Cuddling With Saiyans Headcanons

author's note: i love snuggles. also once again the character banners you see in this post were created by the amazing @actuallysaiyan!! ❤️

pairings: vegeta x fem!reader, goku x fem!reader, broly x fem!reader, gohan x fem!reader

warnings: snuggles, mentions of nightmares, light nsfw if you squint

is not much of a cuddler, obviously

or is that just what he wants you to think?

Vegeta, like all saiyans, runs hot and will keep you warm if you let him

key being, if you let him

he will never initiate snuggle time

but if you pull him in, or simply ask him to, he folds

he'll scoop you up in those beefy arms and hold you just how you like

he personally likes to be the big spoon, but he'll never even admit he likes spooning at all

if you get up or move around at any point in the night, you've lost your snuggle privileges only because he sleeps so heavily that he won't be up to readjust anytime soon

and when he's up, he's at it and going to start the day's training

so consider your options carefully next time you have to pee and his arms are locked so tightly around you that it's squeezing your bladder for dear life

nine times out of ten, you'll wake up to find Vegeta on top of you, shielding your body with his

even during slumber, his top priority is your safety

Vegeta likes to rub the tip of that sharp nose against you, be it the curve of your neck and shoulder or against your cheek

he doesn't know it, but he used to do that to his mother as well when he was a young boy

playing with Vegeta's hair is the one surefire way to get him to sleep when he otherwise has a hard time doing so

don't start humming though, it makes him angry. he'll start muttering about his pride and how lullabies are for babies

he'd like you to keep giving him the sweet forehead kisses though

Goku is the king of snuggling

he's already always down for a nap, so if you need some quality Goku snuggle time, just get in bed and wait a few minutes

literally, he's got a sixth sense for these things

likes to tuck his face into your neck because you smell good, and he likes nuzzling into your natural smell that lies below the artificial scents you wear

runs like a damn furnace, so always make sure to wear a skimpy pajama set, or nothing at all

don't rile him up though or the snuggling is just gonna have to wait

he snores, but he's so soft about it that it doesn't bother you

Goku rarely ever feels particularly down or sad, but sometimes he does and snuggles are a perfect cure

sit on his lap and he'll take it from there, hiding his face in your chest and slipping his arms around you tightly

play with his hair a bit and he's putty in your hands, especially when you massage the top of his scalp with your nails

eventually he'll tell you what's on his mind, and after you talk it out, he's feeling better but very much still wants to cuddle

Goku does not. let. go. until he's had his fill

so DO NOT cuddle with him if you either haven't gone pee in a while or have errands to run later

he'd let go if you asked of course, but not without giving you those pitiful puppy dog eyes

so don't break his poor lil heart and just keep snuggling with him as long as he wants, okay?

nobody ever died from a lil bit of saiyan cuddling, after all

Broly isn't keen on cuddling at the beginning of your relationship

he actually craves comfort, but physical touch is hard for him to accept since the concept is so foreign to him

that being said, being around you is quite the comfort in itself for Broly, so laying in bed with you already works wonders

slowly he warms up to you, like sleeping just a tad closer than even the night before

he can feel the heat from your body, and the backs of his fingers curiously brush against the soft skin of your arm

he takes your hand in his one night, and keeps holding it even after you fall asleep

you're warm and soft and it's all he's ever wanted in his life

from that point on, he quickly warms up to your touch and is a clingy saiyan like no other

his hold is almost too tight, and when you start to wheeze is when you decide it would be in your best interests to ask him to ease up

but goodness he loves to hold you to his large chest, one hand on your hip and the other at the center of your back

Broly unfortunately suffers from nightmares

and though he'd never hurt you intentionally, it's definitely a risk to be near him when he's having a nightmare

there's nothing much you can do but wait it out and soothe him when he wakes up

he appreciates it nonetheless, and as your bond strengthens they become less frequent

Broly holds you like you're a teddy bear, and oftentimes will just scoop you up from your place and hold you

it is not uncommon to wake up completely on top of him and locked in those big arms

he loves to cuddle but doesn't quite know how to ask for it, so he literally will just pick you up and hold you as he pleases

if you tell him no then he will obviously respect that

broly is very big on consent, ever since you taught him just what it is and he realizes how he's been violated of it his entire life

he's a gentle giant, and you've really expected no less from him when it comes to cuddling

his tail will wrap around you as well, keeping you as close as possible

he does snore, but his sleeping face is cute so it's okay

Gohan can be a bit of a loner, as a result of his eventful childhood

so when he met you, he was cautious yet anxious to have a connection with someone not an alien or batshit insane!

so he takes your relationship slow and sweetly, and when you start staying over at his place or vice versa he is so excited

he's always touching you, kissing you, in general just being so damn sweet on you that he's practically buzzing

and he's internally kicking himself for being so clingy, so when bedtime rolls around he lays completely still

no touching at all

and it takes everything in you not to laugh at this silly, adorable man

when you finally roll over into his side and snuggle up to him, he relaxes and kisses your forehead while moving those deceptively strong arms around you

Gohan likes to rub his hands along your back and gently digs his knuckles in circles against any tense spots

he normally will wear a long sleeve shirt and a soft pair of pj pants to bed, but usually takes his shirt off before falling asleep since his blood runs so hot

likes it when you trace the lines of his abs, and that alone sometimes is the only reason he gets some training in

Gohan likes to watch documentaries before bed and takes great pleasure in explaining things you may not understand in greater detail

you, on the other hand, just like the look on his face when he's excited, so that's why you ask so many questions

your extended knowledge for trivia games as a result is just a nice little side effect

sometimes work and research can get to Gohan, and when you can't get him out of the office you resort to sitting on his lap and tucking his face into your chest

Gohan is literally defenseless against it and will have no choice but to relax against you and take a break

he takes after his father and hardly snores at all

not-so-secretly likes to be the little spoon

when Pan is born, they become the ultimate snuggle buddies and you only feel a little left out because they look so damn precious when they're cuddling

you're still Gohan's favorite though, forever and always

Not to sound like Lord Freeza here for a second, but sometimes I legitimately wonder how saiyans experience pain.

Like, they can endure some very hard hits, repel bullets, deflect some extremely powerful ki blasts, etc., but it seems like they also experience pain much like humans do. Goku hates needles. His eyes water when Bulma or Chichi hits him, lol.

My guess is that unless they specifically have their defenses up, they are vulnerable to the same stimuli humans are. As in, Goku feels the sting of a needle when he's not powered up, but the needle might not break his skin if he's SSJ.

Or perhaps they still feel, say, the smarting pain of a slap across the face even when powered up, but it doesn't, like, do the same damage a very hard strike across the face would do to the average human.

So say if Bulma is engaging in some pain play with Vegeta, he probably feels it very similarly to the way a human does. Even if he's powered up somewhat. (He might not bruise as easily, though, if his body doesn't sustain the same level of damage a human body would sustain from, for example, moderate to heavy impact play, but he'd feel the pain in the moment.)

I think also that, while saiyans might experience pain similarly to humans most of the time, they are probably desensitized to it to a certain degree as well. Fighting and getting injured all of the time. Being able to persevere in a battle despite even extreme injuries. But some of this is also dependent on context/personal experience. Like, you can imagine Vegeta might be more used to pushing himself through injuries than Goku might be because of his harsh lifestyle before Earth even if Goku nevertheless has a very high pain tolerance (except for needles, haha).

Dragon Ball Males x reader - Pregnancy HCs

[Reader and (character) are married]

Goku

When you tell him you’re pregnant, he’s confused at first but when he places his hands on your stomach and spends a moment in silence, his eyes widen in realization and he begins to smile

He has a vague understanding of what pregnancy is

Keep in mind that he has two children from his ex-wife, Chi-Chi

Goku was very happy and gives you a large yet gentle hug

He’s excited to be a father again (he loves children even though he isn’t the most responsible with them)

He’s especially happy that he gets to spend even more time with you, his beautiful wife

The pregnancy is long and hard especially when the kid started kicking (remember, this is both Goku’s kid and a half-saiyan so the kicks are strong)

Fortunately, the cravings didn’t get too strange and, much to your husband’s delight, you were very cuddly which meant lots of affection for both of you

When the child is born, they turn out to be a healthy baby boy

Goku couldn’t help but smile when he was holding his newborn son for the first time

“He’s.. so small..” You chuckle softly, tired from giving birth

“Yeah, he would be. He’s just a baby.”

You two decided to name him “Kumo” meaning “Cloud”

“When can I start training him?”

“Goku no.”

Vegeta

When you tell him the big news, he’s shocked, blinking at you as he processes the information

It’s not the first time he’s been told that his wife was pregnant, but it shocks him every time

He hesitantly tried to sense the child growing in your womb, and when he found them, his eyes softened

He slowly approached you, giving you a gentle hug and a kiss

“I’ll protect them with my life. I promise.” He whispers softly as he buries his face into your neck

Even though you were pregnant with Vegeta’s kid, the 9 months were rather easy

Vegeta had little to no problem going and getting whatever you needed to sooth your odd food cravings

Vegeta’s ex-wife, Bulma was more than happy to help you both out when the baby was due

Trunks, your husband’s first born and your step-son, was elated to find out he was going to have another sibling

When you finally gave birth, you presented Vegeta with a beautiful baby girl

He couldn’t hold back a smile as he held her in his arms

She had a full head of black hair and her father’s black eyes, indicating her dominant genes were Saiyan

“Hello, Eschalotte.” He murmured softly letting out a soft purr as he nuzzled his daughter affectionately, causing her to let out a giggle

Gohan

Naturally, he’ll get both happy and nervous when you tell him

Yes, he’s been a father before, but he gets anxious about making sure everything goes smoothly

While he’s not going to be there at your side all the time, having to keep up with work, he’ll do his best to satisfy your needs and make you comfortable

At your word, he’ll rush to the store for food or (if he’s home and not too busy) to cuddle with you

Honestly, he’s a cinnamon roll

When you give birth, he’s surprised to find that he’s the proud father of a little quarter saiyan boy, now lovingly named Daiko (Powerful Light)

He got incredibly emotional and began to cry happy tears

“Th-thank you, (Y/n). I love you so so much.”

He was shook

“Y-you’re pregnant? Are you sure?”

At first you were worried that he was upset with the news but then he reassured you that he was actually happy

He was just making sure you weren’t pulling a prank on him

Lucky for him you weren’t joking

He’s never been a father before and he has no idea what exactly to do

Saiyan pregnancies are handled differently than human pregnancies so everything he knows is just thrown out the window at this point

Needless to say however, he does his best to make sure you’re happy

Expect lots of affection and service during your three trimesters

When your baby bump appears and the child starts kicking, that’s when he starts “talking to the baby”

“Little one, I’m so glad you’re so eager to meet us, but you need more time in there. We want to make sure that you’re nice and strong and healthy so you can take on the world with us. Be nice to mommy, okay?”

Your heart melts every time

When you end up giving birth, it’s through a long and tough labor

Raditz is seriously panicking

However, it was all well worth it to see your saiyan husband’s reaction to the sight of his child in the bassinet

Tears began to fall from his eyes while he tried to hold them back or hide them

He looked so happy and he held his hand out toward his newborn daughter, Rutaba

“She’s so beautiful.. just like her mother..”

Zamasu (Goku Black)

Well, you were certainly nervous when telling him

You knew a bit of his ideal world, a somewhat mortal free place, and that made you nervous about how he would react to what you had to tell him

A half-kai-half-human child, a.k.a. a technical demigod

When you approached him, he looked your way, sensing that you wanted to talk

However, before you could get the words out he smiles and asks how far along you are

You just stand there in shock and confusion

“How.. how did you..?”

“I can sense her energy. She’s rather strong for an embryo.”

“She???”

That’s how you found out that you were pregnant with your and Zamasu’s daughter

For the most part, your strange behavior and cravings during the next nine months didn’t bother him

He did find it occasionally annoying when he was trying to plot his ultimate takeover of the universe and you called for him to grab you some odd food combination that made him cringe in disgust

However, he got over it and pretended like everything was perfectly fine

And thank goodness he did because when the due date finally arrived along with your daughter, he realized that the frustration wasn’t necessary because everything was so perfect

He kissed the forehead of his daughter who stopped crying when he did

“Hello there, Kamiko (Little goddess).”

You couldn’t help but smile as you realized that you never needed to be nervous about being pregnant

You knew he would treat you just right

Every time I see a purring Saiyans headcanon I am once again tempted to use purring for angst lol. Actual cats don’t only purr when they’re happy, sometimes they will purr to self soothe if they’re very stressed or injured or sick. It lends itself nicely to a fic where Vegeta tries to hide that he’s injured and gets outted by purring (or, for bonus angst, it is not interpreted correctly and it’s assumed that he’s happy, same as people don’t realize cats do it when in distress). Or just putting it in a sad and angsty moment, as involuntary self-expression of a need for comfort, almost as bad as crying. Like, I understand why the purring thing gets used for like every nonhuman species ever because it is cute, but it has hidden evil potential and I’m still not bold enough to write any actual angst yet so I’m putting the idea out there in the meantime lol

They are attracted to tall, strong and passionate individuals.. especially if they have a warm welcoming smile and an expressive soothing voice (pleasant to listen to)~ The type that likes to drink tea and enjoys deep conversations. Turnoffs are bored selfish individuals that lack depth/respect/passion; after all, it's why they dislike mortals in the first place!

Do you think saiyans have beauty standards?

all cultures do, to an extent. i don't think beauty matters as much to saiyans like us on earth, as they're a warrior race before anything else. their features don't have much of a wide scope, as all full-blooded saiyans have dark hair and eyes, and their hair doesn't grow out of the shape they're born with. saiyans are first attracted to strength before any physical features, but they definitely have standards; as in, they aren't going to fuck another saiyan they aren't physically attracted to. i don't particularly see saiyans having pageants and their own version of the kardashians, but they do value beauty to certain extents. definitely not super important to them though, and they don't tend to lie awake at night and think of things they'd like to change about themselves, such as nose shape, since things like social media aren't there to be so damaging to their mental health. all in all, saiyans don't pay much attention to things like beauty

Infodump incoming! (Caveat: these are just some fun headcanons, and I love other people's headcanons just as much. I love when there are a million different versions of things so I can enjoy them all and enjoy the content millions of times over!)

Epic Rambling below the cut.

Okay, so. I made up all of this to be background stuff for my Saiyans under Freeza fic. Like a collective memory the characters have that people like Nappa could reference. To give the fic a sense of history and context even if we don't see the saiyan planet. To show how the characters see the world, how they think about things, what they care about, and why.

Basically, I imagine that Vegeta-sei had a handful of "nations" that roughly correspond to different population groups on different parts of the planet. They each have some unique cultural practices, beliefs, fighting styles, etc. Only in the recent(ish) past had their culture become more globalized due to receiving more access to technology from the Planet Trade. So they may have had scouters and whatnot before, but not everyone would have had them. They may have had healing/incubation pods too, but they weren't readily available to most people. All of this is to say that their different cultures wouldn't have converged into a uniform one due to globalization/colonization.

As for the different nations themselves, I imagine that different regions prioritized different things about being saiyan. Or they had different ways of approaching class hierarchies. For example, one nation might center Super Saiyan legends in their cultural consciousness, whereas another might center Oozaru transformation. This is precisely the difference I imagine between the nation that surrounds the royal palace/lands and the nation that houses a population closer to one of the planet's poles:

The royal bloodline bases their claim to power not just on their (supposed) higher latent strength, but also their alleged ancestral ties to saiyans that have become Super Saiyans. And the royals/nobles themselves perpetuate this narrative to consolidate power. Even though it seems pretty apparent that no saiyans have living memory of actually seeing a Super Saiyan---just that there are stories about their might, what they look like, etc. So the royals and everyone around them would be steeped in these legends. And the general culture of nobility, too, would contribute to obsessing over ancestry, power level, etc., where having ties to the royal family grants social status.

But it's not just social status---probably one of the reasons why SSJ legends have such a hold on people is that the Super Saiyans of legend helped them conquer their own planet(s?), won critical battles in the distant past, and perhaps played a sort of "savior" role. They have a sort of spiritual/religious significance. They provide a sort of "ideal" to which any strong, virtuous saiyan should aspire. An avatar for how saiyans construct morality and excellence (beyond just those in power wanting to maintain order and control).

Vegeta references that a Super Saiyan is a warrior with a "cold" or "pure" heart. Some of this is probably his own or his father's spin on the stories he was told as a child. Shutting down his emotions and detaching himself simultaneously from forming any connections as well as from the horrors he was experiencing/committing was certainly a coping strategy for surviving under Freeza. But some of it definitely came from his culture and from saiyan spiritual sensibility generally.

Different translations refer to the heart of the Super Saiyan as "pure," "cold," or even "tranquil." Because "pure of heart" captures a different kind of vibe in a Western mind than it does an Eastern one. It's not about being, like, "morally good" or anything---it's more about being empty, or single of purpose. Unaffected by attachment, and not in the "I don't care about anyone" sense (though it definitely is about that as well in some cases). Think along the lines of nonattachment philosophy you see described in Buddhism, Hinduism, Taoism, or (for a more Western flavor) Stoicism. So you can see how it simultaneously captures the adjectives of "pure" and "cold/tranquil." Or, for a pop culture reference that many will be familiar with, how the Jedi and Star Wars try to stay above attachment to the world and being swayed by personal passions.

And I bring all of this up to make a point about how saiyans might approach virtue. It's more about excellence than it is about doing what is right. So, something done excellently is virtuous, even if it is something humans would consider evil. A virtuous saiyan is someone who is as strong as possible, fights with clearness of purpose, and is unswayed by personal passions. The state of SSJ is a kind of state of enlightenment. (Which puts the differences between Goku and Vegeta on display: Goku is actually more exemplary of someone who fights in this "enlightened" way---purely for the sake of itself---whereas Vegeta is caught up in his emotions in every fucking battle he fights. He hates Kakarot, he hates Freeza. He's always trying to prove something. While Goku isn't trying to prove anything. He's just fighting because fighting is what he does, and he does it excellently.)

Now contrast this with a group of saiyans who prioritize Oozaru transformation more. Instead of trying to detach oneself, imagine leaning into one's passions and becoming a fucking monster. You know, the call of the moon, the bloodlust of the beast. Totally different vibe from the Enlightened Warrior. I find it absolutely fascinating that you have these two competing narratives for how a saiyan shows strength. That they have these two main transformations with these totally different flavors (that are later unified in transformations like SSJ3/4?). And you even see little nods to how saiyans think about their Oozaru transformation. Sometimes it's just about letting loose and being destructive. Other times, different saiyans in canon (such as Vegeta in the Saiyan Saga) seem to turn to it as a last resort. Not their main line of defense; something messy and unbecoming, even.

I'll write more about the saiyan cultures that lean more into Oozaru vs. SSJ in another post about the backstory I've constructed for Vegeta's mom! I headcanon that she belonged to one of these cultures, and that Vegeta's parents followed different traditions. (Also makes the relationship between King Vegeta and Vegeta's mom quite interesting!)

Now about saiyans who remove their tails: So with alllllllll of that said about SSJ vs. Oozaru and the different approaches/philosophies behind them, you can imagine a kind of extremist faction of the SSJ-prioritizing culture that eschews Oozaru transformation altogether as an attempt to strive for excellence only, to be totally pure-hearted, to have no passions whatsoever. And some of them would remove their tails as an expression of their spiritual sensibilities. Perhaps they belong to an ascetic warrior tradition. Tail removal would simultaneously be seen as something scandalous/taboo as well as very serious, as for most saiyans, this removes their access to one of their more powerful transformations (at least for a little while, if the tail eventually grows back).

I don't think King Vegeta would have belonged to this faction even if he would be drawn to some of their philosophies/practices. He probably couldn't remove his tail for social status reasons as well. But I can see him employing some of the tailless saiyans in various corners of his regime. Like, think of what kind of flex it would be to employ ascetic warrior fanatics to positions of, say, law enforcement. As in "these people are going to torture you, and they aren't going to give a single fuck about you or anything else while they are doing it." Because of the nonattachment stuff. People who just follow the will of the heir to the Super Saiyan Legacy and pursue strength/excellence while casting off all else.

I could literally go on and on about this. How these different philosophies shape the characters we know, how the characters twist these narratives to suit their aims or cope with their lives. I know this is super rambly, but I think you get some of the ideas here?

HC : SAIYAN ANATOMY

it makes sense for saiyans to be so human-looking. as a bipedal primate mammalian species, alot of human traits was of course, inevitable. yet they still have distinct enough features compared to humans that they are noticeably different- to not mention the obvious taxonomy that would influence these changes. it's very possible that both humans and saiyans had a common biological ancestor, but split due to numerous factors on their individual planets that lead to saiyans being classified as monkeys and so powerful in the scale of the universe, while humans classified as great apes and so weak in comparison to the scale of the universe. of course just simple taxonomy isn't the only thing that's all different about them.

speaking on their environmental factors, saiyans had to evolve to compensate for the harshness of both planets sadala and vegeta- they had to adapt to the gravity that was considered ten times more dense then galaxy standard gravity. their bodies grew massively in strength- with their muscle tissue and the bones in their skeletal structure growing stronger and denser, which not only made them stronger, but also far more durable then most other races in the universe. they even developed a small regenerative healing factor, as the constantly combative and aggressive nature of the saiyan species required for their bodies to be capable of taking more damage, and to in turn, adapt their bodies to that damages- which lead to the biological enigma that is the zenkai boost.

speaking more on saiyan's durable physiology, saiyans also grew to develop a wider, stockier ribcage- those bones being especially strengthened and dense compared to the rest of the skeletal structure- which leads to a saiyan's unusually wide and heavily built bodies. what these ribs are for is not just increased protection of the torso, but to also protect a saiyan's two hearts. both hearts are in the same area in the upper left of the torso. with the greater heart doing most of the work in pumping oxygen and blood through the body, while the lesser heart is much smaller and connected near the bottom end of the greater heart where it, for the most part, applies the same function to a lesser extent and leeches nutrients and recycles a small amount of waste product that the greater heart produces- which in turn assists in a saiyan's much greater amounts of stamina than other species. another function is serves, is a temporary back-up heart. should a saiyan's heart be punctured, stop working, etc- the second heart will fire up in rapid production, continuing the pumping of blood and oxygen in the brain and body without even a moment of lag in between, though of course to a lesser extent. should a saiyan be given time to recover from this grievance injury, there is potential for the greater heart to repair itself to a degree, though in most cases, the saiyan will die due to blood loss or cardiac failure from the lesser heart not capable of keeping up with the body's functions.

saiyans also sport one of their most distinct monkey-esque qualities- their tails. the tail is essential to the saiyan body plan. it applies extra balance to their heavy frames, acts as an extra limb for either leisure or combat, and provides the gateway into the oozaru transformation as well as true mastery over the super saiyan. the tail is almost fully autonomous, as it is connected to the body through the somatic nervous system, which impacts reflexes. the tail is the limb that has the most nerves in the saiyan body, which leads to it being so sensitive and when untrained, will drastically shut down many other nerve endings within the body once grabbed. yet once the tail is trained, the sensitive nerves become gradually more hardy and durable- no longer leading to paralysis upon being grabbed. the tail will also reflexively maneuver and dodge out of the way of attacks aimed specifically for it, making it quite difficult to cut off and cripple the saiyan.

saiyans also have many other distinct monkey-like attributes. such as massive upper and lower canine teeth, usually around 3 inches in length on the average saiyan, with loose cheek pouches in their mouths to sheath into upon closing. their jaws produce a bite force of around 5500 PSI, much stronger than most species and can easily tear through flesh and bone. their stomachs are strongly acidic with an effective digestive system that allows for the consumption of skin, hair, hooves, horns and bones. this all combined shows that saiyans are adapted for a heavily protein-based diet, yet saiyans are strictly omnivorous and will happily consume fruit and vegetative foods as well. these adaptations impact them greatly when they need to survive on worlds outside of their own- preying upon the local flora, fauna.... and civilized population.

like many other monkey species as well, saiyans have prehensile feet. able to grip, throw and punch with them just as well as they are with their hands. though in most cases, they primarily went unused- as most saiyans wore shoes to protect against the rocky, heated ground and sand from their desert planet.

finally, saiyans gained a very specific evolutionary trait that was gained from their primarily combative life style and hostile environment- slowed aging. saiyan children remain rather small and compact through early childhood well into adolescents- at this time is where the saiyan will eat the most they can and have their body build up as much strength as possible. then on the precipice of young adulthood, the saiyan will drastically grow in both height and strength- on average to about six feet in length. from there they will remain that height and physical appearance for a majority of their lifespan for the next six or seven decades. this is so that the saiyan remains in peak fighting condition for a long period of their lives. though around the ages of 50, a saiyan will begin to have a slow and steady change in their physical appearance in that their hair will slowly change from black to brown in color. this phenomenon is called "browning", and is a signal that the body has begun preparation and adjustment for the final cycle of saiyan life- rapid aging. after a life time of consuming and burning massive amounts of bodily energy, injuries, and scars- at around the ages of 70-80, the saiyan's body drastically lowers its production rate. the second heart stops its functions completely, the fat and nutrients in both bones and muscles have begun to be repurposed for slow energy maintenance in the body, and the brownish-black hair on top of the saiyans hair begins to rapidly grey and turn white over the next few months and years. the saiyan will be unable to even turn super saiyan, as it will apply too much strain on the body- and their power will rapidly decrease downwards until it stabilizes averaging monumentally lower than it was in their prime. it is rare for a saiyan to ever reach this stage in life, as saiyans tend to often die in battl, and those saiyans that do manage to reach this stage are celebrated and revered as legendary warriors of their species, or social pariahs that are shunned for their cowardice for their last few decades.

SAIYAN LORE & CULTURE HEADCANONS #1 - SOCIALIZATION.

In this post, socialization refers to how each Saiyans greet each other, common phrases, and other such things.

HANDSHAKES: THEY DO NOT EXIST.

Instead, Saiyans grip each other by the forearm, and shake roughly/firmly or gently up and down, twice. Three times is pushing it-- reserved for strained bonds or to quietly say "I don't like you", while four shakes is considered mocking/disrespectful. Most times this is done silently, but there can be verbal greetings to accompany this 'arm greeting' (or replace it entirely).

GREETINGS & COMMON SAYINGS.

"May Yamoshi guide you/her/him/your childling/sister/brother [insert other bond/relation here]." This is the Saiyan version of Bless you/May God bless you/Good morning or goodnight. There is a belief system/religion/spirituality amongst the Saiyans, and it is called Yamoshism. Depending on one's philosophical standing, Yamoshi is either a Patron Saint for the Saiyans or the equivalent of an Ascended Master/Saiyan who underwent a process similar to apotheosis. Either way, this is the best thing to hear if you are a Saiyan or carry Saiyan blood as it is usually impossible to utter it maliciously. It denotes a large amount of care and thoughtfulness.

"May Eelnana shine upon you/grace you/smile upon you/your troop, etc." It's the same as above except it involves the Goddess embedded in Yamoshism. Depending on one's philosophical slant, Eelnana either exists as a separate and real entity (hint: Maiz is a believer in this school of thought), or she's purely symbolic. To be told the Goddess of External Power, Inner Strength and Innovation/Change is smiling down upon you and/or guiding you is no small thing to say. This is explicitly saying you are trusted to know what you are doing, and who you must be.

"May our suns rise on you/never set on you." This is the non-religious/non-spiritual version of the above two sayings.

CHILDLINGS & PROPER CONDUCT.

Baby Saiyans are called childlings up until adolescent age (16). Other affectionate names are not translatable into Universal, or other dialects as easily, but the pronunciations are suspiciously similar to the following words: hellspawns, hellhounds, critters and runts. Childlings who stay on the planet are expected to learn hand-eye coordination as soon as they're able to talk. Childlings are who sent away, aka "infiltration babies" are typically abandoned/not talked about until they come back stronger. Until then, they are out of sight, out of mind. Childlings staying on the planet are treated nicer than their weaker counterparts (unless like Maiz, they have a visible birth defect that can impede their ability to fight and defend themselves). In this case, they are pushed harder to overcome their limitations and only then, are they treated with more grace than their counterparts. Outside of that, childlings are typically encouraged to interact with their environment and make connections. If it turns out they're the type of Saiyan who cannot bond easily, this is when they figure that out and plan "ahead." If they can bond, their lives will be a bit easier-- they'll have a second family to fall back on (Team Bardock as an example). However, just because a Saiyan can bond doesn't mean they will get close with everyone. (Ex. Karne was atypical in this regard; she was warm and bubbly on the surface and actively sought out friends, but she was picky about what bonds she wanted. She was insistent on becoming Bardock's first friend* even when he was being difficult. She genuinely loved and doted on Seripa/Fasha, who took over as the more "hot-headed personality" as they both grew up. She ruthlessly killed Artichoke after confirming her pregnancy with Maiz, who she actually wanted. She was emotionally available for her daughter and spoiled her rotten with love and affection. She loved her so much to the point of shoving her into a space pod to save her life during the Genocide). Maiz is the same way, and she's aware of it to varying levels**.

Most Saiyans were either trained to be independent or part of a collective. Individualism spiked post Yamoshi's generation, but especially under Frieza. Incidentally, King Cold didn't do much meddling; he found their ability to work as a collective amusing and intriguing. It was Frieza who took issue and thus, started nitpicking at them little by little until a schism was later created-- one that would give rise to the very thing he feared; a union of Saiyans. (This union and their old, ancient traditions that were taken underground would later give rise to the legend he tried to erase: the Super Saiyan).
