Zilvra and Rhuna meeting the Blade of Frontiers together—it’s a good thing the ever nosey and sociable Rhuna invited herself along on Zilvra’s adventure is travelling with Zilvra, or else Zilvra would not be interacting with the plot much at all 😂

Rhue Surana
I submitted this for a challenge using the Strangefate/Rogue background with my girl. I wasnt chosen, something about the hair.
I didnt brush it out in post, and the option I was shown looked more like 80's yuppy mom going to a Whitesnake concert. Nothing wrong with yuppies, mothers, or Whitesnake, it just wasnt a style suited for this particular character. I adjusted her hair within Daz before the render, to fall more naturally, but eh. I like her hair, I like how it looks. It's not meant to look styled and perfectly coiffed. Her hair isnt even in the top 10 of things she is thinking about in any given day.
Anyway, I did a bunch of shit in post and really liked how this turned out, even if it wasnt accepted in the challenge.

WIP Whenever
I was tagged by @cleverblackcat this week to share something I'm working on. Thank you, my friend!
This is the hiddenline wireframe view of a simple scene I've been working on in the downtime between the six fanarts (still doing them and hoped to have another finished, but migraine took me out last night/this morning x.x). Hellendil loves thestrals, so I really wanted to render him with one. Maybe I'll do another later that isn't as similar to my Baerith and snowlion render, but Hellendil does go to it for comfort.
Tagging @oxygenforthewicked, @kemvee, @iredara, @pookydraws, @rhunae, @raflesia65, @fantasy-art-room and anyone else who sees this and wants to share! And, as always, no pressure!

Siege in Superspace
Tumblr media
Star Trek #22
Dense with detail.
"The Enterprise has passed through a black hole ... and lies stranded in superspace. Dr. McCoy, Lt. Uhura and myself have been escorted to Caeminion, now besieged by an army of vegetable-metalloid monsters..."
Both the science and the plotting is highly dubious in this one. Nothing that happens to the Enterprise makes much sense. Other than serving as bookends to the adventure, the black hole scenes add nothing.
The adventure itself concerns ridiculous-looking Vegetable Men attacking pacifists. Their desire to avoid using weapons is one of the better elements of the story. But the coincidental significance of the bracelet worn by Rhuna (the woman Kirk is with) is silly.
On Sale Date: November 15, 1973.

🦇 Threads That Bind Book Review 🦇
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
❝ The firstborn was the spinner, who could weave new threads. The second was the drawer; she could elongate or shorten a thread, intensifying or weakening the corresponding feeling. And the youngest was the cutter, able to cut whatever thread she desired, even life threads. ❞
❝ There is violence in kindness, and kindness in violence. ❞
❝ "I think the people we love can be cruel. Our love doesn't absolve them. Nor should it. ❞
❓ #QOTD Do you believe in fate? What Greek deity is your favorite? ❓ 🦇 Io Ora is the youngest of three sisters, each a descendant of the Fates: one to weave, one to draw, and one to cut the threads that connect people to the things they love and to life itself. When she learns someone is abducting women, cleaving their life threads, and setting them loose as wraiths to exact revenge, Io puts her skills as a private investigator to work. The half-sunken city of Alante is filled with descendants of the Greek gods, leaving Io with a long list of powerful suspects. Can she work alongside Edei Rhuna, the boy she shares a fate-thread with, to unveil secrets in the darkest corners of Alante?
💜 Oh. My. Goddess. I've struggled for two days to put my thoughts to page. This book hangover is going to haunt me for a MONTH. Kika Hatzopoulou wove a spell-binding world inspired by Greek mythology, lore, and above all else, sisterhood. Every thin thread (pun intended) Io follows connects to another; no page is wasted, no detail unnecessary. This captivating tale of family betrayal, fate, political power, and societal inequality snares readers from Io's first page and keeps them enthralled to the bitter end. Hatzopoulou uses her well-developed characters, vivid world-building, and carefully plotted murder to give us so much more than a mythology retelling or mystery. This fast-paced YA novel features an innovative culture and history unlike anything we've seen in mythology-inspired masterpieces before it. As someone who wrote her own mystery and mythology retelling in the past, I can only hope to reach Hatzopoulou's level. Io is a real, raw protagonist with faults and scars, making her all more realistic even in such a magical setting.
🦇 Despite having annotated this book more than any other in the past year, I do think there's room for growth in Hatzopoulou's prose. A certain amount of poetic prose would contribute to the mythical magic of Hatzopoulou's world, captivating readers even more. I know I'm nitpicking, but a few word choice changes could have made all the difference. This is a stunning debut, though, and a fantasy novel you CAN'T miss this year. My only other issue was the antagonist's reveal. We're given the mastermind's name, but when they walk into the room, Io skims them from the floor up, then names them again. Removing the antagonist's name and focusing on the description (showing, rather than telling) would have made for a stronger reveal. There are a few pages where Io's narration runs in circles, repeating details as she works to solve the mystery. Repeating certain details ensures readers are on track, piecing together the clues as Io does, but there's more than one occurrence when it's unnecessary. Beyond that, this is a powerful debut with the potential for a wow-worthy sequel or series.
🦇 Recommended to fans of Lore, Song of Achilles, or any mythology retelling. An engaging read for fans of Sherlock Holmes or Nancy Drew who love unraveling a good mystery.
🧵 Greek Mythology 🪡 Soulmates ✂️ Murder Mystery 🪡 Sisterhood 🧵 Prejudice / Equality / Social Change
🦇 Major thanks to the author and publisher for providing an ARC of this book via Netgalley. 🥰 This does not affect my opinion regarding the book.

Famously known for their intimidating (for the hatchlings at least) rendition of the Rhyme King, the primary antagonist in the show Cinder and the Endless Winter. Outside of his role, Rhuna is a, uh... pretty chill guy. Gregarious and supportive in his own quiet way, they're the backbone of their little acting troupe.

read my full review of threads that bind by kika hatzopoulou here.
In a world where the children of the gods inherit their powers, a descendant of the Greek Fates must solve a series of impossible murders to save her sisters, her soulmate, and her city.
Descendants of the Fates are always born in threes: one to weave, one to draw, and one to cut the threads that connect people to the things they love and to life itself. The Ora sisters are no exception. Io, the youngest, uses her Fate-born abilities as a private investigator in the half-sunken city of Alante.
But her latest job leads her to a horrific discovery: somebody is abducting women, maiming their life-threads, and setting the resulting wraiths loose in the city to kill. To find the culprit, she must work alongside Edei Rhuna, the right hand of the infamous Mob Queen—and the boy with whom she shares a rare fate-thread linking them as soul mates before they’ve even met.
But the investigation turns personal when Io’s estranged oldest sister turns up on the arm of her best suspect. Amid unveiled secrets from her past and her growing feelings for Edei, Io must follow clues through the city’s darkest corners and unearth a conspiracy that involves some of the city’s most powerful players—before destruction comes to her own doorstep.
my review:
Much like everyone else, I’m a big fan of Greek mythology-inspired books, so when I first read the summary for this book, I knew I had to read it! The worldbuilding sounded really interesting, and I’m a sucker for the soulmates trope. In Threads That Bind, a descendant of the Three Fates must solve a deadly mystery alongside her fated soulmate.
Io Ora is a fate cutter; she and her two sisters are descendants of the Three Fates, with each of them inheriting the gods’ powers. She uses her powers to hunt down people for her job as a private investigator. One day when she’s on a job, she encounters a woman whose life thread is severed yet is alive—which shouldn’t be possible. From there, she is roped into investigating this mystery by Bianca, the mob queen who runs the Silts. She sends along Edei, her second-in-command and coincidentally Io’s soulmate that she’s avoided for her entire life, to aid in uncovering the mystery. As Io and Edei follow different leads, they come closer and closer to uncovering a deadly conspiracy.
The worldbuilding was very interesting. It took a little for me to get into it, but then once I was more immersed in it, I understood everything a lot more. In this world, descendants of different gods—not just Greek, but also from other regions, like Egypt—inherit some of their powers. The caveat is that this is only true of gods with siblings; the descendants also similarly have the same number of siblings, and each person inherits one god’s power.

WIP Wednesday
Tagged by the lovely @paraparadigm (consider yourself tagged right back 😉). I will also tag @beckily @rhunae @calwyne @ironbullsmissingeye and anyone else of my mutuals that might be writing, arting, or otherwise being creative these days!
I actually have writing to share! From a future chapter of The Sleeping Dwemer’s Guide to Tamriel (what can I say, I love the Khajiit):
Do’Vasaasha looked at Kara, who sat contentedly in the middle of the kitchen table, with a puzzled look on his face. At least, I thought that’s what the expression was, based on the few limited interactions I had had previously with Khajiit. Kara’s tail started to twitch in agitation. She let out a low growl and I looked at her with sudden concern. Did she think that the Khajiit in front of her was a predator looking to eat her or perhaps she was picking up on my guest’s discomfort? I moved closer to intervene.
“I’m sorry, is it offensive to the Khajiit that we… uh, keep house-cats?”
“No, particularly when this one can see how well you care for it. However, there is something you should know.” He pointed at the cat. “Your cat—”
Kara’s warning growl escalated into a loud yowl, interrupting him effectively, as much as the swat with her paw—claws fully extended—did. She took off like a shot out the open front door.

Review:
in a world where children of the gods inherit their powers, a descendant of the Greek fates finds herself trying to solve a series of impossible murders in order to save her sisters, her soulmate, and her city. Io is the youngest sister of three, she is a descendant of the Fates, and she is a cutter. She cuts the threads that connect people to things they love and to life itself. Io has always wanted to find her soulmate, the one true love thread that connects them... yet when she discovers he already has a girlfriend she is determined to never think of him again, to the point of considering severing the thread. Io’s job means she is a P.I. essentially, she watches people and cuts threads for her clients. Yet on her latest job she is attacked by a wraith, and soon she finds herself being forced to work alongside her soulmate... Edei Rhuna, the right hand of the infamous Mob Queen, and the very boy who shares her fate thread. Io tries to keep things professional as possible with Edei since he has a girlfriend but she can’t help feeling more for him. The investigation gets even more personal when her eldest sister returns home after two years on the arms of the prime suspect in her investigation. Soon Io finds herself in the middle of a dark conspiracy and a dangerous game of the gods, who can she trust and who is really behind all the deaths? To complicate things her feelings for Edei are growing and if Io doesn’t get a handle on things everything will fall apart. With betrayals on the horizon and hearts about to break. can Io save everyone she loves before it’s too late? This one had an interesting start but kind of fell flat for me. I was really interested in the premise and I do enjoy a good murder mystery, but I found the story itself to feel a bit anticlimactic. I didn’t really care for the relationship and angst between Io and Edei and honestly would have preferred if she cut the thread and just moved on and focused on the mystery and family drama. Edei didn’t really give me much as a love interest. I am interested to see where the next book goes with the mystery and how everything goes for Io after the ending of this book. Overall if you are interested in young adult fantasy stories with mystery and contemporary settings give it a go.
*SPOILER*
Io found out that the person orchestrating this was her eldest sister who was working under the gods. They had turned Bianca ( queen of the mob) into a wraith, and Ava (io’s youngest sister and Bianca’s girlfriend) betrayed them. Io is prophecized to destroy the entire world. Edei and Io acknowledge that they both know about their thread and Edei says he doesn’t want to follow the thread and that what is between them could be only because of the thread and he wants the choice. Yet they part ways after he is injured and he says he’ll find her when he’s better (? seriously dude ) Io and Bianca strike up a deal to investigate and fight and take down the gods together to get revenge.
*Thanks Netgalley and PENGUIN GROUP Penguin Young Readers Group, Razorbill for sending me an arc in exchange for an honest review*

Finally made that other Tav based on this post
Went with archfey and based the whole story on the Näcken/Nøkken/The Neck/Nixie?? Basically this is Corwynn. They were destined to be a bard, but due to some mighty hubris, he thought it'd be a good idea to pick up some fey music skills, and it bit him in the ass. Now they can no longer sing, or play any music until thee fulfill the conditions set for him.

A Dragon Age version of Hellelil and Hildebrand, the Meeting on the Turret Stairs by Frederic William Burton, starring Rhunae Surana and Duncan.
(I really did try to add the long sleeves on her, but they just wouldnt behave the way I needed them too, so I had to remove them.)
I used Glaze* on the right side. I had Glaze in mind when I did the post work in Gimp, so I actually like the glaze treatment with this because it feels intended. And not so obvious.
