She drew herself up and out, righteous indignation radiating like a bonfire, causing the dwarfs to back away from what was clearly an unexploded bosom.

The surest way to work up a crusade in favor of some good cause is to promise people they will have a chance of maltreating someone; to be able to destroy with good conscience, to be able to behave badly and call your bad behavior 'righteous indignation'.
—Aldous Huxley, Crome Yellow

I envied the people who judged me. Those who lived their lives in a neat, predictable manner. The right college, the right house, the right time to move to a bigger one. The prescribed number of children, which sometimes is two and other times is three. I would bet that most of those people had not been through one percent of what I had.
Lisa Taddeo, from Animal

他人の不幸や貧困は、何時の時代も娯楽として消費されるのが常だ。 …それもわからぬ暇人だけが、義憤に吹き上がるところまでも含めて。
The misfortunes and poverty of others are always consumed as entertainment in any age. … Including even to the point where only a bored person who doesn't understand it blows up in righteous indignation.

"omg there was only one bed" and if the bed-sharing was familial? if it was platonic?
what about going to a parental figure's room after a nightmare and being comforted late at night?
what about found families cuddling on the couch under lots of blankets?
what about friends showing up at obscene hours of night to crash at their house because it's a safe place for them?
what about siblings sleeping on bunk beds or in separate rooms but end up sharing one bed anyway because they need to know that the other one is safe after a traumatic experience and their other siblings wake up before them and take pictures of them cuddling to tease them later?
what about reluctant found families or reluctant friend groups having to share a bed and as they drift off to sleep, surrounded by these people who they didn't want to get close to but ended up not only caring about, but trusting and relying on, coming to the realization that they would do anything for them???
what about platonic intimacy and being able to rest and rely on your loved ones because you trust them? what about that? huh???

Well with that whole 1519 European man having encountered something resembling 'Hikaru's insides and also that Nounuki-sama might not be what we think it is, time to reveal my theory that there’s actually a ton of ‘Unukis’ around the world.
I think the Unuki as we know it is a piece of the world’s immune system. That when too many impurities are in one area or there’s a tear in the membrane allowing a spill-over, an Unuki develops/is made somehow to halt the infection and consume the impurities. That’s why ‘Hikaru’ is able to destroy them when normally they can’t be; it’s his whole purpose, and he has other mechanisms in under to draw impurities to him to make them easier to consume.
As we know, before Unuki worship, there was plague and famine in the village which caused a lot of deaths, and Kegare is created by contact with death, disease, childbirth, and menstruation... for some reason. Anyway, that’d explain why there’s just so many here and why something needed to come in to clean it all up.
(the true secret of the abortion pills. if you're not pregnant, you're menstruating, which means more Kegare. maybe they were relevant....)
This may also be why ‘Hikaru’ wants to eat Yoshiki’s soul so badly; he’s reading as an impurity (proven by the fact he’s being rejected by a barrier made to keep them out), and so ‘Hikaru’ wants to take him in and destroy him. ‘Hikaru’ may see him as ‘warm’ but it’s probably in the same way a meal is warm and filling— that’s his food, that’s what he wants to eat.
Only thing I don’t really understand is wish granting, but we only have two instances on record of the Unuki granting wishes, one in a storybook and the Hichi wish. All the rest never got granted no matter how many offerings they brought. However, at the same time, wish granting doesn’t seem specific to the Unuki; Kurebayashi’s husband was able to make Iori’s pokemon stronger so unless he had a GameShark in that closet, there’s something more going on.
And also here’s a collection of an lung macrophages cuz they reminded me of ‘Hikaru’s insides:

And also a picture of a resting vs active B-cell. Once it’s activated, it produces more rough ER and Mitochondria, significantly increasing its size:

Yeah, so I think the Nounuki is just a natural part of the world, kind of meant to keep the supernatural and mundane apart. The special thing about 'Hikaru' is that he's what he is now, not that he was once Nounuki-sama.
Will admit these might just all be inspirations for the Nounuki, and he's still Hell itself, but eh- I like it when things that appeared unexplainable at first turn out to be perfectly natural. what can I say lol? And like when you think of the world as a body and every living thing inside it as a cell, it makes even more sense how impurities infect things. It's not that they're lonely- they need hosts, but also cause those hosts to die. Those tears in the membrane are no different than tears in the skin, opening the body to outside pathogens. Makes you wonder what's naturally fixes them; it can't just be on people like Kurebayashi.

Y’all ever think about how none of this would have happened if anyone in the Ushiromiya family took the feelings of children seriously?
Sayo was failed by everyone around her in every respect, but let’s talk specifically about how Genji and Kumasawa effectively aided in the destruction of her life by putting Kinzo’s feelings above the very notion that she may have her own.
Everyone talks about Battler’s leaving the family as his “fight with Rudolf”. What about the part where a preteen boy lost his mother and the person who should have been grieving right alongside him went and got remarried right away to his mistress? Why is Natsuhi the only person who ever considers what Battler must be feeling?
And don’t even get me started on how everyone treats Maria. If anyone ever paid attention to Maria do you think she’d be an accomplice to mass murder-suicide? No, but she’s just ~weird~ and we should all let Rosa slap some sense into her, right?
Like. Fuck. Kids have feelings too. Sorry they’re not pieces on a game board

trying to find a happy medium between 'keeping myself and my followers informed and educated' and 'not dousing myself in so much horrific news that i turn into a doomer' and also 'desparately not trying making this about myself and my own comfort but also knowing that my mental health doesnt exist in a vaccum and succumbing to the everything is bad forever mindset helps absolutely nobody'

as award season approaches, I'm obligated to make my opinion known again: Hi-Fi Rush isn't just game of the year. it's the best game of the past, like, half-decade easily.

I know this isn't going to have any effect on those who feel justified in hating the adaptations they do - all sorts from comic to screen, book to screen, animated to live-action - but in my re-watch of ATLA (animated), I've noticed a lot more 'eeehhh' storytelling than I did in my other watches. Because I'm looking for it to compare specifically how they did it in the animated to how they did it in the live-action.
And let me tell you - the animated story is amazing, phenomenal, one of my favorites ever...and it has storytelling issues.
So maybe, if you were convinced the PJO adaptation was shit, the ATLA adaptation was awful, the Wheel of Time show was a tragedy, try going back and watching/reading the OG LOOKING for things to gripe about. Treat the OG like you treat the adaptation - with the most critical eye for any inconsistency, character work you don't like, plot holes, expositional dialogue, and pacing issues.
LOOK for those issues, and I guarantee you'll find them. Because, let me let you in on a secret: no story is perfect. We love them anyways because the story is still good. It's still meaningful. It still has merit.
Imagine the OG is actually the adaptation and (if you're able to honestly do that) you'll find things the adaptation did better.
Again, I know the people who've made it their personality to hate all adaptations and pretend they're storytelling geniuses who know best aren't going to pay attention to this, but idk, maybe one person will? Or for us more forgiving watchers, we'll be able to catch ourselves if we start to make some uncharitable, knee-jerk arguments about certain pieces of media.
Idk, just try it maybe.

the racial myth of the crying white woman is so funny to me because imagine constructing a rigid and oppressive system of racial norms that heavily polices the conduct of black AND white people to uphold an equally rigid and oppressive racial hierarchy, socializing white children into the belief that black people exist to serve them and that all black people are automatically beneath them, structuring society materially so that this is true in practice, etc, but in order to enforce these norms and inflict punishment, white women first have to give the best performance of an actress in a leading role in a major motion picture. please read an actual book and stop understanding the history of race in this country through the lens of white supremacist sensationalism and male supremacist apologia for abusive behavior

Sorry not to drag you back out of your carefully curated dashboard but Blood Libel?!?!
Like I knew a lot of people were using the fact that War is Hell, and Hamas cheerfully hiding behind the Geneva convention to hurt civilians to let their antisemitism run rampant, but we've gotten back around to blood libel?!
the original post never crossed my dash so. I only saw the post debunking it, but it was enough. I choose to believe the OP only had 17 notes and the majority of leftist tumblr knows better
