Hey! You've mentioned female!SQH in passing a while ago and that concept has been living rent-free in my brain ever since. I'd love to read your thoughts on it if you have more/are interested in sharing. Hope you're having a nice trip! :)

Thank you! I don't have many concrete thoughts on Fem!SQH (or Fem!MBJ or F/F!Moshang for that matter) besides the fact that I would try my best to make it a hot fucking mess. I would probably write it as a cracky one shot and I would want Fem!SQH to cause constant secondhand embarrassment on multiple levels. Not that Airplane Bro as Fem!SQH would be especially oblivious, no, she knows what she's doing and it's hugging thighs, committing crimes, and making other sect leaders walk out of conferences asking themselves if women should really be allowed to cultivate.

I'm exaggerating a little, but also not really. Airplane Bro is wily and genre-savvy and an apathetic bastard, at the same time that he's a clingy idiot who needs to pay more attention to what he's saying, and I resent assumptions that a female character is automatically the one "carrying the braincell". I would want to write something outrageously funny in which Airplane Bro transmigrating into Fem!SQH causes some chaos and gives MBJ even more issues than MBJ already had.

(I'm talking about a Male Airplane Bro transmigrating into a Fem!SQH here because I think a Female Airplane Bro transmigrating into a Fem!SQH sounds a little too OC for me to write that, though a woman writing an incredibly successful stallion novel like PIDW is very fun to think about. Even Airplane Bro growing up as Fem!SQH would inherently shift his character at least slightly, but that would be a firmer base for me to start on and I'm growing more comfortable with the idea. There's lots of room to explore Airplane Bro's relationship to gender and women by having him transmigrate into a female character in his stallion novel world.)

As for the idea of a Fem!SQH in PIDW... the details all depend on what kind of story you want to write. Only changing SQH's gender inherently has very different vibes to doing a full genderbend on the entire cast of PIDW/SVSSS. In a full cast genderbend, I personally don't really see the plot beats of the original SQH changing much. In a SQH-only genderbend, things could stay the same still, but if you wanted to switch it up, I suppose that in PIDW, the premise could instead have been an ambitious Fem!SQH trying to (maybe successfully?) blackmail MBJ into marrying her, but also resenting the necessity of having to marry for power, especially to a demon, and so hating MBJ's guts. Which would be mutual.

Lots of potential themes for a Fem!SQH's storyline in PIDW about how power can be given and taken away, the pros and cons of the legal situation of marriage, the intersection of sex/gender and class, and all sorts of interesting things.

Okay, now that I'm thinking about it, I kind of like the concept of PIDW Fem!SQH blackmailing MBJ into marrying her or something and then PIDW MBJ later on murdering his own wife. That seems sufficiently dark for PIDW. It would also be a stark contrast for PIDW MBJ to be a murderous widower when Luo Bing-Ge has so many wives. Putting Airplane Bro into that particular Fem!SQH situation for the SVSSS version of those events has strong Bluebeard fairy tale vibes. But that's also probably a slightly more serious story than the cracky vibe I was originally envisioning.

Mmm, I don't have any specific thoughts besides that at the moment. It's all fun to think about, though. ❤

🐅 - Characterization: character habits, personality, etc.

Before he thought about joining the Night's Watch, Jon had really intense teenage angst over running out of time to reach greatness. You know, "Barristan the Bold got his nickname by thirteen! The Kingslayer was knighted at fifteen, and I still lose to Robb when we train together!! At my age, The Young Dragon was already conquering Dorn!!!" kind of thoughts, followed by morose confidence that after eighteen, all chances to become a hero are over.

🦄 - Characters' physical appearance.

I strongly believe that Jon is short. Not even average height like Ned: if they met again when Jon is all grown up, Jon still would be shorter. And when they finally meet with Sansa, she's also going to be a bit taller :3

💖 - Romantic relationships or ships.

Jon/Val is going to be endgame, much to everyone's frustration, because Martin can't be assed to flesh Val out further than "cool and sexy warrior lady".

Lol, I mean, I think it's pretty clear by now that Jon and Dany (and possibly Tyrion) will become a thing at some point and there's going to be a lot of messy feelings on all sides. And while I doubt Dany's storyline will be the same *insert complicated headcanon here*, I think Jon's series ending got some of the main beats right. Basically, I think he will survive the final battle and feel like he outlived his propose, break up with/betray Dany in some non-stabby way, get disconnected from the society and move beyond the (destroyed forever, tyvm) Wall to that tower he and Ygritte talked about to mope in peace, get rare visits from the family and surviving friends and have casual sex with Val.

💛 - Familial relationships.

Growing up, he and Robb were crazy competitive over everything, from who learns Ned's bannermen's sigils faster (Robb) to who can hold their breath underwater the longest (actually Theon, but he doesn't count because he's older, so Jon). But while for Robb it's always been in good fun, Jon really needed to win every single time and had to learn not to get upset at least outwardly.

🕊️ - Platonic relationships (friends, enemies, etc).

This one is heavily affected by the show, and I recognise this. Still, I maintain that, while they can't stand each other, Jon and Thorne recognise that they both are actually competent people, of which there's a real shortage on the Wall. So if Thorne returns from his raid while Jon is dead, he's going to be really pissed about his assassination. He's going to be even more pissed when Jon comes back to life.

🗡️ - Fighting styles/combat.

While Jon is outstanding at sword fighting by the Watch's current standard, he still has a lot to learn and is not a legendary fighter.

✨ - Worldbuilding or background story elements.

Jon was really fascinated with Luwin's telescope (called Myrish eye here, apparently) and would constantly bother him to get to look through it. He had to stop himself from asking the same from Aemon, when he first arrived at the Wall.

🍁 - Physical locations, flora & fauna.

Jon can easily withstand cold and actually loves snow and winter, but can't bear hot weather. If this boy ever gets to the Reach, not to mention Dorn, he's getting cooked immediately.

Not sure if this is unpopular, but Lysa's wedding to Jon Arryn would have been a failure no matter what

I think I disagree, but I would agree that they have multiple obstacles that make happiness hard: they don't come off as very similar personalities, the age difference is considerable, and I would guess that Lysa wanted passion in her life even if she got over Petyr. Add in a stressful and time-consuming job for him (being Robert's hand), an isolating location (both KL and the Eyrie), and you get plenty of scenarios in which they wind up unhappy.

But let's look at a what-if in which everything goes right (save the fact that a 15 year old is marrying someone old enough to be her grandfather): what if Lysa didn't get pregnant with LF's baby, didn't have a forced abortion, didn't develop a bad relationship with her father, had a few more healthy children with Jon, and Jon never appoints Petyr to the small council. I think her psychological stress would generally be far less, and I can see her making more friends at court and thus depending less on Jon for all her emotional needs (some studies show that people with stronger social networks have better marriages, for some definition of "better"). She stays in touch with Riverrun, visits, feels less homesick, less punished. Jon doesn't have cause to view her as soiled goods, if that was indeed the case, and maybe sees more to admire in her as a stronger and more vital person. He may still love his former wife best, and she may find him sexually unsatisfying, but they could wind up friendlier, and while that wouldn't necessarily make them the best marriage in ASOIAF, maybe they wouldn't be a failure either. Heck, maybe this Lysa has the presence of mind to carry on a pleasant sexual affair on the side while she's young, and once she's a little older she gets fulfillment from her kids, cultural endeavors, travel, what have you.

So depending on how you define "success"/"non-failure", and if you rather implausibly take away enough of the things that makes the story (and the match itself) compelling in the first place, I think it could've been okay, if inexplicable.

If we discount how much I think about a fantasy book series which I probably wouldn’t even recommend to anyone who happened to ask me for a fantasy book series recommendation… I guess I’m gonna go with Leon Garfield’s Shakespeare’s Stories, particularly Henry IV, part 1, as a book that fucked me up. (Spoiler warning here) The whole debauched playboy with daddy issues spends the whole thing obsessing over the honourable boy who’s great with a sword, before killing him in battle and cradling him whilst he dies, I think shaped my whole shipping mentality (though I had no clue that’s what I was doing when I was obsessively rereading it at 9)

124. I’m reading The Magnificent Sons by Justin Myers, which I bought as recompense for how much I love his impeccable table manners blog

134. Apart from 50 Shades, (which I’ve never actually read, it’s just in my head Edward Cullen would very much be looking a domme 😏) I have I unrecommended Sally Rooney’s Conversations with Friends, though I’m not sure I can explain my qualms.

Idk if it's still a popular speculation because I wasn't really engaging with asoiaf fandom for a couple of years, but Tyrion will not have the "dark arc" (I forgot how people called it lol, but the idea that he will turn evil for some time) in TWoW. He already went through it in ADwD with rape, drinking and depression, and him scheming with the Golden Company actually marks Tyrion coming back to himself, not sinking further. People think he descends into darkness by doing this, but he's always been a schemer and kind of an asshole, it's back to normal for him. Plus, Gurm is generally less critical of him than the fandom.
