About An Official Spiderverse Artist...

Please do not just scroll past this post; read it.

If you guys follow me on twitter, you probably already know.

But if you dont or still want to read this anyway - here you go:

I aint big, but I got a growing platform that I see as important for me to use as a force for things that matter.

So here I am.

And I got something to say about a certain "artist".

There are so many fucked up people who call themselves artists who are so heavily worshipped by us who both get and or dont get outed in the world for things they do and for their general piss-poor behaviours and persons.

Im here to talk about one in particular (and certainly wont be the last).

There is an artist that basically EVERYONE here has seen art from before, printed in the official Sony artbooks too.

If you have seen this:

Then you have seen this artist before.

His name is Alberto Mielgo. He goes by @/pinkman_himself on twitter.

He is a HUGE part of the art direction and stylisation of the spiderverse movies, if that isnt already obvious. Because he was the former original art director of Into The Spiderverse.

Yes. Former.

Cuz he got "mYsTeRiOuSlY fiReD" from Sony 2 years into pre-production and completely removed from the project.

You may have also seen this character before:

Yes. THAT asian character from Netflix's Love Death + Robots, from the episode "The Witness".

Familiar? Yeah. Because this episode was also made by the same guy, Mielgo.

I aint going to talk about what happens in that episode and hesitate to encourage anyone to watch it - cuz all it basically is is a megalo-misogynistic, assault "glorified for the sake of aRtT", racially fetishised showcase of this crazy makeup/haired bdsm stereotyped asian girl sex worker who essentially gets murdered over and over and over after running for her life completely naked through the city for all of us to see for some fucking reason.

BUt yeah anyways, you can see it in the first pic, but Ill put it here to show more clearly - this here is NOT the character from LDR. But I can understand why you might think so:

Yeah. You read that name in the bottom right corner correctly. This is Peni Parker. His concept art of Peni Parker. A 13 YEAR OLD CHILD. Lookin suspiciously like and dressed as the adult person from LDR with ALSO the crazy hair, make up - WITH AN O-RING CHOKER AND BALL-GAG LIPSTICK (BDSM).

Cuz this man also wrote this on a now-deleted post on his website:

His fucking PROFESSIONAL PORTFOLIO is all of painting and drawing women in very compromising, questionable ways of the VERY SAME WOMEN HE HAD SLEPT WITH THROUGH HIS LIFE.

They look as creepy as they are.

But the scariest part?

While I myself had only just found out about this some days ago as of writing this, some of us have known about this man and his antics for years.

And he keeps getting greenlit by the industry, over and over and over; winning awards, getting respected, praised, admired, even by fellow at-home artists like many of you out there if you dont already do so.

And nothing will happen to him cuz he is a white cishet male artist who has money and a following and connections and influence and power.

So yeah.

I just wanted to talk about a certain official Spiderverse artist to just let yall know there are freaks everywhere, and that no matter how small it is, it's people like me and you who need to do what we can to keep up awareness and warn our communities and protect our most vulnerable.

My suggestion is to take heed of what I said, ask questions about everything you will ever see again from anyone around you, no less the industry, THINK for once, and actually give a fuck.

Keep away.

Do not support this man.

But the decision is ultimately yours.

Jack in my Pouring Rain AU vs Jack in my Sunnyverse AU

Gonna ramble a bit here about the two portrayals, there’s a lot more typing space here so I will also be using my posts as a bit of infodump sometimes! ↓

For starters, I really adore Jack as a design and character, there’s not much I wanted to alter about him in the design department, so all changes are subtle!

✦ Starting with Pouring Rain!Jack!

This guy’s probably the closest to how he’s presented in game honestly— still manipulative, still colorful, probably a bit more deranged because his sunshine keeps forgetting shit.

Art wise, I wanted to really keep the colors on him vibrant, but also give him sort of a dim vibe as well. His hair is a bit more reflective of turquoise highlights with a gradient of a muted darker blue at the tips.

I like to imagine Jack uses colorful knives (if he most certainly has to use one). I have colorful knives in my house, it just seemed right as I was doing the dishes one day. He also changed his paints ever so slightly, because stars are very important to him.

He’s also rather glitchy when upset, but not that of a computer glitch when it happens.. more of like… something that’s being rewinded and re-written over numerous times, no?

Or, maybe I have no idea what I’m talking about!

And finally, the colorful paint on him!

Rain!Jack’s original sunshine way back nowhere was actually a graffiti artist, so does Jack know how to paint? It’s not like he would say, but it is a bit easier to play off a mysterious red stain if you’re covered in all the other colors.

✦ Ending with Sunnyverse!Jack!

Sunnyverse, is quite frankly a bit of a community like idea. The premise being quite similar to the same notion of Spiderverse, where multiple of the characters can exist and vibe but may look different, while still following a canon of sorts. It’s basically like showing off your characters and AUs in your style!

(Honestly, with a name like that, maybe I should draw Spider-Jack… *Sunrise Spider?*)

This Jack is a divergent of the idea where the fictional world of CloudyTown is real. ← This information also is a slight spin-off of an unofficial AU called “Sunny Time Town” by artist Sauce! I will also be using “Sunnyverse” for the official name of my AU that includes my ocs that switch up the story in a non-yandere manner!

SV!Jack here rocks a bowtie and suspenders with the design paying a full tribute to a sketch I did in March! I’ve seen a few comments relating it to his teaching profession… and now I can’t I see it, haha!

To contrast Rain!Jack, SV!Jack’s hair is a nice pure blue gradient that dips into indigo/purple at the tips!

I added his belt as a tie in both of them (don’t ask why the belt is doing a :3), but now I hear the belt is sentient… that’s a cool idea I seen around, I gotta learn about that!

Taking a smol break

Hey guys, nothing big happening or anything here. I'm just going to be taking the next couple weeks to focus on school work since I have a lot to do! So I'll still be active but I won't be posting any new works of mine.

Don't fear, I'll be back around the 18th because classes will be over then! When I get back I have a short story to write, some requests, the next piece of Jaxon lore, and even an event around the 25th so stay tuned for those!

Ticciwork headcanons because I adore them together (also; rant about Clockwork after the hcs)

Since its pretty hard for them to go out on "normal" dates (because of the whole...serial killer thing) their ideal date is going out on little trips through the Forest. They'll set up picnics by lakes, stargaze during the earliest of mornings or the latest of nights, sit together by rivers and watch the water rush by, simple little things like that. Of course, they'll also have the occasional going out to kill an innocent family of five "dates" together.

Clockwork still draws for fun, and she always shows her drawings to Toby. When they first started dating, she was pretty scared of showing them to him (considering how she lost her last boyfriend) but Toby loved them. Seeing how he's also well acquainted with blood, guts, gore, and the smell of rotting flesh, Nat's gore art isn't repulsive or shocking to him.

They aren't too big on pda. Toby's got ADHD and all the sensory issues that come with it, so he doesn't really like being touched in any way. Nat doesn't like being touched because it reminds her of her brother. Instead, they give copious amounts of sweet talk to one another, get each other nice gifts, help each other out when they're having trouble with something, and comfort each other if they're feeling sad or scared.

They don't usually sleep in the same bed, but occasionally will, especially if either of them are going through an episode.

They like to watch movies at home. They will fr kick everyone else out of the Mansion's living room so they can be alone and watch their Adam Sandler movies together

If they were to ever have a child together, they would probably name the kid Quincy because they're both terrible at naming things. (If not Quincy, then Ulysses, Dakota or Morgan)

Before they were dating, it was Toby who caught feelings for Nat first. He thought she was really cool, but that she was way out of his league and wouldn't even think about doing so much as holding his hand. He would endlessly talk about his crush on her to EJ, since he knew that he was the only one who would keep it a secret.

It got so bad EJ eventually said "Just tell her how you feel and be yourself." Toby was so inspired by these words he went up to Nat and said "Hey girl, your ass makes me forget about my dead family." Suffice to say, Nat fell in love instantly.

I really don't like how the fandom portrays Clockwork. I see her being depicted as this stone-cold, tough as nails, ass-kicking, emotionless girlboss who either hates a person or tolerates them, no inbetween. I don't like that characterization at all. Seeing as she was or is canonically dating Toby, and Toby's general personality is pretty much agreed to be "angsty, really odd pyromaniac-adjacent guy who probably watched Spiderverse once and it became his whole personality for like a week," I feel like Natalie should be like, more similar to him, you know?? Like, I feel with the type of person Toby is, he wouldn't like dating someone like the current fanon Clockwork. She seems like the type of be a sarcastic, easygoing person who loves watching those documentaries about how popular bands broke up late at night, not as cold and distant as people portray her as. Idk, that's just me, but I get really frustrated when I see her characterized like this. I NEED her to loosen up! I NEED her to stop being such a hardass! I NEED the fandom's characterization of her to CHANGE!!

Recently I broke up with someone who was a mean drunk. In one of our last fights, when he was blacked out, he called all my paintings bullshit and damaged one of them. I think I can fix it but every time I look at it I think of him, and I'm questioning whether I have any talent. What if everyone is just being nice and they all think my art is bullshit?

i'm so sorry, sweetheart, that was an incredibly vindictive and hurtful thing for him to do and it's totally understandable that it caused you a lot of pain. i'm really proud of you for breaking up with him.

i think there's a lot of things i could say here about trusting your friends and not letting this one asshole ruin everything for you, but i think you're probably smart enough to expect me to say that, so i'm going to try saying something else.

first of all, since the awful thought is in your head, let's entertain the idea for a second - let's say your art IS bullshit and other people don't actually like it.

do YOU like your art? does your art make YOU happy?

you're not a renaissance artist drawing to please your patron, you're not painting portraits for a royal family - you're making YOUR art for YOU. do you enjoy making your art? do feel pride when you complete a piece and see the finished work in your hands? does it make you happy to share it with other people and to dream about the next thing you want to work on? does it feel fulfilling and satisfying to look at your work and know that you MADE that?

if all that's true, then it wouldn't actually matter if your art was "bullshit", because humans don't just make art for other people to admire. the creative process itself is valuable and worth doing, no matter how "ugly" the result.

then there's the fact that "good art" is wildly subjective. let me tell you a secret: i don't really like van gogh's work. i mean, starry night is cool, but every other painting of his i've seen, i just don't really get the hype. i think a lot of them are kind of ugly. i sure as FUCK don't get rothko. practically every day i see a drawing on tumblr with like 10k notes and, to be frank, i think it's hideous. then i see a gorgeous drawing with 200 notes and i'm like, why doesn't this have 10k notes?? i can't watch the spiderverse movies because, even though it's technically genius, the jerky art style really bothers me.

even if 10k people hated your art, 10k more would love it. and even if your closest friend didn't like it, that could simply be because it doesn't match their personal taste.

and lastly... ask yourself if you actually WANT a mean, vindictive drunk to like your art. i mean, i'm pretty proud of my writing, but i'm also pretty proud of who would hate my writing. i don't want miserable assholes to enjoy my craft. a person who hurts other people doesn't like what i do? good. fucking choke on it.

i know, i do, that validation means so much to creators. i know that getting comments and kudos on my fic is a thrill, and makes me more excited to write. i haven't gotten any hate, thank goodness, but i'm sure it'd be really upsetting if i did. and yet, i know that i have to write for me, and that outside validation, while nice, can't be the pillar that props up your creative process. it's too unstable, too easily knocked out from under you.

fuck that guy. your art is yours, and it will only improve the more you do it. create for spite, create for grief, create for love, create for hope. create because you are an artist, and no one gets to take that away from you.

heres my rant for today: (sorry in advance for long post)

i hate how modern art communities have to “fandom-ify” every single new trendy thing literally DAYS (and sometimes even hours) after it drops. i know this is a lot of the same sentiment as those people that just go “popular thing bad” but honestly it really puts me off some medias because i dont want to associate with anyone else who likes it

do we really need a million different fan ocs and aus for EVERYTHING? and like, i know its nothing new, obviously we have the onceler and undertale aus to look back on, but its exhausting at this point because while those communities were presumably genuine, in the present day it just feels like the fandom equivalent to an industry plant. and most people dont even stick with the thing they decide to make their entire personality!!

remember when spiderverse came out and everyone made spidersonas? who can you name thats actually drawn their spidersona more than once? it feels like everyone just trend hops, and yes i know thats how the internet is but its just exhausting especially when it brings down otherwise creative and inspired works

fnaf security breach: everyone makes fnaf aus and glamrock animatronics, then spiderverse as previously mentioned, then welcome home dropped and thats becoming a shitshow with how yall are fandomizing what is essentially a small creator telling their ocs lore in a creative way, and now its happening with digital circus. im so tired of seeing projects that are cool and visually appealing becoming a cesspit of bland, unoriginal aus and piles of fanart only to get dropped when the new shiny comes out

and i wanna elaborate on welcome home for a second because i know damn well if one of these people who makes “daddy dom priest wally is actually the devil” aus had an oc they loved, and someone came along and made their own aus of it in the same way, that person would bitch and cry oc theft. some people dont even change up the characters design, like how entitled do you have to be to essentially just steal someones oc and call it your own? it disgusts me how people are treating clown and honestly i wish they would put the series on indefinite hiatus or complete their story privately to teach these people a lesson

another thing that puts me off is how every piece of media has to have the “fandom daddy” for lack of a better term. glamrock freddy, hobie brown, wally darling, or jax, its all the same thing repackaged; someones gotta be the tumblr sexyman. its so tiring—ESPECIALLY as a lesbian who doesnt really wanna center men in my life at all—to wanna see fanart of the media you like and its only: “heres the one character everyones horny for drawn in a totally different and more sexualized body type” with everyone in the comments salivating over them. i really like digital circus! but all i see are people who would walk across a mile of broken glass just to suck a fart out of jax’ ass. what about the other interesting characters? why does EVERY conversation with popular media have to be about “which guy is the most fuckable” (guy specifically because come on, when has a female character been the highlight of attention; using the previous example have you seen ONE person talking about digital circus that even remembers zooble exists)

it feels like nobody can appreciate work anymore without having to claim some form of ownership over it, to say “hey this thing is so popular and important that it is now a part of my identity!! look at my millions of ocs that i will draw one time and never again!” im just tired of people being unable to passively interact with media they enjoy and everyone seeming to fight over and prove some connection to the things they like

tldr: im tired of everyone in the art community making heaps of fanart, aus, and fan ocs for stuff the second it gets popular and then totally forgetting about it the next time something else gets popular

(and before yall bring up hyperfixations: i am autistic; i understand having so much love for a piece of media for a short while and then dropping it for no reason and its heart shattering; BUT AT THE SAME TIME this pattern is on oxford to me and its on such a large scale that it infects the greater art community as a whole)

That is indeed the nature of media consumer at its finest. I do feel like it is more appearent now due to the way most social media algorithm works. They only show what is trending at the moment, so naturally, we are exposed only to this specific thing until another trend eventually takes over.

Even artists who never create fan content can be influenced to do so by looking at the other artists, be it to dive in along the hype for the popularity of it, for the geniune fun, for the sense of community, and many more reasons.

Here's a little progression of my spiderverse oc :)

I am really proud of the progress I've made on her, especially saying she was made purely because I liked the suit design

So, this was her originally, the actual character hadn't really been thought of yet, I was just mindlessly drawing possible suit designs for various spider people. I really liked this one, so later that day, I drew this:

I really liked the blonde, so I stuck with that and also decided that she was supposed to be from 70's, but you couldn't really tell that from this design, so I decided she obviously needed to be changed some more. Sadly, I don't have any online drawings of this, but I end up making her suit one peice, and ended up removing the vitiligo patches (I am planning on bringing them back into the design I just hadn't thought about it bc I was more worried about her clothes, and I would forget to draw them in the next few drawings). Anyway, I do have a drawing over her and her partner for that spider gala thing, so here's that:

Im hoping to explain both of them later on, but for now I'm just taking purely about her design. Anyway, as you can see I ditched the blonde and went much longer, I also wanted it to look much more Curly instead of just wavy, I'm still trying to make my hair look more realistic, especially type 3 and 4 hair, but I think it looks pretty good for now :) now, moving on to her current design (again there was a few more paper sketches in between, so these changes were a lot less drastic

So, here is Lizzie (Elizabeth)! She is 24, and is spider woman in London during the 1970's. I really like her design, and I think its coming to a stopping point (meaning I'm not going to be changing it much more in the future, not that I'm going to stop drawing her) I'm very happy to start sharing about her and her story more. Also she does need more friends so if anyone wants to do some kind of art trade I'd be happy to do so-

this goes for dp AND spiderverse too many ppl still do not know how to color darker skin tones and draw more diversified black hairstyles. its 2023 there is every imaginable resource and turorial and image out there if you cant at this point its just willful ignorance. i have seen SO MUCH art that would be so good if ppl just cared a lil bit more about what an undertone is

hi guys i watched spiderverse n been playing splatoon 3 a lot so as you can imagine i am farther away from drawing more of my fantroll content LMFAO srry.

now that parp and my era of fansessions is dead and gone i feel like it’s too much of a hassle 2 navigate tumblr n discord stuff bc idk anybody in these circles well n my energy is rarely returned (though i may just b annoying LOL) … so i will probably be posting less art and more oc-core things here! i feel bad bc i wanted to rlly be more active in the ftc but 🫰😵‍💫

WELLL this is a little sillay story ^_^ for spiderman I had an entire character arc because I was introduced to it by my friend who was a huge fan of mcu spidey in 2018 and for SOME reason I decided it was cringe to ask more abt spiderman (I lost all my whimsy in 2018-2019) so I would deny liking spiderman WHILE dropping the least subtle hints that I wanted her to keep telling me more abt spidey. And well that did nawt work out</3 BUT BOOM !! NOW I AM SILLY AND WHIMSICAL AND I CONSUME LOTS OF SPIDEY CONTENT AND LOOVE TO TALK ABT IT ^_^ !!

if I could go back in time and tell my 2018 self 1 thing it would be to get some freaking whimsy and be silly with ur love for mlp and spiderman and whatever the hell and consume more content by urself<3 I am much happier now since I've embraced the silly :3 ALSO PLOT TWIST that friend only ever liked mcu spidey and after she dropped that interest I became the spidey friend for all my friendgroups so ! How the tables turn ^_^ ! And that's about it for interesting stuff </3 everythang else was cuz I consumed it from a young age :3

OHH YIPPEEE BABYYY I LOOVE SPIDERMAN FOR SO SO MANY REASONS ^_^ ONE OF THE LOVELIEST IN MY EYES IS THE COMMUNITY!! ofc firstly it's about what the character represents :3 how everybady has the power to help others and make a great impact in their own communities and can also do so just by being themselves <33 The community of fans all really love this idea and it is SO NICEYS !!! because they will show their love for the character by BEING NICEYS !! BEING KIND TO THEMSELVES AND OTHERS !!! like u know those people who dress up as spiderman and go to events to cheer people up and maybe even raise money for charity :] that's so everythang to me cuz its about helping others.. making others happy anonymously and getting joy from seeing others smile.. bwuh..

Personally Spiderman inspires me to keep my whimsy strong and to be the most niceys I can be to others :3 and their stories (ESPECIALLY E-1048 THE PLAYSTATION GAMDS) always make me smile cuz the in game communities and people are so loving and caring... and I think thats why It's one of my longest standing hyperfixes bcoz spideys are so so lovely and niceys which makes me happy and inspires me to be like that to make others happy too :]

Plus the diversity of spider people is so dear to me bcoz.. That's literally the manifestation of everyone around the world being like. Ohh I can be a hero and help people !! Just like spida man !! And it keeps that idea going stronger too cuz yeah peter parker already makes me wanna be niceys and help others but when i saw SILK... babygirl i dont even know u that well but oh my gosh... u look like me... THAT is insane it really hammers home that idea :3 ditto with most spideys having wildly different backgrounds, which is also cool and interesting bcoz u get to learn abt other cultures and other peoples stories thru spidermen ^_^ the character gives me so much joy and curiosity for the world and for others it's insane!!! Peace and love in the world :D

ALSO I GOTTA MENTION THE ART AND CREATIVE IMPACT FROM THIS COMMUNITY LIKE !! HAVE U SEEEN SPIDERVERSE !! HAVE U SEEN SPIDERMAN PS4 AND PS5 ... HAVE U HEAARD THE SOUNDTRACKS FOR BOTH!! Literally some of the most inspiring and incredible and just soul lifting art has come out of this community and inspired the rest of the world to keep its whimsy strong :] seriously the soundtrack esp for miles morales focused stuff is insane.. makes me feel so happy and inspired everytime ^_^ BOOM I COULD GO ON BUT YAA THATS WHY SPIDERMAN STAYS CLOSE TO MY HEART FOREVERR AND INSPIRES ME!!

💢 What do you NOT like about your hyperfixation? is there something you would want to change about it?

GONNA BE SO HONEST IM JUST A LITTLE GUY AND I LOVE EVERYTHING!! plus my hyperfixes are pretty niceys ,,, spidey, mlpfim, adventure time etc u really cannot go wrong ^_^ the only things I don't like abt them r the things purposely designed to make me dislike them. Like zephyr breeze and King of ooo, and even then it's cool cuz they do serve a purpose and tell important stories :3

Something I would have wanted to change abt mlpfim tho would be seeing chrysalis reform cuz honestly she was . Just being a mom :( she loved her hive and just needed to learn to accept that they really were healthier and happier when they evolved</3 Sawtooth waves on YouTube has an awesome video or two abt this and it's so real. Thorax was way too quick to try to convert all the changelings to adopt pony culture and i think chrysalis would have been a good mom and leader and an important piece of changeling culture if she reformed ^_^ bcoz all the other species have such cool cultures and changelings.. didn't really have any. Which makes sense but yknow !! A girl can dream :3

Sorry I haven’t posted here in awhile, I say that a lot, I know-

Just work mixed with comms has really put me in a burn out, I genuinely enjoy doing comms for people don’t get me wrong, but this particular set has been taking me awhile due to irl work and just general art block these past few weeks.

I’m hoping I can get back on a regular posting schedule once I get all these done, I’ll try to post a doodle here and there if I have the time.

Thank you guys again for just sticking around, I know I’ve asked for a lot of help these past few months and I don’t want to burden anybody.

Especially since it’s been, like, all I’ve posted lately. Other than a few doodles-

So I apologize if that’s been annoying to see on anybody’s feeds, hopefully I’ll be able to get to show more drawings and maybe stuff that isn’t just Sun and Moon for once.

Now, don’t get me wrong, I love the DCA fandom and FNAF Security Breach so much still! But I’d like to draw other things too! Like TOH or, as of recent, spiderverse! And maybe just some original stuff too? I don’t have too many ideas for my own story or universe or anything but I have ocs I’d like to share sometime and maybe develop more!

Anyway, sorry for the rambling, just know I do plan to post more frequently again soon! Thank you guys for your patience and support, it really means so much to me and I can’t say that enough <3
