• at the bottom of my coffee cup, where the last sip is too bitter to drink.

• in the loose petals floating in the flower vase, beautiful but long gone.

• in the commotion of the traffic at midnight, this city never sleeps.

• within the eyes of strangers, either brimming with love, longing, or loss.

• inside the walls of this home, which has seen decades of families come in and out of the door.

• behind the mantlepiece, where dust has settled from fighting the winter frost.

• and in your name, which has found a motherland at the tip of my tongue.

ज़िंदगी नाम है कुछ लम्हों का, और उन में भी वही इक लम्हा जिस में दो बोलती आँखें चाय की प्याली से जब उट्ठीं तो दिल में डूबीं

बस यूँही बैठे रहो, हाथ में हाथ लिए ग़म की सौग़ात लिए, गर्मी-ए-जज़्बात लिए

कौन जाने कि उसी लम्हे में, दूर पर्बत पे कहीं बर्फ़ पिघलने ही लगे…

“तुम्हे पता है चन्दर, बर्फ क्यों गिरती है ?”, पम्मी ने पुछा, “शायद...आसमान का दिल पिघल रहा है”, बहुत ‘सोच-विचार’ करके चन्दर ने जवाब दिया|

“ह्म्म…आसमान का भी दिल पिघलता है!”, पम्मी ने चन्दर की टोपी पर जमी बर्फ को झड़काते हुए पुछा, “और तुम्हारा?”

चन्दर ने बर्फीली वादियों से नज़रें हटाकर पम्मी ��ी ओर कर ली | पम्मी की आँखों में उम्मीद की पतली परतों के मंडराते बादल को देख चन्दर ने उसे अपनी हंसी के झोंके से उड़ा दिया |

“मैं बादल नहीं हूँ पम्मी जी |”

कश्मीर के सर्द aesthetics को , और पम्मी के नज़रिये को (kind of)...कहीं कैद करना ही था ❤️❄️ जैसे जैसे समझ आता जा रहा है, वैसे वैसे हर किरदार का नजरिया समझने की उत्सुकता बढ़ती जा रही है |

मैं हिन्दी की वो बेटी हूँ, जिसे उर्दू ने पाला है

अगर हिन्दी की रोटी है, तो उर्दू का निवाला है

मुझे है प्यार दोनों से, मगर ये भी हकीकत है

लता जब लडखडाती है, तो हया ने संभाला है

मैं जब हिन्दी से मिलती हूँ, तो उर्दू साथ आती है

और जब उर्दू से मिलती हूँ, तो हिन्दी घर बुलाती है

मुझे दोनों ही प्यारी है, मैं दोनों की दुलारी हूँ.

इधर हिन्दी-सी माई है, उधर उर्दू-सी खाला है,

यहीं थीं बेटियाँ दोनों, यहीं पे जन्म पाया है.

सियासत ने इन्हें हिन्दू और मसलिम बनाया है.

मुझे दोनों की हालत एक-सी मालूम होती है,

कभी हिन्दी पे बंदिश है, तो कभी उर्दू पे ताला है.

भले अपमान हिन्दी हो, या तौहीन उर्दू की

खुदा की है कसम हर हिज्र, हया ये सह नहीं सकती

मैं दोनों के लिए लडती हूँ, और दावे से कहती हूँ

मेरी हिन्दी भी उत्तम है, मेरी उर्दू भी आला है.

നീണ്ട ഒരു വർഷത്തെ ഇടവേളക്ക് ശേഷമായിരുന്നു അവർ രണ്ട് പേരും കലാലയത്തിന്റെ പടിവാതിൽ ചവിട്ടുന്നത്. അവിചാരിതമായ ആ കണ്ടുമുട്ടലിന് കാലം മുന്പേ കണക്ക് കൂട്ടിയിരുന്നോ എന്നൊന്നും അറിഞ്ഞുകൂട,എങ്കിലും ഒന്നുറപ്പാണ് കാലം അവർക്കായി കാത്തുവെച്ചിരുന്നത് അവർക്ക് അപരിചിതമായ അനുഭവ നിമിഷങ്ങളിരുന്നു...

നല്ലതായിരുന്നോ അതോ ചീത്തയായിരുന്നെന്നോ അവർക്ക് ഇപ്പോഴും വശമില്ല.. അവരെ ഒരുമിപ്പിച്ച്, ഒരു മാലയിൽ മുത്തുകൾ കോർത്തുവെച്ചന്നോണം അവർക്ക് മുമ്പിൽ കാലം വെച്ചു നീട്ടിയ അനുഭങ്ങൾ മാല മുത്തുകൾ വേർതിരിച്ച് എടുക്കുവാൻ സാധിക്കുന്നത് പോലെ വേർതിരിച്ചെടുക്കാൻ അവർക്ക് ഇന്ന് കഴിയുന്നുണ്ട്...

ഭീമാകാരം പോലെ ഉയർത്തി വെച്ച ആ രണ്ട് വലിയ സ്‌പീക്കർ box കളിൽ നിന്നും അന്തരീക്ഷത്തിലേക്ക് പടർന്ന beat കൾക്ക് ഒപ്പം മനസ്സിനെ കുളിർമപ്പെടുത്തി നൃത്തചുവടുകൾക്ക് മാറ്റുകൂട്ടുന്നതിനിടയിൽ ആണ് അവർ ആദ്യമായി കണ്ടുമുട്ടുന്നത്..

തികച്ചും അവിചാരിതമായി കണ്ടുമുട്ടിയ അവർ അപരിചിതരായിരുന്നുവെങ്കിലും, അവരുടെ ആദ്യ നൃത്ത ചുവടുകൾക്ക് പോലും സ്വയം പൊരുത്തപ്പെടാൻ തോന്നിയിരുന്നു..

ഉത്തരം കിട്ടാൻ കൊതിച്ച നിരവധി ചോദ്യങ്ങൾ വരച്ചുവെച്ച ആ രണ്ട് നിഷ്കളങ്കമായ രണ്ട് പുഞ്ചിരികൾ പരസ്പരം പങ്കുവെച്ച് അവർ അന്ന് ആ ഹാൾ വിട്ട് പുറത്ത് പോയി...

അന്ന് അവിടെവെച്ച് പിരിഞ്ഞു പോയെങ്കിലും, കാലം അവരെ രണ്ട് പേരെയും പിന്നീട് അങ്ങോട്ടുള്ള അവരുടെ ജീവിതത്തിൽ പിരിയാൻ സമ്മതിച്ചില്ല. കാലം കാത്തു വെച്ച കാവ്യ നീതി നടപ്പിലാക്കേണ്ടത് കാലത്തിന്റെ ആവിശ്യമല്ലേ...?? പച്ചയായ മനുഷ്യൻ എന്ത് ചെയ്യാൻ കഴിയും (തുടരും )

कल,

एक मां अपनी मां के घर, अपने घर जा रही है

मगर मेरी मां तो कुछ दिन के लिए मुझसे दूर जा रही है

चाहती हूं वो मुझसे दूर न जाए

और ये भी नहीं चाहती की वो मेरे खातिर रुक

अपने घर से दूर ��ो जाए,

मगर मेरा घर मुझसे कुछ दिन के लिए दूर हो रहा है न

किस मुंह से रोकते है उस बेटी को जो अपने बचपन के घर जाने को बेताब है,

सभ्यता से बंधी

चीख उछल नही सकती

इस लिए तो उसके पैरो की पायल और झुमको की खनक उतावली हो रही है

अपने आंगन में चमकने को

अपने आप को जिम्मेदारियों की कड़ी से

कुछ क्षण आज़ाद करने को,

कैसे रोकूं अपनी मां को अपनी मां के घर जाने से,

जो महीने भर अपने घर से दूर हमारे घर को घर बनाती है,

जो बिन कुछ कहे अपने चौखट दिन प्रतिदिन याद करती है,

अपने आंगन में जो ओढ़नी सुखाने को दी थी

अब तक उसके सूखने की राह तकती है,

की कब तूफान थमे,

कब बरसात रुके

और नंगे पांव आंगन में दौड़े,

बचपन की ओढ़नी ओढ़ने को,

इस आस में खोई

मेरी मां को

अपने घर जाने से

कैसे रोकते है।

Tbh the pehla-pehla ‘pyaar’which you experience in your childhood and the love life you get to live after your retirement- that right there is the love in its purest form!

The childhood love doesn’t require any high effort show off, no wrong intentions or physical connection , but filled with pure innocence. You’d try to ask your mom to dress you up better and try your utmost best to look good. Being a young kid- you’d dream about roaming with them in parks or gardens, having an icecream ‘date’ with them. Apna future uske saath bitaane ke liye uska haath maangne ka bhi socha hoga na tumne? Ya yeh socha ki kab woh aake mere se apne dil ki baat bolega/bolegi?

Ab chalo shaadi toh hogayi, sansaar bhi basa liya uss jeevan saathi ke saath. After endless fights during your tender age, you’d eventually realise how many times you’ve said “Tumse toh shaadi karke hi maine galti kardi” to your partner. Now that you’ve finally entered into the post retirement life, you’d start realising that all these fights were worthless yet adorable. You’ll start pampering your partner more by joining them in the household work, helping them to read the sarkaari kaagazein since their vision has slightly deteriorated over the time. Kaafi saari aisi cheezein hai jo tum apne ‘unn/ उन’ 🫣 ke liye karne ko taiyar rahoge.
