Steve is basically a sugar baby and once Mary understand the term “Danno”, it’s her right as the little sister to inform her big brother of that.
Show your work part:
1) Danny is older. By a year but with them, it’s going into their arguments. It matters!
2) only people to call Danny “Danno” are his kids and Steve. 2b) Danno is the result of Grace trying and failing to say daddy and it stuck. Danno is daddy. Steve is walking around basically saying “Book ‘em Daddy” In front of everyone’s salad!

You know what I like about 911 and 911 Lone Star.
These shows aren't making the ships the Fandom like, such as Buddie or Tarlos, constantly bickering.
For instance, In Hawaii Five-O, McDanno wasn't canon, but the Fandom shipped them because of their chemistry but also became of how "loving" their (car)gument were to see. They fight but always came back to each other.
Same with Rizzoli & Isles. Jane and Maura were so opposite of each other, but they fit so well together. Not everyone in the Fandom saw them as a couple, but the way the writers wrote them, made it feel like they wanted to make the Fandom ship them to an extent. They were for the most part in agreement with each other on most things, but they would still sometimes disagree and bicker about small things.
And the same with NCIS. The way they wrote DiNozzo; he's always bickering with his love interests. DiNozzo and Todd didn't end up together in the show, but their constant flirting and little playful argument made me as a fan want to ship them. They even did that with DiNozzo and Ziva. The moment they introduced Ziva it was a constant back and forth with DiNozzo, and that eventually lead them to be a couple. (I think they made it Canon in the show. I'm only at Season 4 for NCIS)
It's a rarity when a show have the both love interests be on the same level and not constantly be arguing.
The Rookie was successful with not making Tim and Lucy have constant bickering. Yes, they disagreed with each other, but their disagreement wasn't a "highlight" of their relationship. However, at first, they weren't at the same level. Tim was Lucy's training officer. They couldn't be together due to their power dynamic. Therefore, Tim had to stop being a TO and Lucy had to move up in her career in order to make their relationship work.

Lil mcdanno headcannons not a whole lot of people seem to have.
Steve is the bottom. There is no switching. Steve is strictly a whimpery, needy bottom with a huge praise kink. He's pretty shy in bed, hesitant to ask for something (at least at first he builds confidence as he gets used to being with a man and not in control, but hes never quiet demanding) but he can beg like nobody else.
He's a cuddly guy. Not that he isn't in cannon, but he's a bit more in my brain. Little spoon, head on Danny's chest, buried in his neck, in Danny's lap cuddly. Obviously, only that far when he's in a snuggle mood his normal day to day extent would stick to head on Danny's shoulder pressed against him during the day curled in Danny's arms one way or another at night.
Private mcdanno moments being Steve can get giggly with his Danno, especially since Danny knows how to tease him just right. Or in bed they can have tickle fights that Steve regularly looses.
I like to picture a golden Steve regularly wearing flower crowns he makes himself. Eyes shining with laughter on days off, Ohana BBQ and stuff
When Steve and Danny get married, Steve is wearing white, and Mary walks him down the aisle Danny's the traditional groom.
Steve calls Danny "Danno" as much as Grace does. Steve gave himself to Danny. Danno is Steve's person. He belongs to Danno. His Danno.
Danny is one possessive MF and makes sure everyone knows who Steve belongs to and Steve loves every second of it. Love bites that can be covered with work clothes but shown off should they go out. Though the whole ass island knows about them so I dont think either of them would have a problem with showing them off at work. Arm around Steve's waist, guiding him around. Glares at everyone who checks Steve out.
Years and years ago right after I discovered fanfiction I read somewhere that men that are in positions of power tend to be submissive at home/in bed because they don't want or like to be in control 24/7 and my mind has taken that and run with it. That one thing influenced my entire way of shipping characters and how I look at dynamics. In my mind, the more serious guys are all sunshine smiles and sweet laughs with their family and partners. The Steves of Mcdanno and Stucky, for example. So used to being the protecter, they turn to pudding when they are protected, held, and cherished. Sunshine men and their grumpy humans.

morning writing….. it’s getting there.
Title: Family, Familia, ‘Ohana, Chapter 13, Buck POV
Fandom: 911, H50, SWAT
Pairings: Buddie, McDanno, platonic Deacon/Hondo
Fic summary:
When one family seems lost another comes back from the past. But does Buck want to return to the past or live in the present? And does his present lead to a future he wants? Only he can answer these questions but Steve at least will be there to support him.
Tags/warnings: first draft. NavySeal!buck. Set post tsunami/lawsuit era. Slow burn, getting together. First time.
Starring, Buck’s restraint is shot. He can’t… he leans forward and presses his mouth against Eddie’s again, hands coming up to cradle Eddie’s face as Buck tries to pour into the kiss how terrified he’d been that he’d lost Eddie. That he’d been too late. That they’d never figure things out. That he’d never get here and is still terrified that he’ll only ever kiss Eddie once and that it had been just adrenalin and a mistake.
The feeling of Eddie’s arms wrapping around his shoulders and pulling him more solidly into him, silencing the spiraling thoughts of self doubt and recrimination. Going willingly, Buck melts into the kiss and the catharsis offered by the shelter of Eddie’s arms.
The wet sand under them crumples away as Buck twists his torso, catching Eddie’s mouth with his own as their eyes flutter shut and trade open-mouthed kisses. Eddie meets him halfway, strong arms wrapped around Buck to hold their chests together as they roll in the sand, connected at the mouth tasting each other. The oncoming tide laps at their legs as they both strive to get closer to one another.
If Buck could climb under Eddie’s skin, he would. He can’t get close enough.
The gasp that escapes Eddie’s mouth allows Buck’s tongue entrance and he starts mapping newly claimed territory and planting his flag with every swipe of his tongue.
Buck will never let him go—Eddie is his now, no take backs. They haven’t said the word love but it’s there. Their stated mutual goals, talking about moving in and making a life together and babies… it’s a different sort of love declaration than Buck thought he needed but Buck will go to the ends of the earth if it means being with Eddie.
They have time. They will figure the rest of things out, but for right now, Buck just needs to physically get as close as possible to Eddie.
He wants everything with Eddie. Absolutely everything. Even an inch of space between them is too much. Buck wants to crawl under Eddie’s skin until it was impossible to tell them apart, merge them into one being.
Breaking apart to breathe, Buck’s head falls back against the sand as he’s ended up underneath Eddie who has his legs sprawled on either side of Buck, weight anchoring Buck who is so lightheaded he might just float away if it weren’t for being pinned in place. The warmth in Eddie’s eyes as they meet his makes the air Buck’s sucking in like he’s just run a marathon catch in his chest before Eddie’s face comes close and he places biting kisses with too much teeth and tongue that are going to leave visible marks down the length of Buck’s neck.
A sharp nip catches the prominent ridge of Buck’s trachea where the scar from the emergency tracheotomy Abby performed has him whining in need and he writhes to press himself harder into the rough scrape of Eddie’s unshaven cheek and the pressure holding Buck down. “Eds…”
“I’ve got you Ev,” Eddie growls over the roar of the oncoming surf and Buck’s sanity begins to unravel as Eddie overwhelms his senses.
It’s too much and yet not enough.
He wants more and is given more by Eddie even as his breath is stolen by Eddie’s mouth sealing over his, setting Buck’s blood to boil with the heat generated between their bodies.
Even the tide coming in can’t cool the fire in his blood that Eddie’s lit.
It’s not until the water actually pushes them along the beach that Buck pays attention to the power of the waves sweeping over them. They’re both drenched, salt and sand everywhere, and Eddie has never looked so gorgeous as he does with his hair dripping, T-shirt and board shorts plastered to his lean form.
The ridiculous grin and crinkles of Eddie’s eyes make Buck’s poor heart skip a beat he’s so in love with this man.
The next incoming wave pushes them further up the beach as they body surf in a tangle of limbs. Eddie takes advantage to steal another kiss but his hands are already urging Buck to escape the sweeping rhythmic tide.
Together they scramble up the beach, rescuing their flip flops and tugging at each other. Buck almost trips face first into the bank of sand where the grass starts but is rescued by Eddie’s arms wrapping around him and pulling him into another stolen kiss. Fingers wander and their wet clothes stubbornly cling to them as Buck heads for the outdoor shower.
The yelp Eddie makes as the cold water hits him first has Buck laughing until he’s pulled underneath the shower head by Eddie who is more irritated by the distance between them than the shot of barely lukewarm water that hits Buck and clears his head momentarily and he jumps back out of the cold. Eddie is shivering under the shower head as the water warms, blinking rapidly at Buck and the sand that coats him sloughing off in brown trails that follow the curves of his body that Buck wants to trace with fingers and tongue until he has Eddie writhing in his grasp.
Knowing he has Buck’s attention, Eddie grips the hem of his shirt and slowly drags it up his abs, flexing and maintaining the sort of eye contact that would be unsettling in other circumstances because it pins Buck in place more surely than being shot. Each inch of tanned skin has Buck salivating for more, unable to look away even though he’s seen Eddie before in all manners of dress and changed in the same locker room with him for years. The tease of the treasure trail leading to the smattering of hair between a pair of peaked brown nipples that have pebbled in the cool water, Eddie’s free hand sliding up to cup his own pec as he tugs the wet shirt off over his head and tosses it out of the shower, thumb playing with the nipple and rolling it.
“Buck…Cariño… Babe…Ev…” Eddie’s voice has dropped two octaves as he tries out Buck’s name and a few choice endearments, the rough desire in the call of each choice plucking at the fraying nerves of Buck’s sanity as Eddie arches his back, showing off his body.
Eddie can call him whatever he wants and Buck will answer to it.
“Eds,” he calls in return, taking a half step forward toward the memorizing siren that is Eddie Diaz.
“Why are you all the way over there?” Eddie says and Buck is crossing the distance between them before he can think.

okay, I'm going to count distinct chapters of the advent calendar for this. in no particular order and subject to mood change:
When You're Loving Me (That's When I'm Loving You) (NCIS: LA) - I cited this as a contender for my favourite fic I've written a couple months ago, so obviously it has to go in the year's. what can i say, fake dating is an immaculate trope, and this also all came onto the page very easily which is always vaguely miraculous.
there you go pulling me right back in (H50) - sometimes vague prompts i've had down for ages write up as something that's. fine, but a bit clunky, and I just have to move on bc it's the advent calendar and a new fic each day. sometimes I start writing them and they spring into life with joyous delight. or in this case, uninhibited grumpiness and love.
singing yesterday's songs wishing i could be with you tonight (MASH) - the one that didn't make it into the top 5 kudosed, I assume partially due to being locked and partially due to being a serious tone, not terribly shippy, and Peg POV. But I've had some version or other of it for a long time, it's one of those stories I'm genuinely proud of, and I was glad to finally post it.
Totally Normal (Due South) - it's fun. it was fun. I was slightly nervous about it, because the only prior Due South thing I'd written was Dief POV and this was Fraser and RayK POV and the first time writing either of those, but it turns out watching + liveblogging four and two seasons, respectively, of a character in four months is. enough to cement their voices in my head. it was unexpectedly easy and also. fun.
Festive Spice (MUNCLE) - i just think it epitomises the advent calendar. in the words of coolbreezemage, 'yesssss bake cakes and kiss your partner'.

Finding A Cure In You (S&H) - this doesn't make it to the above list due to the fact that I haven't actually managed to reread it since I posted it. but just for the amount of time I spent with it, how different it is to my usual M.O. of writing, and the weird way I wrote it (entirely in the notes app, with almost zero rereading while writing), I have to somehow mention it.
A Thousand Words / To Be Spared (Good Omens) - I don't know if they're favourite but I do think they're good. and the format of to be spared was pleasingly experimental and i think it worked.

I expect more MUNCLE fic. this one's already 3.5k and rocketing along, and i'm only two-thirds of the way through season 1. what form that will take i don't know at this stage but we'll see.
....i was discussing the vague concept of house/h50 crossover fic with squares literally yesterday and on the one hand I haven't written a crossover since 2014 and also don't want that to be my legacy, but on the other hand i think there is at least a 50% chance it's going to stick in the back of my brain and keep niggling.

Battle Wounds (421 G, Fandom: Merlin BBC) hurt/comfort bingo square 'fighting' (I wrote this 2011 in Honolulu, waiting for the ball to drop on New Year's Eve, just under the wire for the bingo deadline, while everyone at home was already celebrating) - Merlin takes care of his king in the way only he knows how.

McDanno on my dash in 2024 🥰. But also that latest gif set… having some feelings about the Gracie-Danno-Steve pipeline and Chris-Eddie-Buck pipeline. Like different shows…different stories…different dynamics but the found family unit of it all 😭😭😭.
You did not ask for the tangent I'm about to go on, but I will say that this is actually one of the reasons why I get so annoyed when people talk about how "powerful" it would be for Buck and Eddie to stay friends because "it's never been done before," except, oops! It has! The only difference between Steve/Danny/Grace + Buck/Eddie/Chris is that Rachel got to live and Shannon didn't. That's it. The "two men and a baby" storyline has been done over the course of SO many shows and yes, it's a fun dynamic, yes, I love it, but let's not act like Buddie would somehow be revolutionary because they follow the exact same pattern as other TV show dynamics. Sorry for hijacking your meta-writing abilities but I'm at work and I have just had an epiphany. You know what's really, insanely wild about the whole Cath/Billie/Steve problem? That when in 4x02 Steve rants that Cath will need a job, and Danny answers that they'll find her one, despite harping about Catherine’s unmatched abilities in recon and intel, Steve doesn't suggest, NOT EVEN AS A JOKE, no, it doesn't even cross his mind, that they could offer her a job in Five-0. Steve could do it. Later he will. BUT. NOT. HERE. AND. NOW. See, it would've solved any issue: give Cath a job exactly tailored onto her, keep her close to Steve, reinforce their bond. But neither Steve, nor Danny, even suggest it. Or think about it. It's like....dunno, it's like they don't want to break the perfect bubble of intimacy and closeness they've built for themselves. Like Cath would play among them the same role Billie plays between Steve and her. Or maybe I'm seein things.
You are not hijacking anything like I'm ever gonna pass up an opportunity to ramble (especially about my current obsession aka McDanno). You are not seeing things, unless you mean seeing what's actually shown on screen ;).
First, I'm gonna speculate on the reasons the writers wrote it this way and then I'll put my shipping goggles on.
As soon as they made Cath a regular on the show, I thought it's just a matter of time before she would have to join 5-0 just because, well, it's what the show is about.
BUT there were two problems with that, one - they didn't want to make it look like she only got the job because she's Steve's sometimes maybe girlfriend (even tho lbr that is why, not that she's not qualified, of course she is, but she was only considered for the job because of her connection to the boss, that is the definition of nepotism, not to mention they wanted to avoid the implication that she...uh...slept her way to the top) so they had to make it look like she had her own thing and they tried everything before just sticking her on the team.
The second problem, I imagine, is they didn't want to make it look like they immediately replaced Kono with Cath (while Grace was on her maternity leave which was a valid reason for her to be absent the optics are just not great especially after they already sidelined Kono for Lori in S2, since the show was allergic to having more than one woman on the team (had to adhere to the Smurfette Principle I guess).
The Powers That Be and the marketing doesn't care about the show *being* progressive it cares about *appearing* progressive which is why they had to cover their bases, so to speak. They had to go 'See? We have tried everything. We gave her her own job, that didn't work out, and now they are one team member short so it makes sense for her to be there since she is more than qualified, not because she's dating the boss, she's her own woman, hashtag feminism'.
So that's my conjecture/speculation for why it was written like that OUT OF universe.
Now *puts her shipping goggles on* since we don't have to consider the external reasons and only work with what we get on screen, you are absolutely right, it's veeeery curious how neither Steve nor Danny actually want Cath there, because 5-0 is ohana and no matter how much TPTB tried to force it she was never truly part of it.
But more than that, their job is their partnership, it's a Steve-and-Danny thing, of course they didn't want a third wheel to invade their own private little world.
It's absolutely in the same vein with Steve inviting Danny to go fishing to his father's secret spot and refusing to disclose to Cath where he is going. (He needs his very special male bonding time away from wymyn ;))
Steve NEEDS a place where he can escape to from the tiring burden of heteronormativity, Danny doesn't have to see his 'girlfriends' at work every day, this is the time where he can spend as much time as he wants with Steve without anyone invading that, of course they don't want Steve's 'girlfriend' to be there every day taking a giant bite out of their quality time cake.
Cath being there means they both have to be on™ all the time, the performance never stops and they can't relax and be themselves and it's exhausting. Steve prefers to compartmentalize and he was perfectly happy to keep Cath and 5-0 separate.
Not to mention he was perfectly okay with the little amount of time he usually spent with her (tells us everything we need to know, doesn't it, especially compared how him and Danny live in each other's pockets) and if she worked with them it would be like being forced to eat tasteless bran every day instead of only occasionally just to tick a box.
Lastly, I would argue that unlike with Billie, there IS actually a triangle of sorts with Cath - Steve - Danny (Billie - Cath - Steve isn't a real triangle because Steve is clearly not interested in competing with Billie).
Danny definitely doesn't enjoy Cath encroaching on his quality time with Steve, and he *cannot* watch any form of PDA between the two, as evidenced by him literally turning away and/or making a joke every time he has to witness the forced display. Her working with them would mean he would have to suffer through even more of that so of course it wouldn't be his suggestion. Danny may feel like 'the other woman' sometimes but in reality Cath simply couldn't compete with him, if Steve knew he returned his feelings he would have dropped Cath like a hot potato. It's not a real love triangle when the sides are extremely uneven and the choice is obvious.
TL;Dr: you are not so much seeing as perceiving correctly.

After re-watching 7x16, the valentine double date, I feel that Melissa & Lynn were testing Danny and Steve.
I almost think, they were trying to see if it could work as another kind of double date. The girls have more chemistry between them than with their respective boys.
It would have been an interesting way to go, booking the staycation to figure it out.
Even their girlfriends cannot deny the power of McDanno.

McDanno WIP
Still going strong and writing for my McDanno WIP ‘Be Your Very Best At The Darkest Time’ (Soul Swap AU). By the way, I changed my mind about parting the story. I’ll pack everything into one long, wonderful story. My amazing friend with whom I survived three NaNos already, still reads my daily part I’m writing, and she said, how would the story end if I wanted to get my story out for the boys and not what I think should happen because it’s more according what people read? I was so surprised by that question but it’s the best advice I could get.
And by the way, I love how the H50 fandom and the love for McDanno is reviving! So many new posts are floating around, so many new fans are head over heels in love with McDanno. This is so fantastic!
A snipet of my WIP:
"Jesus, Mary. You didn't do anything wrong." Steve chokes out in shock. He has reached his limits of holding it together. Danny can tell. He breaks silently in Mary's arms. His shoulder shook with the pain he tries to push down again. Steve fights to stay strong for Mary. "I'm so sorry, Mary. I never meant to hurt you." He is about to pull back.
"Not this time, Punk, you don't pull away when it gets difficult. Cry with me." Mary moves closer to Steve, face buried in his shoulder. She doesn't let Steve pull away and Danny watches how Mary shuffles on her knees closer to Steve. She clambers awkwardly into her brother's lap without taking her arms off his neck.
Steve holds her like an injured bird. "What are you doing?" He looks completely taken aback. His arms are full of a tired Mary and it looks like she wants to crawl inside him. She doesn't care if she knees him in the thigh. She shifts around on Steve's legs ignoring his silent 'oofs' and grunts when her pointy elbows poke him in the chest and her scrawny butt, parked now on Steve's sore muscles, makes him twitch. "You haven't – haven't done that since you were a little girl, not more than five years old. It's a little bit . . . you know, you're so much bigger now."
"Just let me. I need this." Mary sighs exhaustedly but is also more at peace with the situation.
"You have it. I'm here, Mare, okay? I mean it when I say it." Steve's eyes drift over to Danny and with a pleading look, he begs for advice. He looks like he has no clue how to feel about a grown Mary in his lap. Danny signs him to wrap his arms all around Mary and rock her gently. Steve talks with his eyebrows and signals Danny to step closer but he does as told and circles his arms around Mary's fragile body.
Danny bites back the grin that threatens to bloom on his lips. Steve is not yet super comfortable with the closeness but Mary doesn't pay zero attention to his discomfort. She forces tenderness and physical contact on him, tearing through any defense technic her brother has developed over the years. For Danny, she means a little wonder how she doesn't fuss over Steve's strict policy to keep the game face on even when emotions threaten to bring him down.
She's in need of the protection and power her older brother stands for. And she desperately needs tender human contact. Danny comes to sit on the edge of the mattress. "Mary, don't get spooked, I'm sitting right behind you, okay? It's me, Danny. Can you remember me?" He asks in a soft voice while his eyes are trained on Steve and mouths at him 'hug her – hold her'. He sees the tear tracks on Steve's face and as difficult as the background of this reunion is, Danny sees the love almost as a golden light blossoming between Mary and Steve. Something deep that has been stored away for far too long is unfolding.

I know other fandoms have re-watch parties. We could watch the pilot and one other episode? I have NO idea how other fandoms do this, so if anybody knows how this works…
I do have digital copies of all the episodes. I could put the pilot and the ‘top ten’ episodes in google drive. Then we could take a survey of what the second episode for the rewatch party will be? would that work?
if so, then I need a list of what y’all think the top ten episodes (besides the pilot) are!
Would y’all like to do a bingo card challenge? I could post bingo cards in January, so people have plenty of time to make stuff!
If so, then what about saying anything goes for the bingo challenge—fic, art, photos, vids, etc. What do y’all think?
Another thing that might be fun is all of us doing ‘3 recs and 10 things’ posts that day:
