She could feel the snow on her lashes, taste it on her lips. It was the taste of Winterfell. The taste of innocence. The taste of dreams. Sansa VII - ASOS
a couple of photos I took haha:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The way it’s written is so dreamy so I wanted to paint Winterfell as this castle in the clouds because, right now, that is exactly what it is for Sansa (and the rest of the Starklings). It feels like that far away place you can run to, for safety, for love, if in nothing but your dreams. I hope all of them come back home soon, it’s waiting, right behind the clouds, right behind their tired eyes.

Can antis like, keep away from Daenerys please?
I'm so tired of seeing people writing out crap that Daenerys will be the villain, Jon is better, she is mad, calling her Danielle, yada yada. Just say you don't like her (because she is ultimately better than your fave) and go.
I'm also tired of seeing people giving the Starks (especially Sansa) her traits. I've seen edits of people making Sansa a Targ, people talking about how she'll get Daenerys' dragons, that Jon will kill Dany for her, etc.
Just keep Daenerys' name out of your mouth if you hate her and can't stand that she is strong, independent, and has an amazing character arc. A majority of Daenerys fans don't like other asoiaf characters, but you hardly see any of them going on a tangent about how much they hate that character. Usually it's us Dany fans defending anti hate against Dany and also defending antis hate on Dany to prop up their own fave (mainly Sansa).
I heavily have a high disdain for show!Sansa (she's alright in the books, not my fave but she's much better compared to the garbage that is her show character). But I don't go out of my way to hate on her, diss her character, write pointless metas about her going "mad", "evil", or "dark". Nor do I see any other Dany fan doing so. We don't hate on Sansa to prop up Dany. We don't give Dany character traits of other characters/Sansa. We don't speculate about how she'll die or get killed or manipulated by another man. It's disgusting.
It's also disgusting seeing anti hate towards Arya. Arya is my second favorite female character in asoiaf. She isn't ugly, she isn't crazy or some violent murderer, she isn't going to be permanently warged into Nymeria and become Sansa's; nor is she going to become Sansa's assigned assassin to kill all her enemies while Sansa and Jon live in lala land. It's not going to happen.
It is so disgusting how a vast majority of Arya and Dany fans don't do half the things their antis/Sansa stans do, yet they go out of their way to bash these wonderful characters to prop up their own fave or to get them out of the way for Sansa or Jon (mainly Jon fans who bash Daenerys to prop Jon up and cheer Jon for killing her).
We can talk about our faves without bashing another character, making metas about them that don't even follow the text, and just being outright nasty.
Do better. Just keep away from Daenerys and Arya.

For a while now I have been wondering what the overall point was of characters like Sandor Clegane and Dontos Hollard being in Sansa’s story and I think I finally figured it out. While it’s true that both of them are false Florians and have betrayed Sansa in different ways, it should be noted that Sansa’s morals and ideals has sparked something in them to help her in some capacity (i.e Sandor saving her in the bread riot & Dontos helping her escape). Both of them are there to establish Sansa has the ability to inspire knightly valor in others. And if Sansa’s ability to inspire that is strong enough to get two alcoholic, disillusioned, broken men to fight for her, then imagine what Sansa can do with it when she inspires the Knights of the Vale to fight for her cause.

is it just me or did grrm really make all the powerful characters in asoiaf women? and yes, even though dany and cersei lost in the end of s8, which makes sansa the only woman with real power as the queen in the north, but let's just think who had more real power, had been successful and not for just one episode or season during the whole show?

Sansa is brave, gentle, and strong. Yes, she should have someone with those qualities to love her, but they are also perfect words to describe her disposition.

Also to comment on the previous asker's tirade: a very interesting thing about Sansa is that she's very genre-aware, but for the wrong genre. Like, in the books, it seems that the world-picture of a great many characters is jaded, cynical, "down-to-earth", "pragmatic". And whoever adopts this view gains power from it. Tyrion, Tywin, Littlefinger, the men of the Watch, the Knights of the Kingsguard, the Hound, the ironmen, Arya... They derive their power from their "awareness" of "how the world works" which revolves around selfishness, fear, greed, death... To an extent, Sansa's fault, to these people, is the fault of her father: thinking she lived in a better world.
She's still the girl raised on courtly love and virtuous knights, and they hate that she doesn't believe in "The Real World". They see her as too stupid to understand that world, or refusing to join it out of selfishness... In both cases denying herself power.
But it's part of what makes her a great character, 1) the tension between how she lives the world and how she wishes the world to be, something which a great many characters have all but given up on 2) the fact that she isn't really interested in power. She plays the game with Littlefinger because there's nothing else to do, but she'd rather be home with her parents at any given time. She wanted to be a queen, but now she wants something more human. And 3) that she's essentially Emma Bovary getting to live the stuff novels are made of, and she doesn't like that either.
But that makes her intolerable to men because she doesn't try to "achieve" stuff, she's not on a mission, she has no goals, not even pleasure. She's just a teenage girl trying to live after losing everything... She's "unproductive" she doesn't respond "optimally" to stuff, she doesn't care about "the grand design" of Littlefinger's schemes. These men think that if they were dropped in the world of Asoiaf they'd become rich warrior-lords from their jadedness, or change history. Sansa not "min/maxing" her life is an insult to them because she scorns their entire value system by existing as a teen girl.
To me, that makes her the most interesting character of them all, because she really is alien from all the other characters. She is watches them caught in the cycles of desire and suffering, ambition and self-destruction, and has yet to participate. Whether she ends up playing or stays removed, the journey to getting there will have been so interesting...
!!!!!! you articulated this so perfectly <3333

I've seen often conversations about the Starks post reunion talking about people they met on their journeys but I haven't seen this topic covered so,
what about Jon and Sansa talking how both are fond of Tyrion Lannister? Sansa talking how he was kind to her, despite the ongoing Lannister vs Stark feud. And then Jon sharing that Tyrion was the first friend he made and that he gave him some good advice. And then both talking about his wit and his unique sense of humour .
Tyrion please hurry up and return to Westeros, there are people there who would like to have a reunion with you!

4 - The Feast pt 2
Tumblr media
Part 5
The Last Velaryon
Tag list @rise-my-angel @cdragons
Lord Eddard and King Robert Baratheon made their way outside of the feast hall. The laughter and loud noise could still be heard when they walked away out of earshot from others to have their conversation. Eddard paused in his steps. "You're grace, what did you wish to talk about?"
"No formalities, Ned. It's about that Velaryon girl." Robert eyed his friend.
Ned asked him. "What concerns you about her?"
"I think I might have made a mistake when I stripped Jaime of his white cloak." The king declared under his breath.
Lord Stark wasn't sure what to make of his words. "What do you mean?"
"I mean the Kingslayer doesn't seem to give a damn about her. He is hiding something. Only problem is I don't really care to find out what." He chuckled.
Ned clicked his tongue. "We cannot judge someone until we know whether they are a man of honor or not. But what does this have to do with you second guessing your own command?"
"I haven't done much research on the Velaryon house but I figured the lord would have fought against the man who basically helped me banish their house."
"If your house is close to being very small I suppose you would do anything to keep it alive." Ned pointed out.
Robert simply nodded his head. "I've been thinking about this, Ned. I am king and seven kingdoms declined loyalty to me so why not use that power to change one declaration I just wrote."
"Your grace, if you mean to go against the Lannister's I don't think that would be wise." Ned warns his friend and king.
Robert scoffs. "I don't care what they pay me not to. I am not blind Ned and I know you just saw it too. There's something between that girl and your son."
"It is a good thought, your grace. But that's all it should remain just a thought. I doubt Robb has even thought of a betrothed yet." Lord Stark shrugged his shoulders knowing his son and his young at heart nature. He was still a boy, even though he was very good at following the lessons he had been taught so far in life.
Robert moved closer to his friend, staring into his eyes with a serious expression. "You're his father. If he hasn't thought of the idea of marrying her then persuade him to. I'll deal with Tywin Lannister when the time comes."
Three years ago - Haelesa's pov
That morning I was dreading more than I care to admit to myself now. It was the day I had to say goodbye to one of my closest Joella Bridges. Picking up the ends of my nightgown I scampered through the hallways until I reached her chambers knocking three times on the door. "Joella, it's me. Open the dang door!"
"Enough with the shouting. We don't want to wake the whole castle staff. Once they're awake I'll have to start packing to leave." She shushed me by tugging me inside her room and quietly yet quickly shutting the door and locking it.
I admitted throwing my arms away from my sides. "I don't want you to leave. Why can't it be if you're lord father isn't dra yet then the man travels to live with the girl."
"I'm going to miss you too, Haelesa and Chezney too of course. But my parents already agreed to it." She opened her arms and we raced to embrace one another.
Her father had married my mother's older sister and so we we're cousins by birth. Now her father had decided to ship her off for marriage....the only real reason this happened was the tale of bettering one's house. And I had done my own research from what I could find on her soon to be new family. "You don't want to marry this man. It's claimed he has a mustache, Joella."
"Yes but I've also been told he is very cheerful." She added on slightly breaking the hug so we could see the other's face.
I made a noise sticking my tongue out to her. "It's still gross thinking you'll be kissing a guy with hair around his mouth...eww, Raynald Westerling!"
"Haelesa stop it okay. I am already nervous enough and your teasing isn't helping." Joella admitted dropping her arms at her sides.
I smiled at my cousin. "I'm just saying, Ella. You'll be kissing a guy with a full beard."
"Okay, let's change the subject. I want you to promise me something." Joella replied.
Taking her hands in mine I asked softly. "What kind of promise?"
"Promise me that even though we will be away from each other that you will tell me off your adventures. Whether they are big or small. If you find love or not. I want to know everything. So send me letters, cousin." She explained to me with that cheeky smile she always had on her face when we got to spend time together.
Squeezing her hands in mine I immediately agreed without hesitation of what she was asking. "Of course. As long as you do the same back to me.
"I promise." She hugs me gently and I wrap my arms around her hugging her with the same level of emotion.
Robb and I were still just silently walking around the abandoned courtyard of Winterfell. Everyone else was still awake enjoying the feast with the royal family. He paused in his steps outside a wooden cage canal looking at me. "I wanted to show you something."
"Show me what?" I questioned him wrapping my arms around myself and I had taken his other fur cloak that he had given earlier on the day.
He undid the locks of the pen and I gasped taking a step back seeing an animal exit the pen. The animal in front of me was a wolf from what I could by the pointy ears and the long wagging fur tail. "This is GreyWind. He is my direwolf." He responded by running his fingers through the wolf's gray coat.
"I've never seen a direwolf before. Where did you find him?" I asked, lowering myself down on a knee reaching forward and petting his fur when he sniffed my hand before I touched him.
Robb stands on the side of the direwolf. "My father had me and my brothers out hunting with him in the woods. Their mother had died and so each of the Stark children got to have their own pup. We just had to take care of them."
"Aww that's sweet. He seems like a good boy." I smiled still, moving my fingers through his fur and he began wagging his tail back and forth.
Robb smiled down at me. He had been enjoying your company from the moment you two had met. He wished he could spend more time with her. But unfortunately he figured that wouldn't get the chance. "I have trained him as best as I could. "
"You really are something, Robb. You'll make a good Lord of Winterfell one day." I praised him getting to my feet not caring about the mud stains on my dress.
He blushed but I couldn't tell how bad it was given that the only light was provided by some burning torches on the walls and the fact that it was completely dark. "You barely know me and you're already giving me praise, Haelesa. I am not sure how to take it. But thank you."
"You're welcome, Robb. Maybe if we're lucky we can know more about each other before I leave in a few days." I smiled, clasping my hands together in front of me.
Footsteps could be heard coming around the corner causing both of us to turn our heads seeing Lady Catelyn rushing over to us. I could see the annoyance in her facial expression. "Robb, you shouldn't have left the feast. This is for the royal family. Why in the seven kingdoms are you out here?"
"I'm sorry, mother. I was simply showing Lady Haelesa my direwolf." Robb apologized to his mother.
Catelyn shifted her head quickly over to me. "You're the Velaryon girl that is supposed to wed the Kingslayer."
"Yes Lady Stark I am. I am sorry if I have made any problems this evening." I bowed my head giving her a small curtsey.
She shakes her head focusing back on her first born son. "I am just here to say that your father went off with the king to talk about something. So you need to go back inside and represent your house in your father's stead."
"Of course, mother." He nodded in understanding, placing GreyWind back inside his cage. He walked past me and his mother glanced over his shoulder back at me. "I'll see you later, Haelesa."
I looked into his brown eyes waving bye to the young boy. "See you later, Robb....uh if you see my friend Chezney,  Lady Stark. Tell her I am retiring for the evening."
"Goodnight, Lady Haelesa." She responded watching me walk away and she could sense that something was between her son and the young woman.
Comments really appreciated ❤️

I was rewatching Game of Thrones...
I was watching Game of Thrones with my friend, and was just reminded that the ending really had no sort of cohesive thought put into it.
Let's start with the North becoming independent.
So, the North going independent really was a dumb decision. It is assumed that winter is still going, I don't think winter would suddenly just end that fast even with the NK having been killed. The North being independent would mean that other Kingdoms would have no obligation to send them resources, food, or men when needed. Meaning if another Kingdom were to suddenly attack the North, they can't call for help from other areas to get more men, and a majority of their men were assumed to have been depleted after the war against the dead. Sansa mentions that she has no resources to feed Dany's army when they arrive (and pretended as though she didn't even know when they were coming, even though Jon had sent her a letter about it); and the glass gardens within Winterfell were likely destroyed from two battles occurring- so where does Sansa plan on obtaining food to feed her people, especially during winter? Not even Bran has an obligation to send her help, and even if he wanted to, he himself likely doesn't have the resources to do so. Highgarden had been sacked previously by the Lannister's, and gold is needed to be spent on rebuilding King's Landing (or apparently focused on building brothels, as Bronn suggests). So how exactly does Sansa plan on ruling her people and getting them through the coming winter, when she has no experience with ruling and the few scenes shown of her looking after Winterfell while Jon is gone, she barely does anything?
Not to mention the fact that considering the North obtained its independence, what's to stop the other kingdoms from declaring for their independence as well? Yara Greyjoy will likely be the first to declare for independence, considering Dany had promised her independence when they allied together. What is also to stop Yara from going after the North? Jon Snow was the one to kill her sworn Queen, and was barely given any sort of consequence for his actions, and the Starks were left in power. As mentioned, the North's armies have been depleted likely from the battle against the dead, and winter will likely be there as well, which means that they can't really afford needed resources and men on fighting against the Ironborn should they decide to go after the North or pillage from it.
Another contender likely to go independent is Dorne. In the show, it was mentioned that Dorne had pledged itself to Dany's side. I doubt they will want to follow the Stark's due to the same reasoning as Yara Greyjoy had- Jon Snow killed their Queen, hardly got any reasonable consequence for it, and the Stark's were left in power. That already leaves two areas independent from the crown. When the other people see Dorne and the Iron Islands go independent, what is to stop them from doing the same? War will likely start because of these independences (Westeros had warred amongst itself before Aegon the Conqueror united the lands). Neither Bran nor Sansa will have any men, supplies, or resources for these wars. And who is to even say that people would want to follow behind Bran being their King? Unlike previous rulers, Bran has no showing for why he should be respected and feared as a ruler to keep others in line, except for the fact that he can see all that goes on. Which isn't really going to stop people from rebelling when he has no actual backing to him; limited men and limited resources. Highgarden, as well, is probably going to be f*cked over from having Bronn as their Lord. Bronn has no experience ruling. His only actions showcased throughout the entire show was fighting, and going to brothels. Already as Master of Coin he is showing he has no concept for ruling and utilizing things wisely, considering he wished to focus the coin on rebuilding brothels of all things, over anything else. Also, what is to stop the Citadel from feeling slighted by Bran and his decisions as King? Samwell Tarly being made maester, when he didn't even finish his training in Oldtown, had stolen valuable items from the Citadel, and has two children with Gilly. The Citadel likely will rebel as well, or refuse to involve themselves with the Crown, considering what Bran had done.
Overall, when you truly put logical sense into the show's ending, it was a shitshow all around. Nothing made sense. And when you apply actual thinking and reasoning to it, you realize just how screwed over Westeros is going to be from this ending. It was said that G.R.R.M plans for Bran to be King, but from the way D&D did it, the ending made no credible sense and had a lot of errors within it as a whole because they can't seem to write a cohesive and good ending without plot holes, character assassination, and stupidity.
I really am crossing my fingers for the books, if they're ever going to be released, because the finality of the show just is... horrible. I would have taken Dany being Queen (even if they had made her 'mad' in the show) over this mess.

SANSA STARK APPRECIATION MONTH + DAY SIX: THE VALE (2)
Sansa Stark went up the mountain, but Alayne Stone is coming down. It was a strange thought. Coming up, Mya had warned her to keep her eyes on the path ahead, she remembered. “Look up, not down,” she said … but that was not possible on the descent. I could close my eyes. The mule knows the way, he has no need of me. But that seemed more something Sansa would have done, that frightened girl. Alayne was an older woman, and bastard brave.

8x01 - The Fire Is Shown When Sansa Doesn't Respond Well to Dany's Compliment
If you look at this scene:
youtube
You'll notice that there is a grate burning next to the open gate when Jon rides into the courtyard. It's low to the ground, not really a huge flame, and there's some smoke coming from it.
Guess where Jon, Dany, and Dany's retinue stops? Right in front of it. Jon doesn't stay for too long, though; he rushes right over to Bran.
Not only is that very telling, but we don't see it too often; our attention is not meant to be called to that fact too much in face of what's going on in the scene. (meaning it's in the background and it's telling us not too subtly what is going on but we should be paying attention to the event of the scene more) Even when the camera shows us Dany and Jorah standing in front of the fire as they watch Jon speaking with the Starks.
When Dany comes forward to be introduced, when the camera is on Dany complimenting Sansa, we see Jorah's torso behind Dany.
Tumblr media
It's only when Sansa answers "Winterfell is yours, Your Grace" that we then see the flames behind Dany.
Tumblr media
The Bran interrupts.
And also another important bit of framing to note:
Tumblr media
Not only is this particular shot important to pay attention to (with Kit's performance, meaning when Dany moves a bit closer to face Sansa after she has already come up to Jon's side, Jon himself moves closer in Sansa's direction; it's subtle but it's there; so not only is he moving away from Dany in this half-step but also closer to Sansa, which is important for what this framing represents & what comes later in the episode with Dany threatening Sansa to Jon) but notice what is behind Dany and Jon. A grate full of firewood that has not been yet lit.
While we saw in this season the fireplaces being used to show us the fire raging within Dany (and how she was going to use it later on in the season), Jon's fear (8x05), and how people were always trying to turn Dany away from it (Jorah in 8x02, Jon in 8x04), they're also showing us in this shot Jon purposefully in the middle between Dany and Sansa. The fact that they chose to show us this important prop behind this purposeful blocking of this shot and scene tells us everything.
Jon is a Targaryen but the fire is not lit behind him. He is not the same as Dany. This is cemented by them choosing to show us the lit fire behind Dany in the moment Sansa offends her by not thanking her for her surface compliment. By Kit's (and Emilia's) subtle movements in this shot, it's cemented that Jon is purposefully putting himself in between the two ladies.
Even from this one shot and one moment in the show, it's apparent that Jon is protecting Sansa, because Sansa is the one that Dany feels threatened by the most in Winterfell. And Sansa is the one Jon will need to choose to protect later in 8x06.
Bonus:
Kit and Emilia masterfully played even this part of the scene (with the grate between them, still unlit):
Tumblr media
Dany has just been told Viserion is now the Night King's and we see this devastates her. In this shot, Dany turns in Jon's direction, not completely, not even really looking at him, but the moment she does, Jon then turns to look at Sansa for confirmation.
They literally chose subtle body movements to show how Jon responded every single time Dany attempted to close the distance between them, even unintentionally. His focus was on his family and the mission at hand. Even during a split second reaction like this one.
And it makes perfect sense why the next time we see Sansa, Jon, and Dany, we see this:
Tumblr media
Jon is in between Dany and Sansa again. Jon and Sansa are on the same page, focusing on preparations for the upcoming battle and leading the North through it. (which is why we get Sansa talking about what she did when hearing the Wall fell and ordering Ned Umber to bring his people to Winterfell & Jon telling the Maester to send ravens to the Night's Watch telling them to come to Winterfell) We see Dany is turned towards the fireplace, the only one standing away from everyone else. She is not facing her people but the fire. She only comes to sit down at the table, facing everyone, when Ned Umber calls her his queen and apologizes.
