springs back with each step. The air is rich with the lush smell of greenery, along with the path he follows. The scent of a rabbit crosses the path and the wolf pauses for a moment, before continuing.
The trail continues strong, leading ever deeper inland. A faint twinge of worry starts to build. In wolf form, the call of the water is even less than as a human or kelpie. But even a wolfish curse can’t erase the magic of his blood. Water flows through his veins. The further he goes, the more it prickles.
He’s starting to question his decision to come out this far when the scent veers into a dell. Wolfie nearly stumbles over his paws as his body catches up to his nose. Ears pricked, he heads into the dell.
It’s small—just a dip between high hills. A structure is built half into the hillside, made of branches and sticks. Something that might have once been thatch covers the top as a makeshift roof.
It’s…well, hovel is a word that comes to mind. Wolfie tries not to judge people on where they live; not everyone is blessed with cool, clear waters. But this? It reeks of disuse and age. Whoever is living here is a recent addition.
Warily, the wolf creeps up to the entrance. It’s dark inside, even for his eyes. The scent he’s been following is stronger now and it mixes with others. Herbs, old earth, and arcane spells.
Wolfie freezes and looks down. His paw is just inside a magic circle. Hidden under a thin layer of dirt, it now glows faintly with magic as it activates. He pulls back but is unable to move. The spell holds him frozen.
“Well, it seems I’ve caught myself a meal.” From the darkness extends a hand. The arm is too long and—oh, muscles flex over white bone. It has no skin.
Wolfie whines and pulls backward, but his paw is trapped. His muscles tremble with the effort of trying to move.
“None of that. I’ll be taking this bracelet, even if you’ve managed to wrap up a curse with it.” The fingers, too nimble for their size, unhook the silver chain around his paw.
A kelpie’s servitude is tied to the silver bridle of their horse form. When in human form, it sits as a necklace against his breastbone. As a wolf, it forms a bracelet on his paw. The curse hangs from it. The magic is too entangled to unweave and he’s grown used to roaming as a wolf.
The crystal, however, needs to be on his body to keep his wolf form. The moment it’s unlatched, the curse magic releases its grip on his body. The change, unprompted by Wolfie, tears over his limbs. His howl of pain morphs into an equine scream, then a human one.
By the time he’s stuffed back into a body, Twilight is shaking. His hand is still trapped in the magic circle. The kelpie form pulses in the surge of water through his veins, but he’s too far inland. The shift to human was instinctual to protect himself.
The bracelet vanishes into the darkness. A moment later, the magical shackles tied to it lock firmly around his body. The magic under his palm dims, then vanishes. Twilight skitters back on instinct, teeth bared.
Out of the darkness, the creature finally emerges.
