A God like dance
Scenario: Holding a ginormous feast for the people of Sumeru, you and Nilou make your appearances as the dancers. Little did you know that your devious mind had a great plan, ready to be executed on the spot.
CW: Archon quest spoilers!!~ Probably did not proofread.. again.
A/N: O MY GOD. Guys Im alive! I survived the testweek (though, the results are less pleasant for some subjects~..). I have another exam tomorrow purely for the sake of a Cambridge certificate... So basically, my life has been a mess! (Kinning all Anemo vision holders rn). However, now that I'm slowly getting back on my normal and healthy school pace, I am doing alright! Trying to crank in some fanfics too ;)

"I can't believe the fake God was invited to the celebration party.. How come this even happen?" You looked over to your friend and fellow dancer, Nilou. "The Balladeer? Hmm, I assume it's Greater lord Kusanali's idea." You removed the fabric that covered your face, looking over to the sun that was slowly making its way into the ground. "This great heat is overwhelming.. We should quickly return to the city.. We are dancers, not adventurers." You notified discontent, wiping the pearls of sweat off your forehead. "Well, (Y/n), let's keep our hopes up. At least we've been useful for the Traveler and rest.. The plan worked out eventually!" She smiled kindly to you, making your frown reverse its ways. "I must say, I am pleased with the outcome.. But it's way too warm here. The city has some form of cool breeze." You eventually concluded, on your way to a cart being pulled forth by sumpterbeasts.
"Oh..! What are you doing?" With gracious movements you hopped on board, holding out your hand for the girl and smiled with teeth visible. "It's a lot easier, right? Sir?" You looked over your shoulder as you felt Nilou's hand intertwining with yours, pulling her aboard. "Of course, we're off to Sumeru city (Y/n) and Nilou! Hold on tight." The coachman responded excited, of course.. Your names were known all over Sumeru, the best performers of the land, your reputation was like a golden veil that fell over Sumeru. Eyes observing the desert you were slowly leaving behind, your body rocking back and forth as the cart traversed sandy roads.. You were looking forward to tonight, finally being able to meet that suspicious and human forged deity. As you slowly blinked and avoided sandy winds, Nilou and you reheard the program for tonight, the dances and the freestyle moment where both of you would do anything you like.
The sun slowly set, the theater cozily decorated with diverse decorations which made you feel at home again. Finally being able to put on your dance outfit made you feel relieved, you were wise enough to dress up into other clothes before you would smell sweaty from being tormented by such temperatures.
You finally arrived at the podium, looking around  and observed the crowd of citizens as background  music was already setting the mood. "Dear all..! Thanks for coming, we are very grateful and honored to have you among our midst..!" Nilou begun when the attention had shifting towards you two. But, who could miss the two of you, looking beautiful, colorful and gracious. Dressed with colorful patterns, the stage filled with lights and warm colors. "We hope you'll have a wonderful time here! Please, remember this day as something special!" You continued, the billion dollar smile on your faces made them all cheer and clap in excitement while Nilou and you took on your starting positions. As the music slowly made its presence in the theater, the two of you walked to each other with gentle steps, legs moving along with the beat and hands moving on to the rhythm. It almost seemed as if the entire place was sparkling like crazy, a mixture of beauty and amazing talent seemed to rain down on the people standing there.. Gaping at the two of you as you delivered an amazing dance. While dancing you finally noticed the lot standing right in the center, The Traveler, Al Haitham, Cyno, Dehya.. And this other guy who you didn't particularly knew personally. You and Nilou switched places on the stage, still dancing exactly in sync as your movements were precise and a sight for sore eyes. Calming down everyone, enchanting them and making them all gaze at you was your goal. They were supposed to forget everything, their work, their worries.. This was the final push the people of Sumeru needed according to the two of you.
Your act existed out of something simple yet complicated, you had to guess a lot.. And taking risks was what you were best at, but this mistake would probably leave you embarrassed. Nilou's solo act existed out of a dance and intertwined with her vision she would create a spectacle with a little touch of special effects. You, in fact, were trying something entirely else. This time you wouldn't use your vision, you would be completely independent from it. You would try to make him feel welcome in Sumeru.
With a smile beaming on your face you danced your way to the back of the podium, it was time for Nilou to perform what she was really good at. The lights switched onto her, finally you could observe the crowd in peace. All their eyes sparkled when they saw her, dancing around as it almost seemed as the entire building danced along with her. Her soft face expression when she made a slow turn, facing you for a second, gave you enough courage. You were going to do this correctly.. No doubt necessary! When her dance was over, she subtly gestured you to come forward while still dancing. You made your way in the spotlight again, and this time she faded into the darkness. With a few pirouettes you stood still on the stage, your breath uneven as your hands swayed around. Your eyes fell on the unknown guy, the fake God. At least, that was his alias. You were sure he was something entirely else now. You slowly stepped down the stairs and passed the crowd while keeping your body moving.. With eyes wide open they kept them on you, and with  gentle taps on their shoulders they already moved out of the way for you until you reached the group of hero's. The crowd had made a big circle around you all, a gentle smile on your face while you gazed at the guy himself, he blinked a few times without moving.. frozen on the spot. You saw Dehya poking the Traveler's side, a smirk found on her face as you took the guy's hand and pulled him along with you towards the podium. His entire face turned a bright red shade, you softly chuckled and pulled him close without making everyone realize it wasn't part of the dance. "Relax and follow my steps.." You rapidly whispered into his ear, his hand gently resting in yours as you led him across your territory. Even though Scaramouche had never danced, he seemed like an absolute professional thanks to you. Being engulfed by your radiating skills they did not realize that he took a misstep once or twice, how he almost tripped over his own feet because he forgot that he should've moved to the right.. You were there, correcting him in some kind of way.. It seemed so perfect, as if you had practiced over a hundred times with him for this moment, this night. Your eyes sparkled and so did his, even though he would rather hide it by closing his eyes. But he couldn't, if he knew that he'd get dragged on stage.. He wouldn't even be convinced by The Dendro Archon to come. Well, there he was.. In front of a great dancer and beautiful figure, he didn't even know your name yet.. And you didn't knew his. But still, you were dancing with him and leading him around, whispering what he was supposed to do with 1 word and making it clear with that only. How special you were.
Minutes seemed like seconds, how long was he staring into your eyes again? Star shapes had appeared in them, indicating your mental success for this performance. You smiled once more to Scaramouche, Nilou appearing on stage to cover him up and to give the final dance together with you. He slowly disappeared to the back without you even saying he was supposed to do so, he saw your smile, remembered your smell, felt your aura caressing his own skin.. You turned your head to the crowd again as you gave it your all for the last time tonight. Observing you up close was a great experience, forgetting how detestable he was about the idea of going to such an event, he saw you dancing.. Dancing your heart out, enchanting his mechanic heart without even doing something with him.
Panting the two of you stood in your ending positions, the crowd cheering, clapping and screaming. A performance that would stay in their minds for days, being reminded of such a great starter of the night whenever they'd hear your names or see your faces. You bowed gratefully, waiting for Nilou to say her words before the two of you would leave until you saw some movement in the corner of your eye. You realized, standing on your toes to reach Nilou's ear and whispered something. She giggled and nodded afterwards, you running towards Scaramouche who had been standing there all this time and pulled him behind the curtains.
"Hey! You're being extrmeely rude. I dont even know your name!" He hissed, you stopped running when you were in an safe place to talk peacefully.  "Sorry.. It was an impulsive idea, I know! But.. Atleast you got quite a nice introduction story.. Don't you." Awkwaraly you scratched the back of your neck, your charms didn't disappear even off stage huh? How special. "Oh, I'm (Y/n) by the way..! I think you're the.. One Lord Kusanali talked about if I'm correct? How may I call you?" You asked and looked around the place, the party was just getting started..  You didn't had too long. ".. You can call me The Wanderer, Scaramouche, The Balladeer even. Whatever your heart desires." He muttered, rummaging through some stuff you simply hummed in reply while you tried to find your hair accessories. ".. Sorry, I'm quite busy tonight.. But it was surely fun meeting you, Scaramouche." You quickly flashed him a smile again, standing still on your spot to make sure you'd have eye contact with him once more.
"I assume you'll be at the party out there?"  Scaramouche asked you, slowly walking your way.. Your sparkling presence was something he wanted to approach, to grasp in some way.. "I will.. Nilou and me had decided we'd stay till the end of course, it'll be a fun experience.. As long as I can find my stuff that is, or else I'll be incomplete.." The Wanderer's eyes slightly widened upon hearing your choice of words, incompleteness.  Wasn't he incomplete before? Wasn't he finished a month ago or so, only to be broken down by a God and built up again by his same enemy. "You seem lost in your thoughts, something bothering you?" You asked him out of nowhere, lifting up a few boxes to look under them.. Sadly enough you had no success. "Shouldn't you focus on finding whatever you're supposed to find." He shook his head and tried waving you away, you sighed deeply while placing your hands in your hips and looking around once more. "Well, I can't find it.. So I give up. But your nose scrunched *UP???*, so I wanted to ask if you're okay." You made eye contact with him once again, staring at each other in silence for a bit before you cleared your throat and walked off to another corner. "... I'm fine, you should try to keep your own problems under control." He replied after a while, crossing his arms as he shook his head. You silently chuckled, shrugging your shoulders in casualty. "You can head back already, I wont be doing anything except for searching." You eventually notified, the guy sighed deeply.
"No thanks, I think I'll stay here. I enjoy.. Some peace."

Worn Out Puppet
Tumblr media
→ A Scaramouche and GN!Traveler / Reader fic, takes place sometime after Scaramouche's boss battle.
Warnings: Scaramouche spoilers Characters: Scaramouche, Traveler Word Count: 869
(A/N: I started this prior to the 3.3 update, so I didn't plan for it to align with Wanderer's quest, but it's still canon compliant - 🪄) (A/N #2: I proofread this :] (pees my pants out of sheer amazement) (like a toddler) (on steroids) - 🪞)
Tumblr media
Tired. He’s tired, and you can tell. Anyone could, really, just a single glance at his small, frail body gives away more than he would like to believe. His eyes, devoid of all light, a dull shade of blue that almost looks gray, eyelids almost completely shut, as if he is waiting for a chance to rest. He sits, back straight but his head remains lowered, as if he’s afraid of you.
You know he’s afraid of you.
A fallen soldier, the shell of a young boy robbed of the blissful ignorance that is one’s childhood, instead forced to face reality at its harshest, and pay the price for his own actions. He knew nothing but abandonment and betrayal, his mind having twisted the words to fit every instance of loss. You cannot bring yourself to blame his creator, she who he called his mother, but you can’t blame him for his own actions, either.
Not when he looks at you, ready to accept whatever punishment you would deem fit.
Not when he looks at you, waiting for you to abandon him too.
He doesn’t talk these days, not to you at least. It is a stark contrast to the person you remember fighting in Sumeru, even more so to the boy you met in Mondstadt, the “vagrant from Inazuma.” You can remember his smile, his laugh, and you find yourself missing that part of him. In this state, he truly is like a puppet.
You do recall one conversation you had with him, not long ago.
“Balladeer, are you–”
“Don’t call me that.” His sharp words were nothing but hollow in your ears. You could tell, by the way his voice strained, that he hadn’t spoken much at all.
So, he didn’t want to be the Balladeer anymore? Well, that was fine, you didn’t mind. “What would you like to be called instead?” He gave you no answer.
“Scaramouche?”
“No.” Alright, he was burying that name too. It would be difficult to commit a different name to memory, but his security mattered to you above all else.
But, what to call him…
“...Kuniku–”
“No!” You flinched away, but tried not to show any distress. He crossed his arms over his chest, his body trembling just enough to be noticed by your attentive eyes.
You waited, hoping he would say something else, at least an answer to your question. But alas, he had reached his limit, and the last thing you wanted was to upset him further. “I’ll give you some space,” you muttered, before turning to the door and leaving, careful to shut it behind you as quietly as possible.
You’ve been told of all the trouble he has been causing everyone. He doesn’t talk much, but when he does, he spouts nothing but insults at any of the guards and even Nahida, who’s done nothing but treat him with kindness and hospitality.
He despises humans, and he despises the gods even more. You’re neither.
“You must be so tired,” you say, and his head shoots up. He stares at you with lost eyes, although he is more attentive than before. You give him a warm smile, and he scowls in response.
“So much has happened, don’t you think?”
“Shut up.”
You pause. He glares at you, his eyes glued to you as you take a seat in one of the chairs sitting nearby. This was going to take some time.
“You’re not a bad guy, no matter what some people may say.” To that, he says nothing. You think maybe he intends to ignore you until you leave. But that’s not so bad, is it? At least now, perhaps you’ll get the opportunity to say all the things that have been on your mind these past few months.
His glare settles into a weak stare, and you are reminded of his pitiful state. “I understand you, why you keep fighting. ‘Winning’ is hopeless at this point, you have to know that. But you also know that, if you stop fighting, you’ll have to face your past, and all of those emotions you have buried deep within yourself. But, would–”
“Stop trying, whatever you’re trying to do. All of your efforts will be for nothing.”
“Because you think I’ll leave you, too?”
He doesn’t say anything as he lets his head fall. You watch his feet shift against the carpet for a moment, before turning to the window that stands next to you both. Is this a bad idea? Do you know what you’re doing?
You shake your head, pushing those thoughts away. Maybe, you would admit, you don’t know exactly what you’re doing, but this…child deserves your help.
You sigh. “I know you don’t want to listen to me, but let me tell you this: I am not going to leave you. I won’t abandon you. Even if you won’t let me help you, I will be here for you, whenever you need someone.”
There is nothing more you can offer. If he hates you, fine, but you will keep to your word.
You hear him mutter something, although you’re tempted to believe it was just the wind with how quiet his voice is.
“Thank you, Traveler.”

Okay okay
Just had a thought
I wasn't there for the unreconciled stars event but like
In scaras little cutscene he says it took three betrayals for him to figure out the world is a bunch of lies
So like imagine how fucked it was when he came to the conclusion that the stars were fake, that quite literally the world is a lie and that just solidifies his idea that everything is a lie and you can't trust anything.

SPOILERS!!!!
So Scara's backstory is obviously soul crushingly sad and we all love him so much but I just can't get over how horribly funny it is to me that like... His friend died, okay that's awful, very sad. But his immediate response is "BETRAYAL. Traitor. How could he do this to me, personally? Guess I can't trust anyone."

The one who relived a divine nature

A king was born, the day his eyes fell upon you.. Were you the last one to betray him?  Were you the healer that he needed, the one who would stitch his puppet heart back together. A materialized heart, yet this puppet possessed feelings, emotions and a heart.
Curiousity flickered in your eyes, your hands holding your blanket wrapped around your body as you gazed at the guy himself.. Could he be broken and shattered in pieces? Could he still feel something? Wasn't he a mere.. Puppet? A subject of Ei, the Inazuman guardian who's eyes were only set on eternity? "Drifting away once more, (Y/n)?" You blinked, gaze meeting with his still lively ones. Years later, these sparkling eyes would change into the deepest void you had ever seen, he wouldn't be alive again.. But at your current lifestage, you did not realize any of this.
Hopping off the stone wall covered with moss, you stretched with a smile on your face. "Of course not, I was simply resting my mind, but I am fully awake." While saying so, you placed a hat on top of Scaramouche's head to protect him from the sun. Once more his eyes glittered, shining brighter than the mid day sun.. Oh, how you missed seeing those eyes years later.. Right, you recalled being appointed by the archon's themselves to protect the land of Tevyat in the Archon war, but nobody truly knew your identity. What kind of monster were you? Would they tolerate such an existence? Feared to die, betrayal would follow, a painful revelation. "Let us continue, the road ahead is open." You encouraged, nudging over to the path leading to yet another place to discover and explore. You were always there for him, trying to distract his mind from every kind of evil or sadness, but how hard it was.. The poor guy.
Often you heard the question from Scaramouche himself. "Will you, too, leave me, like all the others? Won't you grow tired of me? Who am I in your eyesight, a monster? A puppet? An emotionless individual with no heart or inner appearance?" You reassured him every single time he asked you, you would not leave his side without any valid reason. If fire would once set aflame the branches you were climbing, in no way you would simply abandon him and leave him hanging on those threads. Earning an honest smile from him every time you calmed his storm like mind made you feel at rest too, but every year that genuine smile grew less and less lively.. Barely even mumbling a word to you once you said you wouldn't leave. If you had to be honest, you were gone more frequently.. Where had you been? When would you return? Would you someday perhaps, stay away for eternity?
"(Y/n), why are you gone so often." Up till this day, you never told him.. But you realized he had probably already noticed, you weren't aging.. Just like him. A case of immortality? It might've been. You shook your head, a comforting smile forming on your face as your eyes shone once again in the sun, shining on the land of Eternity. "A few cases I need to take care of once in a while, but rest assured now.. I will be here till the sun rises. If you open your eyes, you'll see me fighting off your strongest enemies, digging a way through forests and lightening up your ways through the darkness." And with that, cupping his cheek in your hand you tried making direct eye contact.. Heart almost being torn apart seeing that the guy from a hundred years ago had changed so much, not a single smile detectable on his blank face.. Resulting in hugging him tightly, hoping to forget his face once again today. You saw nothing but your Scaramouche completely sunken to the depths of his own sea, only to never see daylight again.. Why? Betrayal? Realization? Exactly those things that he had experienced in life made him feel so done with humans in general, but did you classify as 'human' in his archive? He himself didn't even knew.. If someone had asked him that question he wouldn't even know how to answer it.
But you, oh pathetic liar, were you the last straw? You meant no ill, but your movements and actions were exactly what he expected.. Betrayal. It was nothing to be ashamed of (Y/n), he expected it. His face, oh so priceless, the menacing grin on his face as he stared at you.. No love, no friendship, no feelings to begin with! How dare you even think such a thing. From siding with him to fighting against him because you were ordered to do so, no time to talk it through.. Hah, what a coincidence? Formidable! Truly! You were the one assigned to help this puppet out of its misery, and you messed up. But even by messing up, he noticed your true intentions. Living a lie, he told himself so many times you were just like the others, easily landing a hit on you without any struggle. Were you holding back? What kind of mockery was this..? How dare you?
The smile on your face, blood covering your arms and eye, but still even so.. Telling him you'd see him soon enough, falling on the ground afterwards and laying there without any signs of life.. How dare you..!? Who did you think you were..? You.. were.. Merely.. His best friend.
After decades, he got reminded that he too could in fact cry.. He hated it, but seeing you laying there so incredibly helpless, unconsciousness and bleeding to death. His heart that had been frozen over time, a layer of stone around it, it still beaten for you. His hands made quick work, wrapping your wounds in a bandage you carried with you, making sure you were hydrated well enough, even laying your head on his lap as he observed your youthful face.
"Scaramouche.." The harmony of your voice was enough to make him shudder, trying to catch back his new defined personality, but seeing you there.. He couldn't back out anymore, he never was that new Scaramouche when you were around. "... Sorry.." Lips barely moving, your hand tried finding his', squeezing it once you had found your way to it.. ".. I know." His pride didn't dare him to apologize for hurting you, though his eyes said enough. He couldn't afford to lose his last friend, squeezing your hand he bowed down in such a way your foreheads touched. "... Don't cause too much trouble, we won't venture off for quite a long time.." Your smile always lit up his darkened soul, but returning one would take so much more effort.. He just simply couldn't anymore. ".. I knew that from the start, promises can be made.. But keeping them is an entire other thing." Making sure you were laying comfortable against the stem of a Sakura tree in the shade, he stared once more in your eyes.. You never lost hope or happiness, how did you do it? He never stopped admiring you, his respect never grew less.. How could you? One last kiss, then he'd leave.. A kiss goodbye, what did it actually meant? He didn't question it.. Neither did you. Seeing his blurry figure walk towards the horizon, feeling the stinging pain in your chest of unsatisfactory as you realized you weren't supposed to protect him anymore.. Even better, you COULDNT. Where would he go next? Nobody knew.

I disliked how Scaramouche/Wanderer was initially handled tbh.
Spoilers for Genshin Impact 3.3 ahead, scroll if you want to play for yourself
.
..
….
…..
……
…….
………
………….
Initially though because after a nap, I was reminded that long before leaving Mondstat, Lisa had the traveler hang on to a story book that the Abyss Order wanted to steal. And having reread the book in our inventory it’s pretty safe to say Scaramouche/Wanderer isn’t just a full cop-out on character development
Yes, I I’ll acknowledge that 3.3 archon’s quest is the most round about way to not create new voice lines and force Scaramouche into being playable & it was a very rushed because clearly they retconned his death. It’s very obvious the Genshin devs originally killed him off.
But without true death and reincarnation implied, I think Lisa might have attempted to erase herself or at least done someone to hide memories intentionally just like Nahida did. Nahida says she created a backup of Scaramouche’s past and when regaining the memories of who Scaramouche was, she mentions that actually the Sages created the original file and she modified it into an allegory that matches her own personal style. Which, although very cute and extremely deus ex machina, also means Nahida doesn’t have the knowledge to create true memory back ups, only the Sages do.
That’s going to be a big deal down the road for Teyvat. Why? Lisa is so powerful and great that it’s been implied multiple times she was supposed to be a sage but instead became the Mondstat equivalent to some of the academics. It’s a very quick blink and you miss detail of 3.0-3.2. But the question now remains,
is the book her memories from when she obtained the knowledge that cut her life span short & she turned them into a fairy tale before becoming the librarian of Mondstat - possibly altering the timeline & reincarnating into a state that doesn’t fully remember or
did she steal the copy of her own file the Sages made after escaping Sumeru & intentionally modified them so nobody ever finds out the truth of who she actually is?
The Pale Princess and the Six Pygmies isn’t just a fairy tale and it is strange Lisa has played no role in Sumeru as the Sumerian academic legend and low key sage of Mondstat. And as much as I’d like to think the Sages are a threat no longer, Scaramouche did alter the timeline around his involvement with the Sages so they’re closer to the Fatui & the Doctor than the previous timeline and we have no idea if “meditation in the forest” is a truly severe punishment yet.

Seriously I need to know about that kid
Like did scara adopt him?
Cause I'm assuming in him saying the kid was like him that the kid was also abandoned and like they lived together I'm assuming from scara coming into the house carrying fruits he probably spent hours finding with a smile on his face expecting him to be happy to see them (maybe they were the kids favorite fruits). But like if scara adopted the kid if would make sense in his third betrayal why he was so upset and made his decision to close off his heart. Cause even when he was abandoned or when he was betrayed by the friend (where it was shown his heart was getting ripped out there) scara didn't do that before, like he still had hope in people. Like if that was like his child it would make sense for him to get very upset at him dying rather than breaking a promise. Though I do wonder how the kid died. Like he was laying on a bed of pink flowers and stuff. My first thought was that it was like a censoring of blood, like by replacing it with something more pleasant to look at, but I wouldn't bet my money on it.
But still like makes me curious between the death of the child and joining the fatui how much time was between the two
