Whenever I see someone posting about banning abortion, just one question comes to mind:

What do you propose to make sure that no one should be desperate enough to do something drastic like that?

Catching up on the whole watcher situation because I ironically stopped watching their channel regularly because I didn’t like how expensively produced their shows were compared to Buzzfeed Unsolved’s simplicity

#i didn’t have a problem with them changing the way they did things or anything #like it made sense that they would want to have a significant departure from their Buzzfeed style after leaving Buzzfeed #i just didn’t like it as much #so i would only watch occasionally if i needed something to listen to in the background #the fact that they are now trying to put their content behind a paywall #because production is so expensive #is wild to me #like imo the production actively made the show less enjoyable #why are you spending money you don’t have on it???#idk it just makes me sad #like i know the YouTube documentarians i watch are probably going to end up doing videos on this #usually with those videos i’m the one from the outside looking in on some drama around a person i’ve never heard about before #but i was a fan of ryan and shane since high school #I have some of their Buzzfeed unsolved merch #it’s sad that people i looked up to turned out to be so out of touch on so many levels #watcher

#thinking of dinosaurs and troodontids were my favorite dinosaurs as a child #when younger i had a real full troodontid tooth fossil that meant a lot to me #for a time we lived within a few kilometers of hadrosaur sites and troodontid sites #while wider general area had many sites of recovery for the big celebrities like tyrannosaur and multiple dromaeosaurs #at that time troodontids were kinda infamous for i think the depiction in some childrens field guides and dino books #which depicted like a fantasy speculative humanoid troodontid based on 1980s model at Canadian Museum of Nature in ottawa #anyway would visit a small local paleo center a lot and woman in her 70s or 80s ran the counter of their center and rock shop #one day she asked me what my fave dino was and i said troodon so she pulled out the tooth and just gifted it to me #in little black case size of ring box with padding and transparent plastic viewing cover kinda like laminate for displaying a trading card #tooth got stolen from out my vehicle while giving some people a ride while at university before i got too poor for tuition #later during first year of pandemic owner of my storage unit died and new property owners threw away everything i ever owned #i was homeless anyway lost job due to early pandemic closures and had to allocate any money to insulin and other prescrip meds #but wouldve found a way to save my things if the new owners had contacted me #they threw out photoalbums y backpacking gear y books y musical instruments y clothes y artwork y camera y all family keepsakes #and all childhood treasures like souvenirs and gifts and school awards and writing portfolios and all the little memories #which i was always sentimental about as child #from earliest age my room looked like a natural history museum with plants and maps and library of field guides #and rocks and field trip keepsakes and all kinds of little animal figurines and mother had painted room in forest greens and browns #to feel like a forest and among the succulent plants and a globe sat the troodon tooth #parents passed when i was a child #never near any family and were always moving never got to settle into proper stable place then father passed after long sad illness #and mother put in so much effort but she passed few years later and i could not take care of myself or my remaining material possessions #and so im still quite hurt having nothing whatsoever remaining of my childhood or school friends or mother or life generally #and when trying to process grief my thoughts often come back to the troodontid tooth as a focal point a distillation of what was lost #even when young i knew it was advised not to become too connected to material physical possessions #but still there are some small little trinkets in our lives that seem to hold so much meaning and i tortured myself for losing that tooth #thinking about troodon reminds me of childhood

i do find the difference between jpop/kpop showcasing people who didn't necessarily have the most raw talent to begin with openly working hard to become better singers or dancers vs the western, and specifically US obsession with acting like the only real talents are the ones who were "born" with it from day dot interesting.

#this isnt a Ooh western music bad post either by the way #i do just find the way over time its gone from ever really showing any of the hard work a person put in to just pretending it was 100%#natural is very interesting #bc No... even the people with natural talent have to nurture it #whereas seeing someone who was kinda terrible to begin and actively showing them improve and being like This was bc they practiced is nice #although that def seems less of a thing as kpop gets bigger and bigger #ive seen some terrible vids of idols and its like no you put in the money to train them properly good lord #its the same way i always find the obsession with bands in the west forming “naturally” rather than being put together funny #like I get it bc some lil high school friends makin a group and becoming big is very fun and cool #but so often those groups implode and ended up hating each other #a group of musicians getting together bc they're musicians doesn't inherently make them less interesting as a group that formed on their ow

anybody remember the stephanie brown essay I was working on under a research grant fully last summer? yeah it’s not done yet it super needs to be done and I’ve been avoiding working on it for weeks. someone tell me to just do it already

#the problem is. actually there are several problems #1) I’ve been out of the Batman/dc comics phase for almost a year so I don’t care that much about the topic #2) I am fifteen pages in and have not touched it in months so I’ve completely lost my train of thought #3) I can’t just reread it because I hate first five pages or so and I know I need to change it but I was trying to finish before editing #so now my only solution is I need to open up a new doc and completely restructure the whole thing by splicing together the existing writing #so that I can figure out where the hell im going with this and make sure things fit together better #unfortunately that sounds fucking exhausting #but I told my mentor I would have an update for him by the end of the week and. well. it’s the end of the week #I have to present it in April. I have to write and submit an abstract in March #the school gave me $1500 for this stupid essay and if I don’t have anything to show for myself.#well. I don’t know they can’t take the money BACK but it’s not a good look #and also I would feel bad #I did the research!!! i interviewed comic writers even!!! I just haven’t finished WRITING IT DOWN #and I KNOOOOWW once I get started it’ll be fine once I’m going I’m going #but STARTING is hard because I feel like I have to finish it in one go which makes it so huge and daunting #I’m like. slamming my head into a wall. just write a couple sentences Jess something is better than nothing #just start it you don’t have to finish just START just MAKE the new DOC #I know!!!!! that is what my therapist would say!!!! Did you hear that HBO Max is getting rid of Infinity Train, OK K.O, and a bunch of other shows permanently?

Yes and I am DEVASTATED!!!!! Luckily OK KO is still on Hulu (out of order, unfortunately) and Infinity Train has at least Book One and Book Two on DVD (though Owen Dennis, the creator, is actively supporting the piracy of his show), but the fact that others may become lost media as a result of this Warner Discovery merger? Unacceptable and disrespectful to everyone who watched and ESPECIALLY those who worked on these shows!!!!!!! Now new generations of kids and animation lovers will never get to enjoy these already underrated shows!!!!!!!!

For those who don't know, HBO Max is taking down a bunch of content from their library THIS WEEK so that they don’t have to pay residuals to creators and so that they can claim them on their taxes, as Warner was apparently in serious debt. I'm not 1000% sure about the details so I could be wrong, but regardless, a ton of wonderful content is being taken away from us due to corporate greed. The full list of what's being taken down, as well as some backstory as to what's happening, can be found here.

no offence to people who genuinely enjoyed james somerton and feel cheated but you could kind of tell he didnt give a shit about anything he ever said. there was no passion or personable anecdotes in anything he ever made, and the fact he was constantly posting videos was crazy. like if you watch your more popular video essayists theyre always coming from a point of 1) education in a field 2) passion in a subject and 3) being open about themselves

like , this man hopped on the video essay train because of the popularity of his peers and just tokened himself into "the gay video essayist" as if so many other people werent already doing that? and the lack of care for intersectionality was obvious. i stopped ever watching him after he took it personally that some marvel show was about black exploitation in america and not about two men kissing each other, cuz it became abundantly clear that was the only experience he gave a shit about (his own)

the first chapter of yohaji is the best first chapter I have ever read of any manga. the way it perfectly introduces the whole premise of the manga (a pathetic scardycat starts teaching at a school that is filled to the brim with supernatural students and faculty) is obviously great but HOW IT SHOWS OFF ALL THE CHARACTERS!!!

the way that haru is first shown to be a very precious so full of promise and excitement for a new job yet also being so girlfailure (I just want to pick him up and shake him).

Sano his probably most important relationship in the whole manga (im literally planning on making a ramble/essay about that) shows how he has a kind heart but is also a total sadistic! My boy is trying so hard not to show his real self of being a sweet little demon child and I love him♡♡♡♡♡ the way he totally bodies haru destroys his not even truly established relationship with the rest of the class and than leaves with a 'I don't kink shame' is GOLD!

Love how when we finally see haru's special interest we sano and mame all get to experience the immediate dread of what it is only to reassured by haru (and the manga in the same volume) that it isn't anything sexual or related to the individual wearing it

I love how EVEN IN THE FIRST CHAPTER YOU CAN TELL THERE IS MORE TO ALL OF THIS. like who is the principal and his relationship with haru's family? Or what is with haru's powers? How is the wet paper towel of a man going to deal with these students in the future? AAAAAAAaaaaaa!!!

I wish we lived in a world where I didn’t have to factor in things like “will this actually make enough money to pay off its own degree and live comfortably in this increasingly expensive world” when making my career choices because I think I would’ve really enjoyed devoting my life to studying entomology or icthyology or something instead of picking a practical but kinda bland field of engineering

#not that you can’t make it as a biologist. it’s just much more limited and not guaranteed in this increasingly expensive world #and also when I originally made the choice I was a suicidally depressed egg who didn’t really think I would have a future #now I have a future it’s just more profitable and less interesting than what I could’ve done #but I’m glad I chose what I did because being a trans woman in a field that already doesn’t make much money would probably suck even more #i hate that I have to care about money #maybe some day in the far future something might happen that will make me choose to go back to school and study what I’m passionate about #i don’t at all hate my field of study. it just puts me in close proximity to business related things that are dreadfully boring and depressi #depressing
