I was thinking about the line “don’t hesitate to ask if you have any more questions about love” and how that could be brought up again in season 3.

I imagine Muriel (who witnessed the divorce) would start asking Crowley questions about love. At first, Crowley would be like “you’re crossing a line- mind your business,” but eventually entertain Muriel’s curiosity because 1) even he realizes he needs to talk to someone 2) they grow fond of Muriel and are able to bond with them out of more than just convinience and necessity 3) and most importantly, Crowley knows better than to punish an angel for asking questions.

In all seriousness, the non binary representation in this season is probably the best nonbinary representation I have ever seen in media.

Starting from Aziraphale not assuming Muriels pronouns and referring to them with they/them like it's the most normal thing in the world.

To Crowley (and Shax) using Beelzebubs pronouns so so so effortlessly.

No major talks like "What do you mean they?""I'm not a he/she I'm a they.""Huh? A what?" "Mom, dad *major inhale with tears streaming down their face* I'm non binary"

No "I'm non binary and it is so so so difficult whatever will I do with my life."

Beelzebub not needing to correct or remind anyone of their pronouns.

Misgendering being completely defenestrated

Non binary people being in the background and also being in the spotlight

Non binary people actually having personalities, feelings, thoughts and their own problems and not just being there for the character progression of cis people. (Or as a cash grab)

Just non binary people naturally existing. It's beautiful.

Edit: ALSO one of the two main characters (the two BOTH being actually non binary, like dafuq? You don't have that ANYWHERE else) outwardly stating they're non binary in a very casual and not at all heavy way

And the different types of non binary being recognised. He/him Crowley and Aziraphale, they/them Beels, Saraqael and the magic shopkeepers' spouse (both of whom are polyamorous!), she/they God, he/they Satan etc.

Nightmares and Daydreams

!! SPOILERS FOR ASRA ROUTE !!

A.N. : my first ever writing piece published publically. And ofc it had to be asra <3 the loml. Inspired by @/vesuviaweekly 's weekly prompt 'Nightmares and Daydreams' .Could also be considered a piece inspired from the ongoing prompt 'The things that changed' but I will probably revisit the prompt via another piece. Will be tagging it for both , just to be safe. VERY heavy on headcanons (I can't even distinguish between the canon facts and the facts i headcanon anymore). ← to the point it may be ooc . Anyways , the MC here will share my MC's origin story (this is to make me write faster , motivation go brrr) but will be referred to as MC only and will use they/them pronouns. This post will specifically target dreams of asra . I will (possibly) make another post in future involving dreams of my MC (Riku). Trying different writing styles in the same post. Is that a good idea ? Probably not . Would i still do it? Of course.

Nightmares :

• (Before meeting MC) His nightmares followed similar themes. Some of these included the glimpses of his childhood , with his parents and suddenly they are leaving. His childhood home crumbling to floor. Him getting in trouble while playing on docks . Sometimes it included Muriel - his new friend. The visions of Muriel , too, disappearing some day or being disappointed in him in some way were a great burden for him. Some others included him not getting any food for a whole day or two ( but were they really nightmares if this was his reality?) and people being mean to him.

• His ways of comforting himself during such times were very limited. He would wake up with a jolt and startle Faust too. They both would later cuddle and squeeze together. To prevent getting bullied , he would act all mean in front of bullies and protect Muriel from them too. To avoid starvation, he would resort to petty stealing via magic. He would visit his 'gate' on especially rough nights seeking comfort from his patron arcana the Magician. He would use magic to create pretty scenarios to calm himself down .Muriel started to comfort him too once he found out about his nightmares.

• (After meeting MC) He started to visit the magic shop the day after his nightmares . MC's aunt was a kind lady . Being in her presence would remind Asra of home and comfort him in an odd way. But he liked it. Once he was good friends with MC , he would randomly crash into their bedroom for comfort and cuddles. He was loved in the magic shop. But to avoid getting attached to them , he would often go on 'trips' , only to return after being haunted by nightmares making him crave for a place to call a 'home'. His nightmares significantly decreased after getting close to MC.

• (Plague Era) In the initial stages of the spread of plague , he would often get nightmares about his friends catching the plague. Mc did a great job in reassuring him initially but as the situation in vesuvia worsened so did his nightmares. He could not be reassured. Which then led to 'the argument' that caused him and MC to separate.

• (After MC's death) After he got to know about MC's demise (and after his short trip (?) to lazaret ), his nightmares would now involve those tall chimneys he saw on the island. In his nightmares, he would wander around the crematory and would hear MC's voice calling him . He would always wake up in cold sweat after such nightmares and cry himself to sleep again .

• (Post U.E. route) After the fight against devil was won , he had MC with him now. Now no matter what nightmares he would experience , he would always wake up to comfort full of love from his love. Now the nightmares were manageable and even if some of them truly terrified him , he knew he could tackle anything and anyone. He could go against the world if required now that he had MC supporting him.

Daydreams :

• (Before meeting MC) Asra is a very creative person. At such a young age his daydreams would involve a safe place , lavish meals , running around with friends. He would also daydream about his parents returning someday and taking him with them. He would often try to create these 'daydream scenarios' play out in front of him via magic. This also helped him get better at magic.

• Once Muriel and him secured a safe place in the woods , he would ask Muriel to join him while he was playing out such scenarios. Muriel would often decline , but on the rare occasions he would join Asra , he would find himself entranced in asra's daydreams. Afterall he has a very creative imagination.

• (After meeting MC) after meeting MC in his stall at one of the bazaars of lucio's annual masquerade ball, his daydreams started to include more of MC as he got to know them more. Scenarios of them practicing magic together, taking classes from MC's aunt together, going on foraging trips to gather resources for the shop together. During masquerade ball season , when he would be making new masks (to keep up the inventory) for his annual stall , he would daydream about the different styles of masks and colours that would suit them . Asking Muriel for help while carving out masks and showing him his ideas via magic (the same way he used while daydreaming). It would all be so they (MC) could have more options to choose from. He would always daydream about them dancing at ball together. When he saw other couples in the ball doing different types of couple activities, it too would feed his daydream fuel.

• While away on trips , he would daydream of bringing MC with him. To explore new places, meet new people, experience new experiences together. When the longing became too much to bear for him alone , he would return to meet them.

• (After MC's death) Daydreams were his only escape from the reality. He had no one he could rely on anymore. He would daydream about MC coming back , of him bringing MC back. He daydreamed about seeing MC again after all this time , about the time spent and what could have been. He would choose moments from his life and daydream about changing the course of how things happened, how things should have happened. He daydreamed about all that mattered to him and still there was nothing he could do to make that happen. Except being patient. Except searching for ways he could bring them back. Except daydreaming about successfully finding a way to bring them back. All because he had a creative imagination.

• (Post U.E. route) Now that everything was right , he finally dared to daydream about a future . A future where MC was present. A future where his parents were there . A future where he had people he could rely on. A future he could not wait to experience. Now his daydreams were filled with plans. Plans he would make to make his loved ones happy. Now his daydreams were not an escape, but just creative thoughts. Of course it did not happen immediately but eventually he leaned to control them. His creative thoughts help bring happiness in his loved ones lives now. His plans are always very detailed making everyone surprised when he finally decides to execute them. Why wouldn't they be surprised? Afterall he does have a very creative imagination.

That was fun to write ! I am so proud of it! Possibly my next post will be a Asra × Riku fic.

hi anon! i'll try best to elaborate, but apologies in advance if it comes off a bit... intense?

to give some context to my words:

i am nonbinary

i am afab

my pronouns are they/them

most everyone with the exception of close friends and people on the internet misgender me with she/her pronouns because they perceive me as a woman.

i think the root of it for me is that muriel has no experience interacting with earth, let alone humans, before they're sent down to be Inspector Constable. and because they have no experience with humans, they most definitely have very little context for the human construct that is gender. muriel's pronouns are they/them because those are the default gender neutral pronouns in english. muriel (like the other angels and demons) is referred to with they/them pronouns because, for all intents and purposes, they don't have gender.

whereas aziraphale and crowley (and even gabriel to a certain extent) have interfaced with humanity enough to have developed some level of understanding regarding gender, and possibly even an understanding of what they want their gender to be/be perceived as.

additionally, crowley and aziraphale play with gender in a way that feels very intentional to me.

crowley has canonically, in the show, presented femme. meta writers far more skilled than me have examined how, during the crucifixion scene, crowley is very obviously dressed more like the women in the background than the men. and it's not just in the historical flashbacks that we see crowley's genderfuckery. his modern look is comprised of a combination of femme and masc pieces. he wears a woman's cut waistcoat and his "11 years ago" look features women's sunglasses. all while inhabiting a decidedly man-shaped body.

i'm also just going to remind the audience that crowley outright denies being "a lad" in season 2. he straight up told us he's not A Dude.

aziraphale's genderfuckery is definitely less obvious and some might say debatable. that being said, i would make the argument that aziraphale's tendency to dress and present in a way that results in him being almost universally perceived as not only A Gay Man, but an effeminate gay man at that, is a quintessential example of gender as performance. and i do believe that aziraphale is making a very conscious and deliberate choice to present as a gay man. for fuck's sake he calls himself THE Southern Pansy, he knows what he's doing.

also, i know it didn't actually happen, but we almost got both of them presenting femme in the 60s so like. there's that too.

so, to me, it's ok to fuck around with crowley and aziraphale's genders in fanfic and art and the like because they do so canonically. the book makes it very clear that they are "man-shaped" but not necessarily men, ie they have chosen bodies that are perceived as being A Gender but that doesn't mean they technically are.

whereas muriel does not. muriel doesn't have a concept of gender because they haven't been on earth or around humans long enough to develop one. they are only ever referred to with gender neutral language. so it just feels really gross to me when people choose to she/her them. because to me it feels like saying "well this body that appears woman-shaped to me must mean they are a woman" which is a sentiment i, unfortunately, know all too well.

muriel is a character that is canonically referred to with they/them pronouns, on a major TV show on a major streaming platform no less. so it really fucking sucks to see people disregard that because they "can't remember to they/them muriel" or because they "seem like they use she/her."

to put it bluntly, every single argument i've ever read in favor of she/her-ing muriel has boiled down to "i just can't be bothered to remember they use they/them" and if you can't use a fictional characters pronouns correctly then i have zero faith you can use a real person's pronouns correctly. all i hear when i read those arguments is "i can't be fucked to do the bare minimum of gendering trans people correctly."

and lastly, i know it's genderfuckery when people she/her aziraphale and crowley because they're "man shaped" in the book and played by male actors in the show. but i don't have much faith that it's genderfuckery when people she/her muriel because i can almost guarentee it happens for no other reason than the fact that Quelin Sepulveda is a woman.

The good omens universe where everyone is queer and people effortlessly use they/them pronouns is so incredibly comforting if I’m being completely honest.

Being out and non-binary is incredibly hard because there are a lot of people who don’t even bother using the correct pronouns. And they’ll kick up a fuss at you if try and correct them. So seeing characters like Muriel or Beelzebub who use they/them pronouns and people just USE them instead of constantly telling them “can’t you just go by she??? It would be so much easier” was like a sip of cold water after months in the desert.

It really made me feel seen and remind me that I’m not asking for much by wanting ppl to respect my pronouns.

Random information about my OCs

Kyle;

Is trans and proud of it having no shame in his birth gender but also knowing it's not who he is.

Goes by he/him mainly but also accepts they/them pronouns.

Has a pair of scars on his shoulders that are from a very large bird so looks like they're from the talons of a large bird.

His dragon cape while a bit child-like actually seems effective at scaring away birds or putting them on high alert, the exceptions being familiars who recognize the defense mechanism and know it's just a normal person underneath. (also crows and ravens that have seen him with the hood down.)

He has a fear and fascination with fire. Enjoy watching it and setting things on fire inside the oven or on the campfire. However, also has a soft fear of fire finding himself flinching away if it gets too close while throwing something in it. Slightly closing his eyes when summoning it.

I have something called a core root, something they cling onto no matter what. For Kyle, this is the feeling of comfort, making him one of my softer OCs. He has a good sense of intuition with people's intentions. This helps him know when he can act adorable and when he needs to act more serious.

Kyle finds joy in being able to act soft and carefree. However don't get this mixed up for naivety, Kyle tends to be thinking more about a situation than you'd first think.

As for love langue his main love language he gives is physical touch and acts of service and his main love language he enjoys receiving being physical touch and gifts.

Hunter;

Nonbinary pronouns, will not accept anything else and is highly guarded about this. (rejects gender entirely but thinks this is the closest they can get to it)

Covered in scars that they got before they ran away and ended up in Vesuvia.

Their biggest insecurity isn't their countless scars, which they actually feel nothing towards. It is in fact the fact their albino, going as far as dying their hair black to try and hide it. (this is why they have such pale skin and bright red eyes.)

In the AU I have with all my OCs Bluebell and Hunter are in a temporary relationship. Where they know they can't save each other but can help for the time. Which is why they still have their main LIs. Kyle is a part of this but his relationship with them is even weirder being they offer him emotional support and company and while they do kiss they're not technically dating Kyle. It's both a poly but also kind of just a semi-open thing. It's weird but it's perfect to them.

The more I've worked on Hunter as a character the more of a different side of the same coin they become to Muriel. Think of themselves as a monster so they growl and hiss at whoever tries to get close to prove their dangerous to others and themselves. Willing to throw themselves into the first fight they can because they've never been taught that it's okay to just not fight. So meeting Muriel they learn they don't have to rush into combat and that it's okay to just stop, slowly taking their own advice about their past and not deciding who they have to be. As each time they remind Muriel they also remind themselves.

Due to their phobia of blood, they find certain scenes harder than normal MCs do and having to fight their fight or flight. Having to hold themselves back from going into a full frenzy attacking whatever is in front of them or running away unable to look back.

Adores animals and isn't scared of Inanna for a second. In fact loves to playfight with her, trusting her not to be too rough with Them and also knowing how to playfight back.

Attitude can range from quiet but always thinking to melodramatic and loud depending on who their around.

Has a strong love hate relationship with physical touch. Both craving it and having C-PTSD around it. (By the end of whoever's route their a lot more comfortable with that person's touch. Especially if it's Portia and Julian who both enjoy touch. Since more exposure helps them gain positive associations with it. Will still struggle with it occasionally.)

That said their main love language is acts of service and quality time the ones they love most returned quality time and words of affirmation

Bluebell;

Is a Dr. Having trained under one and learned everything they could.

Uses this information to help animals instead of people.

Has a phobia of spiders and mild one to pain.

Mostly shipped with Lucio so I can watch his head explode when he finds out their favorite food is plain bread and their favorite drink is water. Not because it's the best tasting but because it reminds them of the fact their free.

Social anxiety and tried to meditate it by acting like the mum of the group. Making sure everyone's fed, had something to drink, isn't over working, etc

Also why I ship them with Lucio due to their more motherly side. When it comes to their Li and people they care about.

Most likely of my Mc to cry instead of yell back during an argument.

Main love language is acts of serve followed by gifts the love language they like the most words of affirmation and physical touch.

6'4 the same height as Julian and less lanky due to having muscles. (This b can hold a swan down)

The best with animals out of my Mc's followed by Kyle.

Has no scars except emotional ones.

Changing a character's canon pronouns from they/them to non-canon binary-gendered pronouns makes me sad because it just reminds me that this world I live in doesn't care about respecting me and my pronouns and my identity.

I just wanna be seen and loved and accepted for all of myself and not other people's narrow-minded perceptions of my gender identity. I know this will never go away, but it's jarring to read fanfic with they/them characters being referred to with gendered pronouns. As if my own identity is inconsequential and unimportant.

Yeah, this is inspired by Good Omens and the characters Muriel and Beelzebub [and yes I know what Neil had to say on the topic, but this has no bearing on my personal feelings as a member of the non-binary community on this subject, which is the focus of this post].

It bothers me because my identity and pronouns aren't up for debate. My pronouns aren't optional or decided by people other than myself. It just makes me sad because it reminds me that my they/them pronouns are seen as superfluous and unnecessary. Changing them to match the actor (or one's own gendered perception) makes it seem like those non-gendered pronouns don't matter.

I love when people play with pronouns for characters, for sure! But don't just go for the one-track, easy pickings that adhere to the binary standards of our society. If a they/them character is smaller and more feminine appearing or played by a woman, don't just default to she/her. Why not use he/him for them? Same goes for male actors/or perceived masculine features. Why not use she/her for the they/them characters they play? Why not use many different kinds of pronouns for that character? You don't have to stick to one set. I promise you that people are smart enough to keep up. Don't just default the pronouns according to your own narrow perception of gender. It feels icky.

Non-binary and genderqueer people exist, and it's so rare for us to get canon non-binary/genderqueer characters. Please let us just have this. Please show us and the world that they/them pronouns are normal and not a big deal, and that they're not an option.

And remember guys, maybe it's easy to say, but harder to do, but you are who you want to be. Don't let the labels people put on you when you were born stop you from loving yourself. No matter if you're a boy, a girl, or even someone else. Everyone deserves love and acceptance! So don't be scared to reach out for help when you're feeling dysphoric, some people are shit, but there's also people who will understant you and cherish you the way you want to be. Don't let people call you your dead name or wrong pronouns. You matter, you have rights and you are loved, and perfect the way you want to be! If you feel like the oposite gender (or none), you are that gender! It's all about the way YOU feel, not anyone else. It's your body, not theirs. So if someone tries to tell you, that you're wrong, and "just confused" don't let those words get to you!
