RIP Aaron Bushnell
Aaron Bushnell, an active duty Air Force officer, set himself on fire today. He did it in front of the Israeli Embassy in DC to protest the genocide against Gaza & Palestine. He said "I will no longer be complicit in genocide" and set himself on fire. He said, "Free Palestine."
Thank you, Aaron, for doing what our "free" country wasn't brave enough to do: Speak out and against the powers that be.
This act can not be defined as a mental illness problem. to do so would be to water it down into an act that he could not control, when he very clearly stated that this was an act of protest.
To say he didn't have a clear motive, to say his words had no meaning, is DISGUSTING. To ignore his words and his stance is incredibly INSINCERE.
I DO NOT encourage anyone to repeat what he has done, but I implore the people who don't understand to look into the history of the genocide against Gaza & Palestine and learn why "peaceful protest" isn't an option for a lot of people.
When Palestinians peacefully protested, they were gunned done again, and again, and again.
Not to meme or whatever, but Peace was Never an Option.
Again, Rest in Power, Aaron Bushnell, your bravery as an officer in the Air Force and your bravery to do what's right, will forever be remembered. Even if our country refuses to write you in the history books, the people of this country, nay the world, will remember.

Hopefully his wish will come true and Palestine will be free. Aaron Bushnell may your ultimate sacrifice not be in vain. I know you’re not sorry for your sacrifice but I am sorry that it had to come to it and for people to still ignore what you did or even worse people calling you crazy. Anyway.
FREE PALESTINE! FREE PALESTINE!!! 🇵🇸🇵🇸🇵🇸🇵🇸

it does not matter if Aaron is mentally ill or not. It does not change the meaning or importance of his death. disabled peoples lives are not lesser.

I want to say if you think Aaron Bushnell was crazy, he wasn’t. I wouldn’t encourage anyone to repeat what he did, but what he did is very understandable. Especially in comparison to the completely batshit incomprehensible decisions made by our world leaders. He already served in the Air Force, he already knew the possibility of him dying in action. And he did not want to die for his country, when that country leeched off of its civilians in order to fund the mass death of others.
To call that mental illness is to completely misunderstand him and to misunderstand mental illness too. It’s completely disrespectful to him, to his cause, to Palestine and it’s people, and to people actually suffering from mental illness.
Don’t dismiss or forget Aaron Bushnell and the people he died fighting for.
Rest in Peace Aaron Bushnell. Free Palestine 🇵🇸

genuinely wanted to see what the zionist response to Aaron Bushnell’s death would be. I posted this to the r/israel Reddit and it got removed IMMEDIATELY. Just goes to show. I can’t imagine what was wrong with it? You tell me:

This isn’t my usual content but it is important. I haven’t posted a poem in a long time but tonight I felt called to do so. I felt called to write this and share it in order to continue to put light on the horrible atrocities happening in Palestine right now that my government is actively supporting. Aaron Bushnell was an American Air Force member that self immolated in front of the Israeli Embassy in DC yesterday. Before doing so he states he could no longer be complicit in genocide. As he burned, he continued to shout “Free Palestine” until he physically couldn’t make noise anymore. What he did was an extreme form of protest, desperate to make change after realizing what our military that dedicated his life to was truly doing. RIP Aaron and free Palestine 🇵🇸
A Song of Fire and Freedom
Sing a song of fire
As bombs blaze and children scream
Make them hear your ire
A mother’s wails turned to song
A melody that burns the soul
And follows you into bed all night long
Let those who destroy
Be destroyed inside and out
Let those broken souls be deployed
To ravage their every thought
Their days and nights, their dreams and death
Let them not know a moments peace for the suffering they’ve wrought
Sing a song of freedom
Until your vocal cords burn and your breath is smoke
Sing a song of fire
And spark freedom’s blaze

You don’t care about it because it’s happening far away. You don’t think it can happen here.
It did happen here. The “here” you live in only exists because it happened here. You don’t even have to know what country I’m from and it still applies.
It can and will happen again if we don’t take collective action to stop it.
Click here for a curated list of active relief funds. Do your part, no matter how small. Boycott. Make yourself heard, because Israel and its supporters are doing everything to take Palestinians’ voices away. Amplify their voices in every way you can.
EDIT, BECAUSE IT NEEDS TO BE SAID:
Do not message me with links to a personal relief fund. I am poor and homeless. I cannot financially help you. I will not blindly repost links to fundraisers because I do not have the means or free time to properly vet your links for scams.
I am not ignoring you because I am a “performative liberal”. I am ignoring you because I refuse to let a single penny of aid go to a potential scammer. I am sorry but social media is rife with fake fundraisers and I get about ten DMs a day about this, many with a copy/paste script. I can’t possibly vet them all, and scammers depend on this.

if i had a nickel for every time someone self immolated in solidarity with Palestine i’d have two nickels, which isn’t a lot but it’s crazy that it happened twice.
