Race on the base reverse triathlon yesterday. A great first sprint race to the season despite getting a flat front tire about 6 miles into the bike. Went from 25mph to around 15mph very quickly and hung on to finish the race without crashing. 16th Full Ironman ✅ Ironman Arizona was an interesting race for me as I only had a few weeks to recover from being sick in Kona and then bouncing back enough to toe the line at Tempe Town Lake. I had a good swim followed by a decent bike and then a terrible day on the run portion of the race. But I did finish despite a few bike mechanical failures and some nausea issues on the run. The real accomplishment came when Roworx fitness member and first time Full Ironman finisher triathlete Ngina Thompson @thompsonngina crossed the finish line. She has been taking indoor rowing classes from Roworx Fitness and been her triathlon coach for over a year. Super Medal Monday! Been waiting over 10 years since I started this journey and a lifetime since I could remember I’ve wanted to do the Ironman World 🌎 Championships. Race report coming soon but let’s just briefly say I’m very happy to have finished this brutal race. I can’t thank my girlfriend, entire family, support crew @thompsonngina @lynndo, and all my sponsors enough to get me through the finish line. If you couldn’t already guess something did go very wrong with the race ... it totally did. My stomach and body right after the swim and about 20 miles into the bike felt very sick and couldn’t regain any strength or speed on the bike. The run didn’t go well at all but the goal was to finish and to enjoy the moment. I can now say I’ve qualified and finished the Ironman World Championships. Since this was the fastest bike split for 56 miles (23mph average) on the bike that I’ve ever done I thought I would splurge and get the photos. The thing is ... I could have gone faster. I felt very strong but held back knowing the beach / sand half marathon run was coming. Ironman Superfrog in San Diego was definitely one of the hardest half Ironmans I’ve ever done and has set me up for a good effort in Kona, Hawaii at the World Championships in exactly 2 weeks.
