‘’We’ve been in band together for two years and we’re only now realized how alike we are personality wise. We say the same stuff and rambles and, well, we’re both in the school’s band.’’

Since returning from band practice, Robin had been going on and on about her band mate Vickie. You had nothing against them being friends, it was great that Robin was making friends of her own, but every time she'd talk about her, you felt your girlfriend slipping from you. Not in a ‘she’s flirting with someone else’ way. Robin would never flirt with another girl while in a relationship. She was loyal to the bones. More in a ‘they have so many things in common, they are basically twin flames’.

You doubted she was doing it on purpose, she had probably not noticed how much she talked about the redhead clarinetist, but it hurt.

‘’How’s your mom? You told me she started a new job,’’ you asked, changing subject.

Robin shrugged, laying upside down on your bed while playing with one of your decorative pillows. ‘’I think she likes the new title of head nurse. It’s a lot of supplementary house, but it pays better.’’

‘’That’s cool. Next time I fall from my bike and scrape my knee, I’m gonna pull the daughter’s girlfriend card so I don’t have to wait three hours in the waiting room.’’

Robin chuckled. ‘’Vickie’s mom works in the same department. She-’’

You let out a stiff breath, having enough. ‘’Can you not talk about Vickie for five minutes?! All you talk about since you got here is Vickie Vickie Vickie.’’

‘’I’m sorry. I didn’t notice…’’ She chewed on her lip in a nervous habit. ‘’Is there a problem with Vickie?’’

‘’Yes. No.’’ You sighed, pulling your knees to your chest as you tried to carefully find the words without sounding like a jealous girlfriend. ‘’It’s just that the way you talk about her, she sounds so…dreamy. She sounds like a perfect match for you.’’ You tried to hide your sadness, but your quieter voice betrayed you. ‘’I’m not outgoing and spontaneous like you and Vickie. I like the quiet, I like reading, I like…everything you don’t.’’

At this point, you might as well break up. You felt your eyes fill with tears.

The bed dipped as Robin sat up, a frown on between her eyebrows, not getting how it was affecting you. ‘’That’s not true. We like the same pizza topping and…and I love you.’’

That got a small smile from you.

She scooted up on the bed until she was sitting before you and took your hands in hers. ‘’I love you, not Vickie. She’s a friend.’’

You squeezed her hands back before pursuing. ‘’I know and I’m happy that you’re making friends, but you talk about Vickie all the time and you make her sound like she’s your twin flame or some shit. Sometimes, I can’t help but think that maybe we’re too different. Maybe we shouldn’t be together. Maybe you’d be happier with someone who is more in sync with you personality wise.’’

Robin’s frown deepened. ‘’Why would I want that? I don’t want to date a copy of me, it’s like I would be dating myself.’’ She wrinkled her nose in disgust at the thought. ‘’I’m such a handful. I wouldn’t want to date me.’’
