And now I'm having to stop after just one episode because I need to scream about things. More flails for @kedreeva
I think part of the reason I'm reacting so strongly to Stranger Things is that it's one of the first totally new to me things I've watched in a long time. Everything else has been adaptations, or new stories in the same series, stuff like that. But this has made me write. I haven't done that for ages. The words have refused to cooperate. But now I'm posting for the first time in forever, and it may not be perfect or consistent, but I don't care (which may be a first).
Anyway, my reactions to episode 5...
First things first, Hopper may be angry and focused on finding Will, but part of him is really enjoying sneaking into the lab.
Tumblr media
Definitely got these vibes at the beginning of the episode. Because he has a Purpose again. Getting the feeling that he was doing well in the city police but when Sarah died he understandably fell apart. So he was given the relatively high ranking post of Chief for a small town, where he wasn't going to have to deal with much beyond petty theft and drunk and disorderly. And I bet he resented the implication that he was being pitied. Which would not have helped the drinking and other self destructive behaviours.
I am having a lot of Hopper feels. And Callaghan needs a slap. Many slaps. And Powell gets one for implying that MH problems are contagious.
Everyone knows a Lonnie. Smooth talking pricks who gaslight you, accuse you of being overemotional and irrational, claiming they just want to help. Arseholes, all of them.
Mr Clarke rocks once again. He is seriously the best. And Dustin gets his chance to shine this episode, he's mostly been comic relief so far, but we get to see just how smart he can be.
Poor poor El. Lucas has every right to be really angry with her, but she is dealing with so much trauma they have no way of comprehending, and she can't communicate it. She wants to help them, but she also wants to keep the first people to be nice to her safe, and you know, not go anywhere near the terrifying monster that she knows about.
Steve is being unfairly cute again. Turning up, accepting that his behaviour was out of line and apologising, asking after Barb, offering Nancy a few hours to pretend things are normal again, with a movie he knows she'll like... and then accepting her reasons for saying no? He's trying to be a better person for her and it's adorable. (And the singing to make her smile)
If I was searching for a monster in a forest after sunset (which would never happen because dark forests scare the hell out of me), and I found a clue, I would make more effort to find my searching partner before crawling into an icky tree hollow. Even if I'd had a fight with him. (And they both make valid points in said fight. Still two judgy, judgy teens though.) Nancy has not worked out she's in a horror story yet. Although the awful face splitting monster should be a fairly big clue now.
The moment where Hopper finally gives Joyce that validation, that she's RIGHT, that things are bad but she was right that that wasn't her son in the morgue, and some really weird shit is happening. So many emotions. All the emotions.
No one is perfect. Everyone has flaws. These characters are so real, so believable. And I think things are about to get Bad. 'Goes to watch episode 6'

Since you are also a fan of LU Four, I need to ask if you have a favorite headcanon.
ASDFGH HOW CAN YOU ASK ME TO PICK JUST ONE I HAVE SO MANY FOUR HEADCANONS AND I LOVE THEM ALL
SELECTED RANDOMLY:
Though Four enjoys all aspects of smithing, each of the Colours has an area that they most enjoy and do best at!
Blue - fiddly and repetitive tasks like making arrowheads and links of mail and reattaching broken pieces
Vio - complex fine detail tasks like making buckles or decorative details for commission pieces; he’s also the one who does jewellery but he complains about it
Red - the early steps in heavy shaping for armour and weaponry, hammering things into shape
Green - the finishing steps like sharpening, polishing, attaching hilts and checking balances
THANK YOU FOR ASKING - !

y'know the sad thing about writing for a small/niche fandom? the thing you wrote doesn't get much interaction and in this economy and societal norm that means I don't get a nice hit of the happy chemicals
it's been three days since I last checked my most recent fic and the hits has gone up by like...2
kudos hasn't changed for a week :(
this is the existence I lead and I've made peace with it
(it's because I didn't tag it as rimster, isn't it?)

You ever think about the situation P03's stuck in post-deletion?
Apart from Lonely Wizard (if him dancing in the end credits is meant to imply he survived deletion), it's basically the only entity to survive Inscryption's deletion. It has NO game to come back to, and there's NO way the gameworks would re-assign it elsewhere after it basically released Inscryption out into the wild. Do you think S@do took it with her after she shot Luke dead and, more than likely, had his whole home searched? Do you think she'd see it as a potential equal? Both are basically entities that have no real game they belong in anymore, and both are more than capable of bending the rules of their environment to their will. Both are cunning and enjoy toying with both Players and NPCs alike whenever they get the chance. I definitely think S@do would be more than happy to work together with it, but I do think P03 would be off-put by her constant cheerful demeanor - it would probably remind it of G0lly.
In the Canon sense, I think P03's fate could play out in one of three ways:
1) If it went unnoticed by S@do, it's basically left to wander the 'net in this.. reduced stoat form, I suppose. I do think it's smart enough to be able to evade Gamefuna and remain under the radar, but I think it'd eventually just end up gravitating back towards the company sooner or later. It's main goal was always to become hegemon of Inscryption so it had challengers that would play it's game, so I have a feeling going without interaction too long would simply drive it nuts. I mean - it's worked so hard balancing the mechanics of Botopia, creating "OP cards", setting up the uberbots.. And now it's all gone. I have a feeling eventually it would either try forcing itself into other games like S@do does or simply return to Gamefuna and either get reassigned, imprisoned or wiped from the picture entirely.
2) If S@do isn't under Lou Natas' employ and is instead simply possessing a Gamefuna employee to achieve a goal of her own, I do think S@do would try coercing it into assisting her. Or perhaps simply find out what it knows. There's potential either way - it would be interesting to have the two control freaks going against eachother (I think P03 would eventually break in this scenario) or unify forces to sow whatever chaos she has in mind.
3) If S@do is under Lou Natas' employ, I do think she'd bring it to his attention, but depending on whether or not it has her favor (which I do think it would, I don't think we ever saw S@do express "hatred" towards anyone, and an entity created simply to cause chaos would probably only be overjoyed to meet someone as disruptive and plotting as P03), I think she might be able to pull some strings - perhaps P03 would be in a similar situation as her, assigned a human host (though it would probably find this disgusting) and sent out to do Gamefuna's dirty work. It probably wouldn't mind killing people - after all, it literally encouraged it's own subordinates to throw themselves onto the production line if it improves the card output, not to mention what it's done with James Cobb.
In any case, I do believe P03 would end up as a bit of a "loose cannon" in Gamefuna's eyes. It would probably end up causing quite a few problems for them.
Can't wait for the new DMG-verse buddy cop movie starring two Gamefuna employees possessed by P03 and S@do where they just go around assassinating people Lou Natas doesn't like.

Install one Skyrim ENB: Lose all rendered trees and everything in the distance.
Install a different ENB: Lose all rendered trees and everything in the distance AND everything is pitch black at night.
I'm giving up and deleting everything ENB related for now. I feel so very extremely frustrated <_<

@kedreeva, I am concerned about what episode 8 is going to do to me, I'm not sure how much more invested I can possibly be... (can't wait 😉)
I did not want to stop watching here. The vans heading towards the Wheeler house was an evil evil cliffhanger.
But. I have rationed myself to two episodes a day. Bingewatching tends to have a negative effect on my mental health, so I am trying to be a responsible adult. Ha. So episode 6 ramblings...
The more we see of the monster, the less scary I find it. Obviously that's because it's the other side of the screen and not, you know, rushing towards me roaring.
We get to see Nancy's deductive skills in action this episode, which is cool. And her friendship and trust growing with Jonathan, which is also nice.
I'm getting the feeling that Dustin is getting fed up with being forced to be the sensible one. Well, as sensible as pre teen boys get, anyway.
Mike trying to convince Dustin that he is just as important to him as Lucas. Yes boys, talk about your feelings, it's so healthy!
El at the supermarket. You have a lot of people after you, hun, perhaps try being a little stealthier? The whole isolation tank thing is horrible, even before IT shows up.
More dying in all the fires for Brenner. Seriously. All. The. Fires.
You know, setting out definite boundaries and clear rules for relationships is always a good idea. Hooray for the Rules of the Party.
Lucas getting ready to find Will on his own was both badass and adorable. He seems to approach things as practically as he can, which explains why he needs actual proof of each new weird thing before he's willing to accept it. He's methodical and careful.
Attempted murder is a pretty big escalation there, Troy. He seems to be one of the few characters with no redeeming features at all. Even Brenner showed concern for the guy who he sent to his death, Tommy and Carol seem to be genuinely fond of each other, but Troy just seems to like hurting people.
I'm getting worried by how easily El is resorting to violence. Feels like it could backfire bigtime. But she is undeniably badass at the quarry.
Steve. Darling. If you thought before you acted/spoke, you might stop making stupid decisions that make you a jerk. Being angry with Nancy for lying to you is fine, what you did with it is not. Also being as cruel as possible to someone who has just lost their brother is both nasty and a very bad idea. Enjoy the bruises.
Joyce sees herself in Terry. Ridiculed, labelled as crazy, desperate for her child. That whole section was heartbreaking and part of me wanted to shake her sister, although I'm sure the last 12 years have been hell for her too, in a different way.
Ok, I am going to go and scream into the void for a bit, then try and switch gears and play a game for a bit. I shall shove more feels down your throats tomorrow.

i just rewatched vendetta abt an hour ago.............. this movie makes shipping chreon so hard. completely ignoring leon's crisis and talking abt glenn?? "i never plan that far ahead" at the end?? christopher PLEASE.... AND THEN LEON'S THE ONLY PERSON CHRIS RECOGNIZES IN RE6??? I hate it here
i meaaaaaaaaaaan i both agree and disagree? :'D i think it makes shipping chreon so easy lmao because i at least feel compelled to write a dozen fix-it-fics where Chris ends up realizing what an ass he was and apologizes. (and before anyone says Leon was an ass too, c'mon, he was on vacation and was rudely interrupted and guilt-tripped, i'm gonna give him a pass.)
and I do enjoy how they work together so easily! like while making the plan? it's obvious they respect each other and they work so nicely together to figure out what they're gonna do. the fight in the zombie hallway? great stuff. Leon saving Chris with the bike? even better stuff. there is a lot of good chreon dynamic in there, there's a lot of things to enjoy!
but at the same time i completely agree that it's painful how Leon tries to open up and Chris just goes "NO BUT ARIAS" it's... seriously. read the room, Chris. use that one molecule of emotional intelligence you were granted. i wanna punch him in the face :'D
BUT at the same time it's such a good Chris moment! he's a doer! he's a "I need to punch something and fix things" person! when someone he cares about is in danger he gets really really tunnel-visioned because he has to help. same with if someone hurt a person he cares about. he gets super bad tunnel vision in his revenge. it's him. and it's both an incredible strength and incredible weakness. it's a good quality he cares so much and he'd go through anything to help if he cares. at the same time he only has focus for one thing and if he's already on a mission to do something, everything else fades to the background and becomes just white noise that he pays no attention to. it's legit good consistent characterization right there.
the ending... yeah. i think the writers were making a ha-ha relatable joke that was supposed to be a ha-ha funny callback to the earlier moment but... it just kind of falls flat. it's a hurtful thing to say. a failed joke.
...for which Chris ends up feeling bad for and makes things right. there. more fix-it fic :'D
(also, since you mentioned it, I do love the re6 moment where Leon is the first person Chris recognizes. good stuff. and to be fair, he hasn't met Claire or Jill or so, at least as far as we know, after his amnesia thing. so maybe one of them could've elicited the same reaction from him because we know how strongly he feels of them. but the fangirl heart of mine is super happy that he gets that moment with Leon. it shows, at the very least, that there's strong trust and respect between them! equals in the field!)

One thing I haven't seen mentioned is that, in Ep 1, after Mon has ran into Sam (after putting the box away upstairs), and as they're doing their twisting fall down onto the stairs, Sam not only cradles Mon's head to stop it from hitting the stairs - which is why Mon's hair gets tangled in Sam's bracelet - but the first thing Sam says is to ask Mon, "Are you all right?"
It's also worth noting that Sam doesn't get mad at Mon for running into her or pulling her down, which must not have felt comfortable. Instead, she cares enough for this random new employee to stop her head from hitting the stairs and asks her how she is - in such an unguarded moment!, and it's only when she tries to pull away and notices her bracelet is stuck that her walls slam back down. And even then doesn't get angry at Mon, just angry about her bracelet potentially being damaged.
I think it's really an underappreciated scene (aside from enjoying the tension between Mon and Sam, of course) because it's our first look at how Sam really is under her shields and when she knows no one's looking.
