i wish there was more soulfire content. like people were already going into the new cc chats to bad mouth bad. one of them (malena iirc) thought it would be really cool to talk to him because she watched him in the past but then her chat started calling him xenophobic amongst other things and now she’s not so sure. i’m just really tired :(

This is so awful.

I’ve been on twitter for like 10 minutes, and under almost every post where people talk how it’s just upsetting that new people only get to know Bolas properly, there are bad Bolas mains that say shit like HAHAH CRY LOSERS. Which is CRAZY.

Honestly, I am planning to tune out as much as I can of the Purgatory 2 content unless it’s /pos for the Soulgayfire + Etoiles (and maybe a couple of other people, will decide in the process).

Hold strong, ghosties. BBH is awesome and doesn’t deserve this hate he is getting. And you all are literally the funniest and most awesome people from my mutuals, like I enjoy you all so much.

I have a love-hate relationship with Purgatory, which I will not do a deep dive analysis right now.

But the one thing I would kinda like too complain about was how it completed fucked up Baghera joining "Cellbit is killing the workers" lore.

Honest, I wanted Baghera, Bad and Bagi would deal with the situation, I wanted more Baghera and Bagi interaction! I wanted to see how the whole Baghera and Bad X Bagi discussion would affect Bagi and her trust on Bad! How would this arc would affect Baghera and her complicated relationship with the Federation!

Now after the Purgatory I feel that all this setup was destroy.

At least I hope to see how Baghera will be affected after what she went throw on the Purgatory, and if she will still be in Bad's and Bagi's side after eating some corpses with Cellbit.

I'm trying to figure out how to put into words something that's been bothering me with this event. 'Cuz while I like the concept, and there are some fun bits, in practice it is really not working for me. Setting aside all of the story arcs/relationships that have been put on pause for this event, I do think medium, once again, is at the crux of the problem. If this were a book or TV series, I would probably be way more into the Purgatory arc, but because it's a video game RP, a lot of the story beats that should work wind up falling flat for me.

It's a game, after all. And you hear that over and over again. "Don't get mad at X team; they're playing by the rules of the game." "That's just the game." "They're just playing the game."

But it's not just the characters playing the game, but the streamers also, which further blurs an already thin line between fiction and reality.

The game in the context of the lore is meant to be unfair and cruel. It's meant to push the players to doing bad things to their friends. It's meant to make them suffer. And while the streamers are not suffering as much as their characters, there's still a lot here that makes this game not all that fun. The weird balancing is an obvious one (and also an unenviable task. How do you balance a long-term competitive event between skill level, playstyle, and server activity?)

But the real problem I have is the uncertain rules. For a game to be fun, everyone involved must be on the same page regarding the rules, at least in my opinion. And by design, this Purgatory game obfuscates it rules. It tells the players up front what the rules are, but due to RP considerations, those rules are constantly in doubt. If they damage the egg statues as told, will that have an impact on their actual children? Will completely killing the egg statues kill their children, even though the rules of the game reward it? Will refusing to play along be the thing to hurt the children? Will keeping Blue and Green's scores equal break the game and prevent anyone from dying? Or will their disobedience cause everyone to die? Are they supposed to play the game or aren't they? How much of the game are they supposed to play? And if they are punished for playing and punished for not playing, then what is the point?

Most of the qsmp streams I watch these days are dedicated to game elements with significantly less time than usual devoted to the lore, so most of my watch time is spent seeing the streamers suffer through an intentionally unfun and stressful game, where victories by the game's definition seem posed to backfire and become failures by the rules of the story. The gameplay and the story are working against each other and it's all very stressful, especially as someone who is not all that into competitive events.

Still, if my team works hard and wins an event, I want to be able to cheer for them. I don't want to have to immediately go, "Well, they won, but there's a chance that, in doing so, they've perma-killed some of my favorite characters. Then again, would the admins REALLY do something like that? Better not get too happy, just in case."

It's a lot.

My plea to the rest of the qsmp tumblr fandom: Please stop making every piece of content relate back to the first purgatory.

I don't want to be a person who shows up and rains on parades to ruin fun for people, but I think there's a sizeable amount of this community that doesn't really realize how much the first purgatory has affected every less popular character's fanwork. Especially on tumblr, where English is the lingua franca and almost everyone communicates in it. You have to understand most characters on qsmp were not exactly the same characterization wise on quesadilla island than they were on purgatory. Not that they aren't the same characters, it's just people seem to be prioritizing only those purgatory characterizations over every other moment on the server, while also not looking and trying to understand these characters outside of purgatory at all.

Purgatory 2 got hit with it too, like I don't think I saw a single team in P2 that didn't get extensive comparisons to any of the P1 teams. Like I get it, media parallels, that's cool! It's just tiring when you look at any character's tag or a P2 team's tag that is less popular in the English fandom and 95% of it is just to do with purgatory one, or wanting them to do something from purgatory one, or saying how they should join a purgatory one team. I can't wait until we can move on to a new arc in the server that involves all the characters, but until then, please be aware that almost all of the non-English characters have been almost, like, mostly only receiving content about purgatory one still. It's a disservice to the characters and the CC behind them, they become side characters to streamers who are more popular in English fandom.

I don't think anyone's, like, a bad person for liking purgatory or enjoying purgatory content, nor is any one team worse than the other or deserves any hate, just understand it's a struggle for anyone who likes these less popular characters to find non-purgatory one based content. Let these characters be their own individuals instead of extensions of other characters. :(

While I as so happy the team Bolas?!?!?! has won today, please STOP TARGETING THE CCS!! It is honestly horrible. If the people who are actually playing and interacting genuinely had a problem between themselves, they would talk to each other, they dont need you to defend them. THEY ARE FRIENDS!! I know it's easy to get caught up in LORE and in-game stuff, but remember, ITS IN GAME!! I love Team Bolas, but the actions the characters take are in a game! The green ninjas and soulfire team are just playing the game, there is no reason to attack them.

tbc i don't think em's death should be reversed it's a completely legit death it just feels narratively awful and if they want eggs to feel in danger again i wish it would be in a different way that does take into account player agency and doesn't involve yet another third party that i don't care about and muddies the waters of what the fuck is going on

No that reveal about how they talked about doing Purgatory has me fuming now. All that stress & strain on ccs and fans alike for TWO WHOLE WEEKS, the toll of panicking over what would happen to the eggs bc everyone was made to care about them for LITERAL MONTHS and they were made into such a vital part of how the server works, the aftermath of the whole event being so many creators stepping back from the server entirely bc of the burnout and some STILL haven't returned to this day.

That content tho, right?

You are free to hype up your team, to make content for it, to appreciate new ccs discovering them

But you can't do it to by criticizing soulfire( it literally nullifies the good stuff), you can't say that nobody did content for soulfire, you simply never saw it because you never looked for it because you were stuck in you bolas bubble full of people just has toxic has you conforting you in your behavior, we're not mad at ccs discovering bolas we're mad at the fans to immediately redo the old competition and pick up the atrocious behavior and erasing everything that blue went through

Bolas was literally the worst team in term of behavior, they were the only ones to grieve bases and burn people stuff for the sake of it, to make it impossible for the others to play ( exemple: the bounty stuff ), they also took advantage of the rules but when it's soulfire the world is falling on your heads no? Omg bad killed the red on the first day, well that costed him his whole purgatory experience because of fans and he constantly had to hold back on what he wanted to do and he still got hate. The meta gaming allegations are a goddam joke i don't even need to talk about it, the biggest argument of red fans is that they were only half the team....

Have we watched the same event? Blue was max 3 persons on a good day and when someone tried to connect they would get killed by red before they could even understand the event ( people love to say blue lived in reds base but red did the same for the old blue base don't be hypocrite), while red had EVERYDAY like 5 people on at the same time and at the end of the day which was the best advantage ever

Red weren't victims, and I'm tired of people saying that it was the case. Open your eyes and see. Both teams were awful, and that was the objective of this event, I only wrote about bad red things because this is addressed to red fans.

I'll say the admins' decision that purgatory 2 is as canon "as the ccs want it to be" is awful and going to cause so many problems.

I think it's perfectly fine to have CCs choose to be out of character for their own lore because then they don't have to commit to rp all the time, but you absolutely cannot do this with the MAIN plot of the story. One of the main reasons is that not everyone will pick and choose what's the same as canon.

A perfect example is just a few days ago, Phil was involved in a main story point of protecting Luffy who escaped. Luffy told Phil that he was looking for Tubbo/Bagi, and of course, because Phil was not informed of anything going on, he told them that they went back to purgatory. Even though Bagi and Tubbo said their purgatory isn't canon. So now imagine Phil is panicking about Luffy not finding the people he's looking for only for tubbo or bagi to show up randomly and confuse the plot even more.

I will say that I don't really care about how the story should be perfectly consistent because I know that's impossible, but it's more about how it's ruining the rp choices of others. Phil did such incredible rp stressing over how everyone left for purgatory again, but for them to show back up without a care or explanation? Undermines all of his emotions and effort into making it feel real.

Another point is how it's effecting the CCs efforts for consistency. Tubbo gets kidnapped IN FRONT OF HIS FRIENDS EYES, but logs in the next day and gets attacked by a code. So now you face the confusion of either believing he was taken and how that effected the characters rp around him, or believe that the code is back as a main story element. You can't believe both because they directly contradict eachother, so you end up wasting a good plot point for another. For example, Fit has canon separation anxiety and seeing tubbo go missing in front of him could have made for good character development.

Baghera was asked to stay off the server for the past few weeks because the admins had lore planned out for her. She expressed that she missed being on and seeing her friends but trusted in the admins that her return would be worth it to wait for. So some characters are allowed back and immediately cause inconsistenties but some people have to wait? It sucks for CCs like Baghera, Slime, and Pol who express how they want to get back on but are committed to their lore. But I also can't entirely blame the people who came back from purg2, even though I do think its a bad rp choice on their part, because the admins specifically told them they could.

Finally, the worst part is how it demeans the story being told. Imagine after purgatory 2 ends all the people coming back could talk about the hell they went through, the people they met, the fate of Cellbit and Baghera. But instead Bad's "1/4" came back and immediately told Pomme he saw Baghera. Isn't that lame? Doesn't that feel like a waste of good exposition? Hell even Foolish was there and just chose to ignore it because, hey, there's no canon reason he should know that!

That's the problem now is that no one knows what to tell eachother anymore, because it will only be inconsistent with what others are saying or doing. The stories is slowly losing its integrity because it's doesn't know what is important to take seriously anymore. Should you worry about the code attacks? I don't know, it happened to someone who wasn't even technically there. Hey I saw this missing person but I'm also supposed to be missing too, so should you even believe me?

It's confusing, it messy, and it will absolutely ruin story lines down the road.

I love the story of the QSMP. It's what drew me into the server and made me love it ever since, and to see it get pushed aside for a competitive event really sucks. With the way the server has been so rp and lore dependent for the last nine months, it just feels so strange for it to not be the focus anymore. Purgatory was fun, Purgatory 2 looks even better, but I would not trade them for the fandom toxicity, story inconsistency, or divided attention on gameplay it created.

I know with time the story will pick up again, people will return, and it'll be well throught out and planned again. I just think it's important to be critical of these decisions now so they don't get repeated in the future. If there ever is a Purgatory 3 or some other event, all I would hope for is that it has a clear and defined plot revelvancy so you don't have to scramble to tie up all the loose ends later.

Q mariana loved juanaflippa very much AND WAS THE BETTER PARENT!!! He was distraught at flippas deaths each and every time, he was also the one flippa spent the most time w (iirc)! You can literally SEE how distraught q mariana was at the funeral! He wasnt cold or mean or abusive! STOP ACTING LIKE HE WAS.

Q slime isnt just a silly goofy guy! This is someone that was abused as a child, and didn’t/doesnt realize it! Idk about you, but i have the basic understanding that most characters are more than what i see (in terms of povs i dont watch) and thus, i dont spread misinfo about them or their partnerships (platonic or romantic) so why is it that non goombertos/slimeriana fans dont that for q slime and q mariana????

I really like the QSMP but I do feel like the storytelling is a bit off, in that they are constantly raising the stakes and making things harder and harder... But the rewards are getting less and less good. I feel like narratively, if all you do is angst and enigma but never give time for happiness and answers, it just becomes cheap and a little boring. I hope they'll give actual answers soon instead of what went down today.
