The Forgotten Twin (a Harry Potter fanfic)

Hey guys! Just a heads up, I’m new to tumblr so...don’t expect too much. This is also my first fanfic, so I hope you like it!

Chapter 1:

“Lily, take Harry and Charles! It’s him! Go! Run! I’ll hold him off —” shouted James, diving for his wand as the front door banged open.

Lily scooped up the twins and dashed upstairs. She flung herself into the nursery room and hurled every warding spell she could think of at the door. She heard yelling downstairs, heard the fateful Avada Kedavra curse being cast, and then...silence. Suddenly, the door burst open and Lord Voldemort, in all his glory and power, strode in. 

“Stand aside, silly girl, and I might spare you. Stand aside, and I might let you live to see another day.” Voldemort said, with his wand pointed directly at Lily’s heart.

“NO! Please not Harry and Charles! Please, kill me instead!” Lily sobbed, practically throwing herself at Voldemort’s feet. He looked at her, contempt and disdain written all over his face, and flicked a quick stunner at her. She fell like a marionette whose strings had been severed. He need not kill her, yet. He would let her wake up to see the dead bodies of her sons splayed across the nursery room’s floor. That would be punishment enough for daring to stand in the way of the Dark Lord.

Lord Voldemort trained his wand toward the twins. Charles was still sitting on the ground bawling his eyes out at the noise. Harry, however, was standing up on wobbly toddler legs, glaring at the bad man who dared hurt his mum.

“Ah...Harry Potter. It’s a shame I have to kill you. You would’ve made a fine Death Eater”

Harry glared defiantly back, his green eyes glowing.

“Avada Kedavra.” Voldemort hissed.

All of a sudden a green glow encompassed little Harry and absorbed the killing curse, firing it back out with ten times the force.

In the fraction of a second, before the curse hit, Voldemort’s eyes widened. “Mark my words Harry James Potter, I will get my revenge.” was his last thought before everything went dark.

***A few hours later***

James came to with a start. Then, the memories of the night came rushing back to him. “Oh no! What happened to Lily, Harry, and Charles?” James thought. He prayed that they weren’t...weren’t dead. He ran upstairs and flung the nursery door open. There, on the floor were three still forms! Lily stirred, and James hurried towards her.

“Lils, what happened? Where’s Voldemort? How did you survive?”

“J-James? CHARLES, HARRY, WHERE ARE THEY?” she screamed hysterically. 

Looking around the room she spotted the twins. She rushed over to them. They were alive! She sobbed with relief.

“James! James! They’re alive! But how?” Lily said to a shocked James.

CRACK!

Albus Dumbledore was silhouetted against the door frame. He hurried over the James and Lily and asked what in the name of Merlin’s beard was going on. James and Lily regaled the tale of the night and Dumbledore stood there looking thoughtful.

“May I see the boys? If my guess is correct, then one of them has just vanquished the Dark Lord, but not for good.”

Dumbledore examined the boys’ magical cores and found that Harry’s was extremely low, while Charles’ was full.

“I give you Charles Fleamont Potter — the Boy-Who-Lived!”

READ THIS! Totally fluff but worth it. I personally love anything by Snarry5evr but this one is 10/10.

And following are my favorite stories from Week 3. The trend toward the medium-to-long story continued so carve out some time for some good reading.

The Elemental   (43,000 words/Explicit)  This one features a very powerful Harry Potter and a suddenly-not-dead-and-much-younger Severus Snape who hasn’t experienced the second coming of Voldemort and is anxious to find his family. This one has a lot of plot which is handled very well, a believable time twist explanation, and the funniest description of Hermione I’ve read. It’s really an engaging PowerfulHarry story and a very good read.

hope you’re wearing your best clothes (turns out its your pants) (4152 words/Mature)  Harry finds a living/breathing Snape in the Shrieking Shack when he goes back for his body and engages Hermione and Fleur to help save him. I love Harry’s attitude in this story, and the way the story moves forward in time. No Snarry here - easily can see it as pre-Snarry - but it’s a good little character study piece that I really enjoyed.

How We Were Warriors:  (51,567 words, Explicit)  Another long one for the final week of fest. This one features a Severus who’s gone to NYC after the war to continue developing potions, and a Harry who joins him several years later to work through some things. It’s the dueling and merging stories of a closeted gay man who came of age in the ‘80s and an out-of-the-closet gay man coming of age in London and NYC in the early 2000s. Really stellar writing by one of my favorites authors (I think...reveals aren’t up yet) and a history lesson too. Harry’s obvious interest in Severus is paralleled by Severus’ suppressed interest in Harry. Slow burn in the first half. Enjoy!

This is one of those stories that Snape redeems himself. There's not a lot of romance, and it's not finished, but I think it's definitely worth the read. In my opinion, I think it stays really close to what cannon would have been like if Snape had acted differently. And this Snape is definitely much more mature dealing with his feud with James and Sirius and redeemed the one from the books for me. Also Harry is in Hufflepuff, which is a little weird, but this fanfic also redeemed Hufflepuff for me - his loyalty and kindness to everyone is on an entirely different level.
